Places to stay in Endeavour Inlet
Spectacular sea views over the beautiful Waikawa Bay in stunning Marlborough Sounds. Double bedroom, lounge, kitchen, bathroom and deck all to yourselves in an elevated position at the top of a quiet cul de sac. Separate access to the top of the house, with one car parking space at the side of the garage. A 2-minute stroll to beach, jetty & boat ramp. Kids playground, free BBQ, small beach, jumping off water platoons, a lovely place to spend the day/evening.
A short 10-minute walk to the nearest restaurant at the Marina or jump in their courtesy van. Great for lunch or dinner, even a coffee watching the boats come and go. You have full, private access to the top of the house. I live in the bottom of the house while guests are here. Message me if you would like an earlier check in, I will accommodate if I can. I have just installed a brand new kitchen. There is a sofa bed in the lounge to accommodate 2 extra guests. 1 person can sleep on the couch. I have 2 cats, who probably will come to visit you, so you will have to excuse the odd cat hair here and there. Free tea, coffee, salt and pepper, condiments. The washing machine is in my part of the house and can be used when I am at home or under arrangement. Long stay discounts.
A short 7 minute drive into Picton where you will find artisan shops, cafes, eateries and activities. From mini-gold to swimming with the dolphins, Picton has many things to do.
  • This stay was exceptional. The pictures don't do it justice, it is a lot bigger and more modern than it looks on pictures. Brand new huge kitchen, gigantic living room opening on terrace with stunning view over the bay. All commodities are furnished as well, and it is very quiet in there. Would come back again for sure. This house is awesome. The entire second floor space is your personal space. The interior design is lovely. The new kitchen is awesome. It has all the kitchen equipment, ingredients, pots and tools. It is very suitable for staying for more than two days. The glass door, the view of the bay is super beautiful, and the sun is very warm. It just does n’t want to go. The landlord is very nice. She can help you with any problems you have. The point is that the price is good and cheap. There is a chance to really Would like to stay again. Praise ten stars

  • This is a really great apartment. Spacious, stylish, really clean, loads of storage and a gorgeous view from the large deck and living area. We were only there for a night after arriving on the ferry, but it would be ideal for a longer stay as its so comfortable and has such a good kitchen. We were sorry to leave so soon. Can't recommend highly enough!

    Kate2020-03-09T00:00:00Z

Clarice Buckland Hut is 2 mins off the Queen Charlotte Track in Endeavour Inlet; a perfect place to relax at the end of Day 1 of this unique coastal walkway, or you can come straight here by water taxi.
The accommodation is a one-room cosy hut, complete with comfy double bed (made up with fresh linen and duvet), a table and chairs. The hut is solidly built from recycled materials and well insulated. It has a covered outdoor deck that gets great afternoon sun. The view is out over a garden, with glimpses of the sea through the trees. Clarice Buckland Hut provides the perfect retreat for those wanting to get away from it all and experience a simple life. Facilities include an electric kettle, crockery, utensils and everything you need to make a cup of tea or coffee. Milk and spring water are provided in a cooler. The rate includes a continental breakfast (homemade muesli and yoghurt).
The hut is surrounded by regenerating native forest, pretty bays with stunning clear water, and many native birds including weka, tui and kereru. We hope you enjoy the dawn chorus - the best alarm clock ever! There are two small beaches within a couple of minutes of the hut, great for a refreshing dip in the sea. At dusk you may hear the little blue penguins calling as they come ashore after a day's fishing. We have 'penguin palaces' hidden along the shoreline which they use for breeding, but unless it's Sept - Nov you are unlikely to see them. Penguins are very shy. Seals and dolphins are regularly seen on the boat as you head out into Queen Charlotte Sound (but they're not captive so we can't guarantee you'll see them!) On a dark, still night there are glow worms along the Queen Charlotte Track, and phosphorescence in the water. This is a glow-in-the-dark swimming experience you'll never forget. We are located in Endeavour Inlet, about 100m off the Queen Charlotte Track (also part of Te Araroa Trail). It's approximately 4 hours walk from Meretoto/Ship Cove.
  • Comfortable, private hut with hot out side solar shower, composting toilet and delicious home made bread, muesli with yoghurt, home honey from their hives. Swim off “the pines” jetty and enjoy the “glamming” experience!

    Travis2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • A paradisical little hideaway. What a find! Delicious homemade produce. So comfortable and welcoming .

    Teresa2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful, unique accommodation! I'd recommend this place to anyone doing the QCT. It's a wonderful, relaxing place to stay at for the first night!

  • Great place to do walks on the track -Excellent communication and place was what we expected -good location for the day 1 and day 2 walks on the track using the water taxi recommended by hosts

  • Beautiful, nice & quiet spot, delicious breakfast. Recommended!!

    Ineke2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful secluded spot up the hill behind hosts’ home with a very comfortable bed and small table for meals. Homemade bread and honey provided as well as milk and yoghurt. Shower is outdoor with a solar bag and tap with small sink is also outdoors. Not much wanting except maybe a fan for when it is hot. Excellent location, amazing beauty in the sounds.

    Brian2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a breath of fresh air. We stayed here after the first day of walking the QTC and couldn't have picked a better spot. Mathea and Keran have created a lovely space using mostly recycled materials and adding thoughtful touches. Mathea had sent us very detailed instructions on how to get to the hut and Keran kindly picked our bags up from the jetty. The property itself is in a secluded spot and the hut is separated from the main house by the garden so guests have complete privacy. The hut has a lovely porch with a view of the bay and everything (the shower, toilet, sink) is very close. Shower gel and washing up liquid were provided which was a nice bonus. Comfy bed and great breakfast with some local produce! If you don't want to cook, the Furneaux Lodge is a short walk (20 mins) away.

    Bob2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Difficult to 'move butt' as we were always fascinated by the spectacular view and movement of the ferries. Great base for exploring everything Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough Wine Country, Blenheim (and beyond) has to offer. Margaret and Ian are fabulous hosts, giving you a heartfelt welcome and instantly making you feel 'at home away from home'. Highly recommended.

    Carola2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Margaret and Ian were wonderful hosts. We came as guests and left as friends. Kind and considerate, they prepared a wonderful home for us. It was clean, spacious and had many places to sit and relax. The kitchen was great for cooking meals and the bed was so comfy. Beautiful sheets. And the best part,??? That amazing view. Coffee on the deck was a delight and a glass of wine in the hot tub offered a magnificent sunset. I am sure this is what heaven is like. Thanks for an amazing stay.

    Lauri2020-02-26T00:00:00Z

    Deborah2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, spacious apartment on a hill overlooking the sounds. Ian is a great host and very responsive. We loved the extensive views from every room in the house, and of course the gorgeous patio.

    Melissa2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great house, 15 minutes from Picton, with a huge balcony overlooking the spectacular sounds. The photos don't quite do the view justice. A great area to stay in and better value than others. The Queen Charlotte Track, the view and fresh mussels were our highlights.

  • Excellent stay. Great facilities and so quiet and peaceful.

    Jane2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Tania's cottage was perfect - clean, convenient, with plenty of space for the 2 of us. The bed is big and comfortable, but the couch is also super comfortable for sleeping. The cottage is located quite conveniently in that it's super close to Picton's town center, but also feels a bit removed/off the beaten path in a tranquil countryside setting. Tania was really helpful and pointed us toward some great walks/viewpoints.

    Lauren2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This AirBnB is simply lovely. Very clean and full amenities to get you by. We loved the location and the couch/TV and bed set up. We left our accommodation very early and the hosts didnt seem bothered by this which is really nice! We also had a huge trailer that they were more than happy for us to park on the property, which is really hard to find. Great stay, would totally recommend to anyone.

    Annie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect for couples! Secluded getaway but not so far from town that it's an inconvenience. Would stay there again!

Tui Glen is situated in a picturesque and peaceful spot in the heart of Endeavour Inlet in the Marlborough Sounds. This classic kiwi bach is a perfect spot for a traditional kiwi holiday of swimming, fishing, bush walks or simply just relaxing. It's a 15 minute walk to Furneaux Lodge via the Queen Charlotte walking track which runs past the front of the property. The property is nestled in it own small glen which allows you to sit out on the deck overlooking the bay.
Tui Glen is a typical humble kiwiana bach with 1 main bedroom that sleeps up to 3, a bunk room for 2, a combined main living room / kitchen and also a combined laundry / bathroom. There is a mooring available at an extra charge.
  • One of the most special places we've ever been! It was pure heaven! The bach is a slice of New Zealand history and I hope it never changes and stays in its original condition, it's what makes it so special and adds to it's charm. Brian was a great host and gave amazing advice on travel and the area. If you want to be visited by a Weka every morning, do bombs off your own jetty into the water and be surrounded by native bush and birds this is the place for you. A truly magical spot in one of the NZ's most beautiful areas. We will be back for longer next time!

    Richard2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Brian’s place was such a treat. Beautiful spot and we had a ton of fun on the water and kayaks. Not a far walk away from the lodge for dinner. We will be back.

    Chelsi2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Brian's bach is in an awesome spot in Endeavour Inlet. An easy and most enjoyable walk to Furneaux Lodge and the private jetty is so close for drop off/pick up by the water taxis. The bach is exactly as described - it is basic but it has everything you need. Loved seeing the Wekas wandering around the section!!

    Penny2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Easily one of the best AirBnBs I have stayed at. Brian’s Bach is a perfect little hideout for a quiet but eventful weekend getaway- Great location, lovely view, a beach for swimming/ kayaking as well as a track for walks. The Bach in itself is beautiful, clean and cozy, as well as superbly equipped in terms of cooking, cleaning and laundry equipment. Brian was an exceptionally kind and responsive host. He trusted us with his personal kayaks and taught us kayaking on a slightly windy morning, accompanied us for a walk after sundown to watch the glow worms nearby and even helped us with grocery supplies. All this in addition to the detailed house tour, local tips and so on, of course. Our stay at Brian’s Bach was truly an enriching experience especially as overseas travellers, and we hope many people experience the same magic that we did :)

    Neha2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • This old-fashioned Kiwi bach had all the facilities you’d expect and had a comfy bed and a great shower. The deck was sheltered but gave glimpses of the Sounds so you felt private but not isolated. Brian couldn’t do enough for us. We could even have used his kayaks if it hadn’t been so windy. Furneaux Lodge was a 15 minute walk away so food was always available if you felt like eating out.

    Lyn2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing spot. Paradise. This batch is a typical generational family batch or crib. The story of the batch and the local area is fascinating. The batch itself is very cool piece of history. A home that has grown with the family and time, it is a slice of a typical good old kiwi-ana life. Don’t expect the ritz, that’s not what this is about.. comfortable fun and getting back to basics of a traditional New Zealand holiday ! No iPad required! Your host is very accommodating to ensure you have everything you need. Please note that travelling into the sounds requires planning. Just ask for advise from your host they will gladly help answer your questions. By boat from Endeavour Inlet, and located on the Queen Charlotte track it is an amazing blend of families and tourists that pass the front of the property which adds to this unique experience. A pier to fish on and tracks to walk, a lodge and bar not too far.. it’s got something for the whole family! We loved this spot and would come back for a longer stay without hesitation!

  • This is an exceptionally good place, exactly as described in a lovely part of South Island. Jo and Bruce were friendly and welcoming..The place is nicely laid out and spotlessly clean . It is 30 minutes walk or 5 minute drive to Picton but it is in a quiet Road surrounded by hills. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the deck in the sunshine,

  • Ian has a lovely place with a beautiful view in a fabulous location just outside of the heart of Picton, which allows you to slow down at the end of a day of travel and enjoy the local hospitality, restaurants and serenity, but keeps you close enough to be super convenient to everything. The pictures and description are spot on but the idyllic view and peaceful surroundings in a tastefully appointed apartment exceeded our expectations. We would not hesitate to book again!

Absolute WATERFRONT! Our very unique, semi self-contained, downstairs guest suite is beachfront in the picturesque Marlborough Sounds. Only 10 minutes drive from Picton where the train, bus or ferry connects you to the gateway of the South Island or North Island. Soak in the spa pool, relax on a deck with a glass of wine, use the kayaks or paddleboard or put out a fishing rod just metres from your suite. Unique location right on the waters edge in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds.
There are no cooking facilities in your suite, apart from a microwave oven. There is a BBQ upstairs that you are welcome to use or you can use our kitchen upstairs too, if required. We do have 96 steps down from the road so you do need to be reasonably fit and active to access the property. We live upstairs, onsite at the property, you have your own external access to the suite downstairs so don't need to come through our area. There are two lots of external stairs you can use for access. If you have a boat that you wish to bring, just let us know and we should be able to sort a mooring for you in front of your suite. You also will have access to our jetty for pick ups & drop offs together with a dinghy. To access the toilet, you either need to go through the 2nd bedroom or out along the deck into the boat shed. The shower is in between the 2 bedrooms.
Waikawa is 5 minutes drive (20 minutes walk) and Picton is 10 minutes drive (50 minutes walk)from our beach house. Marlborough wineries are only 30 mins drive: http://www.wine-marlborough.co.nz/wine-trail/ Queen Charlotte track is a 20 mins boat trip: http://www.qctrack.co.nz/
  • Beautiful and comfortable place. Very stylish, relaxing by the waters edge with excellant views of the bay and boats. The 96 steps down from where the car is parked are worth it.

  • Great house in a very quiet and remote place. We wish we could stay longer. Some great walks accessible within 15 minutes drive from the house (we did Eatwell's lookout - highly recommend). The house is very comfortable and well equipped. The hosts are very attentive (washing machine issue was dealt with very promptly). Be aware the house is 1:15 hrs drive from the nearest shop (wasn't a problem for us).

    Jakub2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed for 4 nights with my mum (visiting from the UK) & 4 month old baby. Wish we could have stayed longer! Jenny & Brian answered all of our contacts promptly & check in & out process was very simple. The drive in has lots of twists & turns but is stunning. Although the bach is fairly remote, cellphone signal is great & we spent some time at both Portage & Punga resorts which were lovely. We also walked a few sections of the Queen Charlotte Track, which was a short drive away. The property has a well stocked kitchen with everything we needed & the living areas were great. The best part? The view is as it looks on the listing- floor to ceiling awesomeness.

Property located between Te Mahia and Portage resorts. Close to a private breach, just a 3 minute drive to the Portage resort & the entrance to the Queen Charlotte Track near Toria Bay. Our place has a well equipped modern kitchen and well furnished living area. Two toilets and two bathrooms (both with showers) & four bedrooms, so ideal for family groups. A new heat pump was installed in 2018 & is very effective at maintaining the temperature all year round.
Arrive and relax. The spacious sun drenched deck has amazing views of the Kenepuru Sounds. The windout shade sail provides much needed shade to the deck in the summer. The section is large and covered in native bush, so there is plenty to explore for the kids. There is a small sleepout behind the house which is great for the kids to explore. A number of friendly Weka who have taken up residence on the property and keep the children entertained with their antics. Walk down a native bush track to a private beach cove where you can swim, launch your kayak to explore, or fish off the rocks. We have ample parking up the driveway and there is a decent sized turnaround bay at the end of the street for larger vehicles. Our neighbours on either side are permanent residents and retired to this beautiful spot to enjoy the quiet life. Thanks for your consideration.
  • An awesome spot to stay, house is lovely and warm (or cool, when outside is hot!) the birdsong was magical, cicada hunting with our two year old very fruitful and the little beach a very nice place to spend time.

  • Richard & Claire's house is a great place to spend some great family time. It is very well situated in the sound so that you can enjoy the view and spend some time in a little cove just outside the house and down a short path. The large deck is great to enjoy a good meal together. The house is perfectly clean and has got everything you need. Just remember to shop for groceries as the closest shop is in Havelock.

The yurt and facility is an experience in itself, in the middle of beatiful surroundings with exotic birds and a breathtaking evening and night sky. Ian took us to see glow worms, it was one of the most spectacular moments of our NZ trip - maybe ever!

  • Kate and Ian's place is truly amazing. You stay in a yurt where you have every comfort but can hear the wekas and the crickets. Your every need has been carefully catered for in a fully equipped camp kitchen and outdoor shower with really hot water. Just be aware that if you're staying as part of the QCT there is a 30minute walk down a steep hill - keep an eye on those yellow ties!

  • Ngahere Hou is set in a rerehua (beautiful) place in the Sounds - Kenepuru Head. We reached Ngahere Hou by coming off the Queen Charlottes Track at Camp Bay catching the Cougar Line. We had started at Ships Cove a couple of days prior but I had unfortunately injured myself (new boots - bad decision) and desperately needed to rest before getting back on the line. Ian and Kate were an absolute delight and quickly adapted to our last minute change in schedule, they kindly collected us from Torea Bay. We were expecting to arrive a little later in the day and to hike down their newly opened pathway off the QCT. We did get to achieve hiking their pathway back up when we left, or well one of us did - Ian and Kate kindly dropped me to Cow Shed our next camp ground the following day - granting me a second day of rest which was so generous and helped me immensely. Immediately we fell in love with the area, the Summer House and what Ngahere Hou has to offer. We truly appreciate Ian and Kate's hard work to create such a beautiful and serene home filled with life, laughter and beauty. When you stand on the land - you will feel its taonga. It will call to you... Due to our change in plans it meant we were able to take time to explore the waters edge in Kenepuru Bay and the hot tub after dinner. Ngahere Hou is in a unique position, being able to recharge yourself half way through the Queen Charlottes Track is a must and we recommend it highly. Ngahere Hou truly enhanced our experience of the Sounds and to Ian and Kate we commend you for creating such an amazing space. We enjoyed Ian's yummy pizza's and were able to celebrate our wedding anniversary in style - consuming the view and amazing sunset. We highly recommend a visit to Ngahere Hou. It's an amazing place to be, we can't wait to return and immerse ourselves more into what is on offer.

  • Ian was very welcoming despite my grumpiness when I first arrived. The property is intriguing and I especially enjoyed the hot tub in the early morning with the birds singing around me. The outdoor shower, homemade bread and croissants and location made it a unique place to stay. However be warned! If you are coming off the track it is a very, very long steep descent (and ascent the following morning) which challenged me after an already long day tramping.

    Nicky2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place mid Queen Charlotte track.

    Lars2019-11-30T00:00:00Z

  • I cannot rate Ngahere Hou high enough. Ian and Kate have created such a relaxing, restorative space, with so many thoughtful touches. A visit in winter was super warm and cosy, while still capturing the beautiful outdoors and nature of the Sounds. I would highly recommend a visit and cannot wait to go back myself!

This is a cosy, comfortable and family friendly ‘Kiwi’ Bach, situated only 30m from a beautiful beach. The beach is a fantastic playground, always changing with the flux and flow of the tide. A safe swimming beach and numerous options for fun activities; kayaking, paddle boarding, rock climbing to name just a few! Or, take it easy, sunbathing with a good book. The Bach with its modern conveniences and old school charm, provides a retreat into nature in a relaxed, simple and stress-free way.
Accessible by car or boat, with a mooring available (max 7m boat) and multiple car spaces. It is 1hr 20 mins from Blenheim and 1hr 40 mins from Nelson by car. The track from the parking deck winds down 120m to the Bach and is in good condition. This is a non-serviced accommodation so a full clean on departure is expected, please leave it as you found it. BYO linen and towels. We have a detailed information guide in PDF (prior to your arrival) and as a hard copy at the Bach.
Te Mahia Lodge – shop, cafe, beach, 5 min drive. Portage – restaurant, 10 min drive. Mistletoe Bay - shop, eco village/accommodation, walks, beach, 5 min drive. Linkwater pub, shop, garage, 40 min drive. Havelock - marina, shopping, fuel, cafes, bakery, walks, 50 min drive. Picton - marina, shopping, cafes, bakery, restaurants, walks, tourism office, Sounds tours, 1 hr drive.
  • This place is amazing - it has access to a beautiful beach shared by only around three houses. A kayak, rowboat, paddleboard and floaties were all available for us to use. The house is a classic kiwi bach with an amazing view and all the essentials we needed, and the drive from Picton only took around an hour on a well-maintained (but very winding!) road. Aside from the beach and the bush, there's nothing much in the area, which is exactly what we wanted. Thanks again for having us!

PARADISE found in QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND. Our kiwi slice of PARADISE in WHATAMANGO Bay is approx. 15 minutes drive from Picton (sealed road). Pip & Craig's home is a pole house in the trees on the beach. The Bay is very quiet, with native trees to the waterline, fur seals, rare native birds, a sting ray breeding ground & lots more. To explore this, we provide at no charge sea kayaks & safety gear, & as one of your hosts Craig, is a retired NZ National Park Ranger, advice if required.
As a guest, our home provides you with your own delightful bedroom, with views out to the native bush canopy. There is a lovely spacious dedicated guest lounge, with two comfortable chairs, a coffee table, a piano and native bush views. The dedicated bathroom is large and spacious, with a shower, basin and a bath. There is also a closet and shelves for guests. Meals - Please note: 1. Guests staying with us get a complementary breakfast, full cooked or continental. 2. Any other meals are recommended to be off premise in Picton (just 15 minutes drive away). For stays of longer than 3 nights, dinner can be catered for / or self prepared, by prior agreement with Craig or Pip. Our home in Whatamango Bay is located in a bay that has been an important place for Maori for more than 600 years. Our home in Maori is our Tūrangawaewae (literally tūranga (standing place), waewae (feet), it is often translated as ‘a place to stand’. Tūrangawaewae are places where we feel especially empowered and connected. They are our foundation, our place in the world, our home.) The bay has a powerful force of wairua (a positive spirit). The bay is a fertile bay, with abundant sea life (kai moana) and a safe haven from the weather. The house itself is surrounded by native bush, creating a haven from the outside world. With a perfect little stream on one side of our home, the forest behind us and the sea just in front of us..it is TRULY PARADISE! Walk through the garden gate to the Department of Conservation reserve and the water in just a minute. There are great walks in and around our bay. You can even borrow a fishing rod and bait from Craig & catch some decent eating fish, if that's your thing. Or swing gently in one of the hammock chairs on the deck, listening to the birds in the trees, the bees in the garden, and inhale the fresh sea air. It's your choice to explore or relax as you like. inside the house there is a separate guest lounge connected to the guest bedroom where you can spread yourself out and have your own space. The house has good wifi, which is complementary & we also have great "Vodafone" / "2 Degree's" - 4G/3G coverage, depending on where in the house or property you are. FYI, Craig is a IT/Mobile/Broadband/Smartphone techy, so if you need help with set up etc, just ask.
Our bay is such a special place. It's close to Picton for your coffee fix, your bakery fix, a grocery shop at Fresh Choice or our wonderful library. Then there are all the great walks within our bay or around Picton or further afield. Just ask your host Craig, he will give you maps, advice, suggestions and his favourite special places. We also have fully kitted out Sea Kayaks, with their own stow-able wheels, with life jackets, wet suit boots & a guest Personal Locator Beacon. These are all provided FREE OF CHARGE. At the bottom of our garden, there is a gate, which the kayaks pass through and it's just 50 or so metres to the beach. Our house is situated in Whatamango Bay, next to a DOC reserve and across the road from a farm. There are around 25 houses (about half are holiday homes) in the immediate area, but our home has only one house next to it which is a bach (holiday home) - so it's super quiet. And because there's so few people live out here, there's no light pollution and the night sky is spectacular. On a still night you can hear the Morepork calling up the valley, and the cows across the road. A short paddle in the kayak brings you to Ahuriri Bay, which is a breeding ground for sting rays. There's something magical about drifting along with the rays gliding serenely below your kayak....
  • Expect a genuine warm welcome here. This bay is a slice of paradise. Your host has so much knowledge to share with you. You need to spend time here. Great cooked breakfast included. Thank you from your “pommeranian” mates! Xx

  • Wonderful location. This is a rare opportunity to stay with very welcoming and generous hosts who share their home. Also the bonus of an idyllic kayak in the bay. Highly recommended by us as frequent users of Airbnb.

Welcome to our paradise, Hopewell has been a guest house since the 1950's, with a stunning waterfront location in the pristine Kenepuru Sound. Set on 40 hectares of native bush, here you can escape from the maddening crowds and enjoy New Zealand's beautiful natural environment. Hopewell has a fantastic set up with an fully equipped large modern guest kitchen, dining areas, lounge, BBQ area, decks, garden seating, beaches, walks and lots of recreational equipment, kayaks, bikes, fishing & SUP's.
Hopewell is an multi-award winning lodge, famous for its incredible location, fantastic facilities and genuine New Zealand hospitality. We can accommodate up to 20 people in a number of cottages. Hopewell is the perfect retreat for relaxing and chilling out, lazing around in the hammocks or soaking in the hot tub. Beautiful gardens, great coastline to explore and collect local shellfish. You can enjoy walking, kayaking, fishing, swimming and so much more. There is even a wonderful golf course down the road. There is water taxi access to the Queen Charlotte Track if you would like to do a days walk, or get picked up from our jetty and join the famous Pelorus Mail Boat run into the outer Sounds. Enjoy chatting to other travelers and kiwis that often come to stay or there is plenty of space if you just want some down time. Rooms are all well appointed with brand new beds and crisp linen, the kitchen is a chefs dream with excellent ovens, fridges, pots and pans, sharp knives and great crockery etc. And if you fancy a night off cooking we do offer gourmet pizzas, homemade bread and espresso coffees. All you need to bring is food and a smile.
Hopewell is nestled in native bush beside the sea, our nearest neighbours are a kilometer away. There is a great restaurant in the bay next door which is about a 10 minute walk, they are open from November to April. The local golf course is the pride and joy of our community. The Kenepuru Sound is very remote and there are only about 60 people living on our side of the Sound. A great place to get away from it all! Peace and quiet and a beautiful natural environment, you have to see it to believe it. Famous for its mussel farming and snapper fishing and the Queen Charlotte Track.
  • This place is legit! The perfect place to relax and unwind. It's a very social place where you meet characters from all over the world, but Lynley and Mike have also made sure there is always a place to be alone so you can relax if wanted. The rooms are great, neat and tidy and very homely. The kitchen and dining room is amazing and best of all Lynley makes the best coffee and pizzas in the greater area with ease! We will be back one day. Thanks again

    Ashley2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic getaway in the Marlborough sounds with superb hosts. Highly recommended.

  • This is a great wonderful place to relax and enjoy the sounds. My favourite :go swimming early in the morning wirh the sunrise and afterwards hop in the Spa with fantastic view. I will definitely come back. One of my favorite places in NZL... And I have been here five times already

    Anke2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing and authentic care and hospitality. From the welcome cuppa until the final farewell this is a magical place where you can cast your worries and get grounded again. There is healing in the air and water.

    Jonny2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect slice of heaven Lynley and Mike have created at Hopewell. Everything you could want and more here...apart from the absolutely stunning scenery we enjoyed the kayaking, paddle boarding, walks and hot spa. Only wish we could have stayed longer to partake in the fishing! A really well-thought out place and an incredibly well-equipped kitchen for meal preparation. The lounge area was also super cosy - a great place to hang out with other guests. Oh and a special mention for the homemade pizzas and bread which Lynley prepares daily are absolutely scrumptious!!!

    Claire2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding, we would highly recommend! The whole stay was utterly perfect. We will definitely go back!

    Emily2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Hopewell Lodge is amazing! It is a long drive, but you can get picked up halfway and take the boat across. We were welcomed with coffee and cake on the lawn and we even add an amazing Mussel feast one evening with everyone. Lynley was incredibly welcoming and thoughtful. The location is incredible. The kitchen was so well equipped that it made cooking fun! The surrounding area is like no other and to be able to bike, hike, kayak or paddle around made it even more special. Could not recommend it highly enough. It is must visit if you can.

    Julia2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is different. Don't be put off by the fact that it's a little off the beaten track because it is more than worth the effort. In fact, I think that this is one of the reasons (Though certainly not the main reason) that the whole experience is so amazing - everyone at Hopewell, guests and staff, wants to be there. The main reason for a lovely holiday at a really lovely, quiet, beautiful and well equipped lodge becoming something exceptional is the hospitality and warmth fostered by the hosts Lynley and Mike. The glowing atmosphere is absolutely contagious right from the welcome, with guests and staff interacting with each other like family at a long overdue reunion in all of the plentiful common areas, well into the night. There are plenty of great options for outdoor activities provided for a modest fee and you will almost always find someone else willing to accompany you if you wish or ask (We were there when it was fairly busy). The same goes for conversation at dinner or around the fire on the terrace in the evenings. Of course, you can always choose to have a lovely, quiet experience away from all that if you so desired because that is perfectly possible at Hopewell too. But you might find yourself drawn into it anyway by the resonating warmth of your hosts amd the staff - This certainly happened to me. I wish I had realised when I booked and stayed a little longer than 3 nights because it was very hard to leave. Thanks again Lynley and Mike. See you soon! PS I can't recommend swimming in the sound at sunrise highly enough! Don't worry, the spa is a stone's throw from the jetty anyway.

Off-the-grid private home with beautiful views of St Omer Bay. Accessible by car from Havelock (2 hrs) , by boat/water taxi from Havelock (25 mins) or Te Mahia or by plane from Nelson or Wellington. PLEASE READ OTHER THINGS TO NOTE SECTION BEFORE BOOKING. Beginning April 2020, the home will have both solar, batteries and a generator. Everything is automatic so you will flip switches and use power just as you would at home. Pet fee $75
A DAY AT ST. OMER’S When you wake up on Day One, take a moment to take in the silence. St. Omer Hideout’s remote location is blessed with a deep, natural quiet. Every once in a while—maybe 10 or 15 times a day—you’ll hear a car winding its way down Kenepuru Road, but it’s a distant sound. (Though it's remote, St. Omer’s Hideout is not a place for loud music or parties. Sound does travel here and we want to preserve the quiet and be good neighbors.) Two of the bedrooms—one with a queen-size bed and one with a full— present show-stopping views of St. Omer Bay and Kenepuru Sound and balcony access. The third bedroom is kid-friendly with bunk beds and no balcony or water view. The shared bath, in typical New Zealand style, features a toilet (water closet) in one room and a sink and shower in a separate room.  Photos get you part of the way to understanding how dazzling the view is, but seeing it in person is a whole other story. Spend a few hours on the wraparound deck with a glass of local wine, blue skies above and jewel-tone water below, and you’ll be made new.   Open the retractable patio doors in the living area and let in the fresh morning breeze. Brew a French press coffee and cook up some local eggs in the modern kitchen. Side note: There are no stores or fuel stations in Kenepuru Sound, so you’ll want to stock up on groceries before you get here (or have them delivered). We provide some dry goods including paper towels and toilet tissue, but you may wish to bring some with you just in case. We will provide info as to how to order groceries online and have them delivered. Despite the home's remote location, there is a surprising number of things to do nearby. Sightseeing by water taxi. Mussel farm tours. Exploratory trips on the Mailboat. Sailing charters. Kayaking, fishing, biking (and many other verbs). Hiking the Queen Charlotte Track. Golf at Nopera. Scenic flights via Pelorus Air. Try to make it back in time for sunset on the balcony. But if you miss it, don't worry—the sunrises are equally awe-inspiring and will be waiting for you in the morning.

  • There was a point in time during our drive to St Omer where we left the world behind. Parking at the base of the driveway we where struck by the sheer slope of the hill we where to climb. Reaching the top was well worth the trek the view was breathtaking our eyes took in the wide open natural surrounds of the Bay. During our stay we unwound, relaxed and rejuvenated our spirits. We had a wonderful stay at Elizabeths place.

  • Really enjoyed our stay. amazing views and a comfortable space to unwind. the driveway is incredibly steep and a tough walk up but worth it for the view from the top. Tip: Bring loads of ice for the chilly bin. 10/10 highly recommended

The view from their home is phenomenal and they even had Weka visit the back yard! We really enjoyed our stay, thank you for having us! P.s to those booking in the future, organise your boat travel BEFORE booking the property, it’s more expensive to charter private boats in the evenings.

  • According to my family I am rarely speechless. But that was the effect of arriving in what must be one of the most unique environments you could ever have the good fortune and privilege to experience, and then we went inside, to a home that offered such a sence of comfort, space and mind boggling views. If the opportunity arrises, just go.

  • Spectacular. Words cannot properly express how incredible this wee place is. Gorgeous traditional kiwi Bach, complete with outdoor loo, chatty cicadas and crystal clear ocean right outside. This is definitely an exquisite place to experience the Marlborough Sounds. Tamsin was an excellent host providing a few helpful amenities and info on local places to visit. Will definitely stay again in the future.

  • A wonderful Xmas stay in the Marlborough Sounds. If you really want to relax and unwind this is a. amazing place to do it. The space is perfect with all you need for a simple beachside stay. The deck and views from are so beautiful. We spent many hours sitting on the comfy outdoor furniture just watching the scenery and changing light. Pretty cool to be able to tie up our kayaks and go out on the water when it suited. Loved watching the stingrays and kayaking in the nighttime phosphorescence. Was a magical place to be and we were pretty sad to have to leave. We will be back. Thanks

The perfect private waterfront location for your weekend getaway (you’ve earned it), family retreat or honeymoon. If you’re looking for a tranquil setting, with a semi-private beach and a big sunny deck, this house has all that and more. The views are too good not to be shared on Instagram Pack a rod and cast a lure off your private jetty with a floating platform at the end and try your luck at catching a fresh dinner, or even pick a few mussels to have on the BBQ while watching the sunset
Private entrance & parking with easy access (no stairs). Master bedroom has super king size bed, second bedroom has queen & hallway room has a single bed.
  • It’s an awesome location and so close to Picton. Awesome views, I hope to return soon.

  • If your looking for a simple place with an incredible view of the Marlborough sounds then this is the place for you. Imagine sitting in the balcony reading a book, glass of wine and the view of a life time then stay here. Great place even for children and there is enough space for them to play in. A short walk down to a jetty at the beach too.

  • John's place at Whatamango Bay is in a magical location. Just 15-20 minutes out of Picton, but you're in your own world. We certainly didn't expect to have a private jetty out our doorstep - this was a wonderful surprise. Made even better by access to the kayaks. It's a beautiful safe bay to paddle or swim in. The driveway down to the property is a little scary, but that'll be long forgotten once you step out onto the deck, and take in the view. Make sure you have at least a day at the property to just enjoy all that's there.
