Places to stay in Grantham
The self-catering studio space is private, just outside garden of main house, with its own drive for parking. It's close to the centre of the village and has excellent car and rail connections to other parts of the UK. It is ideal for one or two guests - couples, solo adventurers, business travellers. Simple help-yourself breakfast included, and some provisions, with small kitchenette. There's a garage space on ground floor below if needed for storage. Please note spiral staircase is narrow.
The space is like a tardis. It opens up at the top and is a warm, compact space, simply furnished. Although it is next to a village street on one side, it is generally quiet; you can hear owls in the evening sometimes.
The studio space is near the centre of the village with a greengrocers, a butchers, and two small supermarkets a minute or two away for those wishing to cook. Otherwise, there are two pubs (limited food), two cafes and two good restaurants, one with a wine bar and sometimes live music, as well as good fish and chips, Indian (sit down) and Chinese take-away amenities. The church dates from the medieval period and is well worth investigating. All around there are walks. A drive away, plenty more to visit.
  • Cosy and homely place to stay.

  • Absolutely lovely stay with thoughtful touches! So warm and cosy. Delighted with the fresh local produce waiting for us with a lovely bottle of red wine. Exceptional guidebook with local info. WiFi info was particularly helpful as it was a bit touch and go with storm Dennis! 100% would recommend and stay again!

  • A well appointed studio space with a few surprises. Clean, quite and relaxing with everything needed for pleasant stay. Great communication from Harriet and what a great location in a superb village in the Vale of Belvior.

    Stephen2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Harriet was wonderful with us, took care of every detail and was extremely friendly. The flat is just like the photos, very well decorated and clean. In the small kitchen, you have what you need, in addition to a pantry that allows you to make your own breakfast. Nearby you can find a restaurant and a small market. The train station is 5 minutes walking, but I recommend that people go by car. If you go to hell, I recommend taking warm clothes, the flat has heating and a hot bedding. My husband and I recommend the place and would go back for a second visit.

    Danielle2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • I have stayed in the main house at Harriet's before and this was my first time in the studio. Cosy, snug, peaceful - I slept so well and got lots of work done. Harriet had filled the fridge with basics and breakfast things and left such a kind welcome gift - a bar of vegan chocolate. Definitely game for a return visit.

    Sarah2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Really cosy and comfortable! Harriet is a great host, very friendly and welcoming! Definitely recommend!

  • We had a wonderful time in Jayne’s beautiful home. The house itself is spacious for a small family or couple and is cosy, clean and very comfortable indeed. The countryside location is beautiful; our 18 month old daughter delighted in seeing horses and tractors go past, and pheasants in the garden. All in all a lovely home from Home, in a great location. Jayne was a fabulous host, giving us loads of local tips and advice, responding to our queries instantly and even helping us out once we arrived and realised we had forgotten some essential items! We will be back.

    Sarah2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful space to relax in that exceeded our expectations. We fell in love with this gorgeous accommodation. High end finish and contemporary style with some fabulous olde world features giving a feeling of luxury. The fabulous fireplace has the wow factor and is enhanced by mood lighting. Underfloor heating makes it cosy but we couldn’t resist the log burner which was mesmerising. Two huge sofas to stretch on whilst watching TV make for a very relaxing stay in great surroundings. The bathroom also has mood lighting and I felt as if I was having a bath by candlelight. The bedroom was quiet and bed so comfortable. Jayne was a delightful host making us welcome and providing so many thoughtful touches. We did some beautiful walks in the local area. I would love to return for another stay.

    Cathy2020-03-11T00:00:00Z

  • Great place to stay and lovely hosts... nothing was too much trouble.

    Joseph2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Paulines flat whilst attending a conference at Newark. Very easy to get to and a lovely warm cosy place. Very clean and lovely big fluffy towels (small towels are a pet hate!) Paulines communication was very good and recommend a local pub for dinner which didn’t disappoint. I managed to leave my phone charger behind and Pauline kindly posted it back to me. Very accommodating and highly recommended

The Lodge forms part of our stable and garage outbuildings. We have just finished renovating and decorating to a luxurious standard giving a hunting lodge type feel with exposed stone and beams. In addition to the completely self-contained lodge you will also have use of our private heated swimming pool – just a short walk from the accommodation within our grounds. Come and explore all Lincolnshire has to offer or relax and use the spa like facilities.
A secluded hideaway set within beautiful Lincolnshire countryside. Come and explore the super walks from your doorstep or use the lodge as a fantastic base to explore all Lincolnshire has to offer – Belton Park is just a ten minute drive as is the railway station (we may be able to arrange collection/return at a small extra cost).
  • Beautiful location, so quiet. I felt extremely safe with the locked gates. The owners live right next door but were so discreet. The swimming pool was so much fun with floats and pool noodles to use. Such a cosy, warm cottage feel, underfloor heating in the bathroom and heated towel rail reminded me of center parcs! Treats left in the kitchen were wonderful, we felt very spoilt. Would definitely love to stay again.

    Rachel2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place to stay. Rachel and Simon are so thoughtful. Little touches made the weekend. Bed was so comfortable and the decor is gorgeous. Immaculately clean and well presented. Definitely would love to stay again.

    Alan2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • I am going to sound like a broken record because I can vouch for all the happy reviews that I have read on Here, before We visited this Beautiful Setup. We genuinely had a 'simply wonderful Christmas time', with so many thoughtful touches and lovely+clean facilities for Us+young toddler to enjoy. We were safe and warm from the Winter Rain in this Wonderland but still close enough to be able to easily drive into Grantham town and visit family. In addition to everything else, which was already ample value - the private pool was a complete luxury and novelty to be able to access. Fabulous.

    Rosie2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful stay! Couldn’t recommend it enough - homely, cosy and beautiful! Rachel and Simon were so helpful throughout our stay. We will be back!

    Elle2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • An incredible place to get away. Highly recommended. Brilliant communication, lovely place with some lovely touches by Simon and Rachel. Would visit again.

    Dilraj2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • You will not be disappointed if you book this place. Every home comfort and more besides in a peaceful location. We particularly loved the pool for our daily swim. Rachel and Simon were helpful but not intrusive.

    Cathy2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • We felt looked after and relaxed during our stay. Rachel met us on arrival and took great care in greeting us, especially engaging with our baby and checking we had everything we needed. The bed is massive and very comfortable. The lodge felt cosy and homely. The pool is such a lovely facility and easy to access, and enjoyed it all to ourselves ! Thoughtful little food items on arrival helped us settle in quickly. Fab location to get to local National Trusts and sample pork pies in Melton Mowbray!

    Helen2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place to stay -even better than the photos. Lovely decor and very comfortable bed and plenty of space. Lots of thoughtful finishing touches . Rachel and Simon were very welcoming and we especially enjoyed the great pool . Location very easy to find and we would certainly come again

  • The cottage is absolutely beautiful - both the situation and the facilities. AJ was a wonderful host, and we were treated to many extra touches such as cakes, chocolates, breakfast goodies, etc. The cottage is very well provisioned, and we had everything we could possibly need. Everything was spotless and all the furnishings, towels, bedding, etc. is really high quality. We couldn't have asked for more, and will definitely be visiting again.

    Catherine2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Accommodation was excellent - clean, spacious and extremely well-provisioned. AJ answered all queries promptly. The activity centre nearby was an added bonus, as were the choccies on the bed 😄

Great Gonerby's village centre has a lovely little church, post-office and shop. The Recruiting Sergeant pub is great for drinks and informal meals and by contrast Harry's Place is an award-winning restaurant which was once famous for being the smallest Michelin-starred restaurant in the country (just 10 seats!) There is a footpath running through our field which takes you to Belton in about 30 minutes. The footpath continues to the village of Syston, with it's lovely farm shop, cafe and 'pick-your-own'. Further still you'll reach Barkston for a well-deserved drink in the The Stag (the fish and chips are highly recommended too!) You can reach Grantham on foot, car or bus from the village. It has several supermarkets, cafes and shops. We can recommend a couple of outstanding Nepalese restaurants that will also be happy to deliver as well as pizza, chinese and Japanese. Grantham's St Wulframs church dominates views of the town with it's famously high spire. It is also noted for its former inhabitants, Sir Isaac newton and Margaret Thatcher.

  • What an amazing accommodation. Sparkling clean and modern with all the facilities you would need. Great location near Belton House and not too far from town. I would thoroughly recommend staying at Rhona's place.

    Graham2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Super stay at this lovely space..... everything we needed for our stay. Cosy and stylish space and all under one room. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Rhona thought of everything - local tips in a brochure, milk and bread on arrival and set back from the main road so very little noise and nice to face a field!

  • We really enjoyed our stay. The house and pub were both fantastic! Everything was exactly how it was described. The pub had excellent food and was a great place to hangout when we needed. Cabs and taxis were available upon call to take us to neighboring towns so no need to rent a car if that is a concern.

    Maggie2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious and clean with everything we required. Lovely location. Hope to return.

    Mandy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great trip to the wheat sheaf cottage. Place was just as lovely as the photos. Host was accommodating and really quick at replying to messages. Pub next door was great, really decent food. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

  • Booked for work. Really convenient location for us. Many thanks.

  • This was our third stay here, we keep coming back as the cottage is very comfortable, well equipped and dog friendly. Hospitality great from basics Inc bread, milk etc in the kitchen to hot water bottles in the bedrooms. We cooked a meal and then ordered puddings from the pub which they kindly brought over.. I can recommend the sticky toffee pudding and the crumble!

  • We stayed here as we were attending a local festival. It’s a very cute little stay. Gavin was a great host, very welcoming, and told us all about the area we were staying. We loved the little touches such as the themed towels and bedding. It was super clean, spacious and had a beautiful outdoor area with a little picnic table! We will definitely be staying here again, it was lovely.

  • I highly recommend this detached space in lovely rural surroundings, with hens and bantums running free in a beautifully kept farm. There are great roads and villages all around if you like a country drive and pub. Gavin and Libby were great, unintrusive hosts.

  • Very clean and tidy in a nice and quiet location in the countryside. Would definitely recommend this place and stay again.

  • This is a lovely quiet location. Gavin provided a good range of basic food and drink supplies for us to use. Communication was quick and clear.

  • You will not be disappointed in booking a stay at The Stable. It is really superb self-contained accommodation, with great facilities, and in a beautiful setting. Gavin, the host and his wife, are fantastic people - so friendly and obliging, and go far beyond the extra mile to make their guests feel comfortable and at home. The Stable at Littlegates Farm is very highly recommended by us, it is very clean and well appointed, and we would certainly return there.

    Anne2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • From Gavin's warm welcome and willingness to help in any way he could, to the comfortable and classy accommodation in an idyllic location, I cannot rate The Stables highly enough. Everything about The Stables is quality - the finish, the extremely comfortable bed and furniture, a large screen television and a silent fridge!. And, of course, it was spotlessly clean. Gavin also very kindly provided some thoughtful touches, with everything provided to make yourself a nice breakfast. All for a very reasonable price. The greatest commendation I can give is that I will definitely be back!

    Neil2019-06-22T00:00:00Z

  • Sara and John's house is a real gem. Comfortable, tasteful, practical, and clean, it has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The location is stunning, the garden beautiful, and the pool and tennis court a real bonus. Sara and John are friendly, helpful and generous hosts. We had a fantastic week at Rosemary Cottage and would certainly return in the future - not least because there is so much to see in the area (and if you want to be car-free, there are great walks right on your doorstep). Good shops and pubs nearby too. In a nutshell, we can highly recommend Rosemary Cottage!

    Claire2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful location, surrounded by Sara's beautiful gardens & the Lincolnshire countryside. The house itself was perfect- every we needed for our stay. Sara & John were so friendly & helpful, providing useful tips & information about places to visit. The pool was perfect & was well used, despite the unfortunate weather

    Julie2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect family holiday we had at Rosemary Cottage! We have stayed in some excellent Airbnbs but this surpasses all and exceeded our expectations. The cottage is beautifully presented, very well equipped and super clean. The beds are comfortable, the showers are great and there are so many extras like an additional fridge freezer, toiletries, games, DVDs, a piano and freshly picked flowers. The setting is peaceful and truly spectacular with a huge, exceptionally well kept garden and stunning open views over the countryside. The pool, of course, was a massive hit with the kids and we were so grateful that it was heated to a good temperature with plentiful supply of inflatables! The grass tennis court and croquet provided further sources of entertainment. Although there is plenty to do in the local area (Benton House is well worth a visit, for example), we spent a lot of time relaxing on the grounds and felt spoilt having coffees and a barbecue outside when the sun was out. With 2 wild boys and a wilder toddler, this level of relaxation is rarely possible for us and we are immensely grateful to Inca, Moete and Scribble - the most gentle and affectionate dogs - for their assistance in this endeavour. The boys fell in love with them! This review would not be complete without special mention of John and Sara. They are warm, generous hosts who couldn’t have done more to make our stay special, including sorting us out with a dinner pack when we stupidly forgot that the shops close early in England on Sundays! In sum, Rosemary Cottage offers everything as listed and so, so much more. It’s extremely good value for money and we look forward to making more happy memories on our next visit! 5 stars and high-5s all round!!

Rest assured you will enjoy staying here whether you are a couple, on your own, or on business. Grantham is lovely and peaceful. Sir Isaac Newton & former PM Margaret Thatcher was born here. Close to amenities, Harlaxton Manor, Belton House, Belvoir Castle, business parks & 10-15 mins walk to the station, 1 hour from London Kings Cross. Easy access to the A1, A46, A52. The house is comfortable and relaxing. The bedroom is on the top floor with powerful shower in the Jack'n'Jill en-suite
The bedroom is lovely, warm, bright and comfortable with a Jack'n'Jill en-suite shower room with plenty of storage on the top floor of our house giving views over Grantham. Within the bedroom there's a bedside table and lamp - small folding table and chair - wi-fi access with portable USB laptop reading light. Slimline cupboard/bookcase and small 4 drawer chest. There's a separate cosy reception room on the ground floor with a tv for further relaxation and handy for guests looking for a longer stay.
The area is safe, fairly quiet with mainly new houses, within walking distance to the town centre, railway station, supermarkets (Marks & Spencer Food - Sainsbury's - Aldi) and other shops. Guildhall Arts Centre, Grant Meres Gym, fee paying golf and tennis nearby. Guests are encouraged to be realistic when booking with us - It's best to ask us or research the area prior to booking to check whether the facilities/amenities meets your requirements. Our location is what it is - we love living here. Grantham is a town not a city therefore guests wanting the hustle and bustle or a faster pace - this can be found in Nottingham and Lincoln and easily accessible by train 35 and 60 minutes respectively.
  • Beautiful room. Great host, very hospitable. Easy check in would stay again. Thank you.

A Grade 11 listed Elizabethan Lincolnshire Longhouse next to the imposing stone Georgian Priory House, noted by TV appearances featuring its unusual interior. Huge chestnut, oak and beech trees welcome you through the leafy wooded drive. Formerly a provider of ales to Priory House and its servants it is now a romantic hideaway with a touch of baronial splendour and oodles of exotica. Relax in the foliage filled conservatory. The spacious oak beamed lounge combines the comfort of the cosy sofas with antique furniture and ethnic art. Curl up in front of the fire and the 42” plasma TV. A traditional Persian carpet softens the medieval style terracotta floor. A pretty little French chandelier illuminates the dining table and leopard skin curtains from the famous Biba's in the 1970's provide a feeing of warmth and privacy. The Inglenook fireplace features a log burning stove. We provide a big basket of logs for your first night and you can purchase more if neccessary. An intricately carved Indian screen covers one wall, installed by the explorer and mystic Sir Francis Younghusband who brought it back from Karachi after he led the British Army into Lassa, Tibet in 1904. A cast iron spiral staircase takes you to the minstrel's gallery bedroom and a secret door in the screen leads to the kitchen and shower room. The Indian theme is continued in the designer built kitchen, incorporating an Edwardian brown glazed sink and a brand new Rangemaster cooker with ceramic hob. You will find everything you need for grand cooking including some basic provisions and condiments in the store cupboard. The shower room features a separate WC and the original decorated Victorian hand basin. We are pet friendly with a small charge and can also put extra beds in the lounge for children. Host a "house party" for family and friends by combining it with the two lovely guest rooms in the adjoining Priory House. You have your own private entrance through your conservatory, filled with foliage, settee and bistro chairs for your morning coffee. Outside the front you have secure parking and garden furniture. There is also access to the walled garden and we can give you a guided tour of the fascinating interior of Priory House which is licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies. As we live next door in Priory House we are on hand to help in any way and here to welcome you when you arrive. We like to get an email or phone call from you so that we have an estimated time of arrival and can discuss any special requests you may have. You can ring us on (phone number hidden) or simply knock on our front door if you need us during your stay. We can also give you more information on local shops, restaurants and pubs. But we know that privacy is the key to enjoying your holiday. It is your own special place! Priory House and the Oriental Brewhouse sit in their own private grounds of one and a half acres. Situated in a quiet part of Long Bennington village near the church we are a short walk or drive to our village shops and three pub/restuarants. There is also a coffee shop and a fish and chip shop as well as a post office/general store and family butchers/grocery shop and a newsagents. If you want a special meal we can recommend The Reindeer Inn. Booking is advised especially at weekends which we will do for you if you want. Newark historic market town is only 6 miles north on the A1 and full of independant shops, coffee shops and restaurants. We love the market square with it's Town Hall and old buildings and there is a market every day except Tuesday and Sunday, a flea market on Mondays and Thursdays. Newark is renowned for it's antique shops. Grantham is the birthplace of Margaret Thatcher and has a market on Saturdays. Both towns have many supermarkets. If you like walking or cycling we are on the Viking Way and have many public footpaths across country fields in the village. There is plenty of parking space in the in/out gated drive. The village is in between Newark and Grantham on the A1. There are railway stations at Newark and Grantham too, from London Kings Cross, with taxies available. There is a bus service to both towns conveniently along Church Street outside the house, timetable available. The nearest airport is East Midlands 35 miles away, where you can hire a car. Your hosts, Roger and Carole, are both artists in fashion and sculpture. So don't expect a minimalist interior here! We are obsessed with collections and decoration. You will find African carved furniture, an Indian dowry chest brought back by us from Rajastan, Chinese coffee table and Spanish red and gold chairs, all mixed up with comfy feather sofas and ornamental cushions. But somehow it all goes together. As one of our comments in the visitor's book for Priory House B&B says "A visual feast! Beautiful, eclectic, slightly mad but great fun and a wonderfully interesting place to stay"
  • Such a beautiful & unique space. We spent two nights here over the festive period and found the barn to be very romantic and the perfect hideaway, whilst it still provides mod cons such as a TV, DVD Player, kitchen with everything you would need to cook your own meals etc...we particularly loved all of the unique decor, antiques and oriental touches. You can literally find a unique ornament or piece of furniture in every corner! Carole & Roger are very friendly and welcoming. The house is very easy to find, just a short distance from the A1 but still in a lovely, rural setting but not too far should you wish to explore the surrounding villages, towns & cities. Thank you for having us, we had a wonderful stay! Rob & Suzy

    Rob2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Fab, quirky and interesting place. The photos do it justice and if you're up for a riot of colour and curious objects you'll be happy! We really enjoyed a walk down to The Reindeer in the evenings (good beer and the food looked great too) and had a great indian takeaway from the village too. Lovely misty walk along the river bank with the dog too.

    Peter2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, querky and magnificent. Great village too. Try The Reindeer pub on the main street. You can take dogs in the left hand room, and the food is great.

  • A lovely stay in a quirky, characterful and historic building situated in a peaceful and charming spot. Carole and Roger are warm, friendly hosts and shared interesting facts about the Brewhouse and their own amazing home next door. A memorable experience for us both!

  • We stayed at Teri's as a convenient stopover after visiting our son in Nottingham. Really lovely quiet rural space with beautiful views. Really thoughtful touches with cupboards full of essentials. A cost night in and then a day trip to Newark. Teri and Jo are really hospitable and we will certainly be back.

    Gary2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Teri went above and beyond to make our visit perfect; thanks so much for your incredible hospitality. We stayed at the lodge as we were going to a friend's wedding in Stubton Hall (walkable distance - approx 25 mins). The setting was quiet and serene - we enjoyed seeing the chickens, dogs and horses, and watching the pheasants hop around in the field. It was the perfect base for us; the lodge was super clean, kitchen utensils available for cooking, and we had a good, comfortable sleep after a long day.

  • Excellent host and facilities highly recommend staying over will do myself when back in town.. Parking was easy, only difficulty was seeing door number on a unpleasant night but that’s not Jacqueline’s problem more to do with my lamp oil

  • Jacquline's home is close to Grantham and Barkston Heath (where I was visiting a three-day event) in a quiet pleasant street. I was impressed by the warm, helpful welcome during which I was introduced to the room and the facilities available. I was also pleased to have a car space reserved for me, which was respected when the family's friends were visiting. The room is ensuite, has a large television on the wall facing the bed, and its own fridge freezer in the landing - complete with a bottle of milk and a couple of water bottles. Nice touches. I think there was a microwave, too - but as i was dining with friends, I didn't use it. Great place. Great people. Recommended.

  • Everything was as expected. Off-road parking. A clean, large room with en-suite bathroom. I was able to use the kitchen. The room was quiet and I got a good nights sleep. I would certainly return. Recommended.

Modern decorated bedroom, plenty of space, large private bathroom/toilet/electric shaver point. New high pressure shower. Also a selection of teas, coffee, bottled water, tissues and dressing gowns for your comfort. Bottled water and milk in bedroom refrigerator. New HD 32in Tv. Situated in a quiet residential area in a small market town of Sleaford approx. 30min by car from the beautiful City of Lincoln.
We are a short car ride from The Petwood Hotel where the famous Dam Busters was planned. While in the area visit the amazing Kinema in the Woods still with its original architecture and enjoy the owner playing the organ during an interval. The famous Boston stump is a short car ride away, you can visit the museum where the Pilgrim Fathers were imprisoned. Unfortunately space does not let me tell you about the many other interesting places in our area. Sleaford also benefits from the "The Hub" which is an education converted grain store, complete with refreshment facilities.
Lincolnshire is normally thought of being very flat but we do have the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, this is an hilly area of natural beauty also discover our beautiful villages along the way. Why not visit our Museum in Sleaford, this may only be small but is packed with amazing information about Sleaford and the surrounding area.

  • We had a truly peaceful stay at Roddy’s gorgeous home!!! Though we arrived late, he greeted us and helped us park and invited us in. We could have enjoyed spending time in his beautiful living room but we opted to sleep because of our early morning schedule. He had water and fruit at our bedside. The rooms were immaculate and cosy. We slept well. The next morning he offered us tea or coffee but we were dashing out the door. I would most highly recommend Roddy’s place for a delightful and very safe place to spend the night!

  • What a gem! Beautifully clean and comfortable room with bathroom in a lovely home. We felt like we had a private wing and had plenty of peace and quiet, with views over hills. Roddy was a fantastic host with little touches of hospitality. It's the perfect stop off the A1 and broke up our long journey leaving us feeling refreshed and restored after a great night's sleep. There's a fab coffee shop in the next village too for breakfast in the morning. Thanks so much Roddy, one of the best Airbnb stays we have had.

  • Morag and Ian were so welcoming and kind: they provided us with local taxi advice to make getting to and from a wedding easy; their house is sparkling and we enjoyed breakfast they provided. Thanks again!

  • I stayed here for 1 night for an event at PFI Karting. Ian and Morag were very friendly and helpful. A lovely comfortable bed. Pub within walking distance for evening meal.

    Carol2018-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was exactly as described on the website. Very clean, well appointed and all of a good quality. I was a single traveller and felt very safe and welcome whilst I was there. Breakfast was cooked to order, fruit juice, tea/coffee and then either poached or scrambled eggs on toast. You could have fruit and yoghurt instead if you preferred. Small things like fresh milk and iced water were also provided and topped up for the second day. It was just the right amount of hospitality, you could have a chat or just do your own thing if you had a busy day. I would highly recommend their lovely home.

  • A Pleasant , homely house ,set in a rural location , within 4 to 6 miles of Newark. All facilities were in place , tea making TV and a really comfortable double bed . The hosts were really friendly and helpful , breakfast was nice but with limited choice which was enough for me . I would stop here again if i was in the area but be aware if you are allergic to cats they do have two ,which presented no problem for me . There is a pub within walking distance if you wish an evening meal .If you want peace and quiet , this is the place to be

  • We were visiting family in nearby Grantham and Lincoln so Sally's place was really convenient. The pictures don't do the apartment justice, it is light and airy, and so clean. We popped to the local supermarket (ASDA) before arriving to buy some food for tea, the kitchen is well equipped. Sally left a hamper with milk, butter, bread, cereals and jam. The beds are both really comfy. The sofa bed is so easy to pull out. Sally had a selection of toys and my two year old loved the tub of dinosaurs, he played with them for hours! Thanks for a lovely stay. Charlotte

My home is comfortable and developed through time with affection. Airbnb is on top attic floor with steep stairs so not appropriate for those with mobility issues - sorry. Double bedroom, bathroom, TV area + kettle, second bedroom with sofa bed for two children (pre-school go free) OR couple who can cope with intimate space! Help-yourself breakfast included. Downstairs & garden accessible. Bikes available. Lively village and transport links good. Dogs welcome. Come to walk, cycle, rest, tour.
The Airbnb attic space plus own door and (steep) stairway is exclusive to guests, as is the small shower room inc. toilet. There is a double room with one bed, a lounging area +TV, plus smaller bedroom for one (or 2) other/s with a double futon sofa bed. A baby or older child is welcome - there is a small 'den' for children. However, a toddler and the stairs might not be safe, on the other hand, there is a child safety gate now. It might also be tricky for those who cannot manage stairs well. A discussion about this is encouraged. Note that the roof inclines so that it is low at the sides of rooms but there is still full height space throughout. It includes some beautiful exposed beams but has also been modernised. The decor is simple with old and contemporary mix. There is wifi and a small TV. You can hear the occasional vehicle passing and the odd bird hopping on the roof!
Village background: Craven House has old connections with Belvoir Castle estates, like some of the surrounding buildings and the church. What was the old Fleming hospital, developed by a 'good doctor' and the 'friendly society', is next door. There are many Grade II listed buildings in the immediate vicinity. The church is well worth a visit and offers free wifi during the day! It is elegant with its own medieval beginnings, resonant with tales of the Earls of Rutland, the ‘witches’ of the 17th century, the community’s part in the wars. The old part of the village still has long houses and a few remaining walled gardens for vegetable growing. Today, with a population around 3,500, the village is swelling fast and lively with children, schools, playing fields and skate park. There is some light industry at either end of the village, including the claypigeon factory and the stilton cheese factory. Other local produce includes cereals, rape oil, honey, Belvoir cordials and porkpies. Do ask about these. Bottesford facilities: the village has a butchers, greengrocers, plus Co-op (7am-10pm including Sunday) and 'village store' (open very early to late; good selection of wine and ales). There are two pubs though they do not do food at weekends/evenings. There is a chippy, a Chinese and an Indian restaurant, plus the Poppy and Pizzini cafes. A bit more upmarket are 'Paul's' bistro and restaurant, The Thatch. All a short walk away. [Check for some closures on Sunday evenings/Mondays]. With transport, you can get to good pubs/restaurants all around the villages - or head to Nottingham. Other attractions are Belvoir Castle itself, a few miles from Bottesford, with entry to the house or/and grounds (not cheap) mostly on Sunday and Monday from Easter. Look for the castle’s Gothic silhouette when approaching the village. There is Isaac Newton’s house and garden at Woolsthorpe Manor, Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, and Belton House at Grantham. [Check the postcodes of places as there are two ‘Bottesfords’, two ‘Woolsthorpes’ and two ‘Caythorpes’ – very confusing]. Of course, there are many more points of interest including life in Nottingham, the city where I grew up. Some miles drive outside the city, you can find the Dukeries, Sherwood forest, Clumber Park - the ‘Robin Hood’ territory. Rutland, the Lincolnshire Wolds and Derbyshire plus Pennines are really not that far if you wanted to travel around, and there are a number of pleasant market towns dotted about too. In the first six months of Airbnb (to end August, 2016) guests have stayed for the following reasons: walks, the national water sports stadium and rowing, sky diving at Langar airfield, tough mudding at the castle, a number of weddings, business meetings in Grantham and Nottingham, a tour of historic buildings in the area, bell-ringing, horse trials, travelling across the Midland counties, and various London-Scotland trips...welcome all Europeans!
  • Harriet’s place was perfect for a relaxing weekend, it was so cosy and had all the local amenities that we needed. We would definitely stay again!

    Charlotte2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place, with a real family feel to it. A fully stocked kitchen with utensils and pans etc was a great bonus. It is a lived in house, so it has all the quirks living alongside someone else brings, but it wasn’t an issue for me and my children, we were given space and privacy all weekend.

She provided lots of details how to find her place and nearby tourists attractions. • The cottages are exactly as described but possibly even more homely. There are thoughtful touches, such as a welcoming drink, milk and chocolates. The whole cottage we stayed in ‘Garden View’ was tastefully furnished throughout and immaculately clean. A selection of DVDs, cosy lounge with fire (and snuggly blanket!) all made for a welcome retreat. The kitchen has everything you may need for looking after yourself and the beds were very comfortable. Nearby pubs and local supermarket, together with local places to visit are mentioned in a welcome pack. Pauline, who lives next door is very accommodating and quick to reply to any queries or concerns. I would not hesitate to recommend and would hope we can return at some time in the future.

  • This is beautiful, peaceful retreat with very friendly, helpful owners. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Comfortable, stylish and traditional with everything provided. I had a lovely couple days here and felt so peaceful and happy. Perfect

  • A delightful little cottage hidden away with fabulous views. Beds (can either be two singles or one kingsize) were incredibly comfortable. The host met us on arrival, ensured the heating was on and showed us how to use the WiFi, shower, where the breakfast things were, extra blankets for the beds etc. Incredibly clean (always great to feel you can wander around barefoot), lovely hot shower, towels provided. Breakfast was a selection of oats, muesli, shredded wheat, pain au chocolat, filter coffee, tea, fresh milk. Plenty of food and plenty of comfort.

  • Great place and great hosts :)

    Andrew2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Such a perfectly formed lovely studio - with the most amazing views! The space felt generous, it was spotless and the Wi-Fi was great! No issues at all. Simon and Alison were so friendly, it was fantastic to feel like you have you're own private space which isn't overlooked at all, while knowing they're close by in case you need anything. I will definitely be back!

  • The host was amazing, greeted us nicely and redirected us despite the. Fact we got lost and missed the turn and she came out of her way to come get us. The location and scenery was amazing to wake up to and to go for a walk with some good local pubs near by for food. I couldn’t fault anything it was the perfect weekend for me and my partner. Will definitely be visiting again.

  • Emma's beautiful 18th century townhouse is a lovely mixture of original features and modern additions. It does have plenty of quirky aspects....wonky door handles, some uneven floors etc that you'd expect for its vintage. However, it is beautifully warm and cosy, and the decor is fabulous. We were 6 adults and 2 little ones and it easily accommodated us. Emma had provided a little bed and a cot, with baby blankets and baby toiletries. Also loads of breakfast items, milk, wine, celebration cake and toiletries which was very much appreciated. The beds are very comfy and the 2 bathrooms are well appointed. The hot tub is a bonus, although we didn't have time to use it! Expect to stay in a 'home', not a soulless b&b.

  • It's a lovely place to stay and only a 7 minute walk to the town centre. Comfy beds and hot showers. There were lots of extra touches, such as breakfast bits, toiletries and flip flops for the hot tub. We would stay here again if we were needing a place to stay.

    Clare2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay with family. It's a spacious and comfortable home and Ben and Emma were very responsive and helpful. They also left lots of lovely breakfast bits for us so we were t short of snacks and tea/coffee. Easy parking and nearby Belton House was amazing for the kids.

  • James is the most wonderful , Delightful, caring host! It was like staying with a family member. His home is charming in a quiet neighborhood. It is about a 10 minute walk to the main part of Grantham and all the shops. I am from America and was unsure about how my accommodations would be. James’ place and James himself exceeded every expectation I had and put my mind to ease quickly! James is very thoughtful and gives you travel tips and recommendations on what to see locally and where to eat! When you come home from a weekend excursion he is there waiting to make sure you made it home safely. He is a delight to speak to, he asks about your stay and visit. He had fresh flowers in the house and it felt so very welcoming! We also travel to Scotland and to Greece. James’ place far exceeded anything we stayed at. If you stay here you will not be disappointed!
