Cottage holiday rentals in Bowness-on-Windermere

Lovely stay. Squirrel Bank Cottage was clean, cozy and had everything we needed. The super comfy bed and private hot tub added to the great experience. Ideal location close to Bowness (walking distance but some areas are not paved and less than a 5 min drive). Thank you for a lovely stay and for the recommendations provided of the local area. We enjoyed exploring these.

We stayed at Simon and Belinda's place for a week and it was exactly what we needed. Fantastic location for walks and food. The Wainwright's Inn is only 0.2 miles away. Great food and local ales on your doorstep. The cottage is cosy, the kitchen is well equipped and the information provided was very thorough and useful. There are some books in the house they have prepared to show various walks and local recommendations. We did some of these walks and our 5 year old enjoyed every second! We took advantage of the leisure facilities at The Langdale. This was a great addition to the cottage! Really recommend if you want a place near to town locations, walks and local pubs/cafés/restaurants.

What a wonderful place for a peaceful break away. The house was so comfortable with all the amenities needed. The hot tub was a lovely addition too! My son, who loves wildlife photography, absolutely adored the river. He spent every possible moment down there photographing Kingfishers! I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves birds and wildlife.

We arrived on the Friday for a 3 night stay. The Barn is in a beautiful place inside and out. The Hot Tub was lovely on an evening and the patio fire was great to sit around for drinks early evening watching the Sun go down. Casterton village is only a couple of miles from Kirkby Lonsdale. The village its self had a gorgeous pub 7 mins walk from the Barn which had a great range of food and served Sourdough pizza on Sunday evening after 1700hrs with a lovely warm atmosphere and open fires. There is a great taxi service and some fabulous restaurants near to the Barn. The Black Bull and the Highwayman were fabulous. (We did go to Number 9 also and it was not somewhere I could recommend, service and food really poor.) Patrick and Anika were great responsive hosts and this is a do not miss property, that offers every you need for a fabulous stay. Our little group loved it. Thank you Karen, Denise and Naomi

Hermitage cottage was in a beautiful situation right on the river Lune. The cottage was clean and tidy. We enjoyed the hot tub, the barbecue and the outdoor seating. We were extremely fortunate with the weather and really enjoyed our stay. Walks around the estate were lovely. It is a lovely base to explore the Forest of Bowland and surrounding areas.

Wonderful 5-night stay at Chestnut Cottage after Rob completed the Great Glen Way & West Highland Way in 6 days! @freemanwalking on YouTube 😀 The hot tub was a real treat for soothing sore muscles. Stunning bay views made the cottage the perfect place to relax. The bed was super comfy, and we loved the little extra touches like the soft robes and complimentary tea, coffee, and milk. Just a short, scenic walk along the promenade to the village for supplies. The weather wasn’t the best, but the cosy cottage more than made up for it. Highly recommend! Thank you Gemma

Great cottage, had everything we need and the location was great for what we were doing. Hot tub was an added bonus for the trip.

Michael's place was a perfect base for our 5 days in the Lakes. The house was really well set up with a fully equipped kitchen, balcony with great views, wood burner and TV with netflix. The bed was super comfy although as others have noted there are low ceilings downstairs (where bedrooms and bathroom are) so not ideal if you're tall. I'm 6ft and I could just get away without ducking when walking around, however the shower was awkward to use and I had to contort myself to avoid bumping my head. That's a minor issue though as otherwise the place was great. The location is also very convenient for accessing lots of lovely parts of the Lakes - we didn't need to use the car for 2 of the days, spending one on Ullswater and Aire Force waterfalls, and another climbing Helvellyn, both walkable from the house.

What an absolute gem we found in Apple House. The pictures really don't do the whole place justice! A cosy, romantic house set in beautiful, serene surroundings. It really was the perfect location for our mini moon! Was lovely to be greeted by the chickens and Russel the dog each morning <3 We were treated to some tasty welcome gifts and the place was spotless, very comfy bed and just the most charming decor. Thank you so much Emma and Craig! We will definitely be returning with more of our family!

We had a wonderful stay at Silver Howe, the cottage was perfect for exploring the Lakes. It was a real home from home with a handy local shop and pub. The private fenced garden was great as we had our dog with us, it also kept out the local sheep! Would recommend Rebecca’s place for a visit, it was clean, has great amenities and lots of character and charm. The lovely walk along the river to Elterwater is recommended, as is a stop at the Britannia Inn, the food was very good. Overall a great stay, thank you.

We had a fantastic stay at this lovely cottage on Wastwater. The setting is stunning — right on the lake and surrounded by beautiful walking routes, perfect for exploring with our 18-month-old and dog. The cottage is tucked away on a peaceful farm with a great outdoor seating area to enjoy the views. It’s quite remote, with the nearest proper shop about 30 minutes away, but the nearby campsite shop (just half a mile down the road) had the essentials we needed. Other than that, everything was perfect. A truly relaxing break in a beautiful location — we’d definitely recommend it!

We had a lovely stay at Punchbowl Cottage in Grayrigg. The house was cosy, spotless, and perfect for our family. We've travelled around England a bit, and this was probably the best accommodation we've stayed in so far. It's also a great base for exploring the Lake District – peaceful and beautifully located. And I must say... I completely fell in love with the hand cream from The Bath House! Thank you for the wonderful hospitality Kirsty!

A real gem. It’s better than the photos show. Full of character yet modern standards and amenities. Quality furnishings and kitchen equipment. Excellent mattress, soft, comfortable sheets and towels. So lovely that it’s family owned from someone born and still living in the area. Everything has been thought through so well equipped. Can’t wait to come back. We loved every minute of our stay. It’s in our top 5 of places we’ve stayed in. Thank you

A lovely place in a great central location within walking distance of Lake Windermere, some great cafes (we loved Home Ground), pubs and shops. The home is spacious and we liked all of the different areas that we could spend our time in - including quiet outdoor seating, a lovely dining room and a cosy sitting room. This is a great base to explore the Lakes from, we enjoyed our stay very much! Would definitely stay again! Katharine is a fantastic and responsive host.

The cottage was exactly what it was described as. It is in a central location, plenty of cafes, restaurants & pubs near by.

Just loved this cottage, its in a great location, no need to go out in your car as there is plently to do nearby. The cottage is very clean and nicely done out. It is well equipped, with a nice little hamper box on arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Five stars from us.

Denise and Steve could not have been more accommodating. I was staying in their cottage with my Mum in order to attend her grandson's/my nephew's wedding. Mum is a wheelchair user and the cottage allowed easy access from room to room. Other than the shower, which she would not have been able to access, the flow around the cottage worked beautifully. With views down to Lake Windermere across lush gardens, the situation was beautiful and was a perfect place to stay. We had such a lovely weekend, such that my Mum asked when she could move in!. Tracey's place was in walking distance of good restaurants, cafes, and in an excellent area to explore the lakes district. It also has everything you need to make your own meals, as well as a water dryer. Great place to stay.

This property is a perfect location in Windermere. Central between centre of Bowness and Windermere, with the main bars/pubs/cafes are 15 minute walk away. Andrew was a fantastic host and the property was exactly how described online. Anything we required, Andrew was quick to respond and provided great information of the local area. Would highly recommend this property and would hopefully be able to stay in the future.

Jem’s Conga’ was the perfect spot to explore Ambleside and the nearby towns of Bowness, Grasmere and Keswick. Jem was a brilliant host who shared ideas of walks and things to keep us occupied in the rain. A comfortable, homely, cosy cottage in a stunning and peaceful setting.

We stayed for a week in Fox Corner for our mini moon and it was perfect for our needs - location couldn’t get better for visiting all of the local spots and there are so many beautiful walks right from the front door. Our pooch was also very comfortable and we appreciated the doggie bed and towel! Dave was so responsive and helpful when we had a minor issue during our stay. We enjoyed the hot tub after coming back from a busy day exploring. Fox Corner had all the bits we needed to have a cosy and comfortable stay. We would definitely return!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Peg’s Place. There was a lovely bottle of Prosecco to greet us which got the holiday off to a great start! The small cottage is very well designed and equipped. Perfect for a couple, small car and small dog. Quick walk into Bowness on Windermere with access to lake and local amenities. Ross was very friendly and reactive in his communication.
