  • Can't reccomend this little gem enough. Gareth was very welcoming and helpful, even coming out to shine a torch down the drive upon our arrival after we got a bit lost. Thoughtful touches around the lodge, beautiful decor, lots of leaflets about the local area, well stocked with essentials including cooking oil, bread, basic herbs and jam... dvds, games and books for if the weather isn't as glorious as it was for our stay... We arrived with a plan for long walks and pub meals out, but loved the lodge so much that we ended up cooking all our meals here inbetween taking our dog Bob on adventures. (He is now very tired)

  • Lovely apartment in a great setting. Gareth was a fantastic host and we loved saying hello to the dogs every day!

  • The Beeches Lodge was a great location for a break for a young family who enjoy the outdoors. It was ideally located for walks in the countryside/hills. The accommodation itself was very clean and spacious and the host was available when needed.

The studio is part of the accommodation provided at Uvie Farm: you might see Highland Cattle outside your window and wild red deer across the river, and you can walk round the farm or find instant access to the hills. It's a really cosy self-contained little appartment with its own kitchen and showerroom. It's on a working farm breeding pedigree Highland Cattle in the stunning Spey Valley (part of Cairngorms National Park). Grid Reference NN 794909 Grid Reference (6 figure) NN670947
The studio is small and cosy (about 5m x 3m) and packs a big punch for a small space: hardwood furniture and worktops, induction hobs and microwave, showerroom, washing machine, exclusive wi-fi & home cinema. For anyone who enjoys a spot of nesting, away from the pressures of domestic life!
Newtonmore is only 4 miles away with an A road link to the farm but when you're (URL HIDDEN) feels like you are hidden away among mountain pasture and animals, and truth is ...a short walk and you can be !
  • Roy's farm is an amazing place to stay and a very unique experience that I can recommend to everyone! Roy went out of his way to help and accommodate us during our stay, including picking us up from the train station which we were very grateful for! We were able to join Roy and his volunteers in the morning as they do the cow round and it was such a great experience! The cows are beautiful and we were lucky to see two calves! The farm is set in such beautiful surroundings and the studio itself has everything you need! It's super warm and has great views! We loved the projector!! Thank you to Roy, Nicola and the other volunteers for making us feel so welcome!

  • A quirky and cosy studio in a beautiful setting. Thoughtful touches throughout the property and a very welcoming host who's rightly proud of a fantastic part of the world. Would strongly recommend.

  • Roy is an incredible host! The place is simply magical, the view of the mountains, the calm, the cows ... The hikes are really nearby. We had a great stay here! We recommend!

  • It was so wonderfull time at Roy's farm. The studio had everything what we need (mainly great kitchen equipment). Roy gave us very useful advices, lent us equipment for our trip to mountains and showed us the farm and cows. We are so glad for this Highlands experience. Roy and Nicola are very kind people and I recomend this place to everyone! Thank u so much, hope to be back soon.

    Jakub2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy little studio in beautiful countryside, and the cows were very sweet! Roy and Nicola were very helpful and quick to respond to questions. Recommended for a peaceful few days with stunning walks nearby

    Emily2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Had such a fun time visiting the farm and meeting the cows. we hired a car and drove up from Inverness airport which took about an hour. The farm is surrounded by beautiful scenery in every direction. We went for a hike just over the road whilst it was snowing which was loads of fun. Also drove to Loch Laggen (about 30 min drive) and Ben Nevis (50 min). The studio was simple, warm and had everything we needed, including bread, milk, oats and jam! If you need anything, there’s a co-op down the road (5-10mins). Each day we put on our wellies/boots and got out in fields. Spent a lot of time stroking/scratching the hairy cows! They are amazing creatures, and so well looked after by Roy and the work away team. They roam around freely all day and night as they please across huge land. We even got to see and stroke a week old baby. In summary, highly recommend. Hope to go back again! Cheers Roy!

The house is nestled at the end of a private track in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Set amid stunning natural beauty, the house enjoys spectacular views over the local hills and glens. During your visit, you are likely to encounter red squirrel and deer wandering the grounds, and you will see a variety of birds of prey, as well as the more numerous Pheasants and Grouse. If you are exceptionally lucky, you may even catch sight of the elusive and highly endangered Scottish Wildcat, which only lives in this area. Our home is comfortable and unpretentious. You can relax around the table in the large convivial kitchen, that is always kept warm by the AGA cooker, or in one of three large public rooms, including a cinema room with high-definition projector and access to over 1000 movies and TV box sets. • Great hosts, absolutely beautiful house and amazing location. Really relaxed atmosphere, Robert was very helpful. Would love to stay again and explore somewhere else in the area!

  • I can definitely recommend staying at Robert and Maria's house - the room was great, the breakfast was delicious, their family was very welcoming, their dog was the cutest and the area was beautiful, all in all 10/10. Would stay there again at any time.

  • Maria and Robert are very friendly hosts, attentive to the guests and their needs. Their house is all just great, at breakfast we saw 2 hinds, 2 squirrels and a multitude of birds by the window. The setting is idyllic if you want tranquility and nature. The room was very clean, as well as the bathroom, we really appreciated being able to use the kitchen as we wanted. In short, a great stay! Thanks again !

My shepherds hut and single room are situated on a working croft (small farm). The croft is a a 5 minute walk from the village, with the wildcat trail crossing the top of the croft. While staying on the the croft you will get the chance to meet most of my animals. ( cattle, sheep, chickens) If you are interested i can show you a bit about my way of life.
  • Great hospitality from Viv and her friendly dogs and cats. Close to village and trails. Really interesting to learn how crofters spend their days. Definitely recommend if you like walking and are interested in rural life.

    Ruth2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Vivian and the croft are both amazing. The warmest welcome in a not so warm part of the world. I was made to feel at home from the first second until the last. I will most definitely come back to this little paradise.

    Andreas2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • This really is an exceptional place to stay. Not only a comfortable home with a warm welcome, but also the opportunity to see a little of crofting life. I returned day after day from my wondeful winter walks in the area, it's great that wet, muddy gear is not a problem here at all. Highly recommended; I would return anytime.

    Sharon2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great month with Vivian. It was in the middle of winter and all weather types have passed. Storm, sun and beautiful snow days. Vivian has a real (small) working farm. With love and attention she wants to explain everything about her sheep, the cows, the chickens or about keeping and training sheep dogs. From her homestead you can go all over the Highland. Vivian is a very friendly landlord and is always ready for you. For me, Vivian was a real 9+

  • Good place to stay. Clean and comfortable home. Good communication with the host. Highly recommend this listing.

  • Viv made me feel really welcome, couldn't have done more to accommodate me. There are 3 very friendly and affectionate dogs and 1 cat. Surprisingly the room was exceptionally clean despite all the animals in the bungalow. The location is easy to find and a great spot to go hiking from. I'll be sure to stay again whenever I'm in the area.

    Matt2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Vivian's farm is a great and cosy place to stay after a day of hiking. She is a great host and the breakfast is absolutely delicious. I've really enjoyed the farm atmosphere and Vivian's hospitality. From her farm you can directly start walking the Wildcat track which I can definitely recommend. I'm already looking forward to my next stay at Vivian's croft farm!

    Lisa2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • If your Scottish plans were to hear Bagpipes, see Men in Kilts, sample fine Whisky, visit a ruined Castle and view fabulous scenery, then dont stay at "Of Clune", because, Viv does not play bagpipes, it is not a ruined castle, however she is a 5th generation "Crofter" and you will learn first hand how Crofting worked years ago, and still does now, with some newer touches. From the full croft breakfast that was to sustain you all day, to the many issues Crofters have today. I am from Australia, and our farmers had it tough, but Crofters in Scotland were doing it tough before Captain Cook found us. Thanks for your input and letting me experience another world.

  • Fantastic place if you really want to get out of the city 🥰 shame we only spent a night there but will be back soon. Great house, great view, fantastic and very kind hosts and Furgus 🐶🐶 oh my god! You’ll love him. Not easy to get there, but Robert was very kind to show us the way.

  • This incredible country home is quiet and peaceful off the beaten track, with the clearest, most impeccable directions. Once you get there you’re blown away immediately by the style of the immaculate house. A real country home. Welcomed by extremely kind, open, and laid back hosts, you immediately feel like you’re at home. What a warm welcome. Location is perfect for walks, and the nearby Aviemore. A real wee wonderland.

    Emily2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • The room is small but has everything you need. The bathroom was warm and clean. We only spent one night there since the house was on our way from Skye to the airport and met Robert and Maria briefly but they were all very welcoming. It's a big, warm, lovely family house, I suggest it!

    Silvia2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Maria and Robert are very nice hosts, the arrival instruction was perfect! Their home is a very peaceful place in a wonderfull nature (birds, squirels) and the dog of the house is a very nice playing dude! Very perfect stay, please meet them ! :)

  • The house and its environment are superb, and the welcome was perfect. Clearly a place where I would like to spend more time

    Julie2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • The house could not be more charming. The surroundings are amazing. The morning breakfast includes homemade bread in a fairly delitious AGA oven. The familiy were very nice, including Robert, Maria, their kids and the lovely puppy Fergus. I would only consider one hour and a half (at least) walking distance from the closest train station (Newtonmore) to the house. The road is fine, but beware of bad weather, which might make it a bit worse. If you are looking for a place to chill, to see beautful surroundings whilst being in a lovely home, this is the spot to go.

    Alejandro2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great two nights stay with Robert and Maria- they are very welcoming and easy going. Continental breakfast was lovely and the freshly baked bread was a great addition. We were also able to use the kitchen for our own cooking. We never had any crossover when sharing the bathroom and our room was cosy- we loved their puppy ‘furgus’ too!

Double bed and single sofa bed for flexible sleeping arrangements. max 2. The Bakehouse at Caman House dates from 1900 and is a beautiful old stone building. It was just a disused outbuilding, and once upon a time a bakers - we have lovingly restored this and created a cosy one bedroom home from home, respecting the story of the building, using local materials like timber and stone. Like our other Where Stags Roar properties, it has a wood burning stove, and high quality stylish furnishings.
The Bakehouse at Caman House (sleeps 2) dates from 1900 and is a beautiful old stone building. When we bought what is now Caman House this building was just a disused store, but once upon a time it was the village bakery. We have lovingly restored The Bakehouse and created a cosy one bedroom home from home. We’ve respected the story of the building, using local materials like wood and stone. Like our other WSR properties, it has a wood burning stove, and high quality furnishings. In the bedroom (16 sq m) there is a double bed and single sofa bed for flexible sleeping arrangements for a maximum of 2 guests. Upon entering The Bakehouse, the open plan living room/kitchen-diner is bright and airy. It has an inviting wood burner, feature stone hearth and high-standard fixtures and fittings. There's a large wall mounted TV with freesat, dvd player and wifi. The kitchen area has a dishwasher, washing machine, full oven, microwave, double hob, fridge-freezer, and sink with drainer. There is electric heating throughout (plus the woodburning stove). The large bathroom has a shower, wash hand basin and WC. Patio doors open onto a small decked area outside with gate (so its enclosed and dog friendly). 1 well behaved dog welcome and free - please let us know when you book. Small but perfectly formed The Bakehouse is beautifully intimate and carefully designed with all of the amenities of a larger dwelling. (Total space 42 sq m). • Charlotte’s place is extremely homely, but is also spacious and stylish. We had a wonderful stay as a young family, with plenty of room for our son and lots of adult space too. The thoughtful touches left for us were unexpected and delicious. Charlotte was communicative and accommodating, and we had a lovely time. Newtonmore has a lot to recommend it too, and we will definitely be back.

The studio accommodation is suitable for one or two persons only - located in wooded gardens, with allocated parking space, and adjacent to crofting land, it comprises an attractive pine clad conservatory sitting/dining area, a compact king double bedroom with en-suite bath, hand-held hair wash shower, & WC (towels provided), and a galley area with mini cooker, microwave, and fridge freezer - ideal for simple food preparation or ready meals but not equipped for intensive cooking or gourmet eating! We offer a complimentary self-serve breakfast on the first morning of every guest's stay with us.
The village of Newtonmore has a number of useful amenities including shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and hotels. We are ideally located in an all-year natural playground with wildlife watching, castles & museums to explore, distilleries to visit, hiking for all abilities, water sports, ski-ing and snowboarding - to mention just a few activities - see the following excerpt taken from the Visit Cairngorms website for more information - Climbing over the 1000m+ Cairngorm plateau, the highest and most extensive range of arctic mountain landscape anywhere in the British Isles, is an unforgettable experience. Glaciers have gouged deep, high altitude valleys and corries on the plateau; and the altitude and exposure, plus poor soils, produce their own rich eco-system of vegetation, insects and animals. At the foothills of the range is one of the UK's biggest tracts of natural and largely untouched woodland. They contain fragments of the ancient Caledonian pine forest which is home to a variety of animals, including the rare and protected capercaillie. Other rare animals include pine martens, wild cats, ospreys and ptarmigan. Also to be found is the world's smallest tree, the tiny least willow, and a variety of wild flowers including the delicate pink twinflower. Heather moorland covers over 40 per cent of the Cairngorms and is a product of a particular form of land use. It is largely derived from woodland and scrub, and is the result of grazing and burning practiced over a long period. This has produced a patchwork of heather of different ages to provide food and nesting cover for red grouse and other ground nesting birds, and grazing for livestock and deer. The straths and glens and other low ground provide the home and workplace for most people in the area. The water in the rivers Spey, Dee and Don is very pure and these rivers, together with freshwater lochs and marshes, are home to many forms of wildlife. Many of the most beautiful parts of the Park are Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs). These include the Northern Corries and parts of Rothiemurchus Estate on the west side of the Park; and in the east, places such as Craigendarroch. The Park's natural heritage is very special indeed but a unique and diverse cultural heritage also adds to the area's charm. The cultural heritage of the Cairngorms National Park – from castles and mountain bothies to cultural landscapes and the language and folklore – go back thousands of years. There are lots of amazing places in the UK which all have something special about them, but the Cairngorms, Britain's largest National Park has lots of them all in the one place! The mountains that have shaped the people, culture, natural heritage, scenery and character of the area dominate the National Park and give it its name, but they're just one of the many reasons to visit! There is something for everyone from castles, distilleries and gentle strolls to fun parks, quad bikes and extreme sports. The Cairngorms contain some of the best wildlife habitats in the UK (Simon King and the BBC Springwatch Team certainly think so!). Ancient pine forests, arctic mountain tops, lochs, rivers and moorland are home to a quarter of the UK's threatened species. If history's your bag, Highland traditions are still very much alive in amongst a rich cultural heritage. Nowhere else in the British Isles can visitors enjoy such a collection of outstanding environments in one place in such a variety of different ways.

  • What an amazing time we spent in Newtonmore with Katie. We couldn't hold Katie and her place in higher regard. Everything was absolutely perfect and Katie provided us with lots of local tips and key places to visit throughout our stay. Katie's place was very clean, comfortable and has everything you need, the ideal base for exploring the area! We loved it and will most definitely be back.

  • Katie is good advice for exploring the region, she fully respects the privacy of her guests despite the proximity of the main house. Be careful for French people, no French channels on the TV and remember to bring an adapter for sockets.

  • We loved our stay in Newtonmore. It’s such a great space with everything we needed - a proper home from home. Katie and David are absolutely lovely and it was a pleasure to meet them. There’s so much to explore in the area and it was a perfect base for days spent walking in the Cairngorms!

    Hannah2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • The setting is idyllic and ideal for visiting the beautiful Highland region. Katie is very attentive and available (she will advise you on your trip!). The apartment conforms to the photos with a large and very comfortable bed, and the functional bathroom (be careful however to the very powerful shower) A perfect stay at Katie!

    Hélène2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Only the front door is a shared space. You also have access to a kitchen with supplies. The living room as a conservatory with beautiful light. A wonderful box spring and a bathroom with toilet and sink. Taking a shower in the bath is just a matter of adjustment. You will not regret this AIRBNB address.

  • It was a great pleasure staying at Jo and Ian's place. They were amazing hosts, really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast time so much for the beautiful view of the garden and the wildlife around (red squirrels, birds etc). The food options were all delicious and healthy, as we would normally eat at home. Can not recommend more!

  • It’s so nice to have two days staying in the quiet place! Jo and Ian are very friendly and helpful!

  • We stayed for two nights in the winter and we had a wonderful time. Jo and Ian are amazing hosts and you can tell they have thought carefully about the little things that make a trip special. We throughly enjoyed the wonderful breakfast spread provided sitting in their kitchen watching birds and red squirrels doing the just the same thing. We also very much enjoyed chatting to Jo and Ian who are both very interesting and engaging. Highly highly recommended!

  • It has been a perfect hospitality experience unparalleled to any in UK. The living quarters are homely, practical, sparkling clean, well insulated and soundproof to allow a restful sleep. The amenities cover any needs including gym, washing facilities and parking. Wi-Fi really works and is fast enough to allow streaming. The heating is efficient and there is no draft from the windows. I can easily carry on detailing all the thoughtfulness Lily and Jon have included in the apartment facilities including local maps, trails, pubs, restaurants and food shops. I will complete my review saying that they trully deserve the 4 stars and any holiday in Highlands will be made perfect by staying at the Highland Holiday Cottages (we stayed in Larch Cottage, there are 6 more apartments in this residence). Thank you.

  • This was our second stay at the flat and probably won’t be our last. We love the location - it’s perfect for lots of hill walking and mountain biking. And all of the personal touches are lovely too - eggs, good coffee, fresh flowers and home made gooseberry jam!

  • Such a lovely flat! Nicely decorated, well equipped kitchen (with some pretty snazzy pans, utensils and percolator) and a comfy bed. Cristian and Sophie are very friendly and easy going; they were also happy to lend me a few bits and bobs and point out some places to go walking. I was here for 3 weeks and loved every minute. I was sad to leave!

  • Friendly hosts who provided everything we needed. Nice location - quiet and secluded but only a short walk from the town. Ample space with a well equipped kitchen. Would recommend.

  • The best Airbnb we have stayed in in a lot time! Sophie and Christian are so nice, and provided eggs, muesli, and milk, which were a lifesaver after arriving super late on an empty stomach. The space is very comfy and we wish we could’ve stayed longer!

  • It's hard to fault Cedar Cottage - clean, comfortable, stylish and full of considerate touches such as homemade marmalade and fresh flowers. Hosts Lily & Jon were friendly and helpful. Our dog loved the large fully-enclosed garden area, and exploring some of the walks around the property. The cottages are close to the main road, but feel completely remote and there's no traffic noise. The perfect spot for a cosy winter break!

'The Nest' is a beautifully designed & self contained studio located on the entire top (3rd) floor of an Edwardian designed (but updated Eco) Villa. Perfect for a romantic Highland break. Just off the A9, Kingussie boasts walks & cycle routes galore - all directly from our front door. For rainy days, 'The Nest' has a treasure trove of analogue activities, so step away from the digital world for a few days. Just arrive with your bags.
The Kitchenette has: herbs & spices, kitchen utensils, cutlery, oil, vinegar, clingfilm, pack lunch box and flask, place mats, tea towels, bread, butter, ice, lemon, eggs and bacon supplied as well as a range of teas and coffees. The microwave gadgets include: 2 x pans, omelette maker, poached egg maker, boiled egg maker and rice & pasta cooker. There is a full size fridge in a cupboard for a peaceful nights sleep. Towels, dressing gown and slippers are provided as well as a hairdryer.
Our house sits on the Gynack River, you can see it from the breakfast window. Four miles away is the Highland Wildlife Park with 4 Polar Bears, Wolves, Siberian Tigers, Snow Leopards, Snow Monkeys and lots of other Northern Hemisphere animals living in a large area. Two miles in the other direction is The Highland Folk Museum, a huge open air historic and free attraction, both take a day to enjoy. There are numerous out-door activity companies for kayaking, wind surfing, rock climbing etc. There are a multitude of walks you can do from our front door into the Monaliadh hills that start pretty much where our house is or into the Cairngorm Mountain range.
  • The Nest felt like a home away from home. It had everything we needed and was the perfect place to come back from long snowy walks in the beautiful countryside. It was an ideal location and Aowyn was such a fantastic host with lots of great local tips and a great breakfast hamper. We will definitely be back.

    Emily2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect little place for a highland getaway, great location, amazing amenities and a beautiful home! The place is tidy, check in is easy, and there is absolutely everything you could need for a weekend break away. The breakfast hamper was delicious and so much choice, and a perfect host. Can't recommend a stay at Aowyn's place enough!!

    Tilly2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Hi Aowyn, thank you for the perfect stay and all the tips! We had a wonderful time! Your place and hospitality are 10/10!

    Jana2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • The nest is very warm and welcoming, with a lovely breakfast hamper, beautifully clean with lovely touches and great hosts with amazing local tips. Would definitely recommend if you’re planning a trip to the Cairngorms.

    Pip2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • At Aowyn’s you get the whole attic space to yourself. Although it is the top floor of the house it feels very private and access couldn’t be easier. The space has a retro quirky feel which works well and the bed is very comfy. Aowyn has good knowledge of the local area which she is happy to share, and is a cheerful and helpful host but one who gives you your own space. The Nest has a nice spacious bedroom. Cooking facilities are limited, there is a kettle and microwave only. However there are plenty cafes and pubs with food right on the doorstep and Aowyn leave a generous basket of goodies for breakfast.

    Hazel2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Here is a beautiful base for a few days. You are welcomed as friends with a lot of attention. But not too much. Aowyn even takes care of your dishes. The house is beautiful. All the top floor will be reserved for you to spend a quiet stay. A mucroonde is available with a specific cookbook. No other cook but lots of attention and a wonderful breakfast. And easy and free parking right next door. Really a place to go.

    Pierre2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Aowyn was welcoming and helpful. The space was spotless and spacious. The views from the windows are to die for and the accessibility and closeness to so many wonders of the Cairngorms makes this location priceless. Aowyn took her time everyday to give us tips on where to go and what to do based on what my husband and I said we wanted to see. She gave us tips on the local backroads so we could see the beautiful mountains. Her house is in the main area of Kingussie making it easy to get some food or go grocery shopping while staying there. She also gives you a welcome basket with food and snacks to get you started in your stay at Ardmore. I cannot recommend this place more and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

  • We had a very lovely cosy warm few days at the cottage. Really enjoyed the log burner and general feel of the place. Particular points to mention: OS maps of Cairngorms are on bookshelf, really useful for all outdoor activities. Spare flask really appreciated for cold days out. Beds and pillows were really comfortable although the double bed a little small (we like a big bed so dealt with this by pushing the 2 singles together and sleeping on these). There was enough wood, kindling, coal and fire lighters for at least 4 fires and you can buy more should you run out. Well stocked kitchen with sharp knives. Nice not to have to pack soap and shampoo as these also provided although there was only 1 toilet roll in the cottage. Exceptionally clean throughout. Electricity is paid via honesty box, we generally just had fire on which was enough to heat the place so didn’t use the electric radiators much. It cost us £5 for 5 days and encouraged us to be conscious of what we were using which we enjoyed! Perfect place to stay if you want a nice cosy base to hang out in while exploring the Cairngorms. It was perfect for our needs.

    howard2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage in the middle of the national park. Good base for exploring the highlands. Everything you could ask for on site - the abundant fuel for the fire was well appreciated! The gym set-up was better than you'd get in most hotels, was a nice surprise.

The Wolftrax Cafe (7 miles), the Laggan Coffee Shop and Gallery (6 miles) are favourites. We like to visit the Iron Age Fort and other places on the Laggan Walks map. Ruthven Barracks from the 1700s is close by. Another favourite place to go is Loch Insh and the Cafe and Gallery with an Italian chef, at Kincraig. Further afield but still within a 40 minute drive are the Cairngorm mountains and many beautiful glens. Then there are the wonderful drives over to Royal Deeside with splendid castles, up to the Moray coast to watch dolphins or across to the west to the Glenfinan viaduct of Harry Potter fame. If you are a fan of the BBC TV series Monarch of the Glen fan, it was filmed all round here.

My Shepherds Hut has been made less than a mile away from where it is sited. Come and experience a traditional way of life while staying in the traditional accomodation used by shepherds, tending their sheep. ( with a more modern twist). While on the croft you can. Meet the cows, feed the chickens, see collies working, feed the pigs and fuss over the pet lambs
My shepherds hut was bespoke made for me. All the tradesmen that have worked for me have lived in my village.
  • What a cosy little shepherd hut! We absolutely enjoyed our stay with at Vivian's farm. The hut was warm and cosy and you can enjoy the sunrise with a fantastic view over the valley in the morning. The breakfast was fab as well and got us going for the hole day! I can definitely recommend Vivian's farm for future guests and I hope I can come back on day:)

Lovely walks from the doorstep. Great base for outdoor activities or just some quiet relaxation. Pets allowed after discussion with owner.

Set in the Cairngorm National Park, this beautiful area offers a wide range of activities and pursuits including climbing, walking, mountain biking, sled dogs, riding, angling, golf, ornithology, water and winter sports. This is also an ideal touring base for the Central Highlands, Loch Ness, The Black Isle and the fishing villages and beautiful beaches of the Moray Firth.
  • What a wonderful cottage in a friendly little village. We stayed 10 weeks and would have loved to stay longer. Everything is within walking distance, the shop is just across the road likewise the Balavil hotel. The bird life visits daily and they are a joy to watch as you have your morning coffee. Caroline is a great host and responds to messages quickly. We would love to come back.

    Lyn2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little cottage with everything you need. Shop just across the road and a very peaceful place to stay. Friendly town. We decided to stay a extra month.

    Lyn2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Caroline's lovely cottage for two months as a base for our move to Scotland from America. The property was just as described and was very comfy and cozy. The location was perfect for exploring the Inverness and the Highlands and is just a couple hours drive from both Glasgow and Edinburgh. There is a well stocked grocery store 1/2 block away and quaint little cafes just a 5 minute walk from the cottage. There is plenty of storage space in the main bedroom which has a comfortable mattress and a large window that looks into the backyard where you can bird watch at the feeders. The other bedroom has a fold out bed and office desk and printer which was extremely helpful. The kitchen is well equipped with cookware, bakeware, and all the utensils needed. It does not have a microwave which was OK for us. The cottage has several French press sizes for brewed coffee, and an electric kettle for tea and instant coffee. There is also a clothes washing machine and large windows for watching the birds and deer that graze on the hill behind the house. The lounge/living room has two comfy leather sofas, and a working wood/coal stove which we really enjoyed, and Caroline supplied plenty of firewood and coal for our use. There is cable TV and a stereo, and lots of music CDs and books for entertainment. The back yard is relaxing with flowers and lush green grass. There is a small deck area and outdoor chairs, and a clothes line for drying the laundry. Caroline was very nice and extremely helpful as we transitioned our life from the United States to the UK. She offers a great cottage that has everything needed to enjoy beautiful, magical Scotland. Thanks Caroline!

  • I fell in love with the house with charm.

    Iris2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Caroline's for 2+ months and enjoyed myself immensely. It's the perfect base to not only roam around the Cairngorms, but also the rest of the Highlands. Having great trails and amazing hills available pretty much in the backyard felt like an enormous privilege. Caroline was a great hostess, house was flawless and information about the town and area was generous, not to mention immaculately organized. Hoping to come back again as Newtonmore is the perfect place to escape city life. :)

    Johanna2018-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and location for exploring the Highlands and surrounding area. Everything you could possibly need in the house and more...

    Andy2018-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great place.

    Alfred2018-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline’s home is a characteristic and tastefull place with everything in it you need. It is spacious, has good wifi connection and a fully equiped kitchen. The towns supermarket is 50 meters away. If you are looking for a quite time in the middle of stunning nature then this is the place to be. A big plus is also a good railway connection between Newtonmore and Kingussie, Aviemore and Inverness (north) and the south. And last but not least the rental price is very much affordable. I rented it for six month and had a wonderful time!

    Yufeng2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful, nicely decorated home that’s clean, has helpful amenities (such as a dishwasher and laundry), and is very well-kept. We found it to be a comfortable family home in a quiet neighborhood. The kitchen is a delight to cook and share meals in. The beds are comfy! There are nice touches, like games and toys, and books about the area. The location is perfectly situated for exploring the Highlands, and the surrounding town and area is peaceful and quaint - and has wonderful walks from the front door. It’s down the street from the train that runs from Glasgow to Inverness- which was quite a plus.

  • This house is just stunning inside with all fixtures, fittings and amenities done to a very high standard and beautiful gardens with outside seating. All the rooms are spacious and very well kitted out perfect for a friends getaway or family holiday. The kitchen was a brilliant space for self catering in the evening which we did and had everything needed to enjoy a great supper around the huge table. Location is great for visiting many attractions and stunning walks. There are loads of info and leaflets in the house for ideas. The village is a 5 minute walk with a large co-op and 5 or so hotels with public bars. Emma our host was incredibly helpful and quickly responsive to a few initial questions and also with suggestions of walks and places to go. We have stayed in many whole homes and apartments in and out of the UK and I can honestly say this is the most resplendent to date. Do not miss this aboulute find.

Thanks for looking after us well.. it was fabulous. Our dogs loved it too, the cottage was well set-up for four-legged friends. The log burner was cozy, the kitchen was very well-equipped and the welcome was great with some lovely touches. There were also a few walks right on the doorstep, ideal for the dogs. We highly recommend this cottage for a peaceful stay in a great location!

  • Ash Cottage at Highland Holiday Cottages, Crubenbeg, is tastefully presented in a modern rustic style. It has a woodburner, and also central heating/shower that you'd expect. All you'd need for self catering, but places nearby, if you fancy letting someone else do the cooking. It's easy to get to being just off the A9, yet is in a quite idyllic spot at the foot of the hills. Whether it's visiting local attractions, like the Dalwhinnie Distillery for a whisky tour, walking the nearby Munros at Drumochter, or Golf at the surrounding courses, there's plenty to do and Ash Cottage is a warm, welcoming and stylish place to come back to at the end of the day. I really enjoyed my stay and would happily recommend it.

The fireplace was appreciated and a well stocked kitchen for home prep. Great bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs. Easy to find, easy to access, and easy to love!
