In Hovden there is little light pollution and it provides good opportunities to see the northern lights in the period August to March. The midnight sun lasts from mid-May to mid-July, a few weeks before and after this period the nights are as bright as the days.

Welcome to Farmorhuset in Nykvåg, in the middle of beautiful Vesterålen. The house was built in 1954 and combines nostalgic 50s style with today's amenities for a comfortable stay. I inherited this house from my father, who in turn inherited it from his mother, and it has therefore been important for me to preserve the soul and history of the house. The Farmorhuset has three bedrooms with a total of four beds, which makes the house perfect for both small families and groups of friends.

TV-room, toilet and room with washmachine/ dryer in the basement. Wifi installed. We have a kayak, bicycle and a small boat with oars that can be used by the house's guests.

Barkestad has a good harbour with a vibrant fishing weather, and fishing has long been an important business route in the area. Fishing is possible both from land and boat. You can get to the island by fast boat from Myre or skalllfjorden - or your own/rented boat if you have this available.
