Places to stay in Cheriton Bishop
One of a small group of wooden lodges built in a quiet valley on the banks of the river Teign in Dartmoor National park. Woodland walks from the doorstep. Wild birds and flowers, deer, fishing (day/week permit) starry skies. Small play area. The lodge is warm and cosy and well equipped for up to 5 people maximum. A fast road network only 10 mins away gives an easy journey and access to the beaches in South Devon, North Cornwall and the south west of England.
The only sound at Mole End is the river which runs behind the cabin. Fallow deer are spotted regularly from the windows, and kingfishers and dippers are often seen on the riverbank. With very little light pollution, the stars at night are fantastic. Four steps lead up to a porched entrance which opens into a small hallway with coat hanging space. The living room is bright and spacious with French doors which open onto a large, south west facing, covered veranda where one can enjoy the sun, and make use of the gas barbecue. The living room with high pitched ceiling, has ample comfortable seating and a dining area. There is a coal effect electric heater for instant warmth and night storage heaters for background heat. The lodge heats up and retains it's warmth, so it is very cosy. There is a television, DVD player, CD player and MP3 docking station. Also a selection of books and games for anyone to enjoy. For children there is a toy box and “ wet weather box” for those who want to be creative. The well equipped kitchen opens sociably off the living room, with electric cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, bread machine, kettle and toaster. The double bedroom which overlooks the river is at the rear of the lodge. It has generous storage and a wall mounted heater. Please note that bed linen is not generally supplied but special arrangements can be made. There are duvets, rugs and pillows on all the beds. The bathroom also has river views , a full sized bath with integral shower, wash basin, w.c. , heated towel rail, immersion heater and washer/tumble dryer. Upstairs from the gallery there is a high view of the forest, where deer can often be seen. Here there is a cabin bed to curl up with a book but which can be used for a 5th guest. The twin room under the eaves looks out to the river. It has ample storage and an electric wall heater.
Many activities are available nearby; walking, riding, cycling, golf, fishing. Permits for fishing on the Upper Teign , which is a "catch and return" river can be bought locally. There are wonderful country pubs and restaurants nearby, with the pub at Fingle Bridge along the bridle path by the river.
  • Perfect cabin to slow down and enjoy the surrounds for a few days.

  • Lovely lodge right by the river. Gorgeous nature and lovely walks right from the front door. Joy gave us a great tip about getting croissants from the local shop which was delicious advice. Lovely place for a get away with friends to mark the start of 2020!

  • Mole End is extremely clean, cosy and welcoming. All you could need is provided from utensils to a washer/dryer. Joy, the host, is very accommodating and very easy to communicate with. She provides lots of information prior to your visit and also in the lodge which is useful during your stay. Would highly recommend staying here, an ideal location to explore the surrounding area or further afield.

  • Stunning property, idyllic and peaceful location, just what was needed for some quality family time before the chaos of Christmas ensues. We couldn’t recommend Mole End highly enough and will definitely love to return again and again for future stays.

  • The lodge is lovely and cozy with scenic views. The surrounding is very peaceful, perfect for a weekend getaway. Best place if you want to getaway from your busy city life. Will definitely come back. Joy was very quick with her response and very informative.

  • Mole end is an absolute beauty. The cabin it's self has everything you could need and the location is perfect. Will definitely be returning. Perfect for a break from normality.

  • Lovely base for exploring. The weather wasn’t on our side during our visit unfortunately, but this did not detract from our visit. The lodge was a lovely, cosy base from which to explore. Our 2 year old a had a super time as did we.

  • My stay was very short but I am sure I will be back (I travel for work and have also recommended this accommodation to colleagues) Bernard made me feel welcome and his home is very homely ,warm and clean. I can’t comment on the area because I was only there over night and sadly didn’t get time to explore.

    Lisa2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Bernard’s while on a cycle across the country. It was just what we needed, in an excellent location and Bernard made us feel at home. Thank you

  • Bernie is a great host and we enjoyed our stay in his home. It's a good central place to explore Devon. Our room had plenty of storage space and a comfy bed. The area is quiet but in short walking distance of a small supermarket and coffee shops and restaurants. The food was very good in the Union Inn. We loved Mr. Biggles the cat. He's so very friendly and lovable.

The Byre is a self contained studio apartment located just 3 minutes from the A30. Within easy reach of Dartmoor National Park, The Two Moors Way, cathedral city of Exeter and the coast, this property is a little gem. Sympathetically renovated in 2019, it retains the original oak beams, inglenook fireplace and undulating cob walls which are up to a metre thick. Our central heating ensures you have a cosy stay but feel free to light the wood burner to enhance your stay.
The Byre is a stunning studio apartment with a well equipped kitchen, a compact bathroom including a power shower and comfortable lounge area with wide screen TV. The property overlooks fields with horses often grazing along the fence. We have two lawned areas, one specifically for guests to enjoy the tranquillity of rural Devon. Unfortunately the property is not suitable for wheelchair users as there are stairs.
Whether you enjoy walking on Dartmoor, visiting the coast or visiting local National Trust properties such as Castle Drogo, Cheriton Bishop is at the heart of Devon. We have a selection of laminated OS maps which you are welcome to borrow and suggested walks. There are several cycle trails, the Exe Estuary trail, Okehampton to Lydford ( Granite Way ) and the Dartmoor Way which is 95 miles.
  • Great cosy place- lots of nice touches.

  • We visited for a wedding in the village and it worked absolutely perfectly. Check in was really easy and quick. The space was lovely and clean, and very comfy with everything we needed for a short stay. Couldn’t have asked for more.

  • A lovely barn conversion with thoughtful use of the available space. Nicely decorated and well equipped.

    Kenneth2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The location was ideal for a wedding that we were invited to near by and the apartment was fantastic with all the little extras that Gordon and Elaine had included. It was very comfortable, clean and perfect for our needs. Gordon and Elaine were very welcoming and helpful with local tips.

    Stephen2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really lovely place to stay, and if anything the pictures don’t do it justice. We attended a wedding at the nearby Higher Eggbeer venue, and this was perfectly located - just a simple 15 minute walk up the road. Sadly we only stayed one night but would’ve loved to stay for longer. Highly recommended.

    Ryan2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This barn is beautiful, cosy and very well converted with interesting features. The kitchen has everything you need to self cater, the bed was really comfortable and the fire was lovely to sit by at night. A great rural location with many interesting places nearby. Gordon and his wife where fabulous hosts with lots of local info, overall a fantastic place to stay

Beautifully decorated-well equipped stone cottage with wood burner set in a 50 acre private nature reserve with lake. Woodland and riverside walks, or cycle (borrow our bikes), Dartmoor, Fingle Woods. Excellent walking, biking, horse riding, golf, wildlife, best wild swim spot in South West, games barn.
Mardon is accessed via a stable door into a lounge with woodburning stove and dining area, a separate well equipped kitchen and a cloakroom with shower and toilet on the ground level. There is a TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs. A DAB radio which connects via bluetooth to your ipad/iphone enables you to bring your own music on holiday with you. There is an OS map in the bookcase so you can plan your walks in the local area and not get lost in the 45km of recently opened paths in Fingle Woods. Upstairs there is one double bedroom and one triple bedroom, and a family bathroom with a bath. The triple bedroom has stairs up to a mezanine level. This is an ideal play area for older children or younger children under supervision, since it is accessed up steep stairs (there is a stair gate at the bottom). All beds have pocket sprung mattresses as we know from experience how an uncomfortable mattress can spoil your holiday. The well equipped kitchen includes electric cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and Nespresso Machine. There is access from the kitchen via a stable door to a south-facing private fenced garden with paved area and garden furniture. A bird feeder just outside the lounge window attracts a wide range of birds to the garden. A new district biomass central heating and hot water system, alongside double glazing throughout and a woodburner make the cottage extremely cosy. The cottage is beautifully decorated and all soft furnishings are home made, making it a really relaxing space. There are plenty of areas to relax in outside. You can relax in the private garden and watch the many birds that come to the feeder, you can take a stroll or sit on one the benches by the lake, walk up Sunny bank field to watch the sun set. Play table tennis/snooker/table football in the rustic games barn. Space for children to explore, make dens, games barn or large undercover barn for wet weather play. A communal washing machine is also available for use.
Nestled in the heart of the beautiful wooded Teign Valley on Dartmoor - a stone throw from the National Trust's Fingle Woods (850 hectares of ancient woodland - footpaths, wildlife haven, mountain biking), Clifford Barton is surrounded by 50 acres of woodland with stunning 2 acre lake (½ mile away) with yoga platform, which you are welcome to wander around and enjoy. Rustic games barn (table tennis, snooker and table football). 4 miles down river from Drewsteignton. Short walk to Dunsford Nature Reserve at Steps Bridge, spring daffodils, riverside walks to Castle Drogo, riverside pub. Great pubs for food and beer. Wonderful for wildlife and birdwatching, cycling. The best wild swimming spot in the South West. Three golf courses within 5 miles. Exeter, 8 miles. A kids paradise with space to be outside, build dens play in the games barn. Miniature Pony Centre nearby. Haldon Forest- go ape, rent bikes, bike trails and skills area. Kids or adults may like to take a green woodworking course at Clifford Barton where you can learn traditional pole lathing and saw horse skills and make something beautiful for your home, such as a stool, peg boards, rolling pin or light pull to remind you of your holiday.
  • We had a great stay and would definitely recommend it. The cottage was spotlessly clean and brilliantly equipped. We only stayed two nights but it would be perfect for much longer stays. The facilities on site were great, with the games room and bikes, and we had a great walk out to the pub for lunch. Vicki was friendly and committed well. We will definitely be back. 👍 👍

    Charlie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A comfortable, stylish cottage in a beautiful location surrounded by stunning countryside. We particularly loved walking to the lake, our dog had a great time too.

  • Mardon is a hidden gem. What a terrific find and a lovely place to spend the weekend. Right on the edge of Dartmoor yet within easy reach of the City of Exeter. The Property was sparkling clean and Vicki had left a lovely cake for us on arrival. We made good use of the woodburner which was fantastic and we'd love to stay again. Highly recommended.

    Andrew2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a bird watchers haven! We absolutely loved our time staying at Mardon Cottage, so tranquil and idyllic, our boys slept so well and even gave us a sleep in each day- (Unheard of!) I honestly did not want to leave, it was a rest for the soul and I would most definitely recommend if you want to escape and experience the tranquility of the countryside and beauty of the bird life

    Phoebe2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great place , wildlife amazing , really peaceful and great access to one of dartmoors top 10 walks without getting in the car..

    Frances2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, cosy, fully kitted out cottage. Kitchen has the usual appliances: fridge-freezer, cooker and oven, microwave, sink etc, with utensils and staples to match. There are two bathrooms - the downstairs has a toilet, sink and shower cubicle, whilst the upstairs has a toilet, sink and bath. Upstairs are two large rooms, with a large double bed in one room, and a double bed and single bed in the other. From the second bedroom a set of steep steps leads into an open loft/mezzanine area with a bunch of toys including a wooden train table! There are stair gates at the bottom of every set of stairs for protection. We had a great time here - we're already looking to next year to come back!

    Tim2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is lovely - it’s stylish and more spacious than we expected. Vicki and Gavin were fabulous hosts; the emails we received pre-arrival were really helpful and they were always on hand to help answer any queries. We arrived to a delicious homemade victoria sponge and bottle of local apple juice, and a ready prepared wood burning stove which made the whole experience wonderful. It’s so peaceful there we slept like logs. Altogether a lovely stay.

A delightful one bedroom chalet near to the picturesque village of Drewsteignton. The chalet is located within a small holding with the family home close by. The property is within close proximity to the A30 and within 16 miles of Exeter Airport. The self contained chalet comprises a double bed, fully equipped kitchen and shower room. Wi-Fi. We do have a number of animals on the small holding, which are kept in a separate area. The chalet is popluar with walkers on the Two Moors Way close by.
The chalet is located within Dartmoor National Park with plenty of opportunities for the adventurous. Two moors way can be accessed quickly, as can the beautiful river Teign and a host of National Trust properties.
  • Surprisingly comfortable and spacious. If you're staying in winter pack your slippers/thick socks if you're planning on cooking (it's a tiled kitchen!). Stunning views.

It was the perfect place to recharge after a rather challenging Week, it was peaceful homely and private. One of their cats came to join us and she was very welcomed, nothing beats a cosy home with a cat on our laps!!

  • We really enjoyed our stay despite it raining the whole time - The covered area outside the door was very handy! We were also very cosy when inside! It was lovely to arrive to a delicious home made cake and the hosts were on hand for anything we needed. Our dog enjoyed the woodland at the property and we also visited Parke (NT) and did a woodland walk by Steps bridge. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Our house is a 300 year old dwelling and former forge, we live in one half and the space for guests is the old forge half of the building. It is situated in a mid-Devon village with good access to nearby Dartmoor and close to the villages of Drewsteignton and Chagford. Lovely river walks along the Teign valley and easy access to lots of attractive places in Devon. The house itself is full of character, has central heating and wood burners so is very cosy. Visitors have their own access.
Two double bedrooms, bathroom, sitting room, new fitted kitchen and entrance hallway. Own access.
Village on the edge of Dartmoor in mid-Devon. Easy access to historic city of Exeter and Dartmoor national park with lots of walking, pretty old villages and country pubs.
  • The Annex at the Forge is a great place to spend a few days. With the fire going it is super toasty. Well equipped for cooking and great power shower. It’s brilliantly located right in the heart of the village: shop and pub just a few steps away. Claire and Tony were great hosts and really friendly. We’d definitely stay again on our next trip to Cheriton Bishop.

    Scott2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage that we stayed in during a wedding at the nearby Higher Eggbeer farm. The cottage is lovely and Claire was great with communicating. Claire made sure we were stocked up with everything we’d need for breakfast and tea. Beds were so comfy. We were all very happy with our stay

    Cat2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Claire is a fantastic host and her property is really cosy. We stayed for a long weekend and were very comfortable with four adults and two under twos. Thanks Claire!

    George2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect base for taking a few tours of the moor; Claire and Tony's annex is large, well designed, decorated and equipped, with lots of interesting books and art. Our hosts were friendly and cultured, and ensured a cosy and easy arrival. Can only wish we were able to have stayed longer.

    Adam2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a truly wonderful time at Claire's - she had made such an effort to make us feel welcome by leaving delicious goodies and providing essentials for our little girl. Speaking of whom, she ADORED the hammock seat, such a happy bonus finding that was in her bedroom! Claire was communicative, kind and helpful. The space was comfortable and cosy - the photos don't do it justice. Located right near a pub, shop and the local wedding venue ut far enough away that it wasn't noisy in the slightest. We were sad that we weren't staying for longer as we had a really lovely time. I cannot recommend her place to stay enough :-) Thank you again Claire!

  • Tidy welcoming charming annexe. Lovely breakfast spread.

  • We stayed at Claire’s place whilst attending a festival wedding weekend at Higher Eggbeer. It was a very easy walk, perfect for the occasion if you’re not keen on caravans or tents! We arrived on the Friday in a horrible storm, and Claire and Toby had lit a fire for us before we arrived, it was such a lovely touch and we stayed all warm and cosy whilst the wind and rain howled outside!! They had also provided us vegan friendly options for breakfast, also a really nice touch. An absolutely amazing experience, we wish we’d stayed an extra night to really take advantage of the place!!

  • Lovely bedroom in a quaint cottage in a peaceful market town. Great location for some peace and quiet and to unwind. Host is very knowledgeable on the fascinating local history. Very enjoyable stay

  • Mary is very welcoming and comfortable. The bed is really comfortable. Her house is perfectly located for a day in the Dartmoor national park. There is no parking but you can park there not far in the streets.

  • Lovely room and hospitable helpful host.

  • Nice room in a great location. Mary was very helpful, especially with advice and local knowledge.

    Samuel2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • A real gem of a cottage. Mary was a friendly and helpful host. No on site parking but a nearby carpark was free (winter months)

    Nicola2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Mary is so friendly and helpful. In the middle of the village. Range of herbal teas

    Penny2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Mary’s is a traditional little cottage: cosy and charming. If you like huge windows, modern interiors brightly lit, huge rooms this may not be for you: this is a genuine, lived in and loved country cottage , not a shiny show home. Breakfast is lovely ( home made yoghurt and poached fruit!), the bed was so comfortable and I slept like a top. Location :on a very quiet street yet only round the corner from the town centre where everything is. So really handy. Mary is a mine of local info . I was in a car, and although theres no parking the public carpark is less than 5 mins walk. Mary is a basket maker and I had a 1 to 1 day with her and made my own basket to take home. I loved it! I’ll definitely be returning as soon as poss. I felt so well looked after. Thankyou Mary.

Characterful three storey cottage forming the end part of our 300 year old Devon cob Farmhouse. The cottage features a modern kitchen, huge Inglenook fireplace with log burner, luxurious wool carpets, low beams, big squashy sofa and a superking size master bed with pretty adjoining twin room on the very top floor. The cottage's own garden has two decked seating areas. Set in glorious rolling countryside near Dartmoor, Devon's gorgeous sandy beaches and the vibrant cathedral city of Exeter.
Higher Hollacombe Cottage is the semi detached end section of our traditional cob walled Devon farmhouse. Set in a valley amidst glorious rolling countryside away from main roads it's private garden is a peaceful place to relax and spot deer, foxes, rabbits, sparrowhawks, buzzards, badgers and bats. Inside, Higher Hollacombe Cottage has wooden beams and a wonderful Inglenook fireplace with real woodburner for cosy nights in. The kitchen has double french doors opening onto a small pretty decked area with table and chairs for al fresco dining. Further down the garden is another seating area with comfortable cushioned sofa and chairs to relax in and soak up the birdsong. If you're feeling more energetic there is a public footpath immediately behind the house which leads up a steep hill to the most spectacular views for miles around, from Dartmoor to Sidmouth! A small cottage staircase leads to the first floor main bedroom and it's luxurious super king size bed with new Tempur mattress. From this room another small staircase leads up to the open plan second floor bedroom with two single beds. Our family farmhouse and Higher Hollacombe Cottage are set in a quiet valley at the very end of a farm lane which we share with two other houses. We are a family home that enjoys the countryside and keep our own hens so you may get a fresh egg or two depending upon when you arrive! Higher Hollacombe cottage is a secluded and peaceful spot yet only a mile outside the bustling market town of Crediton with all it's amenities.
Quiet Devon Countryside, lots of birds and wildlife, so quiet and dark at night your ears tingle if you're not used to it!

  • Such a lovely little cottage, amazing fire and plenty of logs for our stay! We took the dogs with us and the garden was great, as it mentions in the description of the property the garden isnt 100%dog proof but as we knew this we just went with them so that they didnt wonder off, all good! Milk in the fridge, fresh towels, candles and all the utensils you need. We went for an adventure and walked from the cottage to Fingle Bridge and then on to Castle Drogo and then back to Fingle Bridge for a well needed pint! Thank you for your recommendations on where to go. All questions were answered quickly with good detail. Would deffo reccomend this little gem. Kirsty and Ash.

It had everything we needed and the wood burner made it feel really cosy. The location is a short drive away from lots of lovely little villages and nice places to go for walks. I would definitely stay here again.

  • This is a lovely cottage, perfect for staying in the area and is off the main road. Trystan was very communicative regarding check in, and was happy to contacted if any questions arose mid stay. and also recommended a local place to eat. There is a new cafe nearby (Drakes farm) which did an excellent breakfast. The cottage has a coffee machine (although I didn't try it) and all the equipment needed to cook. It was lovely to find some milk in the fridge on arrival. Beds are comfortable with bedding provided and the house is clean, cosy and warm. thanks!

Corona update - please be assured the cottage is very isolated so you can choose not to see anybody if you want to and still enjoy the countryside. We are currently open to monthly bookings, just get in touch to discuss. A luxury, thatched Devon bolt-hole on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. Recently renovated to a very high standard, this two person cottage oozes character and charm, while being a true luxury getaway. Situated in the Teign Valley, there are great walks from the doorstep.
This 17th Century, listed thatched cottage is an escape-to-the-country dream. Upstairs is stunning bedroom, with en-suite bathroom with built-in wadrobes, bath and separate shower. Perfect for lazing in bed and watching telly on a Sunday morning. The Scandi inspired sitting room has a comfy sofa for evenings in front of the wood burner, with big HD TV included. The kitchen has a range cooker, belfast sink and beautiful handmade units - equipped to cook everything from a delicious dinner to a Sunday roast. Then through to the dining room, which has huge oak framed windows, with views across the valley and two comfy chairs to gaze at the view or watch telly on a sunny day. The dining room table seats 4, so if you have booked neighbouring Rose Cottage with friends everyone can get together to eat. Out the door there are two terraces to soak up the sun and views.
There are 6 good pubs within a five minute drive of the cottage and the Teign Valley is well known for it's excellent walks through woods and across hillsides. The Dartmoor National Park is a short drive away and the lovely Devon coast is within 25 minutes. And, if you're in need of retail therapy, Exeter is just 7 miles away.
  • An amazing traditional and yet stylish devon bolt hole to escape to whilst being in easy reach of the moors and local pubs. Highly recommended couples staycation

    Tamsin2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cottage. The bed was an absolute dream. Quick responses from the host. Would definitely recommend.

    Donna2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures do not give this cottage any justice! It is outstandingly beautiful, with the scenery outside and the cosy, comfortable atmosphere inside. We truly recommended trying this cottage, I agree with a lot of the previous reviews, I wish we had booked to stay longer. I got a severe case of the holiday blues waking up on that last morning. We too would recommend the Nobody Inn pub, fantastic service and the food was delicious. Very fortunate we found this cottage, I am hoping that we can book this up again and again.

    Charlotte2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • The amenities and extra touches in the cottage, twinned with the location, provide everything you need for a cosy escape.

    Olivia2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage in an idyllic location. This was our second stay and we’d love to come back for a third.

    Tony2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • West Walk Cottage is everything a couple (& dog) could possible need for a relaxing country retreat. Tastefully appointed, with beautiful artwork hanging on every wall, it's country chic with London amenities. We loved: the wood burner, the fully-kitted out kitchen, the light dining area, the bed (super soft & comfy) and the greenery just a step outside for the dog. The cottage is picture-perfect, not a detail has been missed and it's in the best location on the edge of Dartmoor. The weather was mostly wet, so we made the most of the fire and pubs. You HAVE to visit The Nobody (10mins drive) they do a great lunch and dinner - and it's dog friendly. Thanks again for a wonderful break from real life. We will absolutely be back in summer for wild swimming and walks!

    Rachael2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • This wonderful cottage was perfect for the weekend escape we were seeking. Full of character, it has been modernised to a very high standard, whilst retaining its charm. Great location - a peaceful and scenic ‘away from it all’ feel but still accessible. Loved it!

A single room with morning light, in a peaceful terraced house 5 minutes walk from village centre and overlooking the jasmine and cherry tree and the moor beyond. The village has shops, tearooms, crafts, pubs and easy access to fantastic walks and bike rides. Help yourself breakfast available. A simple retreat in a welcoming home.
Warm, welcoming, clean and lived in. This is a light three-bedroom house in a friendly crescent of terraced houses in this Dartmoor village of Moretonhampstead. Shared with an easy going owner, keen on yoga, meditation, walking, writing and having a laugh, you can be sure of a relaxed and calm atmosphere. The bedroom is compact and light and the bed very comfortable, with a view over Hingston Rocks and the moor beyond. A hot drink can be provided on arrival. For winter guests, a water bottle and blankets are there to keep you warm. Local information can be found on the bookshelf, hangers on the back of the door and there is a small chest of drawers for storage. I have two cats who are always kept out of the guest bedroom, whether it's occupied or not. I live 5 mins walk from shops, art gallery, potteries, cafes, independent pizzaria and a popular friendly gastropub, known for its great music nights and delicious food.
Moretonhampstead is known as the 'gateway' to the moor. It's an old market town or village with a population of about 1,700. There are great walks straight from the door, as I live two minutes from the fields that lead to views back over the moor to the prominent feature of Haytor. My favourite is walking up through the fields and ancient walkways which open out to the Fingle Wood valley below. Mardon Down, the local hill, is a good hours circular walk. A 20 minute drive to the high moor though and you can roam, cycle, climb or river swim all day. In the summer there is also a heated outdoor swimming pool (Devon loves its outdoor pools) 5 minutes walk away. There is also a river-fed solar heated outdoor pool, 15 minutes drive away in Chagford, a pretty market village with interesting shops and good cafes - both villages active with community life on a Saturday.
  • Small but cozy room in a lively town with cheerful pubs and hospitable locals. Cath is a great host, and Max the cat lovely company!

    Nick2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Cat's place is really nice and welcoming, and cat is a sweet and helpful host. Her home is a very short walk into town and the room is sweet as well, and does indeed have nice morning light. And she makes a great cup of morning coffee!

    Tupko2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • It is a really nice experience to spend weekend with Cat and her cuddly cats!Well-location and beautiful view. There is no bus on Sunday and Cat give me a lift to Bovey Tracy. Thank you for your hospitality!!!

    Olive2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Cat’s home has a calm welcoming vibe. The room is small but spotlessly clean with nice touches ( e.g. the flowers) The bed is comfortable and everything was perfect for an overnight stay. Hard to say which Cat was most welcoming - the host Cat or her rather chunky non stop purring tabby cat.....

    Jane2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay. Absolutely everything you could need. I loved swimming at the open air pool, only 5 minutes walk away. Fabulous countryside to explore in every direction.

    Candy2016-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Within a few minutes walk of the town and pubs, church, art galleries and walks within Dartmoor National Park, a very comfortable bed, shower and room with views of the moors. An information library on a small book shelf. The garden was full of herbs abd birds in the jasmine. Perfect for a one night or longer stay and good value. I was even allowed to arrive early. Easy parking on the road outside.

    Robert2016-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay, friendly host, very clean and relaxed accommodation. Thank you! :)

    Alexander2016-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Cat was an amazing host. I really enjoyed my stay. The room was clean and quiet and tea making facilities and water provided. Breakfast was perfect; cereal, toast, fruit, coffee etc. I felt really welcome and immediately warmed to Cat who treated me more like a visiting friend than a stranger. I would definitely visit again.

  • This place lives up to the description and pictures, above and beyond - it's a beautiful location and its quiet .. tranquil, great access to Dartmoor++ Alison & Pam were prompt with communications and the instructions of how to get to this beautiful place, spot on... the bed was very comfy and a well stocked kitchen... they kindly provided a lovely home-made cake and milk in the fridge for our arrival. It's great value too - a five star place. Thanks.

  • Beautiful location, great walking. Perfectly located for the stunning Dartmoor National Park

    Diane2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely secluded spot. We had a relaxing and quiet stay at Woodside and would definitely pay a return visit. Clean and very comfortable; warm with plenty of home comforts- we would highly recommend and we are looking forward to a return visit.

  • We visit Dartmoor regularly and always stay in hotels but not after staying at Alison's!! What a tranquil and peaceful spot! Our boxer dog Jeffrey loved his own secluded garden. You and your mum were so helpful and friendly. A truly wonderful getaway I will definitely be back but for longer!!!

    Tracy2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had a very relaxing stay at Alison’s place. The location was quiet and secluded but very easy to reach and within an easy distance of Exeter and Dartmoor. The welcome touches were very much appreciated and everything we needed was there. Thanks for a great two nights.

    Mark2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Spent 2 nights at Alsiosns wonderfull Woodside lodge. Very welcoming when we arrived and it was such a cosy and comfortable accommodation set in beautiful surroundings that offer plenty of opportunity to go exploring and experience the wildlife. Highly recommend.

    Martin2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place for a weekend away. Alison and her mum were amazing when we had any questions they came back to us asap so communication was always great. There was also a baked lemon cake which was so tasty and such a nice touch. The view outside views around the cottage were amazing and driving to the place we also saw a deer crossing which was amazing to see. Alison gave instructions on how to reach on the cottage as the sat nav can take you the wrong way. If you are staying I would 100% recommend a trip to The Gateway Tea room and cafe which is in Moretonhampstead so a short drive away for great cakes and amazing service. There is a local Co-op also in to stock up on food if you do not want to travel down to Exeter. Exeter has some lovely dog friendly places to eat so well worth brining your dog.

  • We had a lovely stay here. The place is very accessible, yet hidden and very tranquil. We felt like we were in a peaceful oasis overlooking the lovely garden. Clean and comfortable, we couldn’t have asked for more.

Set in the heart of rural Devon, our artisan crafted oak barn provides a glorious self-contained first floor apartment. It is the perfect escape for those wishing to enjoy the tranquility of the rolling Devon hills. A stones throw away from Dartmoor and conveniently situated to explore both the north and south coasts. Also with easy access to the A30 for Exeter, Okehampton and onward travel.
The Barn, with its vaulted ceiling and huge gable window, makes it a wonderful bright open plan space. The barn also features a second bedroom, with a bunk bed and a cot. There is a small electric oven/hob and a dining space for four. The barn has a large separate bathroom with walk in shower. In the main open plan area there is a king sized bed with Egyptian cotton bedding and a comfortable lounge area with sofa, free-view television. There is a little cosy second bedroom, great for kids, featuring bunk beds and room for a cot. Free wifi and central heating throughout. A welcome breakfast selection is provided for the first night consisting of cereals, muesli and granola, as well as teas, coffee, milk and sugar.
Very close to Dartmoor, the barn is also convenient for exploring both coasts. In nearby Spreyton is the Tom Cobley, an award-winning pub, plus a great community shop selling local produce. The picture postcard village of Coleford is close by too.
  • Such a beautiful place to stay and Ilona was very welcoming and helpful. The Barn had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Great for country walks and our boys loved exploring and climbing on the tractor!!

    Katie2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a beautiful stay in the barn. Location is pretty rural so just have to be prepared to travel 20-30 mins to get to places. The interior and barn its self is stunning. LLona was very welcoming, slight trouble with power on the Monday (emergency power cuts which left us with no power from 9- 4:30pm) unfortunate but out of their hands. Overall it was a great trip and a highly recommended place to visit for a relaxing weekend away. Thanks Llona!

    Harriet2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great sized open plan Barn, ideal for a family of 4. Very nicely finished, the undercover parking is also very useful when you have to unload your car and its raining!

    Justin2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful space with an abundance of wood. Very relaxing and peaceful.

    Ben2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • IIona’s barn is really lovely - it’s been beautifully renovated and it’s very stylish. We stayed in November and the barn was really nice and warm and the bed was really comfy. There was a proper cot for our baby which was nice rather than a travel cot. The barn is in quite a remote location which is lovely if you’re after silence but if you’re planning on staying in make sure you have all the food you need before getting there as the nearest shop was a 20 min round trip down some country lanes.

  • What a fabulous place this is. A tranquil and beautiful setting that feels very remote but isn't far from the A30. The river runs behind the back of the lodge and there is a little children's playground if you have young ones. The lodge is very comfortable and the deck is perfect for eating outside or star gazing in the evening. We will be looking to book again!

  • This was our second stay at Trout Rise as we enjoyed the first so much. The location was as beautiful as we remembered and there had been some thoughtful updates and additions to the lodge. Thoroughly enjoyable thank you.

  • This is a really lovely comfortable lodge with everything as described (incl properly equipped kitchen) in a truly beautiful, peaceful spot. A great place for a few days relaxation, and a great base for exploring Dartmoor. Just be prepared for some really narrow lanes!

    Lucy2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay, the river in the back is the only sound that you’ll here, plus birds of all kinds! It’s such a lovely location, full of wilderness and countryside little roads to get lost at to discover Dartmoor Park. The facilities are perfect, very clean, good heating and water pressure, and kitchen with all necessary stuff. Totally recommended!

    Elena2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • My family of 4 had a fantastic stay at Trout Rise. The location is beautiful (very secluded and a good few miles from anything which was heaven!) and right next to the river which was lovely to wake up to. The amenities were great and we didn’t want for anything and the whole space has been furnished really thoughtfully making it feel large and spacious yet still cosy. The park itself was quiet and friendly and although the roads to get there were a lot narrower than we were used to, we found the majority of local drivers to be considerate and courteous. The children’s highlight was fetching fresh eggs from a local farm. We will definitely be returning soon!

    Louise2019-05-08T00:00:00Z

    Fred2019-09-24T00:00:00Z

We parked our car in the free car park which is 3 min walk through the church yard to the property opposite.

With private sunny garden, self contained entrance and parking space. In an accessible location within Dartmoor National Park, a beautifully appointed first floor apartment surrounded by stunning countryside. The Hide is filled with light and enjoys beautiful views. Quiet but convenient location on edge of a small residential development within a couple of minutes walk from the many local shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants that Moretonhampstead has to offer. Excellent wifi reception, smart TV.
A contemporary and bright apartment with everything you need to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, full central heating, king size comfy bed, Wi Fi, 40" Smart TV & digital radio. We provide a welcome pack and essentials like tea, coffee, milk, dishwasher tabs etc. There is also an enclosed garden for sole use. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool just around the corner from the apartment, open during the summer months only. The sports centre in the village has tennis courts and a fitness centre and in addition there are numerous golf courses nearby including a championship course at Bovey Castle, just a couple of miles away.
The ancient market town of Moretonhampstead is nestled on the eastern edge of the Dartmoor National Park. With hills on three sides and the beautiful Wray Valley on the fourth it’s perfectly placed for visiting the moors, the countryside and the seaside. Exeter, the capital city of Devon with its historic cathedral and quayside is less that 15 miles away, as are Newton Abbot, Okehampton and Princetown. Moretonhampstead is within an hour’s drive of both the stunning north and south coastlines.
  • The apartment itself is absolutely lovely, tastefully decorated, spotless throughout, well cared for and has countless additional thoughtful touches to make your stay enjoyable from a welcome basket with some nice nibbles and hot drink sachets, to a bird book and binoculars on the window ledge - there's too many to list. The kitchen is fully equipped if you wanted to cook your meals in the apartment - there's even a slow cooker. The apartment is situated at the back of a small, quite housing development and is within easy walking distance of the shops, bars and restaurants that Moretonhampstead has to offer. Our host was very helpful and responded to any enquiries in a timely manner, providing as much help and information as she could. I could not recommend this apartment or it's host highly enough.

The Barn is part of an historic farmstead. It was built from cob and stone in the 18th century and sits in a peaceful valley, a lovely place to get away from it all and enjoy the glorious Devon country side. It is on the edge of Dartmoor and next to the Two Moors Way. The pretty village of Drewsteignton is a couple of miles away with its historic pub The Drewe Arms and excellent restaurant, The Old Inn. The National Trust's Castle Drogo and estate is half a mile beyond the village.
I am an interior designer with an interest in historic buildings and The Barn used to be my studio. Two years ago we decided to convert The Barn to a holiday cottage. We have had a wonderful time creating the space and have tried to keep the alterations to a minimum so that it still sits happily with the other surrounding cob buildings. We used local traditional materials, cob, stone and lime plaster to create a light and airy space with contemporary fixtures and fittings including underfloor heating.
Tranquil and off the beaten track but only 3 miles from the A30 to Cornwall and 12 miles from the beautiful cathedral town of Exeter

The grounds that the barn is on are stunning- so quiet you can hear the creek at the bottom of the hill babbling along. The barn itself is styled perfectly, with such lovely homey touches. Comfy bed and wonderful amenities. And Jill and Mike are wonderful and friendly hosts. Hope to get back there one day soon! Loved our stay- thanks so much :)

  • Jane is a friendly and accommodating host, very thoughtful and kind such as greeting us with tea and cake, and bringing us plates for the picnic dinner we'd bought from a supermarket. The bedroom is spacious, light and very comfortable - lovely and warm on a cold Autumn night. The lounge/dining room was also large and comfortable, with everything we needed to spend a pleasant evening. The bathroom is sparkling with a powerful shower (and even a bath). And the location is great, rural and peaceful with beautiful views. All in all it was perfect!

  • Our stay was brief but very good. The accommodation is in a brilliant location, so peaceful. We thought it might be cold being a wooden lodge and it being the middle of winter but it was very warm indeed. The communication was perfect and the lodge was very clean too. We had fun playing in the river and on the swings in the morning before we left.

  • Dee and Richard are a sweet couple, warm, friendly and efficient in their communications. I stayed with my Mum in mid February, their home was warm, cosy and clean. You are greeted with fresh flowers, daily breakfast and complimentary fruit. After a day spent walking and battling the elements, we both enjoyed returning to their comfortable sofa with reclining seats ;-) I highly recommend their home in Dartmoor National Park.

  • We arrived at Dee and Richard's bnb after an exhausting seven hour drive through the stormy weather and it was like we arrived in heaven. They are the warmest, friendliest people. The house was so cosy, immaculately clean, breakfast and fresh provisions in the kitchen...I can't even express in words how amazing it was. I highly recommend it. Thank you Dee and Richard!

  • Outstanding hosts who went above and beyond to ensure I had a pleasant stay. Superb accommodation with a fantastic en-suite. A very comfortable bed with lined curtains. Contemporary and modern interior with good quality furnishings. Just the right lighting too, bright or lowly lit for a more intimate ambience. Nicola was very attentive and Sean was also great company. A wonderful couple who couldn’t do enough for you. Peaceful, warm, clean and spacious. Archie the Blue Picardy Spaniel and Fred the ginger tom cat compliment the home perfectly. Very good value for money. Highly recommended. Five stars.

  • Lovely place to stay. Nicky and Sean were great hosts and made you feel at home upon arrival. The breakfasts are lovely, be sure to try the poached fresh eggs :D Would definitely recommend to anyone staying down that way.

  • A little piece of heaven on earth.... What a lovely relaxing stay we have enjoyed at Nicky and Sean's warm and welcoming home. It was everything we love, and more! The accommodation is so sumptuous and stylish, with all the little touches that make it even more special. The bed is ultra comfortable so we had very restful nights. It is so peaceful in the house, with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside to enjoy in the day, and no light pollution to spoil it for those who like to look to the skies at night. Nicky provides a superbly delicious breakfast, and it was so nice to chat with her and Sean whilst enjoying our meal, in their bright and airy dining area, looking out on their beautiful garden. Archie, their gorgeous Spaniel, is a delightful little boy and we really enjoyed meeting him - although he is kept away for most of the time when guests are present so that he doesn't become a nuisance (as if!..he is such a poppet!). All in all we have experienced a real treat, and we highly recommend Nicky and Sean's home to anyone who appreciates being away from the hustle and bustle of town and enjoying every comfort. Thank you, Nicky and Sean, for being such kind and friendly hosts, and for providing such a lovely environment for your guests.

    Sarah2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Nicky’s place is luxurious, and she is super hospitable providing a great breakfast to send you on your way. Highly recommend it as a quite country stop over.

The Shed sits on a large lawn at Yarningale. Views are amazing. This is the ideal space for a holiday for one. There is a fridge, microwave, and hot water heater. Also an attractive canopy attached to the summerhouse with a patio heater, should the weather be a little chilly ! Picnic bench on the patio, where guests are able to sit and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings. Toilet and shower are a short walk to the house. Warm welcome assured. Lots to see and do in Dartmoor.
Views are amazing, and Yarningale is at the end of a tiny lane with no through traffice. Peace and quiet is assured

  • Such a gem of an AirBNB. Hosts totally brilliant and the shed is sublime - one of those AirBNBs that’s got all the little stuff you need and everything is so thoughtful. Can’t believe it’s at that price and will try and go again. Thank you guys! I loved the 5 minute walk down a footpath right onto moorland. Perfect!

    Phil2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little hut with great amenities (electric sockets and a fridge). Bed was comfortable and the hut was nice and cosy. Toilets and shower just a short walk and although the hut is close to the host's house it felt private. Communication with the hosts was great and I enjoyed the little walk recommended to me.

A unique experience: beauty, peace, wilderness. A private rural spot with far-reaching views over a stunning slice of wild Devon. Without foregoing luxury: immaculate linen, double bed, wood burner, subtle electric lighting, views up the Teign gorge to Dartmoor, covered well equipped outside kitchen, hammock, fire-pit & probably the finest composting loo in England. A short stroll down a leafy, private track to a conventional toilet, hot shower & wash room with fridge.
If you long to be on your own in the open countryside, in a secluded spot with far-reaching views over a stunning area of wild Devon, but also like the idea of little luxuries like solid walls and windows, a comfy double bed, wood burner and hot shower, come and spend a few days in Fingle Caban. Nestled on the edge of a native broadleaf woodland with wonderful views over a large south-facing field that we manage for wildlife and up the Teign gorge towards Fingle Bridge, Fingle Caban provides unique accommodation for two. The Caban has a sofa which pulls down (easily – can be deployed by one person) into a comfy full sized double bed, a woodburner (Chilli Penguin - made in Wales) to cosy up to on chillier evenings (wood supplied) and a stylish table and chairs. The Caban has been thoughtfully decorated and has full blinds so that you can enjoy a lie in- though we can’t guarantee the morning chorus will allow it! Outside is a well equipped, covered kitchen, a hammock, fire pit/BBQ, picnic bench and private composting toilet. A short walk down an oak and cherry lined private green lane (approx. 300m or 4min walk) takes you to a shower and toilet room and a wash room with sink, kettle, fridge, washing machine, power points, etc. Offering comfortable and stylish accommodation in an amazing setting, the Caban provides far more comfort and security than fabric structures but leaves no more trace than a tent when removed at the end of the season. Meticulously designed and built by innovative craftsmen in Snowdonia, with an impressively low carbon footprint, ‘Caban’ refers to the name given to Welsh mining cabins which offer shelter in remote but charming locations.
Nestled in the heart of the beautiful wooded Teign Valley on Dartmoor - a stone throw from the National Trust's Fingle Woods (850 hectares of ancient woodland - footpaths, wildlife haven, mountain biking), Clifford Barton is surrounded by 50 acres of woodland with stunning 2 acre lake (½ mile away), which you are welcome to wander around and enjoy.
  • Was a lovely place to stay and great if you're looking for a unique place to stay.

    Victoria2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little yurt tucked away in the corner of a field about 5 mins walk up a hill from the main farmhouse and cottages. Great views, feels really away from everything. There is a fire pit and mini kitchen area with drinking water supplied. We never found the composting toilet that was meant to be near the yurt but we just walked down to the main area to use the shower and toilet there which was really clean and nice. This is a really special and lovely spot!!! We would recommend to everyone.

    Amy2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Vicki’s place. The caban was situated in a secluded spot with stunning views. The amenities were just what we needed for a relaxing stay and Vicki gave super advice about things to do and good places to eat. We will defiantly be returning soon!

    Harriet2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a quiet, nourishing and relaxing countryside break, this is your place!! The location exceeds expectations and there's everything you need at Fingle Caban to experience a comfortable holiday. At the end of our trip, we didn't want to leave! Very friendly & helpful hosts. I'd recommend this to anyone.

    Yuko2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • WOW !! What an amazing find. This is truly a remote, secluded place to escape from life and just have time as a couple. Before going we didn’t know what facilities were in the kitchen so to help out future guests there was: * 2 gas hob * Gas kettle * 2 drinking water containers (pre filed with drinking water) * Cutlery selection * Cooking utensils * Frying pan * A couple of saucepans * Plates, mugs, bowls, glasses etc * Colander * Salt, pepper, washing up liquid, t,towel, scourer * Washing up facilities No oven, microwave etc. No electricity for the kitchen. But don’t let that put you off because what is there works fine. We spent the evening around the fire pit and then star gazing on the couples hammock. Perfect chilled evening. The compost toilet is fun !! With a great view. The facilities that are a 4 min walk away are great. But the walk back to the caban is up hill, nothing too taxing but worth noting. We will most definitely be returning. Tips * Take a cool box to keep milk, butter etc close by and cold as the fridge is down the hill. * Take marshmallows to warm over the fire pit. * Take a couple of extra blankets for the evenings so you don’t have to take out the ones from inside. * Take torches as it goes very dark ! * We charged our phones in the washroom down the hill or in the games room whilst we played snooker. You will not be disappointed- Enjoy 😊

    Lyn2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great views, cute little Caban perfect for a romantic getaway with all the privacy you need! Would definitely stay here again.

    Ashley2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here during an unexpected summer storm and it was warm, dry and cosy - not even a draught! Stunning location and great walks all around. I recommend ear plugs in case the squirrels wake you up, and a cool box so you can keep cool drinks within easy reach. Great outdoor kitchen, equipped with everything you'll need. The shower, although 4 minutes walk down the track, is lovely. This is our first glamping experience but won't be our last - totally recommend!

    Charlotte2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Vicki and Gavin were wonderfully helpful and accommodating hosts with great communication. The caban was an idyllic place to spend a few days and the views are truly breathtaking. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend without hesitation!

  • I can’t recommend Cosy Cottage enough! Amy & Adam are such incredibly thoughtful hosts, going the extra mile with so many lovely and unexpected little touches. Amy was so communicative from booking through to the end of our stay, making it all very easy. Their cottage has such a lovely history behind it and they’ve kept a mix of the old with modern chic, making it feel so warm and welcoming. We had a fab few days at Cosy Cottage, exploring nearby walking trails and would happily visit again!

Corona update - please be assured the cottage is very isolated so you can choose not to see anybody if you want to and still enjoy the countryside. We are open to monthly bookings currently, just get in touch to discuss the discount. Set in 50-acres of rural tranquility, with a view over our vineyard, this detached cottage is on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Beautifully appointed with 2 beds, 2 bathrooms and awesome living space with stunning views of the countryside.
A lovely cottage with everything you need to enjoy the Devon countryside. An 'upside/down' cottage, with two en-suite bedrooms on the ground floor and open plan living space upstairs to take advantage of great views of the fields and vineyard. Double bedroom with king bed and en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Twin bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. A camp bed can be added to the twin bedroom to increase occupancy to 5, but the fifth bed is only suitable for children under 12. An extra double bedroom is available for larger parties (by request only). It is detached from the main cottage with its own separate access, so only suitable for older children or adults. It has an en-suite bathroom with shower cubicle, please note the sink only has cold running water, but the shower is obviously hot. There is Sky + TV, 40mb Wifi, well appointed kitchen and a woodburner. Egyptian cotton sheets, comfy furnishings, beautiful views and peaceful countryside make this the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle.
Barnfield Cottage is on the edge of the stunning Dartmoor National Park and within the Swanaford Estate, a working English vineyard producing high quality sparkling wine. A dream for fans of the outdoors with great walks both from the cottage and up on the high moor. The Teign Valley has also become a popular spot for cyclists, with access straight from the property to a stage of the Tour of Britain and also good for mountain bikers at the nearby Haldon Forest trail. There are a number of good pubs nearby (Nobody Inn, Manor Inn, Artichoke, The Horse Mortenhampstead) and access to the great eateries and shops of Exeter is only 6 miles away. The beautiful south Devon coast is close by with lovely beaches at Exmouth, Teignmouth and Shaldon and many, many more within striking distance. There is beautiful wild swimming just a 5 minute walk from the front door of the cottage. Private access to fishing on the river Teign is included with the cottage. Salmon, Sea Trout and Brown Trout can be fished (with appropriate license) on the Teign in season or there is stocked lake fishing at the reservoirs of Tottiford, Trenchford & Kennick within 10 minutes. However, if all you want to do is relax in the countryside you will find everything you need for a break from the hustle and bustle at Barnfield Cottage.
  • The cottage was a great place for us, very cozy and clean and felt very homely. We spent my mums 50th here as she wanted a relaxing, quiet time in the countryside and we got better than we expected. The cottage is a little out of the way (about 20 mins drive to exeter, but it’s a pretty easy drive, so you can experience the countryside while not being too far from a city) and hard to find when you first get there (satnav came in very handy) but we found it a perfect location for what we wanted. We decided not to bring our dog as we thought the car ride was a bit far for him but if you have a dog this is sure to be a wonderful place for them, surrounded by nature where they can enjoy long walks. We’d love to return again but in the summer next time. Thank you for a great stay!

  • This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful area of the country. Even storm Dennis couldn't hide the beauty of the place. This is a must if you want a peaceful get away to relax and wind down away from busy every day lives.

  • This place was a last minute booking and turned out to be just perfect. The location of the cottage is stunning in a beautiful peaceful garden with the sound of a stream gently rippling in the distance. The living and kitchen space is upstairs which works really well as there are fabulous views from all the windows. We visited Exeter and Teignmouth which are in the area and also walked through the woods along the river from the house. We definitely want to come back to Barnfield Cottage it is an absolute gem!!
