“The lodge was a lovely peaceful place to stay - met expectations and more. We were two couples and had an amazing time - didn’t want to leave. Rooms were lovely and nice to have our own en-suite. There was everything we needed at the lodge including blankets to curl up to on the sofa. During the day we travelled to the different local towns which wasn’t too far away including Hadleigh, Lavenham, Dedham, Sudbury and Bury st Edmunds. During the evening we chilled at the lodge and relaxed in the hot tub. Host was lovely let us check in early and any queries we messaged host whom replied promptly. Will definitely be returning.”
The Barn Annex is next door to Tunmer's Farm where we live with our three dogs. The Farm is situated in the Dedham Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and overlooks the unspoiled Stour valley and cattle grazing in the water meadows. There is no public transport, but good taxis. Colchester and Ipswich are 8 miles away for shopping, as is the charming market town of Hadleigh. This quiet spot is the perfect place to relax and explore the countryside and the culture that Suffolk offers.
“Our second visit to this barn conversion on the Suffolk/Essex border and our first trip away from home since ‘lockdown’.The River Stour runs in sight at the bottom of the owner’s meadow and forms the county border. This is comfortable self-contained accommodation in a wonderful position with extensive views across the river valley. We were able to watch barn owls, a family of little owls, swans with their cygnets, and a heron, all immediately in front of us. A really beautiful quiet spot in the lovely walking area of Dedham Vale, which the tourist people call ‘Constable Country’ as the painter John Constable lived nearby and made many famous paintings of the area. Elizabeth is a very friendly host and provided us with her own eggs, plus bread, butter and milk. There is a well stocked farm shop a couple of miles away. Elizabeth lives in the farmhouse on site and was on hand for any queries. She responded very quickly when the microwave oven gave a problem, replacing it the same day. We hope to return in the future.”
