Kid-friendly holiday rentals in Strafford County

Staying at Michael's lake house was the perfect retreat for our family. The first thing that stood out: The quiet. The house is on a cove just off the main lake, and it's so peaceful. We started our mornings with coffee on the screened in porch (yay no mosquitoes to worry about with kids!) and then spent the days kayaking, paddleboarding, and lying in the hammock. The lake itself is gorgeous and there's a sandbar that our girls loved! Meals were a breeze. The kitchen had everything we needed and was a lovely space to cook in (not to mention clean!). We grilled a couple of times too, which, for us, is a vacation must. It rained a little bit while we were there, but the house was well stocked with board games and honestly, everything was so beautifully decorated, it was just as relaxing indoors as outside. Gary and Nick were wonderful hosts, extremely accommodating and very communicative and flexible. The surroundings alone were so picturesque , each morning and dawn was like a painting - I’ll be back for sure !

We had a fantastic week-long stay at Heidi's home. She was an exemplary host from the beginning to the very end -- always responsive, flexible, and very helpful. She knew we were going to be arriving at nighttime, and that there would be construction going on nearby with exit closures. She took time to provide detailed instructions on how to get around those closures which alternated between two exists every night from 7pm-7am. This is their real home, so when you enter, you feel like you have entered your home away from home. Everything in the house is not just clean, but spotless. The beds were comfortable and the surroundings are just gorgeous -- especially the sunroom, which is like something out of a dream. We even saw some wild turkeys at a distance in the backyard! Of all the Airbnbs we have stayed at, this was by far the nicest and the most memorable. Thanks so much, Heidi and Dennis.

Everything we needed to get away, cook, and enjoy a fireplace.

The house is beautiful and the views are just breathtaking. From inside the house, you get a beautiful view of the lake and then the porch is amazing. You can kayak, use the paddle board or use the canoe. You can also sit by the lake and enjoy the campfire. The surroundings are very beautiful and peaceful. The host is very responsive, solved all our doubts and was flexible with us during check-in and check-out, which we appreciated very much. At check-in, we were greeted by a great bottle of wine and chocolates, which was a great touch. The house also has a ping pong table, books to read and board games. The kitchen was well stocked with the basics. We had an amazing stay, we highly recommend this property :)

My family and I had a serene experience staying here. Although the weather was mostly rainy or cloudy, we loved the lake location and maximized the indoor, outdoor, and nearby activity options. The hosts were so responsive, regardless of the question, and made this a truly delightful visit. This was my parents’ first Airbnb experience and it set the bar higher than I could have imagined! My family and I are already talking about coming back!!

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. Lots of amenities and the hosts are very friendly and quick to respond to any questions. It was roomy for our family of 5 and the beds were really comfortable. I’d say it easily accommodates 6-7 people. If you are adventurous and don’t mind sleeping in a small loft or a basement setting you could fit 10-11.

My husband, our puppy, and I had a fantastic stay at this property! While we ran into some technical issues with the fireplace, Darryl went above and beyond to get it fixed—even during Father’s Day weekend, which we really appreciated. The home itself was wonderful: beautiful lake views from the front deck through large glass doors, an open layout with a cozy sofa, TV, and fireplace connected to the kitchen and two comfortable bedrooms. As much as we loved the indoor space, we had an even better time outside—grilling, kayaking, hanging out by the fire pit at night, and fishing. Our dog had the time of his life running freely around the yard. One night, we even had a wild nature moment when we heard some intense animal sounds echoing through the trees—definitely a memorable experience! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to relax, explore, and enjoy both comfort and adventure. We are definitely going back, perhaps grilling some Brazilian BBQ to Darryl and his family!

Dennis and Julie’s place is impeccable! Beautifully decorated and so comfortable and relaxing. We felt right at home from the moment we walked in. Anything and everything is thoughtfully provided in this warm and inviting space. We would definitely stay again.

My husband & I had a wonderful stay! Niki answered all of my questions & gave some great hiking recommendations. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could possibly need & the place was clean.

Nice place, clean, comfy bed, very well stocked, had everything i needed for a month. I work from home, over the internet. My only recommendation to Alan and Martha is to fix the wifi which went down multiple times per day and disconnect me from my job and conference calls. The first 3 or so times it happened, i called & texted the 2 phone numbers that Alan provided (in a note on the fridge). I also left a voice mail and knocked on their front door. but i never heard back about my text or voicemail. Eventually I unplugged are re-plugged the antenna/router which fixed the issue most times. Sometimes you have to do it 2 or 3 times, but eventually it does work.

I’ve rented several places, and this was by far the best experience I’ve had. The home was immaculate and thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed—and more! The kitchen had all the essentials, plus extras like spices, condiments, and even butter, which we needed. The bathroom was equipped with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, making our stay even more comfortable. The mattress was high quality and very comfortable, and having access to a washer and dryer was a huge bonus. Everything was perfect—highly recommend!

Certainly not a glamorous neighborhood, but quiet and walking distance to some great restaurants (Stages at One Washington was better than every Michelin 3 Star I’ve been to). Very homey apartment with great amenities (particularly appreciated the Apple TV, WiFi and Keurig pods), and Joshua was a really proactive and thoughtful host. Really great!

Great place right on the water!

This was an absolute beautiful stay. The views of the lake with the fall foliage was breathtaking. The home had everything we needed and was perfectly clean. Would definitely come again.

Four adults spent a week in Alton Bay. The deck gets morning sun which was wonderful before the heat of the day settled in. We loved the walk ability of the Bay. Great breakfast next door. Two sit down restaurants and one walk up restaurant within a quarter mile. Grocery store about 10 minutes away. Beautiful Lakeside public park and swimming area right next door. The condo is very spacious and well decorated. The hosts responded immediately to a few missing items. If you are looking for a small town, lakeside, summer vacation. We would recommend Breakaway.
