Some of the walls of the inn were DIY and we carefully selected the interior ourselves.Antique stained glass, Yusuke Noguchi's Japanese paper lighting, Simmons beds, and Muji bed linen are all designed to make guests feel at home.You can feel the old scenery of Kyoto as it is. The soft light and shadow from the courtyard quietly tells the story of the life of the Kyoto townhouse for more than a hundred years. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, we recommend experiencing life like a local and staying in accommodation for travellers to Kyoto. This townhouse is rented out as a whole, so you don't need to share space with other guests. You can enjoy a private and quiet time with your family or friends. We will renovate the interior walls of the house ourselves. The interior furnishings and decorations are carefully selected and arranged by us. Antique stained glass, Yusuke Noguchi designed Japanese paper lamps, Simmons mattress and Muji bedding, Every detail is intended to make guests feel the warmth and security of being at home, and to quietly experience the unique atmosphere of Kyoto.

京町家コテージkarigane
Built in the early Showa era and long used as a tea ceremony classroom, the townhouse has been reborn as a private rental inn, "Kyomachiya Cottage karigane". It is a 1-minute walk to the hot springs and Daikokuji Temple, which has deep ties to tea. Shino, with its unique cafes, coffee roasters, delicious Japanese confectionery stores, bakeries, and soba shops. Please use the carefully restored Kyomachiya as your base for sightseeing in northern Kyoto, where time flows slowly, with a focus on natural materials and traditional craftsmanship by Miyadai Koge and Saigo craftsmen.

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

This place used to be one big guesthouse, but during Covid19, I have stopped running the guesthouse and I moved in with my wife and 2 kids. Still I didn't want to give up so I left the good parts. Private cypress bath and renovated rooms and made another entrance for the Guests. So now it is 2 separate house Please check the house rules before you book.
