Check out the reviews for our light & comfortable Grade 11 listed Farmhouse on a rural family estate in the heart of Thomas Hardy country. Acres of grounds to explore including the safe south-facing enclosed garden with bbq, terrace & outside dining. Traditional farmhouse kitchen with Aga, 3 large reception rooms with wood burners. Beautiful walks, 15 mins from Jurassic coast. Loads to do in the area, footpaths and forest. Baby, child, & seniors friendly. Good dogs welcome, and loads of parking.
Our beautiful traditional Dorset farmhouse, comfortably sleeps 14, (plus babies under 2) and is set in large grounds, surrounded by rolling countryside. Located in the heart of Hardy Country and 15-20 minutes from the sea, it's the perfect location for a fabulous family celebration or holiday. England's first natural World Heritage Site; The Jurassic Coast, with its huge range of interesting beaches, is less than 20 minutes away. Bring your mountain bikes to follow the Puddletown Forest trails, half a mile from the house. Enjoy BBQ and cream-teas in the garden or hire a private chef to cook for you in our large country-style kitchen, complete with Aga. Dine in style at the Charles II table in the warm turquoise dining room, with portraits of our eccentric ancestors! Outside: play with our giant pik-a-stix, croquet, cricket, rounders & boules, or kick a football into the GOAL NET. (Please bring your own favourite ball). Indoors there's a library of contemporary reference, fiction, & DVDs, good wifi, a mini SNOOKER table, and a chest full of board games, Twister, jigsaws & chess. On chilly nights light the wood-burners in both the large sitting rooms, and snuggle down into our comfy, cosy sofas. Or use our collection of sheet music to play the piano, and recorder, and have a sing-song!
The Farmhouse is set in open countryside in its own grounds, far from the minor road, with three cottages some 300 yards away. It is one mile's walk (or two miles' drive) to Puddletown, which has an excellent gastropub The Blue Vinney (with playground), a Doctor's surgery, a vet, lovely church, a new eco-friendly village playground and tennis court and excellent butcher/post office/general store. Dorchester (6 miles) has Tesco, Waitrose, M&S and the usual range of shops as well as several rainy day attractions for the kids.
  • We had a wonderful stay at Ilsington Farmhouse. A great space for a big group. We especially loved having the fire lit in the library, ensuring cosy evenings. The house was very clean. Cot provided was very helpful. Communication before and during our stay was excellent. Would recommend and hope to stay again soon!

  • Brilliant house for accommodating my husbands birthday party. Beautiful house..Spacious, clean and in a beautiful part of the countryside. Perfect for families with kids toys, crockery, cutlery, bath toys. Lovely homely reception rooms and dining room and a very well catered kitchen. All the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. We shall definitely be back!

  • We had a 3-generation family stay between Christmas and New Year, and for us the house was perfect. Communication and thoughtful touches were exceptional, and we would love to return. Thank you.

Middle Cottage has three bedrooms with a lounge on the ground floor with a breakfast bar. Shower room on the ground floor with another wc upstairs. Basic accommodation generally used for school groups for field trips. No school groups will be at New Barn during your stay. No Kitchen. Set in the middle of 20 acres of our wildflower meadows and woodland, on top of a hill overlooking stunning dorset landscape, yet only 5 mins to Dorchester.
Extremely quite and mellow, with lots of footpaths for country walks, yet the busy seaside town of Weymouth is only 30 mins away or for more serious shopping Bournemouth is around an hour away and Southampton just beyond that.
  • Fantastic place! The animals are amazing - check out the iron age hut. So cool. Highly recommended and great value.

  • Brilliant stay! Matt was a great host, very responsive and welcoming. Exactly as it was advertised and ideal for our stay.

  • Easy to talk to. Very welcomong. Does what it says on the tin!

    Taimoor2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation and Matt are brilliant, I definitely recommend it for travellers looking for a spot off the road

    Arnaud2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect stopover if you are walking the Frome Valley Way. The Field Centre is a really interesting place - we took a peek around the Iron Age village in the morning before we left. The accommodation is advertised as without kitchen but it does have one with fridge, kettle, sink, toaster and microwave (no hob) - great for rustling up a quick brekky. The local pub is a gem.

    Jon2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing little place in a gorgeous location. Mathew was amazing at welcoming us and letting us visit the farm as well as feed the animals. This was perfect as a stop on the way back from Cornwall but we d definitely recommend over the summer for a longer stay. Great pub close by!

    Celine2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay for a large family and ideally located for exploring the Jurassic coast.

    Alan2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Matthew's place whilst attending a wedding and it was perfect! The setting was beautiful, the accommodation itself was basic but exactly as described and extremely good value. We really enjoyed meeting the piglets, sheep, goats, and llamas. Matthew gave us a brilliant local recommendation for a pub. We had a great time.

Simple self-contained annexe attached to Grade II listed country house built 1840. Requisitioned by Canadians in World War II for D-Day landings. A peaceful retreat in the village of Osmington, Dorset. Very near the Southwest coastal footpath and the famous Jurassic coastline. Large garden available to enjoy. Minimum stay 2 nights. Not suitable for children under 5.
The whole space is self contained and has its own entrance. This is through the white gate at the top in photograph 6 showing side view of Artist's Retreat. Car parking available for 2/4 cars in front of the owner's house. The road leading up and out of the Annexe is a hard track - see photos. The main bedroom has a double bed looking out over garden. To enter the main bedroom you have to go through the space which has the 2 single beds. Bathroom is in a separate private space next to both bedrooms, and has a shower, loo and washbasin. Please note this property is NOT suitable for toddlers. (ie between the ages of one and five).
Quiet village location where the painter Sir John Constable honeymooned and painted. Close to many beautiful locations to interest the Thomas Hardy enthusiast including the cottage where he was born. It is located deep in the woods which are covered with bluebells around Easter. Many of the places mentioned below such as Maiden Castle and Weymouth Bay were used in the Julie Christie version of Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy. Stunning walks along Jurassic coast are easily accessible. You can head off on foot from Artist's Retreat and spend the day walking to and from Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove ( see photos). Swimming is also possible from various locations along the route. Osmington Mills is the nearest access to sea - 15 min walk from house or 3 mins by car. It also offers the Smugglers Inn where lunches and suppers are served. For others restaurants research Weymouth and Portland. The Oasis Cafe, 10mins drive away towards Weymouth and right on the beach does breakfast, brunch, lunch and suppers (weekends only). Wind and kite surfers use this beach to launch from. There is a good fish and chip shop (takeaway) called Stacey's, 5 mins drive away just down the main road at the bottom of the hill with the white horse etched out on the hillside. The Crab Shack Cafe close to Portland offers a more expensive fresh seafood meal (advisable to book). Weymouth Harbour which is very pretty and often hosts interesting old sailing boats offers other restaurants varying in price, including a Prezzos and fish and chips. It was also used in the 2017 film version of Dunkirk. Dorchester (20 mins drive) is another popular place to eat and has a Carluccios, Pizza Express, Cote and Wagamamas in the Old Brewery. For a 'vintage' and very friendly experience try Re-Loved on the main shopping street. Further afield is Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River cafe near Axminster (advisable to book) but make a day out and visit Lyme Regis or Mapperton House (where the Cary Mulligan/Far from the Madding crowd was filmed) on the way. Beaminster near Bridport has the lovely Brassica restaurant which has excellent food at good prices (advisable to book). The South West Coast Path can be started from Osmington Mills if wished or Ringstead. One swiftly mounts to the higher and more dramatic cliffs at Whitenothe and then on to Bat's Head, Durdle Door and Lulworth. As a cliff walk it is without equal, an absolute roller coaster that gets even better to the east of Lulworth Cove which is owned by the MOD. (Before heading east of Lulworth make sure that the Lulworth Gunnery Range is open to the public. It is safe to walk when the red flags are not flying - ie. most weekends). The horseshoe hollow of Worbarrow Bay is every bit as lovely as Lulworth, after which the Purbeck coast throws up one surprise after another. First, the gaunt crags of Gad Cliff; then Kimmeridge and its marine reserve, followed by the Norman chapel on St Aldhelm’s Head and the tide-washed terraces of Dancing Ledge. And finally, beyond Swanage, the procession of sculpted cliffs and towering chalk stacks known as Old Harry Rocks, marking the end of the Jurassic Coast. Ringstead Bay is 10 mins drive or 30 mins walk away with a little basic cafe and shop. (charges for parking). This also has a launch/beach for small sailing craft, kayaks, windsurfers and kite surfers. You can swim from Ringstead and the sea sometimes offers waves for surfers. For more surfing look to Kimmeridge. Most of the coast nearby offers beautiful swimming in its clean waters and the host can recommend advice on safety and areas which are more isolated. Weymouth Sands beach offers the Blue Flag clean and very safe lifeguarded bay where King George III bathed and along the front is Lawrence of Arabia's favourite bar. He would drive from his house, Clouds Hill at Moreton (NT property), and park his 998cc Brough Superior "Rolls Royce of motorcycles" outside the Royal Hotel. Weymouth has a very pretty Georgian frontage where one can walk along the promenade and appreciate a classic 'Punch and Judy' experience on a small scale. There are less crowded areas such as the Greenhill area near the Sealife Centre where children and adults can swim and play in the sand (just a little distance up from Weymouth Sands). It also has lifeguards and in the summer two swimming rafts. For teenage boys/girls there is a skatepark near the Sea Life Centre( charges). In Dorchester the skatepark if free. Sailing (including boat hire and lessons) is available at the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy which staged the 2012 Sailing Olympics. It is located along the road to Portland. Portland harbour is a favourite for windsurfers. Portland is an interesting area. Its charm is not instantly appreciated but in May and June the walk along the cliffs is lovely with its wild flowers, peregrine falcons and coastal views. In high winds at Portland Bill Lighthouse (open to the public) as the sea crashes against its famous stone cliffs one has an opportunity to behold the power of the sea and be given a guaranteed thrill. You can swim at Church Ope cove and a genuine pirates gravestone with its carved hourglass can be found on the walk down. The water in the cove has a unique cloudy turquoise blue colour due to the white stoned sea floor. The Chesil Beach which joins the mainland at Weymouth to the Isle of Portand is one of the geological wonders of the world. The enormous bank of pebble beach is worth the climb and again is exhilarating in high winds. It is majestic in its size and sweep and quite something to experience. Drive to the Portland Heights Hotel to see it from above and melt into the distance towards West bay and Lyme Regis. The Fleet which is a desolate lagoon runs along the coast behind the Chesil beach has another unique atmosphere. It leads to places such as Abbotsbury with its 14th century Chapel and Tithe Barn (largest in England), Swannery and Sub-Tropical gardens which are all places worth seeing, especially at Easter when the camellias and rhododendrons are out. Seeing the baby swans and eggs in the Spring is very exciting and fun for all ages. For fossil hunters and lovers of The French Lieutenant's Woman Lyme Regis makes for a lovely day out with its famous stone cobb and walk along its romantic undercliff. Chideock and Charmouth are the places to find fossils. Maiden Castle is an Iron Age Hill fort just outside Dorchester. See it for its size as it is the largest in Europe. Children of all ages enjoy climbing its enormous dips and hollows. Many people find Bovington Tank Museum interesting, exciting and useful on a wet day. It is not far away and just above Lulworth Cove. Finally, Craigs Dairy is a walk up the drive and across the main road from the Artist's Retreat where one can buy a takeaway cup of fresh coffee, fresh meat, milk, eggs and other food necessities. It also offers a tearoom, Farm Shop and their own dairy made ice-cream. For other shops there is a small Co-op and Spa in Preston down towards Weymouth (5 mins). An Asda near the harbour, a big Co-op near Littlemoor, a Morrisons in Weymouth on the Dorchester road and a Waitrose in Dorchester.
  • Fantastic retreat within walking distance of the sea! Beautiful area with endless walks and other things to do. We really enjoyed our stay and took Charlotte's advice to visit Smuggler's Inn, which offered great food and an impromptu pub quiz! Recommended!

  • A great location and perfect retreat. Facilities are excellent and we did plenty of our own cooking - the kitchen is really well stocked with everything you need and the fireplace makes it all very cosy. Charlotte was very responsive, welcomed us warmly and was really accommodating to our specific requests. Thanks for a great stay.

    Patrick2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • By far Charlotte’s place was one of the most beautiful spaces I have ever stayed in. A perfect haven away from the city rush, it has everything one needs with the addition of a lovely little wood burner to complete the cosiness. Recommend coming here by car because of the location as it’s happily tucked away but naturally this is a good idea as it makes visiting the local highlights more convenient when you do. Charlotte was very prompt with her communication and offers very good recommendations upon your arrival. Hope very much to return one day.

  • Lovely, simple space which is spotlessly clean. A great base to explore the fantastic coastline of Dorset. Charlotte was very welcoming, and the woodburning stove very welcome. Would recommend.

  • Charlotte's house was very nice and clean. It had a very cute mini fireplace which was super good for the cold November nights we stayed there, as the living room got warm very quickly. Charlotte was a very friendly host. She responded to our questions very quickly. We recommend her place.

    Melis2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little place to stay. Well located. Cosy, clean and comfortable. The wood burning stove kept us warm in the living area, but the bedrooms are centrally heated and definitely warm enough even though it was pretty chilly outside. The kitchen is simple but we had everything we needed to cook. Charlotte was really helpful and friendly, particularly when we got a bit lost trying to find the place! Thanks for a lovely stay.

  • I've now stayed with Andy three or four times and enjoyed it every time. It's close to the centre of Dorchester, a few minutes walking distance but at the same time calm and quiet. Andy is also very well informed about Dorchester and Dorset and it's been a pleasure talking to him and having the benefit of this knowledge.

    David2018-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at Andrew's cosy home. Filled with great books and a very comfortable bed. Andrew was very friendly and hospitable and gave me lots of local tips.

Self contained, self catering studio annex based in the county town of Dorchester. The towns amenities are all within short walking distance, including the new 'Brewery Square' development. Great base to explore Dorset's fabulous coast, countryside and walk in the footsteps of Thomas Hardy's Casterbridge. Motorbike friendly, high chair & travel cot available. Complimentary tea and coffee. Netflix TV.
The annex is situated in our garden but is separate from the house with it's own front door, so you will have privacy and the ability to come and go as you please. The annex is a prefect place for 2 adults to relax but there is also space to put up a travel cot (which we can supply). We can also supply a highchair. Patio doors lead to a private decking area with table and chairs. There are also steps leading down to our established south facing garden which guests are welcome to use. The annex is equipped with a fully functional kitchen with an integrated fridge freezer, combination microwave oven and 2 ring electric hob. There is also a separate shower room. If you need use of a washing machine/tumble drier, we would be happy for you to use ours. The annex has central heating which is linked to our house, but there is also an electric fire. We have a friendly cat named Polly who you may see around the garden!
Quiet location, found in central Dorchester in a tree lined Avenue. Close enough to central Dorchester but also close enough to beautiful walks and cycle routes.

  • Great place to stay in Dorchester. Lovely and clean. off road parking. Very helpful and friendly hosts. Lovely place to visit.

    Philip2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here for a weekend with my wife and 9 month old baby and it was perfect for us. Darren & Wing had thought of everything and were so friendly and welcoming. We could tell they really care and appreciate the people who stay. Check in and check out was a breeze, they were there for both but had already advised us of what to do if they weren't. The place was lovely, absolutely immaculate and looked to have been decorated recently. Highchair and travel cot were available on request which was a nice touch! Everything we could have needed was available in the kitchen, with instructions available for the appliances if required. If you don't want to cook then you don't have to worry, as they had put together a guide of places to dine locally, whether it's eat out or takeaway. The location is ideal, about a 10 minute walk from Brewery Square where there's loads of places to eat and about 1 mile from Tesco. All in all had everything we needed so will definitely stay here again next time we are in the area.

Fab location right in the centre of Dorchester, loads of places to eat and only 20 mins to the stunning Dorset coastline. Highly recommend

  • Lovely little place within walking distance of everything. I loved the walk along the Frome. Everything was clean and well organised, and even though it is quite small, we managed two people, two suitcases and a clothes horse full of washing without much difficulty. Would recommend

Welcome to the Trevally Room. We are Jess and Ash, and we have recently rebuilt our home 'Copperstones'. It really has been a labour of love, so we are excited to now be offering AirBNB in our spare bedrooms since spring 2019. We are located just 8 miles from Weymouth and the stunning Jurassic coastline. Dorchester itself is a friendly county town with a range of restaurants and bars, as well as fantastic transport links within walking distance of our home, to Bristol, Bath, London, etc.
The guest accommodation is all on the ground floor. The large double bedroom has a king-sized futon-style bed with extra-deep mattress, plenty of storage furniture, TV and tea-coffee making facilities. The interior decoration is classic yet modern, painted in calming Farrow and Ball colours. The main bathroom is next door to the bedroom and is for your exclusive use. Features include a large roll-top tin bath (definitely big enough for two!) and huge walk-in wet-room, along with a roll-top tin sink and toilet. Please note that there is a single step into the bathroom. There is also a cloakroom next door to your bathroom, containing an additional (shared) toilet. We supply a breakfast bag every morning of your stay, delivered to your room. This contains (for each person) a piece of fresh fruit, a bottle of fresh juice or breakfast smoothie, and a granola bar/yoghurt and granola pot/porridge pot or similar. Please note that this is not a self-catering listing. General access to our living room/kitchen/dining room is not included in your booking unless you would like to pay additional charges to dine with us - if so, please message us in advance of your stay to arrange. If you prefer something cooked in the morning, there are plenty of wonderful breakfast options in the nearby town (5-10 mins walk away). We can also recommend plenty of lovely eateries and local pubs, and your room will hold information about transport routes and things to do while you are in West Dorset. You can find all this information in advance of your stay in our ‘Copperstones Guidebook’, found within this listing. Please Note - At the time of writing this (December 2019) we are still in the process of landscaping the exterior of our property, including our front drive. This means that our outdoor spaces are not finished yet, so please be aware of this. We don't think they will impact negatively on your stay, particularly if you are coming to Dorset to get out and about and explore, or for work purposes. However, if you are wanting to simply laze about in a garden, we will not be your ideal choice. We feel it is important to be upfront with you about this. If you are unsure, please ask us. Your car can still be parked on our drive safely. If you are bringing more than one car, the roads outside our house offer free parking at all times.
Dorchester is a very up-and-coming county town, and the Brewery Square development offers some brilliant coffee shops, restaurants and bars. This is just a 5 minute walk away. From there you can also take the train to Weymouth which has a charming quay and long sandy beach, or the bus to Bridport, West Bay (home of the TV series Broadchurch) and Lyme Regis with it's windswept cob. We are in the heart of Hardy Country, with plenty of historic sights to visit, including Maumbury Rings (almost next door!), Maiden Castle, Thomas Hardy's cottage, Hardy's Monument, and the Cerne Abbas Giant. Train links can also take you to Poole, Bournemouth, Southampton, Bristol, Bath and beyond.
  • The venue was really amazing we love to spend lots of the time in the big bathroom! We fit both in the big bath tub that was really nice. Jess and Ash are very friendly and they thought about everything. Love to come back here

  • Jessies House was very comfortable and relaxing. They were very welcoming and helpful as soon as we got there and we very much enjoyed the added touches of the bath tub and the breakfast bag :).

  • Can’t recommend this place enough! Jess and Ash are brilliant hosts, friendly and welcoming and ready with helpful recommendations for meals out and sights to see in the local area. The house is absolutely stunning and the guest accommodation is to a very high standard. The bedroom is lovely, spacious and with a comfy bed. The bathroom was so amazing I could have happily lived in it! We were provided with breakfast bags each morning too, unusual for an air bnb and very gratefully received. Great location too, within easy walking distance from a variety of restaurants.

    Katie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jessie and Ash are the best hosts - really couldn't have asked for more, and hard to know where to begin in listing the virtues of this stay! Their home is truly beautiful, and the guest room is super clean, spacious, and really well equipped with a very comfy bed. Likewise the private bathroom and glorious bathtub!! Lots of thoughtful details included - they provided a breakfast bag of fruit, cereal bar and smoothie each morning too, and tweaked it for me, being vegan. Generous is the key word - and comes from Jessie and Ash themselves who are incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful and easy hosts. It's also a great, easy location, a few minutes walk from the train station and town, and a good base for sightseeing further afield too, even without transport. I could go on, but can't recommend highly enough - I hope to stay again, and thanks both for looking after me so well!

    Claire2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Jess and Ash are absolutely the best hosts I have ever encountered with Air BnB. From the warm welcome to the small thoughtful breakfast bags, nothing was too much trouble. Then you look at the actual house and accommodation! It’s outstanding! Would definitely stay again.

  • Very nice place to stay. Clean. Great hospitality. Stylish place. Highly recommended!

  • Jessie and Ash are an amazing host . From the cleanliness and good fragrance that welcomes you to the extra luxurious comfort the room offers . The ambience is excellent and location very central. Their hospitality arguably the best I have experienced and they are too kind and resourceful. Jessie and Ash made Dorchester memorable and indeed I plan to re visit just to experience all these again . This was a 7 star hospitality and they comfortably thick all the boxes . Thank you Jessie and Ash for having me in your home 🤗

Airy first floor double room in relaxed household. Coffee and tea making facilities available in room. Our home with lovely walled garden is nearly 300 years old and backs onto a park. Easy walking to town centre (5 mins) and to trains and buses ( 15 mins). Please note there is no parking at the house, but some free street parking and municipal carparks nearby. The sofabed is a narrow double - OK for two children or one adult. Shared bathroom and use of sauna included.
We've worked hard to make this rambling old house into a welcoming family home, with a huge farmhouse style kitchen at its heart and filled with curios from our travels. You can cosy up in front of a log burner in the winter, or enjoy a sauna during your stay, on request. We are vegetarians and keen walkers, happy to recommend local eateries, great Dorset countryside and coastal walks or beaches.
Fordington has a real village feel - old houses, church, corner shop and fish and chip shop around a village green with pretty trees- yet we can walk into town in 5 minutes! Dorchester is a lively county town within easy reach of stunning Dorset countryside and beautiful beaches.
  • It's really an amazing place. Very clean and beautiful room with kind host. Highly recommended to have a try if you are around Dorchester!

They provided us with a lovely breakfast in the morning. We’d love to stop by if we had the chance to visit Dorchester again!

  • This is a great value with a wonderful location if you are wanting to be near Poundbury. You really are at the heart of things and everything is walking distance. You can even walk from the train station over to their home. Li and her family (including the cat Marie) are wonderful hosts. They make room for your food. You get a bathroom to yourself. And they themselves could not be more inspirational and lovely people.

  • An ideal location for a perfect getaway with incredible views and beautiful walks. The dogs enjoyed it as much as we did! The hot tub overlooking the bay was definitely a highlight. Despite a few minor issues with the accommodation we had the most wonderful relaxing stay. The fireplace was perfect for the rainy nights and it was a very thoughtful touch to provide enough wood for our two-night stay. We would definitely return and would recommend a stay in this lovely place.

  • This Old Lookout is a very special place. We only stayed one night but Peter still put the spa on for us. And the star-gazing was amazing!

Comfortable double bedded room. The bathroom is "compact"! but it has a nice hot shower, and a bath. Use of kitchen opening out into the cottage garden, fresh eggs for breakfast when the hens are laying. Free WiFi We provide towels.
An old farm cottage, owned by The Duchy of Cornwall. The property is approximately 110 years old. Although the cottage is now surrounded by the development of Poundbury, it still retains the air of “ times past “ We keep chickens, which we like to let free range in the warm weather, 2 of them are ex battery hens, so they love their freedom. This obviously means, at times, there may be chicken poop in the garden. If you are offended by a this, please consider whether this is the place for you to stay! Like a lot of country Cottages access is via the side gate, and we always use the backdoor which leads you immediately into our kitchen. The bedroom has a double bed, heating and internet access. Tea/Coffee making facilities in room. NO SMOKING/VAPING IN THE ROOM
Poundbury has a small but very well stocked shop, and a Waitrose. There are 2 pubs The Poet Laureate, and The Duchess of Cornwall Inn. There are several cafes, restaurants Finca at The Buttermarket & The Café on the Green, Bonjour, Picolo Fiore For chocolate lover's, we have a chocolate factory a stones throw from our house where you can buy large bags of delicious chocolates! The newly completed Queen Mother Square, with cafes and The Duchess of Cornwall Inn (Hall & Woodhouse) is a grand addition to Poundbury, well worth a visit. Stand and admire the imposing statue of The Queen Mother , unveiled by Her Majesty The Queen, then you can pay a visit to the Hall & Woodhouse Inn The Duchess of Cornwall, and enjoy one of their craft beers brewed in their Blandford Brewery ( The Brewery is open to visitors) Dorchester is either a 20 minute walk or you can hop on the electric bus. There are 2 cinemas, and a plethora of cafes and restaurants. The new Brewery Square complex has something for everyone. Weymouth and its beautiful beaches is 7 miles away.
  • Katie and Pete were fantastic hosts! The place was clean, well-equipped, close proximity to town, and overall joyful. Their garden is so lovely. Katie and Pete were incredibly quick to respond and were very accommodating with my schedule and check-in/out needs. Could not rate them more highly!!

  • A very comfortable stay and friendly welcome in a nicely furnished cottage at the heart of Poundbury, Dorchester.

    David2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Katie’s & Pete’s place is a very welcoming home in one of the few old buildings in Poundbury. Both of them made sure we had everything what we needed and the communication before and during the stay was very friendly. The room and bathroom are not exactly spacious, but have everything. The bed is comfy, the shower hot and everything is clean and tidy. Katie prepared a nice breakfast (tea, coffee, toast, cereals, juice) for a good start in the day. The dog, Plum, is really cute and friendly. He sits mostly calm in a corner as he is very old. And the chicken in the garden were really funny, too! The two pubs in Poundbury are easy to walk to. And Dorchester is also easy to reach by foot (25 min walk). We especially can recommend a dinner at Georgie’s Porgies! Great pies and burgers in a fun atmosphere. The area itself is not exactly touristy, but it is a good and central starting point for trips around the Jurassic coast and Dorset countryside.

A downstairs double bedroom with large ensuite, in our lovely 18century artistic house in central Dorchester. Ideal for weekend breaks or a holiday base to explore the area. Weymouth, the Jurassic coast, Thomas Hardy's house and cottage and beautiful Dorset countryside are all within very easy access. There are 3 small steps to the room.
I am an artist/musician, working from home, so I am often around during the daytime and happy to advise about the local area. We have lived here for 18 years in this very unusual house, which was part of an agricultural complex, most of which has been turned into other interesting houses around the Fordington area of Dorchester. The room is on the ground floor and I hope very accessible. Wheel chair users may find it rather tight, but there are only 3 shallow steps up into the room and everywhere else is flat. As a diabetic, I am aware of dietary concerns. We offer a light continental breakfast with Cereal, croissants/toast, yoghurt, fruit and boiled eggs. If I am home then I can offer porridge, with milk or especially for diabetics and/or with Soya milk and it's delicious! We have a lovely medium sized dog, Worthington who is a Jack Russel/Spaniel cross and very friendly and easy going. Our house is full of architectural features and we have a lovely sunny porch and a garden gallery/leisure space. You come into our flag-stoned back hall, through the kitchen and into the bedroom. There is a large comfortable double bed, a chest of drawers and hanging space. The window looks onto the garden at the back. The bathroom has a shower and very large bath and lots of space.
Thomas Hardy, the famous Victorian author, lived just up the road at Max Gate and was born a short walk or drive away. Dorchester (or Casterbridge as he called it) is a very interesting old market town, with history right back to Neolithic and Roman times. Maiden Castle is the largest iron-age fortress in the country and is very well preserved. If it is raining then there are children's museums in the town centre. There is a lot going on in the arts in the summer with outdoor theatre, festivals, etc. Weymouth is a wonderful traditional seaside resort with a large sandy beach. But there are many smaller beaches as well as the magnificent Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove on the Jurassic Coast and fossils to find at Charmouth.
  • We had a short but very sweet stay here! The room is comfy, warm and very private. Damian is a friendly host who was great at communicating before we arrived. Also the breakfast is probably the best we've experienced at an Airbnb! Thanks for a great stay, we'd definitely recommend!

Dorchester is a lovely market town and we are only 10 mins level walk from the town centre where there are various museums and attractions, shops, cafes and restaurants There is a new development, Brewery Square, with shops and restaurants, and two railway stations , linking to London and Weymouth , and Bristol and Bath. We are walking distance from both stations. There are 2 cinemas, an Arts centre , and a bustling market on Wednesdays. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and the Jurassic coast is only 15 mins drive away. Many of our guests have enjoyed exploring places such as Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, Lyme Regis, Abbotsbury, Bridport and West Bay, and Weymouth and Portland. Thomas Hardy enthusiasts will love all the local connections. You can walk to Max Gate in 10 mins and there is a lovely longer walk, or short drive, to Hardy's birthplace. Dorchester makes a great base for a holiday or short break. We love the area and are happy to suggest places to visit. We are also walking distance from Dorset County Hospital and the County Council offices , for those who are coming here to work or attend Conferences etc

  • This was a 2 week stay for my Son who was on placement at the hospital in Dorchester. Mike and Claire were exceptional hosts, they welcomed my Son in to their home where he had a very enjoyable and safe stay, his accommodation was very clean, very comfortable and he had everything he could have wanted. The location was ideal for the hospital along with the local shopping and the train stations for his journeys back to his University when needed. If he goes back to the hospital for a further placement we would have no hesitation in booking here again over other places in the area including hotels. Thank You Mike and Claire.

This charming property sits right in the heart of Prince Charles's Poundbury estate. It is a two story property less than 100 yards from Queen Mother Square with Waitrose, a Wine merchant, Butcher, Garden Centre, Cafe's and "The Duchess of Cornwall Pub/Restaurant" all in walking distance. The Poundbury is an exiting new estate with many more individual shops to boost, but if you like to walk to the great field and beyond thats perfect too.
Wonderful self contained home with a garden and small terrace for the warmer days.
There is probably no need to go on about the Poundbury estate, as it has been featured many times now on the national News etc.
  • Modern yet homey townhouse, immaculately clean. Parking very straightforward. Neighbourhood felt very safe with some great brunch spots. Also a waitrose round the corner. All in all was perfect!

  • Friendly hosts, wonderful location and a warm, clean and well-equipped home. Despite being battered by storm Ciara and storm Dennis, we had a fantastic short break exploring the local area.

  • A lovely, clean modern house a few minutes walk from the centre of Poundbury. The house was well stocked with everything we needed for our stay. Dee and Baz were really welcoming and we’re very flexible about our check out time the next day. They also responded quickly to all our messages, especially when we’d left something behind after checking out. Unfortunately we were only staying one night but would definitely stay again as the house was well placed for exploring the local area.

  • Great location and very clean place

  • This house is absolutely beautiful. Perfect for a very comfortable few days in Poundbury. Great location and has everything you need, including great coffee to get you going in the morning!! Wish I could have stayed longer to make the most of it. Will certainly be back next time I’m visiting my family. Thank you Dee & Baz!

    Louise2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best stays I've had while traveling the last 3+ years using Airbnb. The hosts were outstanding and the place exceeded my expectations. Perfect location, beautiful inside, immaculate, great communications and many nice amenities. If you need a place to stay in Poundbury or in the Dorchester area, you should book this place. Also, a very short walk to Waitrose.

Named 'The Cartshed', it has been converted from an old barn. It retains a sense of history both inside and out, with its stone walls and flagstone floors. There is accommodation for six people plus a cot. NEW: The Cartshed now has a HOT TUB in the garden all inclusive within the rental fee.
It is ideally suited for walks to the white horse, and along the coast path towards Lulworth (E) and Weymouth (W). Clients have the added benefit of private parking at Eweleaze Farm for access to the secluded beach.
  • Lovely barn conversion with lots of character, great location - close to Durdle door and other walks - nice and warm with great central heating and a fireplace. Loved the hot tub which was up and running when we arrived!

  • Lovely little cottage-like converted old cart shed. Great location with short drives to Lulworth cove/Durdle door and a great place to start many walks. Very cosy and with a fully equipped kitchen. Towels provided, beds all made, selection of games and a hot tub in a lovely little garden! Bigger than it looks from the pictures. Would definitely recommend!

Huge attic room with ensuite bathroom. Coffee and tea making facilities and fridge are available in room, and continental breakfast is on offer if requested. Our home with lovely walled garden is over 250 years old and backs onto a park. Easy walking to town centre (5 mins) and to trains and buses ( 15 mins). Please note there is no parking at the house, but some free street parking and municipal carparks nearby. Double sofabed can be set up for two further guests, £15 per guest.
We've worked hard to make this rambling old house into a welcoming family home, with a huge farmhouse style kitchen at its heart and filled with curios from our travels.
  • A really lovely room, in a beautiful house and a great location. Barb and Jem were really welcoming and breakfast was great. Thank you very much for having us.

Lovely quiet room in a beautiful Victorian house with many original features. Perfect if you work in Dorset Hospital, great as well if you work nights, very quiet. Message if you want to view the room. Well stocked one stop shop within 100 yards
Your room is in the back of the house, with big windows overlooking the gardens. You will have a king size bed and the newly refurbished bathroom is on the same floor. The room has black out blinds. You can use the kitchen for cooking if you like and there is a microwave as well as tea/coffee making facilities. There will be all the basics for you to prepare a breakfast such as toast, cereals, milk, juice and jams and you can use the fridge if you want to buy your own things. You will be sharing the house with me, my girlfriend Emma, lovely cat Magdalena and friendly labrador George.
Dorchester is the beautiful county town of Dorset. There is a lot of local history to explore from the iron age hill fort of Maiden Castle and the Roman Villa to the heritage of Thomas Hardy. The local Fordington area used to be a separate village and has a beautiful village green in front of the 15th century St George's Church. Dorchester is a busy market town, with lots of shops, pubs and restaurants and the market on Wednesdays. Weymouth with it's gorgeous harbour and one of the best beaches in the country is only 15 minutes drive away and also easily accessible by bus and train.

  • You will love it !

    Joanne2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Riverside Lodge is a cosy comfortable real cottage with a balcony backing onto a pretty river. Although the cottage is not large or grand, Katy has provided everything you may need for a delightful stay. The modern kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to prepare and eat our Christmas dinner and a few important items we forgot to bring, there they were in a cupboard! Amazing - even onion salt! The town is no more than a ten minute walk away, depending on the route you take and there are many which we discovered. Although lots of restaurants, cafes and 'things to do' - not many were open this time of year as they are in other towns. Katy kept in touch during our stay and we would definitely recommend her cottage.

    Hazel2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Been twice and couldn't be happier with this place or with Katy as a host!

    Tara2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Had a fantastic stay at Katy's place. The house itself was ideal, in a really convenient location and well stocked with all the amenities you could want. Katy also kindly provided lots of local information for anyone new to the area. Great house, great host

    Tara2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this cottage as we have not toured this area before. It was a cosy warm cottage, with every amenity you would need. Well situated for the surrounding area and only a short walk into town where you will find bars, restaurants and plenty of local shops. The addition of a parking space is a bonus. The balcony is a lovely feature, although the weather and time of year meant that we could not utilise it late into the evening. All in all, a great place to stay

    Christine2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Small and perfectly formed picturesque cottage by a brook, easy walk to everywhere in the lovely town of Dorchester and a great centre for all things Dorset. All amenities and some lovely extra touches, the cup of tea with local ginger biscuits hit the spot exactly.

    Yvonne2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Things we packed for staying in Katy’s house (only to find that they were already provided!): Child’s toys, books and DVDs Muesli Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel First aid kit Kitchen scourers Kitchen paper Plastic-free shopping bags Hair dryer When other reviews say this house is incredibly well-stocked, they really mean it. A lovely place to stay in a beautiful part of the country.

    Lucy2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • A well presented perfectly located property in Dorchester. Ideal for walks into town or as a base to explore the area. Local shop, chippy and coffee shop all only a couple of minutes walk away. We can’t wait to come back!

    Clive2019-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • All i can say is that, jane is a great host and a wonderful person. Her house is elegant and cosy and always super clean. Jane and her husband were like a family for me away from home. I really enjoyed my stay with them, they were very hospitable and friendly and helped alot with my home sickness. We always had great talks and socialised alot, but they were also keen to give me my privacy when i needed it. Regarding the room it is spacious and very elegant and the bed is super comfortable. Actually i asked jane to retake pictures for the room, because the current ones don't really reflect how beautiful the room really looks. Regarding location, it's a very safe, high class area, walking distance to pretty much everything, because Dorchester is not a big city i think. It was 13 mins walking to dorset county hospital where i used to go everyday, 14 mins to Tesco and i think same to city center. Last but not least i can't forget to mention Alfie their dog, it was such a privilige to meet this pure soul and i will be missing him so much. Thank you jane for everything!

    Mohamed2019-03-26T00:00:00Z

19th Century terrace recently refurbished in the historic Fordington area of Dorchester. 10 min walk to the centre of the town. Close to all amenities but with easy access to the countryside and coast. A peaceful location with far reaching country views and a short stroll up Rectory Lane (almost opposite your front door) to the picturesque Fordington Green. Close long stay car park and free off road parking. It is an old narrow road with no immediate parking outside and little passing traffic.
We have lovingly refurbished the house having owned it for 20 years. It is very much our home from home. We have aimed to keep the character of the property while providing all the comforts you could possibly need. Suited equally to both business and leisure guests. We have offered the use of an open fire in the past but since the discovery of a colony of bees high up in the roof/chimney we ask guests to refrain from using the fire so our bees can live in peace. Please be reassured the bees are not in the house and the central heating keeps everything warm and snug in winter. In the Summer relax in the garden and sit out on the decking while you listen to the ducks on the River Frome.
Dorchester is the County Town of Dorset with a combination of traditional shops, restaurants and the vibrantly regenerated Brewery Square development offering contemporary leisure and eating. It’s a short walk to the 4 Dorchester museums. Book yourself into the evening ghost walk led by the Town Cryer or immerse yourself in the very best of Thomas Hardy country. We are immensely proud of our traditional cinema. A foodie heaven with farmers markets and fabulous restaurants such as the Pig in Studland, the Hive at Burton Bradstock and the Crab Cafe, Portland to name a few. You are close to a wealth of Dorset beaches and on the doorstep of Dorset’s World Heritage Jurassic Coast For local food on Fordington Green we highly recommend The Bean On The Green Cafe for breakfast, lunch, tea and delicious Purbeck Ice Creams. Also on the Green is Kellaway Fish and Chips. There is a One Stop Shop at the bottom of High Street Fordington.
  • Lucy’s house provided a wonderful experience for our family. We had family in town, with small children, and she went out of her way to provide a high chair and a travel cot for our children to use. Her house is well-located for exploring Dorchester and the Jurassic coast. I can wholeheartedly recommend her house for anyone looking to have a stress-free stay in Dorchester.

No TV but with wifi supplied you can watch Amazon/Netflix etc on tablet/laptop etc

A large townhouse situated in the heart of Dorchester and the perfect base for a Dorset holiday including exploring the Jurassic Coast. Approached via a large rear garden the property is arranged over ground and three upper floors. The location is secluded but moments from the amenities of the town's shops, bars and restaurants and across the road from the beautiful Borough Gardens. Close to museums, Thomas Hardy's house and extensive Roman remains and 6 miles from the sea.
  • A spacious home from home right in the heart of Dorchester. A perfect retreat for a break away.

  • Great find in the middle of Dorchester. So much space (lots of stairs!) and feels very homely. We particularly loved the kitchen/diner. The entrance is off a back street into the garden, but the house fronts on to one of the main streets. We loved walking the dog on The Walks and down to the river.

  • Had an amazing time at George's place. It's a family home and suited my family perfectly. It had everything we needed and George was always super helpful and even sent a necklace of mine that he found back to me. Location is great, we could just roll out of bed to all the shops and cafes. Your room is nice and quiet, with the window overlooking the gardens to the back. You will have a standard double bed and the newly refurbished bathroom is next door.
  • Thanks so much for your hospitality. I’m a nurse working at Dorset Hospital and stayed with Julien as I worked a few night shifts there. Wow. Amazingly friendly house. I was working nights and I slept so well. Lovely location. Immaculately clean. Lovely to have my marmite and toast in the morning :) Booked to go again and I’m so happy I’ve got Julien’s house again :)

The home offers female only guests a safe, secure and comfortable place to rest their head while visiting Dorset. The bathroom and toilet facilities are downstairs. Porridge is available otherwise Wetherspoons, Taste or Reloved in Dorchester provide a range of breakfast meals. There’s a yummy cafe and health food shop up the road near Godmanstone. The service is as outstanding as the food and drink. Access to Yeovil, Weymouth and Sherborne is straight forward. The X11 bus runs M-F only.
It’s a cosy home surrounded by livestock at the front and back of the house. The bedroom is light and spacious with a rail for hanging towels, a door hooks for jackets. The bed is comfy and the shower is powerful. My cats like to make guests feel welcome and will demand fuss and company. It’s part of their charm! There’s a few doorstops dotted around to prevent cat plucking. Whilst I try and keep a spotless house I cannot always promise you won’t find cat hair in places.
The community is friendly and welcoming.
  • A home away from home - I really enjoyed my stay here, Suzy-Anna is very welcoming and her adorable animals are a delight. The village is peaceful, with a good local pub, and there are wonderful views from the room, which is comfortable and cosy. Will definitely stay here again!

  • If you enjoy being welcomed and surrounded by furry hosts, you’re in for a treat. I was made really welcome in Suzy-Anna’s lovely home and introduced to an adorable Corgi and the fluffiest catsI’ve ever met. The joy of those guys aside, it’s just a lovely house, with such a nice feel to it. Suzy-Anna couldn’t do enough for me and a weekend away from home in the midst of a storm was made not only bearable but a real treat. 5 stars are not enough. Thank you

  • Suzy-Anna’s place is located in a lovely village moments from Dorchester. It is absolutely spotless and very welcoming, with a lovely guest bedroom to stay in with really relaxing decor. A top pub is a short walk away and there is absolute joy of being around her gorgeous pets. It felt like being in a home and not a short stay.

  • Suzy-Anna's hospitality and the house were beyond my expectations. Suzy-Anna is very warm and welcoming person and went extra mile to make me feel looked after. She's made sure all my needs are met including making me a special leaf tea and giving me a very helpful advice about places to visit locally. The house is stylishly decorated and perfectly clean even though Suzy-Anna has a dog and cats. They are adorable and a great company! The room is spacious with amazing view to a green field and the bed is super comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place! Thank you Suzy-Anna!

Find the 'Dorset state of mind' in our quaint and cosy Grade II Listed 18th century cottage built of rubble stone purportedly from the old town prison, and close to the historic attractions, museums and shops of delightful Dorchester.
Our home is located on one of Dorchester's oldest (and reputedly most haunted) streets, at one time known as Old Gaol Lane. From the 14th until the 18th century the old town gallows were sited at the south end. The condemned were carted from the gaol on the corner joining High East Street up the narrow lane to Gallows Hill, being offered a final drink at the (long disappeared) Bell Inn before their execution. It is said that on cold dark nights the sound of horses dragging prisoners to their grisly demise can still be heard.
Immortalised as 'Casterbridge' in Thomas Hardy's novels and surrounded by captivating, unspoilt countryside, ancient and enchanting Dorchester has been the county town of Dorset since at least the early 14th century. It nestles in the Frome valley between the rolling Dorset Downs and the archaeologically significant South Dorset Ridgeway, with the breathtaking Jurassic Coast (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Weymouth's golden sands a few short miles to the south. Dorchester is an ideal base from which to discover the lovely Purbeck Hills, with world-famous Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove just 25 minutes away by car. The town has a rich and fascinating history, the first human settlements appearing in the surrounding area from around 4,000 B.C. Vespasian's Second Roman Legion conquered the Celtic Durotriges tribe at Maiden Castle (one of Europe's largest Iron Age hill forts) in A.D. 43, and established a garrison on the banks of the river Frome, a couple of miles to the north west, which had grown into the new town of Durnovaria by about A.D. 70. Over the course of the Roman occupation this became encompassed by stone walls (a fragment of which survives at Top o' Town) and was supplied with running water by an aqueduct (traces of which remain visible). The ancient Neolithic henge now known as Maumbury Rings (just a short walk from our door) was adapted for an ampitheatre in about A.D. 100. The town fell into decay with the Romans' departure, but was revived as Dornwercestre (later Dorecestre) during the Saxon period. In the Middle Ages it grew into an important regional centre for commerce and politics ('Bad' King John was a frequent if unwelcome visitor to the castle in the early 13th century). During the early 17th century the town acquired renown as a bastion of Puritanism, and in the English Civil Wars Parliamentarians remodelled Maumbury Rings into an artillery fort. Following the Duke of Monmouth's ill-fated attempt to oust the Catholic James II in 1685, 'Hanging Judge' Jeffreys arrived to preside over the infamous 'Bloody Assizes' in what is now the Oak Tea Rooms in the present-day Antelope Walk. Jeffreys tried 312 rebels in this oak-panelled room, sentencing 74 to their death by hanging. In 1834, Shire Hall on High West Street (now a recently opened museum) became known for another trial, that of the famous Tolpuddle Martyrs. Dorchester has long been popular with visitors; after passing through in the early 18th century, the writer Daniel Defoe remarked, 'a man that coveted a retreat in this world might as agreeably spend his time, and as well, in Dorchester, as in any town I know in England'. Today's Dorchester remains a traditional and bustling market town with a proud heritage and is twinned with Bayeux in France, Lübbecke in Germany and Holbæk in Denmark. The unique Poundbury 'urban village' extension built on architectural principles advocated by the Prince of Wales, is due to be completed by 2025. While Brewery Square, the ambitious redevelopment of the Eldridge Pope brewery site, is proceeding in phases. As well as boasting no fewer than seven museums, numerous listed buildings, and one of the handsomest high streets in England, Dorchester has links with many renowned writers, including dialect poet William Barnes and the Powys brothers - Llewelyn, Theodore Francis & John Cowper. Its most famous literary link is perhaps to Thomas Hardy who was born and lived on the outskirts of the town. Hardy based his celebrated 'The Mayor of Casterbridge' on a fictionalised Dorchester; the building on which he modelled Michael Henchard's house can still be found on South Street.

  • We were very pleased with Stacey’s caravan. The caravan is well equipped and beautifully furnished. Very clean place with little touches like pretty flowers on the window sill. The kitchen is well equipped: toaster, microwave, plates and cutlery, pans and salad ball. The caravan living room is spacious; we were 7 of us in the caravan 4 adults and 3 kids and was ok. The kids loved it. We would love to go back.

  • My family and I had a wonderful trip! The caravan was clean, spacious and had most things that we needed. We felt very comfortable there. stacey’s Communication was fantastic from the moment I booked, responding to any of my queries within minutes or even seconds! Stacey was very helpful when the WiFi on the caravan park went down and communicated with the site on our behalf. It was back up and running in no time! The holiday park is lovely and staff were incredibly kind and helpful and the location of Stacey’s caravan was very convenient and close to the main activities. We even had amazing weather.. not sure if that was Stacey’s doing too! :-) Overall, a wonderful trip and we’ll definitely be booking with Stacey again.

The local village is walking distance from the Granary which includes a small shop and pub. Everything was catered for at the Granary and we particularly enjoyed the Rayburn 😊.
