  • Huge cabin with lots of amenities including a wood fired bathtub, workout weights and a big sound system. We had a great time staying here and it was the perfect place to go and escape from the city for a weekend. Cheers!

  • We had you send at the end of March just before flowering of cherry tree. The spacious room, the hospitality that you can spend without hesitation, the best space both indoors and outdoors. Our children were running around! Recommended for families with children and large groups.

  • Excellent get-away experience, superb value and very comfortable place to stay. The living space and property are both very large. Lovely, secluded setting, lots of privacy. Expect rustic; not clean to the standard of a city apartment, but very clean for a rustic cabin. Large kitchen area, excellent BBQ by Japan standards, warm wooden stove. There is an adjacent building where owners (or workers?) stay, but it's far enough away that you can't hear anything going on inside. Loved everything, would definitely go back!

  • A great little property, spacious, cozy, and with great atmosphere. A huge kitchen and many separate spaces within. Perfect for groups of any size.

  • It is highly recommended for those who want to spend time with their family in a log house in the middle of nature! The children were very pleased to have many extraordinary experiences, such as wood burning, feeding chickens, and Goemon bath. I want to visit again with my family!

  • I'm glad!

  • Thank you for having a really good time. Two days and three days, I arrived here in search of a place where my dog was ok. Before I went there, I was excited with a nice house with pet ok, Goemon bath, wood stove referring to your reviews, but I was surprised where it was more than expected. Above all, the owners care very much about the relationship, and the hospitality that we want our guests to enjoy and comfortably is very wonderful. It was too comfortable to go out, but I spent all day in the house. The surroundings of the house are natural and airy, and there are wild animals and fun. In addition, the wood stove, Goemon bath, and futon are warm and comfortable enough to stay a little longer. There are other audio devices, and I enjoyed the music by connecting to the cable. It was romantic with indirect lighting, sound and wood stove in the room. In addition, there is a small supermarket 15 minutes from the house, and if you want to buy various things, there is a medium-sized supermarket from the house to Kyoto city and Obama each 40 minutes. You need to bring a towel and a toothbrush. Other amenities are available. In addition, it is a repeat decision for the hospitality of the owner who wants to return home. It is a recommended house that everyone wants to experience.

.A environmentally friendly wooden house with kitchen and bathroom(shower and bathtub) at the edge of small mountain village. Beautiful creeks and nice treks nearby. Best place for those who love nature and who want to spend quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
1- Guests stay in a small detached house that stands right by host family's house. There is one single bed, one thick mattress and several sets of Futons( Japanese rather thick blankets and beddings). 2- IMPORTANT: Please pay extra fee for heating (actual cost of fuel that you use) during winter time ; it's very cold here and you will likely be using stove all through the day. We have a kerosene stove and an electric carpet; when you use up the fuel for the kerosene stove, the fuel charge is 700 JPY. Still it won't be like a central-heated house, so please wear warm clothes even inside. 3- IMPORTANT-Our place is located in a remote, depopulated mountain village where there is no commercial facility ; it takes 35 minutes by car to go to the nearest town of Kutsuki Ichiba, where grocery stores, gas stations, a bank and small eating places are available. 4- It takes about 90 minutes by car to get here from the central Kyoto city. 5- IMPORTANT- There are only 4 services of community bus that leaves from the above- mentioned town (Kutsuki Ichiba) to come to this village area in one day. 6- You can use the kitchen in the guest house to cook for yourself. We can also cook simple vegetarian food for you by request ; please let us know beforehand ; we may not be able to do that due to circumstances. Extra fee will be charged ; lunch 1000 yen /dinner 1500 yen. Breakfast is not available.
This is an old, small mountain village with traditional Japanese farm houses with thatched roof. There is an ancient mountain path nearby that was used to carry things back and forth from Japan sea coast to Kyoto. There are more nice treks running in primeval beech forests and beautiful creeks nearby.
  • What an amazing stay! We truly enjoyed living in the little cottage, surrounded by nature. The family was also so nice, always willing to help and have a nice conversation. Their English is also very good, which is always nice for foreign travellers. Would definitely recommend!

    Charlotte2020-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • I was very relaxed in nature. In a good way, it was rural and my dog was able to run around without a lead, and I was able to relax and forget about my whole family. Also, there are many interesting books in the book corner in the guest house, so I think that you can spend a wonderful time even if you are not blessed with the weather.

  • By being away from daily life and spending time in nature, they taught me what was really important. I remember the comfort of being simple. If you live in a city full of things, it will be a great stay. The exchange with Haruya guesthouse was also a fun time. I would also like to ask again.

  • The landlord not only shared his house, but more about their lifestyle and stories. It is very suitable for recommending people who like to be close to nature. It is a pity to live only one night.

We are grateful for the warm hospitality and the excellent homecooked meals they shared with us. As a tourist, I search for a deeper connection to Japan. There is no doubt, I found it here.

  • What a delight this was. Kei was a wonderful host who was thoughtful, generous, and kind. We enjoyed getting to know him and chatting about random things :) His farm is in a magical part of Kyoto and definitely worth the trek. Plus, his pickles are delicious!

  • In a very quiet environment, it was a well-equipped facility that you wouldn't think of as an old private house. This time, I had a barbecue with a family with two children, and I was really thankful that the owner arranged a lot of work. There was a river nearby and it was possible to play in the river, but it did not come true due to the typhoon, but the children enjoyed the countryside by catching insects and exploring. I would like to take advantage of this opportunity.

  • It is a wonderful experience living in Kazu’s lovely house. It is in the north of Kyoto with fresh air and beautiful mountain nearby. Kazu is so nice and friendly that he picked me up from the station and took me to the miyama for let me have a good time to travel around. He also took me to some local place where he think is beautiful and worthy for traveling. It is very helpful and memorable trip. Kazu’s English is so cool that you can communicate with the young guy without any problem. It is a lovely and traditional Japanese house and if people want to enjoy the quiet and mountain Kyoto,it is a wonderful choice. Thank you very much,Kazu, wish all you best. :)

  • Kei’s place was both a beautiful traditional home and an experience. Making our way there by public transportation was a bit daunting, but well worth the effort. Kei spent a day taking us to a nearby thatched roof village and a mountain onsen. It was truly a highlight of our visit.

  • In a calm mountain river, I enjoyed staying in an environment that I can not easily experience in a normal town. The host was working on farming, and when I stayed, I was able to get a pot with vegetables. It was a stay with 4 friends, but it was a very fulfilling trip, with old folk houses being rented out.

  • Kazu is a very good landlord, handsome and good. I contacted us very early, and also personally picked us up to the station, waiting for us to play, and still have dinner and breakfast at his house. These are free. Dinner is what he personally gave us, authentic Japanese hot pot. . He is very fluent in English, but unfortunately our English is too bad, we can only talk about some simple things. His family is very traditional with Japanese characteristics. It is a very authentic Japanese-style country house. It has the feeling of a small forest in Japanese movies, and the home is very clean, except for a little cold during the day, no heating, only a small heater, but the quilt covered at night. Still very warm!

  • We had a unique weekend at Kei's beautiful traditional house. It was a rare opportunity to experience authentic rural Japanese lifestyle. Kei grows his own organic vegetables which we used when he taught us how to cook Japanese dishes. He is fluent in English and we learned a lot about Japanese culture while eating the delicious food we prepared together. Kei took us to local attractions such as a farming village nearby with preserved building style, a hot springs spa, an impressive dam and the river front. There are hiking and biking trails and serene shrines. There are other seasonal activities in the area such as fishing and paragliding. Kei is a warm, gracious and generous host. He genuinely cared for our needs and was happy to answer our many questions and requests.

If you are not too strict about comfort, then you should definitely try this location. Food is excellent, nature breathtaking, and the crowds from the big cities become a distant memory...

  • The couple in the owner's warehouse are very enthusiastic. Mr. Cangne knows that we are waiting for us at the Gongbeu bus station early after our approximate schedule, and we will pick us up by car. This is a relatively rural area in Japan. The environment is very good and it is very quiet at night. The wife in the warehouse helped us to lay the bedding, and also took some small toys for the children to play, the whole process was enthusiastic and thoughtful, and the other cooking was delicious, the children did not have to eat, saying that Meishan milk is the most they have ever drunk. Good milk. Mr. Cangne drove us to the scenic spot of Meishan Town. There is no ticket for the scenic spot. It takes about 20 minutes by car and about 10 kilometers. The scenery is very good. The main director is very good

Come and visit Kyoto's mountainous area and stay in a traditional thatched-roof (Kayabuki) house. The specialty of our house is that you can eat Japanese family dishes cooked by the local host couple, and you can even learn how to cook them :)
--The space-- The town we live in is called Keihoku. It's only 1 hour North from central Kyoto and you can enjoy stunningly majestic mountain and river scenery, fresh air, and meet heart-warming people. We also offer some unique nature tours!
--The neighborhood-- Here in Keihoku, you can put yourself in majestic nature - enjoy trekking riverside, travel to the waterfall and giant cedar forest, or visit and pray in peaceful temples and shrines.
  • Hideo and Yukako (and their dogs) are some of the friendliest people we've ever met. Hideo picked us up at the bus station and everything was great from the first minute. He showed us around the town to grocery stores and the farmer's market, as well as being available for excursions out into the woods and to the thatched village of Miyama. He fed us meat he had caught himself one night, as well as Yukako and him teaching us the proper way to make temaki on another. He was full of useful information about the local area and took around to local restaurants (he's a bit of a celebrity --- everyone in town seems to love him!). The house we stayed in used heaters room-by-room, so it was always cozy when we fired them up. The timber framing and thatch of his home were breathtakingly gorgeous. Much of the maintenance and upgrades, he has done himself by hand and the dedication to the property really shows. This was a one-of-a-kind home I very strongly and enthusiastically recommend. Ten stars! Twenty stars!

  • This is a special experience and one of our favourite in Japan. Hideo and Yuka are amazing hosts and cannot do enough for you. Hideo provides lots of local tips and places of interest. Yuka is an incredible chef who created memorable and delicious food. I highly recommend staying here in this generous and cozy accommodation. It’s just an hour outside Kyoto and easy access to many significant cultural and historic sites. if you are looking for a unique farm stay then this is the place for you. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you Hideo and Yuka for looking after us so well with your generosity and charm.

Yokako is lovely and a great cook. Shuzan is a very pretty town in the mountains and a great experience of Japan. Our stay with Hideo and Yokako was the highlight of our Japan trip.

Our shared meals were something we won't forget, their hospitality is exceptional and the house is so comfortable We will definitely come back on our next trip A must for anyone looking to experience the real side of Japan

  • We wanted to see the rural side of Japan and so the idea of spending time in a 200 year old farm house appealed to us. It does take 80 minutes by bus from the rail station to reach the house. Hideo was right there to meet us and offered to take us shopping at the local store. We were amazed that the little grocer had A5 Kyoto beef right there, so we bought that and had an exceptional first night meal! The following morning was the first chance that we had to appreciate Hideo’s village. It was a little misting so instead of trying to ride bikes we asked Hideo to take us on a tour. What an amazing experience. Hideo is the ultimate ambassador for his village. He took us to the local shrines and explained a lot about the religious culture of the area. We then went to lunch and had an incredible sit down lunch with the local chefs. The next stop was a thatched roof village that was so inspiring that artist from all around were there spending the afternoon painting the beautiful scenery. This was a full day. We then stopped by a different grocer for a supply of fresh seafood to make a sushi dinner. No sushi dinner would be complete with first stopping by the local SAKE brewery for a tour and some of their finest brew. The evening was spent sitting around an unbelievable spread of Sushi prepared by Hideo and his lovely wife, Yucako. What great company. Overall just one of those “Aha” experiences

Just a one hour trip on the train.Non-tourist destination awaits who looks for more deep understanding of Japanese culture. An our guest says"here is like the Ghibli world!"You can either enjoy on a bike or spend a lazy day just walking around .This house was completed more than 50years ago and is already refurbished in some parts so that you can stay cozy and have an experience in staying in an old and simple Japanese Minka.
We offer you a Japanese style house with tatami floor with 4season-beautiful nature view.
This area covered by fog almost all around a year so that you can enjoy a morning walk in the small community which remains an old countryside life "real Japan life". Our guest from overseas always enjoy this freely stay. If you're an expert traveler, here could be on your list!

  • As a former 5 star hotel manager, I know a well managed guesthouse when I see one. The guesthouse is a modernly renovated aged Japanese styled house on a hill with a fantastic view of the rice fields and train. Just off the side of the main Road, far enough to not hear the traffic and close enough for an easy find. Convenience store is 2 min away by car. Kitchen is fully equipped, we cooked many meals throughout our stay and enjoyed every minute. Laundry was easy, we're The place is impeccably clean and well thought out to provide the most comfortable Japanese experience. The property is a long strip minka house divided into two independent units, we enjoyed the privacy and also the friendship as the owner is a young Couple with a 1 year old living next door, we went with our 4 year old and he had a blast making friends on the shared lawn and our kid really loved the herbs garden. The host speaks excellent English and is sensitive to our wishes to be left alone, at the same time is also approachable providing suggestions to local areas that are non-touristy. Our experienced went well beyond my expectation of the place, especially for this price, we'll definitely be back. Must drive, very easy to find, about 50 meters away from the main road, the view is super good, you can see the train, and the fields, the distant mountains, more beautiful than the photos. Convenience store is driving for two minutes. Old Japanese houses have been remodeled, and the interior is very textured. The tatami bedroom of the dark green algae wall is very popular. It is a narrow strip of houses divided into two separate sides. The owner is a young couple living next door. The wife is very English. Fluent communication. Completely independent space, slightly smaller but complete, washing machine is very convenient, invincible clean shower, no bathtub. There is a small turf and vanilla plantation in front of the house. Our four-year-old child made a friend and was very happy. Incredibly clean, great kitchen, we cooked a lot of meals, and super cute Japanese plates. The homeowner is very attentive and empathetic. He also suggested a lot of small marketes, such as the breakfast lodge, and the kimono experience. Here is more than expected, suitable for friends who want to experience the local life, there are no tourists around, the locals are very friendly, and very curious how we will come here, haha, where the CP value is broken, Big push

  • The public transportation in the deep mountains far from the city is inconvenient. We are driving. So it is easier to go to the hot springs to abandon the remodeling of the primary school. It is easier to go to the landlord. The couple are very kind and tell us that these places can be played very well. The indoor facilities are clean and clean. There is air conditioning in the house, even if it is a deep mountain, I don’t worry about the hot and cold problem. I need to bring my own toothbrush, towel and washing. I don’t want the hotel to be as complete. It’s a better place to stay and travel than I expected.

A guesthouse hololon is run by youngest daughter(43) who has traveled in many countries with help of Granpa(77) who has preserved KAYABUKI thatched house and IRORI sunken hearth In our 220-year-old house where the ancestors have lived over generations, I wish you would stay over & experience authentic life in the peaceful nature. Let's cook together with seasonal vegetables fresh eggs ! Grandpa knows a lot about local history and culture, so he is your best conversation partner over sake!
・Booking is only available for 5 people per night. The view from guest rooms are so peaceful. You can see garden with many kind of tree and pond and mountains.
Our ancestors settled down this place around 8th century with other subordinates of the emperor's family. Near my house there is a beautiful zen temple founded by one emperor who retired his place in 14th century. You can walk around my neighbor, and touch Japanese traditional cultures and history which had supported the old capital for more than 1,000 years.
  • Absolutely fantastic, "must go"-type of place, and that's not exaggerating if you like anauthentic Japanese experience in beautiful country surroundings. Astounding. Yoriko and her dad are so genuine. We were lucky enough to enjoy a completely snow clad landscape, and even though it was very cold both inside and outside, it was great. Will go again!

  • Staying at Yoriko's family home was an incredible experience! Their hospitality made us feel a part of the family. Yoriko attended to all of our needs and staying in such a traditional Japanese home was an amazing experience. The scenery surrounding the home is incredible and the temple up the road is our favourite temple we have visited in Japan. Thank you so much Yoriko!!

  • Thanks to Yoriko and her dad for this timeless stay. We come out sharply and happy to have been able to exchange and share so many things. I highly recommend to everyone.

  • Staying in Yoriko's house is definitely the best experience of our journey! Yoriko and her father were very welcoming and cute, gave us hand-drawn maps, told history, and showed us the interior of their house. Their house is very simple and exquisite, just a three-minute walk from Changzhao Huang Temple. Changzhao Emperor Temple is very quiet, away from the hustle and bustle, you can really enjoy the beautiful scenery! Yoriko personally met us at the station and drove us around to see the wild deer and cook delicious food for us. When we left, we took a photo together in the yard, very fond memories! Yoriko also dropped us off in Kyoto and was always patient to help us find a place to store our luggage. In short, thank you very much for the reception of Yoriko and her father, and highly recommend everyone to stay in their home! • This is definitely one of the biggest highlights of my trip to Japan! It’s a beautiful home in stunning scenery. Yoriko and her father are so kind and welcoming and made us feel at home. We loved cooking together and learning Japanese! The temple is a must visit too, it’s just a short walk and is the most peaceful/least touristy temple we visited. We can’t thank Yoriko enough for this amazing experience!

  • Yoriko and her house is amazing! The house and surrounding area are stunning. We had a lovely time and would definitely recommend it!

  • choosing yoriko's house is my best decision in this trip. Firstly, yoriko is a very gentle women and her father has a really good sense of humor. they are great hosts. Yoriko’s house located in the northern part of kyoto(keihoku area), a little bit far from center kyoto, but the transportation is convenient, because there are JR buses every 30mins from kyoto station to shuzan station. Yoriko will pick you up at shuzan station. So, don’t worry about the location. In side the house, i discribe it as very clean, comfortable, traditional big tachted house that has everything necessary in it. The host leave the best area of the house for guest. We sleep very well during the stay. About the surroundings of the house , it has a great rice field and forest view, just like a beautiful picture. Near the house, there is a temple named “常照皇寺’’, a quiet and beautiful temple. we recommend guest to visit there. We also had 2 dinners there, yoriko charged very little fee for dinner and we had chicken barbecue, sushi buffet. I can say, yoriko could be a great chef beacuse the meal she cook is just good-looking and delicious. She even provide with fruits like blueberries and pinapples after every meal. About the stay in shuzan area, yoriko had good suggestions, and she can reserve some experience curriculum for us, and as a host ,she even walked with us to show us a good hiking course. Thanks a lot for it. After our stay, yoriko send us to kyoto station, really appreciate it!!! It is really my best Airbnb experience!!!

  • Very neat and clean, everything is complete, it is as convenient as home, the landlord is friendly, careful, enthusiastic, pick up luggage at Kyoto station, let us have more time to play more attractions

  • The B&B is quite close to the Keihan Fujimori Station. There are supermarkets and supermarkets nearby. The landlord is very enthusiastic and has a quick response. There is a kitchen in the house, which can be opened by yourself. The only fly in the ointment is that there is only one bathroom (two in the toilet). When you are staying, you need to arrange your own time to wash, and the rest of the room facilities are quite perfect.

  • The house was fresh and clean right when we got in. The bathroom had both a shower and a large soaking tub which was very needed after walking all day. Each room has an adjustable air unit as well as water and some travel amenities. They had a lovely washer but no actual dryer just hang dry. Aside from that the owner helped us out by picking us up at Kyoto station and dropping us off at the house!!! Such a wonderful home and great hospitality!!

Completed in 2013 the result is a blend between the best of the old thatched architecture with modern more compact floor plan and features like underfloor heating and full air conditioning. Located in the place off the beaten track.
The cottage is a scenic thatched cottage complete with all the modern conveniences. Surrounded by mountains, beautiful rice fields and a bamboo forest, this is the perfect place to relax and unwind. This house is surrounded by rice fields and bamboo forests, a perfect place to relax and explore the beautiful Miyama a countryside. With an uninterrupted view of the mountains and valley, you can sit outside on the porch and enjoy the sunset. Especially popular with families as children can make a ruckus and play outside on the lawn without disturbing any neighbours (there are none close enough to disturb).
This brand new thatched cottage was built by local wood craftsmen using exclusively local timber in collaboration with our own thatched roof specialist. Completed in 2013 the result is a blend between the best of the old thatched architecture with modern more compact floor plan and features like underfloor heating and full air conditioning. The deck provides a great space for eating outdoors or reading a book in the shade while taking in the scenic view. Downstairs the floor plan is open and functional with a combined modern fully equipped kitchen, dining area and lounge. Upstairs under a canopy of thatch there are comfy beds for 5 people and extra futons if required (for up to 7 guests in total). There are 3 single beds in one bedroom and a double bed in a separate room. The traditional wooden bathtub is a treat for the senses as this type of wood (Japanese cedar) gives off a wonderful perfume.
  • A modern rural villa built in the thatched roof traditional style. A welcome break from our city stays in Japan. The facilities were outstanding, everything we needed was provided. The beds were most comfortable and the stairs wider and not as steep as elsewhere. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast provisions. Set among the rice paddies in a valley we had great walks. The drive from Kyoto was easier than expected. Recommend cafe in Nantan near the City Office. Highlight of our trip.

  • My family and myself love the apt. I brought my two kids (1&2 year old) here and it's very safe for them to run around in the big grass around the house. My parents love it since it's so refreshing to live in such a quiet and natural neighborhood with full equipped house to make ourselves really comfortable. They also provided good equipment so you can actually do some local stuff like walking in the forest and neighborhood. The apt itself is very comfortable and they provide good amount of food for breakfast. We did bbq and it was so much fun. The only thing is that we only stayed for one night whilst I realized how much more we can do if we stay longer. Will definitely visit again in the future. I highly recommend people who would take good care of this amazing property to stay at this house.

    Jenny2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in the country with our kids here. The staff made it so easy for us, picking us up and dropping us off where we needed to be. The house was charming, bikes available to explore and a nice break from the city. The cooking class was really fun for all of us and very authentic.

    Erika2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to escape the pace of the larger cities in Japan. Beautiful scenery and great location to walk and ride bikes. A rental car would allow you to explore the area further but we enjoyed being car free and the trip to Sonobe station was a breeze from Kyoto.

  • We travel Japan with two children. The kaya villa is a great place for family as they provide bicycle for kids and we can ride safely in this fabulous scenery. Yusa is very nice to answer us promptly and all staffs can communicate efficiently in English is really a place point. We have a great stay at kaya village and will definitely recommend this place to visitors coming to Japan.

    Yuen Feong2016-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • Yusa-san was able to communicate effectively in English with us, that is a plus point for foreigners. The surrounding around the villa is very picturesque and we had a great time exploring the neighborhood. The villa itself is very roomy and homely.

    Daphne2016-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this cottage experience! Fresh and modern inside with a traditional look on the outside, it was the perfect country retreat. It's just an hour outside of Kyoto (a city which seems crowded with tourists in comparison), and it's well-worth the drive thru picturesque Japanese countryside and villages to enjoy a peaceful refuge in Miyama. The view out the kitchen windows was a beautiful bamboo grove and the front glass doors opened up to the tranquil, lush fields and mountains beyond. Our son enjoyed running down the country lanes and over a bridge spanning the river. We loved the cedar bathtub and spa-like shower room. The kitchen was modern, spacious, open-concept and well-stocked, including a full-size fridge and stove range with pots and pans. A lovely breakfast with bread, local milk, eggs, cereal, and coffee was included. Yusa was kind and helpful and provided instructions in English for appliances as well as an emergency cell phone. We all said we would love to stay here again when we return to Kyoto!

  • We spent a very pleasant three days and two nights at Yuki's house. Every morning Eriko will make a good breakfast for us, with some organic vegetables in the backyard. In the evening Yuki personally cooks for us to make tempura. How can pumpkin tempura dipped in soy sauce so delicious! Yuki took us with our son over one year old, and we went hiking together. Children over one year old hiking in the forest and doing very well. In the evening, we will go to experience tea service and experience tea culture. We will definitely be back!

  • As city people, it was extrenely refreshing to experience the countryside life that kuchu san and his family warmly provided for us. We truly enjoyed the serenity of the location, surrounded by many mountains and rivers. Their accomodation had a very homely feel and they welcomed us with utmost care, staying there felt as if we were visiting family. We highly recommend the traditional japanese paper making, mochi making and trekking as it was a very unique experience to Ayabe. These experiences offer not only offer an exclusive taste of Ayabe but also the locals. If you ever need anything at all, Kuchu-san, his wife and his adorable baby boy are always there to make sure you receive the best hospitality. They are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Ayabe, and it is heartwarming to see how they help the community and promote local culture and specialties to the world. The meals they provide make use of local produce such as home grown organic vegetables and free-range chicken, additionally it is also reasonably priced. All in all, this has one of the best air bnb we have experienced and we hope many others can have the same wonderful experience. If you want a farmstay, this is the place to go.

  • It was an amazing experience unlike any other. We got to stay in a cozy house in the midst of the mountains and forests. The scenery and view is great and the house is really clean and comfortable. Teriyuki and Eriko are excellent hosts, they helped us to plan our itinerary and we did various things - visit the local Onsen which was amazing, make mochi, pick yuzu fruits, pick radishes, enjoy the river, cook breakfast and dinner together. They are so hospitable and friendly, and took care of our every needs. I highly recommend this stay if you’re looking for a unique experience in the countryside of Japan!

    Abigail2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts are very friendly and it’s a huge place for two of us in the whole guest house. It’s slightly difficult to find but the host waited at the main entrance street. Super!

  • It was a wonderful stay where you could come in contact with nature while feeling the comfort and warmth of a home away from home. In the morning, we woke up with clean air, ate rice with our hosts and guests, and walked through forests and village paths during the day to see various plants, insects and wild birds. The host gave me various experiences such as a dinner party with migrants at night, and I was lonely to go home. I felt like I had a second home. You can experience more than ordinary travel, so it is a recommended home for those who want to experience various things in an environment surrounded by nature, and of course those who want to relax.

    Yuka2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • I went to a nearby sightseeing spot this time, so I used it. Thank you very kindly The memories here are burned in my heart. I would like to ask you again. I have been taught a lot about Ayabe and Kambayashi, so next time I would like to tour the neighborhood. The dinner option is recommended because the food is delicious.

    Kazuo2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • A family of three, a couple living in the mountains of Ayabe City, Kyoto, and a young child. Around the house is a wonderful environment surrounded by mountains, rivers and nature. Despite check-in after dark, the family welcomed us with a quick response. The rice and rice bowls you prepared were delicious! I think this guesthouse is especially suitable for guests who like nature. I can highly recommend "satoyama guesthouse couture" especially who loves nature. I could reach the guesthouse easily because the host gave messages back so quickly! I could stay n talk comfortably with other guests! I wanna come back here again sometime.

Mitoya is a classical example of a traditional thatched cottage or “kayabuki” in Japanese. Located in a tranquil rural community with views of rice fields and mountains it’s an ideal place for people who want to cycle and hike in nature . The perfect contrast to the bright lights of Tokyo and the crowded tourist scene in Kyoto, Mitoya will give you a chance to see and feel the real Japan.
The interior has earthen walls, tatami straw matts, futons and an “irori” or hearth where you can cook over charcoal and enjoy the glow of a real fire.
Miyama, experience the real Japan. Away from the packed trains and convenience stores lies a quiet rural Japan. The pace of life is slow and deeply intertwined with the changing seasons. We invite you to take a few days to unwind and get in touch with the roots of Japans ancient "Satoyama" culture.

  • We went to Yasuko’s house for 2 days in February. It was the most authentic Japanese experience ever. Yasuko and her family was so welcoming and showed us around the countryside, we went for a long walk in the mountains to see a beautiful waterfall, we went to see her daughter Aoi play Japanese drums and they prepared really good Japanese meals for us. We went out for lunch at a local rice bakery with the family - they are all so nice. So if you’re looking for a authentic Japanese experience we highly recommend staying with Yasuko. Also Yasuko picked us up at the bus terminal and drove us back there when we were leaving which was really convenient. She can also help you with great places to visit in Kobe and other places around Japan. Couldn’t d wish for a better host than Yasuko.

He is a lovely person and outstanding Air B n B host! We highly recommend the walking tour of the Ashiu forest. The house was fantastic, and a really unique experience for our family. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We took up the option of the BBQ set one night, and cooked it very successfully over the open hearth. What a treat. We highly recommend Miyama Futon and Breakfast!

  • We self-drove to Miyama so we met Taka at the supermarket, he helped us buy ingredients to make dinner later. After checking in at the office he took us to the house. It's absolutely gorgeous, and very spacious. Taka took time showing us around, and showed us the water music home in the room behind the house too. That evening we made a delicious deer nabe over the traditional hearth. The next day we did a fantastic bamboo craft workshop with Fumio which was hugely enjoyable. Really loved the entire experience!

  • It was a bit of a drive down to Miyama but it's all worth it. Love the smell of the place, fresh and old. It's a great get away from the city, would recommend anyone who wish to experience the different side of Japan.

  • House accurately reflected pictures and was even bigger than expected! It was clean, huge and can easily accommodate a large group. The area was beautiful, we especially enjoyed riding bikes and walking around the countryside. Our only regret was that we did not stay longer, it is very relaxing and peaceful. The cooking experience was wonderful and delicious and the cycling tour was beautiful, informative and interesting. The morning breakfast was outstanding and delicious. All staff were polite, welcoming, and helpful. We would certainly stay here again in the future.

Located in the heart of a small hamlet adjacent to the clear flowing waters of Yura river, Eisa cottage has a large wooden deck from which you can admire the surrounding landscape. The fragrant cedar wood bathtub is positioned under a thatched roof and has a fantastic view that you can enjoy while you bathe. This modernised farmhouse retains its rustic charm, though we have added new features such as a small bar and a wine cellar.
You can also visit this cottage with your pet if you like which is rare in Japan. Anyone wanting a traditional experience in a luxurious mountain getaway is sure to be delighted with a stay at Eisa.

  • If you are looking to discover a different side of Japan which is rural, traditional and down to the earth, this is the ideal place for you. Our wonderful hosts both speak very well English and could explain the local history and culture to us. They are also excellent cooks if you want to enjoy some hearty delicious Japanese home cooking that involves the freshest locally grown ingredients. The place is located in a pristine mountain area with a picture-perfect scenery straight out from a Miyazaki animation where you can see typical wooden houses and beautiful rice fields. At night, we usually drove around and did a night time safari where you can see wild boars, deers, stags, and foxes. Their nature is very well preserved and there are bears as well. We made mochi with the local ladies, went to visit a local school that has been transformed into a washi paper workshop as well as tasted a local bakery. Our host took very good care of us and we got to explore the countryside with him. The local onsen (hot spring) is a must! If you have enough time like us, you can drive about 30 mins from the house and discover the coastal area of Kyoto which is splendid and great for biking with kids. Our whole family loved this experience especially the kids because they could really experience Japanese culture 100%.

  • This house might be enough reason to travel to Japan. Teruyuki and Eriko, and baby Saku, are one of the most heartwarming hosts, and people, I've ever encountered. I felt immediately at home. The house is renovated by this couple and it feels so cozy! In a mix between traditional and modern Japanese, the kitchen just feels very welcoming for a cooking session while the living and bedrooms are in a more traditional style, very comfy on tatami, a kotatsu table (best thing to ever exist) and heated cloths for the bed. The drive is long and hard but the reward stays with you. What a blessing. And these two will even share food, cooking, walks and many different activities you might feel up to. A great pity to have stayed only for so little time. Greatly recommend this home, do not miss out if you need to stay nearby!

  • The host is very kind. The kitchen is also fulfilling and you can cook foods you bought locally at will. Could you introduce delicious local chicken shops? There is a hot spring near, too.

  • Drive less than two hours from the city. In a place closer than I thought, there was a quiet and beautiful place, and a pretty Linove house more than I imagined. Everything was perfect, but it was particularly impressive that there was a wide variety of souvenirs by guests such as canned food, seasoning, alcohol and so on. We also put Saba can and Chick peas. (Instead of using squid ink and coconut milk, Korean canned mysterious canned etc ...) Thank you very much for the priceless space reasonably.

  • It's a fantastic stay with the guesthouse. The couple is so friendly, helpful, excellent communication, also spend time to drive you to other villages. Stay in the guesthouse is very silent. Highly recommanded.
