Although rural, it is close to grocery shopping and restaurants offering take-out. Enjoy pure comfort in our solar and geothermal heated and cooled modern house.
We are 7 miles from Hawk Mountain, 3.5 miles from downtown Hamburg, PA, with its antique and art galleries, and 22 miles from Reading, West Reading and Wyomissing, PA. The view of Blue Mountain is beautiful from our home. Walking or biking along the Bartram Trail is excellent. Our property is quiet and rural.
  • Great host, comfortable space with everything you expect from a hotel with the added feeling of being home. Beautiful location and plenty of things to do in the area.

  • Sparkling clean, countless amenities, and very comfortable!

  • Lovely suite, beautiful bedroom, and tons of little touches like toiletries and snack foods, cereals, etc... Hosts are a very nice couple doing great work in their community. Solar panels on the roof and they're planting trees in the back. The backyard is a lovely hill to start the morning with. Great place to rest your head.

  • Martha's place was perfect for our needs. There was plenty of space. Having the bedroom separate from the living room space is great for us since my wife likes to go to bed earlier than me. Can't do that in a hotel. There were some nice touches like the Keurig coffee maker, the breakfast cereals and milk. The bed was comfortable. Great stay.

    Stephen2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and cozy place! Would definitely stay again if I’m in the area. They had some great amenities as well.

  • What an amazing place! Easy to get to from the highway and loved being surrounded by art decor.

    Kristen2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. The price is great and beats a hotel. It is convenient to shopping, eating, and the AT if you’re hiking.

  • This little cabin is the perfect getaway for a long weekend or anytime really. It's secluded enough that you have peace and quiet, but not too far away from everything. The view is amazing and this was our first time seeing the stars that bright. We enjoyed grilling and making s'mores on the campfire. Everything was amazing and we didn't want to leave!

    Adrian2020-03-08T00:00:00Z

  • Lots of room, very clean, brownies on arriving, great as base for visiting the area

    Tony2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first Airbnb stay and it was, by far, in excess of my expectations. The apartment was easy to find, there is plenty of parking and check in was a breeze. The space was sparkling clean, much larger than expected, very comfortable and cozy. Looking at the pics, I expected something like my Grandma's house but I found the pictures were a bit deceiving. The decor was super cute, beautiful paintings on the walls. We especially enjoyed the fresh brownies, frosted mugs and board games. Mary was very easy to communicate with and offered some great personalized suggestions based on our interests. We visited Grafitti Highway, Yuengling Brewery and Long Trout Winery/Disc Golf. There is so much more to do in the area and when we return, we will definitely stay here again!

    Jillian2019-04-21T00:00:00Z

  • Such a nice, quiet place. Not too much to do around the town, but if you have good company to hangout with, Cousin Dave’s place is the place to be! Also, check out the restaurant ‘Wheel’ SO good.

    Sean2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils you would need. The beds were very comfortable and were just the right firmness for all of us. It is an older row house, but looks like it has been remodeled and was very pleasant. There is a stairway to the bedrooms and bath, so like many two story buildings, it is not handicap accessible, but that wasn’t a factor with our group, we had no problem with the stairs. Dave was quick to answer any questions we had and was a great guy to work with. It is situated in a nice, quiet area. If you are looking for a nice, comfortable place, this is a place to consider. There were 4 in our group and we all agreed that if we are back in the area we would definitely rent this again. A big thumbs up to Dave.

  • This was a very clean household, amazing price as well!

  • David’s place was awesome! Very comfortable with sweet touches throughout. Great communication and local tips, excellent host!

    Natia2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • I absolutely loved David's house. It was roomy, comfortable, super clean, and my family loved it. I loved the idea that my dogs could be part of my trip and comfortable as well. I liked the fact after being on the road for a week, that there was a washer and dryer to use. By far the best host out there. David was very nice and kept in touch with me!!!!

    Jessica2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! Clean and felt at home. We were visiting our son who only live 4 minutes drive from the house so the location was awsome for us. Great touches and snacks for us and our pups waiting for us! There was plenty of things in the pantry and fridge. We could have cooked a entire meal if we wanted to! Thanks Dave!

Relax at the Log Cabin in the Woods. Fire place and fire pit are yours to sit and enjoy. Kitchen with gas stove and refrigerator accented by dimmable lighting to suit your taste.
Log Cabin in the Woods is a place to rest and view the mountainside and the valley. There is some traffic noise but you are secluded by the trees and the beautiful surroundings.
View of mountain Appalachian Trail and yet close to Sheetz store WiFi and coffee shop in town.
  • If you are looking for a relaxing weekend this is the perfect place for you! Christina was a lovely host who pointed out some great hiking spots. Thank you!

  • If your looking for a little getaway to explore a small town this is the place for you! Super clean and every towel and blanket were super soft. Had a great time roasting hotdogs and marshmallows outside by the fire pit at night. Real cozy place well worth it’s value!

    Joe2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely private home in a quiet area in rural Pennsylvania. Also, very easy access from I-78 with basic amenities just a few miles away. The home was clean and provided everything needed for a pleasant stay. There is Verizon phone service in the home. It was quite hard to see the driveway from the main road, especially in the dark, so use the GPS location provided and look carefully. Not far north are mountains with many hiking trails, including part of the Appalachian Trail. Do check as part of the area closes to hikers for hunting season.

    Tom2019-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was nice and clean we had an amazing weekend! Highly recommend this place!

    Aneta2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The log cabin is a wonderfully cozy, very clean place with all you would ever need and then some! I highly recommend this place!

    Lisa2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Christina’s place far exceeded our expectations! It was so cozy that we wound up canceling our plans and spent our day relaxing by the fire. The cabin has a relaxing, rustic feel but features modern, dimmable studio lighting and brand new appliances. It is beautifully designed and clearly a lot of thought went into the development of this place. Christina was an incredible host and even stocked the fridge with breakfast essentials for us. If you’re looking for a quiet winter getaway, don’t hesitate! We hope to return soon.

Soak up the modern and vintage charm of this cottage. amenities include a small kitchen, living room, and queen bed all in a single room. the studio lights and small fireplace add to the character of the space.
The setting is beautiful, and the private deck adds to the natural setting, with gorgeous views of sunsets! cottage sits close to the ponds, and mature trees add to the experience.

  • Neil and Sherry were great! The cabin was simply amazing. Very clean and welcoming. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience !

    Marcel2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was such a charming place for a getaway! It’s nestled away for a relaxing feel, but close enough to towns with options of restaurants & activities. We were welcomed with a note & some goodies, which was the cherry on top. The cottage was very clean and well put together. Overall, we had a lovely stay and would recommend checking it out if you’re ever in the mood for a quick trip out of the city!

    Marisa2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place to disconnect from electronics. I still had service but it was nice to wake up to nature sounds. The house was beautiful and cute. They left us a care package that topped off our stay. I live in MI but if I ever out this way again, I will be staying here. Even if it’s out of my way. My best Airbnb stay yet! 100% RECOMMEND STAYING HERE!

    Reggie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was the perfect place for a relaxing weekend getaway. It’s the perfect size for two people! While there isn’t a stove or WiFi, we didn’t find these to be a huge hinderance. A hot plate was provided and was definitely enough for a short weekend stay. The absence of WiFi meant our phones were down or off most of the time (something that can be hard to do nowadays)! We loved being surrounded by the mountains and farmland but easily got to the nearby small towns. Plus we were only 45 minutes from a bigger town/small city! There are some many cute little places to go explore.

    Emma2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Neil’s and Sherry place was great! Their home was so cute and clean. The location was so peaceful and gorgeous. When you walk in your welcome with some delicious goodies. My boyfriend and I will definitely be coming back.

  • A quaint little place in a beautiful setting! My daughter and i had a mother/daughter getaway there and it met our needs just perfect! They had a "treat tray" of homemade cinnamon rolls, homemade granola, and pretzels seasoned with a homemade seasoning!

    Nadine2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Mike and Betsy's place for 1 night on my way driving across country with my 3 dogs. The house was very cute with a lot of country charm. The property was beautiful, unfortunately I was only staying 1 night and it was cold, so I didn't get to enjoy it much. It is certainly a place I would come back to for a retreat in warmer weather. Mike and betsy were very good at communicating and helping me find the place and check in smoothly. My battery died on my car and I was in a rush to leave in the morning to be in NYC by noon. Betsy was nice enough to drive to the cottage and buy jumper cables on they way just to help me out! She certainly went above and beyond and I am so grateful for her kindness!

    Monica2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Mike & Betsy's place last minute for a trip to Harrisburg for a competition with my dog and am so glad I did. What a little gem of a place! Betsy was helpful and communicative when I was struggling with the key pad. It was a stormy night and I was completely comfortable and cozy for the night! Definitely will book again next time I am traveling through!!

    Sue2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a gem! It's only two hours from Philadelphia and we were able to bring our dog. We spent a quiet and relaxing weekend reading books, roasting marshmallows over a campfire, and taking our dog for walks through Sweet Arrow County Park. It was a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. Mike and Betsy are thoughtful and communicative hosts. We're already planning to book this place again.

    Morgan2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and affordable place.

    Mollie2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was simply the best cottage we have stayed at. The location was very central, but out of the way. It was quiet, we were serenaded by ducks on the lake and there was room for our dog to run around. Every little touch was perfect. The cottage was clean, the bed was restful (we slept great), the cottage had supplies for cooking and eating at "home". Highly recommend.

    Jodi2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Mike and Betsy were extremely quick and easy to communicate with! Their cabin is adorable, so clean, and full of thoughtful touches. We took advantage of the campfire out back. They provided firewood and the cutest s’mores kit! The lake view is very pretty, and besides some occasionally noisy geese ;) it was very quiet and relaxing! The interior is very homey and cute, and it is very well stocked with all the utensils and condiments you would need. I would definitely come back for a relaxing weekend!

  • My husband and I (and our dog Yuki) stayed with Lazer for a weekend while working a convention nearby. It was a last minute stay—and with a dog to boot but Lazer was very accommodating, fast with communication and so incredibly kind to us. He chatted with us on our first night and really made us feel at home. The house itself is a little small so it’s better if there aren’t too many people in the group for a single booking. Also the stairs to the rooms are a bit steep—so I not ideal for elders and kids but other than that it was a pleasant stay and definitely recommended. Also very awesome shower! You won’t regret it!

    Diandrea2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is our 2 nd stay.. we enjoy Lazers home and him.. very chill and relaxing..

    Alma2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lazer was awesome, made us feel very welcome! He took us to a local restaurant, and even gave us a tour of the town which was very nice. Very hospitalble, and very generous. Would totally stay again!! Loved it!!

    Sunserae2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • My friend told me I have a knack for finding Airbnbs that are a much better value than they should be. Lazer's place for instance has two comfortable private beds, a recently renovated kitchen and bathroom (done by Lazer himself), and a shower that I can only describe as a biblical experience. If you are ever in the area (Pottsville, Hamburg, Port Clinton, etc.) there's no better place to stay!

    Ted2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place to stay during a several day visit. Our host communicated with us throughout the entire process and was quick to respond to all of my questions. The shower is one of my favorite ones so far of all the stays used through the service. We would most definitely stay again when the chance comes back up.

    Nathan2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lazer is a great up-and-coming superhost. His home is cozy, off the beaten path just enough but very close to the interstate. There's lots to do and see in the area, so this is a great spot particularly for a hub to recharge and refuel before venturing out into the mountainous terrain. I plan on venturing that way again, and when I do, I'll try to look up Lazer.

    Nick2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Home was neat and host was eager to be of assistance even before we got there and during our stay host went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable. Quiet neighborhood also. I recommend this home to everyone, you would love it.

Soak up the peacefulness of this quiet setting located at the base of the blue mountain. Enjoy the view of the pond and the farm setting.
this house is designed for great views of the ponds and rolling meadows. Near Cabelas and just minutes off route 78.
its quiet and peaceful, and is a beautiful place to raise a family.
  • We wanted to stay in a quiet and peaceful place and that is exactly what we got. The house was very clean when we walked in and the kitchen and bathrooms were stocked with everything we needed. Neil was also responsive whenever we needed anything. The deck was a nice place to sit and read while taking in the view of the pond and a big open field. The night sky was full of stars that were much easier to see compared to the busy city we live in. I would highly recommend this house to anyone that wants to disconnect for a few days from the stresses of life.

  • Outstanding Airbnb. Our hosts made all the right thoughtful touches. The place and location are beautiful. Perfect place for a peaceful retreat.

  • Very nice home and well decorated. A little bigger than expected and pond is very nice.

    Nick2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Neil and Sherry are great hosts. The house was easy to find, was clean and had clean tap water too. Neil and Sherry left us some baked goods when we arrived. The place is 10 mins away from Gas stations / restaurants, very accessible.

    Prachi2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place. Before arrival we had all the instructions and arrived to a beautiful pond in a secluded area which made this feel like a peaceful getaway. There was fresh baked goods waiting for us with a personalized message which we are thankful for. There was no TV or WiFi which is up to you to decide if that’s okay but we found it fine as we spent a lot of time enjoying the outdoors. There was a winter storm but the heat and hot water were working perfectly. This couple is happy to have their home open to others and very friendly. With a few tweaks this place can truly be a perfect getaway and I would definitely rent again.

The Bismarck offers 3 guest rooms with private bathrooms, a sitting room with 2 additional twin beds and homemade breakfast in our large 1909 historic home. Great hiking and biking trails, are less than two blocks away. The area offers small town charm while being close to big town comforts and lots of wineries.
Wilson Schmick, owner of the Hamburg Broom Works, had the house built in 1909. The house is a large brick home, it has a pair of wide gables framed with layered diagonal brick peaks. The balustrade frames the wide full width porch. The long windows give the mansion the Italianate touch. Art glass windows are found in several place in the house. This mansion sits on a terrace above the street and has seen much happenings through most of the twentieth century.
  • The Bismarck Bed and Breakfast is a great place to get away for a weekend :)

  • Breakfast was amazing - we weren't hungry at all for several hours of hiking! We thoroughly enjoyed Charlotte's wonderful hospitality and appreciated the beautiful house. Charlotte gave us lots of tips on where to eat and what to do; she was very knowledgable about the area. She gave us a great historic overview of the house during breakfast and was just a lot of fun to talk to all around. We got exceptional value for what we paid! We'd definitely like to go back - lots of great hiking and skiing nearby.

  • Carolyn and Gene’s is a hidden gem in Pottsville! We stayed here for the weekend so we could visit Yuengling and it was within walking distance. The apartment was very clean and much cuter than I had expected. Carolyn and Gene were also very accommodating to specific dates we wanted to stay. I will definitely use this place again next time I’m in town!

    John2018-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is gorgeous. The photos don’t do it justice. I met Carolyn and Gene and they were extremely friendly and helpful. The apartment was above and beyond my expectations. I grew up in the Skook, so believe me when I say this apartment is honestly a hidden gem.

    Courtney2018-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb was available at the perfect price at the perfect time during a major personal and professional transition that involves an eventual family move between states. This was exactly what I needed, and I am grateful for the opportunity to stay here. Carolyn and Gene were extremely responsive to questions and comments. Definitely would recommend this property for an extended stay. Excellent value. The only downside was the on-street parking. This is not the fault of the hosts, although the lack of vacant spaces in front of the property posed challenges occasionally.

    Steven2018-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay regardless of whether you're staying for a short or long time. The apartment is very close to everything Pottsville has to offer and Carolyn and Gene are the best!

Our six-bedroom farmhouse and its outbuildings are situated on 250 acres on a rural road with rolling hills and thick woodlands. We are situated near the little Schuylkill River, Hawk Mountain and the Appalachian Trail. Stock up on groceries, adult beverages, pet food at Tilden Square, North on Route 61 ( 10 min. drive). Also look for Cabellas, Starbucks, TACO BELL and other fast food restaurants there. Hike. Grill. Picnic. Swim. Fish. Play. Read. Sleep. Stay at Mimms; see you there!
We are often asked by potential guests if our home is private. It is. I do not book Mimm's to different guests at the same time.
Our location is perfect for folks who are looking to get away from the rush and noise of city life. The landscape is mountainous with lots of tree farms including my husband's business called J.C Hill Tree Farms. We love the tranquility of this farm and we hope that you do, too. When you arrive look for the fire ring near the shed on the right side as you drive in (we provide the wood and marshmallows). Don't forget to picnic on good weather days. Grab a blanket and the basket we provide and fill it with your favorite foods and adult beverage and find a little private spot with a big view. If it rains you might want to explore by car the area or visit other nearby counties including Lancaster and Berks. Google these places before you arrive so that you have a game plan. Our outbuildings including the barn are private and used by our farmhands.
  • From the moment we made the turn on to the road leading to the house and seeing the rolling hills, farmland and open space we felt the aaah meant for a get away. The house is a farm house and decorated for that era, loved its simplicity. Felt so cozy and inviting. The kitchen had everything we needed, the rooms were clean. Could see multiple people/families fit comfortably. The view from the kitchen table was our favorite. Jeff and Marcia messaged us upon our arrival and a phone call helped us get the wood stove going which was perfect for a cold winter’s day. The area is so beautiful to drive, we visited Hawk Mountain ( there were snow flurries that day which made us happy but wasn’t a great hiking day). We had dinner in Pottsville and ventured to Lehigh Gorge and Jim Thorpe another day. So many more things to do! Would love to return.

    Deanne2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I had a fantastic visit to Mimm's. The sledding behind the barn was spectacular, and the living room with the wood stove was a perfectly cozy place to enjoy our post sledding hot chocolate. We hope to come back again soon!

The pool was crystal clear and clean. The charming fire pit was a wonderful way to end each evening. Marcia was an attentive host, responding immediately to any question we had. Perfect location, cant wait to come back!

"Truly magical" were the words of the first guest when she discovered this wondrous retreat, full of surprises for kids and grown-ups, just downhill from the Appalachian Trail. Go for a walk in the woods, go for a bike ride, splash in the creek, or just laze the day away in a fireside rocker with a good book. With two bedrooms, a clever sleeping alcove, and a futon in the Secret Playroom, the cabin sleeps six, seven if you banish snoring Uncle Arslan to the couch.
There's hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, bird-watching, sight-seeing and shopping nearby but maybe you just want to dissolve worries and refresh your spirit. You won't be able to resist the gentle burble of the Stone Creek. And although remote, it's outfitted with all the modern amenities. Your vacation is more than an investment of money; it's an investment of your times and hopes, and I take your investment very seriously, as the reviews show. With all it's wondrous touches, this place is guaranteed to delight you. You'll feel like you're at the home of an invisible friend who wants you to have the best possible time. The kids won't want to leave the Secret Playroom (more quiet time for you!). Washer, dryer, central air, instant hot-water heater. Wood stove, fire pit, fully equipped kitchen. Though you'll probably spend most of your meals watching the forest scenery from the window table, leaves of the oak dining room table pull out for a full formal meal. Beware that GPS will lead you astray. The cottage is ¾ of a mile down a winding single-lan dirt road, across a creek from Route 183. The cottage is 2½ miles north of the intersection of Route I-78 and 183, about a mile from the Berks/Schuylkill County border Cabela's is 12 miles away and Lancaster County 40 miles. The cottage is 163 miles from Washington, 130 from NYC, 92 from Philly. Gettysburg is 80 miles away, Knoebel's Amusement Resort is 30, and Hershey Park is 35. Both the Yeungling Brewery and Rausch Creek are 22 minutes away. Maps, guidebooks, and a custom notebook list the hundreds of other activities, adventures and amusements nearby. The house was built by local artisans from local stone and wood. The floors are reclaimed oak; the cabinets and mantel reclaimed Doug fir. A local Amishman hand-crafted the front door and window table, and the gorgeous beds were made from local wood by nearby craftsmen. The antique oak table desk and other furniture, no way to know their origins. What's provided? The cottage has a wood stove in the stone fireplace with firewood and kindling provided; a 43" flatscreen TV with basic cable, Dolby 5.1 sound, blu-ray DVD player, all connected on the local wifi. There are plenty of board games, the type you grew up with, and wondrous libraries for adults and kids. The fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need: induction stove, microwave, toaster, drip coffee maker, Bialetti moka pot, with hand-crank bean grinder, crockpot, fridge, dishwasher (hooray!), cooking utensils, pots and pans, flatware, dishes, and glasses. I provide basic staples like ketchup, mustard, mayo, butter, sugar, flours, teas, olive oil, vinegar and spices so you don’t need to worry about the little stuff. And of course I include the ingredients for the must-use spaghetti ice cream press. On the window table is a 3-ring binder of instructions on how to work basic home utilities (TV, cable, wifi, thermostat, trash), along with the 14-page list of local activities, and a map to the AT. There are 2 main bedrooms, each with a queen-sized bed; the sleeping alcove houses a twin, and the Secret Playroom has a full-sized futon that will sleep 2 kids. Big family? The companion "Cozy Appalachian Trail Cottage" is just across the creek. Book the two! When you come, bring a printed copy of the directions, a flashlight, and food; laptop and cellphone. I provide all the bed and bath linens, household papers, and soaps; firewood and kindling. Do not bring your own firewood as it may house infestations of dangerous insects the the spotted lantern fly and emerald ash borer. An early guest commented on the taste of the well water. I have since installed a stricter water softener system with carbon filters, so now there is no mineral scent or taste. No need to bring your own water.

  • Wonderful house in the woods for a weekend away! The kitchen was stocked with pots and pans, the wood pile was ample, and the welcome book provided a variety of excellent tips for enjoying the surrounding area (we particularly enjoyed the Appalachian Trail hike). Mike was a great host and was easy to communicate with. Would definitely return!

    Ahmed2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is the perfect getaway!! But it is still close to anything you need. There’s a creek that runs behind the property which makes it so picturesque. Our two kids (7 and 4) loved the little playroom off one of the bedroom. The beds are wonderful even the bed that is in the cove is very comfortable. The house is peacefully quiet. The kitchen comes with everything that you could need. All the appliances are brand new and there’s tons of silverware, plates and cups. This dining room area seats plenty of people between the table and the side boards. The bathroom has a standup shower with amazing water pressure. Everything was clean and we felt right at home from the moment we entered. We hope to stay here again and again!

  • What a beautiful place ! Hidden gem in a middle of the forest. Just you, your family and all the nature! Perfect place to relax and reconnect with each other. We really enjoyed the fireplace while playing games and just spending time together. This was the most amazing house we have ever stayed in. We are planning to come back! Thank you Mike !

    Iga2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time! The kids barely left the secret room. Hearing the creek for bedtime was magical. It was epic.

    Thelma2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! This is one of the best airbnbs I've stayed in. The property was super private with just a few neighbors on distant lots and dense forest in between. The space itself is filled with nice touches like board games, every kitchen appliance you'd need, tons of extra blankets, towels, and pillows, outdoorsy books and guides, art, and knick knacks. Narnia was of course a huge hit too! We loved having the wood stove going all day, cooking in the clean and updated kitchen, and spending time together in the spacious and cozy living room. We were a total of 6 adults and fit perfectly. We brought an air mattress that we used in the living room at night for a little extra space, but you'd be able to sleep 6 people without it too. The couch is actually really comfortable for sleeping as well! I'm so glad we got the chance to stay at this cabin and appreciate some of the natural beauty we have here in PA!

    Charlotte2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • The house was beautiful and very clean. We enjoyed being surrounded by nature and listening to the creek. Our children very much enjoyed the home as well- very kid friendly! Mike was an awesome host - very attentive to detail. We look forward to visiting again!

  • Mike's personal touches at this quaint cottage made our stay perfect. He provided a lot of extras that made our stay more relaxing and enjoyable: comfortable beds, plenty of towels, coffee, indoor and outdoor firewood, and charcoal to name a few. The washer and dryer were a lifesaver as we were there on a soggy weekend. I absolutely recommend future renters follow his driving directions!

  • Clean, comfortable

    Robert2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first Airbnb experience and it far exceeded our expectations! It was the perfect place to stay over the Christmas holiday. The carriage house was extremely clean, comfortable, and the setting was incredibly calming and peaceful... so much so, that we adjusted some of our plans so we could just spend time there relaxing. The location was perfect for us to easily get to family and friends we planned to visit over the holiday, as well as close to shopping, restaurants (Van Reed Inn wings were so AMAZING we ate there twice), and wineries (Clover Hill was a favorite). We’re so grateful to have stayed here and look forward to booking again on future trips back “home” to Pennsylvania.

    Charlene2019-12-28T00:00:00Z

We are located very close to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, way off Hawk Mt Rd in a quiet setting. Guests have access to a small private refrigerator, private bath with tub and shower. Although bed is a futon, I have a huge amount of padding and it is very comfy. Use of kitchen possible; just check with us. We have a cat and a pet parrot in case of allergy issues.
Although we live in the country, there are several good restaurants within a 20 minute drive, a great orchard in season, and a fabulous funky country store that sells great sandwiches and wraps 10 min away.
  • I can’t say how much I enjoyed staying in the beautiful home and how kind Howard was during our stay. If you’re looking to have a restful weekend or going away for the week, come here. It’s so close to great hiking trails on Hawk Mountain and there are a number of cool spots to eat nearby. I definitely recommend the general store about ten minutes away. They also have a cute cat named Midnight who sat in my lap during breakfast (if you have allergies, don’t worry—they don’t let Midnight in the guest room) and a beautiful parrot, Alex. It was a joy to stay here!

    Dawn2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lee’s room and accommodations were perfect, exactly what an Air BnB should be. I went for a weekend alone and check-in was a breeze. Greeted by Lee & Howie, I felt right at home. The room was private, clean, and the thoughtful accommodations were a nice touch. I was given plenty of space, but Lee & Howie were never too far for a local recommendation or chat about the area. Coffee and a lovely, healthy spread for breakfast in the mornings was really nice to wake up to. I will certainly be back.

    Nick2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lee is an excellent host, warm and very helpful. Knowledgeable of the area and made great suggestions for excursions. Would highly recommend to everyone! Animal lovers paradise, plenty of wildlife around the property as well as friendly and well-behaved pets.

Renovated Schoolhouse with lots of vintage charm! You'll be staying in a former large (24 x 30 ft, 720 sq feet total) classroom. Included: your own bathroom with laundry! A one of a kind local landmark. All are welcome! Great for anyone looking for a unique experience. Easily accessible from Interstate 81 off the Delano Exit 134 or Route 54. Very close to Jim Thorpe and many outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, swimming, and golfing.
COVID-19 update: the state of Pennsylvania has temporarily suspended all short-term rentals. We will still accept future bookings (Memorial Day and after most likely) but please know that your reservation may be cancelled if the state does not lift the suspension. We have removed the Instant Book option so please send a message to make a reservation. Also, Please Take Note: We have increased cleanings and disinfection routines before, during and after guests arrival for everyone’s safety. For this reason, the cleaning fee has increased from $30 to $40 per reservation. We are also asking that guests use the mini fridge in their room only and to bring paper plates /cups and disposable utensils if possible. We also can provide these with advance notice if guests forget or do not have access to these supplies. Guests may use the kitchen to cook but access to the large fridge is restricted to prevent cross-contamination. Please know that we are doing everything we can to keep everyone safe, thanks! Discover more on our website! Enter “Grier City Schoolhouse” in your search bar and the website will appear at the top of the results. The schoolhouse was built in the early 1900s. Grades 1 - 8 occupied the four classrooms, with two grades to each of the four classrooms. Many of the old architectural details remain, including the grand staircase, double door foyer entryway, original hardwood pine floors and original millwork. The windows are over 90 inches tall, providing light to all the rooms throughout the day. Guest comfort is of utmost importance. Unlike other properties, we have purchased linens specifically for guest use and do not use old hand-me-down towels and sheets. All items are selected for comfort and style--no clashing patterns or garish designs here. All beds include premium supportive down pillows (with pillow protectors!) and luxurious down comforters during the winter months. The mattresses are comfortable and not too firm for a great night's rest (they are also covered with protectors). Towels and washcloths are provided. All bedding (including duvet covers) and towels are washed after each guest. You can rest assured that your safety and hygiene are of the utmost importance. All decor has been hand selected and curated by the host. The Schoolhouse includes an array of unique antiques (hand painted signs, mod electric fireplace, typewriters, games) and features a curated selection of mid-century antique furniture. In addition, old photographs of the school during its operation are displayed around the room along with the owner's paintings and prints in the guest room, kitchen, foyer and bathroom. This is a unique space -- don't miss your chance to experience such a wonderful rural retreat!
The schoolhouse is located in a peaceful residential area surrounded by trees and grass. Very calm, quiet and tranquil! The road gets a light amount of traffic during the day and very little at night. As an important note, there are no amenities within walking distance of the property, a short five minute drive will take you to the closest grocery store. Local Attractions include: The town of Jim Thorpe featuring shopping, live music at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, restaurants, whitewater rafting, cycling and more! Only a 30 min drive. Tuscarora State Park is perfect for hiking, swimming, and fishing. They also offer rental boats during the summer season. Just a 5 minute drive. Locust Lake State Park features hiking, swimming and other outdoor activities. Just a 13 minute drive. Mountain Valley Golf Course is open to the public. They also have a nice brunch on Sundays. A 15 minute drive. Yeungling Brewery, America's oldest, is a 25 minute drive away in Pottsville. They offer tours open to the public. Great antique shopping is all over the area. I can give you a list of stores if you are interested. On Wednesdays from 8am -7pm (6 pm in the winter), the famous Hometown Farmer's Market is the place to be. Stop by for fresh produce, local wine and honey, Amish delicacies and many other inexpensive stores offering everything from antiques to electronics. There are also a number of stores serving a wide range of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Only a 5 minute drive.
  • Maria's little house in the quaint town of Barnesville, is an astounding getaway gem in what could be, on the surface, the very middle of nowhere. Highly recommend for simply the house alone, the remaining accents of the old schoolhouse it had once been, to the tidy environment lead to a beautifully pleasant arrangement. Personal touches from the mini fridge, the TV area with plenty of sitting space, our personal heater along with the private bathroom were musts for our weekend away. It was also excellent to have a seperate area from her, as a host, so as not to feel in her way, or getting in the way of the ultimate flow of this perfect hideaway.

    Josh2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • The schoolhouse was incredibly charming. Maria was very responsive and check-in was easy. The games and decorations were fun! The kitchen and shared dining space were large and well-stocked with utensils alongside delicious coffee! A treasure in the area!

This mansion sits on a terrace above the street and has seen much happenings through most of the twentieth century
  • Charlotte place is simply amazing, and she is the best airbnb host. Visit her, you will be surprised!

  • This place is absolutely amazing! Charlotte is an amazing host and the house is beautiful. Our room was magnificent and we were greeted with champagne and chocolate for New Years! The original details to the house and the amenities they offered were spectacular. She had good suggestions for things to do around Hamburg and our breakfast in the morning was delicious (French toast, eggs, sausage, fruit). Definitely recommend to anyone wanting a nice relaxing stay in a cute small town!

  • Charlotte provided incredible hospitality during our stay. The house is immaculate, and the architecture is beautiful. The town is quaint and the people are extremely friendly. We found some wonderful antiques and a great brewery just a short walk from the house. We are already planning our return trip!

  • The Bismarck is a special B&B with a wonderful history that Charlotte and George are preserving for all to enjoy. The home has stood still in time and invites you to enjoy life one hundred years ago. The bed is a dreamy fit for a queen with all the luxuries of a first class hotel. The original bathroom fixtures are a marvel and add to reliving the past. And the breakfast.. perfectly done Eggs Benedict with juice, fruit, and endless coffee served at your desired time. But in case you get itchy for a tea or something, the sitting room offers instant extras with ample reading material of local places to eat, see and do. Or sit quietly in the period-decorated grand parlor and feel the history of Hamburg come alive. The location is perfectly situated a couple of blocks from small town activity for an easy walk around. Hamburg is lucky to have such a gem and the care takers at the helm who care so much. A special thanks to Charlotte and George for such a wonderful stay.

  • My wife and I stayed at the Bismark for a night as part of a "get away for a day" excursion. Charlotte was an awesome host. She was very accommodating to our dietary restrictions, and served us a real tasty breakfast. The B&B is an historic building built in the early 1900's, and is kept in immaculate condition, preserving much of the original architecture. Our room, the Colmar Room, had a comfortable bed, and a full bath with an extra deep cast iron tub. Next time we're in the area, we will definitely stay again.

  • Charlotte is a wonderful host. We enjoyed our stay very much. Breakfast was very very good. The facility is absolutely charming. Convenient and clean as a whistle. Our first b&b experience. It won’t be our last.

  • The Bismarck is a delightful bed and breakfast located in historic Hamburg. Charlotte is a super hostess the cook salmon eggs benedict for your breakfast. More amenities than you could ask for combined with local hospitality at a great value makes this a winning combination. I would highly recommend to plan to be back.

  • This home was beautiful, very comfortable, and located in a great location. My husband and I went to a movie together, located up the block and had a nice beer tasting experience. Our room was cozy, inviting and just fabulous. Charlotte was a doll of a host and was warm and friendly. I later learned that I was actually staying at the Mayor of that towns home. I felt very special and was treated wonderful. I will definitely be returning to this quaint town and a beautiful home.

  • Our stay was absolutely wonderful! We were only there for a night as we were passing through but the location is right smack dab in the middle of Hamburg which made it super convenient to walk to dinner and the river trail (all thanks to Charlottes wonderful tips/suggestions!). Great value for the room. The house was gorgeous, so much of it was original... a must see for old house enthusiasts! Would definitely stay again!

  • Such a nice place. A classic B&B with elevated traditional style. Lovely furniture and decor, updated bathrooms. Very clean and orderly. There is a smaller parlor upstairs with coffee, snacks and a mini fridge. We enjoyed a welcome glass of wine and snacks in the larger first floor parlor. Games available and a shared puzzle to work on. Friendly host who took great care of us (and the lovely house). 2 blocks from a few restaurants. Wonderful breakfast. Super convenient to the highway.
