Places to stay in Old Alresford
Contemporary studio loft in beautiful, rural location but still in walking distance for a latte. Sundial Loft is a self-contained apartment that comfortably accommodates two people. The loft comprises a double bed, shower room and kitchen area. Parking is available right outside. New Alresford is a 15 min, beautiful walk away so the independent shopping and eateries can be accessed easily. Winchester is only 9 miles away.
The loft has a beautiful gable end window which has a privacy curtain. You can enjoy being awoken by sunrise and the dawn chorus. If that isn't your thing, we can provide sleep masks. The loft kitchenette has a fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, kettle and single induction hob. You will have all you need to make yourself a cuppa on arrival. Crockery and utensils are provided. There is a very comfortable double bed and a large sofa to relax and enjoy watching the connected smart tv. Fast wifi is turned on. We can put together a locally sourced breakfast basket for £15 which will include a home-baked, organic sourdough loaf. Let us know if you are vege or vegan.
Eating: We are very lucky to have some great options for eating out – even our kebab van has a great reputation. Here are some of our favourites that are within walking distance: •The Globe – traditional pub fayre and a fantastic beer garden. •Pizza Express – a UK favourite wher you can get carry out pizza too. •The Horse & Groom (Fullers) – informal, friendly atmosphere serving traditional British food •Pulpo Negro – probably the best tapas place in the area. One of our top recommendations. There is a bar downstairs for cocktails too. •The Bell – intimate, cosy restaurant and bar serving a French/British combo. •Mange2 Deli – friendly local deli with fresh bread and everything else you would expect from a deli. •Caracoli – local coffee and deli lunch place. Walking, Running & Cycling We are surrounded by the most beautiful countryside criss-crossed with bridal paths and public rights of way. We would be happy to recommend routes that we use regularly. If you have bikes you can unload and store them at the side of the house. We have cctv on the drive area but do lock them up. Attractions: •The Watercress Line •New Alresford Riverside walk •The Historical City of Winchester •Hinton Ampner •The Grange •Winchester Discovery Centre Local Events: •Watercress Festival, New Alresford MAY •The Hat Festival, Winchester JULY •Old Alresford Village Fete JUNE •Alresford Music Festival, New Alresford JUNE •The Grange Festival MAY - JULY Website for more information: http://www.alresford.org/events.php Facebook page: https://en-gb.facebook.com/Allthingsalresford/ Amenities: In New Alresford there is: •Pharmacy •Doctors surgery – Alresford Surgery, Station Road •Butchers – Evans with their award winning sausages •Tesco Metro •Co-oP Local •Library •Pretty Woman Beauty Salon •Two hairdressers •Bakers – Heidi’s •Taxi On top of these there are lovely independent shops and you should take a walk or drive to The Long Barn that is just outside New Alresford towards Alton.
  • The Loft is a very comfortable space and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable and we slept like logs. The kitchenette was all we needed to hear a frozen meal and make breakfast. The shower is superb. It is has a surprisingly light and spacious feel to it. We would definitely recommend it.

  • Thanks for a lovely stay, comfortable, clean and beautifully presented. The walk into New Alresford was easy and pleasant despite the rain, and The Globe (which is the nearest pub) was friendly, warm and served good food. There was the added bonus of a ukulele group playing in the back room on Monday.

  • What a delightful find. This little annexe was just perfect for our weekend away. On a cold blustery day of arrival, the pre lit log burner by Debbie was such a welcome sight. Some nice touches left for us in the fridge too. Very comfortable bed and living space for relaxing during our cosy evenings with a bottle of wine. Debbie is a wonderful friendly host with good communication. We’ll definitely be back.

    Barry2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie is a lovely host, very helpful with thoughtful touches. Our dog really enjoyed his visit with some nice walks nearby.

    Suzie2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie was a wonderful host ~ excellent communication and a really warm welcome for a perfect stay. Lovely location and the lit fire on arrival was greatly appreciated. Very comfortable bed, spotlessly clean and a tasty breakfast for the morning.

    Mandy2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie’s place is beautifully set out and warm and clean, with useful items such as a microwave and mini fridge, but it’s little touches like the lemon muffins and berry compôte, and the the relaxing, comfortable decor, that made this such a lovely place to be.

    Helen2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice cosy space, very welcoming. Comfortable, warm and lots of nice little touches - excellent tea/coffee facilities, nice range of breakfast cereals and fresh milk and fruit in fridge. Highly recommend!!

    Ellen2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely stay at Debbie’s place. Beautiful location, when we arrived we saw 2 deer running in the field opposite. Great little touches like the chocolate chip shortbread biscuits that Debbie had left on the side for us, tea and coffee supplies and cereals for breakfast. We ordered a takeaway from the local Indian restaurant which we really enjoyed 😊 the walk into Alresford took about 40 minutes and was lovely and the town itself is very cute with lovely little shops and places to eat and drink. We will definitely be back and will recommend to family and friends.

  • Really nice, cosy place to stay. Lovely decor and amenities.

    Ben2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is the perfect weekend getaway, beautifully laid out and as the other reviews say, the pics really don't do it justice. Great location, close to Alresford and Winchester. Bedroom - super comfy bed! Kitchen - everything you need to cook in. Bathroom - shower/bath and underfloor heating. Thank you so much for a great stay.

    Cath2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful amazing little place, away from all the hustle and bustle. Winchester a short 30 min drive away with easy access to the main roads. Would recommend.

    John2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • .... Warm, welcoming, clean, characterful and beautiful; deep white towels, starched bed linen, under heated oak and stone floors, heavy linen curtains, wall hangings, antiques, chocolate brownies and other thoughtful touches, what more do you need for a luxurious, rural retreat! We used the cottage as a base for events in London and Winchester, both destinations were so easy to get to from the property. The setting is stunning and we’d love to visit again .... when it eventually stops raining! Many thanks 😊

    Elizabeth2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay Garden Cottage. It's so cosy and beautifully decorated, the underfloor heating is such a treat and the bath is spot on. Perfect after a long day of cycling. Thanks so much for a lovely weekend :)

  • Everything you expect from the photos and more! Much bigger, much cleaner, much cosier, much more stylish! Just gorgeous. The stairs to the bedroom ARE steep but that's the only point we would make. So warm and pretty - a proper home from home. One of the nicest places we've stayed at.

Full of charm and Georgian architecture, Alresford was Selected as the No 1 Best Place to live in the Countryside by The Sunday Times and Voted Country Life's 'Favourite Market Town in the south-east. It's easy to see why. Alresford is a picture postcard, colour washed Georgian market Town situated in the countryside just 7 miles from Winchester. Its specialist shops sell a wonderful range of beautiful gifts, homeware, antiques, wonderful food, and on trend clothes for all ages. Now the home of the Watercress Line steam railway, so called because of its association with watercress farming, in what is now known as the UK's capital of watercress. The town hosts the annual Watercress Festival in May attracting thousands of visitors each year. Alresford is the perfect place for strolling and there is plenty to please the eye - The Fulling Mill and Eel House along the riverside walk, St. John's Parish Church, the Millennium Trail and Old Alresford Pond, created by Bishop de Lucy, Bishop of Winchester, in the 12th century. Close by is Hinton Ampner House & Garden. For foodies there is a great choice of cafes, takeaways, pubs and restaurants including our favourite, the uber cool tapas bar, Pulpo Negro, recently awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand. And don't forget to visit the Watercress Line steam railway that runs from Alresford to Alton through 10 miles of beautiful Hampshire countryside There are plenty of walks, too, the best of which follows the ridiculously gorgeous River Arle located at the bottom of our garden.

One of the best beds EVER, a charming bedroom, wonderful full English breakfast with bacon and eggs, French touch with croissants and jam (& cereals for those who prefer that), in a wonderful big kitchen which is a recent extension to the old house.

This pretty king sized bedroom is on the first floor of our family home with en-suite shower, toilet and sink. The bed can be split into a twin if this is preferable. There is plenty of space to hang your clothes, a TV and provision to make tea and coffee.  We also have a king and a double sized bedroom listed as 'Great king/ensuite in Four Marks' and 'Kingsized room in Four Marks' if you require any additional rooms for your booking.
Now the last of the children have left our family home, my husband Roland & I thought it would be fun to try Airbnb. Having experienced some great hosts ourselves we will endeavour to ensure we give the same experience to our guests.
Four Marks has a few shops including a Tesco's Express, Co-Op, BP garage/M&S and a few independent shops which include a pharmacy, bakery, butchers and local park. We also have two Indian restaurants’, a fish and chip shop and a Chinese takeaway. Alton is a market town 4 miles away that has shops, banks and rail line direct to London (Waterloo) which is just over a 1 hour away and has links to all other destinations. Petersfield, Basingstoke and Alresford are approx. 15 - 20 mins drive away and both old market towns and they have a lovely selection of restaurants, independent shops and a few chain stores. Petersfield has a direct train line to Portsmouth giving easy access to the Historic Naval Dockyard (this is about 40mins drive from us). We are in beautiful the South Downs National Park, and in easy access of some historic villages such as Chawton, which is a delightful English village with many period houses including Jane Austen's House and the Chawton House Library - which is open to the public. Selbourne also has Gilbert White's museum. If you can jump in the car there many pubs and restaurants in the surrounding towns and villages and we are happy to recommend a few places if required.  The Grange opera is 10 miles away and Hinton Ampner – National Trust house and gardens is only 7 miles away. If you like walking, road biking or mountain biking we have some lovely walks and trails, country lanes etc.
  • Really lovely place and well looked after, thank you!

    Hannah2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent choice for anyone looking for excellent service and amazing hospitality. Fiona and Roland were very accommodating, especially when we checked in late. The room was very clean and well designed, with a view of a beautiful garden! 10/10 would stay again!

    Connor2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • I was travelling for work and requested an early check in/late check out, Fiona accommodated this no problem. Fiona and her husband were so welcoming and their house is beautiful. Great location and easy to find, plenty of parking. Room was really spacious and lovely ensuite. I would definitely recommend and stay again, thank you

    Nick2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Roland accommodated us very last minute again. They are both exceptional hosts, very warm and welcoming. The room was clean, tidy and ready for us. My partner didn't even make it through one of her favourite programmes - she was sound asleep and didn't stir through the night. A very good sign to show how relaxed we felt. Once again, thank you Fiona and Roland for looking after us. We really enjoyed your company. Xx

    John2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona, Roland and Sigournay - you are absolute legends! Once again our hosts accommodated us at really late notice. Roland and Fiona were on a date night and made arrangments through their daughter Sigournay. A very smooth operation indeed! Communication was prompt. Our hosts are approachable and couldn't do enough to ensure our stay was comfortable. We had a warm welcome from Sigournay who made sure we had everything that we needed for our stay. Parking is on the driveway, plenty of space for our big car and within seconds of the front door. We stayed in a different room to our first stay. Again it was clean. Plentiful items for hot drinks were available (with mugs and teaspoon) as well as glasses and bottled water. The sweet treats were very welcome too. The bedroom looks large in the photos - it is even larger in reality. Plenty of storage for all our suitcases and rucksacks. Lots of surface space at a good height for putting our gadgets on. Great TV reception which was a good distraction for my partner who was able to relax to her favourite programmes after a long day at work. Plenty of sockets, conveniently located to charge up our mobiles. Broadband is excellent and consistent. All the required information for connectivity is at hand and clearly stated in the listing too when one has booked. Local tips and taxi firms are also provided. The bedroom faces the beautiful garden - very quiet and calm. The bed is very comfortable with a medium firmness to the mattress. Another good night's sleep was had by both of us. We couldn't get up for work - or in my case - I didn't want to get up for work. The ensuite shower room with WC is very clean. The Mira electric shower is powerful. Shampoos, body washes, ear buds, 'lady items' etc were also provided - everything and more for those little emergencies! We met the other guest but didn't hear him or when Roland and Fiona returned - no disturbances during the night. Another relaxing stay! Thank you Fiona, Roland and Sigournay for making our stay comfortable again. You are fab hosts. Extra tip for other guests: we had an enjoyable and hearty meal at the Saffron Indian restaurant which is minutes away by car - reasonably priced and excellent service.

Breakfast items such as fruit, yoghurt, bread for toast, jams, honey, marmite are provided along with tea and 'real' coffee. ** Although there is a small kitchenette, there are no cooking facilities for hot food preparation **
The barn at Lyfield house sits in its own space in the driveway of the main house and boasts the best views of the whole property. There is a king size double bed made with crisp white cotton sheets and an en suite shower room with fluffy bath towels. Being completely separate from the main house means you can relax in total privacy. There is a tiny kitchen where you will also find breakfast staples such as tea, coffee, sugar, honey, marmite, and cereal and on your arrival the fridge will be stocked with butter, milk, jam, juice and pastries so you can enjoy your breakfast in your own time and at your own pace. The kitchen is equipped a small fridge, a kettle and a toaster. The hob is not for use by guests so hot food cannot be prepared. There is a hair dryer, unlimited wifi and a television, a washer/dryer, iron and ironing board are available on request. There is a gym downstairs which can be used by arrangement and at your own risk - I'd always go through machine instructions before use. The tennis court outside can also be used by arrangement.
Medstead is a thriving and large village with a pub and a village shop hosting a post office. Nearby are the larger towns of Alton and Alresford which boast a beautiful Georgian high street and niche shops. We are close to Lasham Gliding and the Jane Austin sites and are only 25 minutes from Winchester.
  • This is a lovely place to stay: clean, new and fresh. Juliet left us breakfast things which was very thoughtful and much appreciated. There are no cooking facilities, but there is a kettle and there are lovely places to eat nearby. The Globe in Alresford had great food.

  • The barn is stunning, situated in beautiful countryside surroundings. The bed was one of the comfiest I’ve ever stayed in! It was easy to get to and Juliet was very informative and helpful. I only went for one night but in future I will stay longer!

  • My Husband and I had a super mini break in this wonderful barn. A compact but beautiful place to stay. Immaculately clean throughout. Bed was very comfy. We had everything we needed. Breakfast supplies were plentiful muesli, cereal, bread, fruit, yogurts, fruit juice etc. Shower was wonderful with two different size shower heads. Radiator/heaters were very effective on a cold winters night. Views from the barn were amazing looking over the countryside. Juliet was extremely helpful and prompt with her replies before our stay. We cannot recommend this place highly enough if you are looking for a mini break and some piece and quiet away from it all. Thank you Juliet it was absolutely perfect in every way.

    Amanda2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is cozy with beautiful touches throughout, with a really comfy bed. Juliet was really helpful with local tips and places to dine, would definitely array stay again.

  • Great place and even better hospitality!

  • Juliet's place is outstanding. So stylishly decorated, comfortable and spacious. The barn is within a beautiful estate and the views are really special. We stayed for a wedding in the local area so really just needed a bed for the night but we wished we'd stayed another night! Everything was thought of and nothing too much for Juliet. A home away from home. We hope to return very soon. It was also very good value too. Thank you!

    Charlotte2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Juliet met us on arrival and was very friendly. There is plenty of parking space and it is a beautiful rural location. Juliet gave us with tips for some great local pubs and provided us with bread, milk yogurt and fruit for breakfast. The barn itself was immaculate and very stylish. Very good value for money and lovely stay. Thank you.

Perfectly situated in the Itchen Valley between the Georgian market town of Alresford and the Cathedral City of Winchester providing easy access to great shopping and historic venues with the benefit of being in a picturesque village. This lovely eighteenth century cottage has stunning walks right from the front door and a local riverside pub, the Bush Inn just a stone's throw away. We hope you will love our cottage which is an ideal base for families and anyone else keen to explore Hampshire.
You have a parking space and your own door into where you stay what is self contained attached to the main house what I share with my husband Kevin, two children and two friendly black Labrador dogs. There is a sitting room your own double bedroom and a single bedroom. Tea, coffee and a packet of biscuits in the main bedroom.
We live in a very nice place with in the South Down Natural Park. Less than a 5 minute drive away (or a short cycle ride) you will find the beautiful small town of Alresford with its array of pubs, independent shops, coffee shops, small supermarkets and more. Alresford was selected as the No 1 best place to live in the countryside by the Sunday Times and voted Country Life's 'favourite market town in the south-east. Alternatively the historic city of Winchester is a 10-15 minute drive away. Please ask if you would like any recommendations - local area info is provided in your room.
  • This place is perfect for those wanting a quiet, rural space but with the bonus of a thriving little town, only a couple of miles away. It was comfy, warm and well-appointed, perfect as a walking or cycling base too. The hosts are really friendly, as are the staff in the pub just down the road which has a fab menu. Don't forget your torch if you're walking back in the dark though!

  • Lovely country retreat, with warm and welcoming hosts. Particularly enjoyed the wood burning stove that I don’t think was mentioned in the listing.

    Tracy2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, tidy, lots of character for surrounding area. Bush Inn is brilliant pub, great food and just 1 min down from the house. Overall great location, great host - would highly recommend!

    Edin2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place was clean and very quiet, a cottage from the 19th century. I was lucky to spend the night in such an amazing village. The host was extremely nice and thoughtful! Thank you!

    Alina2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place with an enormous relaxing bathtub in a gorgeous quiet spot, a short taxi from Winchester and with a lovely idyllic pub just round the corner! Wonderful, friendly hosts! A perfect weekend getaway.

    Elle2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our one-night stay... our hosts did everything possible to ensure we were happy and comfortable, and the place itself was perfect for our needs. They even toddler-proofed the whole house after I told them we were coming with our son! And they left loads of toys for him to play with. They really went the extra mile and we are so grateful for everything. All this, plus the village and surrounding area is so beautiful... we will definitely be back!

    Julian2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We felt very welcome, and was kindly baked a cake to enjoy on our arrival. The space was very homely, with cute vintage decor. The bath was huge and amazing, and the bed was extremely comfortable. Thank you for the stay, we would recommend this for people looking to get away.

    Zoe2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jo’s place was perfect- quaint, clean, and in an excellent central location to so much! They greeted us with tasty treats and made us feel welcome right from the start. The space was perfect for our quick stay!

New for 2020. The Horse Hut is nestled in the corner of ‘horse feild’ where the farms shire horses once roamed. Look out over Hattingley valley across to the vineyards and enjoy the beautiful countryside. Take a bath on the veranda or watch the sun set from inside next to the log burner. The horse hut was originally on a lorry and was used at polo and shire horse shows now converted to luxury accommodation maintaining its horsey heritage.

A fabulous space in an oak-framed garden studio independent to our home with double sofa bed, large shower room and tea and coffee making facilities, microwave and mini fridge. Within walking distance of the Watercress Line and less than 10 minutes drive to Jane Austen's House. We are also well placed for The Grange Opera, which is about a 15 minute drive away.
A lovely, private, light filled, purpose-built oak framed studio adjacent to but not attached to the main house. The studio is spacious with a large en-suite shower room and essential kitchen items such as a toaster, microwave, mini fridge, kettle and filter coffee machine with fresh ground coffee provided. I provide breakfast items (cereals, bread, spreads etc) at no extra charge. The studio is fully insulated and heated with patio doors opening out onto the garden. It's a welcoming place to be whatever the season - cosy in the winter and flooded with light in the summer. Although the bed is a sofa bed, it's a good sized double with a hugely comfortable mattress, feather duvet and good quality bed linen. There is a large glass table overlooking the garden and private patio area - ideal for enjoying breakfast with beautiful rural views or for working at if need be.
The studio is situated under 10 minutes drive from Alton, which is a small market town. We are within walking distance of Medstead and Four Marks Station of the Watercress Line (steam train line -not mainline!) which has many events throughout the year (eg War on the Line, Thomas and Friends, Santa Express etc) and the shops of Four Marks Village. There is a good traditional, village pub approximately a mile away and many others that serve fantastic food, local wines and ales all within a 10 minute drive. We are also less than 10 minutes drive to: Jane Austen's House in Chawton; The Gilbert White Museum in Selborne; Alresford which is a traditional and pretty town with great pubs and restaurants and fabulous walks along the River Arle. Historic Winchester with all of its attractions is 20 minutes away and Stonehenge and Salisbury around an hour's drive. We are a good stop-off point for those walking the St Swithun's Way, well-placed for the South Downs Way for walking and cycling and we are within a 15 minute drive of The Grange Opera and around 10 minutes drive from Froyle Park, a popular wedding venue. For those interested in the now booming English Wine Industry, there is a friendly, award winning winery and vineyard in Wield - Hattingley Valley - who will happily show you around with prior notice and there is Jenkyns Place Vineyard in Bentley too. We have some great cycling routes from the doorstep and Chawton Woods is just up the road which offers local walks - perfect both for a muddy winter's stroll or a pleasant summer's one! From a work point of view, we have had many guests who have had short to medium term contracts in Basingstoke, which is between a 20 and 40 minute pleasant drive, depending on the time of day and where exactly in Basingstoke. We have also accommodated contractors from Lasham Airfield and the film site there. Lasham is around a 15 minute rural drive across country.
  • Outstanding value for money: your own peaceful and spacious garden apartment. We were visiting the area for a family celebration, arriving late in the evening and leaving early the following morning. We didn't actually get to meet our host but all communication with Lisa was clear, prompt and friendly and we were able to be entirely independent.

    Rachel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely property in a nice quiet location. Lisa could not have been any more helpful.

    Debbie2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Lisa’s and can highly recommend it! Easy check in and such a cozy place with amazing breakfast - fresh bread, homemade jam etc. Warm shower, cozy bed (almost too cozy to get out in the morning) and a super quiet location, but still close enough to walk to the local pub!

    Jasmin2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is excellent value for money, clean & cosy.

    Elizabeth2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa's beautifully presented studio was a wonderful place to stay, so peaceful and relaxed. Our communication was friendly and instructions were clear to follow which was important as I arrived tired, in the dark, and checked myself in. Everything was provided to a very high standard and thoughtful little touches at every step made my stay easy, straight forward and so very cosy. I really appreciated being totally independent and couldn't recommend more highly that you book here if you're looking to stay in the area.

This Grade II listed cottage in the heart of Alresford is totally self-contained. There is a large sitting room and bedroom with twin beds, en-suite shower room and a kitchen/dining room. Quality pubs and boutique shops are minutes away.
16th century cottage. Sitting room with exposed timbers, inglenook fireplace and piano; bedroom with timbered vaulted ceiling. Comfortable for two people. Going up the stairs to the bedroom there is a low beam which you have to duck. This is not a problem for people under 5ft 3".
Easy access to Winchester, Salisbury, Guildford, Chichester (& their cathedrals). South Downs National Park, Southampton, Isle of Wight Ferry, Portsmouth (Victory & Mary Rose) , The New Forest and The Montagu Motor Museum, Romsey & its Abbey etc. Grange Park Opera.
  • A delight, to stay at Ann’s cottage. That is very clean, and neat, with so much character too. Ann’d generously left us groceries, for breakfast, also she’d showed us around, when we checked in. Alresford’s a quick drive, from Winchester, with pretty, pastel houses, two cosy pubs we’d loved eating at. Perfect getaway from London!

    TingXuan2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful ancient cottage complete with beams, an inglenook fireplace and immense character. Excellent quality bedding and towels, a generous breakfast provision and a warm and cosy environment, make this a very special place to stay. Ann and her daughter Frances are lovely and welcoming hosts.

    Pat2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The house was a real fairy tale. My boyfriend and I have celebrated New Years there, and it will be an unforgettable one - we had a great dinner at a restaurant recommended by Ann, had a rest by the fireplace a general quality cozy time. Ann was very nice to provide us the breakfast food and a bunch of local tips. Thank you Ann, and we hope to be back there some day!

    Yulia2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Another great stay at Ann's cottage. As always Ann was very welcoming and friendly. Nice touches like bread, eggs and breakfast cereal, and so on. Even though the weather was cold, the cottage was cosy warm.

    Philip2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Cottage was cosy and warm with an authentic cottage feel. Plenty to do nearby and the village has everything you need. Ann was a great host and parking right outside the cottage which was ideal.

    Suzanne2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful and very cosy house in a perfect location. Ann was lovely and we had the most wonderful time! There are some very pretty local walks and it was so nice to be able to come back and relax by the fire. We would love to return!

    Katherine2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Ann’s cottage was lovely, and a brilliant place to get some time out from the city. Everything was on the doorstep, including lots of walks and places to explore - but being inside was always the ideal end for a day outdoors. Really cosy space, log burner and great amenities for cooking and relaxing. Having some lovely pubs on the doorstep also helped. I met Ann a few times and she was lovely - really helpful and welcoming.

    Laura2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our second stay in Ann's lovely cottage...she is such a great host, very attentive without being overbearing. The breakfast items she provides are fab...really good quality and a great choice offered too. We love the quaintness of the cottage and it's location is perfect for accessing all the amenities in New Alresford. Beautiful river walk on the doorstep too. We will definitely return!

Wig wam with hot tub and a cosy wagon. lovingly crafted to create a truly unique and relaxing space. Beautiful views can be enjoyed from the Wagon with star lounge, from the hot tub or when relaxing next to the fire.
Some people paint, some sing but this is my creative canvas! With no time scale or budget the aim was to build something awesome! With an upstairs star lounge you can relax and watch the world go by whilst the vinyl spins. The sunken hot tub with jets and underwater lights is heated by a log burner, watch the flames flicker as you relax. Keep the TP closed up and cosy or throw the door wide to let the outside in. The TP toilet with wine corks on the walls (not all ours-Honest!) and saloon doors. Enjoy a camp fire and BBQ whilst soaking up the view over the fields. Dine at the table made out of a tree infront of the huge window. A double shower so you don't ever have to be apart!
  • A little slice of heaven in the idyllic English countryside - we stayed there a week and cannot wait to return! Unique, charming, a true one off find. Feel very lucky to have found this place :)

  • We had an amazing stay at Ralph’s place. The wagon and wigwam are incredible and perfect for the ultimate relaxing break! The wagon was lovely and cosy despite it blowing a gale outside & the small touches around the place including the wagon wheels and marshmallows made the stay even better. Thanks!

    Hannah2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • The place look incredible on the internet but it is sooo much better in real life, so secluded and divine.

    Lucy2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay! I took my hubby there for his birthday, we both enjoyed the experience! Peaceful, tranquil and just what we needed! Love all the little touches, and will diffidently be returning!

    Rachael2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the wagon and the wigwam was unforgettable. Even more impressive in real life, it was absolute bliss. Ralph and lucy have gone above and beyond to create a cosy and unique place with so much attention to detail, we enjoyed marshmallows on the fire, hot chocolate for breakfast and cooked pizzas in the oven. We spent the evening in the hot tub which had a beautiful log burner and felt more like a spa experience. Would definitely return and hopefully explore more of the properties ralph has to offer.

  • Beautifully appointed renovated Dairy set in a quiet location only a mile from the main Winchester to Petersfield Road. A wealth of features together with spacious open plan living, easy parking, pleasant courtyard garden complete with views and a bbq make for a wonderful stay here. Fluffy white bath towels, crisp bedding, extra touches included serviettes, candles, fragrant room fresheners. Hinton Arms just a Mile away offers a vast menu of excellent food and drink. Many places to see locally including Hinton Ampner House, The Watercress Line Steam Railway, pretty villages, the ancient capitol of England ‘Winchester’ where the magnificent Cathedral is a ‘must see’, the South Coast an easy and pleasant drive. A more perfect location would be hard to find. I hope to return again very soon.

  • This is a gem of a cottage in a lovely location, spotlessly clean with lots of little extra touches which were much appreciated. The welcome pack offered a good selection of locally sourced foods & the dogs enjoyed their welcome pack too! Great idea. Communication with the owner was good & we had prompt replies to any queries. We look forward to returning when the weather is warmer so we can enjoy the patio area The information brochure for the local area was very useful & we had some good walks & pub lunches. We would not hesitate in recommending the cottage

    Phil2019-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • The Dairy is a wonderfully equipped, contemporary and stylish holiday cottage. Quiet, rural, plenty of wonderful walks and the peace and quiet is something to dream of. It has the contemporary feeling mixed with a few more traditional touches too. More than adequate parking, a great view out of all the windows, the sounds of the countryside, in the day the birds singing, at night the sound of the owls, heavenly.

    Patricia2019-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Was absolutely lovely, the attention to detail was amazing, such thoughtful touches. Location was perfect, so quiet and peaceful. Very clean and everything you needed was there. Lovely walks from the door! Perfect thank you.

  • We stayed at the Diary and the Stables over Christmas. The Diary is perfect for a family of 4! Lovely master bedroom and bathroom and great room for kids with views over the fields next door. The kitchen was equipped with everything you would need for a family get away. The TV and couches were wonderful! The little back patio was perfect for sheep watching! A truly perfect place to enjoy the English country side. Highly recommend this for families traveling in this area of England! Lots of lovely walks!

  • This lovely little place feel like you’re totally secluded and you’ve got your own space, yet you’re only a stones throw from a lovely little high street with loads of great amenities, little coffee shops and nice local shops. The hosts were brilliant; great communication throughout and popped around to say hi without being at all imposing. Beautifully furnished without feeling overly fancy, comfy beds, lovely shower and plenty of parking. Little tricky to find despite the very detailed instructions but we did arrive very late and it was very dark! Would highly recommend, a lovely weekend away.

We were given all the details for the accommodation and car park so we could make ourselves at home easily without any problems. Very clean rooms, comfortable beds and lovely interieur (thank you for providing milk In the fridge - the first cup of tea when we arrived helped us through the day!). Carole left us lots of information about Alresford, Winchester and the local area. The supermarket is in walking distance and you will find nice shops in the main street round the corner. We would love to come back soon!!!

  • We can highly recommended this lovely property. The property was spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed. The beds are very comfortable. The location is close to the village centre but very quiet. The hosts are most welcoming.

** CONTACT US PRIOR TO BOOKING ** Part of a Grade II listed house with beautiful Arts & Crafts gardens in the South Downs National Park, The Game Larder is stylishly furnished and extremely comfortable: fully equipped kitchen (with washer/dryer); separate sitting room (Freeview and Netflix); double bedroom with king size bed; en-suite shower room with toilet; wi-fi. Explore the Itchen Valley. Close to excellent local pubs and historic Winchester. Easy access from M3, Heathrow and London.
Martyr Worthy Place is a Grade II listed country house which we have coaxed back to life from the unloved, derelict property we stumbled across nearly eight years ago. During that time we have largely completed the extensive renovations to the house and former service areas (the game larder, dairy and coal house): it is this area which forms The Game Larder accommodation where you will be staying.
The Game Larder is situated on the north-western edge of the South Downs National Park and in the heart of the Itchen Valley with its famous chalk streams teeming with brown trout. The route of the Pilgrim’s Way runs through the field directly in front of the house. This corner of the South Downs National Park has wonderful countryside waiting to be explored on foot or on bike and we are happy to provide guide books and OS maps if you are inspired to lace up those walking shoes... Several popular pubs are within easy walking distance (The Chestnut Horse and The Cricketers (Easton), The Plough (Itchen Abbas), The Bush (Ovington)) and we are always happy to help with reservations at any of the many delicious Winchester restaurants and pubs.
  • Beautiful annex with everything provided, a real home from home.

The bathroom has an excellent shower and is en suite. Such a lovely place to stay.

The wagon in the woods is cosy, bespoke and self-contained. Ideal for those who want an escape to the countryside. Features include a hot tub, double bed, settee, table, bath, toilet, basin, heating, cooker, fridge, beautiful views , covered outdoor seating area and camp fire with BBQ grill. Check in and out times are minimum if we can we will let you arrive earlier/ leave later.
The huge window floods the space with light. The bath is revealed by lifting a trap door in the floor at the base of the window, you can relax in a bath and watch the cows pass by. You have the seclusion of being in the woods but have an internal flushing toilet, hot water etc. The hot tub is situated next to the wagon fitted into a huge barrel. The hot tub heats up very quickly and runs all year. The main beam, and tables have been built from trees that came down in a storm a few years ago. We provide free bubblebath, wagon wheels, marshmallows and fire wood for a camp fire.
From the decking you can see the Hattingley Valley vineyard through the trees. The watercress train line runs along the valley.

Set in the South Downs National Park, in the idyllic Itchen valley, this two bedroom, newly renovated self contained cottage is a perfect rural retreat or an excellent base for exploring the south of England. Close to Winchester, one hour from London
This is a special place to stay with underfloor heating, gorgeous antiques and finest quality bedding. It is a newly converted cottage with a kitchen leading on to a terrace which overlooks the lawned courtyard and countryside beyond. Also downstairs there is a large sitting room with a wood burner and a bathroom which has a walk in shower. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one double and a single. In the winter months this is a cosy place to stay with the woodburner and underfloor heating. The cottage is in Hampshire countryside, 1/4 mile from some of the best fishing on the River Itchen and Avington golf course is also nearby. From the cottage you can walk to The Bush Inn which has a renowned restaurant. You can cook in the cottage, walk to the pub for an excellent meal, drive 3 miles to the busy market town Alresford with good restaurants, cafe's and pubs or 20 minutes to the cathedral city of Winchester with the Christmas market and a wide variety of restaurants from the Michelin starred Black Rat to Rick Steins and River Cottage. Breakfast is supplied in the cottage. The beauty of this location is that you can shut off for a few days and enjoy the peace of the South Downs National Park or you can use it as a base to explore the south of England. It takes 15 minutes to get to major roads or a main line station which can take you to London, Oxford and Bath as well as the coastline of southern England.
  • Jane’s cottage is just wonderful. We stayed with our dog and he just loved running around the garden and the local walks were gorgeous. There were some provisions left for us and information on the local area, even a hand drawn map! Lovely local pub-The Bush Inn-just down the road too! It was just perfect for us!

  • - “ best air Bnb I’ve have ever stayed in…... Beautiful countryside, great walk to the local pub, quiet, friendly host who went out of her way, lovely breakfast food in the cottage, cosy underfloor heating and a wood burner! Amazing bed,

  • My Mum, myself and our two dogs had a lovely stay at Jane’s beautiful rural retreat. The location is absolutely beautiful, with such nice walks right on the doorstep and a great pub down the road. I’d quite like to move in permanently! Jane and Max were great hosts, everything we could have wanted was at the accommodation including breakfast! The space was very stylish yet comfortable. We will be back!

    Rebecca2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stay and Jane was a great host and very helpful, gave us useful tips for our stay and was very accommodating. The local area offers some great walks straight from the cottage which was ideal, I would stay again.

    Ashley2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great location near the tiny village of Ovington. Close to Winchester and New Alresford. Located on a working farm, the house consists of a large kitchen and living area, large main bedroom and small single bedroom. Bathroom has a shower only but it is massive and makes up for the lack of a bath. The space was very clean, well appointed and as described. As noted, there is no TV but plenty of games and books to keep you entertained. Highly recommended...

    Susanne2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • We were fortunate to be able to stay with Hugh and Ghouls twice on this trip to the UK. We couldn’t have asked for a more comfortable room, a more delightful location in their little English village, or more gracious hosts. It was a perfect place to begin and end our trip!

    Edith2019-09-26T00:00:00Z

A self contained, detached flat with kitchen/diner at ground level and the bedroom/living 'studio' space upstairs. Upstairs ensuite shower room and a laundry cupboard with washing machine. Off road parking within gated grounds of main family house and next to the annex. It is easy driving (3 miles) from the charming town of Alresford and the cultural, historic city of Winchester (10 miles). There are plenty of lovely pubs for walks and lunches to keep you fed and watered for a fortnight!
It's a lovely, fully self contained, private flat/guest house, detached from the main house and with a space downstairs to cook and eat and then sleep and live upstairs. Sadly we couldn't squeeze a dishwasher into the kitchen, but there's a fridge, microwave, cooker, toaster, kettle and coffee machine that should cover most cooking needs for a short stay. Upstairs are new and super comfy bed and pillows, with the added blackout blinds you'll be sure to catch up on sleep. There's also a brand new sofa and a 32" smart TV connected to the super fast wifi. We also have excellent 4G in the area. There's a desk for working and drawers and cupboards for unpacking clothes. There’s also a washing machine, iron and ironing board. We happily welcome one dog, but they need to remain downstairs and in the kitchen and there is a child gate (shown in the photos) that will keep most small/well behaved dogs downstairs. Please check with us before booking if you plan to bring a pet or have questions. We have family and guests with allergies, so please respect our house rules about no pets upstairs or on the bed or sofa! The space is not suitable for cats, so I'm afraid they're not allowed, it is impossible to restrict them to the downstairs area.
A beautiful rural setting in the heart of the Candover Valley. Grange Park is on the door step and Alresford (3 miles) and Winchester (10 miles) both short distances away. Both are beautiful with plenty to see and do.

  • This is an idyllic country chill out place and great to escape the hustle and bustle of life. Despite giving the impression of being really “out in the sticks “ the communication from Katie was superb making it really easy to find and you are pretty close to some really good pubs and restaurants and only about 10 miles from Winchester The barn is well appointed, really tasty breakfast supplied and lots of personal touches makes it a pleasure to be here. Having access to a pool is also a superb bonus Katie is a great host and superb communicator. We fell in love with the party barn and highly recommend it

  • My family and I enjoyed our stay at the party barn. Accompanied by a toddler, 4 year old and 8 year old there was plenty of toys, books, scenery and pool to busy themselves with. The pool was lovely & warm and much bigger than expected. Views from the barn were beautiful. The bedrooms were spacious and beds comfortable. The kitchen was modern and easy to use during our stay. Overall we enjoyed our stay. Thank you having us.

    Ayan2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • We spent two nights at the Party Barn, and it was just what we needed with our three young boys. The accommodation had everything we needed, in 2 decent sized rooms. The exclusive use of the swimming pool really made this trip - I couldn’t drag my boys out the pool. Breakfast provisions were also a big bonus. We also discovered two great restaurants during our stay - Thai Lounge and Shapla. -both local to the property. We thank you Katie for being a great host.

  • A wonderful rural retreat in one of the best undiscovered hamlets in Hampshire. The church clock striking each hour was very gentle and relaxing. Complete with fledging owl and close to the iconic chalk streams of the itchen and The Bush pub, Pulpo Nero tapas, Long Barn - all great places to eat watercress and trout, the locally produced food and much more. A free choral concert of Evensong in Winchester cathedral every day- one of the best choirs in the world, the house of Jane Austen and a visit to the distillery where all of the Bombay Sapphire gin is brewed make this an interesting place to visit

    Gail2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely fantastic time here in the lead up to our wedding which was a bit stressful but the beautiful surroundings allowed us to relax and unwind in the evenings. The house was beautiful decorated, light, spacious and very homely. The living space was a lot bigger than expected and made for a very comfortable stay. Simon was quick to respond and check in was very easy, would highly recommend.

  • We were lucky enough to book both the Stables and the Diary for a family Christmas! The Stables were beyond perfect for our trip! We cooked Christmas dinner and celebrated with all 10 of us in the kitchen/living area. The Stables are beautifully decorated and appointed, it has every thing you need for a wonderfully relaxing stay. If Simon would let me, I would gladly come and stay forever. The beds are so comfortable, the couches welcoming and I LOVED LOVED seeing sheep each morning when I had my coffee. Truly first class experience, I cannot wait to come back!! The area surrounding Beauworth is fabulous beautiful walks, lovely pubs (Flower Pots, George and Falcon), and we managed a trip up to Laverstoke to visit the Bombay Distillery! You will most likely need a car. We rented one out of Southhampton. This is such a lovely part of England, and we are so lucky we got to enjoy it while staying at the Stables. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Truly magically visit! Thank you so much to Simon & Sean!

Dairy Cottage was a former milking parlour. We stopped milking cows in 1992 and converted the building into a self catering holiday cottage. The cottage is situated between the Cathedral City of Winchester and the market towns of Alton and Petersfield. Nearby is the pretty town of Alresford where the River Arle flows into a lake constructed to provide fishing as well as a reservoir for the River Itchen navigation. There is a lovely short river walk here which we're happy to tell you about.
Dairy Cottage is self catering and situated in a quiet farm yard. There is ample parking which is private and not visible from the road. We have a variety of hens which sometimes roam the premises but are always shut away in the evenings. We do sell free-range eggs so please don't hesitate to ask - £1.20 per half dozen. We have a friendly cat, Simba who loves to meet and greet guests but will keep his distance if dogs are present. Please refrain from feeding him but feel free to give him some attention, he loves people! Occasionally we have cows and calves staying in our fields. I'd be here all day if I mentioned the wild life that stops by.
There is a small community run village shop and post office within a 10 minute walk. We have a lovely Thai restaurant 1.3 miles from the cottage. Also in the village is a small playground, football and cricket pitch. Alresford (4 miles) has many lovely coffee shops, 5 pubs, take-away establishments and lots of small independent shops to browse and indulge in. Four Marks (4 miles) has 2 very small supermarkets, a fabulous bakers, chemist a couple of take-away establishments/eat in, amongst a few other shops. If you like to walk you might like to find the hidden church in the woods. It's about a 6 mile circular walk. Or for the more serious walker there's a 13 mile hike to Winchester on footpaths and only crossing two roads. Fabulous views along the way especially once at the Matterley Basin. I prefer to walk back from Winchester to home as less steep inclines.
  • Great cottage lovely hosts recommend to anyone

  • Dairy Cottage is a lovely little place for anyone to stay in. Its's cosy and warm in the winter and cool and sunny in the summer. Plenty of room for all. Great little cupboard with jigsaws and games, large tv with Netflix. A beautiful bunch of tulips sat on the table in the lounge and fresh eggs, milk and a crusty loaf in the kitchen. Tea and coffee ready to be made by yourselves on arrival after a long or short journey. What more can I say. The hosts Catriona and her husband Malcolm are around if you need them. If you want to go walking, or visit local attractions or towns nearby this is the place to be. The Watercress Railway Line is a very short drive away or a good walk, well worth a visit. the trains go to Alresford platform 2 or to Alton platform 1. A great day out. Go on try it for yourselves, the whole experience Dairy Cottage and the Railway.

  • We’ve just spent a lovely New Year break at Dairy Cottage, the space was perfect for meeting up with family-huge lounge & comfy beds. Even managed a woodland walk nearby with beautiful views across the countryside. Very thoughtful & friendly hosts and our kids loved talking to the hens!

  • Lovely cottage, very friendly and helpful host and a great location for dog walking. We had a great Christmas break there.

    Helen2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful few days stay with our dog who was made very welcome. The house is well equipped with all the essentials and the large living/dining room had plenty of space to host 6 of us for a family Christmas dinner.

Perfectly situated in the Itchen Valley between the Georgian market town of Alresford and the Cathedral City of Winchester, providing easy access to great shopping and historic venues, with the benefit of being in a picturesque village. This lovely annexe to a Manor house has stunning walks right from the front door, and a local riverside pub just a stone's throw away. We hope you will agree that our light, spacious annexe makes an ideal base for families and anyone keen to explore Hampshire.
The Annexe contains a living room, 2 separate bedrooms, both with en-suites, a kitchen and hallway. The kitchen is stocked with crockery and essential utensils to enable guests to self cater. There is a large living room with two sofas, a table football, a toy cupboard and a TV. There is also a log burning stove (logs will be provided). There is no fixed guard around the stove, however there is a small fire guard which can provide a visual barrier. Guests are responsible for their own safety in regard to the stove. The living room has two french windows leading to the private outdoor space. This space comprises of a small grassed area, gravel and two small patios. During the summer it catches the sun, making it ideal for outdoor eating and relaxing.
Alresford is a fantastic local town - great coffee shops, boutiques and a market on Thursdays. The Watercress Line draws steam train enthusiasts, and has special events including War on the Line, Peppa Pig, Harry Potter and, of course, Father Christmas. The Grange Opera runs through the summer months. The Watercress Festival, Alresford Music Festival and the Alresford Agricultural show are also well-attended annual events. Winchester is only 6 miles away - it demands a visit! DURING THE SUMMER there are lots of local village and school Fetes - please ask me if you would like to know if there are any on during your stay.
  • Great hosts, great accommodation and lovely location. Would highly recommend.

  • The accommodation was lovely-very stylish but also homely. The log burner was a great touch for a winter evening. The place was also immaculate and communication was also prompt and helpful. I’d definitely stay again if I was in the area.

  • The Annex lived up to expectation. It was clean, well equipped and in a great location, off the main road and very quiet. Rebecca was so quick to respond, giving lots of tips and advice. We were so lucky with the the weather and were able to take advantage of the pool after a long cycle ride, which was a great bonus. Rebecca left milk, bread, butter, tea and coffee for us and made us feel very welcome. We would highly recommend staying here.

This bedroom is on the first floor of our home with it's own private bathroom with bath/shower, toilet and sink across the landing. There is plenty of space to hang your clothes, a TV and provision to make tea and coffee.  We also have two king sized bedrooms listed as 'Pleasant king/ensuite in Four Marks' and 'Great king/ensuite in Four Marks' if you require any additional rooms for your booking.
Now the last of the children have left our family home, my husband Roland & I thought it would be fun to try Airbnb. Having experienced some great hosts ourselves we endeavour to ensure we give the same experience to our guests.
Petersfield and Alresford are approx.
  • Fiona's place was superb, very clean, comfortable, quiet, convenient and ample parking. Communication was spot on. Would definitely recommend.

  • You can expect a warm welcome in a most comfortable home in a delightful county of Southern England. The home, though located in a rural village, is within easy driving distance of historic Winchester, the beautiful South Downs and, if you feel so inclined, the South Coast. I doubt very much you will be disappointed in your choice.

    Gerry2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay here, very quiet at night for a good night's sleep and the kitchen and garden are beautiful to sit in - we brought our own breakfast instead of going out somewhere and I'm glad we did as it is a beautiful house. Fiona and Roland were very welcoming and helped us plan our day out in the area.

  • Fiona & Roland are excellent people, great hosts and very accommodating

    Deji2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Roland's place is in a quiet residential area. It is in close proximity of local amenities and is not too far from good road links. Our hosts provided accurate directions and communication was prompt. We parked our vehicle in the driveway within a few seconds walk from the house. We received a warm and hearty welcome from Roland. The house is beautiful, clean and even better than we expected. The bedroom is clean and tidy. The king bed is very comfortable. Bedding is of a good quality. The mattress is of a medium firmness. A very good night's sleep was had by both. There is plenty of space to store suitcases and hang clothing. Beverages are provided in the bedroom with some sweet treats. We had good TV and broadband coverage. The ensuite is spacious and spotless. We were provided with soft, fluffy towels. The shower is powerful. Guests can access the beautiful garden and there is a sense of calmness around the home. One can interact as little or as much with the hosts. Thank you Fiona and Roland for sharing your beautiful home with us at such short notice. You are superb and we enjoyed staying with you. We wish you all the best in all that you do. Thank you for looking after us.
