Places to stay in Aldworth
Our Shepherds Hut nestles into it's own space just next to the house, it has an ensuite shower etc, double bed and gorgeous west facing country views. Only a five minute walk from the centre of the village it is a haven of peace and tranquility. Please note we have a 2 night minimum stay for single occupancy.
The Shepherds hut is equipped with everything you need to make your stay great, There is a fully stocked hospitality tray with a range of teas, coffees and fresh milk and home made biscuits. The shower has been praised as "the best this holiday" In the morning come over to the conservatory to enjoy a delicious breakfast, freshly squeezed orange juice, cereals, fresh fruit and yogurt. To follow, a choice of the full English breakfast, including our own hen's eggs cooked however you like them and toasted home made bread. The hut is really well insulated with sheep's wool keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter, however you are welcome to fire up the wood burning stove if you wanted it a bit warmer. There is no TV but free fast WiFi in the Shepherds hut and the conservatory.
Brightwell cum Sotwell is probably one of the most attractive villages in the area, the main road by passes the village so there is not a lot of traffic, it is a lovely place to wander around on a pleasant evening as there is such a range of lovely houses and gardens to admire. The traditional, thatched village pub is a great place to stop off, the food and beer are both great. The villagers are very friendly and there is a lot going on. Most weekends there is some event be it a village quiz, talent show, summer fete, and we have a live music festival once a year, Many of our guests have enjoyed one of these events and have loved feeling like a 'local'.
  • The Shepherd's Hut is a small but fully functional, cozy place to stay. It is perfectly situated if you are attending the Bach Centre. Sue & Bob could not be more helpful & welcoming. Communication was great, especially with all the uncertainty around the corona virus going on. A delicious breakfast awaited & information of the village & surrounding areas every morning. They were even kind enough to lend me a pair of boots for me to go exploring in! I will definitely be back.

  • Su h a lovely stay in the Shepherd's Hut. Sue and Bob were lovely and put on a fab breakfast. A spot of serenity away from the hubbub

  • Bob and Sue were SUCH lovely hosts. We can’t say enough about the beautiful gardens, amazing breakfast, and cute hut. Would highly recommend!

    Laura2019-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • This “hut” is far better appointed than most shepherds would ever dream of. Space is necessarily limited, but we found it very comfortable, especially in conjunction with the open walled sitting “room” just behind. It is an extremely tranquil location, and the hut is well removed from the owners’ house. It is set within a beautiful wild flower garden, looking directly over a field fringed with woodland. The owners are very hospitable, striking just the right balance between being friendly and leaving guests to their own devices. The homemade breakfasts are exceptional. The shower and the electric heater (we didn’t try the wood burning stove in May) are both good; the bed is very comfortable and there is good quality linen. Be aware that the curtains are rather thin, though the owners helpfully provide eye masks.

  • Sue was awesome! Id recommend her place and this village to anyone. Great breakfast. Amazing location. Her garden is gorgeous.

    Marisa2019-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • The hut and views far exceeded our expectations. The hut is a serene and beautifully compact space - and the log burner in action was amazing. (I'd recommend you don't put too much wood in.) The hospitality was fantastic - Sue and Bob were incredibly welcoming while allowing us to completely enjoy this little slice of heaven as if it were own. My daughter, (aged 6) was blown away by the wildlife - none more so than the live footage of the blue tit chicks being fed by their busy parents.

  • We had an idyllic weekend relaxing in the Shepherds hut. As soon as we arrived we fell in love with the beautiful surroundings and cosy Shepherds hut, which was equipped with everything that we needed. Breakfast was delicious, especially whilst watching the deer skip through the fields opposite. A completly faultless accommodation. Thank you for having us Sue.

  • Totally faultless experience. Best Airbnb we’ve ever experienced. Such a relaxing way to spend a few days in a unique setting. The breakfast each morning is such a fantastic touch. And sitting outside each evening admiring the view was spectacular. Definitely recommend. Thanks so much for having us

  • Staying at Sophie and Nick’s was the perfect weekend escape from London. Nick was extremely welcoming and friendly when we arrived and gave us lots of ideas about what we could do in the local area. It was also a treat to have a swim in their pool! Would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone looking for a cosy, quiet place to stay!

  • This is an exceptionally lovely location. I could not have asked for a better host or acccommodation. Everything was superb.

    Zhi2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely two night stay. Was a great opportunity for some peace and quiet and change of pace from London. Received a lovely tray of snacks and breakfast bits on arrival. Sophie’s husband Nick was great at assisting with any queries we had regarding the heating (the previous guests had turned off the radiators) and using the pool. He was also kind enough to lend us some wellies for a muddy walk around the lake. Comfortable bed, plenty of pans in the kitchen, a dishwasher too, everything nice and clean. A booklet was provided also, with tips on local pubs and things to see. Would definitely stay again, only 90mins drive from London / 20mins from Reading, but nice to get some fresh air in the countryside.

  • A fantastic stay, great location, brilliant hosts, all you could wish.

    David2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was a lovely Airbnb, exactly as described and with very attentive and friendly hosts. The annex is such a cosy space and was ideal for our trip. Access to the pool was such a great extra and we enjoyed exploring the local area. Local amenities are very close and easy such as the public house and the train station with great links to Reading and London. The welcome basket was a great touch also. Thank you to our hosts for a lovely stay. Highly recommend.

People who come to the cottage love it. It is rural but with access to OXFORD and other cities. The accommodation is spacious and the facilities good. We now have totally reliable Wi-Fi so everyone should be happy. The two single beds in the attic are air beds. People have found them comfortable.
Welcome to this spacious yet cosy cottage within the grounds of our family house. There's a large living room and kitchen area with a wood-burning stove which makes for a very comfortable atmosphere. You'll also enjoy a nice double bedroom as well as some loft space for children and teenagers. I now have two comfortable air beds. The loft is carpeted and it has basic furniture but is essentially a camping-style arrangement and would be unsuitable for toddlers. Having said that, young children have slept there recently with no problem. I can provide a travel cot for a baby if necessary. We have recently upgraded the wifi connection and it is now working perfectly. We live in a little village about 20 minutes' drive from Oxford. There is an hourly bus to Oxford from Stadhampton which is about a 20 minutes walk away. There are lots of walks and country pubs around, as well as some nice market towns like Wallingford and Abingdon. We're also very close to the Thames for river walks. If you have any questions or special arrangements, please get in touch and we'll be happy to help. The formal garden is off limits I am always at home at the beginning and end of a guest's stay and always contactable.
The cottage is within the grounds of our house but very private.
  • The most charming, stylish and comfortable place we have stayed. Heaven.

  • We loved our stay here. We wanted something completely different and this hit the bullseye! The boat is really comfortable. Lovely to have the log burner going and the comfort of a nice hot shower, whilst bobbing on the Thames. Esther and Tobie were great hosts, giving us clear instructions on how everything worked. There's some easy walks right in the door step. We saw a heron, deers, ducks and could hear an owl hooting away. A fabulous experience and lovely way to connect with nature. Every bit as fun as we hoped.

    Nick2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This little gem is absolutely somewhere you will want to return too. A lovely spot on the Thames. For us it was one night snuggled down in front of the log burner. A time to reconnect and remember those things that are important in a life. Esther and Tobie are great hosts... I cannot recommend them highly enough 💕

    Sarah2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

    Anna2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful hide away to enjoy some peace. The boat is stylish and well maintained. The wood burner creates a warm and cosy atmosphere, we recommend it as a unique get away.

A light and sunny open-plan lodge, with private deck and lovely views over open fields. Awarded Gold standard from Green Tourism UK. Fully equipped kitchen, TV, wifi, double bed, open-out sofa bed, dining table, shower room and utility room with washing machine.
A 45m2 open plan lodge built using hemp, engineered timber, with green walls, green roof and fitted with triple glazed windows and doors, LED lighting & far infrared heating. The lodge is a separate building within our property with the best views out to open fields. It has an open plan design allowing guests to have a continuous view of the countryside. It has a fully equipped kitchen, double bed and open-out sofa bed, dining table, satellite TV, including Sky movies and sports, and wifi. Outside there's a large decked area for relaxing in the sunshine or cooking on the BBQ. There's a small utility room with a washing machine and ample space to hang coats. The space is very private and guests have their own deck to admire the view and relax and watch the sunsets over sundowners. There's plenty of parking and places to store bikes, or we have bikes available to rent at a nominal charge on request (please let us know if advance) if you aren't able to bring your own. We provide coffee, tea, milk, and sugar and, when we can find them, some eggs from our free-ranging chickens when they are laying. We can arrange for local produce and wine during your stay at an additional cost. The lodge is also equipped with a nesting box with integrated camera so you can secretly watch the nesting and brooding habits of the resident blue tits in the Spring. We have a travel cot available on request at no extra charge. We are only 3 miles from the nearest railway station at Cholsey so can arrange transport from the station on request if you would like a car-free break. We are on a number of on and off-road cycle routes so we are an ideal location if you are either just passing through or wanting to stick around a bit to fully explore the area. If cycling and walking is not your thing, then there are plenty of sites to see within a very short drive by car. The remains of Wallingford Castle which was the first Norman castle to be commissioned by William the Conqueror is only 2 miles away. The historic village of Ewelme with the oldest continually functioning Church school (founded 1437) in England is also 2 miles away. Henley is 15 minutes by car but there's also a regular bus between Henley and Wallingford. We have a range of local maps in the lodge showing all the walking and biking paths in the area, from short walks to full day hikes and trails. We are situated less than a mile from the Ridgeway National Trail which is a 85 mile mostly off road trail across the Chiltern Hills and Berkshire Downs. There is a dense network of bridle ways and footpaths linking historic towns and villages for you to explore. The lodge is close to both Wallingford and Henley with many gastro pubs in between. The area is steeped in history with Bronze Age hill forts, villages with Roman ancestry, Saxon earthworks and Norman castles and churches. There are farmers markets, regattas, music and art festivals, car and steam rallies all happening throughout spring, summer and autumn within a 10 mile radius. Henley Royal Regatta is perhaps the most famous followed by Henley Festival but the likes of the Wallingford Blues and Beer festival presents some interesting niche activities to entertain you. A list of events going on in the area: Wallingford Regatta 6th May 2018 Wallingford Car Rally 13th May 2018 Wallingford Food Festival May 2018 Wallingford Rugfest Music festival June 2018 Henley Royal Regatta 4th - 8th July 2018 Henley Festival July 2018 Rewind Festival Henley August 2018 Wallingford Bunkfest September 2018

  • Having arrived back in the UK after almost 3 months of travelling in Asia the day before Boris announced national lockdown, with no home to go to and unable to stay with family, as part of our emergency exit strategy we had booked the eco lodge for a week with a view if we liked it to stay longer. After a week stranded in the Philippines in an expensive and unhelpful hotel, fighting for everything, what a delight it was to be welcomed so warmly to Tim and Sarah’s slice of idilic rural paradise! The communication was warm, friendly easy and very prompt. The arrival directions clear and concise. The lodge was warm and ready and the easiest to get into. Baring in mind this was (with the restrictions) likely to be our home for a bit the lodge whilst compact was without any doubt the best Airbnb we had stayed at and most certainly the most comprehensively well equipped kitchen we have ever encountered. This lodge just works!! It is warm and cosy, compact but with plenty of space, has a fabulous outdoor space to watch the sun setting over the Oxfordshire countryside. It is peaceful and calm. The ridgeway (heritage bridleway and footpath that if you’re keen enough goes all the way to Stonehenge), is literally on the doorstep. Tim and Sarah live on site and couldn’t be more helpful. If you are looking for a weekend peaceful retreat this is the place for you. If you’re looking for a “home from home” then despite its overuse in some adverts THIS IS IT!!! Well done Tim & Sarah

    Brian2020-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute little lodge. Everything you need is in here, be it kitchen appliances to washing machine to TV... loads of great walks around. Tim and Sarah are lovely.

  • Lovely cosy well-equipped space. Plenty of maps and walk suggestions as well as games and jigsaws for rainy days. Easy to do as a car-free break. Very homey space with everything we could want - thanks for the chocolate and marmalade!

    Claire2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great weekend at the Eco Lodge and Tim was very helpful in every way, even sorting my flat battery when we were leaving. It was a very clean and a welcoming Lodge with all the amenities you would like. The bonus of Sky TV to just make it even better for the weekend football. Tim has some very interesting stories to tell and we were very impressed with the Eco Lodge and how it was constructed. Very warm and cosy... Thanks again Tim, great weekend. we will be back in the Summer for sure.

A beautiful, cosy, dog-friendly house on a peaceful close in a stunning riverside village. This is the perfect place to retreat to, nestled between the natural beauty of the Chilterns one side and the North Wessex Downs the other side. Goring on Thames is a lively little village with stunning walks, amazing pubs & plenty of live music & arts events throughout the year. Don’t hesitate to contact me.
The medium-sized private room is perfect for one or two people. You are welcome to bring your well-behaved dog (although please discuss on booking) and dog sitting is possible through prearrangement at extra cost. We have a cockapoo who loves everyone and every thing. You’ll be sharing the house with me and my husband but we’ll do our best to be discreet. Breakfast will be basic (tea/coffee, toast, spreads and limited cereal selection) and self-serve but I’ll be on hand for anything. Tea making facilities are not available in the bedroom but you are welcome to use the kitchen for making tea. Check-in is after 5pm and check-out is before 9am, however, if you have a particular request we will do our best to accommodate you. Please ask when you contact me.
Goring on Thames is one of the prettiest villages on the Thames. It is set nestled in stunning countryside and there are beautiful walks/cycle rides straight from the door step, taking you along the river, through nature reserves, over hills or into woods. The oldest road in Britain, the ridgeway trail, passes straight through the village (end of our road!) and this takes you over hills and through valleys and woods. Although Goring has enough to offer so you may not even feel the need to get in your car there is also so much other stuff within easy reach. The City of Dreaming Spires, Oxford, is only 40 mins away (car or train (direct line, station walking distance)). It’s also only 25 minute drive to Harwell Oxford, Chilton, so if you’re looking for a mid-week retreat after a hard working day this will be perfect!
  • Very convenient for Goring facilities. Friendly owners.

I can not fault her! Fantastic location, with only a ten min walk to the top of Whitchurch where you can really have a good ramble through the Chilterns. Fantastic place, and will be returning one day. 😊

Self-contained annexe with a bright, first floor studio bedroom/living room and a kitchen and shower room below. The Loft Room has its own entrance and off-road parking. Situated in the heart of the beautiful Berkshire countryside with fantastic walks and a great local pub, but only ten minutes drive from J12 of the M4 and 25 minutes from Paddington by train. Pangbourne village is three miles away with a host of amenities. Would suit short-stay visitors or weekly commuters on a longer term let.

There is a king-sized bed and sofa-bed upstairs, together with a dining table with two chairs. The downstairs kitchen and bathroom are both well equipped and have underfloor heating.

Nestled away in my garden in the pretty village of Goring-on-thames is my cosy caravan. My garden is very peaceful and very private. . Its a quiet village with a train station and a few shops. The caravan is in a private garden it has a double bed, fridge, heating, complimentry tea and coffee and kettle and seating area. We do have a small dog and cats so animal lovers only please. The bathroom is shared and is a very short walk from the caravan.
ideally a stay would be on a b and b basis with check in on a weekday after 5pm and at weekends other times may be arranged. Contractors working in or around the village may find this ideal as it's such good value. Breakfast is a choice of cereals, toast, eggs, yogurt or porridge, on a help yourself basis, with fresh fruit always available ( included in price) .Access to the bathroom is restricted during weekdays due to our dog so guests would idealy shower or bath at the latest 9am, although guests would be welcome to stay in the caravan all morning. In special circumstances arrangements can be made to use the bathroom later than 9,best to ask on booking. Guests may use the kitchen but i like to keep my living room private. There is a parking space and bikes can be left in the garden and covered over if necessary. Goring does have a bus service for the local area and the train station is a ten minute walk. If you need help with getting around I would help if I can . This is a quiet space and we dont allow loud music, please bear in mind this is a caravan in a pretty secluded garden an upmarket camping experience in a way!
Goring is a very pretty village in the heart of South Oxfordshire by the river Thames. There is lots of scenic walks and it's popular with ramblers and cyclists. It has a few shops and a choice of restaurants to suit all. It is also popular with George Michael fans as he used to live in the village.
  • Great Value, lovely little space. Note toilet is in the house so you have to venture to Kathleen's for the bathroom but that was never a problem. V Hospitable, even couple of cans of cider in the fridge and breakfast fruit, yogurt and cereal provided for the money.

  • Self check- in was a breeze, parking no problem. Although the space is compact, it's designed quite cleverly so you don't feel cramped. Super comfy bed, great shower. The slippers at the front door is a nice touch. The kitchen area even has (the smallest I've ever seen!) a dishwasher! Lovely outdoor area which would probably be great in summer. Thank you for the lovely one-night stay.

  • Zoë and Andy’s annexe is the perfect place to stay in Didcot. The place is really stylishly decorated and has everything you need. I even had the bonus of having sky sports to watch the football when I arrived on Saturday evening. Zoë and Andy were really great communicators and even helped iron my shirt for the wedding I attended in Oxfordshire. I would definitely recommend. 5 stars!

  • I loved my stay at the annexe. After a couple days of 'not so nice' places, this adorable, freshly renovated, super clean guest house was truly a breath of fresh air. I felt at home the moment I walked in and loved the thoughtful touches (Spa slippers! A makeup mirror/dressing table!) Such a well designed space and the bed was also super comfy. I hope to stay again when I return to Didcot. Thank you for a great stay!

Hi welcome to my bright, fun little house that’s also my home. I’m often away with work so will frequently welcome my guests with a key and my trusty black and white (furry) best friend - the cat! The house has a homely feel and is based on all my travels and adventures. Make yourself at home. I co host so one of us will also be available to answer a question even if we are away.
Hi 1.2 miles from train station Close to Tesco’s express and takeaway round the corner. House backs onto a close that leads to large expanse of fields and recreational playing fields. Located in a quiet, safe yet central part of Didcot.
  • Zoe's keeps is a beautiful home, that i will most deffinately be returning to when work finds me in the vacinity again! Upon arrival we were met by the head of the household... Jack the cat! A gorgeous, friendly little fella :) We really couldn't have hope for a nicer place to stay. Thanks for having us!

A unique opportunity to stay in Brunel's Station Master's House, dating from 1840. Located within easy access of the village centre and a stones throw away from Goring station. The spectacular scenery is the setting for such classic books as Wind in the Willows, Watership Down and Three Men in a Boat. Views of Goring Lock, the weirs and the rural landscape, are some of the most photographed and painted scenes in England. Goring has a good selection of local shops, restaurants and pubs!
A hardwood door leads into an entrance lobby with staircase and doors into the reception rooms, including a front aspect sitting room, with an open fire, and an additional front aspect snug with a wood burner. The snug leads through to the kitchen/diner, fitted with a seven burner gas range, Belfast sink, and an understairs storage cupboard. The dining area has a decorative fireplace with cast iron surround, and a door to the rear. To complete the accommodation there is a conservatory accessed from the kitchen. A staircase leads to the first floor landing, with exposed floorboards throughout. There is a family bathroom fitted with a bath with shower over, and an additional separate cloakroom.
  • Paul, Chloe and Indie are delightful and attentive to your needs. The house is in a great location for travel, eating out and beautiful country walks. It’s cosy and homely at the Station Master’s house.

  • We stayed at Karen's place for two nights and had one of our best stays so far. Karen is a wonderful host, flexible for check in, gave us lots of local advices and made all you'd need for a cosy and relaxed stay all ready and with lots of personal touches. We both love to talk and have a chance to know our hosts as we believe this is one main part of our trips, and we had great and talks we Karen and her friendly sons. The room was clean and warm, super cosy ( Thanks for a very comfy beddings, was hard to get out in the mornings! ). The farmhouse location is great for walking either up the hills or by the river Thames, and in a very short walk from the station. Goring and Streatly both are little villages, with cosy pubs and beautiful landscape. I would definitely recommend and would love to go back.

  • We had such a warm and comfortable experience at Karen’s place! We felt home as soon as we stepped in. Her cottage is wonderfully decorated, the shower so inviting, the bed so comfortable and the kitchen facing the fireplace was just what we were looking for our countryside winter break. A budget stay, comfortable and clean, in a bright sunny room. The location is quiet, out of town, near bus stop. On the doorstep are the Kennet Meadows and River Kennet and Canal. Local shops are a ten minute walk away. Space for cycle parking available. On street parking for cars. I have previously had male guests stay, however only hosts females now.
This is a sunny south facing house, with a small garden you are welcome to use, it isn't overlooked. I am due to upgrade the decor especially in the kitchen and bathroom, but everything works.
The area is on the edge of the Kennet Meadows which leads to the River Kennet and Southcote Mill. We are a few minutes cycle ride from Cycle Route NCN 4, which goes to Theale, Newbury and beyond and to Reading Town Centre and Green Park and on to London in the other direction.
  • Excellent place and friendly person. Good location and have a small store to buy food, for example so close ( 5 min walking). The bus stop is very close too. Anyway, the best place in my travel.

About a 25 min walk to closest supermarket, but other than that, the bus stop is close and only about 15 min to city center and train station. Sam is a wonderful host. Very hospitable, and does everything she can to make sure you are comfortable. I have no complaints. I had everything I needed. I recommend.

  • Beautiful part of a country cottage, quiet location, warm and cosy, good sized bedroom with lofty ceiling, softish mattress, bath and plenty of hot water ( no shower but that suited us), downstairs good lounge with small dining chair and tables for breakfast ( supplies included with fridge and microwave ) not a proper kitchen but hosts happy to wash up for us. A few low doorways as expected in a property this age. Lounge has electric fire effect heater in inglenook which was lovely after a walk in the surrounding countryside. Local pub excellent and less than 5 minutes walk. All clean and tidy and very friendly hosts.

  • Walnut Tree Cottage is a lovely period cottage in a small village within easy reach of local towns and walks. It is very warm and cosy with a comfortable sitting area downstairs and a large bedroom and bathroom up some very tight winding stairs. It is really a charming and characterful place to stay. James and Gilly are perfect hosts providing plenty of information if required. There is a fridge, toaster and microwave and plenty of breakfast goods are provided and restocked if needed. Thank you for everything - we will definitely return when in the area.
