Historically Gilleleje is an old fishing village and it was here that many Jews were transported to Sweden during World War II. Gilleleje Church was a waiting place for Jews until they could be transported. In 1943, 75 Jews were caught by the Gestapo on the church ceiling after a snitch had informed the Germans. Everywhere there are monuments of historical events. Every year there are various festivals in Gilleleje - "Hill" Festival, Harbour Festival, Jazz at the port and The Herring Day. When you wake up, you have a view from the bed to a large lake with lots of bird and fish life. You can go down to the lake or have breakfast on the terrace. In the evening, you can enjoy a glass of wine or water under the starry sky. Due to the fact that there is no light pollution in the area, you can see the clearest starry sky when it is cloudless. There is both a bath and toilet in the cabin. Cleaning is included in the price.
