Welcome to Vandbakkegaarden’s Retro House. Here you will find nature, peace and plenty of cosiness in authentic surroundings. The house is the original cottage built around 1930, while we live in a newer house on the property. The house is so cosy, it deserves to be lived in and cared for, and you – our guests, contribute to that. Besides we do like offering our guests a different type of holiday and on a budget. Time does not stand still in the Retro House as its theme develops along the way.

Small, nice 54m2 summer house surrounded by trees which protect the terraces from the wind and provide private life. It is situated on a small peninsula. Beaches both to the east and the west can be reached within 5 minutes. At the end of the garden, while you relax on the terrace or sit by the window, you might be able to see both deers, rabbits, squirrels and the birds of the forest. When the weather is quiet walk to the tip of Jelseodde, perhaps you see seals sunbathing in the sand.
“My friend and I visited this lovely little house for an academic writing retreat. It was the perfect spot for it! It was so comfortable and perfectly quiet. Far enough away from shops and other distractions, but close enough to the fjord to go for mind-clearing walks. We worked all day from the cottage and walked around the peninsula at lunch, watched sunsets over the fjord, and built fired and played yahtzee in the evenings (there are boardgames in the house!). Charlotte and Svenning left us a welcome present and enough basics in the kitchen to make us perfectly at home. So if you're looking for a writing retreat or digital detox spot, this is the perfect place!”

The location is quiet and rural which is exactly what we were looking for. We would highly recommend staying here if you are looking to get away from the chaos of usual life. Communication was perfect and the house had everything we needed. Charlotte is an excellent host and all the animals on her property are the sweetest.”
