We had a great time in Moddergat, it's a fantastic place! Calm, comfortable and directly at the seaside. The house was very clean, equipped with all you need for a nice holiday and enough space also for a longer trip. Very nice kitchen and living room, two sleeping rooms upstairs and an additional foldaway bed downstairs. Geert was a super nice contact and definitely a recommendation for low and high season along the dutch wadden sea and the Lauwersmeer national park! Thanks a lot & all the best! :-)

The house is really great and right on the Wadden Sea. When we arrived, it was very clean and the agreements with the host Geert were very straightforward. We would go back again and again!

Great stay, especially for the money. However, there are very low ceilings, you should certainly not two meters long. There is a 2 bed instead of two single mattresses (this was not reported and therefore difficult with bedding that I would bring your own). And there is an oven that'll never mentioned.

Erg fijn en compleet huis. Direct aan de dijk dus je loopt zo het wad op om oesters, mosselen, alikruiken, kokkels en scheermessen te rapen, schapen te aaien of te vliegeren. Moddergat is natuurlijk klein, maar je bent zo in Dokkum, Lauwersoog, Pieterburen o.i.d. het huis is erg net en schoon met vooral een zeer knusse woonkamer met kachel en bedstee.

Beautiful, romantic, rustic home, in a little village, far away from hectic and trouble of big cities. Perfect for a cosy weekend during cold days or in summer close to the wadden sea, to go hiking. We had everything in the house we needed, from firewood- to start a fire in the chimney, up to the basic food- to cook a great meal. Near moddergat is leeuwarden and dokkum, beautiful cities to go shopping or even to visit a lovely port. Aadrian was a great host, he's very helpful and kind, told us to come forward everytime we needed to. We would be pleasured to visit his accommodation again. Thanks a lot :-)

The picturesque house is almost in sight of the dike. One minute walk and you can enjoy the sea views. The village is a small sleepy town with many small but beautiful houses. The nearest supermarket is about 5 minutes away by car. All in all a great stay was very relaxing. Communication with Adriaan was great. Sorry, we do not have to get to know us personally. Maybe next time.:)

What a neat place! Attractive, simple fisherman's cottage with lovely fireplace, romantic open loft and parking at the door. The cottage is located a few minutes walk from the embankment of Moddergat Paessens with stunning views across the mudflats. One of the most beautiful places on the Wadden Sea. A place to yearn to return.

This acommodation is properly described with just one word: WONDERFUL!!! We simply loved everything about it: the loving furnishing with so many fine details, the well equipped kitchen, the very very comfortable bed, the quiet and picturesque surroundings and the small terraces with benches to enjoy sun during the whole day (yes, we were lucky with the weather). Communication with the owners was quite straightforward, they were very helpful and suprised us with a small welcome package consisting of coffee, tea and the most delicious honey. The charming village of Moddergat with a single cafe (don't miss their super nice appeltaart!!!) and a fishing museum as the only attractions and with probably more sheep than inhabitants is definitely doing a great job to help taking life at a slower pace. We highly recommend this place to anybody, who wants to spend a quiet, relaxed and romantic weekend far off from everyday life.

The house is really cute and cozy, recently renovated and tastefully furnished. Everything was tidy and clean, we just loved the place. It is located at the foot of the dike, so you can start your daily hike into the Wadden Sea right at the front door. Moddergat is a lovely little village, very calm and picturesque. Jaap and Ingrid provided everything as promised and responded quickly to all our questions. We felt very welcome and enjoyed our stay until the end. I highly recommend this place - be it for a weekend getaway or longer stays and as a base for trips into the surrounding Wadd Sea or one of the Frisian Islands.

We spent a fantastic week at Ingrid's and Jaap's cozy and elegant furnished fisherman's house in Moddergat. It is nearby the local open-air museum and right behind the dike from where you have an awesome view to the Friesian islands Schiermannikoog and Ameland and of course the Wadden Sea. Ingrid and Jaap are really friendly hosts and we felt welcomed all the time! The correspondance with them was always straightforward, prompt and precise. And the housing was like promised - well provided with everything and clean. There was also a huge collection of booklets of the surrounding points of interests and helpful tips. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Ingrid's and Jaap's fisherman's house.

Very charming house and atmospheric house in a beautiful part of Friesland. The house feels like a proper home and Jaap and Ingrid were very welcoming and arranged the check-in process in a very straightforward way and provided useful information about the area, like the location of supermarkets and so on. Can definitely recommend this place as a holiday home.

The house was very confortable. Everything was perfect !!! We enjoy a lot our stay, read beside the wood-burner, watching birds, walk along the sea, visit lite town around... ;) Very calm and peaceful place, perfect for a long week-end... to take some rest !

Our stay at Carolines little guesthouse was just a wonderful experience. The house is in a great location with a lovely garden, where u can sit and relax. The equipment is comprehensive. U find everything u need. Caroline herself is just warm and friendly and tries to do everything to make the stay perfect. Her Breakfast is really tasty. This place is a very special one, we´ll never forget and we´d love to come back once.

What a wonderful place! Cozy cottage with all mod cons and good beds. We had wonderful weather and enjoyed the nice garden where the trees just came into bloom. From the garden walk as the dike with behind the flats. The welcome was warm, got good tips and the breakfast with freshly baked bread is a must. We like to come back :)

Very nice and romantic! Caroline was very nice even though we didn't have much time to talk because we arrived quite late. Can't say much about the surrounding area, but as a one night stop it was great!

We had sooo wonderful days in a small picturesque Moddergat in Caroline's sweet cottage. Every morning we had fresh bread, eggs, jam, fruit ... all prepared with love by Caroline .With love and taste is also furnished the house. To one has to look at the Wadden Sea's only's garden gate and just get back up the dike. From there you can go on wonderful walks and the fresh wind can blow around the nose. Back in the house can make it more comfortable then. We will come back again.

Nice house in a very beautiful place with beautiful garden. Fully equipped with kitchen and bathroom. Only drawback is that the refrigerator overnight making some noise, but it can out.

The reception of Caroline was very welcoming. Two mornings long enjoyed a delicious breakfast with freshly baked bread and organic products. Caroline indeed has a "guest towel. instead of a 'guest'! Each guest can knit it a little longer. Mud itself is a picturesque village. Ideal to stay if you Schiermonnikoog also going to attend!

Nice and cozy apartment in a great location behind the dike. Caroline is a very knowledgeable and helpful landlady who knows a lot about the area and is happy to share her knowledge. Love to come again.

Our stay at Caroline's place was great, she is a nice host making good fresh bread for you every morning. The house is just behind the dyke with easy access to it, perfect for a mud walk! It is very close to the ferry to Schiermonikoog, very convenient. Highly recommended!

A well appointed and clean house

Gerard and Janet welcomed us very warmly, everything was super prepared, the holiday could begin immediately. A great house, a beautiful garden, lots of privacy, tranquility and peacefulness. Nothing was missing, basic everything available, in the beautiful kitchen also many Spices and vegetables and herbs from the garden. The neighborhood was quiet and very friendly. The place and the surroundings are beautiful, on the doorstep of the Wadden Sea, in the area you can great cycling. After Ameland and Schiermonnikoog you can make day trips or visit beautiful towns and villages in the interior. Also, the Lauwersmeer and its surrounding area has much to offer. We spent 2 wonderful weeks at Gerard and thank you for your hospitality. We would be glad to book this beautiful hotel again.

We stayed a weekend in the fisherman's house of Janet and Gerard Groen. Upon arrival we felt at home immediately. Separated by a local road and a dike we lived right next to the Waddenzee. The house provided ax excellent home base for our trips. The house is comfortable. Nice living room with bookcase, audio and TV. Warm beds - we used 2 of 5. Spacious bathroom and separate shower and a dream of a kitchen - a six burner gas cooker and very many spices for making delicious dishes. Really enjoyable stay and a relaxed weekend. Really a very beautiful property. A very tasteful and relaxing atmosphere can be found in the house, as well as in the area before. the cozy room is particularly with a view of the dike. Gerard is very helpful; uncomplicated keys; simply all the best! We spent very nice Easter in Moddergat and may recover extremely well us there. Thanks for everything Gerard

Anyone simply looking for peace and is right in this environment and in this decorated with heart fisherman's cottage! The house has retained its old charm, but everything is there what you need. The cottage kitchen is large gas stove and refrigerator (and an excellent selection of spices!) Well equipped. Comrades, we also have the most beautiful garden in the street and behind the house (south), the lovingly planted and seascape protected Bauer garden sitting there and relaxing one (if it is not raining) every day and meal wonderful! From the dike only a few steps away you can admire breathtaking sunsets or just the wide view over the sea or watts! The existing bikes we could use for a very low price during stay. Gerard and Janet have us most welcome (and adopted!) And were always available by phone. If re-Friesland, then surely here!

A great house in a beautiful place! Slept well in a very comfortable bed. Very convenient to go to Schiermonnikoog for a day from Moddergat. Really recommended!

Gerard's house is a picturesque cottage in beautiful surroundings. You climb over the dike and you will be surprised by the beautiful Wadden Sea. The cottage has everything you could need. Even CDs Neil Young in the closet. We'll be back and happy again.

The property was in tip-top shape! Despite the late reservation from our side everything was fine! Neat description and good explanation how everything worked etc. Also good to sit in the garden. The cottage was also great! Nice and clean. Gerard shame we were unable to meet itself. Furthermore, also enjoyed the surroundings and Schiermonnikoog.

We stayed only one night, but it was great! Everything we needed was there and Sigrid told us before all we needed to know. Always a good place to stay!

What a wonderful authentic fisherman's cottage. Everything is there what we needed. Lovely waking up to the dike to look over the Wadden Sea. Sunset behind the dike. Beautiful. Such a shame we were there only 2 nights We come t do it again, but then longer. We can recommend this place highly recommend it.

Very very sweet, old, lovely done up fisherman's cottage, it was a privilege to stay here as it just oozes history and 'gezelligheid'. If you want to taste what the relationship was between the Dutch, fishing and the sea, a stay here will tell you more than going into a museum. The local pub is a lot of fun, with local youth playing cards and billiards and I couldn't see a mobile in sight, they were too busy having fun.

Jojanneke is a great host. She responded to all of our questions and messages fast. She even drove us to supermarket to do groceries on our arrival day. That kind of hospitality is something you cannot fake, She's super nice and made sure we had everything we needed. Her place is amazing, very comfortable and spacious. There are plenty room for everyone, so even among guests there are privacy. Kitchen is big and has all appliances & equipments I need as I love to cook. Definitely will stay at her place again or being her guest again when we visit the area. Thank you so much Jojanneke.

Leo and Maaike are extremely friendly and helpful. The cottage is well presented and is a good base to Dokkum and the Wadden Sea.

Very neat, tasteful and cosy home. Very quiet, close to the beautiful views over the 'waddenzee'.

We had a very pleasant stay. It was clean, small and very old. But that was what we were looking for! It is a cross a church that does rings the bells every half hour. So that is something you should know. But the town is super cute and walking trails and info on the old houses etc. are set up. For people who are older, or maybe not very stable on the legs, they should know that there is a "bedstee" on the main level that you have to climb in to.(we thought it was fun), but to get up stairs, you have to climb up a ladder.

Die Unterkunft ist urig - mit Butze und Stiege zu den oberen Schlafräumen. Der Ort ist malerisch und super gelegen. Es sind nur wenige Meter bis zum Deich. Leo ist ein toller Gastgeber. Er ist sehr freundlich sowie sehr aufmerksam und hilfsbereit. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und konnten uns gut erholen.

Wer einige ruhige Tage an der holländischen Küste verbringen möchte ist an diesem Ort genau richtig untergebracht. In der gemütlichen Fischkate mit Buch, vom Wind durchgeblasen, einem Tee oder Kaffe auf dem riesen Herd zubereitet,.... kann man wunderbar nach einem langen Spaziergang entspannen....

Een fantastisch huisje! Leo is heel behulpzaam en heeft kort alles uitgelegd en was altijd beschikbaar zou het nodig zijn!

Marja was super accommodating. The cottage is cozy and is funny together, step I found a little difficult, and come down. We have turned to music late into the night and made noisy. This Marja did not mind, she found our vibrant young. There were few glasses, but we have said nothing about because we were still with us some plastic cups and had the dishwasher often. Every day were the bathrooms and toilets ff cleaned, very fine! Shower downstairs I found myself not very nice, but a friend found him quite ok. I then just another shower caught Other 2 bathrooms were superb, even a cabin with music and massage jets and there and quite spacious bath. We have asked for a dwijl because what drink was spilled on the floor additionally borrowed a cake pan and trays, all was fine. Beds were fine most people, one couple did not. Location perfect if you want mudflats, super nice there! We have been even a day trip to Leeuwarden and done the food tour but this was a ride. For the rest there is really nothing around and everything is closed with Pentecost Sunday. We have made it our own party and really enjoyed ourselves. So if you are looking for nature and tranquility this is a top spot.

The farm is a good size and beautifully refurbished - only a 2 minute walk from the sea. I would recommend this place to everyone who would like to have a good time in Friesland.

Actually this location suitable for many purposes, but particularly grschikt for tranquility. Dokkum you can go shopping, (10min. By car) on the dike on the flats you can walk, the view is beautiful. Even disability good walkable because a pier 2,5km walking in the shallows.

We got rained all around dinner time and were welcomed warmly. After a hot shower, there was a delicious plate of food ready, with pleasant company. In the evening a walk through Moddergat and the dike. Idyllic spot! Marja has my cycling shirt washed and now smells nogsteeds quite tasty. Our procrastination, I can not personally say hello and to thank !! It was truly a wonderful stay! Thanks and goodbye!

Marja was a wonderful host. She was always in a good mood and had some very useful tips for possible activities around the region. The rooms were always clean and the breakfast was very good. We really enjoyed our stay there and are thinking of coming back next year!

Conveniently situated, with kind and accommodating host. Spatial arrangement of room, bathroom and kitchen leaves something to be desired.

We really enjoyed our two night stay at Bauke's apartment in Paesens. The apartment was clean, interesting and conveniently furnished (the built-in cupboard with bed and storage was very cute/unique!) and the kitchen was equipped with everything you would need to cook a meal. The beds were comfortable and the off street parking was nice. There was also access to a side patio, though we did not have time to use it! The location is also convenient - it is ~15 minute drive to both the Ameland and Shiermonnikoog ferries, and there are grocery stores within a 10 minute drive as well. We also enjoyed the fact that although we missed the 8pm closing time for the grocery stores the first night, on our walk through town we were able to buy eggs and veggies from peoples front yards to make the next mornings breakfast! The house across the street also sold dried (URL HIDDEN) interesting thing indeed. Bauke and his wife were also very accommodating and attentive during our stay, and we appreciated their help. We would definitely return again or suggest it to friends who are visiting the area!

This is a lovely, comfortable little home right at the sea (Waddenzee). Whereas mold and mildew can be a problem in the Netherlands (plenty of rain and damp air!), the house smells and looks all fresh. It easily sleeps six people, mainly in twin beds. The master bedroom, in addition to a queen (king?) bed, has a cute little upstairs nook with a queen bed for kids to sleep in. It requires a ladder to get to, which they will love and is safe to use. The host, Jojanneke, was very welcoming and accommodating. We had great weather and LOVED the area for its biking, hiking (wadlopen) and quaint little villages. Definitely a keeper for a summer vacation. If you are looking for shops and entertainment, come with a car and be prepared to drive 10 to 20 km (10 miles).

Marja and her husband welcomed us very friendly. Each time they were ready to answer questions and gave us good tips turn. The rooms are cozy and clean. Breakfast is included and very plentiful and varied.

We hadden een heerlijk familie weekend in Paessens/Moddergat. De boerderij ziet er prachtig uit en is mooi en rustig gelegen direct achter de dijk van de Waddenzee, met prachtig uitzicht op een molen en de weilanden. Het appartement was netjes ingericht en schoon. Helaas betrof het geen volledige woning met t.m. 5 slaapkamers zoals we dat geselecteerd en gereserveerd hadden en waar we via de mail nog nadrukkelijk om gevraagd hadden. Het is een appartment met 3 slaapkamers en 1 badkamer, wat in ons geval werd aangevuld met 1 kamer van het B&B gedeelte, die alleen buitenom of via een andere slaapkamer bereikt kon worden vanuit het appartement. Ook de andere 2 kamers bleken verhuurd te zijn aan andere gasten, wat niet was afgesproken, wat de privacy en rust niet ten goede kwam en waarmee de 2e badkamer gedeeld moest worden. Marja deed haar best het op te lossen door een 3e bed bij te plaatsen op onze slaapkamer, zodat de noodzakelijk 1 persoonskamer georganiseerd kon worden, maar dat was niet ideaal. Samenvattend; prima appartment voor max 6 gasten (3 slaapkamers), maar niet aan te raden voor grotere groepen (7-10 gasten), omdat je dan geen garantie hebt op de hele woning.
