The Apple Loft is an airy and open studio for two , looking out over Latchley and the Tamar Valley. Dog and Baby friendly it is perfectly situated for exploring Devon and Cornwall, and close to Tavistock, Dartmoor, Plymouth and the coasts. .
This airy open-plan Apple Loft is set up with all the necessities as well as a lovely view. It is part of the old stone barn that held the apple press when the valley was filled with orchards. It has a high ceiling and there is central heating, hot water and a wood burning stove. The table and chairs are in front of the large wooden double doors overlooking the valley. On a warm evening the doors can be opened to take in the view and watch the swallows across the yard. The sofa and chairs face the wood burning stove (some wood supplied) and a TV. The little kitchen area boasts a gas stove, oven, microwave, fridge and all the basics. If you need something specific just ask. A comfy good size double bed with quality linen and duvet is up a small set of stairs on the elevated mezzanine. The separate bathroom contains a shower/bath and toilet, towels are provided. The Apple Loft is situated on the edge of Latchley, a quiet pretty little historic village, with lovely neighbours and a countryside setting. The Tamar Valley is designated an Area of Outstanding Beauty. Historically, the valley has many signs of its copper mining of the 1800's including pumping houses, shafts, and chimneys. The valley is part of the World Heritage Site for Mining. You can walk from Latchley through Duchy of Cornwall woodlands up river along the Tamar to Luckett and Horsebridge. Or down river to Gunnislake and beyond.

Be the first to stay in this beautiful wing of this former village church, tastefully decorated and equipped with everything you’d need to relax in this rural peaceful corner of Devon. Soak in your own private hot tub, or chill out on the raised decking area watching the sheep graze and the sun set, whilst listening to your favourite music on the outdoor speakers connected to Sonos. Play it as loud as you like, there's no neighbours for 1km in any direction!
Up to 4 guests can have the exclusive use of 5 rooms - accessed via your own personal door to the rear of the church. This area leads straight onto the decked walkway with access to the hot tub. The spacious Master Bedroom with a king size luxury bed and 42" LED TV and Sonos dock. The Snug - consisting of 2 versatile singles, that can be made up as a double or 2 singles, with a study area to the other end. The Ante Room - all rooms lead of this, and it's a perfect space to sit and read a book. The Kitchenette - all the things you'd need to prepare a basic meal, including a fridge freezer and washing machine. The Shower Room - A double power shower and generous sized bathroom. All rooms have a good wifi connection / Ethernet ports.
A stunning area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB!) with amazing views for miles around - you cannot see another house from this location, so make as much noise as you like! There is guest parking for 2 cars, and the local village pub is 1 mile stroll away. A convenience store is 2 miles away, and for larger supermarkets and restaurants there is the market towns of Tavistock or Callington just 5 miles away. We are slap bang between the 2, just 1 mile into Devon from the river Tamar.
  • This was such a lovely place to stay. It was homely but stylish. Genuinely wanted to steal the shower as it was better than mine at home. Great location for going to Devon and Cornwall. There was helpful recommendations on where to go, we ended up going to Jamaica in because of these which was fun. Such lovely little touches and signs in the house to make us feel welcome. Thank you for a lovely stay and being so responsive when we had to message. Would definitely book again!!

Covid -19 Due to the government advice against non-essential travel and advocating social distancing to stop the unnecessary spread of Covid 19 The Count House is now closed. I am contacting present bookings as the advice changes. Stay Safe! Claire The Count House was once a Mine office, now it is a light filled holiday cottage. Set on a wooded hillside with stunning views over the River Tamar. The private garden steeps you in nature with deer, swallows and brimstones all regular visitors.
  • We've just enjoyed a great second visit to this lovely little hideaway in Devon. The house has everything you need for a quiet, relaxing holiday, and the stunning views from every window make this spot extra special. Already looking forward to coming back!

    Becky2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our time at The Count House. Beautiful inside and out. So peaceful with the only sounds being the Tamar rapids and the birds. Best airbnb we've stayed in to date.

    Jane2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay. We switched our phones off for four days and sank into the peace of Dartmoor. Appreciated things like the low-key communications, and the thoughtful, calm aesthetic of the house. Will definitely return, thanks Claire.

    Bec2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • The view from the house is really beautiful - the location couldn't be better. The house itself is very comfortable and well appointed, with a nice big wood burner. I would highly recommend Claire's place if you're looking for a break surrounded by nature. We loved our stay (and the friendly cat that came to visit).

    Siobhan2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • If a break away in a very cosy ,stylish cottage with every convenience ,that feels as if it is a retreat from hectic city life , surrounded by natural beauty and easy to navigate walks is what you are looking for Claire’s Count House is the best you are likely to find

    Brendan2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to stay, everything that you needed, a magical place to stay, lot's of peace and quiet just what the "doctor ordered", will definitely be returning. Sparkling clean and Claire our host was lovely.

    Jennifer2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our third time at The Count House and, after a very hectic few months, a complete tonic! So peaceful and relaxing, the house is perfectly located, nestled in the Tamar Valley with gorgeous walks right on the doorstep. The Count House is comfortable and welcoming in a wonderfully uncontrived, unfussy way. The bed is super comfy and waking up to that incredible view each morning is a sight to lift the soul. We were especially privileged to see a beautiful deer in the garden on a couple of occasions, and the visit from the friendly little black cat, who sat with my husband as he did a bit of painting and drawing on the bench outside was lovely, too! We'll be back in the Spring for more of the same!

  • The cottages are beautiful and in a lovely location with enough to do onsite. We had a couple of issues which the host was very prompt in responding to. Would highly recommend for a trip with the family!

    Sarah2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place, in the countryside but close to local amenities (with a car) long barn is lovely, fantastic facilities and greta for our family get together

    Ryan2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • We booked the 3 cottages together for my father in laws 70th birthday and we weren’t disappointed. On arrival we received a warm welcome and given a guide around the site which includes an indoor pool and hot tub, gym, games room and outdoor hot tub. We were then given the keys for our 3 cottages and moved straight in. I was staying in Hawthorne, the largest of the 3, which had a large amount of space to easily sit the 15 of us when we were all together. Our cottage had 2 king sized bedrooms with en-suite and 2 twin rooms with a family bathroom. The cottage also has a well equipped kitchen to prepare and cook food. The location is just wonderful. No noise whatsoever and fantastic views. Snowy the donkey was also well fed with apples by the kids. Cannot find fault with this place at all and would definitely stay again

    Simon2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fantastic, the accommodation is spotless, the kitchens are so well presented and they available pots, pans, dishwasher etc made it easy to cook a roast for 16 people. The facilities here are well maintained and we had so much to do we didn’t the site the whole weekend. The host is easy to get hold of, provided us with a tour and gave us all the information needed. Highly recommend this place, literally no faults.

  • Beautiful setting - perfect for a complete retreat from urban living. Warm and cosy cabin, and an amazing massage from Leanne! We loved the local walks (great info from Leanne) and just sitting by the fire in the evenings. We'd love to return.

    Helen2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Our second stay - brilliant location and feels like a real adventure. Take a trip down the tyre stairs for a magical surprise in the bluebell woods. Close to two lovely pubs and a shop selling all essentials, lots to explore locally. We loved cooking out on the bbq every night and the best nights sleep I’ve had in a long time - beautiful place, highly recommended.

  • An amazing trip! We are a family of five and all loved the cabin.

    Amy2019-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • We both enjoy our stay in the cabin, it's quiet but also not too far from a little village. Beds were comfortable and very cosy. The cabin itself is much bigger than in the pictures. I wish we could have stayed longer but will definitely go back in the future

    Mair2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely break away with my partner and doggo. Thank you!

    Jemma2019-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Does exactly what it says on the tin! Out the way and secluded, the cabin is a great little place to hide from everyone! The wood burner is a charming and brilliant touch that keeps the place cosy and snug. Close to Tavistock and Horrabridge if you don't want to cook or need to stock up on essentials during your stay, the cabin is ideally located for visiting Lydford Gorge, Morwellham Quay etc. We had a great family weekend away but equally can see how it's a great place for a romantic getaway. My top tip (if taking your pregnant wife who needs to pee every hour during the night) would be to take a camping loo with you to save them walking up to the house throughout the night!

    Kristian2019-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin in the woods was exactly as advertised, cute and secluded with all the essentials needed for a quiet getaway. It was lovely to wake up and be able to open the door straight into nature and the swing was a lovely touch too! Leanne was very helpful when needed but really respected our privacy. Would definitely visit again :)

Perfectly located on the Bere peninsular just a few yards from the scenic Tavy river. An area of outstanding natural beauty. Ideal base to explore West Devon, Cornwall and Dartmoor. Post Office Cottage has been fully renovated in 2017 and provides high quality comfortable accommodation in a peaceful, rural location. Just yards away is The Old Plough Inn, a great village pub serving real ales, cider and tasty home cooked food.
200 year old barn previously used as the village post office in the heart of Bere Ferrers. Converted to provide light, spacious, well equipped and very comfortable accommodation. Great location for walking, sailing, canoeing, bird watching, visiting local attractions, or just relaxing in this picturesque Devon village.
Bere Ferrers is a quaint traditional Devon village located in the historic Tamar valley. The village has a regular train service to Plymouth & beyond. It is an eight mile drive to the famous market town of Tavistock. The National Trust properties of Cothele House & Buckland Abbey are close by.
  • Ian and Jane went above and beyond to make our stay super relaxing - understanding what it takes to have a break when traveling with small children. The Old Post Office, Bere Ferrers and the surrounding area were all delightful. A really super find. Thank you!

    Eileen2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We were not able to stay on our planned dates due to the storm, but we hope to visit soon. Ian and Jane are great hosts, most understanding when we called off at short notice.

    Moyra2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful stay at a lovely cottage in the most cosy of villages. The host’s communication was efficient and when we arrived the little touches like tea, coffee, biscuits, shower gel, shampoo etc were a very nice touch. The cottage is immaculate and well kept. The location is beautiful and very tranquil. Will certainly return if the opportunity arises.

    Samuel2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place to stay, clean and welcoming and so nice to have the little extra christmassy touches. The bed was really comfortable, the shower was great, the decor was lovely and it was very cosy and romantic. The little extras for the dog were great too. All in all we enjoyed it immensely and have booked again already! Bere Ferrers is a beautiful peaceful place.

    Joanna2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • A quaint cottage in the perfect spot to explore the Dartmoor and Devon area. Ian and Jane were very friendly and informative on areas to visit. The cottage had all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Thank you for having us. Merry Christmas.

  • We had a great time at the Old Post Office. The cottage is comfortable and has everything you need. We took our dog and enjoyed the walk down to the dam and further along to Milton Comb. The old plough pub across the road serves nice food and is very handy to the cottage. We hope to visit again in the summer.

The cottage is situated in a quiet location in the market town of Tavistock, but it is walking distance to the town square. It's only two miles to Dartmoor National Park, which you can see from our garden. A Victorian miners' cottage, part of the Tamar Valley World Heritage Site, it is cosy and refurbished to a high standard. It is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and pets. One of our guests summed it up: 'The cottage is an absolute jewel'
The Cottage is spacious and has been renovated recently, the latest addition being a wood burning stove in the front room. There is sitting room, kitchen and dining room, two double bedrooms and another with bunkbeds. There is also a sofa bed available for two more. It can sleep eight people. We also have a travel cot for babies. There is a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs. There are two toilets, one upstairs and one downstairs, a bath and a separate walk in shower. The kitchen is fully equipped with a washing machine and a dishwasher. Pets are welcome. The garden is free for you to use and we are a short walk from the town, local park, swimming pool and arts centre, with cinema. There is free internet and a smart tv. Also available are board games, books, DVDs, piano and guitar.
Fitzford Cottages are unique. We are part of the Tamar Valley World Heritage site. The Victorian miners cottage was built in 1862 as ideal housing for the Duke of Bedford's mines. We are situated in the town but in a quiet location. It is peaceful and secluded whilst being walking distance from the attractions of the town. Tavistock is an award winning market town with independent shops, an indoor pannier market and a choice of superb restaurants, pubs and tearooms.
  • A charming, cosy cottage in a great location. We would happily stay again :-)

    Richard2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage! We all enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back again. It’s in a great location as it’s close enough to town but still very quiet. Unfortunately we only had a few days there and didn’t have an opportunity to explore in and around Tavistock much but there’s more than enough to do in the area to keep you busy. There is also a guide in the cottage of things to do locally and around Devon. Cottage was clean and tidy and felt like a home away from home! We headed into town on our last night for a great meal as there’s plenty of places to eat or shops are within walking distance of you prefer to cook yourself. We didn’t really have any issues but Christina answered any questions we had promptly and was helpful when we needed her.

    Lee2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • It's a lovely house & Christina is a good host. Only able to stay one night this trip however we'd like to go back again. The area looks great to explore.

    Jason2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Christina’s cottage is lovely. It looks like a little cottage but it’s a surprisingly commodious place, beautifully fitted out, in a very convenient spot for exploring Tavistock and its environs.

    Sue2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cottage and we enjoyed our stay... great communication from the host... the only thing I’d say is go careful in the back garden if you have a dog because the gardens are all open, but the front little garden was great for a springer

    Amanda2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing cottage!! We stayed here for 1 night! It was our annual girls Christmas get together and we loved how cosy and relaxing it was! Christina is such an amazing host and helped us when we needed it! Would definitely recommend this cottage!!

    Nicolle2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • This lovely cottage is right in the heart of Tavistock. Just a short walk in to town. The cottage itself is a perfect mix of traditional and modern. It’s cosy and stylish and has everything you need for a stay away from home! Christina was really accommodating and helpful. Would definitely recommend and return!

Built in 2017 in a large garden with uninterrupted views, from both the cabin and decking, of the River Tamar. Ideal retreat for artists, writers, walkers and nature lovers. The garden is unsuitable for children as it is steep, well behaved dogs welcome provided they don't launch themselves into the river as the only access is by a ladder. There is strictly no fishing. Just enjoy a natural habitat, which is plentiful. You might see kingfishers, otters, cormorants, leaping fish, hope so!
The Ottery was originally built as an artist studio, but I decided the view was so beautiful I wanted to share it with other nature and peace lovers. It was completed in April 2017 and is situated at the end of my garden. It has wooden floors in the living areas and tile in the bathroom. It has decking on 2 sides with a table and chairs to enjoy nature. In the winter it is cosy but, it is a cabin, and does not have double glazing but gets warm quickly when the fire is lit, for which kiln dried wood is provided. Warmth can be maintained with an oil filled radiator, this to me is part of the romance of staying in a cabin in the winter. There is a condensation issue in the winter as it is warmer inside the building than out, but a handy tool and kitchen roll is provided so that the view is not obscured. The cabin has far reaching views up the river and is situated close to an ancient monument, Newbridge which is a 16th Century bridge. There are 4 fantastic walks available by walking out of the front door, no need to use the car! When the river is being lazy you can swim from the garden, but you need to ask me first please so I can judge if it is safe as the currents can be deceptive. It is close to Dartmoor and about 30 mins drive to the coast. It has no wifi or TV, but I have provided basic artist materials (please bring your own paper), board games, jigsaws and books and magazines. Mobile service is excellent for Vodafone and 02, but for other networks you might have to go on the roof to get a signal! If you need to contact someone, provided it is in the UK you are welcome to use my landline.
Gunnislake is a working village with 4 pubs, a post office, general stores, an excellent butchers and a hardware and gift shop. It is situated about 200 meters from the cabin, but up a very steep hill (good exercise) there is free parking for 2 hours in the village. Gunni has a train station and a regular bus service. The nearest town, Tavistock is 5 miles away and is a market town. Plymouth is the nearest city by car it takes about 30 mins and is also accessible by a scenic train journey or by bus. There are restaurants close by and food round here is excellent. There are no nightclubs! Villagers tend to be very friendly, and helpful.
  • Lovely place with amazing views, we had such a relaxing stay. Mel was warm and welcoming, responded quickly to queries and supplied nice vegetarian options for breakfast.

    Julie2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, Mel is very nice and even bought food for the fridge!! The pictures don’t do the place justice, you are literally over the river, don’t hesitate you will love it

  • Really lovely little cottage, very cosy and homely. Has everything that you could possibly need. The photos on the website don't do it justice. Very highly recommended

  • Great little cottage nestled in the Tamar Valley on the Devon / Cornwall border. The accommodation is perfect for a couple; there's an open plan lounge / kitchen on the ground floor with stairs leading up to a spacious bedroom and bathroom. We went during pretty dire weather towards the end of November and so we were really grateful for the excellent central heating and log burner! Gunnislake itself is ten minutes from Tavistock where you'll find the usual supermarkets but there is also a small shop and 3 pubs in the village, plus a larger general store and chip shop a few minutes drive away in Drakewalls. Overall, a really good base if you want to explore this part of the southwest!

    James2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • A great cosy cottage with all you could need, great communication from Ashley and super easy check-in, would very much recommend!

    Oliver2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and cosy with lovely walks near!

    Lloyd2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Berry Cottage for a few days and used as a base for walks on Dartmoor and visits to Tavistock. The cottage was clean, warm, cosy and quiet. Thanks to Ashley for excellent communication ahead of visit. Would stay again if possible.

  • A truly beautiful house in a beautiful county. Wonderful food in the Carpenters Arms where the staff and locals are friendly and special. Rosemary is such a sweetie. Great company for a chat and her guest room is cosy with a most comfortable bed. Everything is perfect from the parking to the breakfast. Faultless actually.

  • A very memorable evening at Rosemary's well appointed cottage; spent sitting around the open fire chatting; with three happy dogs, two hers and one ours. Rosemary is a remarkable host and a captivating conversationalist who made us all three - including our wolf hound - feel very welcome. We enjoyed talking to her and loved meeting her cute Tibetan Terriers. The bedroom was cosy and the bed most comfortable to sleep in. Lots of lovely pictures around the house. For dinner we walked with the hound to the local pub The Carpenters Arms which turned out to be a bit of a dog heaven! Very tasty seafood. Overall, a fantastic stay. Thank you, Rosemary!

Kingfisher Pod at Milemead is ideal for those looking to get away from it all. It is located in a tranquil, west-facing spot surrounded by wildlife, directly overlooking a picturesque lake. Milemead is a coarse fishery, and fishing and tackle is available to guests. We are located 2 miles from the historic town of Tavistock, 3 miles from spectacular Dartmoor and from popular mountain bike trails, making this a great destination for walkers, runners and cyclists.
In the pod you will find details of recommended local places to eat, including takeaways, some of which offer a delivery service
  • The cabin is situated in a tranquil location and the only noise you hear is that of the wildlife. The cabin was immaculately clean and as were the ablutions. There was tea/coffee and fresh milk in the cabin for our arrival which was a nice touch after a long drive. We would definitely recommend staying here for a night or two !

Very friendly hosts- always happy to help me out and great facilities in the pod. Would recommend this for short or long stay as there is lots to do in the area, with maps etc in the pod.

  • A cute place to stay with beautiful countryside all around. Lots to do and see close by.

  • We had a wonderful time at the Granary! The house is a perfect little cottage, beautifully furnished and very practical. It is located on a farm and you can take all kinds of hikes from there, but you can also simply stay in and have a few cosy days. There is a farm shop not far up the road, which sells fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as bread, cheese, milk, eggs and other essentials. Although the Granary is somewhat remote, it is possible to arrive on foot from Tavistock, which is only about a one hour walk away. The landscape is somewhat hilly, but nothing too steep. Katie was a perfect hostess and helped us out a lot with maps and bus times for the region. We could always reach her via text or just ring her doorbell. All in all, the Granary is a great place for a quiet holiday!

    Klara2020-01-04T00:00:00Z

A self serve breakfast is included and provided in the kitchenette.
Please be aware that there are three steps to access the Annex. There is one really comfortable double bed with double duvet and a lovely double sofa bed. The Annex is perfect for singles or couples and can confortably accommodate an additional adult or a child on the sofa bed. The Annex has a small kitchenette equipped with a sink, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster where you will find everything you need to make breakfast, snacks/picnic lunches, refreshments and re-heat food. In addition a cooked breakfast or full English breakfast can be delivered to the Annex for you at a very reasonable additional charge. Several guests have commented on how much they enjoyed the cooked breakfast (my husband is a chef) so please ask for details and availability if this is required.
Kilworthy Rise Annex is situated in a quiet, rural location on the edge of Tavistock town centre. It is perfect for those who would like to be within walking distance of the town centre but would also prefer not to be staying on a busy main street. Tavistock is a great place to stay for walkers exploring Dartmoor, cycling Route 27 or just visiting on a stop off on the way down to Cornwall. It is within easy reach of the North Cornish coast with the amazing beaches at Bude and Newquay and ideally situated to explore the city of Plymouth and Cornish town of Looe. There are a variety of National Trust properties in the area (Lydford Gorge, Cothele House, Buckland Abbey, Castle Drogo and Finch Foundary ) and we have had guests go on day trips to the Eden project.

  • We stayed one night because we were going to an event in Tavistock. The place is a little converted outbuilding, maybe once a garage. It's spotlessly clean and Jane went to a lot of trouble finding vegan breakfast items. It's about 10 minutes downhill to town and a steep walk back but definitely doable. It's very quiet and has everything you need for a short break.

    Jane2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very good choice for host and home to stay at. Highly recommend this place.

    Sasho2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our one night stay to attend a wedding in the area. The annex was perfect for what we required & had everything we needed. Jane was very welcoming & couldn’t have helped more. Would definitely recommend. Thanks for a great stay. P.S - Sorry we didn’t get a chance to say bye!

    Rosie2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a spotlessly clean and comfortable place to stay, with a wide selection of items provided for breakfast and snacks. It's a really peaceful location, but with easy access to the town of Tavistock.

My place is close to the Cornwall-Devon border not far from the beaches and Dartmoor. You’ll love my place because of the views, the open plan living space, the location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, holiday makers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
What makes my place so good is the price. It comes in at less than half the price of other similar holiday cottages. There are no extra cleaning costs. All I ask is you leave the place as you would like to find it.
There is a restaurant and bar on site as well as a games room for guest use. A good pub is a 10 minute walk away. There is no private garden but directly outside are large green spaces, a play area and tennis courts. The Donkey Park with large indoor play areas (and lots to do outside) is a short walk away.
  • We had a lovely few days here, nice and spacious yet cosy! Very comfortable bed and sofas, nice big TV & plenty of games and DVDS to keep you occupied! Had all the amenities you need and the area was beautiful! The bar on site did very tasty meals! Great value! Would deffo book again x

  • Outstanding value and extremely comfortable for a short stay.

    Scott2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • All in all a very competitively priced property. Very spacious, the pictures do not do this justice as I was amazed at how big it actually is. Quiet and out of the way. Would definitely stay again

  • Fantastic, great location, great value, great place, great host, stayed an extra week, don’t hesitate totally recommend

    Sharon2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great value accommodation in a lovely location . The house itself was quite basic but everything worked and the space in the living room upstairs is good for a family. The host is clear that it will have been cleaned by the previous guests and we found it tidy and usable but it could benefit from a professional clean at some point. The price certainly represents good value. Short walking distance to pub restaurant which has friendly staff and a good local trade so plenty of atmosphere on the nights we were there.

We have a standard single, a double-room and a King Size room for up to 5 guests. We are close Tavistock, Dartmoor, Plymouth and the North Cornwall coast. We cater for singles/couples, and business travellers. We can take and collect guests from inns and restaurants within a 5 mile radius of our home. We keep poultry, and guests may like to collect their own eggs for breakfast when available. Continental breakfast is included or a cooked breakfast available for additional cost.
Guests have a single bed with use of the guest bathroom adjacent to the bedroom. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, handbasin, bath and loo. Guests have sole use of the sitting room with TV and an inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove. The wood burners are lit in the autumn and winter months. A selection of bottled beers and wines are available for a suggested donation however we do ask that red wine is not taken upstairs but is consumed in the dining or sitting room areas. We are lucky to have several inns and restaurants nearby that serve good food and your hosts are happy to take and collect guests within a 5 mile radius for a small donation. We have a fairly large garden with places to sit and read, have a coffee or a glass of something. In the summer the lawn is usually set up for garden croquet which guests are welcome to play between themselves or with the hosts. We don’t provide evening meals but guests are welcome to collect a takeaway from town and eat in the dining room or if they wish there is a barbecue that can be lit if required. Continental breakfast is included and provided in the dining room with a toaster and coffee and tea making facilities. Cooked breakfast can be provided by prior arrangement for an additional fee.
We are within a hamlet set in a rural location. There are views from to the east over Dartmoor. Our neighbourhood is friendly and all of our neighbours are well versed with helping each other out when needed. Although being only 2.25 miles from Tavistock we would strongly advise that guests coming to Cherry Tree Cottage either have their own transport or make alternative arrangements before arrival as we are not on a bus route.
  • Steve snd Suzie have a lovely cottage with good bedrooms and a lovely sitting room with wood burner and also breakfast room with a wood burner. Really nice waking up to the sound of the birds in the countryside. Will definitely look to stay here again

  • Lovely cottage and two wonderful hosts who will do everything to make your stay homely 👍🏼

    Alena2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Suzie are a very lovely and welcoming couple. very hospitable and the location of the cottage is wonderful, in one of the best locations in Great-Britain. Don't hesitate to book with them. I would suggest to upgrade to the premium breakfast to take advantage of the nice eggs from their own hens, and the homemade jam. They have attention for detail and some things in the room I found very handy, for example the USB power connector near the night stand and the touch-lamp! I had a very pleasant stay and they are lovely people.

    Patrick2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Superb house and lovely couple. Highly recommended.

    Steve2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent hospitality, accommodation is in a great spot. Very clean and the breakfast was delicious. I only stayed for a quick stopover for work but would be a lovely place to spend a few days too.

    Laurie2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Suzie are superb people first and foremost. A stay with them will feel just like home. The room has everything you’ll need with a wonderfully comfortable bed and the bathroom is outstanding! Breakfast was an added bonus, as well as the interesting conversations too!

    Luke2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Suzie are really lovely people. They were very welcoming on arrival and made me feel right at home. Their cottage is beautiful and in a lovely setting. My room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The cottage is in a very quiet location so I slept really well. Suzie made me a delicious breakfast each morning and offered to drive me places for a small fee instead of getting a taxi as the taxis are very expensive. I honestly don’t have one bad thing to say about myself, I thoroughly enjoyed it and they even gave me a bag of their freshly picked tomatoes to nibble on my long journey home. Very lovely and thoughtful people! I highly recommend staying here.

Our apartment is good for couples and solo travellers. Attached to our house, this is a small but very comfortable and modern space, with private entrance and patio garden. We are situated in a village within the Tamar Valley which is on the border between Devon and Cornwall. You have easy access to all areas of the Southwest, and particularly the parks of Dartmoor and Bodmin, the city of Plymouth and the market town of Tavistock. It is a great area to explore or just to relax.
Lower Metherell is a friendly little village with a 15th Century country pub less than 5 mins walk away from our home. Other pubs, a village shop and medieval church are nearby in Harrowbarrow and St Dominick.
  • The apartment is spotlessly clean, modern and comfortable. Location is ideal for walking around the local area, to include Cotehele House. There is a great pub within a couple of hundred yards, serving excellent food. The moors of Dartmoor are 30 minutes away.

  • Lovely little cottage, great for a couple who want to go out exploring!

    Georgina2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely place to stay - a haven of peace and tranquility. It has many extra small touches that make it easy and comfortable. Clean and simple and warm. Amanda had already put on the heating for me so it would be warm for my arrival. The shower is fabulous, and the kitchen well equipped if you want to cook for yourself. And both Amanda and Stu willing to help out and advise where needed, but respectful of privacy too. Thank you both very much.

    Marina2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Amanda was a fantastic host, everything in the annexe has been thought of for a guests comfort. Even supplying tea coffee and biscuits. The Tamar Valley is known for it outstanding beauty and to be able to stay somewhere so comfortable and affordable is a treat in this area. I am a Supervisor for a holiday company I found this annexe fantastic

  • Fabulous little place to stay in a great location for exploring the Tamar valley and Dartmoor. The pub 2 minutes walk away served delicious food and welcomed my dog which was nice. The apartment has everything you'd need for a relaxing stay- I’d definitely recommend Amanda's place!

The Forge is a unique place full of character set at the edge of Dartmoor and only 2 miles from the market town of Tavistock. The Forge is a great place for cyclists and walkers, or if you just want to get away from it all. The Cornish Coast is not far and the city of Plymouth full of history is just a short car journey. Tavistock has the markets and lovely cafes and restaurants. The Forge has a log burner to snuggle up next too on those chilly evenings and a garden to enjoy.
The Forge has a log burner and under floor heating so it can be occupied through the year. The first basket of logs will be complimentary and after that please purchase from us. We welcome dogs and we just ask that dogs do not go on the furniture and respect that others will visit that do not have them. We can supply dog beds, blankets and dog towels for their stay if you forget anything.
The Dartmoor views speak for themselves, walking, cycling or just sitting watching the world go by eating an ice cream. There are some lovely local pubs, Peter Tavy Inn and Elephants Nest 16th Century Inn.
  • This is the second time we have stayed at The Forge and although we knew it was going to be a great stay we had forgotten about all the little things that Victoria has thought about which make the stay even better. As before the weather was not good but once inside it made no difference as with the fire roaring the place is cosy and very peaceful. We will be booking again when we return to the area.

    Paul2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a real find. Everything you could wish for and more. The Forge is the perfect getaway place. Great location and so warm and cosy. We loved every minute and definitely want to go back.

  • A space that really lives up to all the reviews. Such a homely place to stay, and the location is fantastic. Such lovely additional touches. Felt particularly cosy even with the storms going outside. Hoping to stay again with better weather. Thank you so much Victoria.

  • Yet another perfect stay at the Forge! Victoria is the perfect host, and just goes above and beyond with all the thoughtful extras!

    Jack2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very well thought out, well equipped and cozy converted stone building, with a great location near both the open moor and the amenities of Tavistock.

    Katherine2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage, spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped throughout. Lots of really nice extra touches like treats left for our dogs, plenty of wood supplied on arrival for the fire, fresh eggs and milk, so much more than we would expect. Great location, just a few minutes drive from Tavistock and our favourite pub the Peter Tavy. Host Victoria’s communication was excellent, highly recommend this place and would not hesitate to book again in the future.

    Jolene2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Forge is a wonderful place to stay - it is clean tidy and beautifully finished with lots of thoughtful touches. Would highly recommend to anyone and everyone!

    Holly2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely gorgeous cottage in a lovely location. The cottage is only a couple of miles from Tavistock town and really easy to find. Its equipped with everything you can need and more & Victoria has thought of lots of extra lovely additions (Prosecco, popcorn, dog treats, spare toiletries, etc). We stayed for 3 nights & went out hiking in the day & the cottage was the perfect retreat to return to. We brought our own extra logs & kindling for the woodburner which I would recommend but the host did offer to re-stock for a small cost each day. I would highly recommend & hope to return in the future.

  • Myself and my boyfriend absolutely loved staying at The Devon Lodge. The lodge itself is absolutely stunning and couldn’t fault it one bit. The hot tub is just an added bonus and even though we had rainy weather we still made the most out of it. The smart tv also came in handy of an evening when it was raining. The lodge has all the essentials you need and was nice to arrive to milk and Cava in the fridge as well as tea/coffee and chocolates . Sarah is only a message away if you need her and replies within minutes. Definitely going recommend the lodge to people I know and already looking at coming back next year! So glad I came across this find and thank you for having us, was a perfect get away. Xxx

  • We stayed in number 20 at the end of the drive. On the ground floor is a double bed in the main room with two singles in the other, both had their own bathroom. Upstairs led to the lounge area on the left with dinner and kitchen to the right, with a balcony in front. This is in a rural location, so nice peaceful and relaxing.

    Katherine2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly beautiful place to stay. Its location is esquisite as it offers a tranquil, calm setting (really feeling like you are in the middle of no-where) whilst being within close proximity to amenities and attractions. Straight away, we were at ease and looking forward to our stay due to first rate communication from Alison the host. We were given a very informative guide to attractions in the area, local supermarkets, beaches, and most importantly.....PUBS! The cabin is impeccably clean and it is clear that the owners have taken great care in making sure their guests are well catered for. All the necessary utensils in the kitchen to host a good family meal, and there is plenty of room to do so. During our stay, some of our friends visited with a toddler and we were glad to see that a high chair was also available. A mention must also be given to the fabulous power of the shower!!!!!!!!! It must be said that the St Mellion golf resort that borders Oakridge is worth a visit. My husband played golf with a friend here and they had a thoroughly enjoyable day as it is a challenge yet rewarding course (also ideal for the ladies as we had fabulous spa treatments whilst play was in action)! Dreamy location, calming atmosphere, and thoughtful host.

  • One of the best Airbnb’s I’ve ever stayed in! Beautiful little cottage in lovely surroundings. We used the cottage as a writing retreat and it was perfect, with a big table and cosy fire. We also loved that we were provided with some breakfast bits. The leaping salmon is also a nearby pub which we highly recommend for food! Thanks :)

  • We had an amazing stay at The Studio! Bids was really hospitable providing breakfast for a couple of days which (eggs, porridge and milk) lasted us the whole stay! This was really thoughtful. The studio was really clean and had everything we needed for our stay; shower gel, hairdryer, clean towels, cooking utensils. We had plenty of leaflets and reccomendations with places to visit and places to eat throughout our stay. Bids was really friendly and we hope to return soon if we are in the area!!

Authentic character and quaint quirkiness in a charming village makes Miners Cottage a special retreat. The cottage went through an entire refurb recently and now offers a lovely log fire, lots of wall heating, crisp white cotton linen and new high quality mattresses promising to guarantee a cozy, comfortable and relaxing stay.
Typical cozy tin mine cottage, completely refurbished recently. A special retreat for weekenders and walkers. Relax in front of the log burner or take a stroll down to the lively Tamar Inn for a sumptuous meal or drink. Art galleries, live music and a cake & coffee shop bring the sleeping village to life. Calstock is also a great base from which you can explore Cornwall.
The village (and parish) of Calstock is situated on the River Tamar several miles east of Callington and 12 miles upstream from Plymouth in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a pretty village with cottages lining the narrow streets as they climb up the steep bank of the Tamar. Calstock is dominated by the magnificent railway viaduct which was built in 1907 and is one of the last great railway viaducts. Standing at 120 feet tall with 12 sixty foot arches, the viaduct carries the Tamar Valley railway which runs from Plymouth to Gunnislake. About a mile down the Tamar is Cothele, a mediaeval/Tudor house and estate now owned by the National Trust. Built between 1485 and 1627 it is a fine example, and considered one of the least-altered houses of the period in the United Kingdom. Along with the restored working watermill, the riverside gardens and quay are well worth a visit. Whilst now-a-days Calstock is a fairly sleepy backwater it has a long history as an industrial post. In Roman times it was already settled and possibly a tin trading post and from Saxon times it was definitely a port. Calstock's heyday was in the 19th century when it was a booming mining town with a population of around 7,000. Copper, tin, tungsten and even silver were mined here and there was a granite quarry neaby. These were then all shipped downstream from the town's quay. However, with the decline in the mining industry Calstock became a sleepy riverside village with the remains of the engine houses as a reminder to its past fortunes. Although the Tamar is still navigable by small boats up to Calstock, the railway replaced it as the primary source of transport.
  • Characterful little gem of a cottage in a beautiful location. The house is cosy and stylish, equipped with everything you may need for a holiday stay. Thoughtful touches that exceeded expectation. Hope to return and would definitely recommend.

  • We have just had the most enjoyable break at Tim’s lovely Miners Cottage. A comfortable little place to stay, full of Cornish character and cosiness. We even had a cream tea to welcome us and a bottle of wine to share in front of the wood burner, after a long day exploring Dartmoor. Would most definitely recommend.

Recently converted cottage for a romantic, cosy get away on the edge of Dartmoor. Well equipped and decorated with an eye for detail and colour. Perfect location to explore Devon and as it is only a few miles from the border with Cornwall one can easily explore the all the amazing things these counties offer.
The Wool Shed has a large open plan living room with snug, corner sofa, wall mounted flat screen TV with DVD and wonderful wood burning stove making it a fantastic place to relax & unwind after galavanting around the stunning beauty of Dartmoor. There is also a large bedroom with kingsize bed, bathroom with bath & proper shower and a well equipped kitchen to whip up delicious meals from the fantastic local produce we have available in the area.
Located at the end of a small lane, surrounded by rolling farm land with views towards Cornwall - the Wool Shed is a little piece of heaven. Tavistock, a World Heritage Site, is only 3 miles away and has lots of fantastic food shops and restaurants; the Farmers Market has just been voted best in the South West and is well worth a visit. The little hamlet of Chaddlehanger is only 6 miles from the border with Cornwall so you are well placed to explore both Devon and Cornwall, the wonderful beaches on the North and South Coasts of Devon are within easy reach as well as masses of places to see and adventures to be experienced.
  • We had a lovely stay, a very dog friendly place. Very helpful and accommodating and spoilt with scrumptious cake. The wool shed was clean and it was lovely to chill with soup and a roaring fire while playing go fish. There is so much to do in the surrounding area but you can also get in to Cornwall if you like. Would definitely recommend and visit again

  • Lovely little cottage in an ideal location for exploring Dartmoor. The local produce and cake that was left for our arrival where all very tasty. Cottage is equipped with everything you will need for your stay. The log burner was a lovely touch and kept us warm during the cold wet evenings.

  • Exactly as pictured, great welcome basket and host very keen to ensure everything was ready. A lovely area of Devon at the bottom of a lane which was ideal for a morning walk, with close access to lots of other lovely walks and Tavistock is a great place & not far away. We were able to take our 2 dogs, which is an added bonus. Space was thoughtfully decorated and you can see everything has been well thought through. Everything we needed was there.

  • Annie is a marvellous host, the welcome pack was most welcoming! The accommodation is lovely and warm, even in the middle of January. This really is a great bolt hole just a few minutes drive from Tavistock, we hope to be back.

  • Whilst it feels nicely off the beaten track within two minutes you are on the road into Tavistock. A great position for the town and the moors. We found the cottage spotlessly clean, very well appointed with a welcome basket of essentials including bread and eggs.....and brownies. The real bonus was our great hosts, Annie and Alistair who made us feel very comfortable. We will certainly return.

  • We booked a 3 night stay and had a lovely time. The cottage is nicely decorated and very cosy, made extra special by the welcome hamper. It had everything we needed and was a great location for exploring Dartmoor and days out.

    Charlotte2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • I booked this stay for my parents. Annie’s communication was great. It was a lovely rural retreat for them away from the hustle and bustle and good all being on one level so no stairs etc to negotiate.
