Places to stay in Southwold
Quiet & relaxing, perfectly positioned for exploring the Heritage coast (and with an eclectic book collection!) "The cottage has been everything we could possibly have wanted in a holiday retreat - warm, comfortable, divinely pretty and romantic!"
Welcome to Mill End From May to the end of August our aim is to let weekly Friday to Friday, short breaks will be considered at short notice if we have no weekly bookings. From September to the end of April any booking will be welcomed subject to our minimum of three nights. Please note we have seasonal pricing so make sure you have entered the dates you want to stay to get the right cost Recently refurbished, with new kitchen and new double glazed windows. Upstairs is the large, light, south facing bedroom with king size bed, armchairs and a coffee table. There is a TV with DVD player and a selection of DVDs. The bathroom is adjacent with a bath and a shower. Downstairs is the newly fully fitted kitchen/living/dining room with TV. It is a small room but sunny in summer and cosy in winter. There is a sofa bed for the occasional guest(s). (£15 for linen or bring your own) The kitchen has an oven, microwave and a 4 ring hob with cover which acts as a splashback when open. There is also a larder fridge, a freezer, a toaster and, of course, a kettle. There is a downstairs WC. The cottage has oil fired central heating. Immediately outside is a south facing terrace with a large table and an electric awning. If you have friends/family in the area you can entertain up to 10. The awning can act as a sunshade or an umbrella so even if it is drizzling it is still possible to be outside. It's an extra room! There is parking for one car. You have an exclusive private garden area - south-west facing, with a table and chairs and 2 "rocking loungers" ideal for relaxing and sunbathing - see picture. The whole garden, of which this is part, is designed mainly for wildlife - shrubs, trees and many scented hip bearing roses.
The Suffolk coast has many attractions. We have wonderful sunrises as well as sunsets in our garden. We have good bird and wild life. We are 3 miles inland from Walberswick and Southwold and close to Dunwich and Minsmere with many good walks. As well as the White Hart in Blythburgh, which has wonderful views over the estuary, there are excellent places to eat in the surrounding villages (The Anchor at Walberswick and Mains at Yoxford are in the good food guide). The nearby cafe at Darsham Nurseries has had very good reviews for unusual dishes. There are a number of farmer's markets and shops close by. Blythburgh is famous for its large and beautiful church, known as "the Cathedral of the Marshes". Concerts are held here as well as at Snape Maltings (25mins drive) during the Aldeburgh Festival and at other times of the year. The Latitude Festival (mid July) takes place about a mile from the village.
  • Delightful property . Comfortable and great location. Excellent recommendations for eating out from the hosts.

  • Lovely cosy cottage, everything we needed was provided. A warm welcome from Roderick and Claire as well. Comfortable bed and hot showers were much needed after a days walking. Was perfect for our short break in Suffolk. Their local knowledge came in very useful for amazing evening meals. Check the garden out, something different around every corner,a real work of art.

  • Roderick gave very quick response to our questions reference bringing a dog which may not be to apparent on the web site . The property is easy to find and its position on the suffolk coast is ideal for striking out to many of the coast towns. The property is ideal for two people , warm and very homely with all the facilities you could wish for . The owners live in the same building and are very helpful as you would expect.

This pretty holiday cottage is 3 minutes walk from a stunning swimming beach and in the heart of well known seaside favourite, Walberswick. Steps from a Gastro pub and a lovely village green with playground, shops and cafe. Perfect for romantic getaways & family holidays.
Spacious downstairs living room /kitchen with fully equipped kitchen and all mod cons. Great for dining and playing family games. The cosy sitting room features a log fire, perfect to snuggle down in winter. In summer the kitchen opens up to a garden with seating for 4 people , a beautiful spot to catch the sun's rays and read the weekly newspapers. The bathroom is located on the ground floor and the two bedrooms on the first floor. Both bedrooms feature convenient basins ,
This is the most wonderful traditional quiet seaside village with everything you ever need minutes away. The Tuck Shop is three minutes which has everything you need from washing powder to ice creams. The village green hosts a number of shops and a cafe serving delicious lunch and teas. If you walk 5 minutes from the cottage, you reach the river which can be crossed by traditional hand rowed ferry and then a lovely walk to the quaint town of Southwold. Or take the Kissing Bridge to cross over further down the river. There are some fantastic walks to Dunwich, Blytheburgh , across marshes filled with stunning birds. It's an bird watching and hiking paradise. Walberswick is famous for its crabbing. The National Crabbing Championships used to be held here until it became too popular. Children of all ages delight in catching crabs using a simple line, weight and some bacon. Of course we put them back after catching. The Shepherd's best haul has been over 100 in one sitting but we have had years of practice. And at the end of the day, The Anchor pub or The Bell Inn (both within a stones throw) offer hearty organic meals, great Adnams ales and wines or a yummy locally caught fish and chips.
  • The cottage was lovely and cosy with heaters as well as a log fire. The location was excellent within walking distance of all amenities and with two excellent pubs on the doorstep. Would thoroughly recommend.

    Helen2020-03-09T00:00:00Z

The sandy beach is adorned with a string of colourful beach huts that lead along to Southwold Pier at one end and towards Southwold Harbour at the other end. Southwold boasts several excellent pubs and restaurants as well as a range of independent shops and galleries. There is a pretty walk through the harbour and over a footbridge to the picture-postcard village of Walberswick, home to two good pubs (The Anchor and The Bell) and a long sandy beach. Fresh fish can be bought from the fish huts along the harbour. Southwold is home to the Adnams Brewery and the Town’s excellent pubs, including one of our personal favourites, The Lord Nelson – where you can try a range of Adnams bitters.
  • Our family of 4 stayed in this house in Southwold in late July. It is a great size and setup for 2 kids and 2 adults, very close to the beach and a short walk to the shops and pubs in town. Parking on the street isn't too tricky. Our kids liked sharing a room with a view of the lighthouse, and the adults appreciated the v short walk to the beach with all our gear. Southwold is a great little town for its easy beach, warm pubs with great beer and interesting pier. Note, this listing is managed by a property/holidays company rather than an individual. There's nothing wrong with that and found process fine, just saying as we didn't interact with owner.

    Peter2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time in southwold, the house could not have been nicer or in a better location. We loved the decor and the sea view, all in all a great stay in a lovely place!

Plenty of spare bedding and towels too. Just remember to mind your head on the doorways! We accidentally hit our heads a couple of times but soon learnt.

  • We had a great stay. The apartment is in a fantastic location near the beach and amenities. It has everything you need and is very comfortable. It was extremely clean and tidy. We would certainly recommend it and would go again. Jac and John

  • The flat was spotlessly clean and included everything one could possibly need. Laura’s communication was timely and friendly and the flat is in a great location. The only downside was the noise from the flat above, with people on the move late at night.

    Sally2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fab little find and perfect location for exploring Southwold. Couldn’t fault the apartment and the equipment available. The hamper was a lovely touch. The bed and bedding was so comfy. As others have written the noise from the apartment above is an issue from them walking around, to hearing their tv and conversations! But obviously this is out of Laura’s control.

  • Lovely stay - would highly recommend.

    Alexandra2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic modern flat ideal and well equipped for families. Beautifully clean and in a great location. If you are thinking of booking you wont be disappointed.

    Gemma2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous ground floor apartment with cute little courtyard space at the back, which unfortunately was too chilly to use in February! Great, convenient location to stroll into town for the many shops, restaurants, pubs etc and also for the pier, beach and promenade. Had the most amazing fish & chips fried in beef dripping for our tea. Easy and convenient parking right outside the front door. Very comfy beds with luxurious bedding and towels with the added treat of complimentary top notch soap/shower gel. A very comfortable and tastefully decorated property. Though the welcome hamper was a nice idea we thought the items chosen could've been a little more useful i.e pint of milk, loaf of bread and spread. The only not so good point with this being an older house divided into upper and lower units was the constant awareness of the other guests walking around overhead and the sound of their bath/shower. Obviously totally unimportant during the day but slightly off putting late at night. Thanks for a lovely stay and being a fantastic host.

    steph2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • The flat is in a perfect location for the beach & pier and getting into the town. Beautifully clean & presented. Excellent response from hosts when messaged. Only slight issue would be if you are very sensitive to noise, as you can hear the people in the flat above. Otherwise a lovely place to stay and enjoy Southwold.

East Street Loft is moments from the beach. The sea can be glimpsed from the bedroom window. Ideal for a couple seeking some rest and relaxation together, the apartment has a sunny roof terrace, ideal for an early evening drink. Fitted to a high standard and attractively decorated, with modern newly fitted bathroom and a king size brass bed, this is for those who enjoy hotels but want privacy and space.
Hotels are lovely, but sometimes complete privacy is even better. East Street Loft provides an ideal space in which to be alone together in comfort, with the pleasures of Southwold a step away.
  • Amazing location right near all the best local places, couldn’t ask for a better place in southwold

  • Great flat in wonderful location

    Jeanette2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely two night pre Christmas stay in this fab flat in the heart of Southwold. We stay in Southwold a couple of times a year, but this was our first stay here. Lovely flat, larger than we thought, with all the amenities you could want. Thoughtful touches like milk and a bottle of prosecco were much appreciated. Really comfy bed too! Very short walk to the seafront, and opposite the best fish and chip shop in Southwold. Communication was easy, as was arrival. Pull up outside to drop off luggage, and then we parked on the sea front not too far away. We will be back. Thanks Penny.

    Jane2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic place to stay. We stay at southwold 3 or 4 times a year and visited a dozen properties.........this is the best place for a couple to stay. Totally recommend 👍

  • Penny's appartment really is a romantic place to stay. Superb location and beautifully appointed. We loved it!

    Ann2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Penny’s flat is a perfect place to stay for a weekend in Southwold. We had a little trouble finding it as Google directed us to the wrong location (we arrived late, it was dark and we were tired!) but once we were in we were pleasantly surprised. Especially as Penny had left us a bottle of fizz (thank you!) The flat is clean, comfortable and cosy. It felt a little chilly when we arrived but the heating is excellent and warms the place up in no time. The beds are comfy and considering the place is on the main street it was quiet. There is no permanent parking on the street outside but as we arrived late we were able to leave the car overnight then move it before the 8am restriction. There is a free car park a couple of minutes walk away. The location of the flat is perfect. A stone’s throw away from the beautiful beach and right on the main street. If you are looking for a weekend escape I would highly recommend Penny’s place.

    Alison2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic flat in a fabulous place, close to shops and a beautiful beach.

    Jeanette2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Penny’s flat is a beautiful and brilliantly located gem in the middle of Southwold. Whilst it feels cosy because it’s quiet and a step back from the high street, the flat is actually a lot bigger than we anticipated. The bed is big and comfortable and it was nice to be able to have a soak in a bathtub at the end of a busy day exploring. Penny was easy to communicate with and our check in experience was nice and straight forward. We would love to come and stay again and would recommend the flat to all.

The Old Lamp Room used to store the lamps for the lighthouse until it became automatic. It is now an annexe to the old Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage, which is our family home. Guests have their own front door and are free to use the small front courtyard garden which has a bistro table and chairs. Situated up a small path, behind the lighthouse and moments from the beach. The high street with its shops, restaurants and pubs is a 5 minute stroll away. An ideal cosy bolt hole.
There is a kitchenette with table and chairs and a shower room. The kingsize bed is on a mezzanine level, accessed by a staircase. Please note that the head height of the mezzanine is restricted. An ideal small and quirky bolt hole for those looking to eat most of their meals out, but with space to prepare breakfast and cold meals, or even chill a bottle of wine.!
  • Ideal location situated right in the centre of Southwold but tucked down a quiet allyway. The description is accurate, it is small, although the bathroom is quite luxurious. The bed was very comfortable, just mind your head on the low ceiling. Laura was very helpful as we arrived early. We had fresh bread, butter and a pint of milk waiting for us on arrival, a nice touch. We didn't get to meet in person as accommodation had it's own entrance and was very private. Will certainly look to use it again.

    Stanley2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • well positioned little get-away for two, perfect for exploring southwold, and right next to the pub!

    Kane2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous time and the 'mouse house', as it came to be known by us over the weekend, was lovely: small but perfectly and thoughtfully formed. We will be back!

  • The Old Lamp Room is a lovely quirky place to stay. Very clean and comfortable in a great location. The rainfall shower is fantastic.

  • Fab little place. Great location. Just enough room to put your stuff but swinging cats not recommended.

  • A great spot in the centre of everything. You do need to keep yourself busy as it’s compact but very clean and modern.

  • I and my dog enjoyed our stay! The location is great, right in the heart of Southwold by the lighthouse, yards from the beach, a short walk to the high street, also right by the church and the Adnams brewery - the smell of malt & hops as I got out of the car took me right back to my childhood! The Old Lamp Room is a sweet little place, it is very small but really cleverly designed, private and well equipped. Very warm in the chilly February winds. Lovely shower. All spotlessly clean. Laura is a great host who responds quickly and provided thoughtful touches such as flowers, fresh milk and dog treats. I’d definitely stay again

    Anna2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Clever 'tiny house' in a fantastic location just 2 minutes from the beach and Southwold shops. Great base from which to explore the area, walking, shopping, lots of places nearby to eat and drink. The kitchen area is perfect for breakfast and snacks with a fridge to keep wine and treats from the local deli. Modern clean and comfy with thoughtful touches provided. Romantic weekend hideaway :-)

'The Wheelhouse' is a small self contained chalet in the garden of the main property. It is only 100 metres from the beach and 350 metres from the Town Centre. There is on-road parking without restrictions. There is a toilet & basin with heated towel rail, but no bathroom/shower. Arrangements can be made for the use of a shower if required. Having spent time in 'The Wheelhouse' myself, this didn't present a problem. I am open to discussion for pets to stay, just contact me before booking.
The Wheelhouse has a nautical theme. Pets are allowed subject to a couple of requirements. The attic space has been loved by every visiting child, but I too have slept up there many times
There is so much to do within walking distance of the property, transport is not necessarily required. Southwold has a shuttle bus. There are many places to eat in the Town, all within 350m and plenty of activities all within a 20 minute walk:- An 18 hole Golf Course, Sailing Club, Fishing which includes, Beach, River and Boat, also Freshwater Lakes 1 mile away. River cruises, Power boat Sea blasts, Surf school, Walking and Cycling - Cycle hire is available in the Town.

  • A gorgeous place that successfully combines contemporary and cosy. It is flooded with light in all weathers. The setting is serene when the sun comes out and dramatic in the wintry weather (when we stayed). Fantastically comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen. The only negative was the outside utility room and having to brave the wind and rain just to fetch a dustpan and brush!

This traditional 1880 fisherman's dog friendly cottage has many original features such as wooden flooring, Suffolk doors/locks, pantry and 'cottage' stairs - steep but there is a handrail. It also has central heating/unlimited WiFi. There are great views of the working lighthouse from both upstairs and downstairs of the cottage, which is minutes away from the sea and individual shops. Southwold also has art galleries, two fish and chips shops, bakeries & cafes plus a pier and a working harbour.
The cottage has a comfortable lounge and kitchen diner. Upstairs there is a 'small double' bed with a recently new mattress, shower room and upstairs sitting room with great views of the working lighthouse and a small court yard. Southwold has its own brewery and many pubs and restaurants serving great food and that local brew! There is a opportunity for free parking directly outside the cottage but which cannot be guaranteed. If there is no parking directly outside on arrival most people will double park to off load luggage etc and then go find a free parking space nearby. All parking around the cottage/block is free and has no time limit so you could, if wanted, leave the car there for your entire stay or park outside the cottage if and when a space becomes available.
The busy working harbour with its fish restaurants serving locally caught fish is a great destination to walk to from the cottage taking just 30/40 minutes. The Coastal Voyager offers thrilling high speed 'sea blasts' from this harbour. There is also fishing opportunities from both pier and beach. Nearby places of interest include Walberswick, Alderburgh and Thorpe Ness. Dunwich Heath is nearby for bird watching.
  • A quirky bolt hole away from a busy world! The cottage was well equipped and in an excellent central location. Lovely to be able to walk the dogs on the beach, minutes away.

  • It's lovely, quirky little cottage in the heart of town, and just a minutes walk from the beach. Love the view of the Sole Bay Inn (what a pub that is) and the lighthouse from the upstairs sitting room. The cottage is very old fashioned with very low ceiling but I didn't head my head once despite being 6' 4"!! Janet is really nice and very helpful and I would definitely recommend this a place to stay in what is one of my most favourite places in the world, Southwold :)

Osprey is a beautifully presented first and second floor apartment within one of Southwold's stunning Victorian townhouses. Standing in a prime position in the heart of Southwold with views of the sea and lighthouse, it is within easy walking distance of the High Street shops and a minutes walk to the sea front. This is vintage chic at its best, offering groups of friends and families a stylish retreat!
What our guests say: "A brilliant place to spend a perfect New Year break... it's a great spot if you want to see the fireworks on New Years Eve and to visit the beach. Perfect property, perfect location, perfect time!"
This self catering holiday cottage in Southwold is located in a terrace of houses, a short walk from the town's popular shops, cafes and delis. The sandy beach at Southwold is adorned with a string of colourful beach huts that lead along to Southwold Pier at one end and towards Southwold Harbour at the other end the town boasts several excellent pubs and restaurants as well as a range of independent shops and galleries. There is a pretty walk through the harbour and over a footbridge to the picture-postcard village of Walberswick, home to two good pubs (The Anchor and The Bell) and a long sandy beach. Fresh fish can be bought from the fish huts along the harbour. Southwold is home to the Adnams Brewery and the town's excellent pubs include one of our personal favourites, The Lord Nelson where you can try a range of Adnams bitters.

  • It is a great apartment very close to the lighthouse. We enjoyed the well stocked kitchen, big bath and beers. We didn't have access to the bunk beds room but maybe could have contacted the host to ask for access. The showers were big and well powered but this sink upstairs by the bedrooms was a bit small for washing your face. We very much enjoyed our stay!

  • Clean and tidy apartment and well located in a lovely village, just a fairly short walk/ ferry ride away from Southwold too. Lovely generous breakfast food left too, which was a really pleasant surprise. Only issue is that the second bedroom (with the bunk beds) gets quite a bit of noise from the flat above. Fine if you're a good sleeper and the people upstairs are quiet, but our lot were very early risers and fairly noisy!

    Jennifer2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great value for money and also great location. Perfect for a family of 5. Very much recommend for families as perfect size for 5.

    Ian2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Only wanted the one night so this suited us perfectly. Our host left a lovely selection of things for breakfast including yoghurts and orange juice plus the usual tea, coffee, milk and bread. The space is roomy so the children were able to spread out and play and were kept amused with the various games and toys that had been thoughtfully left in the apartment. Only 2 things to bear in mind - the water system is a bit noisy if you are a very light sleeper and, if you book all of downstairs, the occupants of one bedroom need to go through the other to get to the kitchen. This didn’t bother us at all but worth a little mention. We had a great stay. Thank you.

Southwold South Green Area – Properties here enjoy one of the best locations in town. From many of them you can look across South Green towards Gun Hill and the sea and the properties are within minutes of the market place, with the elegant Swan Hotel, an excellent range of small shops including a greengrocers with fresh local produce, family butcher and delicatessen. The popular Red Lion Inn overlooking South Green is even closer. Secluded and peaceful, Southwold Denes is an ideal retreat for walkers and nature enthusiasts. The town of 'Southwold' on the East coast of England is the Jewel in the crown of East Suffolk seaside resorts. It is a tranquil place, a peaceful haven, holding its own elaborate history. The popular common area was donated to the town by Thomas Godyll in 1509, and was in itself a monumental act, and it has been preserved through the years. Today it is one of the most widely used areas, and is home to the golf, football, and rugby clubs. Southwold was incorporated in a charter of Henry VII in 1489, and is an ancient town that remains remarkably un spoilt. In 1659 a devastating fire destroyed much of the borough, with the resultant rebuilding work creating the distinctive Southwold 'Greens' as fire breaks in case such a disaster should reoccur. Beneath these greens it is believed that some of the ruins of the properties destroyed in the fire may still be found. Southwold has a superb award winning beach, and one of the country's most famous piers. The pier built in 1900, was devastated by a severe gale in 1934 when the force of the storm destroyed the head of the pier. The pier was further damaged during the second world war, and for many years was a shadow of its former glory. Following a major refurbishment by its present owner, the pier has seen enormous visitor numbers and has served to reverse the former declining interest in coastal piers. It represents one of the many highlights of the town. As we stand on the beach beside the famous beach huts and the pier looking out across the North Sea we are reminded of one of the most famous sea battles to be fought off of our coast. The battle of 'Solebay' was fought in 1672, it was a monumental struggle. The English and French fleets clashed with the Dutch just off shore. Within the English and French fleets there were a combined total of 71 warships with the Dutch totaling 61 vessels. The total number of men involved in this battle is said to have been 50,000. The brother of Charles II, James Duke of York was the admiral of the English fleet, and took up residence in Sutherland House. There still remains links to the Dutch within the town, possibly one of the finest examples is to be found at the museum in Bartholomew Green, which is a grade II listed building with Dutch gables. On Gun Hill, (again overlooking the sea) you could not fail to be impressed by the eighteen pound cannons. It is said these guns were given to the town in 1746 by the Royal Armouries, as a protection to shipping against raids. The last known firing was in 1842 to celebrate the Prince of Wales birthday. Tragically whilst re-loading one of the cannons, a man was killed by an explosion. Southwold (like many towns) was bombed in the 1914-18 war. The German army considered that Southwold might be a 'fortified place' because of the Cannons on Gun Hill. The cannons were subsequently buried during this period. In the second world war the guns were concealed. Southwold has three dominant landmarks, when approaching from inland, the huge water tower is the first of these visible, others being the tower of the parish church of St. Edmund's, and the magnificent whitewashed lighthouse. The first water tower built in 1896 was replaced in 1937 by a 150,000 gallon building. The parish church of St. Edmund's (1460) was established on the site of a far older church dating from 1200. The lighthouse which commenced operation in 1890 is located near East Green. It replaced the original wooden structure at Gun Hill. This present 101 foot high tower was originally illuminated by paraffin, being converted to electricity in 1938. This superb building is one of the most photographed shoots in the town, being visible from many locations. Southwold has an array of fine pubs, restaurants, and tea rooms. The famous Adnams brewery also forms part of the towns history. Adnams has recently opened a brand new 'cellar and kitchen' wine store, on the site of their old distribution centre. Beer is still brewed in Southwold today, and has been brewed for more than 300 years. Southwold has an exquisite harbour, and is a delight to visit. It was once a very busy fishing port, and it is recorded in the doomsday book, that Southwold was a prosperous fishing port in the 11th Century. There are still a variety of inshore fishing vessels operating from the harbour, with fresh fish regularly on sale along the Blackshore area. There are regular ferry and river trips available. The Harbour Inn is quite renowned, and serves excellent food. Harbour Marine Services, along the shore offers a comprehensive Service to all vessel owners. At the Harbour entrance you will find the Royal National Lifeboat Station, again with its own history of rescue from the sea. The spectacular views are a magnet for artists.

  • This cottage is excellently located for the beach, pier and town, just around the corner from The Little Fish and Chip Shop and The Lord Nelson pub, and beneath the strobes of the stunning lighthouse, so you can’t get lost. Parking was easy, we always found a space. Everything was very clean and well looked after. My son loved the bunk beds and was elated to find the toy boxes. We even found beach toys. We ate in a fair bit and the kitchen had everything we needed and great appliances. The shower and bath are great and there’s lots of storage. The whole cottage has a really nice vibe. I can see the hosts have put lots of thought into the place. Lovely stay for us.

You also have the famous Blyth Estuary which is just steps away from the property and is a pure haven for bird watchers and nature lovers. Deep enough in the woodlands to be the perfect retreat where you can relax in the fascinating countryside of Walberswick.
  • Really enjoyed our experience at this very unique property. Hope to visit again!

  • What an unforgettable experience at Paolo's cottage in the woods. Perfect winter break at this last minute gem of a find. Faultless communication throughout the whole process, from booking to check in and check out. The cottage itself is beautiful and if possible even more stunning in real life. It was everything we expected and more. Thank you so much for being so accommodating, for the information and tips beforehand and all the little touches that just put us at ease straight away. We really can't wait to return over the summer. Thank you again!

  • Perfect rustic, country get away.

    Gareth2019-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most wonderful two days at the cottage in the woods. The location is amazing and so isolated. The kids loved exploring the woods, swinging in the tree swing and soaking in the hot tub. A real gem.

    Lindsay2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Four of us stayed in the cottage over a long weekend and had a wonderful and relaxing time. The cottage is in a secluded glade down a track in a nature reserve far from the main road and other houses - perfect for getting away from it all. The house itself is charming, well-appointed and rustic. The hot tub was a nice touch and we got a lot of use of it. The host was responsive and check in and check out were very smooth. By way of local amenities, the popular seaside village of Walberswick is a 45-minute walk away, with two great pubs and long stretch of beach. We hope to visit again soon.

  • The cottage is located in a beautiful and secluded area, very calm and you may have a feathery visitor or two to the garden from the local pheasant farm. We felt at home in the cottage, making log fires and playing with boardgames that are supplied.

    Natalie2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Take a trip back in time and escape the modern world. This cottage is fantastic at making you slow down and appreciate the beauty of nature. Nestled in a forest, you are surrounded by wildlife. Lighting a fire to heat water to wash with and having fun with the firepit and bbq gives you an amazing insight into life in the 1800s. Thank goodness for firelighters and comfy beds though!

  • Had a wonderful weekend in this lovely place with open views of fields and the sea. Spent much time watching the open skies and walking on the beach. Very close to Southwold walking or by bike. Lots of lovely fresh fish and home baked bread available locally. Great welcome from hosts who left wine and crisps on arrival and everything very sparkling and clean with everything you need. I highly recommend the property.

  • The Watch Room makes absolutely the best out of its perfect location with stunning views, convenience for the town in Southwold, and for getting away from it all with great walks up to Benacre and down to Dunwich. The accommodation itself cannot be faulted. Everything you’d need to stay comfortable and cosy ...and ...well ...pretty much hypnotised by the ever changing skies and seas. Had a great time.

Fab Cottage, Sea Views from both front bedrooms and with off road parking for one car for school holiday time bookings! Three full size double bedrooms so easily sleeps 6. There is also an additional sofa bed for another 2 guests as well! Views to the Lighthouse and pier too and all this just a minutes from the beach and cafes. Ten minutes walk to the bustle of the town centre with every amenity. Lovely new refurbishment, it fits the bill for a relaxed and quiet cottage stay.
The open plan kitchen makes for easy family living and the light and airy location has a bright area in the house in which to sit all day long. A Downstairs bathroom is a flexible facility for all, it has a full shower too! Pets welcome, they love to roam free in both the secure front and back gardens too! We add just a small charge for the extra housekeeping. Also Washer/dryer to process those beach clothes!
Southwold, a jewel on the Suffolk coast, is still one of the most family friendly towns. We have lovely long sandy beaches right down the steps from the town, three delightful beach side cafes and buckets and spades in abundance! The old style high street has high end Couture jostling alongside the funky "Vintage store", cafes galore, and horse and trap rides from the town square in the Summer. Pleasant walks in all directions, along the river, over the downs, to the harbour (the Harbour Inn awaits) or meander in town to the Nelson Inn, one of the UKs Top Ten Pubs! Oh don't forget the fish and chip shops, Mark's is best at the top of the High Street or the Little Fish and Chip shop by the Swan Hotel (tip phone ahead to order there are always massive queues! Finally, the newly refurbished Swan Hotel has a cracking bar which serves excellent food and Adnams Beers, but if you need a dog friendly location for a pint try the back bar at the Crown Hotel, tiny, snug and fun!
  • Thanks again to Neil for a lovely stay in Southwold. His home is very comfortable and is positioned perfectly for quick access to the beach, pier and high street. We would love to come back again!

  • Adele is a fantastic host. Her stylish home is within a stone’s throw to the beach. It is spacious and sparkling clean. We’ve stayed there twice and will definitely go back. Would definitely recommend it.

    Julia2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great location right by the seafront. Very cosy room with nice touches, like the complimentary snacks and drinks. Adele was very communicative in organising check-in, and very friendly and helpful. Southwold is lovely and I would definitely stay here again

    Matt2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was comfortable, clean and well located. Adele was very easy to communicate with, was helpful and very thoughtful when providing advice. Thank you Adele.

  • Fantastic host, room and all the little touches. We couldn’t fault a thing. Just superb all round, including meeting Molly puss. Thank you again Adele

    Nicky2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderfully bright and spacious bedroom with a fab en-suite attached - both spotlessly clean. The house is brilliantly located, bang opposite the sea and a minutes walk from the town center. Adele is a smashing host, easy to get hold of and quick to reply. Everything from early our check in, on street parking and the fantastic array of complementary drinks and snacks available in the room made for a really fabulous stay. This room is great value for money and we’ll definitely be staying again next time we visit Southwold. We had a memorable time. Thank you Adele!

  • I’ve booked many AirBnB properties, but this was the first time I’d booked a room in someone’s house so wasn’t sure if I’d like it. I needn’t have worried. Like the previous reviewers have said, this was a lovely experience. The room is spacious, comfortable and well equipped -with complimentary extras that you wouldn’t get in a typical B&B or hotel room, like fresh milk, wine, fresh fruit. Plenty of towels, robes and a comfy bed. Adele was very welcoming, friendly and helpful and the location of the house is perfect for the seafront, pier and shops. My first trip to Southwold and I will definitely come back. I can highly recommend staying at Adele’s.

    Mary-Rose2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Adele's room was lovely, it was incredibly clean and had everything you could need and more - kettle, dressing gowns, different teas, snacks, drinks, stamped postcards, shampoo etc. It was perfect location, less than 5 minute walk to the high street. Adele was lovely, very helpful and I will definitely stay there again!

    Connie2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for hassle-free, convenient, clean and comfortable accommodation then Adele's is the place for you. The room with en-suite is fully equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, plus complementary fruit, biscuits and other nibbles, milk, bottled water, orange juice and even beer and wine. Another nice touch was the his and hers dressing gowns. We thoroughly recommend Adele's place, but as a cautionary note you may be unable to get close off-street parking and we would advise pre-booking restaurants, especially at busy holiday periods.

    * A fabulous place to self isolate * If you are looking for a long term rental (I.e six months) please get in contact to discuss. Super cute one bedroom barn with plenty of natural light, beautifully decorated and with a private garden courtyard. The Studio is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on a gorgeous leafy farm only 5 minutes from the seaside town of Southwold.
Newly converted, The Studio at High Wood Farm offers an escape from the hustle bustle of daily life. Situated on a quiet country lane tucked away from prying eyes, this one bedroom little slice of paradise means you can relax and recharge your batteries whilst enjoying some stunning local countryside. The popular and picturesque seaside town of Southwold is a mere five minutes away by car or if you fancy it, a 15 minute bike ride. Beautifully decorated with all your comforts in mind, this bijou little gem sits in its own grassy private courtyard with a large decking area where you can sit out and enjoy the fresh country air. The Studio offers privacy and is not overlooked by others. The decor is modern Scandinavian and as such it is full of light and warmth. (If you are at all light sensitive, it might be worth bringing an eye mask). The bed is super comfortable and the en-suite bathroom offers a bath with shower as well as a hand held shower head. We should point out that we are on a septic tank and therefore nothing bar natural waste should be put in the loo. There is hanging space for your clothes and we provide a hairdryer. The sitting area has a two seater sofa with a woollen blanket, some cushions and a cowhide rug on the floor. There is a smart TV. We provide some books, games, packs of cards and local maps. There is a breakfast bar with two stools to enjoy your breakfast at. We provide fresh bread, eggs, butter, a small selection of jams, and some other treats or two. The kitchen is fully equipped with a toaster, kettle, oven/microwave combo, radio, dishwasher and fridge. We have tried hard to make it a little home from home but if you are missing anything essential please just let us know and we will do our utmost to help. The outside decking area has two chairs, and a log for a table. It is a lovely space to sit out in the sun and in the evenings the outside lights light up the brick courtyard showing the original farm building in all its glory. Given that we live on a farm, there are animals about - we have horses, a farm dog, Jarvis, who is very lovely and super friendly and who likes to pay the odd visit, some beef cattle and the occasional chicken. We also have bees, insects and birds - we live in a diverse little community and we enjoy the odd noises and smells that sometimes come with living in the countryside. On the whole, it is a beautiful and lovely place to stay. It is very quiet and a great place to come back to at the end of a busy day for a glass of wine/beer or gin and a restful nights sleep.
Southwold is our nearest town and is super popular with old and young alike. It has fabulous beaches, a wealth of restaurants and pubs, lovely walks, the pier, the harbour and plenty of great activities for everyone to enjoy. Other places of note are Walberswick, Dunwich, Aldeburgh, Snape Maltings, Framlingham and it's castle, Norwich an hour to the north and Ipswich, an hour to the south.
  • The Studio is a fantastic space: clean, stylish (even better than it looks in the photos), well laid out and in a great location. 5 minutes drive into Southwold (visit Two Magpies Bakery) and a short walk to Reydon Wood.

    Noah2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time in the studio. It’s an excellent space - so nicely designed and really cosy. Great location for trips to southwold and countryside walls. Would definitely recommend!

    Elizabeth2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy and warm studio with plenty of space in the kitchen and a good size bath with shower. Very peaceful setting and an excellent view of the stars due to very little light pollution

    Victor2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is simply the best I could ever imagine . The architectural design , its harmony with the surrounding landscape. The peacefulness. And a pleasure to cook in a perfect kitchen. Many thanks to Filippa !

    Louis2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay in a comfortable accommodation a short drive from Southwold. A perfect stop for a weekend away. Filippa was very helpful and quick to reply to messages.

    Wendy2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • We think we found the perfect place to have a relaxing stay after a busy Christmas. Fillipa's place is a stylish and modern barn conversion with a private garden set in wonderful countryside. Check-in couldn't have been easier and the accommodation is sparklingly clean with a lovely kitchen and living area, a modern bathroom and bedroom. We stayed here in January so we didn't use the garden area but I'm sure we would have if the weather had been warmer, it is private and secluded with loads of sunlight to enjoy. Southwold is a manageble walk of around a mile and a half away which is a pretty seaside town with plenty of independent shops and great pubs along with a lovely beach, pier and prom. We will definitely be staying here again!

    Colin2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed in the studio over Christmas as our family were staying in the barn next door. It's a wonderful little retreat - so peaceful and cosy, and equipped with everything you need. The quiet location is perfect for getting away from it all, and Filippa is a very attentive (but not at all intrusive) host. Highly recommend!

    Celia2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • I spent 4 nights at the studio in November, looking for rest and solitude. It’s a great location and the studio is very comfortable. Filippa was a great host & responded very quickly and helpfully to my queries about the studio. She also gave a great suggestion of walking in Reydon Wood (about 10 minutes stroll from the studio) - highly recommended for peace & tranquility. I also recommend walking on southwold beach, south towards Warbleswick, like stepping back in time. Filippa left sour dough bread and other provisions which was a nice touch. I’d definitely go back there again.
