Places to stay in Sandwich
We went on a mission to find the perfect get-away from London. We discovered this beautiful grade 2 listed house built in the white cliffs of Dover and fell in love with it's charm. Ramsgate has a cosmopolitan vibe, a bustling Royal harbour borders a yacht-packed marina, awash with history and overflowing with continental charisma.
The house is in an amazing location on the beach front, this sun facing holiday home is a couple of footsteps to the golden sandy beach where the water is irresistible. The house is perfect for entertaining, the kitchen/diner has large windows with views of the sea. Spill out into the private front garden, take in the panoramic views of the shore and really soak up the sea air. Enjoy breakfast as the sun comes up or watch the stunning sunsets with friends and family with a glass of prosecco or two! Every great host needs an equally great kitchen table and ours is perfect for larger groups. To make life easier there is an intergrated oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge freezer, and microwave. The large lounge is situated on the first floor and benefits from a balcony with the same uninterrupted views, perfect for a spot of seagull watching! Relax on the comfy seven seater corner sofa, which is perfect to hang out and watch the smart flat screen TV or to simply wind down. To add to the comfort there is a separate three seater sofabed which readily converts into a bed with practical storage space under the seat for the bedding. The master bedroom is the most romantic place you could be, french doors open onto a balcony with picture perfect views. After a hard day sunbathing let the sea breeze waft into the room whilst soaking in the roll top bath, with a glass of wine whilst watching the boats sail to and from France into the sunset. A tranquil retreat! Next to the lounge is a bedroom with a bespoke contemporary double bunk bed made out of driftwood that sleeps four. It evokes the feeling of sleeping in a cabin on a boat, a iron wrought ladder replaces the traditional wardrobe and life buoys decorate the walls. There are two double beds in the converted loft, its accessed by a few fixed steps. The first level has a built in double mid sleeper and then up three steps, there is another double bed, but please note the bed is in the sloped eaves. There is a smart flat screen T.V with freeview channels. The shower room with toilet and sink is on the second level next to the master bedroom and next to the stairs for the loft, the shower is built into the cliffs. There is a toilet on the first floor level next to the lounge. Please note there are stairs to every level, which is why the lounge and bedroom offer balconies with breath taking views.
The house is in prime location, built in the White cliffs of Dover and a few steps from the sandy beach that stretches all the way to the next town Broadstairs. A five minute walk brings you to the bustling harbour which borders a yacht-packed marina where you will find pavement cafes and waterfront bars, where entertainment is plentiful. Awash with history and overflowing with continental charm, it's a must-see historic port, with a truly cosmopolitan feel. Turn left out of the house at low tide and walk the coastline to traditional Broadstairs (Charles Dickens Fans will appreciate). Browse the independent shops, stroll the promenade and explore the wonderful 7 Bays, where kids can scour the rock pools and discover the caves used by smugglers. Eat at the many restaurants on top of the cliff. Spoilt for choice: Nature lovers, walkers and cyclists have many paths to follow, locally continue on from town towards Westcliff this part of the Viking Coastal Trail will lead to Pegwell Bay (approximately 7km). Pegwell Bay is part of Kent's largest National Nature Reserve and the unprotected sea cliffs and reserve are of great geological interest, habitat to marine life, winter migrating birds and wildlife. Accessed by car Samphire Country Park in Dover & Folkestone provides a thriving ground for wildlife and tremendous views of the Channel from the top of the cliffs. On the way to Deal, Fowlmead Country Park has a playground for the kids and a (3.5km) road track set amidst panoramic views to the coast – bikes for hire and perfect for a fun family ride. Mountain bikers can take the off-road trails embarking on grassy slopes & short sharp climbs. Kids (and adults) can ride the BMX track for a small fee otherwise everything save for the cafe and bike hire comes free! A full active day out ! Starting from spring, boat trips from Ramsgate pick up for trips to Goodwin Sands, ideal for a special event or party. For the more adventurous kite surfing. The many sheltered bays, flat water and constant winds are perfect conditions for kite surfers. Ride Kite Surfing School operates courses from May to October, take a one day taster or undertake a certfied course, if you are really serious 1 to 1 lessons are available. Surf schools in Viking Bay and Joss Bay, hire out equipment and give lessons in paddleboard riding, kayaking, surfing or body boarding. Or sail away from Ramsgate Marina for a day trip out sea fishing or relaxing! July, 'Thanet at War' brings the 1940's vividly to life. Each August Bank Holiday, the Summer Squall multi-arts festival serves up a feast of workshops, exhibitions, film, theatre and dance Don't forget a day trip to Margate a 15-minute drive away or short train or bus ride, to see the latest Turner Gallery Exhibition and Dreamlands once again echos with the sounds (and screams) of delight and wonder, as visitors old and young enjoy the Great British seaside amusement experience.
  • Samantha was a great host , house is lovely and in a great location, would defiantly recommend.

  • Samantha is a wonderful, thoughtful host whose fabulous house is clean, spacious and incredibly comfortable! The location is amazing and the sea views are breathtaking! Our visit was extremely relaxing and reinvigorating! A great start to 2020! I would highly recommend booking a stay here!

    Maxine2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Samantha's house is an absolutely gorgeous place situated right on the beach in Ramsgate, with plenty of things to see and do nearby. We were all bowled over by the beautiful kitchen space, the ridiculously comfortable sofa, and the stunning view from the balcony. We'll definitely be back in summer!

  • This place is ultimately superb, we had 12 guests whom fitted comfortably, I was a little worried at first , however we could have had a couple of extra guest stay. The spaces are dived generously, so you can chill in the kitchen which seats up to 18 , or take in dramatic sea views from the ample living room above. We had lots of teenagers they were gaming and playing upstairs , where the adults could take advantage of the open plan dinning kitchen area on the ground floor overlooking the waves breaking on the sea walls, epic! Communication was excellent, and the wi fi , coped with all our demands. The location was spot on , a five minutes walk along a glorious stretch of sandy beach to the recently renovated Royal pavilion and the picture perfect marina and town beyond. A special place , fantastical value, we will be back, thanks Samantha for a place where we could enjoy life again.

  • This is a beautiful period house literally a stones throw from the beach. The views from each floor of the property were pretty amazing. The house is very light and airy, comfortably furnished, and the space is good for a large family.

    Luke2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • I would highly recommend staying at Samatha's house! Samatha is a great host, very helpful, quick responses and lots of local information provided from herself and a lovely folder at the house. The house is beautiful, great location, a quick walk into the town and beach front so easy access to piers and walking along the beach. Very clean, tidy and spacious, perfect for a weekend away!

  • Excellent weekend spent with friends at On the Beach. Couldn't fault the location, the sea views and the most relaxing bath tub with a glass of wine. Very happy to stay here again.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Sally’s amazing earth house. Even during Storm Dennis, the house was cosy and warm, and really well insulated from the noise of the storm outside. Sally was such a friendly and helpful host, and we felt really comfortable during our whole stay. It’s also in a brilliant location, close to so many interesting places :) a great base to explore lovely Kent from. Thanks Sally!:)

    Ally2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Sally made us feel very welcome on our stay. We loved the unique experience and would happily go again.

    Michael2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Hi Sally, We had such a wonderful stay. Everything about the house was perfect - and thank you so much for being great hosts. We could not recommend the booking highly enough. All the best, Andrew and Shopna

    Andrew2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I had such an incredible stay with Sally and Chris. The communication before the trip was great and we were warmly welcomed by Sally on arrival. The Straw Bale Studio itself is amazing. Despite it being a cold, rainy couple of days in November it was so warm and cosy inside. There were a lot of nice touches and Sally gave us some good local tips including a lovely cafe a short walk away. The place is a 2 minute walk to the train station (we rarely heard trains go past) and then a 5 minute train journey into Canterbury. Don't be put off by the compost toilet - it certainly adds to the experience! We can't wait to stay again.

    Daniel2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sally is a great host, always smiley and available. The place is unique and extremely cosy. Only potential downside is the toilet/shower outside but that, I believe, is part of the experience. Would definitely recommend!

    Nicola2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I had a lovely time in the spiral studio! We stayed on a rainy cold weekend, and it was very cosy and comfortable. Sally was very helpful and welcoming, even though we didn't meet in person. The home is 2 minutes on foot from the local train station, and there are some pretty walks nearby. The only thing I would mention is that the wifi is patchy, so if you are planning to watch films online, best to download everything in advance!

  • The property was lovely, done to a high standard with lovely furniture and fittings. It was really clean and Nikki had left a little folder of useful info like local places to eat/visit and instructions on how to work things. Would highly recommend!

    Victoria2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Best stay ever! So clean and such a lovely rural retreat. Considering the price of the place it's a real shame you have to pay £20 a day for the hot tub. But apart from that we will definitely be returning!!

    Jesse2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved it! Definitely will book this place more often. Thank you 😊

  • Nikki’s place is wonderful. Immaculately clean, and very well presented. I would love to stay again. As a host Communication from Nikki was timely and pleasant and without delay. Some sweet personal touches included too, her attention to detail was brilliant! Amazing value! Thank you Nikki!

  • Great accommodation! Peaceful, cosy and spacious for the 2 of us. Nikki was great with communicating quickly and for answering questions. Would stay there again!

    Dan2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing. Hot tub was perfect. Had everything you needed. Highly recommend

    Hannah2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • 💕I had such a wonderful stay!! The Coach House is the place you didn't know you needed. Nikki is amazing with her communication and really went above and beyond for my stay. It is the best of both worlds, the character of the historical building it is, but with the modern finish to it. The new kitchen was lovely to use! Definitely book use of the hot tub, I practically lived in it when I wasn't out and about exploring, it was wonderful! Location is great, just a couple of doors down from a pub and not far from beautiful places to visit like Canterbury, Whitstable and Broadstairs as examples. I would most definitely stay here again!! 💕

Formerly a fisherman's pub on Kingsdown beach The Victory is a much loved coastal retreat - in a beautiful and still somewhat undiscovered corner of England at the end of the White Cliffs of Dover and just 1.5 hours from London. The Victory has a Nordic theme inside with wood paneling and painted floorboards. It has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 8-10 comfortably. Please note: weekend bookings require a Friday and Saturday night.
On the ground floor is a bright kitchen and dining room that opens up on to an enclosed patio, only steps away from the wild flowers, picturesque beach-huts and sweeping views of Kingsdown beach. This floor also houses a sitting room with wood-burning stove, a shower room. At this level off the hall there's a bedroom at the front of the house with full size bunk beds. (It also has a cupboard full of toys to keep little ones amused even on rainy days). Upstairs is the master bedroom, a peaceful sanctuary to the adjoining sun room and terrace, a family bathroom, and a second, small double with pretty wallpaper and wonderful sea views. The top floor is a light, fun bedroom with sea views from every window. It contains a double bed and two singles, making it ideal for a second family or more friends. The Victory is walking distance (5 minutes) from the pretty village of Kingsdown - with 3 pubs, a village shop, a butcher and post office. There is a beach promenade, ideal for cycling, that takes you to Deal with its historic sites, food spots and vintage shopping in 15 minutes. Kingsdown is also the ideal haven from which to explore, with Walmer and Dover Castle, Sandwich, Margate and Broadstairs all less than 30minutes away.
With it's own shingle beach, magnificent views of the cliff, cute village shops and no less than three pubs to choose between, Kingsdown is a unique picturesque village on the East Kent coast. Stay put and enjoy the sea; jump on a bike and head into Deal with it's thriving Saturday market, vintage shops and deli's or while away an afternoon in the perfect English country garden at Walmer Castle.
  • Ten tired mums had the best stay at Christopher’s place. There are so many comfortable places in the house to hang out and have some space. We loved the sauna and the lush walk into Deal along the sea front. The house is very beautifully decorated and we would not hesitate to stay there again.

    Erin2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • It is such a joy to arrive at an Airbnb and find it as gorgeous in reality as in its listing. The Victory is the perfect seaside retreat for family or friend groups. Our kids loved sleeping together in the top room and the grownups appreciated the practical and stylish living space and the stunning sun lounge upstairs. We all loved the fact that a great pub is two doors’ away.

    Steve2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed with friends, kids and dogs the house was loved by all. We felt relaxed a real home from home. Great place, location and amenities.

  • Great position, really interesting and thoughtfully furnished house. Ideal for a large family or group. Spent a wonderful weekend celebrating our daughter’s 21st. Birthday for which it was just right.

    Ray2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The location in perfect. We stayed for 3 nights and really felt like we had escaped. We left the house only for sea dips, walks on the beach and visits to the pub. The kids loved the beach and the house is perfect and the decor is amazing.

    Caroline2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place to stay with a group of friends, the house is beautiful with everything you could possibly need - fire & sauna are massive bonuses and there are so many hang out spots that it felt just right for our large group of 10. With the pub a stone's throw away and backing onto the beach the location couldn't be better! Will definitely be back!

On a traffic-free, leafy lane adjoining the green expanse of Liverpool Lawn, this is a beautiful Georgian cottage/townhouse, with original beams, floorboards, fireplace, contemporary kitchen, and bathroom with rainfall walk-in shower. It's near Ramsgate marina and beach, and in the town's prettiest district. Great for a tranquil escape, making seaside memories. House is small so better suited to families than groups of friends. Only eco-friendly cleaning products used. NB: NO WIFI OR TV!
A characterful 1829 cottage, with something of a doll's house feel, a minute's walk from Ramsgate Marina. The front door leads onto the sitting room, with original floorboards, a two-seater sofa, and working fireplace (firewood provided). A VERY STEEP, narrow wooden staircase (note this might be difficult for some people) leads up to the 2 bedrooms, each also with original floorboards, and with leafy views. Be aware the double has a normal-sized double bed )not queen/king-sized) it'd be hard to get a larger bed in the house - we had to haul this up through the window in bits!! The house has central heating. There are no doors between the two bedrooms, which are interconnected by another very steep, narrow staircase. The second, top bedroom has two antique handpainted beds, both full size singles. There's a travel cot available. There are lots of books and toys for kids, including a dolls' house, ELC fort, mini table football and more...
This is Ramsgate's loveliest neighbourhood, full of Georgian and Victorian townhouses, with leafy lawns. At the end of the street, Liverpool Lawn is an accessible garden in a Georgian square. Waitrose is three minutes walk away. There's a great cafe, Vinylhead, around the corner on Addington St. Don't miss a meal in the Harbour Brasserie, where the setting is fantastic, with sea on all sides. Local places to visit include Botany Bay, Joss Bay, the Turner Contemporary, and Margate's retro themepark Dreamland.
  • Abigail’s place is charming and cosy, right in the heart of Ramsgate. We had a fabulous weekend - we walked along the coast to Margate, ate fish and chips, sat by the fire and played games. We will definitely be back.

  • Great cottage and a great location. Happy to recommend and hope to return.

  • I had a lovely time in Abigail's place. There were some initial issues with the toilet from a previous visitor but Abi was on the case and we had very friendly easy chats and confirmations. I was able to properly relax and I importantly got loads of good writing done - as per the brief.'

    Leigh2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a lovely cottage and we enjoyed our stay very much, the space is bright and so cute. Abi sent a super helpful email beforehand with all the info we could want about Ramsgate and the surrounding area. It was a lovely place to spend the weekend.

  • Lovely host and super cosy home

    Lucia2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Full of character with everything we needed, this house has a good location near the harbour.

    Claire2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • An absolute gem! So centrally located, and adorable and comfortable. A traveler's oasis, on a quiet street, walking distance (3-5 minutes) from the port and plenty of restaurants. We were tempted by the fireplace, during our chilly visit, but did not use it in the end. But it was nice to have as an option. There was plenty of space for the 2 of us and our (medium sized) dog. The place has everything you need, and nothing you don't need. The curtains and sheepskin throws add a nice soft and warm touch to the entire place.

In the year 598, Saint Augustine was sent to England by Pope Gregory I, on what might nowadays be called a revival mission. King of Kent at this time was Ethelbert, who happened to be married to a Christian, Bertha. Whether or not his spouse influenced him isn't known, but he allowed Augustine to found the first monastery in Britain just outside the city walls of Canterbury. It was originally created as a burial place for the Anglo-Saxon kings of Kent and is part of the Canterbury World Heritage Site, (along with the cathedral and St Martin's Church). It opens from Wednesday - Sunday between April and June, daily in July and August, and at weekends only for the rest of the year. Howletts zoo Bekesbourne Road, Bekesbourne Road, Bekesbourne, Canterbury CT4 5JL A world-class wild animal park set in ninety acres of beautiful ancient park land. It has a superb collection of exhibits including lions, tigers, elephants, and apes. The park, which was founded by John Aspinall, is also respected for its successful breeding programmes - along with its sister park at Port Lympne near Hythe. Wingham Wildlife park Rusham Road, Canterbury, CT3 1JL Wingham Wildlife Park first opened its doors as Wingham Bird Park in 1986, changing its name to Wingham Wildlife Park approximately 15 years later. The park is now so much more than birds and offer a full package of fun for all the family to enjoy from play areas, mini diggers and go-karts to hands on encounters, museum exhibits and beautiful picnic locations. Wildwood Trust Herne Common, Herne Bay, Kent Wildwood is a unique woodland discovery park. It occupies 40 acres of ancient woodland, with easy access and lots to do and explore. From owls to otters, bees to beavers, and wild boar to wolves, you can experience close encounters with native wildlife in an environment that is close to nature. The life of Wildwood constantly changes with the seasons; as the animals give birth a whole host of young animals can be spotted, which means every visit is a new experience. You can also travel back to Saxon times to meet the local residents and find out how humans and nature got along. Catch a live demonstration of their ancient crafts and skills from the UK's leading re-enactment society. Port Lympne Aldington Road, Lympne, Hythe CT21 4LR Set over 600 acres, Port Lympne is home to the UK’s most authentic safari experience, The African Experience – 100 acres alive with African animals. Join our safari vehicles to see animals including zebras and giraffes wandering freely then head off on foot around the rest of the park to see the big cats and primates. Look out for the baby giraffe and rhino born in 2016! Visitors to Port Lympne throughout the year are promised a super, natural and epic day out as they explore wooded pathways to discover where the wild things are and see the UK’s largest herd of black rhino, big cats, small cats, primates, western lowland gorillas and more. Tankerton slopes and beach The cliff-top lawns of Tankerton Slopes, with their colourful beach huts, roll gently towards the sea and provide an excellent vantage point to watch the nautical world go by. The coastline provides a lovely walk for miles or just find a place to relax on the shingle beach. There are far reaching views across the estuary towards Southend. A long thin spit of shingle is exposed at high tide locally known as 'The Street', which is quickly covered at high tide. During the winter months the slopes are a popular place for sledging! Broadstairs Broadstairs is popular for its award-winning Blue Flag sandy beaches, delightful range of independent shops and cliff top walks to neighbouring Ramsgate and Margate. Whitstable Whitstable is like no other town by the sea. Its traditional charms, strong arts culture and rich maritime history complement Whitstable's modern appeal. Whitstable's main claim to fame is its oysters which remain an intrinsic part of this sea town's character and are celebrated every July at the Oyster Festival. Oysters and other delicacies from the sea can be enjoyed at the local restaurants and pubs or taken home from the fresh fish market at the harbour. Local walks There are a number of beautiful walks located around Littlebourne. Walks to the nearby villages of Wickhambreaux and Ickham are definitely worth a visit. Both have lovely country pubs that served traditional home cooked food.

  • We have just come back from a 2 night stay at Bramble lodge and had a lovely time! The lodge is nice and spacious with everything you need, and the hot tub was amazing and made our stay. Angela was very helpful and quick at responding. Would definitely recommend staying here!

  • My friends and I stayed at Bramble lodge to celebrate a 30th birthday. We hired a chef Friday evening, who cooked us a lovely 3 course meal. The lodge is surrounded by farm land and is lovely and quiet. The hot tub was warm when we arrived and vert easy to use. Angela was welcoming and helped us set up the fire on Saturday evening also. I would recommend.

  • Bramble Lodge was lovely and Angela was a great host! I would recommend having a morning walk around the perimeter of Howletts zoo. We was lucky enough to see the Rhinos and Elephants this morning so it was well worth the muddy walk! I would definitely stay here again.

Relax and unwind by the ornate fireplace at this retro-styled Victorian terrace in the heart of the medieval town of Sandwich. Have breakfast in the pretty courtyard garden, then take a leisurely stroll to the quay for fish and chips.
The accommodation is a terraced 2 double bedroom early Victorian cottage. It fits a family four plus an infant in a travel cot or two couples comfortably. It is on a beautiful, quiet residential street in the heart of Sandwich with buildings dating back hundreds of years, grand walls and properties that are lovingly renovated and cared for. Staying on Vicarage Lane really is a delight. The kitchen is brand new and integrated with dishwasher and washing machine and there is also a lovely outside courtyard space with bbq and table and chair set. We've tried to think of everything to make your stay as good as possible. It takes less than a minute to walk to the amenities of Sandwich.
Sandwich really is a delight, with timbre-framed houses leaning over narrow streets. Follow the town trail taking in the historic sites, then relax on the quay with its cosy pubs and good eateries. Pop into Scrumalicious for yummy coffee and cake.
  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay at Claire's place. It is beautifully decorated in a lovely town. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again

  • Lovely Airbnb! Most comfortable bed ever, lots of space, beautiful fireplace. Claire was a great communicator and very understanding when our son was unwell.

  • We enjoyed a wonderful weekend break in this stylish, cosy cottage. It's been carefully and beautifully designed and is within walking distance of everything you need in the beautiful little town of Sandwich. If you enjoy dog walking - you can access the River Stour Valley Walk within 5 minutes of your front door and in about 40 mins you're at the beach. Thoroughly recommend.

    Nigel2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • This house is beautiful, stylish, warm and quiet. We could not have been more comfortable. It’s central to Sandwich town but delightfully peaceful, tucked into one of the prettiest parts of the town. Excellent.

    Philippa2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Claire’s little cottage was perfect. Positioned centrally in the delightful town of Sandwich it was just right for the family event that we were attending. I would thoroughly recommend staying in this lovely little property. It was spotlessly clean with everything that you could need, including fresh coffee and a cafetière. Thank you!

    Sue2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here with our baby for a dreamy few days in otherwise dreary January. It was absolutely perfect. The location couldn’t be better, the kitchen is well stocked and the house looks beautiful. Check in and out was super easy, Claire was available super quick for our one minor issue (sticky clicker on the travel cot) and all the information was well thought through, accessible and super helpful. Sandwich is a great town to visit with a baby. So old! Thanks Claire 😊

  • I enjoyed Robin and Ana’s little stylish space. I was in town golfing for a few days and absolutely loved Sandwich. The chalet was great! Very comfortable bed and a good amount of space. The train tracks are very very close and if you’re there to sleep this might not be the best place. I had no issues with it and had a great stay!

    Todd2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely chalet in a great location very near local amenities, it's a very nice place to stay. We caught the train and had no issues. Robin was very accomodating considering our late arrival time. The train can be loud but we found we got accustomed quickly. Highly recommend!

    Jonathan2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Anna made sure our guests will enjoy the stay. Thank you on their behalf.

    Alexandru2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Robin and Ana's place! It has lots of lovely charm and is very comfortable and peaceful. It was the perfect base for us to explore the local area, we wish we had stayed for longer. We didn't meet our hosts but did meet their lovely cat who was very friendly. The trains are quite the experience as they make the whole cottage shake, but that was part of the fun for us!

    Helen2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for the weekend, and it was lovely and clean, and had everything we needed. great location, sandwich is a really quaint pretty town. And Robin and Ana were really welcoming and helpful recommending local places to eat and see. We had a really lovely weekend! I’d highly recommend staying here.

    Kerry2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved Robin and Ana's cabin! It is quite spacious, and well-equipped. Our stay there came towards the end of 11 days away from home, so we were delighted to have the use of a washing maching and dryer. And when I asked if we could borrow an ironing board, they went out and bought one specially! Maybe I'm weird, but I loved hearing the trains go by just a few yards away on the other side of the hedge - and even feeling a bit of a rumble through the floor. I slept right through any early morning trains (were there any?), and didn't notice any late night ones. Tucked away in a corner of the large garden, we felt like we were staying in a rural idyll, yet it was a very short walk to the well-stocked Co-op supermarket and into the delightful olde-worlde town of Sandwich. We had a fabulous meal at My Thai - but book ahead as it's very popular with the locals! It was fun watching the cat gazing longingly into the waters of the pond where numerous busy goldfish were swimming around. And there was a special treat when Ana gave us a handful of fresh-picked green beans and mange touts straight from the garden. Delicious..... This is a lovely place to stay, and I recommend it thoroughly - and Robin and Ana are just perfect hosts. I'd go back there in a trice - if I didn't live on the opposite side of the country! :-)

A warm and quiet room, seperate from the main house, with own entrance. There is access to the house for ablutions. In the garden there is a seating area which you are able to use, have a BBQ or just relax. Washing machine and dryer. There is also an outside tap to clean off muddy boots etc. If it is a warm day, please dry clothes outside, think about the environment. On entering the house you are in the kitchen, make yourself tea/coffee.
Anyone walking the Via Francigena with a credencial will get the room for half price ( I will give you the money back) and an evening meal. If I'm around I'll give you a lift to Dover or Canterbury. I walked it in 2017. The gaden has room for tents, so fill your boots.
There is a pub with a restaurant in the village, and also a village shop. The two nearby villages also have pubs, they are a 30 minute walk away along paths or road. Howletts wild animal park is a 20 minute walk away.

  • This place is one of my favourite places, where everything is just so right, Mick is a great host and the house and the room is welcoming, clean, neat, stylish and gemuetlich at the same time. The house is quiet and the surroundings are too. The area invites you to explore, so many old houses, Canterbury is near and so is Sandwich, a hidden gem, unspoilt. I had only time for 4 nights but hope to be back in the summer.

    Ulla2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Mick is a very friendly and forthcoming host who really cares to make you feel at home. His place is a perfect base from which to discover the immediate surroundings as well as cities like Canterbury and London. Certainly worthy of a special recommendation! Henk

  • If you are looking for a good-looking, friendly, caring, kind and humourous host, Mick is definitely the one you are looking for. Every corner of his house is tidy, neat and clean becauae he tidies up the whole place frequently. Mick is very sporty so sometimes he will ask you to go for a walk around Canterbury if you want to. By having walked with Mick around Littlebourne, I got the chance to explore and know more about Littlebourne history. Such valuable experiences I got from Mick! Highly recommend!

Was very close to local town which had costa and Sainsbury’s etc. Also close to Minnie bay beach about 5 minute drive 10 minute walk ,which we spent some time at and I’m sure it would be even nicer during the summer time . I went there for an event at quex Park which is also very local . Saw Gareth and his family a couple of times very friendly and helpful.

Relaxed home with spacious bedroom containing comfortable bunk beds suitable for 1 or 2 guests, lots of storage,TV and tea/coffee facilities. The area is close to the A2, local beaches and an ideal location for exploring the Island, with a good bus/train service.
I have a generous sized room in my home which is in the quiet village of Garlinge on the outskirts of Margate. The room contains adult size bunk beds and is suitable for either 1 or 2 people, the rent is adjusted accordingly. There is also a mattress so a third person can be accommodated if needed. The room has good storage, TV with freeview and tea/coffee making facilities as well as a small fridge for your use. There is a table and chairs for guests to work and use laptops. There is also a hairdryer/curling tongs/hair straighteners and an iron/ironing board. Maps and tourist information leaflets are left in the room for guests own use. I share my home with my dog who is very friendly so it would be great if you like animals !
Garlinge is on the outskirts of Margate and is a quiet residential area close to beautiful local beaches as well as seaside cafes and shops in Westgate and Westbrook. Margate Town centre is approximately 25 minutes walk where The Turner Contemporary Centre boasts exhibitions from famous and local artists and is well worth a visit. Margate also has some lovely cafes, restaurants and some local pubs provide live music. There is also a jazz club hosting comedy entertainment. Our Theatre Royal is one of the oldest Theatres in Britain and is worth visiting; it has a beautiful interior and along with the Winter Gardens showcases plays, concerts and comedy shows. Margate Old Town is lovely to take a leisurely stroll through and has unique and interesting architecture. It also contains delightful sprawling cafes and quirky retro and vintage shops to browse in. If you want a holiday which is relaxed then Margate is definitely the place to visit, whether for a weekend away or a base to explore the rest of Thanet. Margate is only 1 hour and twenty minutes on the fast train from London which makes it ideal for weekends away. Local bus stops provide easy access to the historic port of Ramsgate and the beautiful tourist town of Broadstairs which has an annual Charles Dickens Week and is home to the Broadstairs Folk Festival. Travelling around Thanet is very easy and convenient from local bus stops. Buses also go to Canterbury, which is well worth a visit with it's historic Cathedral. The quaint seaside resorts of Westgate-on-Sea (with an independent cinema) and Birchington, are definitely worth visiting.

A lovely light house, perfectly situated in the centre of historic Sandwich; a walking distance to all of the bars and restaurants that Sandwich has to offer and only a short drive to the amazing golf courses.
A rare find in Sandwich, this house conveniently has its own garage (for a small car) and a secluded sunny courtyard perfect for outdoor dining. The house is small but can host 4 guests as the living area has two comfy single sofabeds
  • We had an excellent stay here and was very handy for visiting my Dad who lives locally. The place was exceptionally clean and had everything we needed for a short stay. We will stay here again!

There is parking nearby and everything is within easy walking distance so the car wasn't needed most of the time. We had a wonderful stay and I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

  • Nicki went above and beyond during our stay. She is a true professional but also someone who genuinely cares about her guests. She picked us up from the train station, showed us around her sweet home and let us know that she was there if we needed anything. The location is perfect for walks along the river and just a few minutes walk from cafes and shops. Her home is the cleanest Airbnb I have ever stayed in. Lots of thoughtful touches and everything you need for a great stay. I thoroughly recommend.

  • Quiet, cosy and comfortable house, perfect for 2 people. Great location, quick walk to the shops, pubs and restaurants. Uncluttered and tastefully decorated. Bed is very comfortable! Nicki was quick to respond, she wasn't able to great us on arrival but not a problem as we recieved detailed arrival instructions and the self check in was simple. Many thanks for a lovely stay!

A beautifully 400 year old grade II* listed building full of history - Winston Churchill once stayed here! Set in the Kent countryside there are stunning walks and cycle rides. The local village (Minster) hosts a number of great pubs, restaurants, tea room and mainline train station. We are surrounded by lovely coastline too and for golfing enthusiast we are just 16mins drive from the hosts of the 2020 Open in Sandwich. A warm welcome awaits guests.
Our home is old and full of character, this includes some uneven walls and floors. The ceiling height is good throughout but some of the doorways are low so you may need to duck to do through them.
  • Amazing Hosts. Very accommodating. Our Nan is in hospital and we were worried about what time we may be able to check in but both Linda and Dave were so lovely and accommodating and let us check in really late. They were lovely hosts, really friendly with a cute dog called max and jasper the cat :) thankyou so so much!!!

Freshly and tastefully decorated, this double room in a welcoming house in Ramsgate with its fabulous views over the town, is the perfect place to chill. Situated approx. 3 mins from the gorgeous East Cliff beach, the property is close to town also. A recent makeover includes a top-notch, five-star, feel good, shower room experience.
Situated on the brow of Ramsgate's east Cliff, this second floor room in an early Victorian house has really fabulous views across the little town and beyond. It's also a bright and spacious feeling room that has been newly decorated in relaxing white. There is a very funky basement kitchen at the property where guests are welcome to have a tea or coffee. A nicely cooked breakfast can also be enjoyed here at a small extra charge. The room itself is stylishly furnished with vintage items and has a bookshelf full of great books for your perusal. Of course, free wi-fi is available.
We are situated on the fabulous East cliff with its truly magnificent, wild coast line with great walks to Broadstairs and surrounding areas. The neighbourhood is residential and largely quite. It is about a 5 minute walk to town. There are good pubs and restaurants locally which I am happy to discuss.
  • Very nice house. Lovely bed and room. Good books , great harbour. Beautiful beach. Nice cat who i only met when i sat in living room in the morning. Nice people.

  • I’d recommend staying here. The room was functional and has everything you need. I stayed on one of the hottest days ever, but the room had good ventilation from the large window overlooking Ramsgate. The bed was comfy and I slept well. It was very quiet (except for the thunder!) The shower room was excellent, and I’d definitely stay again if it’s available next time I’m in Ramsgate! Thanks!

  • This return to Ramsgate was a sort of pilgrimage. A place where I was 20 years old came to take courses at churchill house. The reunion with the city was moving, coupled with the warm welcome of karen even more. A comfortable house a spacious room and a perfect location to go to the sea and do everything on foot. A smiling and caring hostess. A recommended address. This return to Ramsgate was a lot of pilgrimage. A place where I was 20 years old at churchill house. The apartment is extremely well furnished and fitted to a high standard with everything a holidaymaker would need or expect. The rooms are very spacious and airy and a great deal of care has been taken in creating the apartment. My wife and I thoroughly recommend the property and would not hesitate to book again.

  • We are repeat visitors to the Granary. We have been spoilt to the extent that we can only say that Jennie's high standards always meet or go beyond our expectations. A lovely place for peace and undisturbed tranquillity. We stayed in December so dark very early on so if really really really pushed to find fault - it would be a suggestion rather than a criticism. Perhaps bring a torch/phone torch for the approach through the Garden. Other than that. Excellent as ever. Fully recommended and will be returning in 2020.

    Aaron2019-12-27T00:00:00Z

Prosecco and cake can be arranged for a treat on arrival, and a continental breakfast comes as standard and can be found in the studio fridge. Tea, coffee, and herbal drinks are also available. There is no kitchen as such, but there is a microwave oven should you need to self cater. Guests have the use of the rear garden, but are asked to keep noise to a minimum in respect of the neighbours and children's riding school at the back of the property. This is a place that welcomes creatives, nature lovers, and folk who won't mind the odd muddy paw print. Allergy sufferers please come prepared, the pollen count can be high and we do have pets and feather filled bedding. If you come across a creepy crawly we will do our best to guide them elsewhere, but we are very much out in the country! Expect to hear birdsong in the morning and owls at night, and sometimes the call of the wild really does drift over the fields as the lions roar from Wingham Wildlife Park.
Preston is a small rural village with a traditional church, village hall, community meadow, and recreation ground which includes a children's play area. A short walk through the orchards brings you to the picturesque Elmstone, which boasts a beautiful picnic spot and quaint library in a telephone phone box. Within a stones throw of the studio is Preston Garden Centre's fabulous bistro 'Coppers' where you can grab anything from a coffee and croissant to a full roast dinner, and pick up a tropical plant while you're at it! There's also a local shop, butchers, and pub in walking distance, and many more fine eateries and entertaining venues within a few minutes drive. Try The Anchor in Wingham for live music and fabulous pub grub, or Grove Ferry for boat rides or a spot of kayaking. You can paddle up river to nearby Fordwich, as old as the Dooms Day Book, and enjoy Michelin star cuisine for lunch at the Fordwich Arms! Or walk across the fields and relax in front of the fire with a craft beer at the Duke of William in Ickham. Historic Canterbury is a 20 minute drive, as is Sandwich, Deal and Dover. If its Art and Culture you are looking for, hang out in hip Whitstable, visit Margate's Turner Contemporary, or eat fish and chips with an Antony Gormley sculpture in Folkestone, all within a similar distance. There's something for everyone in this region, and with easy access to London, the ports, and channel tunnel, its the perfect place to explore the rest of Europe.
  • Such an amazing stay - Emily was a wonderful host (very quick replies!) and the place was idyllic. Just as good as the pictures, if not better. Very secluded, nice little extras (cake, breakfast, local apple juice and milk) and very well equipped (blankets, games, books, bubble bath, radio etc.). Would definitely return - the perfect getaway from city life! Thanks so much x

  • Emily's place was absolutely lovely. Thanks to all of the thoughtful touches and the peace and quiet, we had a very relaxing stay. Communication was excellent. I'd highly recommend Emily's place for a relaxing break. Thanks Emily :)

  • Couldn’t recommend this place more. It’s a really beautiful space, amazingly decorated. Was so cosy in winter and we are also going to go back for summer as I bet it’s gorgeous then too! Emily was a great host with lots of tips to share!

  • If you’re looking for somewhere to come for a break from modern life, this is the place to go. The studio is gorgeous, so well designed and totally peaceful. We loved the rural location, which is out of the way but also still a short drive from local attractions so not too far away from civilisation! Emily was a great host, friendly, helpful and quick with responses. We would highly recommend a stay here.

Only 15 mins from the Port of Dover by car. 25 mins from the Eurotunnel entrance. Close to many beautiful Kentish spots. A small single room in my home as a perfect stop over for the night or base to explore from. Note: This is my second room. Better suited for single occupancy. There are Dogs & Cats in the house. (Very Friendly we promise!) Just off the A2 in the quiet village of Shepherdswell.
A bungalow house with off road parking On the North Downs Way for walkers! And the Via Francigéna.
There are no places to eat in the village. Pubs that serve food are a short drive away or the Co-Op convenience store is at the bottom of the village. Shepherdswell is a small old Kent village. Sat on the North Downs Way. A stop for the East Kent (Steam) Railway.
  • Valerie was a lovely host. The house is very warm and pleasant and the room impeccable. It was a great place to stay in the Via Francigena, I recommend it!

13 Campbell Road is a previous fisherman's cottage set over three floors that I've owned and loved for 8 years. It's a wonderful place to get away from the day to day stresses with the beach and the sea gulls making it feel like a holiday destination every time. It has loads of character and is as comfortable to be in, in the summer or the winter with either the garden or the snug with the log burner to relax in. The road is made up of pastel coloured houses with a real sense of the neighbourly.
Deal High Street is a leisurely 15 minute walk away along the promenade past Deal Castle towards the pier. There are no shortages of great cafes to call into.

'Church View' is a charming and well presented Grade II Listed Victorian house with lovely original features in the conservation area of Sandwich. Situated in the heart of this beautiful and historic town on the river and close to the sea. It is easy to get about on foot to access all shops, pubs and restaurants. Ideal for a relaxing break, and great for visiting the East Kent coastline. Next door to 'Goats that Dance' coffee shop and opposite the stunningly beautiful St Peter's Church.
Being in the heart of the conservation area, Church View does not have it's own parking. We do offer a free car-park pass for one car for a local car-park close-by.
Sandwich is one of the most perfect examples of a medieval town in the UK. Situated on the river Stour, it has everything you need in close proximity. So much so you can leave your car behind! Sandwich is full of lovely walks, restaurants and pubs. It is also about a 5 minute drive from the nearest beach at Sandwich Bay. It is also close to Deal, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Canterbury.
  • Wonderful property - the pictures don't do it justice. Lots of space / light and a joy to wake up to the view. Excellent location and everything needed for a comfortable stay. Check-in very straight-forward and reassuring to know Lindsay was close at hand if we needed anything (but we didn't!)

    Siobhan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved the cottage, sparkling clean, stylish, warm (we had to turn the heating down!), lovely comfy beds and 2 bathrooms, one of which is en-suite. Lindsey was very fast to respond to my messages and very accommodating. The location is great and the view of the church is very pretty. The bells do ring early in the morning but we promptly went back to sleep and hey you are opposite a church! Highly recommended and we hope to be back soon!

    Lorraine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely cottage in a beautiful little town. This was the perfect cosy base for our Mum and sisters weekend away. We will definitely return.

    Zoe2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage in a great location. Everything we needed and more space than expected. Lindsay was easy to communicate with and provided a great recommendation for a family friendly restaurant. Would definitely recommend and book again if in the area!

    Laura2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • A charming house in an ideal location. Lindsey was super-responsive to our requests and also, very sweetly, provided us with Christmas decorations, lights and a card, to make us feel at home over the Christmas period. Best of all, her house is next door to the best coffee shop in Sandwich!

    Susan2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful cottage in the best location with incredible views of the Church. A perfect, cosy and comfortable home in the heart of Sandwich. Lindsey was extremely communicative throughout our stay- highly recommended!

The bedroom is spacious with plenty of storage. It has a black out blind to ensure a good nights sleep. There is a private bathroom only shared with the other guest room. It has a deep bath for a luxurious soak and a shower for the quick get away! The sea is at the bottom of the road and the Turner Gallery and Dreamland fun park are about a mile away. There are three theatres, amusement arcades, bowling alley and the historic old town all close by.
  • Super nice host and everything was perfect. Great location, cozy room, comfortable bed and clean bathroom. Worth to spend night. Really had a good time in Margate.

THIS ROOM IS ONLY AVAILABLE WHEN BOOKED IN ADDITION TO THE MAIN BEDROOM (click on my icon to view) and is suitable for children. The photos show one single bed but a second bed can be pulled out if needed. There is a velux window and the room adjoins the main bedroom where the bathroom and tea making facilities can be shared with parents. A second private bathroom with bath downstairs can usually be made available on request
The house is situated less than 100 metres from the sea via a private road. There is off street parking and you are welcome to use the garden. Walmer is an unspoilt seaside location. We are a 15 minute walk along the seafront from Kingsdown, where you will find a lovely pub serving great food right on the beach. The village boasts 2 further pubs, a post office/general store/newsagent and a hairdresser. Lovely walks along the cliffs from here in the direction of St. Margaret's. Deal is a thriving, award winning town just a 5 minute drive away from Walmer and boasts museums, a gallery, the timeball tower, a Saturday morning market with local produce, antiques and collectables. There are interesting pubs serving good food, independent shops and a pier much favoured by fishermen. The architecture is interesting - Deal is famed for its smuggling past. Walmer Castle (home of the Wellington Boot!) is a 15 minute walk from the house, while Deal Castle is a 5 minute drive or 40 minute walk away.
  • Christine's accommodation is in a great location: only approx. 50 meters to the pebble beach and a good 20 minutes walk along the promenade to Deal and the pier. The rooms are just perfect: we had booked both the double room with bath / shower and the single room for our daughter. Both rooms are accessible via a separate staircase and are right next to each other. So you have the possibility to use both rooms like a small apartment. The breakfast is fantastic: there is fresh fruit, delicious muesli, yogurt, warm rolls and croissants with various jams, milk, juice and very good coffee - everything was of a very high quality! In short: we felt totally comfortable, not least because of Christine's unobtrusive, generous manner and her great hospitality! We will come back in any case!
