Period Georgian home which can accommodate 20+ guests (max so far, 32!): roaring fires, kitchen range, large living rooms, third-acre garden, lawn tennis, croquet, swimming pool, piano, cinema room. Easy walk to a huge variety of restaurants, pubs, park, shops; five minute walk to town centre, beautiful embankment and river walks beyond; five mins walk to bus station; ten to railway station with easy access to London. 45 min drive to Cambridge, 20 to Milton Keynes shopping centre.
Please note that this is our family home, not an hotel: see Guest Interaction for more information. (You also might want to try our handy questionnaire in the Other Things to Note section, to see whether we are a match for each other.) Built in 1825, our quintessential blue-plaque Georgian English town house once housed the largest observatory in England. With its own swimming pool, croquet-and-tennis lawn and home cinema (with free Netflix) it is large enough for several families to stay in together. We have numerous bedrooms and a third of an acre garden as if we were miles into peaceful countryside, and yet it is extremely convenient for the town centre (five minutes' walk) and river, for London (37 minutes by train) and Cambridge (45 by car or just over an hour by very convenient and comfortable bus). Those interested in astronomy will be intrigued to learn that the house was built and first lived in by Admiral Willaim Smythe, after whom a sea on the moon is named, who built the observatory after which the house is named, now moved to the nearby Bedford School. It is a house full of history and we keep it as true to its original as is compatible with the comforts of modern living. Sometimes (depending on demand and season) it is possible for us to give you a discount on the listed rate, so feel free to ask. (But before you book, please! Discounts are not available retrospectively.)
Bedford is a pleasant town on a river, with all essentials a few minutes' walk from our house: plenty of well-equipped shops, a lovely river with a pleasant embankment to walk along, numerous good pubs and restaurants of all ethnicities and lovely English villages and countryside a few minutes' drive away. Bedford's most famous inhabitant was John Bunyan and there is a (free and very good) Bunyan museum a few minutes' walk from the house, suitable for children and small enough to exhaust in an hour. There is also a castle (though I haven't yet looked around it); a Marina; a local kiln where you can decorate your own pottery; a choice of different styles of church on a Sunday morning and a mosque very nearby too. London is a mere 37 minutes by train, Cambridge even nearer, and should you be tempted (I wouldn't!) the thriving purpose-built shopping centre of Milton Keynes more accessible still. You are of course welcome to arrange for a supermarket delivery to arrive at the beginning of your stay. Please also note, if you forget anything, that there is an excellent local Sainsbury's at the top of the Crescent, 30 seconds' walk away, for instance with a superb bakery for your fresh breakfast croissants, &c.
  • Anne and Shaun's home is so lovely, and absolutely perfect for a big group! They were really quick to respond and super flexible and easy going about any requests which made the whole weekend really straightforward. When we arrived they had generously put some champagne in the fridge and despite dealing with their own family emergency they were the perfect hosts, making sure we had everything we needed and that we were happy. I can't recommend them or their lovely home highly enough!

  • Stunning house and simply the best hosts you'll ever meet. This is a family home which they are generous enough to share with people, it's quirky and beautiful. Reminded us of Jane Austin with the grand living room with piano and harp, yet it has the homeliness and comfort that reminded us of Harry Potter's Weasley's house as the bedrooms have unique arrangements and lots of uniqueness. A true delight to have stayed. Thank you so much for all your help and amazing hospitality.

  • The world needs more people like Anne !!! We had arranged a really special suprise birthday weekend for my husbands 40th months in advice at another property. Much to our shock they cancelled on us the day before due to unforeseen circumstances. I was desperately trying to salvage this weekend, I’d spent a lot of money and out so much effort into making it really special for him. Anne came to our rescue like an angel. She was incredibly quick to respond to my panicked emails, so so kind and understanding sending such personal messages and willing to help at the 11th hour. I feel like I owe so much to Anne, wanting you accommodate me and my family at such short notice. At the very last minute we had to cancel Anne due to more unforeseen circumstances on my part (you can’t write it) She was so gracious and understanding even though we told her we were coming and then weren’t. Her house is absolutely beautiful, I really hope we can come and enjoy it one day and say in person a huge Thankyou to this very very special person.

  • We used Anne’s home as a base for my best-friend’s hen do and it was incredible. Anne was an amazingly accommodating host! We used their private chef and the food was amazing. The dog and cats in the house added to the experience and they were so much fun to play with and Horacio (the dog) was the most gentle dog ever! We would absolutely look to come back if we ever need a house this big again!

  • We really enjoyed our time at Observatory House - such a charming place with such character, such a warm and friendly family, such lovely pets, and such an accommodating approach. It was a lovely place for a relaxing and fun hen do (complete with games, our own dinner, and even the ability to screen the rugby world cup in the morning), and all 20 hens had a wonderful time. Thank you so much!

  • This is a really different property of the type that AirB&B was originally designed to feature, before the more commercial landlords came in. Staying here would not necessarily be for everyone. This is a family home and as such is well lived in and it does feels as such. The layout provides plenty of single beds which was ideal for our purpose (a group working week). With the capacity to sleep 18+, the building is large and comes with a whole range of features and notable add on (like a full grand piano, harp, "living" conservatory and 3 cats). As a group we enjoyed our stay here and got lots of work done. One great feature also was the range of local eateries close by, both for take away and evening meals. Ideal when trying to work rather than cook.

  • Fabulous property! :)

  • Anne’s home is a lovely, central family home with lots of winding passages and nooks and crannies. The main dining room/conservatory space is beautiful and very atmospheric (we were having a murder mystery party) and the kitchen was definitely the heart of the home. Pros: gorgeous animals (great dane, cats, kitten), lovely piano and lots of character. Be aware: not a huge number of bathrooms if you are a large group (we were 25) and the family may be in, plus need to quieten down after 11pm. Anne and her family are very friendly and welcoming. We had a fantastic time.

  • Can’t say enough good things about Gill and her lovely place. It was a true delight to stay in and Gill made us feel so very welcome. I would recommend her place to anyone.

    Richard2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Apartment exactly as described, hosts extremely helpful, close to local amenities, would definitely recommend 😀

    Julie2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Gill's! The place was spotless, and comfortable. I was here for work so didn't have much chance to explore, however I went for a run in the evening and it seemed a lovely area and I came across a few shops nearby which is really helpful! Gill's attention to detail was amazing; fresh fruit, milk, tea, coffee, cereals etc. Gill was ever so helpful and informative prior to my arrival. If I'm ever working in Bedford again I shall definitely be returning!

    Stephanie2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Well appointed self-contained accommodation.

    Tracy2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Gill was very quick with her responses, extremely helpful and generous with her hospitality. Would recommend Gills place without a doubt. We stayed with me soon to be 10 month old baby and he was even lucky enough to have some toys to play with.

'The Pippins' is a four bedroom B&B sleeping up to nine people, with a large pretty garden, indoor pool, and views of fields and the green. It is peaceful and rural and yet only 45-60mins to King's Cross, London. Zuzana's cooking is sensational too.
Pippins is a great base for relaxing with its pool and gardens, especially after exploring London, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire... The house and all rooms are comfy and spacious and make an excellent venue for a family house party. There is a charge for the guest (no for guests up to 9 who stays overnight) staying a day time 15.-/person for using the facilities. The Long Room with its piano can seat up to max. 20 people to dinner, or be a huge playroom for the children. It opens to the garden with its trees and shrubs and lawn. The disability suite on the ground floor has a kitchenette as well as a wet room shower en-suite. The real bed folds into the wall, creating an additional reception room with French doors to the garden. Upstair has three bedrooms with a shared family bathroom. There is a further shower bathroom downstairs by the pool, and an additional separate toilet. I your host, Zuzana, live at the house and pride myself on my lovely clean house and marvellous breakfasts. For the week days there is continental breakfast. Other meals are available on request which are billed separately.
This is rural England with the green, a working farm opposite Pippins, good pubs, pleasant walks, a lovely old church at Northill, Mayday celebrations at Ickwell, Shuttleworth planes and car colection, Swiss garden and very easy access to London by train (31-50 mins) Cambridge by car(45 mins), Oxford (1hour) and other places of interest.
  • Zuzana's place is absolutely great if you're looking for a day to relax. Zuzana herself is also a great host, always on hand to make sure you're OK and makes a great breakfast. We were a party of 7 and had a comfortable stay.

    James2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend the house. We hired it for my sisters hen and it was so lovely. Spacious and the pool area is fab.

    Jennifer2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Zuzana was the perfect host and the house itself was just as lovely as imagined. Spacious, clean with really wonderful amenities and of course the amazing pool, hot tub and sauna. Only wish we'd been able to stay the night. Fantastic house for a large family gathering. Lovely warm cooked breakfast is such a nice touch too. Thank you for having us!

    Jasmine2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Zuzana was a great host. Her full English breakfast was excellent. We stayed over the Christmas break with our 3 kids who loved the pool and hot tub. We had family over for Christmas dinner - it was the perfect venue for entertaining. A lovely property situated in outstanding countryside. I would not hesitate to recommend.

    Jo2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Zuzana's place was a really great place where we have celebrated my husband's birthday! Zuzana met us in person and guided around the house and explained on what and how to do. We knew some details in advance and requested some additional information about the BBQ and sauna... The amenities were incredible - really nice pool, sauna and hot tub to have a proper spa experience. It is amazing to have a such different experience to what we had before on Airbnb and great idea to have escape from a city life. We can't wait to repeat our vacation once again some time in the future and looking forward to meet this lovely place and people again!

    Gyuzel2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Zuzana's house is incredible and we all had a wonderful time. The house is big and sparkling clean, the beds are super comfortable and the pool and hot tub were perfect, the right size and temperature. Zuzana is a very nice host, she Made us feel welcome and she cooked an awesome breakfast in the morning. We'll definitely be back!

    Arianna2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Zuzana is a lovely host and the house and grounds are stunning. I used the space for a photoshoot and it couldn't have gone better. Brilliant place to visit!

    Johanna2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Me and five friends booked a weekend at Zuzana’s for a child-free catch up! We picked it for its location as we were travelling from the midlands and Ipswich so it was ideal, plus it has a lovely hot tub. The pool was an added bonus! The house was lovely, comfy beds and Zuzana was very welcoming. Her cooked breakfast (included in the price!) was the icing on the cake, delicious and a real treat being cooked for and cleaned up after!! We ate one afternoon at the The Crown in Northill which was also lovely and only a mile away. We drove there as the road doesn’t have a pavement and it was dark but it would be an easy walk. We also booked some spa treatments at the house with heaven at home spa. Two lovely ladies came and set up in the living room and the facials and massages were great. Would definitely recommend them for a hen do or treat as well. Al in all a great relaxing weekend. We plan to return next year!

Matilda Studio offers open plan living and sleeping, while The Sheringham Hut provides a contemporary glamping space. There is also plenty to do locally, with Burwash Manor and Wimpole Hall close by, along with lots of tasty gastro pubs. What makes this place special is the unique nature of the interiors, which have been designed to provide premium accommodation in a rural setting. Whether a bath in the bedroom, beautiful sliding barn doors, or a wet room, there is something to suit everyones' tastes and requirements. For more information, please get in touch and we'll be happy to help. We look forward to welcoming you to Clopton Courtyard and hope you like the barns as much as we do.

  • Had the best few days staying at Clopton Courtyard!! The barn was amazing and we enjoyed the hot tub!! Cathy and her husband always responded quickly to all of our messages. I have recommended this place already to many friends!!

  • Lovely stay here, the outdoor space is exceptionally amazing and id definitely love to return in the summer as it’s the perfect peaceful setting! Interior is also beautiful. Thanks for having us would definitely recommend!

    Jessica2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our short stay. It was perfectly located for the City and other local attractions. The barn was warm, well-presented and really well equipped. The free WiFi and parking made our lives easier and the hot tub was an enticing bonus, although we didn't brave it in the mid-January winds! Overall my husband and I and our two boys really enjoyed ourselves and we'd love to stay again.

    Sinead2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful 3 days here! Thoroughly enjoyed the available hot tub and fire pit, the Lily barn was a very clean and tidy accommodation. Will definitely be visiting again as it was a pleasant experience!

    Amber2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect stay in a quiet location. Easy to find (driving in the dark on country roads and still found it no issue!) A little hiccup on check-in but was quickly solved. Powerful shower, lovely communal area with plenty of supplies for the fire pit and hot tub, overall a really nice stay and would definitely visit again!

  • I had 24 family and friends to fit somewhere for my 30th birthday celebrations - and my goodness did Cathy's place deliver. We had the most perfect weekend, the hot tub was divine and the accommodation second to none. Incredibly tastefully decorated and felt like royalty all weekend! Thank you Cathy so much!

    Holly2019-12-22T00:00:00Z

  • The most beautiful group accommodation you’ll find. Such a perfect venue for a large group - we had a fantastic time and would thoroughly recommend Cathy as a host too!

    Juliet2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great space for a team retreat. 20 mins out from Cambridge train station and local restaurants.

    Corina2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • The barns were exactly as described. A great location for our family get together with everybody being able to have their own space as well as coming together for evening entertainment. We used Lily Barn for our big space and entertained 21 of us here for a sit down meal. Pre-dinner we all gathered in Alice; again, plenty of space for everybody. There are no toilet facilities in the Shepherd's Hut - so whoever's staying there needs to be friendly with those in Lily! We also used DineIndulge for our catering on Saturday night and they were really good. Communication all good throughout the whole booking process.

  • The space was so warm and inviting with fantastic attention to detail. Although we only stayed for one night, the little extra treats were so thoughtful and a lovely surprise. The bed was out of this world comfortable and the shower was fantastic. We would highly recommend Karen’s place!

  • Karen’s place is a cosy gem of a place, one that we would definitely return to. The sun was setting just out of the window of the barn when we arrived and it was just bliss! Perfect for a peaceful relaxing getaway. Super comfy bed and beautifully decorated throughout. Karen was kind and very quick to help when the WiFi didn’t work-soon had it fixed within 5 mins. We were made to feel very welcome, they also left wine and snacks for our stay which was a lovely surprise. Highly recommended!

  • Had an amazing stay at The Barn, very peaceful and beautiful surroundings. The barn had everything we needed and more. Would recommend!

    Helen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful 5-day stay for work at Karen's converted barn. Karen was communicative and left me some greatly appreciated snacks on arrival. The barn is cosy and well-equipped, including a table where you can eat dinner and/or work if you're in the area for business. There is easy access to the A1 but it's very quiet. The local tips provided were spot-on and the pub at the end of the road does great Italian food. I also took a tip from an earlier review - if you walk out to the end of the country lane, you can follow a public footpath along the river. Great for a run.

  • We loved staying here. A warm, comfortable, really clean, tidy space. Beds were really comfortable and it was quiet and peaceful night and day. It's private, with its own separate entrance and parking space and on the edge of Sandy partly overlooking fields. We loved chilling out with DVD and snacks Saturday night. My daughter liked seeing the chickens as well looking happy and healthy walking around part of the owners' garden. A big Tesco is five mins walk away so you will have everything you need. I would recommend it highly. Thank you Sarah!

Surrounded by paddocks and horses, tucked away on a quiet residential road, the bed is so comfy I didn’t want to leave it. Spotlessly clean with everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Sharon is a lovely host and I really hope I need to visit the area for work again just so I have an excuse to stay here again!

Lovely furniture giving a lovely warming feel to the property which is really important to me. Fantastic communication from Sharon with really clear instructions of how to find the Barn and the process of checking in and out. Excellent WiFi too. Stayed here with my cockapoo who also rated it with 5 stars! I commute weekly from Bristol to Bedford and since finding the Barn I have booked up as many overnight stays as possible for the next few months!

  • A great place for a quiet stay, I was made to feel very welcome, as well as my dogs. The Barn was immaculately clean and was stocked with everything I needed for a stay (not food), but the milk in the fridge was extremely welcome. It was quiet, immaculately maintained inside and out, and a lovely flat 4 acre field to walk my dogs. I thoroughly recommend this place. :)

This ground floor studio apartment is based in a converted garage/barn. This is situated in the grounds of a three acre smallholding, overlooking the field with sheep grazing, this accommodation will give you a peaceful break in the countryside, whether you are taking a break, seeking accommodation for visiting relatives or on business. The apartment has its own discreet entrance but can be used together with the first floor apartment for a family of four as there is an inter-connecting door.
The apartment has a shower room and kitchen area complete with fridge, washing machine, table top oven/grill, kettle and toaster. The 3' zip link beds can be made up as 2 singles or as a super king. You just need to advise prior to arrival. A welcome pack of basic food items is provided on your arrival. There is a gas BBQ for use by guests and you are welcome to wander the large garden.
My smallholding is just one of a whole road of identical holdings which, at one time, form part of the Land Settlement Association, set up in the 1930s as market gardens . Whilst they were at one time identical they are now all slightly different, many with stables and horses . If you are a golfer, there are two courses within a few miles which are open to the public or for something more leisurely there is the Y spa at Wyboston Lakes. In nearby Eaton Socon there are two supermarkets, Aldi and Lidl, also restaurants.
  • Such a warm, welcoming place with lovely views over the countryside. Very calm and clean, and Anne had provided ample supplies so anyone arriving late would never be hungry or thirsty! Quiet and peaceful with a very comfortable bed, lashings of hot water, off road parking. Accommodation was of a high standard, and felt very safe.

  • Great home, Michelle and Tony were amazing hosts. The grounds were perfectly kept and the perfect setting for a scavenger hunt with our group.

    Casey2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We found this lovely house last minute after being let down on another apartment. I didn’t book until the day we were leaving, and this was available because they had had a last minute cancellation. Michelle responded very quickly and it was booked within the hour. We couldn’t check in until a little later, due to our last minute booking, but Michelle allowed us a later check out, which was much appreciated. The house itself is amazing, very modern and clean and It was brilliant for our family get together for New Year. There was plenty of space for us all. There were 2 Christmas trees, 1 very large one, which was a lovely festive touch. The kitchen was great for entertaining with modern appliances, and it was fully equipped with everything you could think of. The beds are lovely, large and comfortable, with en-suites to 4 of the bedrooms. The Towels supplied were lovely, clean and soft and there were plenty of spare towels if we needed them. The feature fire place was amazing and we enjoyed our evenings sat around the crackling fire. The house is in lovely large grounds and we enjoyed an afternoon out there with the kids enjoying the play area and my adult kids playing football. The hosts family dog Murphy, also enjoys a game of football and it was lovely to see Murphy around every day, such a lovely obedient dog. My kids who are sometimes a bit wary of dogs, but loved Murphy. Michelle and Tony were lovely hosts and on the doorstep if you needed anything. Michelle gave us some tips of how to get into London, and which stop to get off at which was very helpful. I have nothing negative to say about this lovely place, I just wish we could have stayed longer. I will definitely be returning for another stay in this lovely house. I would recommend to any largish families wanting a nice chilled out break away. Massive thanks to Michelle and Tony.

    Teresa2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Just returned from a wonderful 8 night stay at Michelle’s property in Hatch. It was everything and more than we had hoped for. The play area for the children was amazing and any problems of which were very minor Tony dealt with immediately. The amenities were just perfect for our family being as it was all on one level. Harvey is great, so good natured with three very excited and noisy grandchildren. We would highly recommend a stay in this idyllic property, you will not be disappointed.

    Bernie2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is really quite amazing. We booked the house because of the size of our party. There were 6 adults and 4 children in total and we had lots of space. The bedrooms are all of a good size and each king room has an en suite which is nice. The social layout of the house is great for a large party too. The kitchen is well equipped. Our friend is a chef and he was able to make good use of the facilities provided! The first morning we realised that there were no filter papers for the coffee machine. One quick plea message to Michelle and she ensured they were delivered within minutes - excellent service!!! There is a children's climbing frame & trampoline in the garden which is easily accessible and there is plenty of safe and secure outdoor space. The children loved the gerbils in the garden and also enjoyed having a morning stroll around the garden with the family dog, Murphy. A lovely friendly, placid dog. The house is about 35 minutes away from Cambridge. We used the park and drive just outside of Cambridge, which I would recommend. Punting on the river is a must! I would definitely recommend staying at this house.

    Natalie2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent stylish space for a group to stay. Kids loved playing football and hide and seek on the field. Bedrooms and bathrooms all great and loved the open plan living space.

    Christine2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • You will not be disappointed this is a stunning ultra modern property with many beautiful features. The huge light open plan space is delightful yet the feature fire was so cosy in the evenings. The terrace and outside areas are spacious and beautifully kept. The house was spotlessly clean with plenty of storage capacity for large groups in the fridge and freezer and cupboards. Michelle and Tony are attentive hosts nothing too much trouble. The location is the best of both worlds accessible yet in beautiful countryside.

  • We travelled as two couples looking to relax for the weekend. Cambridgeshire Lakes exceeded expectations - the cabin was beautiful and a lot of hours were spent in the hot tub. We had lovely arrival gifts waiting for us which were much appreciated and the hosts communication was so helpful. They left a leaflet regarding a local gift fair as well as emailing information about the local fireworks display, we attended both and really enjoyed. Weekend couldn’t have been more perfect! We’ll be back!!

    Ellie2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time at the lovely Trinity Lodge! Spacious and luxury accommodation and the hot tub was such a treat! 5 star EVERYTHING! We will be back.

  • This was a last minute booking and mark replied very quickly giving me a check in time. On arrival mark was there to greet me, a lovely gentleman caring for all of my requirements showing me around the house. I really felt at home. The bed was comfortable warm and cozy with tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Plenty of storage, clean towels and bedding. The bathroom was next door and very clean. The kitchen was also very clean with everything I needed from tea coffee milk and chilled water. The living area was very comfortable also. I would definitely recommend mark and his family to anyone needing a room short or a long term. Thanks for your help at such short notice

The Barn is designed to provide a calm, welcoming place for guests to stay who want more than just a bed for the night. There is a small kitchen with microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge, a wet room and a sunny sitting room with a dining table and tv. Milk and bread are provided and tea and coffee is in the cupboard! We are situated just off the village green, well away from the road, yet just a few minutes drive to the A1, Biggleswade and the Shuttleworth Collection.
The Barn was converted some 8 years ago and is in the garden of our 17th Century Yeoman's House. It is independent and separate from our house, but it is also part of our garden, which guests are welcome to use. We have 2 dogs, a daschund called Bertie and a border terrier called Bess, who you can be as involved with or as separate from as you like! The cats are in the garden at times and if you would like to feed the chickens or collect yourself some eggs, please do!
Upper Caldecote is a pleasant village with a shop, a church, a school and a post office. We have lots of good pubs for eating and drinking in neighbouring villages, with The Crown at Northill being a decent 25 minute walk (or 5 minute drive!) away.
  • Stayed here for a month and it was so lovely. Host brought homemade biscuits on arrival and was available if we needed anything. Place is very cozy.

    Shannon2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Upper Caldecote is definitely worth a stay. The surrounding area is great for long country walks and the people we've met are friendly and welcoming. Bedford, about 15 Minutes by car away has nice little cafes, beautiful parks, the Embankment of the river Ouse and a Market on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Fresh local produce

    Petra2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place, everything you might need, great friendly and amenable hosts. Can not recommend highly enough.

    Angie2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • It was just like the photos. The shower was warm & powerful, the beds were comfortable, the place was warm, clean and stylish. Kitchenette was fine for reheating our supermarket ready meal. We had a great stay (Apart from the windy weather restricting the airshow...)

    Simon2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • This converted barn is in a great location, wonderfully peaceful, and handy for local places to visit, such as Wrest Park and the RSPB 'The Lodge' reserve. Christine was a great host, providing helpful advice on places to eat. The barn itself is comfy, and has a great shower. It only has a kitchenette, rather than a full kitchen, which I hadn't realised before I visited, however everything in the kitchenette worked really well. I would definitely recommend this place to others as a good place to stay when visiting this part of England.

  • Surprisingly nice accommodation split over two floors. Very friendly and welcoming family. Parking is a bit of a squeeze though, so make sure you fold your car's wing-mirrors in!

    Rob2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Spent two nights in Potton for a family reunion. Fiona's was the perfect location, in a quiet spot, close to the main town square. Compared to the £100 a night for a local hotel the other members of my family had to pay this was excellent value. Guests need to be aware that if you have mobility issues the bedroom is upstairs. The bathroom and kitchenette are on the ground floor. I would certainly recommend this accommodation to anyone thinking of staying in Potton.

    Dermot2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

The Little Hop House is a beautifully restored 250 year old building expertly converted from an Old Hop store to a one bedroom annex. It has a fully fitted kitchen, living room, large bedroom and bathroom, making this unique space perfect if you are working in the area, a weekend get away or an over night stop whilst visiting the beautiful historic city of Cambridge. A log burner and under floor heating will ensure your stay is cosy and snug even in the winter months.
The Little Hop House is in the garden of a family home, guests have private access and off street parking. This is an ideal place to stay for the many local wedding venues including South Farm, Longstowe Hall and Minstrel Court. These are all within an easy 20 minutes drive from Gamlingay.
The Village of Gamlingay, mentioned in the doomsday book has many amenities including two pubs and a cafe (LJ`s) well known for its great breakfast and coffee and lunches. There is also a fabulous Farm shop (Woodview) 2 minutes drive away selling local produce and serving home cooked food in their restaurant.
  • Sarah’s place is marvellous. We had a 10 day stay in early March and it was like being in a home from home. Sarah has made the space so comfortable and it is beautifully equipped with everything you could possibly need. The downstairs has a log burner and underfloor heating and is wonderfully cosy. We love to cook and although the kitchen space is fairly small, the equipment is excellent, and everything looks new and very functional. Even the cooking knives were REALLY sharp, which is unusual in most rentals. The bedroom and shower room are also very comfortable, stylish and roomy, and the shower is marvellous, especially after a long walk in chilly March. Gamlingay turned out to be a lovely friendly village with local shops, farm shops and cafes. We greatly enjoyed the hospitality of the local pubs too. All in all, we can’t recommend The Little Hop House highly enough. If you need to spend some time in South Cambs/ Beds this is perfect. We visited Duxford, The Shuttleworth Collection, Wimpole Hall (NT) and the RSPB HQ reserve near Sandy. There are also plenty of good walks in the Gamlingay area with some lovely nature reserves. Thank you to Sarah and Stuart for being so welcoming and helpful and for creating such a great place. Don’t change anything!! I hope we will return.

    Jane2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Such a wonderful place to stay. Bed was really comfy and shower was lovely and powerful. We had everything in there that we needed and more. All the little touches were great and decor was really smart/high end. Much bigger than it looks in the pics and really homely with the underfloor heating. Great places nearby for brekkie and dinner. I’m ganna come again with the hubby as he’s jealous it was so nice.

    Hayley2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Looking for somewhere to stay for a weekend to explore Cambridge, I came across this fantastic place, a mere 20 minute easy drive from the Park&Ride. I was drawn to its quirkiness being a converted Hop store and it didn’t disappoint! It’s been beautifully renovated to a very high standard of finish. And the main plus points, the list is long! Easy parking right outside the front door. It’s very warm and cosy, with underfloor heating and a log burner. The kitchen area is incredibly well equipped and stylishly done. So much so we decided to stay in and cook rather than head to the pub! Everything has been thought of, even quality coffee and decaf teabags. The bedroom area is lovely and relaxing, comfy bed with quality cotton linens and plenty of pillows. The shower is large and strong water pressure (no trickling!) with fluffy towels and shampoo, conditioner and shower gel provided. Everything is spotlessly clean, we felt like the first people ever to stay here. Considering the prices of other things closer to Cambridge, this offers exceptionally good value for money. After a day sightseeing, it was a real treat to come back and put our feet up at the little Hop house. I would heartily recommend staying at Sarah‘s lovely place. We were made to feel thoroughly welcome by her and her family, and really appreciated all the hard work that’s gone into making this a fantastic conversion. Thank you Sarah, we had a perfect Valentines weekend ❤️

  • The Little Hop House is the perfect, warm, comfortable, tastefully furnished, quiet retreat to come back to unwind and relax! Travelling by car is very easy to Cambridge Park & Ride and the Cathedral city of Ely and surrounding area and nearby National trust Wimpole Estate. We’re looking forward to returning soon. Thanks Sarah for being such a welcoming host!

    Joy2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Just returned home after a lovely stay at Sarah’s place. We were greeted upon arrival by Sarah who told us where to find local shops etc. Then left to our own devices however knew that if we needed anything nothing would have been too much trouble for Sarah. The house and surrounding area were spotlessly clean! And the lovely extra touches such as tea, coffee and milk made us feel at home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back again soon. Thank you again!

    Jake Antony2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for 1 night with my wife (to get away from the kids after Christmas) and would recommend the place as a great place to stay. The Hophouse is beautifully put together and being a recent conversion is spotless in terms of cleanliness. The building itself is full of rustic charm but complimented with all the modern comforts you would hope for including a brand new kitchen, underfloor heating, log burner and stylish en-suite. The furnishing and interior design is all of a really high standard and everywhere you look there are considerate touches that elevate the place to an even higher standard. Sarah was a great host, welcoming, helpful and really nice to chat with and we even had a nice time chatting to some of the locals at a nearby pub. The ride on a penny farthing on the way back from the pub was extremely random but made a really nice stay even better.

  • Doreen is a caring & accommodating host. Her space and the room itself has everything you need. I had a great night’s sleep every night & Doreen was always there to provide info if I needed it. Everywhere is spotlessly clean, everything is communicated clearly and Doreen is very approachable and lovely. Deffo recommend. :)

  • Doreen was lovely, the room was clean, spacious and ideal for what I was looking for. The little extras in the room was a lovely thought. Thank you for your hospitality.

  • Doreen was extremely welcoming and looked after me very well, making sure I had everything I needed. I enjoyed watching a DVD from her selection, I slept really well - it is a VERY quiet room. Will definitely go back and stay next time I spend a night in Bedford.

A light and airy double bedroom with ensuite available in a small village on the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire border. In easy reach of the A1 and M11, with Cambridge about 20 minutes away.
You will be warmly welcomed into our family home. I have two children age 5 and 7 who are enjoying the opertunity to meet new people and find out about their lives. We also have a spaniel who is very friendly and has the run of the house. We will all offer you a warm welcome and will do what we can to make your stay comfortable. Eyeworth is a small hamlet of 102 people in a rural location, surrounded by fields. The nearest shops are in Potton, 3 miles away (small tescos, pub, take aways, butchers, barbers etc). Biggleswade is the closest large town (approx 5 miles) with train to London (40 minutes to Kings Cross). Biggleswade has lots of amenities including supermarkets, shopping center and leisure facilities.
  • A1! Our stay was our best yet with Airbnb. The little touches were so well thought out, making our stay here wonderful. Toni certainly has the eye for beautiful items as can be seen in her stylish home. But more than a well appointed but stiff 5* hotel, this house was full of love which manifested itself in the welcome we felt. We will definitely be back.

  • Would highly recommend Toni’s place. The bedroom is of ample size, with a very comfy bed. Also supplied is an array of hot drinks in the room. There is plenty of wardrobe and draw space, for those guests who need longer stays. On top of all that, Toni let’s you have free range of the kitchen, to make meals.

  • Lovely home, well kept and good facilities. Mark's a good host makes you very welcome in his home. Raisin and Frankie are great, his dog and cat. A pleasant welcome after a day at work or out. Thanks Mark!

  • A wonderful place to stay and very convenient for Bedford and the surrounding area. The room is a good size and very clean, it's a lovely place to stay. Mark is an excellent host and a lovely person, very friendly and chatty, but he knows how to respect his guests privacy and leave you alone if you've had a hard day and want a quiet night. The bathroom is quite big with a good shower and a towel is provided. The house is in a nice area on a new development and is situated on a quiet road. Although there is no parking at the property, the road outside is wide and quiet and I never had any problems parking. There's also a Tesco store, fish'n'chip shop and a pharmacy 5 minutes walk away as well as frequent buses to Bedford and Hitchin. For the price you really can't beat it!

  • Mark is wonderful, very friendly and a great host. Room is a good size and everything is very clean. Nice bathroom with a good shower. No on-site parking but the house is on a quiet street which is nice and wide and I've not had any difficulty parking very close, even when I've come back late. There's a small Tesco and a fish & chip shop 5 minutes walk away, both open late. And there are regular buses to Bedford and Hitchin.
