The name Colonial Heights results from an incident during the American Revolutionary War. In 1781 the French troops of Lafayette, known as the Colonials, set up artillery on the heights overlooking the Appomattox River and Petersburg, where British forces were located. Legend indicates that an English soldier stationed in Petersburg, upon seeing Lafayette’s troops across the river, exclaimed, “Look! There are the Colonials, up on the Heights!” Hence, the name Colonial Heights was born. The city has all the amenities you may desire during your stay to include dozens of restaurants, 24hr pharmacy and Walmart, and a large mall with movie theater just 1 mile away.
  • Absolutely no complaints! The home was very tidy, very comfortable, and quiet. It is both quiet and still within a 5-10 minute drive of many good places to eat or spend time with friends and family. I will 100% be staying here again if I am in the area. The host was quite thorough in making sure guests are accommodated nicely and had many simple, little things standard (such as water bottles, little snacks, coffee, shampoo and soap, etc.). Check-in and check-out were both extremely simple and took no time at all. I am very, very satisfied with my stay and even quite satisfied with the affordability of such a great stay. Thank you!

  • One of the first things I noticed was the neighborhood. It appears like a good neighborhood and I wasn't worried about somebody trying to break-in in the middle of the night. As an Ex Law Enforcement Officer thoes are things you think about when staying out of town. Check-in was easy and the owner was very quick to reply in communication, we're talkin seconds and minutes in reply time. Overall this was a good stay and I would consider staying here again.

  • This was my 3rd stay at Bryan’s place.. what more can I say?! I wouldn’t go back to a place that didn’t meet expectations. Everything was great as usual. Very clean and cozy and a convenient location.. at a great value! Bryan’s communication is always great. A+++++

  • We loved this place! Actually left wishing we had more time to spend there. We Booked last minute for a quick overnight stay in area. Maude was an amazing host, let us know to call if we needed anything. There was plenty of space for our family of 3. Private and cozy! Will definitely come back and stay again.

    Melissa2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Maude’s place was cozy and in such a beautiful location. It was cold, but the fireplace/heater kept the room toasty warm. We couldn’t stay long, but it would have been wonderful to stay there in the summer. Maude was kind, helpful, and told us interesting facts about the property!

    Bridget2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Cool spot with a TON of open space. If you don’t like the woods, not for you. If you like cabins and fresh air, I strongly recommend.

    Rob2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Look no further! Perfect little cabin next to a beautiful lake and in the center of history!

    Jaison2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cannot say enough great things about this cabin. My sister and I showed up later in the evening and found the property extremely easy to navigate. There is no running water in the cabin. Fresh water is available through a water pump outside and so is the bathroom. The property was BEAUTIFUL. We came with our two dogs who had a blast romping around and watching the wildlife around them. The cabin was so toasty and the decor matched the unique feel of the property. The host is also prepared with a diverse range of recommendations! Could not recommend more!

    Hannah2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was just what my wife and I needed to take a break and relax. We had plenty of privacy and space to roam around with our pups. The fish house by the dock was a prefect spot to do some reading outside. We watched flocks of geese fly into the pond and there is a beautiful white swan who lives on the water. We enjoyed the reading selection in the barn cabin. One of my personal favorite things about visiting Airbnbs is reading from a hosts little library. Also, Maude made a fantastic recommendation for a local coffee shop where we had a fantastic breakfast. Demolition Coffee is a must try! The patio is dog friendly. The atmosphere was really nice and we took a walk around town to look at the local shops and restaurants. We highly recommend this little retreat if you want to get off the grid for a bit and recharge!

  • Jonathan and Victoria were amazing hosts! The new motor in the hot tub is working great, and the animals were really friendly. We had a really relaxing time and would definitely come back again !

  • Wonderful hosts with friendly farm animals. They are very quick to respond for any questions you have. This is a great place to go if you want to get out of the city. We ended up going to Wahrani trail and York river state park for some good hiking. This is a prime location to relax.

    David2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I had a wonderful stay and absolutely loved your animals, thank you so much!

    Alexis2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place was great, my husband and I really enjoyed our stay. Super cozy and just what we needed to get out of the city. The breakfast and coffee were delicious. My only complaint was the hot tub wasn’t working and the common area was a little too cold for my liking. Definitely recommend bringing slippers or warm socks because that floor was icy cold. Overall I recommend!

    Yaritza2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • We recommend everyone come experience grateful meadows ! We stayed at the tiny cozy cottage and it was amazing. A great off the grid getaway ! Although we did take pictures of the beautiful place we spent most of are time without our phones connecting with each other and the animals.

    Joselyn2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is soooooo cute! The animals that we got to meet were the highlight of our trip! The breakfast is AMAZING! The rooms were clean. The space felt safe. Husband and I enjoyed our weekend getaway. We will definitely be back!

    Kristen2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Grateful Meadows! Jonathan and Victoria have a beautiful piece of land! As soon as we arrived we were given a tour of the property and got to meet all of their sweet animals. The cottage was beautiful and pristine inside and we had everything we needed to enjoy our weekend. The breakfast was delicious as well and had a personal touch. I loved interacting with their donkeys, Marley and Archer each morning. We will happily continue to support their cause and hope to return for another stay again in the future. I would recommend Grateful Meadows for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in the country.

    Melanie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place was spotless & so beautiful. The breakfast was really good & kept me energized. I accidentally left something & they offered to mail it to me! Definitely returning in the summer to take advantage of the pool.

Step by step instructions for locating the place from the main road and then accessing the apartment. The apartment is in a great spot in Richmond, very close to local spots to explore. And the apartment was immaculate! So well prepared for a comfy stay. Thank you Tyler and Carol!

Light up the fire and lie back on the huge sectional sofa in a reimagined interior of massive windows and soaring ceilings. Industrial-style elements add authenticity, while new features include a twin-vanity bathroom with marble countertops.
Just step out the door to come to Monument Avenue, while restaurants, brewhouses, and boutiques at Scotts Addition and Fan Carytown are within walking distance. In addition, the GRTC Pulse a block away offers easy access further afield.

  • Bill’s place is cozy and clean. The space is very nice with a private back entrance. Can’t imagine a better place to stay when visiting Williamsburg.

    Matthew2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Bill's place is fantastic! An excellent space with so many perks. The only factor that could be improved upon would be for the young kids upstairs to refrain from running around on the floor directly above the basement unit before 9 am. I know there's only so much you can control with kids so I empathize of course, but maybe keep them on the second floor just for the early morning hours. Otherwise fantastic stay :)

    Kirby2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • He was so accommodating with our check in so my son could take his nap on time! Clean space and very quick response, would stay again when in the area!

TRAVELING ? We understand the need for a clean personal space AND the expense involved. So come to the GiaMaria which is in the country where the air is clean yet it is only about 10 minutes from the city. We also know the situation with many restaurants, so during this trying time, we are offering free complimentary INSTANT Pot beef stew dinners and for breakfast, Jimmy Dean sausage and egg biscuits with lots of hot coffee and cold bottled water. BE SAFE AND GOD BLESS.
I will be the first to admit that in my 80 years the current pandemic is the worst that I have ever experienced. But don't just crawl up in a corner and wait for it to disappear!! Come to the GiaMaria or on my other boat, the Jewel of the James. Come here in this beautiful country setting so that you can watch birds, fish, hike, bike, read , play board games, and even work "from Home" on the spacious outside decks. It is a great way for anyone to just keep on living in your own personal space where you will not need to come into contact with anyone unless you so desire! The 50' Chris Craft, GiaMaria, is a hybrid idea turned reality that came into my mind as I was exploring a way to provide an adventure for guests at a reasonable price, even for those who would be staying aboard only for one night. And so, I built the boat so that looking at the stars and hearing a Hoot Owl from the upper deck, would in my opinion beat hands down watching another dumbed down TV program. Also, my plan was for the GiaMaria to offer a total living space, where you can cook a full gourmet meal and dance in the main saloon. She is not just a place to stay where you don't know who is in the next room to you, but a safe and quiet place where you can relax, stay warm or cool depending on the seasons and still get away from that "beaten path." For all practicable purposes, you will be experiencing living in a "tiny house" but it won't feel like it because the GiaMaria is really quite roomy. So, if you have ever wondered what living in less space, or what living in a houseboat would be like, then this is for you. Because you get not only a great place to enjoy your stay, but you get to experience both life styles. This vessel is a great addition to the greater Richmond area too because of her unique location, and also her close proximity to the cities of Richmond, Petersburg, Hopewell and Colonial heights. And something else that is unique has to do with me, your host. And that is, I am the longest surviving USCG licensed James River tugboat captain, and in my retirement years in addition to building and offering the GiaMaria, I became an amateur historian, writer, and a lover of the hundreds of species of wildlife in our area. Even where the GiaMaria is berthed it is unique, because she is moored alongside a private dock, and in a remote oxbow of the James River where commercial vessels don't rock and roll us, or scare our game, or destroy our beautiful shorelines. In truth, we are remote without being remote because we are only nine miles from the Capital of Virginia. Yet the only approach to the Richmond Yacht Basin other than by water is through the beautiful, scenic, and well kept Richmond National Battlefield Park. It is an area where many species of wildlife live and can appear at any time or place along the roadway, so please be careful when driving. The road which is about a mile long has a speed limit of 25 MPH and follows earthworks that were hand dug by Union soldiers during the Civil War . At the end of the road and straight ahead, a walking path will lead you to Fort Brady (named for Matthew Brady the celebrated Civil War Photographer and Union General Hoke) which overlooks the James River. It is a magical spot well worth every minute you will spend there. And only a few yards away and to your right is a coded gate that secures a couple of beautiful farms and the marina entrance. As you descend the hill, the sign reads 41/2 miles per hour. It is not just to control speed or to be whimsical but because we want you to take a moment and enjoy the beautiful view and the historic space that you are entering as you approach the marina. The GiaMaria seems to always surprise every guest that has stayed aboard because of how open, roomy and comfortable she is. As her owner and someone who has spent a lifetime on boats, I very well know how charming but uncomfortable some boats can be no matter their size. And so, my number one goal as I set out to redesign and rebuild this vessel was to make it as comfortable as your home, but also highly functional. And if what my guests have had to say about it is true, then this goal has been accomplished. My plan was not to just build in easy living, but also to locate the GiaMaria in a safe, seclude and picturesque marina. I therefore chose Richmond Yacht Basin. It is a place where my guests will have an opportunity to fish, play, or just relax while aboard in one of the most beautiful settings to be found in Eastern Virginia. It is not the kind of marina where all boats are necessarily stacked one beside the other, or where deck shoes are required, but a place with lots of local color because of the people who inhabit it. There is an old-time working boatyard, and just across the river on Hatcher Island there is a wilderness. Richmond Yacht Basin is a place that I have personally come to cherish, because it is a small, quiet and cozy family owned Jewel only 15 minutes from downtown Richmond by way of (Osborne Turnpike) an old country road. The road itself you will find to be quite unique as you will travel under ancient cedar trees. And as you reach Tree Hill just before entering Richmond, you will experience a beautiful view of the downtown, yet you will still be in the midst of a well kept farm. The marina however is within walking/jogging/cycling distance from the Richmond National Battlefield Park, a magnificent family park at Osborne Landing with a Bass Master's Classic landing for launching boats and a separate kayak/canoe launch dock. There is also a wonderful newly constructed playground for children, complete with toilet facilities. Within a few miles there is also Dory Park where you can fish for trout, watch a ball game or ride or stroll some beautiful trails. And best of all, it is all free. We are also adjacent to one of the busiest and most scenic bike trails anywhere in Virginia; The Virginia Capital Trail which runs from Richmond to Williamsburg, and on any given weekend hundreds of cyclists peddle through the park near the marina or on the trail as individuals, couples or on club outings. The historic James River will be your "front yard" where sea going tugs and ships travel sometimes on a daily basis, but of course not through "our front yard". The GiaMaria rests in only four feet of water at dockside, and it is protected from storms by a wild and beautiful island on the opposite shore. And if you like history, there is no spot in the entire United States that can offer so much in such a small space. You will be onsite where Powhatan and his daughter Pocahontas spent much of their lives at Arrohateck, as did her husband John Rolfe and it was here where John Rolfe would plant his famous Varina tobacco that would save the colonies. Just around the river's bend you can experience Henricus Park (named for Prince Henry, the eldest son of King James I) and the second English Virginia settlement in America. Henricus is a re-created historical adventure park that is well worth visiting and it is similar in many ways to the Jamestown Historical Park. Our area is also the place where Benedict Arnold sank our Colonial fleet as it rested on anchor almost within sight of our marina once our patriots had declared war on England in order to gain our independence. And just up the road in Church Hill, Patrick Henry gave his famous "give me liberty or give me death" speech. Civil War battles were fought here on Chafin's farm while Union Ironclads like the Monitor and Galena fought unsuccessfully while trying to pass Drewery's Bluff (the confederate naval academy) and hoping to subdue the confederate General Robert E. Lee. And as a personal connection, my great grandfather,John Brown, a confederate solider was released at Akien's wharf just around the bend after spending his imprisionment at Point Lookout, Maryland. Think names like Captain John Smith( Jamestown), Patrick Henry( "Give me liberty or give me death") and US Presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, John Tyler and William Henry Harrison. Peter Jefferson(Thomas' father) lived here before moving to Monticello in the Albermarle as did the 4th Chief Justice of the United States, John Marshall. Generals during the Revolutionary War, like Washington (American), LaFayette (French), Arnold and Cornwallis (English), and Kosciuszko (Polish), Washington's "accomplished military architect" as well as Civil War Generals like Grant and Lee were also here. All of these giants spent considerable time here or lived here as did many other well known personalities throughout our history. In modern times people like the Honorable Governor of Virginia, L. Douglas Wilder, grew up and lived just down the road in Churchill and became the first black governor of Virginia and in the United States. And the late and much loved singer Jimmy Dean chose his wife, his yacht, (The Big Bad John), and this area as his playground and also to make it his home. Fortunately for us today, Jimmy Dean's beautiful widow and well known singer, Donna Meade Dean Stevens has been very successful in her own right while reviving The Old Dominion Barn Dance, a Virginia Treasure that was broadcast in the 40's and 50's throughout much of the country and even worldwide to our servicemen and women who were serving overseas during those years. But the area is not all about famous people and events. Wildlife abounds here. Bald Eagles nest just across the channel as do Great Blue Herons, Little Green Herons and Ospreys among many other birds and land creatures. And Osborne Landing which is only a mile away has become a sports person's paradise. Whether it is fishing, hunting, skiing, paddle boarding, canoeing, canoe sailing, small boat sailing, kayaking, playing on personal watercraft, hiking the beautiful and well planned paths that will take you down by the riverside, checking out the battlefields, hunting for relics or what ever suits your fancy, you will find it here. In fact, there is only one word to describe the docking spot that the GiaMaria enjoys, and that word is UNIQUE. One more thing. I understand that anything is possible, but our area is UNIQUE in another way too. We have not suffered from many serious storms, earthquakes, fires, droughts or blizzards as do other parts of the US. We experience the four seasons, and it would be very unusual for any one season to have severe weather that would last more than a few days at a time. We truly are blessed to live in such a beautiful historic countryside that is laced with meandering back roads that cut through ancient forest or small well kept farms and villages. So..., what are you waiting for? Come and take the weight off and absorb the excitement (or the solitude) that the Crossroads of North American History has to offer. Note: Check out the online video: "On Board With The Henrico Marine Patrol" (June 8, 2015) and you will get a birds eye view concerning the beauty and care of this ancient waterway that we as users take very seriously. As the longest living professionally licensed United States Coast Guard Captain on the James River, and the first Maritime Commander of the Virginia Defense Force, I was honored to give opening comments, mid-video comments and closing comments about our beautiful waterway.
Whether you just want to stay aboard and enjoy the boat, or experience all the area has to offer, we can help you find your way. There are wonderful upscale restaurants with great views of both the river and the city in Churchill Hill, Shockoe Slip,("the bottom") or Rocketts Landing. Restaurants such as Millie's, The Tobacco Company, Conch Republic or The Boat House are all only minutes from the GiaMaria. And if you like craft beer, you have come to the right place. Richmond has become a "major" craft beer location. But we also have ( kinda/sorta) in our backyard, the "Lilly Pad". Actually it is next door to Osborne landing. It's a great little spot along the shore where you can have a relaxed evening with locals over a beer, or a delicious meal, and sometimes they have live music, but it is like that proverbial box of chocolates, "you never know what you're gonna get". Richmond also has great museums, sporting events, Class III and class IV whitewater rafting that will carry you right through the city. There are numerous theaters, places of worship, and colleges and universities. County and National parks are all around us, and only a short drive up or down the road is Petersburg, Charlottesville, Williamsburg, Jamestown, or Yorktown as well as Bush Gardens, Kings Dominion and outlet malls. In fact, there is so much to see and do here in our area, that it would require a team to put it all together in tour guide format. There is truly something here for everyone, and we can help you find it.
  • Such a fun stay! Beautiful views, clean & comfy boat & wonderful host!

  • Ron’s place is perfect for a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of the real world. Our host was wonderfully attentive (even accommodating our later than expected arrival time). We were just close enough to the museums in Richmond while still cradled in the natural beauty of the James River.

    Spring2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Captain Ron was so amazing . There were also lots of little things to explore while in the area. It's the little things and wonderful people that make life amazing.

    Katrina2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Everyone needs to experience this place. Captain Ron’s boat is such a beautiful hidden gem. It was so relaxing and the views were amazing. The best part about the stay is the hospitality. I have never felt so welcomed. Thank you!

  • We had a great time aboard Captain Ron’s place. The ship had everything we needed and hospitality was top notch. We were concerned about being chilly given the time of year, but it wasn’t an issue at all—we were warm and toasty the whole time. Thanks Maria and Captain Ron for a wonderful weekend!

  • I have stayed at many Airbnb places in the last few years and this has been one of my most favorite stays. The houseboat is amazing, clean and has all the comforts of home. The marina is very safe, secure and it was so much fun to walk around and look at all the boats. We enjoyed sitting on the upper deck and watching the stars after a nice dinner at Portabellas which is only about 5 minutes from the houseboat. All in all this was a great Airbnb experience and look forward to staying again in the future.

    James2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best time on the boat and I wish we had booked two nights instead of one! It was so cozy and even with a toddler was romantic and homey. The little one loved watching the sunrise through the big windows and counting the geese on the water. Captain Ron is so personable and helpful. Definitely recommend!

    Kalley2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Ron’s house boat on the morning of on our way to go catfishing on the James River. Ron was very helpful in letting us know where the closest boat ramp was and the best places to catch fish on the river. The house boat was warm and cozy. The bed was very comfortable. Perfect stay for a couple.

  • Quite a gem. This has been my favorite Airbnb. The hosts really went beyond to ensure we'd feel safe and comfortable. With great amenities, privacy, and being impeccably clean- it was a great weekend getaway for my mom, sister and I. It was so close to CW and many great restaurants (so many we'll have to go back and try too). Their space became a focal point for our trip that made us all feel so comfortable. Would highly recommend this Airbnb to add to your experience. Thank you guys!

  • Ryan and Tracy’s place is a wonderful home away from home . We were in town to visit our son who is a William & Mary Law student . The kitchen was well appointed . We did not cook much because our “college kid” wanted to take advantage of eating out at all the cool places around town that he usually can not afford . The coffee selection and creamers were yummy and made our morning coffee time very enjoyable and relaxing . The bathroom was sparkling clean ! They had nice hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, bath gel and nice white, fluffy towels . The bed that we slept in was very comfortable ! We are currently trying to lose weight and it’s hard to do when traveling . I asked for a bathroom scale so I could monitor things . They were more than happy to provide a nice digital scale! They had a notebook with great suggestions for places to eat and things to do ! There is so much to do in the area . We really enjoyed seeing Jamestown & Yorktown because we had on a previous trip spent most of our time in Colonial Williamsburg. I would definitely stay again . Next time I would love to slow down more and enjoy a fire on that beautiful patio!

  • David and Lauren's place was a steal. They responded to any questions I had quickly, and I can't say enough for how great the space is. Book it if you're reading this far!

    Nathan2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • This little spot is just as advertised: super clean, stylish, perfectly located! As other reviews mention, you can hear people in other apartments quite well, but we just used the fan app on our phones for white noise while we slept, and it worked out well. We love this place and will definitely book again!

  • We visited for St Paddy's week, when Richmond first started shutting everything down due to covid-19. We canceled all our plans to go out and still had a great trip. Michael's space is so gorgeous and comfortable, and Katarina was kind and easy to communicate with. We were sad to leave!

    Remi2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • What a Beautiful space and wonderful tenants! This was the best Air B n B my wife and I have ever stayed in. We will be back very soon as long as we are able! You won’t be disappointed if you get the opportunity to stay here!

    Garrett2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Michael’s place is exactly as pictured! Loved exploring the books and and of course ALL THE LIGHT! Very convenient, ample parking, and was never more than 5 minutes away from anything we wanted to do. I hope to rebook next time I’m in Richmond.

  • Communication before we arrived was quick and thorough. The house itself was spotless and extremely stylish. The interior design was well done. The master bed was one of the most comfortable I've been in. Easily one of the best Air BnB experiences I've had. I look forward to returning.

There is a spacious master bedroom and large bathroom.
A stay at The Burgs Nest will assure you a safe and naturally beautiful space both inside and outside. Everything in The Burgs Nest is fresh and fun. You’ll enjoy a very private entrance and deck and there is plenty of parking included for you. The kitchen has a full size fridge, toaster, microwave and stove. Pots, pans, dishes and glasses are provided. We have ‘staple’ foods such as catsup, mustard, cooking oil, coffee and tea, in the kitchen for your enjoyment. There is also extra space for your shopping finds and your ‘stuff.’ Guests rave about how comfy our pillows and beds are, too!
We love the proximity to all the Williamsburg attractions and activities but we also love the close proximity to some excellent antiquing, thrifting, outlet shopping and some of the Commonwealth's best restaurants. We're close to several fantastic grocery markets and with Williamsburg Winery within walking distance, the location is perfect!
  • This house was an amazing little get away. Clean and well maintained. The location is perfectly located.

  • Maureen's place is amazing! Unique, private, and quite large for the value. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!

    Sean2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Burgs Nest is an awesome place to stay if you want to explore all that Williamsburg and surrounding areas has to offer. It has a great home-like feeling that can't be duplicated at a motel/hotel and it appears just as advertised in the listing. Maureen is a great & thoughtful host who had the place ready for us and was available if we needed anything else. I highly recommend a stay here and I know I will be back!!!

    Brian2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! I knew from the reviews and pictures The Burg’s Nest would be the cozy perfect place to rest our heads but my expectations we’re met and then some! I’ve been having bad luck finding places to my own liking on Airbnb, kinda hit or miss. But my hope has been restored!!! The stairs getting in were a little tough to see at night for check in. But as soon as we entered a sweet note and tidy place made the climb worth it! Everything with the apartment was surprisingly spacious and the beds were sooo comfortable!

    Kayleigh2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great little in law suite in a nice quiet little spot. Host was extremely friendly, and ready at a moments notice to help with any issues.

    Peter2020-01-26T00:00:00Z

Couples or groups up to three people (additional rate applies for 3rd person).
Williamsburg Va. is a vacation hub with places like Busch Gardens, Water Country, Great Wolf Lodge, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement, WIlliamsburg Winery, Movie Tavern, golf courses, putt putt, driving range, batting cages, bowling, go carts, walking trails, Orange Theory, beaches, fishing, shopping malls and so much more that I can't list it all.
  • This was among one of the best stays I’ve ever had at an Airbnb. The hosts are incredibly hospitable and welcoming, and they’ve thought of absolutely everything. The space is clean and well decorated, and they have very thoughtful amenities. They are also incredibly knowledgeable about the area and have all sorts of interesting history to share! We would love to stay with them again!

    Rachel2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • They have a cozy home. A very welcoming couple. They care. Your comfort level of their hospitality is important to them. They're located 1 mile away from Panera bread and other stores. Centrally located to Williamsburg and Jamestown. Just a few miles from the York town parkway. The outside was well lit at night. Easy to see the house and drive. Very secure. The Cherry trees were in bloom! Eddie will have the most amazing flowers this summer!

    David2020-03-14T00:00:00Z

  • Reginald and Edreana are wonderful hosts. Their space is very comfortable and inviting. We felt right at home. The bed was very comfortable. Their house is accessible to the highway and close to the outlets, Busch Gardens and a lot of great restaurants. We would definitely stay at their home again.

  • Very spacious bedroom with a couch and tv on a swivel. Big bathroom and the 2 sinks was a plus. Mini frig is exceptionally cold. Reggie is great to talk to but understands the meaning of space. We often felt like we were the only ones in the house. Located between Jamestown and Williamsburg, about 6 miles(13-15 minutes) from each one.

Jackson Ward is a fantastic, central location in and of itself for history & great food and also for accessing other great parts of the city. There is a bar just at the end of my block - the Gwar Bar (yes, owned by the metal band of the same name). Saison restaurant and it's adjacent market (mostly beer and snacks) are three blocks away. Sahara Mediterranean Restaurant, Bar Solita, Max's, Comfort, J Kogi, an Ice Cream Parlor, Mama J's, Bistro 27, Tarrant's, and Quirk rooftop bar are just a few places all within a 5 minute walk. The closest grocery store is a 10 minute walk away. This is just a snapshot of what is within close-range.

  • Great spot.

    Randall2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so pretty and quaint. Quiet location and an easy walk to almost anywhere. There's a billboard of places to check out, which was a huge help. The best part was definitely the cats, they were so SWEET

    Grace2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing restored home in historic district. Everything was sparkly clean, and the bathroom has some really neat touches.

    Aaron2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay, heated bathroom toilet was really nice. There are pets, but they are super friendly and petting them definitely helped me after getting some bad news while on the trip. Overall great stay!

    Aaron2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place, close to everything that's worth going to and great vibes

    Justin2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Tara is an excellent host with a lovely space, very cool bathroom, easy on-street parking, close to everything downtown. It will be my first choice whenever I go to Richmond.

    Tom2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place close to VCU. Clean, quiet, easy to find and seemed to be in a nice area of town. Cat in the common area was very friendly and enjoyed playing with her even though I’m not even a cat person. Tara was also nice and welcoming. She went above and beyond as a host. The shared bathroom was only shared with one other person it seemed and I was able to use it whenever I needed to. Would recommend her place to future travelers looking for a quiet place to stay.

My place is close to Williamsburg, William & Mary, Busch Gardens, Kiskiak Golf and York River State Park. Nearby Interstate 64 and Route 199 provide easy access. You’ll love my place because wild turkey run the backyard at times. Its rural setting has abundant parking. Events okay. The main floor is wheelchair accessible. My place is good for couples, solos, business retreats, reunions, or families with kids (human).
Grassy area available for lawn bowling. Pond.
  • Very homey atmosphere. A good place to put your feet up, especially after touring Williamsburg and the area.

    Lisa2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • My family with several children enjoyed three full days at Colonial Williamsburg, and Elaine's place was just perfect for our needs. The drive was short and easy to the town, and the location was quiet and peaceful. The house (including the beds!) was very comfortable, and the upstairs apartment was a fun and functional space for our three girls. Elaine is an excellent host, who communicates well and made our fun time at CW even better. In short, a great place to stay when in the area!

    Jason2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Loved staying here! We were in town for a mock trial competition and the house was perfect for practicing and having space to do our work!

    Harleen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect for our purposes.

    Mark2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a cozy spot that feels like your grandmother might pop around the corner at any moment, you will enjoy Elaine’s. It felt much more like someone’s home than any other air bnb we’ve stayed in. The kitchen was well stocked with food for breakfast, which was so helpful since we arrived late. We could not get the WiFi to work, but other than that, it was a great place to stay with our family of 6 to tour colonial Williamsburg.

    Kimberly2020-01-19T00:00:00Z

  • Lots of room, quiet setting, nice amenities (washer/dryer/dishwasher). Cell service is spotty in the area. At the house it's pretty much non-existent (I have Verizon). Great stay, as advertised... Would stay again.

    Isaac2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Walking into Elaine’s home was like visiting the homes we were raised in....Very inviting and homey. Breakfast items in the refrigerator were appreciated by us as we were on the go all of our days. It is placed out in the country with a tree-lined drive to the home. Quiet and peaceful.

Bathroom is new and modern and the kitchen is the best stocked one I've had at an Airbnb. There was everything and anything you could think of. If you need to stay by the convention center I would stay here! Thank you Amanda for having us!

    Anuraj2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful place located just outside the heart of Richmond. The space was clean and welcoming. Even being in the city the noise level was low, Only being loud if a car had a ridiculous exhaust. All in all I would recommend this place as an amazing stay. You can even have a fantastic brunch at Lucy’s restaurant just down the stairs.

This is a charming historic cottage that backs up to the Colonial Pkwy. Across the road is an equestrian farm that offers a magnificent sunset view from the brick patio. The back of the property is surrounded by a fairytale wooded landscape. Minutes from Jamestown Island.. the James town ferry... Colonial Williamsburg and much more including Busch Gardens and water country. We've had many guests find this location convenient when visiting for William and Mary Events.
One flight of stairs gets you to the second upstairs bedroom and bath area. I want to assure guests that we will deploy all methods of sanitizing at our disposal. I have operated my childcare center for over 25 years and studied microbiology. We will do our best to address these concerns for our guests. I also would ask if when you first enter the cottage if we can make a habit of washing our hands for the 20 second period suggested. If any guests has symptoms before, during or after arrival to please notify your host immediately. There are two local hospitals. Sentara and Riversided. I will keep all guests updated to any and all information in regards to the virus. I would like to think that traveling by car and staying in a more individualized space as is an ABNB would reduce the risk. We will do our best.
The nextdoor neighbor has chickens. Across the road is a horse farm. During your stay you may spot deer, owls and many other birds. The neighborhood is very pet friendly. If you are bringing your dog(s), please be aware of leash rules when exploring outside.
  • Lovely cottage, great amenities, great location.

  • This cottage is a wonderful value in a great location! It’s so quaint and tranquil. I stayed here with 3 other people, and it fit us perfectly. It’s 10 minutes from all the sites in Williamsburg and Jamestown as well, so it’s very convenient. Sharon was a phenomenal host and went above and beyond while hosting us. We would 100% recommend staying here and would do so again.

    Curtis2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, wonderful host. Lots of charm. And probably the best stocked place I've ever stayed. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

  • LOVED staying at this cottage. It was so cute and cozy inside and my daughter loved the kid's room upstairs (the toys kept her busy for most of the weekend). We also loved being able to look out the window in the morning and see deer and chickens in the back yard.

    Shannon2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The house is adorable. The location was very good. It was easy to get to places in a short period of time. The house was clean and extremely well stocked with things you would need in the kitchen. Sharon responded almost immediately to any question. We would definitely recommend the cottage.

  • Colonial Cottage II was such a treat! The house was spacious and bright even on a rainy day, and everything was sparkling clean. Sharon was very accessible and helpful and she has thoughtfully provided many amenities in her charming cottage. The location is peaceful and so easy for W&M and Colonial Williamsburg - less than 15 min drive - and totally worth it.

    Jennifer2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay. Sharon was a great host and made sure we had everything that we needed. The cottage was close to everything in Williamsburg. Nice, quiet, relaxing, and dog friendly.

Our charming little bungalow reminds us of the fairy tales of our childhood. The history of the surrounding area is utterly fascinating, and worth learning about. 5 min. drive to Colonial Williamsburg, 1 queen and 1 full bed in two distinctly charming bedrooms.

Very quiet yet close to main attractions
  • We enjoyed our stay a Dave’s place even though it was a quick one. We were on a road trip and this was the perfect place to call home on our travels! We enjoyed relaxing for the night and Dave was great to recommend places that delivered dinner. We enjoyed watching a little tv before a good nights sleep! Thank you Dave, we hope to come back when we have more time to enjoy the area!

  • Lovely place and plentiful amenities. Stayed there with three other friends and had a relaxing, serene experience. Cottage was spacious enough for all of us and met all of our expectations-- we even stayed an extra night! The hosts were very responsive to our questions and we had a great time. Highly recommend!

  • Great place to stay. Definitely worth the money and would stay there again. If you have trouble with the lockbox. I had to use two hands cause the lever wouldn’t pull out easily.

  • My husband the city guy prefers more light and livelier ambiance but I thought it was perfect. It’s an adorable little house in a woodsy area with lots of peace and quiet but a close drive to everything. Clean & comfortable for our family of four. We don’t foresee being in the area again as we were only in town for a wedding but would stay here again if we did.

  • Sean was great with communication leading up to our stay. Check in is easy and convenient. The apartment is cozy, inviting, and set up nicely for guests. The area is really nice for walking around, including a couple ponds and parks. I highly recommend staying here.

  • We really enjoyed our stay here. It's in a great location, about 10 minutes walk from lots of shops and restaurants, and 5 minutes walk from a really nice park. Parking on the street was easy and the space was nice. It is a basement, so the ceilings were low and it wouldn't be a good stay for anyone above 6'5". My partner was 6'3" and was fine in the space. I would definitely stay again.

    Allura2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and so nice! 😊

    Ronnie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sean’s place was everything we expected and more! Perfect for our short little week stay and so close to anything you want to do around the city. Well stocked with anything that you may need (linens, towels, kitchen appliances, etc) and Sean was quick to respond if we needed anything along the way. We especially loved the shower!

    Zach2020-02-21T00:00:00Z

  • Sean’s place was exactly how the pictures showed.

    Michael2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sean's place is thoughtful and made me feel comfortable for a working 2 week stay. There were outlets where I needed them, a comfy bed, warm heater for the living space (winter), a spacious shower, comfy seating, and a kitchen to write home about. Restaurants, green space and activities, were within walking distance. And, as for street parking, I never had to park too far away - most often right at the door. I felt welcomed in the home, like a good friend who needs to crash while having her own space, as well.

    Alisa2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great space, very clean, stylish & very convenient. We had all of the amenities we needed for a great stay, and the kitchen was well appointed. Sean is super proactive and very easy to communicate with!

My renovated townhouse is located in the historic Fan District; within walking distance of dozens of restaurants and VCU's Monroe Campus. The guest room has a private entrance through the garden and off-street parking.
Come and explore the heart of Richmond's historic Fan District. My house on Floyd, is blocks away from VCU, hailing distance from the James River, and a brisk walk to Downtown or Carytown. Built in 1889, the modest frame house is set back slightly from its neighbors. It nestles behind an iron fence and arched gate, in an established garden. It was the first house built on the block and has a fenced garden at the rear of the house. Guests will stay in my first-floor apartment, in which I live, as well. There is one shared bathroom, two steps away from your room. You have a double bed with a memory foam topper. There is hanging and bin space for your belongings, but, there are many books and art supplies already in the room. Your room has a private entrance to the garden and a reserved off-street parking spot. The recently completed garden screen house is a pleasant place to enjoy a drink. The guest room has a new full-size bed and mattress with a memory foam. An iBed cot, with foam mattress, is available for a restless sleeper. There will be a small fee for set up. There are down and feather pillows and soft cotton sheets and fluffy towels. There are extra blankets and pillows, for your use. Should you like, I will make a carafe of coffee; there is an assortment of teas. You are welcome to use the refrigerator and the stove for ligh cooking. The 26" monitor is equipped with Chromecast. You can cast your Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and other accounts for viewing. Wifi is available. The house is within walking distance of thirty restaurants, coffee shops and bars. There are museums, galleries, parks and the James River, all within a short walk or drive. Carytown, a dynamic shopping and entertainment district is a mile away.
The Fan is filled with wonderful architecture and interesting, creative people. My favorite Cuban restaurant is two blocks away, Foo Dog, a half block, and the James River and Hollywood Cemetery are a twenty minute walk, a bike ride or a short drive away.
  • Catherine is an amazing host with a wonderful space. She is kind, gracious, and a wonderful conversationalist. Communication and check-in were exceptional. I can't wait to visit again -- highly, HIGHLY recommended. P.S.: Jacob is the cutest dog ever!

  • Comfortable bed, charming space and a neighborhood that was fun to explore on foot (w helpful tips provided in the room). Secure bike storage in a locked yard was nice, too. Catherine was prompt w communication, kind w morning coffee, and really interesting to talk to. Her sweet dog, Jacob, is a balm for anyone missing their own dogs while traveling!

  • Catherine’s kind and friendly personality put us immediately at ease. Her wonderfully decorated home is filled with natural plants, art and her lovable dog, Jacob. She had resource books on local restaurants and many of Richmond’s attractions. Her coffee was delicious. Our visit was just what our traveling bones needed. Thank you, Catherine.

Fulfill your childhood dream of camping out in a treehouse! From this central spot, explore RVA to your heart's content. Then, relax on the deck and enjoy the magic of the trees. — •Airbnb “Top 20 Places to Stay in VA” •Named "Best of Richmond" by Style Magazine •Featured in Airbnb article on hospitality •Named one of "8 Great Airbnbs" in the U.S. by Inside Hook — •Complementary bikes •Bathroom, kitchenette & lounge in basement of host house •Dog-friendly — Social media: @trailside_treehouse
Here's your chance to fulfill that childhood dream of running away and camping out in a treehouse. This is not a tiny house wrapped around a tree or a glamorous treehouse complete with running water and a kitchen. Instead, this is an authentic treehouse that we built for our nephew in 2014, complete with reclaimed redwood walls and windows from our old house. It's an authentic kid-like treehouse experience; a space devoted to the stuff of childhood dreams. As we designed the space, we asked ourselves one question: what would we have wanted in a treehouse as kids? The Trailside Treehouse is our answer to that question--it's a magnum opus to childhood. Please note: There is a zipline on the property. Per our insurance company, guests are not allowed to use it. Please prepare your children ahead of time so they're not bummed when they arrive! WHAT TO EXPECT: The treehouse isn’t an inexpensive place to stay. It’s not simply a comfortable room to call home as you pass through town, as are many Airbnb’s. Instead, it’s an unparalleled experience that we hope transforms our guests by bringing them back to their childlike centers. It’s a place to practice juggling or learn new yo-yo tricks. It’s a place to flip through a book about bowling rules and get curious about things you haven’t wondered about since you were a kid. There are notes to discover in the nooks and crannies. There are games you may not have played with since you were a child. There's a bin of junk food and a fridge with sodas. We've stocked the treehouse with activities that we hope reminds you of the curiosity you had as a child. We want you to feel that your time here is invaluable—that it is a priceless trip that sets you up for a transformative week or month or year. Reinvigorates. Rejuvenates. Renews your very sense of self. VALUABLE MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME We know the treehouse experience is an investment that many families save for. Our goal is to provide you with value beyond your expectations so that you truly feel that your time exploring here with your friends and family was worth every cent. Our guests who get the most value from the experience are those guests who are willing to leave their phones in their bags and truly live in the simplicity and wonder of the moment. We want you to imagine that you are your 10-year old self and have packed a backpack with all of your favorite things and run away to your neighbor's treehouse in the woods. Even those guests bringing kids should feel ready to loosen the reigns of responsibility for awhile to just enjoy the space and get optimum value from their time here. ••• DESIGN AND TOUR HISTORY This two-story treehouse was designed by renowned Richmond architect, Henry Tenser, and modeled after a western firetower. It was featured (alongside the modern home where the hosts live) on the 2017 Virginia Home and Garden Tour as well as three Westover Hills Neighborhood Association tours and the Modern Richmond Tour. ••• TRAILSIDE LOCATION IN THE CITY The treehouse sits at the top of a wooded gully that leads to the James River Park System and is mere yards from the popular Buttermilk Trail--one of the most celebrated urban single-track trail systems in the entire country. For trail-lovers and adventure-lovers, you simply can't find a better spot to stay the night in Richmond, Virginia. ••• BRIDGE TO CHILDHOOD To access the treehouse, you'll cross a wooden bridge and enter onto the main deck. If you're ready to play, jump into the twisty tube slide and play on the playground equipment beneath the main floor. If you're ready to relax, take a seat on the deck and enjoy your wooded surroundings. ••• PORCH LEVEL Enter the main floor screened porch through the screened doors. The main floor is screened in on all four sides and features two hammock swings--the perfect place to read a book or recount your day on the trail as you rock amongst the trees--mosquito-free (a rare summer treat for Richmond). When more than 4 people wish to stay in the treehouse, this first floor can be transformed into an additional sleeping area with a fold-up memory foam mattress or single cots. Just let us know if you need those! ••• SLEEPING LEVEL The sleeping area on the second story is located up a knee-hole ladder and through a trap door. The second story is surrounded by windows on all four sides, including two fish-eye windows so you can poke your head into the concave plexiglass and get a look at the ground three stories below. The second story also features a balcony, which is accessible through a screen door. You'll sleep soundly under the corrugated corten steel roof. The sleeping quarters features a queen bed with a memory foam mattress and a bunkbed cot. ••• LOUNGE, BATHROOM AND KITCHENETTE Inside the host house, you'll have full, private use of our basement, which includes a temperature-controlled lounge area with a TV, sleeper sofa, bean bag chair, kitchenette with sink, microwave, and Keurig, and full bathroom. The entrance to the lower level is private and accessible from the exterior of the home. The bike room is also in this basement space. You are welcome to take out a bike as long as you sign a waiver and wear a helmet! There are 4 bikes to use for free. ••• GUEST COUNT AND SLEEPING COMFORTABLY Please let us know in advance how many guests are in your party so we can set up beds, set out the appropriate number of towels, pillows, blankets and make sure there are enough snacks and drinks. Our standard guest limit is 6. If you want to bring a larger party, we have some options. Let us know and we will help you figure out whether the options suit your travel style, including the sleeper sofa inside and putting two children per level of the cot, and sleeping in any of the hammocks. ~ Standard sleeping arrangements are as follows (let us know if you'd like something different): -1-2 guests: queen bed on 2nd floor -3-4 guests: queen bed + bunkbed cot on 2nd floor -5-6 guests: queen bed + bunkbed cot on 2nd floor + fold-up memory foam mattress on 1st floor NOTE: when there are families with more than two kids, we recommend fitting two kids per level of the bunkbed cot so everyone can sleep on the same level ~~ ••• DOGS ARE WELCOME! If you’re bringing your dog(s), please let us know. Our dog is very friendly. Single night options are available upon request and availability. Contact us for more info. We can’t wait to host your adventure!!!
Westover Hills Neighborhood is located in the heart of Richmond, Virginia. It's a highly sought after area due to its easy proximity to the James River and James River Park Trail System, both of which border the neighborhood. Riverside Drive, on which the Trailside Treehouse is located, is a popular Virginia scenic byway. Expect to see runners, bikers, cyclists, walkers, and more as you cruise down this windy road.
  • Wonderful weekend in Richmond! Truly a memorable experience with great hosts.

  • We planned a special night for my six year old son for a special sleep over, with two other friends and one other dad that spent the night in the Trailside Tree house that will not soon be forgotten. The boys had a wonderful time exploring in the tree house as well as going "BigFoot" hunting on the trails during the day and grilling hot dogs on the open campfire and telling spooky stories by the fire. We picked an extra cold 22 deg night but the heated blankets kept the boys and the dads plenty worm. The boys were worn out at by nightime and slept like a rock until morning where we saw the morning sunrise over the trees. The boys can't stop talking about what a good time they had on their "Boys Night Out". Thank you Carrie for being such a great host and putting up with a bunch of loud laughing little boys for the evening. The night was about making memories with friends and you helped make that happen.

  • Just book it! What a dream weekend. My group of 4 went "glamping" here in February when the low hit 25 degrees and night and we were plenty warm enough with the heated blankets and pads. The treehouse is so close to DT Richmond and all the trails along the James we didn't run out of things to do and actually wanted to spend the most time at the treehouse. They thought of everything you could possibly need and more!

  • Delightful! Cozy sleeping space for us & our boys, gorgeous view and magical atmosphere. I wish we’d booked for a couple of nights rather than just one, so we could have done more exploring and playing. Next time : )

  • Thoughtful touches, great communication, permission to be a kid again. Awesome!

  • Incredible experience! Would love to come back if I can!

  • We ended up staying on the coldest day of January (so far) where temps got down to sub-freezing, but it wasn’t a problem since Carrie provides you with heated blankets and space heaters that’ll keep you toasty throughout the night. It would take me several paragraphs to go through all the thoughtful details that Carrie puts into making the treehouse stay amazing (like the trailside treehouse stickers as souvenirs). You could probably piece together a good picture with all the other reviews, but I recommend just staying here and checking out the place and the surrounding area for yourself! Definitely going to come back!

Modern studio space with queen size bed and comfy couch in private guest house. 1 bath with spacious shower and simple kitchenette. A great overnight space or space perfect for a stay at home vacation.
This newly built guest house is situated in Richmond’s beautiful Forest Hill neighborhood. Space is minimally furnished and cozy. It has a very comfortable queen size bed, spacious shower, Roku TV, a lot of natural lighting, wifi access and surround sound. Due to the coronavirus, we’re taking extra care to disinfect frequently touched surfaces between reservations. Creating a clean space is our primary objective during this challenging time.
Enjoy a visit to Richmond’s Forest Hill neighborhood. House is located .5 miles from Outpost bike shop and grocery market, Crossroads Coffee Ice Cream and craft beer, WPA Southside bakery and Laura Lee’s restaurant. We are just a block from the best Saturday morning Farmer's Market in the city. All an easy walk or bike ride away! Bordering the beautiful, historic James River park. Walking distance to Belle Isle and Brown’s Island. Visitors of the park can enjoy kayaking and canoeing, biking, fishing, rock climbing, rapids, scenic views, walking trails, wildlife, historic sites and much more.
  • Brittaney and Drew's space is beautiful! Modern, minimal, and just plain pretty. We had a wonderful time exploring Richmond, and their Airbnb is conveniently located about 10-ish minutes (or less) away from everywhere we wanted to go. We brought our pup with us and he loved playing in their fenced in yard. Brittaney recommended some fun restaurants and places to check out. There is a great Saturday morning farmers market a block from their house and great walking trails also a block away. Pretty perfect location! Currently, there is not a lot of storage or places to hang clothes/unpack your bags inside the Airbnb, but I believe they are working on solutions for that. Other than that, everything was wonderful and easy! Would definitely recommend staying here!

  • This place is so nice! Clean, spacious and in a perfect location for a stop on our drive from NJ to FL with our dogs. This is our second time staying here and it’s on our list of favorites. The decor is modern with beautiful wood touches , the bed is very comfortable and the shower space is welcoming after a long day of travel. The neighborhood and nearby park are perfect for walking. Great coffee shop nearby. Brittany is a wonderful host!

  • This was the perfect place to stay. The place is so cute, very clean, smells great and the location is amazing. There were fresh flowers and live plants in the house and coffee for us. We will be back again.

  • This guest house was absolutely stunning! This spot was in an ideal location—just steps from great birding spots and delicious food at neighboring restaurants and bakeries. Parking was a breeze and I felt secure being able to see my vehicle from the guest house (plus the neighborhood is super safe). Brittaney provided tons of recommendations at check-in. She truly went above and beyond by providing an early check-in despite a late check-out by the previous guest. Both my pup and I felt right at home. I would come back in a heartbeat and wish I could have stayed longer!

  • Great space. I traveled with my husband, eight month old daughter, and two large dogs and Brittaney's space worked perfectly for us. This airbnb made traveling easy as there was coffee and a pour over, shampoo, a pack n play, and a water bowl for the dogs. Little Nickel and Laura Lee's were great dinner spots; the ability to walk to trails from the airbnb is outstanding. I would definitely recommend this airbnb to anyone traveling to RVA.
