  • Silver ring making in a jewellers studio
I will show you how to make your own sterling silver ring or bangle from scratch. We will start by working out a design and the size needed first in copper wire or sheet, and how to create textures using a rolling mill, hammers or punches. I will show you how to correctly use a jeweller's piercing saw to cut the metal. After annealing the metal using a blow torch, you'll form the ring or bangle, using a mallet to shape it to the mandrel. I will demonstrate how to solder the join, and then you'll get a go! You will make the final piece in silver to your own personal design. And then it gets a final finish burnished, matt or shiny... and you get to put it on and it's yours to keep...or give to someone special as a thoughtful gift. Other things to note We are dog-friendly...Truffe my soppy springer spaniel gets excited when we have visitors, let me know if you would like a less exuberant welcome! There are stairs to reach the studio and bathroom.

  • Drawing Experience
I will run an hour drawing experience from my studio situated on Scarborough's West Pier. Using different illustrators work for inspiration you will create your own drawing/illustration based loosely on the style of Quentin Blake. You may wish to use the wonderful scenery of the surrounding harbour and bay for inspiration! Using different art materials we'll experiment using them although the focus will be on using watercolour paints and ink, this being in keeping with the style of Quentin Blake. This is also a fun and easy to use medium to work with so it will not be too daunting for the un-confident participant. I like to encourage imagination and can be flexible to different levels of abilities. This experience is all age friendly (except toddlers) and can be adapted to different age and skill levels. I have an enhanced DBS check, however any children must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum group number is 5 Other things to note Pay and display parking is available on sight. There are a small amount of stairs to reach my studio. Please contact me if the time you would like to attend is not offered, I run several experiences from my studio and the Air bnb system does not allow a cross over of times, I am happy to change times of workshops dependent on needs.

  • Alpaca Walking Experience & Tour
At the start of our Alpaca Walking Experience (min. age 12 years old to lead an Alpaca) you will be introduced to the Alpaca story, dip you boots in our disinfectant to protect the farm's biosecurity, and then you will be able to choose which Alpaca you would like to walk. Your guide will explain the do's and don'ts and then you will embark on your 50/60 min walk around our beautiful farm under the watchful eye of your guide Ed, Charlie, or Zac. Stopping along the way to admire the spectacular views, and scenery, you will almost certainly see some of the farm wildlife including Brown Hares, Barn Owls, Grey Partridge, Roe Deer and quite possibly our Curlew and wild hawks. Prior to your walk why not enjoy a sharing platter of Deli meats and cheeses in our Jane's Dome space along with a drink? This is though at extra cost and does need to be pre-booked. At the end of the walk you will also be able to enjoy some home baked cake, or a drink, in our gorgeous Jane's Dome (not included in price) if you'd like to stay a little longer. Other things to note: If coming by car please do not use the postcode with SatNav as most of the houses in and around the village of Acklam seem to share the same one! You'll end up in the middle of the village and may not see anyone to ask directions. Instead, enter Acklam (North Yorkshire) and Thrussendale Rd what3words ///submerge.pits.lollipop

  • Treasure Map Making Experience
In this 1 hour experience we will create a treasure map which can be taken away at the end of the session. Will will work with ink onto paper which has been stained to look aged and distressed. Using historic examples of treasure maps for reference we will pay attention to drawing and styles of writing. The naming of places on the map will also be a focus. We will use a dipping nib pen and ink, exploring different thicknesses of nib and the effect that they have on lines. This is a fun experience for all ages... I am 46 and I thoroughly enjoyed making my treasure map! Scarborough's very own pirate ship the Hispaniola can be seen in season from the window of my pier side studio which overlooks the boarding spot in the harbour. I have an enhanced DBS check, however any children must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum group number is 6. Other things to note Pay and display parking is available on sight. Out of season you can park along the foreshore for free. There are a small amount of stairs to reach my studio. Please contact me if the time you would like to attend is not offered, I run several experiences from my studio and the Air bnb system does not allow a cross over of times, I am happy to change times of workshops dependent on needs.
