Places to stay in Sturminster Newton
My place is close to great views, walking, cycling, restaurants and dining, and family-friendly activities. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and furry friends (pets)
The Lodge is very warm and cosy and has well equipped kitchen with all amenities such as washing machines, microwave, coffee maker etc. It has its own private garden looking over fields and hills in distance and very appealing views.
From the Lodge you can walk or cycle to the town and local pub, restaurants and coffee shops. There is a well used cycle path which runs from Sturminster Newton for approximately 15 miles and there is numerous other beautiful walks in the area. The beaches of Poole and Bournemouth are approx. a 40 minute drive away. Also the towns of Dorchester and Weymouth are within easy reach.
  • Excellent, as always.

  • Homestead Lodge is in the most tranquil of settings. We spent a lovely few days there. The amenities are great, with a fantastic kitchen, wonderful cabin style living room, and an extremely comfortable bed. And there are several pubs and some decent shops within walking distance. Plus many lovely walks in the area.

  • What an amazing find and a 5 star experience. We stayed for 4 nights at the end of August. We arrived early evening and instantly felt relaxed. We sat on the verandah, had a BBQ and enjoyed the peace and views around us. The bed was extremely comfy and we slept so well. Everything throughout the stay was homely and comfortable and we wish we could have stayed longer. We will return when we are next in the area.

  • The Lodge is perfect for a holiday in this lovely area of Dorset. Very comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean. It is certainly bigger than it looks in the pictures and is private and peaceful with lovely views. It was good to know that our dog was completely secure within the fenced area around the Lodge. The hosts live nearby and were prompt to answer any queries. We hope to return for longer.

  • Lovely little cottage, in a fantastic quiet location. Parking was simple on the road at the back of the property. Was a little chilly when we arrived, but along with the storage heaters, and the real log ‘effect’ fire, which really kicks out some heat, there’s also a convector heater in the bedroom and an electric oil filled radiator for when the weather is particularly cold. The kitchen contains all the basic necessities required for general cooking and eating. The seating in the lounge is comfy and there’s a nice little table to sit and eat any meals at. The bedroom is very cosy and the bathroom, was nice and warm, the only negative would have to be that as the shower is in a bath, it’s not easy to stand under, due to the low ceilings. My husband ended up having to kneel. My husband did manage to bump his head a few times, mainly upstairs where the ceilings are particularly low, but this to be expected for anyone 6 foot tall, when staying in a quaint old thatch cottage. Everything in the cottage was spotlessly clean. There are no street lights outside the cottage, so worth taking a torch (or using a light on a mobile phone), if you’re walking to and from a car during dark evenings. The positive to this, is it being really great to be able to see all the stars, on a clear night, which we can’t see at home due to all the light pollution. There’s a really useful folder on the window ledge in the lounge, containing lots of local information, places to eat, takeaways, walking routes, and places to visit. Places we ate: We had planned to eat at the White Horse Inn, across the road, but unfortunately they aren't serving food between 11th and 29th January 2020 (bad timing), however, drove just over a mile to the centre of Sturminster Newton and ate at The Swan Inn, which had a great menu, including vegan options, so recommend it. Also, ate at Mumbai Bay with some friends, though the initial service for our drinks and the taking of our food order were a little slow, once ordered the food came quickly and was enjoyed by all, so again, recommended. Other than Sturminster Newton, there are some great little villages to visit and for anyone who remembers the little boy pushing his bike up the hill with his delivery of Hovis bread, in the 1970’s, I’d definitely recommend visiting Gold Hill, Shaftsbury.

  • Very cosy cottage in a quiet, rural location with the local pub just a few paces away. We had everything we needed and were perfectly comfortable and warm. Hinton St Mary is a picturesque little village with lots of places nearby to walk and explore. We had a relaxing break over new year which was just what we needed. Thank you!

    Spike2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Alice's thatched cottage opposite The White Horse pub is the kind of place that would send Americans completely potty. It's as pretty as the picture on the front of a jigsaw puzzle. Inside everything is as clean as a whistle and there's all that you could need for a perfect stay. If you're very tall you're going to stoop a bit upstairs but even so you'll be wowed by the cottage's utter charm.

Yew Tree View is close to countryside footpaths and great British pubs. You’ll love the comfy bed, the quiet, secluded location and the great value for money. Yew Tree View looks out over the gardens and fields, and includes a small kitchenette. The property is situated within the grounds of a family home next door. There is a small convenience store around a 10-minute walk away, and 2 pubs within a 5-minute drive. Dorchester and Salisbury and Bath, are all within an hour's drive.
The accommodation is a studio apartment with a king-size bed, sofa, dining table and TV in the living space. Adjoining this is a kitchenette which leads to the cloakroom with a toilet and sink. A separate electric shower cubicle is next to this.
Marnhull is a well loved Dorset village with a local pub dating back to the 15th century. It is referred to in Thomas Hardy's classic 'Tess of the D' Urbervilles'. There are a multitude of footpaths which begin right outside the property. Close by are National Trust properties, Stone Henge and the world renowned Jurassic Coast is 45 minutes drive away.

  • Stayed overnight for a business trip. Found the chalet easily, was greeted on arrival by the host who ensured I had all I needed & thoughfully provided me a jug of milk as I had forgotten this. Very cosy, secure accomodation, clean and exactly what wqas needed. As a female travelling alone, I felt very safe and comfortable here and would recommend this accomodation for any colleagues needing to undertake the same trip.

  • I had the most fun at Julia’s dad’s fabulous pub/inn. The hospitality was unparalleled and everyone was extremely friendly. The rooms are as you would expect from an oldy worldy pub. No thrills but clean and cosy and the single bed very comfortable. The bathroom is clean and airy. Altogether a really great place to stay and sample the atmosphere and a very fine Welsh single malt. Mark makes a great coffee even at 6am!!! Wondrous place.

The old milking parlour (sleeps 2) is at the end of a private drive in an ex-dairy farm surrounded by fields deep in the Dorset countryside. Stalbridge is a fantastic location for long walks, cycling and pub lunches. The barn is a large self-contained studio with a well equipped kitchenette and bathroom with an outdoor seating area situated within an equestrian training centre close to our family home.
There is a large family owned supermarket within a 5 minute drive, Sherborne is 15 minutes away and Weymouth, Salisbury and Bath are under an hour by car. Templecome station is 15 minutes away and we will pick you up if arriving by train.
There are multiple walking routes from the farm.
  • I got a really fast response to my query about location. Once booked communication continued to be excellent - as were the directions. We had a lovely stay, the place was clean & welcoming. The bed is very comfortable & there is a powerful shower. The fresh eggs & bread were appreciated. Only had a couple of days this time but hoping to return. Thankyou, excellent hosts.

  • A beautiful barn conversion - lovely light space, very comfortable and a beautiful location. Jonathan was a great host.

    Erin2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We found Jonathan's place to be very welcoming, with freshly baked bread, fresh eggs, tea coffee etc. We stayed there for four nights and Jonathan kept in touch to see if everything was ok and to see if we would like any more bread or supplies. The converted farm building was very clean, tidy and well decorated to a high standard. A very attentive host and we would definitely stay there again.

Poppy the bell tent is a twinkly quirky place full of wildlife and love. You can watch swallows and swifts in the fields beyond the bell tent you will find your own patio with fire pit/bbq and raised decking. We have very dark skies to view the stars. Your own cooking facilities for tea and coffee a real home from home here. Come in for a full English or have a lux hamper delivered to you. Our garden is just off an acre, with Poppy at the bottom of the garden. The pub garden is across the rd.
It’s peace and quiet here. Just fields behind the tent, we have vintage furniture from Bali and a proper bed and mattress. There’s plenty to do too gather twigs for your woodburner and relax with a hot chocolate and toast marshmallows on the fire pit.
We’re right next door to the Fiddleford inn
  • We stayed for one night in October, it was super cozy and a very unique experience. Alison is a great host and we had everything we needed. Highly recommended!

  • Thanks for being so welcoming into your yurt and home. Breakfast was incredible as was everything! The extra touches in the yurt were great and shower was lush. Love the doggo and the chickens! Will certainly recommend and hopefully be back soon!

  • Amazing bell tent which is comfortable and Alison the host has really thought about all the small things and finishing touches, you really do have everything you need, including some lovely little treats. Alison was a brilliant host! The outdoor bathroom was really nice, lovely hot shower, mirrors, towels and compost toilet (which isn’t as scary as it sounds), it was a great experience. Location is perfect for dog walks and the pub next door is dog friendly and does nice food. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend

    Rebecca2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Alison is a great host, nothing is too much trouble and there are lots of little touches that make your stay special. Poppy the bell tent is quirky and special with a super comfy bed and lots of cushions and throws. The fire pit/barbi is great for cooking or just snuggling up round to watch the bats fly past. The shower shack is in a league of its own with instant hot water and upcycled shower tray and sink. A lovely relaxing stay in the heart of Dorset

    Christine2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful bell tent in lovely surroundings. Has everything you could possibly need inside, comfy bed, blankets a plenty, towels, treats, cute lights, you name it. Super friendly welcoming host that made us feel at home immediately. Nothing was too much trouble and it was so lovely having breakfast brought to us to enjoy outside (or inside) so we could enjoy the view. We absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend.

    Hayleigh2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Alison is very accommodating and was a all round great host.

    Adam2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • AMAZING! It’s so much more amazing than I expected. There is fairy lights everywhere, fire inside and outside the tent, so many little touches like a hamper of snacks, marshmallows and cereal and there’s electrify to charge your phone. So cosy I want to go back already. Alison is lovely and can’t do enough for you. I just loved it!

    Fiona2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I took our three children (aged 3, 4 and 8) to stay in Poppy the Bell Tent. Alison had messaged me to find out our children's ages and had provided a whole host of games etc to keep them entertained, which was so thoughtful. The children loved the trampoline and the chickens and Alison's dog is just super cute and friendly. Alison had thought of everything and there were so many little touches we weren't expecting which made it really special. Communication throughout was excellent and Alison met us on arrival and showed us around. We were made to feel so welcome and at home. The pub next door, The Fiddleford in is a very friendly pub and the waitress brought out games to occupy the children while we had dinner. There is a soft play a 10 minute drive away and a co op very close by also which is convenient. We enjoyed using the fire pit for a BBQ and to toast marshmallows. It rained and was very windy whilst we were staying, but the tent remained perfectly dry and it all just added to the excitement for the children! I would definitely recommend Alison and her lovely Poppy and hope to stay there again some time.

  • If you are looking for a charming place to stay in a village at the heart of the peaceful countryside look no further, this is the spot for you. A lovely personality, Sarah is a wonderfully kind and considerate host, someone who clearly enjoys meeting new people, and goes that extra mile to ensure guest comfort and satisfaction. The accommodations are delightfully cosy in a warm, beautifully decorated charming cottage - with quite a fascinating history of its own, incidentally(!); the bed super comfy, the dog friendly atmosphere relaxing & congenial. Indeed, I can wholeheartedly recommend her home to fellow visitors looking for somewhere quiet to unwind, and happily anticipate staying at her place again on my next trip to Hardy country.

  • What’s not to love about staying with Louisa, Donald and their gorgeous dogs (who are kept well out of the way if you’re not a dog person... but I AM!) The room is very comfortable. Stunning views out over the garden and ridgeway beyond. Great bathroom - especially if you like a lie-downable bath with lovely hot water. Breakfast? Way more than you can eat and all delicious. Do it. Book it. Fabulous

  • Lovely, stylish, bright and well equipped cottage in a small village with shop, cafes and two pubs both serving food. The village gives you a good base to see lots of Dorset's attractions. Our hosts were great, friendly and helpful and we didn't need to ask them for anything re the accommodation as they've thought of everthing!😁

  • Great weekend stay in Dorset. Quiet, clean, and just as described. Easy check in, and convenient location for exploring Dorset. Thank you Karen!

    Jing2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Karen's place is an oasis of calm, a self contained home with everything you could wish for in terms of facilities and comfort, all set in wonderful surroundings and your own veranda to sit on and enjoy the views. Karen was a lovely hostess and nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely be recommending and will be back next September if not before!

  • Fantastic space which is beautifully decorated and situated in the perfect spot to explore Dorset. We really enjoyed walking up Hambledon Hill which is very close and finishing with dinner at one of the local pubs. Karen and Carey were lovely hosts too, full of helpful recommendations (we wouldn't have known about the airfield cafe were it not for them- definitely worth a visit to see small planes up close and personal!) and we enjoyed meeting their very friendly dogs. Would absolutely love to return, it was a perfect bank holiday weekend!

The cottage is in the heart of the beautiful quaint village of Hinton St Mary in the Blackmore Vale. This is a cosy & surprisingly spacious home from home, comprising of 1 bathroom, a double room with a vanity unit & a twin room with a vanity unit. A short walking distance from the local pub & 1 mile from amenities of the historic town Sturminster Newton. Located in the South West, it is centrally located to explore; Monkey World, Jurassic Coast, Longleat & New Forest. All about an 1hrs drive.
Pets accepted on a case by case basis. Please contact me to discuss.
I love this area but especially Hinton St Mary. It is a serene village with beautiful houses in the middle of stunning countryside. We are lucky enough to be a 1 minute walk away from the Freehold pub The White Horse. Located centrally in the village, it is the hub of the village. It boasts a pretty garden but more importantly great food. I would advise to book on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sunday Lunch should you wish to eat as it does get very busy. 1 mile away we have the historic Market town of Sturminster Newton. This has all the amenities you should need and some that you probably don't but are most welcome. It is home to Harts of Stur (a huge kitchen, hardware and garden store), Olives et Al (an international food producer) and Hanson's Haberdashery) Todber Manor, a fishing holiday destination, is just 3 miles away and boasts the biggest fishing shop and best specimen fishing lakes in the South.

Wheatsheaf Cottage Annex is located in rural North Dorset on a quiet no through road. Peace and tranquility await you in a cosy private living space with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Located seven miles from historic Sherborne and it's private schools & Abbey. Twelve miles from Shaftesbury, known for the famous Gold Hill. A mile away is a high end independent supermarket in Stalbridge. There are several places to eat in the area. Wendy looks forward to welcoming you to her home.
Wheatsheaf Cottage Annex is made of local stone and offers a large, clean living space with double bed, dining table and sofa. A private adjoining bathroom contains shower, WC and hand basin. The "Annex" is a conversion of one of a small group of stone barns that make up Willow Barn. It has the prime view of the manicured lawn, carefully tended flowerbeds and pool, with it's longest side and two upstairs dormers facing exactly south. Once partly an artist's studio, the open plan downstairs is wonderfully light and airy, and its peaceful location on a no through road make it ideal for a relaxing getaway or a place to come and be inspired by the local Dorset history and landscapes.
The Annex was intended and kitted-out to be entirely self-contained. The kitchen has a full compliment of crockery, cutlery, pots and utensils and also a dishwasher and washing machine. Although the annex shares the property with the main house, you get the prime view of the garden, and with only a few small windows (with blinds of course) facing back towards the main property you can enjoy a great deal of privacy during your stay. The downstairs is large and open and a great place to relax. It is worth noting that the two bedrooms are in the dormer roof of the property and do have some limited headroom when you are climbing into bed. There is a dryer in the main property garage which guests may use during their stay though you will need to let us know so we can open the doors. There is also a sheila's maid in the pool room which is always warm. We try to be as plastic-free as possible in the consumables we offer for your stay. For instance, there will be a lovely natural soap bar in the bathroom and a bottle of milk in glass (handily available in the local independent supermarket) in the fridge awaiting you on your arrival to get you started. Please note that the pool is open May through to September only.
Willow Barn is firmly placed in rural Dorset. We are about a 15 minute drive from historic Sherbourne, with its 8th Century Abbey, new and ruined castles, gardens, museum and ancient town centre. Both Cerne Abbas with its horny giant and the magnificent Stourhead House National Trust property are within a half-hour drive. Willow Barn is surrounded by rolling fields and quaint villages with typically West Country meandering names; think "Mintern Magna" and "Bishop's Caundle". The Jurassic Coast, with the legendary 29-mile-long Chesil Beach is on the South Coast of Dorset, and is one of our favourite destinations, with its beach-side eateries and wonderful Sub-tropical Gardens.
  • A great property for those wishing to visit this area, as there are few properties near Stalbridge. A perfect base for the local area, with everything you need in the property.

  • Amazing place to stay clean comfortable and quiet. Beautiful view.

    Suharupy2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • We needed somewhere to stay in the area at short notice and this one jumped out at us from our very first look. After eliminating several others in the area we chose Willow Barn and I'm pleased to say we were not disappointed. Natasha responded quickly and was very accommodating. We arrived quite late but the place was clean warm and very welcoming, just what we needed after 3 hours on the road. In the morning we were able to appreciate just how peaceful and beautiful the gardens and the surrounding area is and I'm sure the pool would get lots of use in the summer. All in all Willow Barn was a lucky find for us, and we spent 3 very comfortable nights there. If I had to be really picky my only criticisms would be why no DVD player? We bought a couple of films to watch in the evenings but couldn't play them, and no-one uses VHS anymore do they?

    Neil2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place for relaxation. Fresh air and ample space for 3 of us.

Our place is close to Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Gillingham (mainline station). You’ll love our place because of the views. We are on edge of village overlooking farmland, in a very peaceful, rural setting in the heart of Thomas Hardy country. Plenty of scenic walks and Fishing Lakes are within 1 mile. Several pubs to wine, dine and relax in within 2 miles. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids). with ample parking. Travel cot available.
  • Great stay. Lovely thoughtful touches. Comfortable beds. Great for families with little ones. All on one level. Our daughter loved having bunk beds. We would definitely recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

    Lucy2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • An excellent place to stay for our pre-Christmas meet up and shopping trip. Easy to park car at Gillingham and take the train to Salisbury. Welcoming and friendly hosts who obviously care a lot about their property and their guests. The annexe was very private and quiet. It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed plus more. It was lovely to have supplies for our arrival and breakfast - tea, coffee milk, butter, eggs, cereal, bread and fruit..... and of course the delicious Dorset apple cake - very welcome after a long journey! Thank you for your hospitality - would love to return in the summer!

    Dawn2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • The acorns was lovely, cosy and very homey. I’ve never stayed at an air bnb that had such a well equipped kitchen! I really enjoyed my stay!

  • Peter and Ann are very nice couple. The place is at a peaceful village. Peter and Ann are very considerate, they provided homemade apple cake, fruits, milk, cereals, etc. It is just like your own home, there is everything you want to use for your own cooking, of course, you should buy your own food. I will come back again if we revisit that area around.

  • 2nd time at this lovely little annexe which is very comfortable, cosy and well equipped. Very quiet. Ann and Peter are very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast supplies very much appreciated. Nice country pubs nearby. Perfect for getting away from it all. We will return again. Rachel, Sam, Emily and Joe.

  • Ann and Peter were very friendly when they greeted us as we arrived. They showed us where everything was and had made some delicious Dorset apple cake as an extra special treat. It was very welcome after a 6 and a half hour journey! The accommodation was clean, warm, a lovely light space. We had everything you might need and some great provisions for breakfast the next morning. The area was very quiet and peaceful. The shower was good and the towels were big (always a plus plus point with my husband!) The main bedroom had plenty of space and the bunkbeds room was small but enough for somewhere to sleep. Beds were very comfy. The lounge and dining area was lovely and spacious, looking out onto decking and open fields. We really enjoyed our stay.

    Karen2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • I have stayed at a few places now and this is has got to be the best we have stayed at. The hospitality was brilliant- Ann and Peter welcomed us and we loved the fact that milk, bread, eggs, butter, orange juice was provided and bananas which I had ran out off and my kids have bananas every morning so that was perfect for us. The Dorset Apple cake was sooo delicious. The place it self was fantastic- and the garden was beautiful. We will happily return

Cosy, light, converted stone barn, within a private small-holding, with view over Blackmore Vale. Located between Sherborne and Shaftesbury, it is well situated for a variety of cultural & leisure activities in Sherborne and its historic Abbey, Bruton, Stourhead House & Gardens, Dorchester and Frome, as well as gorgeous walks along the Jurassic Coast. Breakfast stuff is waiting for you in the fridge and a marvellous family-owned grocery store, along with other amenities, is just 1 mile away.

  • A quiet and out of the way cottage in the grounds of a farmhouse – surrounded by open fields and greenery. Easy access by car to towns nearby. The cottage is just the right size for a couple. An upstairs bedroom with lovely views, with en suite shower room. A good-sized well-equipped kitchen with large table – great for home cooked dinners or a big Sunday brunch. Good working Wi-Fi, plenty of easy parking immediately adjacent to building, no silly rules or regs, spotlessly clean throughout, and a friendly welcome. Just what you need from a decent Air BnB, perfect for a quiet, rural break for a few days. Many thanks – especially for that home baked bread!

A very beautiful and peaceful location, you will be staying in a building that is part of a 19th century country brewery. The Barrel Store Cottage is tucked away behind the old brewery building. Situated in a "no through" road on the edge of Marnhull village, there are footpaths across the fields in all directions that lead to the surrounding villages and towns. The local pub in Marnhull is The Crown Inn (The Pure Drop Inn from Thomas Hardy's 'Tess of the D'urbervilles') and The White Horse at Hinton St Mary is also within 2 miles, both serve great food, best to travel there by car as there is no pavement.
  • Beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Fully recommend to all.

  • Lovely little cottage tucked away behind the owner's house, very quiet and peaceful. Extremely comfortable double bed and everything you might need. I imagine in good weather brilliant for walking dogs over the local fields (the usual route to either of the 2 recommended local pubs) but Storm Dennis had turned the fields into a muddy swamp so sadly that wasn't possible. Owners were very welcoming and helpful.

  • Just lovely - cosy and everything you could need . Highly recommend

  • Perfect little place for our small family to stay. Lovely and peaceful setting. The property is as described and sparklingly clean. Claire saved the day for us with milk for our one year old as we arrived later than expected. Plus the property was already filled with all the necessities that you'd need, very thoughtful and nice touch. Would highly recommend to others

  • This is a lovely little cottage tucked away behind an old brewery hence “the Barrelstore”. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend, comfy beds, good size shower, pretty garden in beautiful surroundings.

Ridge Farm Annexe is the perfect place for a peaceful, romantic holiday or short break in a 'home away from home'. We provide comfortable, beautifully furnished accommodation for two people (perhaps accompanied by a baby or small child) in an idyllic setting in North Dorset, UK, within easy reach of the Jurassic Coast and many other places of interest in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.
Ridge Farm Annexe is often described by our guests as being 'like a home'. And that's exactly what it was for 25 years when Madeline's mother lived here. The Annexe was completely refurbished during 2014, with brand new bathroom fittings, new carpets and a redesigned kitchen. The accommodation consists of a sitting room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and hall. The sitting room is equipped with a comfortable sofa and armchairs, and there is access to the patio outside through sliding French doors. A TV (with built-in DVD player) is provided, as is wireless high-speed fibre broadband (45-50 mbps), and there is also a selection of games and jigsaw puzzles -- and two bookcases full of books in the hall. The bedroom is furnished with two comfortable 3' divans with pocket-sprung mattresses and duvets, 2 chairs, 2 bedside cabinets, each with a bedside light, a small chest of drawers, and a built in wardrobe with shelving. A cot for a baby or a camp bed for a child can be added if required. The recently completely refurbished bathroom is equipped with a corner bath, walk-in shower, basin and toilet. There is a mirrored cabinet over the basin and a shaver point suitable for both 240v and 115v appliances. The kitchen is fully equipped with a ceramic-topped, two-oven electric cooker, a microwave cooker, a fridge with a small freezer compartment and a washing machine (3kg wash). In the winter there is also a condenser tumble drier in the porch. Crockery and cutlery are supplied, together with cooking utensils and all other normal kitchen equipment. For dining there is a table and chairs. Towels and linen are provided. Meals are not provided, but a supply of basic provisions, including bread, butter, milk, coffee, tea, sugar, flour, salt and pepper, will await you on your arrival. If you would like us to, we can also supply additional provisions at cost (payment on arrival). Please order these at least 48 hours beforehand.
We are well placed for exploring Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset. Nearby are the old market towns of Sturminster Newton and and Sherborne (formerly the capital of Wessex), with its abbey and two castles. Places well worth visiting include Athelhampton House near Dorchester, Stourhead Gardens, Longleat House and Safari Park, Montacute House, and the picturesque towns of Wells, Glastonbury and Bath, not forgetting, of course, West Bay near Bridport, home of the TV program Broadchurch. We are close to a number of SSSIs, and our garden is visited by a variety of wildlife. Alner's Gorse, a local butterfly sanctuary is a short walk down a green lane. We also maintain a small flock of sheep and in the spring there may be lambs in our paddocks.
  • Staying at Ridge Farm Annexe was a delightful - after staying in apartments or one-room accommodation it felt very luxurious to stretch out over multiple rooms! Wonderfully clean, a comfortable sitting room to relax in, charming and communicative hosts - would definitely recommend, and stay there again if we get the chance.

  • We loved staying at the Ridge Farm Annex. The place was spotlessly clean and very well equipped with everything we could possibly need. It is surrounded by beautiful farm land and greenery. We went on lovely country walks nearby. Madeline and Mark made us feel very welcome and offered lots of useful information. They were very patient with the additional noise that our 3 month old created and provided a cot, in which she slept very comfortably. We had a great stay and will be coming again when in the area.

  • The Garden House is a delight and the hostess is sweet and charming and very helpful and patient - we found it frustrating that the sat signal was unstable, but future customers with more sense of direction may find that not the case - lovely place for walking with family and doggies lots nice places to eat as well.

  • A lovely cottage which is a brilliant location and Sue was a perfect host. Quiet, beautifully set up and a really lovely warm homely feeling. One I would recommend x

  • A cosy retreat from whatever the weather throws at you. Ideally placed to explore North Dorset, which has some delightful towns and villages. Sue has thought of just about everything to start your holiday off on the right foot. Feels like home from the moment you step through the door.

  • Great cottage in wonderful village location

    Vicky2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • One of the nicest Airbnb's we've ever stayed in and we've been to a few! Sue was so welcoming on arrival she made us feel immediately comfortable. The cottage itself is gorgeous. Homely, warm and with almost every amenity you could possibly need. Despite the rain and cold outside we felt really warm and relaxed. The log burner and fully equipped kitchen meant we could have a cosy night in with a nice glass of wine from our generous welcome pack. The rooms are large whilst maintaining that cozy feel and the cot and high chair were perfect for our little 10month old. The village has a well stocked local shop a 2 min walk away, great for picking up essentials including local bacon and sausages for breakfast and a nice pub less than a minute away. All in all, highly recommended. Already looking forward to booking another trip.

  • Awesome cottage & very nicely furnished.

    Timothy2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing week staying in Sue’s place at Okeford Fitzpaine. Sue and Mike are the best hosts - their kindness, generosity of spirit, advice and helpfulness were most appreciated by us. If you ever want to enjoy the beauty and quiet simplicity of village life, you should look no further. The farmhouse kitchen is spacious with everything at your fingertips. Lots of extra thoughtful touches are testament to the quality of this experience! The entire cottage is very spacious, warm and so inviting. It was a home away from home for us during some rainy, inclement English weather. We didn’t mind as we never wanted to leave the cosy interior. The local pub is about 30 steps away from the front door and the local village shop is a gem. But it is the warmth and kindness of both Sue and Mike which makes the experience such a memorable one! Can not recommend it highly enough!

    Jan2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Garden Cottage was as cosy and comfortable as we could have asked for. It was spotlessly clean and well equipped with all that was necessary for a country break. Given the rainy weekend of our stay, we absolutely appreciated the pot belly stove and warm blankets in the lounge. Sue and Mike were the perfect hosts, genuinely warm and welcoming and quick to respond to any needs or assistance. We had some issues with the wi-fi connections but Sue and Mike did their level best to sort it out and given the cosiness of the cottage, we rather appreciated the break from connectivity. The cottage's location is conveniently central and ideal for exploring Dorset's villages, towns and the Jurassic coast. Highly recommended and we would happily return.

There was lots of room for us to spread out with our baby and dog and was located close to the walks and pubs we had planned for. Maryanne was welcoming and the cottage was really well set up for any type of traveller. We only wish we had a bit longer to stay.

    Louise2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Owl Cottage was, in my opinion, simply perfect for my recent trip to Dorset. It was a great base for touring Dorset and I even ventured as far as Devon. The place was as described and was just what I needed as a single traveller. Would also suit a couple. I would definitely recommend Owl Cottage. In addition I found Maryanne very warm when I met her on check-in. My one regret was not getting to say goodbye to her but I ended up leaving a day early due to a personal issue. I would love to come back here on another occasion.

    Michaela2019-09-21T00:00:00Z

  • Great communication, very welcoming especially to the four legged variety. Very large back garden with great views. Quiet, peaceful night's sleep. Lovely bedroom with views over the back garden and fields. Loved the clawed foot bath. Access to downstairs warm shower for the dogs, ideal for muddy walks.

  • This was a short noticed stay and I was happy to find Alison's home. This is a dogs' friendly little cottage with a welcoming pub next door. Difficult to judge the surroundings as I arrived late afternoon and left early morning, in the dark. The room was nice and cosy, with amenities (tea, local made biscuits...) and shared bathroom next door.

  • Our room was warm and cosy, just what we needed for two night stay. Nice touches like kettle, tea, coffee, biscuits and home made doggy treats. Very peaceful, rural location.
