  • This place is 10/10 outstanding. It's a wonderful location, it's STUPID CUTE, the caravan has all sorts of weird and wonderful decorations and Katherine - we didn't meet Arthur - is lovely. Seriously, my bf and I want to live there!! We can't fault the place. Great brekkie options, great location and wonderful hosts. Stop reading this, just book it!!!! And FYI Peterhead prison museum and the Fraserburgh lighthouse museum are excellent and the Chinese - Umi - in Cruden Bay is great but doesn't do deliveries. We will definitely be looking to head back up to the Lily Pod at some point 😍

'High Tide' is a traditional fisherman's cottage overlooking the golden sands of Cruden Bay within the conservation area of Port Erroll. Recently refurbished to a high standard the cottage with its bright interior serves as an ideal base for exploring the many delights of the Banff & Buchan area.
Cruden Bay and its immediate environs has much to offer whether simply as an escape from the stresses and strains of city life or for a more structured holiday focusing on your favourite hobby or pastime. Whether it's kitesurfing, sea kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, angling, walking, bird watching, or golfing, High Tide Cottage is the ideal base for all these activities. Directly across the road from the cottage follow the path down through the newly laid garden to a seated viewpoint situated upon the sand dunes themselves and take in the wonderful panoramic views over the golden sands that stretch for over two miles before you. A paradise for bird watchers and dog walkers alike, artists and writers may also find the inspiration they seek amidst the beauty and energy Cruden Bay offers. Whatever the traveller is looking for - Cruden Bay delivers !
Take a short walk from High Tide Cottage - 10 to 15 minutes - and you will find the ruin of Slains Castle perching ominously upon the craggy coastal cliffs. The author Bram Stoker stayed there on occasion during the late 1890s, the "octagonal room" within Slains Castle featuring in his most famous novel 'Dracula'. During his regular visits to Cruden Bay the celebrated author also stayed at the Kilmarnock Arms Hotel where many a traveller has found a warm welcome. To this day the hotel offers excellent fayre and great service. Cruden Bay Golf Course - currently Ranked 71st in the World - lies directly across the Waters of Cruden with the 4th hole visible from High Tide Cottage garden. Described as both a unique and an unforgettable experience the course itself was originally designed in 1899 by Tom Morris of St. Andrews and Archie Simpson and then subsequently re-designed by Tom Simpson and Herbert Fowler during the 1920's. Alternative golf courses abound within the immediate area with Royal Aberdeen 25 miles away - ranked 57th - and a short ten minute drive will take you to Trump International Golf Links - ranked 60th globally. Birdwatchers are also exceptionally well catered for with Forvie National Nature Reserve 7 miles to the south and Loch of Strathbeg Nature Reserve 17 miles north. Closer still - 2 miles along the coast - you will find "The Bullers of Buchan", an almost circular chasm - "the pot" - over 100 feet deep, formed when a sea cave collapsed. Through this natural archway the ocean ebbs and flows to the sound of Kittiwake, Razorbills, Guillemots and Puffins. Wild orchid, campion and heather add colour to the already spectacular scenery. N.B. These cliffs are wild and sometimes dangerous places, great care should be taken when visiting them. Children MUST be closely supervised and dogs should be kept on leads at all times ! As well as Slains Castle the Aberdeenshire area is well served by many other historic castles - Tolquhon Castle, 18 miles away - Fyvie Castle, 28 miles - Castle Fraser, 34 miles - Drum Castle, 38 miles - Crathes Castle, 43 miles - Huntly Castle, 44 miles - Dunottar Castle, 46 miles - Craigievar Castle, 52 miles - Huntly Castle, 44 miles - Balmoral Castle, 74 miles - Braemar Castle 81 miles.

  • Mandy & Gary's place is amazing, you will not be disappointed. The location is fantastic, a stones throw from the cleanest beach I have ever been on. The house has everything you need , is cosy and beautifully furnished. Mandy and Gary are wonderful hosts, always willing to have a chat and provide you with local information, whilst respecting your privacy. The enclosed garden just across the road is a great place to sit and watch the activity on the beach, whilst providing a safe space for the dog to run around. We will definitely be back.

  • Within sight and sound of the shoreline, a haven. Refurbished to a high standard of quality and taste it is mile from the humble residence it once was but respect is given the origins with old photos of cotters and cottages. It shows how far we have come in a short time and makes me wonder how we would fare in their times and conditions and what they would make of their living space now

    Jj2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • My 3rd stay in this quaint and idyllic cottage. It offers everything you will ever need in a beautiful location. Will be back shortly and would highly recommends high tide cottage. Mandy and Gary are extremely thoughtful and excellent hosts.

The space is so lovely and calming, the beds are comfy and cozy, the kitchen is beautiful and well equipped for cooking and the views of the nearby hills are in a word picturesque - what’s not to love? And the icing on the cake is the warm and welcoming hospitality of Pauline! She left us a few groceries, potatoes from her gardens and met us/sent us off during our check ins and outs. Beach House Recently Refurbished, light, bright and brilliantly situated right on the Beach in the small village of Cruden Bay 26 miles North of Aberdeen. Bram Stroker himself holidayed in Cruden Bay back in the late 1800's and many believe that the Local Slains castle inspired Dracula. Also, right on the doorstep of this unique property is the World Famous Championship Golf Course featuring a par 70 Links Course.
My motto "Mi casa es tu casa" - "my house is your house" I use this property for myself, family and friends. Personally it has such a great feeling to it. There is something very special about living right on the beach and breathing in that fresh sea air everyday. I love the way the weather changes the surroundings of the water and beach and no matter what type of weather the view never gets boring. The house is to be enjoyed, please feel free to use all kitchen equipment and if cooking is not your thing there are some fantastic places to eat in Cruden Bay. The Kilmarnock Arms hotel - fantastic meals and friendly staff. The Golf club and its elevated position allows views right over the course and the beach with views of Slains castle perched eerliy on the cliffs Slains Castle sits high on the cliffs above the village and is easily accessed along one of the walking coastal paths that the area has to offer and is most definitely worth a look. If you enjoy walking the coastal paths continue on from the Castle heading North, you will find yourself in the Fishing Town of Peterhead, If you head along the South coastal path you will find yourself heading towards Newburgh. I have done both walks many times and each time it amazes me just how beautifully rugged our coastline is. In Novemeber 2015 Cruden Bay Golf club was presented with the Scottish Gold Tourism award for the Top Course in Scotland and is also rated 54th in the World. Also a few miles away is the new Trump International Golf Course The village has a little Local shop if you find yourself in need of some supplies, there is also a coffee shop and a postoffice.
Quaint and quiet little Harbour with amazing beach and world championship Golf course on the doorstep. Fantastic walking routes and also great beach for watersport enthusiasts
  • The Beach House at Cruden Bay is the ideal coastal retreat, whether you want to just chill and watch the waves or are looking for a more energetic weekend. The beaches are pristine and the views spectacular. We were there in the midst of storm Dennis but that only added to the experience. Nicola provided everything to make our weekend cosy and comfortable and even provided some lovely treats on arrival. The kitchen is well equipped if you want to stay in or you can eat out locally either in Cruden Bay or in nearby Peterhead or Ellon. I really don't want to give too high praise otherwise I might not be able to book in again!

    Elaine2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Cruden Bay was absolutely incredible. The lodge was immaculately clean and Nicola left some very thoughtful touches for us. The views are just incredible and perfect to sit in front of with a coffee and a good book! There are a few good walks in the area, including up to Slain Castle. We wish we could have stayed for longer! We will definitely be back in the future. Thank you for making our stay perfect Nicola.

    Matthew2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Three times lucky! We've just had another charmed stay at The Beach House in Cruden Bay. Every moment dusted with magic: cooking up a storm in the big, social kitchen, cliff walks to Slains Castle, pizza picnic on the deck, strolls along the surf, building castles in the sand, red wine and reading by the roaring fire, sea views framed by picture windows, sensational sunrises and sunsets. And the north sea wrapped around us. Once again, bliss at the beach house! xo PS. Nicola, thank you so much for all your thoughtful touches and little extras provided for us - and our little one. You are an amazing host and we really appreciate you sharing your beautiful home with us. Excited to visit again asap.

    Vicky2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice house located at the beach. Perfect to relax and to do some walks at the wonderful sandy beach. Very charming decoration and nice to relax in front of the fireplace. Highly recommended.

  • My husband spent 3 nights at Nicola’s beach side haven and I cannot express enough how special this place is. Not only is Nicola an amazing host and the space is perfectly designed and decorated, you’re also overlooking the most beautiful and peaceful beach I’ve ever had the pleasure of walking along. Its hard not to find yourself completely relaxed and in love with this home away from home. We hope to come back again.

The cabin is located at the bottom of our unique garden. Our property is special as we have created lots of eco friendly areas where we have reused many elements inculding the cabin itself. There is a private shower room and toilet less than 100m away as well as a small sun room to the side with cooking facilities. We have 2 Collies, 3 cats and 3 hens. Well behaved pets are welcomed.
A room in the garden is a small bright cabin with country charm and a separate cooking area, as well as a shower room / toilet a short walk through the garden.
  • A very unusual and interesting place to stay. The cabin is beautifully decorated in apple green with a very comfy bed. The garden is very imaginative using recycled materials to make ornaments which we found fascinating. The fresh eggs from the resident hens were lovely. Rachel’s family were very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend

  • Responded very quickly to my last minute booking. Spotlessly clean, cosy cabin in a lovely country garden. Kitchen attached and Rachel even provided milk, bread and eggs so I could make my own breakfast. Rachel's family were extremely friendly and helpful hosts and weren't at all phased by my 11.30pm check-in! Great value and would definitely stay again. Thanks Rachel!

  • This cottage is ideal for anyone doing a short stay in Cruden Bay and surrounding. We visited solely to partake in coastal walks in the area and the cottage was exactly what we needed. All amenities are available and Alan is an excellent host.

    Liam2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Alan is by far one of the best hosts I’ve ever had. He went above and beyond to come and meet me at the train station down in Aberdeen and took me to the store for groceries whenever I needed to re-stock as there aren’t any major grocery stores within walking distance of Cruden Bay. But the bus stop is really close if you want to head out of town for the day. The cottage itself is cute, stylish, and within walking distance of some beautiful spots. Namely the beach, New Slains Castle, and the Kilmarnock Arms where you can have a drink and a very nice dinner. There is also a fun art studio around the corner called Kelpie Studio if you’re looking for cool gifts to take home. Over all, I felt so at home in Alan’s cottage and would definitely stay here again. He’s a doll!

    Chynna2019-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding place. Well equipped in a quite location. I will be back soon. Thanks Alan.

    Graham2019-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful property. Clean, cozy and great value for money. The host was great and very helpful. The area is lovely wish I had time to explore the beach more!

    Alyson2018-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • It was very pleasant in the accommodation of Alan. It was all necessary and more available. Very clean and Alan was very helpful. Cruden Bay is a nice and quiet place.

    Simone2018-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I enjoyed our 3 nights at Alan's cottage while exploring the beach and hiking trails nearby. The cottage was easy to find using Google Maps and the post code that Alan provided and he met us personally for check-in. I appreciated how clean the cottage was and the kitchen had all the basic essentials. My husband liked the comfortable bed and wide selection of TV channels. The WiFi didn't seem to be working in the cottage while we were there, but was easily accessible by walking into the back garden. The kitchen has a microwave and stovetop, but no oven. Not a problem, of course, just FYI for your meal planning. I can definitely recommend this lovely AirBnb!

  • Justin’s place is next to the sea and you can hear the waves from the house. It was lovely and cosy and we had everything we needed. There is plenty of room with 3 bedrooms and a large bathroom. Access was easy and Justin answered queries very rapidly.

    Dawn2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect hideaway in a beautiful landscape! Everything you need is already there. Justin is super friendly helping out with recommendations if needed. Additionally there‘s a great Fish & Chips shop just around the corner!

    Henning2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Everything exactly as described with a fantastic view. The house is warm and cosy, perfect for families. We found it to be an ideal location to explore Aberdeenshire. Justin as a host has been more than welcoming and accommodating with quick responses when needed

    Kerry2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • A village in paradise! Host Justin was quick to respond and Host Maxine was lots of fun and took care of everything in the cottage. As other reviewers have commented, the chip shop has most fresh fish and the candy shop is disguised as the post office. Neither is to be missed. Lighthouse is right in front! Really cool place!

    Lisa2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great house for a family stay. It was clean and comfortable with everything you could need and the rooms were bright and a great size with comfortable beds. Justin is very quick at replying to any texts or messages and can sort out things such as TV, heating etc remotely if needed. The streetlight outside the main bedroom can be a bit bright so if you need total dark to sleep I recommend the top double bedroom. There's lots of parking on the surrounding roads as we found the gravel area a bit tight. It's lovely to wake up to the sea crashing on the rocks each morning and there's a good walk that goes around the lighthouse. There is a also fantastic chip shop round the corner that is a must visit if you stay here. Although we didn't visit it, there's also a soft play (Loupy Lou) in Boddam if the weather is really bad. Totally recommend the house, Justin is a great host!

    Natalie2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Justin’s place is charming, comfortable and clean. The views from the cottage are amazing. The weather during our stay was quite stormy but that made the views even more spectacular. Justin was there to welcome us and make sure we were settled in. The cottage had everything we needed and there were so many extra touches that made us feel at home. I would happily recommend Justin’s place and would love to visit again - hopefully in the sunshine.

    Anne2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Really welcoming accomodation. Home away from home, all we needed for a weekend. Had all the facilities we needed, stunning views of the coast. Can highly recommend the local chip shop.

    Clare2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The house is in a tiny village and has lovely views especially from two of the bedrooms. It is a great place to use as a base for day trips. Everything was bright, clean and worked and the house had a lovely beach family house feel. Glad we chose Boddam as a alternative to the typical tourist places...definitely a gem.

East Byreleask is a modern spacious cottage with ample parking. Set in a tranquil rural location it is comfortable and well equipped. It features large, south facing, floor to ceiling windows offering panoramic views over surrounding farmland. Although rural,it is close to local amenities and is only 10 miles from Donald Trump's golf resort. It offers an ideal base from which to explore Aberdeenshire.
  • I had a 6 night stay here for work. What a wonderful place to stay after a hard day at work. The bumpy track is the only minus side. Once in the place, it is top notch with loads of space and thoughtful touches. I will return when I am in the area again. Thanks Allan.

    Graham2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Second stay at Allan's place and we will be back again. Great location, great accommodations, easy check in. Cannot say enough good things about this place. We were a group of 4 golfers and Allan's place was ideal.

  • East Byreleask Cottage was beautiful, clean and spacious. All utilities that you need were available, the beds were comfortable and nice soft towels were provided. Our two young daughters were immediately at ease and enjoyed watching the birds, sheep and cows. The place has a stunning view across the surrounding fields.

    Irene2018-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • East Byreleask is a beautiful house at the end of a bumpy track with a peaceful location! The house itself has everything you need for self catering. The bathrooms ( especially the showers were excellent and the towels beautifully fluffy!) the beds were comfortable and the whole place was furnished to a high standard and beautifully clean. The property is not in Slains Crescent as advertised on Air Bnb it is outside Ellon but this was not a problem for us as we had transport and also used a really helpful local taxi firm Central taxis Ellon. Allan was helpful with directions and check in. He also extended the offer of help if we needed anything - this was not needed as everything went smoothly. All in all a lovely stay, thank you Allan.

    Eleanor2018-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant cottage that has the most amazing view of the Aberdeenshire countryside, perfect location for us who were visiting friends, great for brewdog and the seaside, 15min drive to see the seals at newburgh.

  • Allan's house is perfect! It is very well equipe, imaculate and the views are amazing. We totally felt at home and we are looking forward to returning soon.

  • Allan was a great host, he responds quickly to questions and gave us a tour of the house on our arrival. The house is absolutely brilliant; loads of space, superbly equipped (a family would love in the space quite easily for over a week and it would feel just like home!) and perfectly situated for the Aberdeenshire coast. It’s lovely waking up to the views each morning as well as taking them in at breakfast! We will definitely recommend staying here to our friends and family and I’m sure we’ll probably come back on our next trip to this part of the country!

    Michaela2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • My partner, two children aged 16 months and 9 weeks old and I came to Sycamore hall for a weekend break. The postcode gives an accurate location and was easy to find. On arrival we were greeted by the lovely Angie who showed us round the cottage and let us settle in we had passed comments that we had forgotten to go to the shop for milk and Angie brought some through so that we could enjoy a cup of tea after a long journey. The cottage was sparkling clean and there were brilliant amenities e.g. a baby bath, high chair and 2 cots for our children which was fantastic as it meant we could travel light! The following day we asked for some tips on where to go and how to get there and were given fantastic suggestions, all of which we visited and loved! We enjoyed it that much we stayed an extra night! Overall it was a fantastic weekend, Angie was a fantastic host and we look forward to visiting again! I would definitely recommend especially for those with young children❤️

If you also, like me, travel around the country and are looking for an overnight stay for 1-2 nights, then book without hesitation. Everything is beautiful here. Many thanks to Stephanie for her hospitality. The room was even better than I expected. Very good comfortable bed and fantastic-smelted bedclothes (it was the best part of my stay here). Beautiful old house, very big room, big, clean shared bathroom, big kitchen. Everything you need for a short-stay during your highlands journey!

  • Clean and comfortable accommodation and was exactly what I needed whilst working away from home. Would definitely recommend and stay again if I was in the area.

  • Great cottage in a rural location, everything was perfect for our family stay - we will definitely be back!

  • Jane's place is in a quiet setting, and is great for families to stay in as it has some open space outside for kids to play in. checking in was really easy as I contacted Jane beforehand to arrange it as we were going to arrive late in the evening, to which she was very accommodating. The farm tour is well worth doing if you have the time as it was interesting to learn about the different things that they do within the farm

  • Very cozy place. House very well equipped, spacious, comfortable and very clean. The very quiet environment, of great beauty and close to localities with all kinds of services. The hosts responded at all times and recommended places to visit and stores with good local products. House totally recommended. And delicious yogurts made by the hosts.

  • Just what we needed! I was looking for somewhere for a relaxing weekend with my daughters and this hit the spot. Really handy for exploring the local area (we loved the beaches) and Jane was a really helpful host - especially when I had to go back and look for my keys!

  • Jane has been more than fabulous with our family. We had an incredible stay, we were welcomed with fresh yogurt from the dairy, and a wonderful letter explaining all of the amenities and information on how to contact if we needed anything. Jane, you have an absolutely beautiful little cottage, and I hope that when I come to visit my brother again, I am able to stay with you again. Thank you for such an incredible experience.

This beautiful detached cottage will comfortably sleep 10 people. It’s a lovely retreat for couples, families or friends looking for a relaxing Scottish break. It’s also a perfect base for business trips with ample room for several colleagues to share. There's WiFi, BT Sports, 2 flat screen TVs, one in the main living room & another in the snug with Apple TV so guests can watch their own TV shows & films. We also have an extensive book collection and family board games.
There are 4 bedrooms and a family bathroom upstairs. Downstairs there’s a kitchen, two living rooms (the second living room has a high quality sofa bed which sleeps 2 people), dining room, conservatory (known as the snug), WC and a large family bathroom with a free standing bath (with plenty room for two people) plus a separate walk in shower.
Traditionally the name Cruden derived from the Gaelic 'Croch Dain' which translates to 'the killing of the Danes,' following a battle which took place in Cruden Bay in 1012 between the Scots and the Vikings. Cruden Bay is a beautiful, coastal village hidden in the depths of Aberdeenshire (although only 22 miles from Aberdeen city centre). It is within a 10 minute drive from Peterhead and Ellon, both of which provide all of the amenities you could require during your stay. If you are looking for an undiscovered area packed with impressive sights, wondrous walks, great golf and some really tasty food then Cruden Bay is the place to visit. Cruden Bay Golf Course Cruden Bay golf course is in the top 100 golf courses in the world. In November 2015, it won the Scottish Golf Tourism Award in the £50-£100 category for the best course in Scotland. This brings many tourists from all over the world to the course, particularly in the better weather. It isn't hard to see why the course earned this status. In addition to the main course, they also have the 9 hole 'St Olaf Course' which is very popular with visitors to the course. It sits in a beautiful area, directly beside the North Sea. This enables you to see some spectacular views whilst playing the game. You will be able to look out to sea over the beach. There are also certain parts of the Course which provide excellent views to New Slains Castle. Cruden Bay Beach There are many beaches in Aberdeenshire and some of them are really quite breath-taking. Cruden Bay beach sits directly next to Port Erroll Harbour. It is a massive stretch of completely unspoiled beach which is 2.5km in length. This makes it perfect for those enthusiastic 5k runners. Unlike Aberdeen beach, this beach is much quieter as it is in a small village and not so many people are aware of it. Ladies Bridge The beach is accessible via 'Ladies Bridge' which was originally erected in 1922 following a petition by the local ladies of village. You can see they were imaginative with their names. Ladies Bridge was replaced at a cost of £178,000 in 2015 as the 93 year old bridge was becoming a health and safety issue. It takes you over the water of Cruden to the award winning beach and sand dunes. Even with the tide in, you can still visit the beach without the worry of becoming stranded. When the tide is out, you are more likely to be successful in your hunt for treasure. The tide leaves behind a mass of sea life such as jelly fish and crabs. This is great for educating the little ones in your family. There is quite often driftwood left on the beach which is great for keeping your doggy friend entertained, just make sure your dog does not have a taste for jellyfish! If you are looking for a cardiovascular work-out or you have a dog that likes to get particularly messy then be sure to check out the sand dunes beside the beach. The dunes divide the beach and the golf course and provide some really impressive sight seeing. There is an abundance of dramatic castles in Aberdeenshire. When visiting Aberdeenshire, you can go on a castle trail which will take you round many of them. Slains Castle is a cliff castle as it sits directly on a cliff overlooking the North Sea. Out of all of the castles in Aberdeenshire, Slains Castle provides the most mystery. It is perfectly safe to walk round the ruins however you must take care when visiting a castle which sits on a cliff. New Slains Castle Slains Castle is actually known as New Slains Castle as there was a previous castle known as Old Slains Castle. Old Slains Castle was built in the 13th century and was given to Sir Gilbert Hay by Robert the Bruce to say thank you for his support against the English. However after Frances Hay led an unsuccessful rebellion against James V1, the castle was blown to bits. Unfortunately there is very little left to Old Slains Castle and Frances Hay was sent in to exile. When Hay returned from his unwanted holiday, he built a new Slains castle and this is the one that still stands on the cliffs at Cruden Bay. Draculas Castle Most haunted castles in Aberdeenshire have their own story to tell. New Slains Castle is no different. The famous Bram Stoker's Dracula takes much inspiration from New Slains Castle. Bram Stoker liked to visit Cruden Bay back in the 1890s and he is said to have taken his inspiration for the Dracula Story from the dramatic castle. He was often a guest at the Kilmarnock Arms Hotel. They have Bram Stokers signature on their signature book which is kept in their safe. They are known to show it to tourists upon request. I have seen Bram Stokers signature in person and it definitely sent shivers down my spine. The Dracula story is incredible but spooky nonetheless. The haunted tales do not end there however... There have been sightings of soldiers on horseback marching up to and around Slains Castle. There is no doubt that New Slains Castle holds a lot of mystery and hidden tales. WWII Bunkers Beside Port Erroll Harbour there is a wooden staircase which takes you to the cliffs. These cliffs lie between the sand dunes at the beach and New Slains Castle. As you walk along the cliffs, you will be able to take in the impressive sights of the rocky cliffs and the North Sea. There are remnants of WW2 bunkers which are completely accessible. Imagine the cold that these soldiers would have felt whilst working on these cliffs with full exposure of the North Sea winds. There are also ladders which lead down to what looks like a black hole, very similar to those in horror films. These actually lead down to the communication bunkers that the soldiers would have worked in. Is it any wonder that there have been ghost sightings here? Kilmarnock Arms The beauty of Cruden Bay is that everything is within walking distance. Even the non-golfer will be hungry after a day of exploring Cruden Bay. The Kilmarnock Arms is a traditional hotel in the village which is only a 5 minute walk from the beach. The hotel boasts a restaurant area, along with a lounge bar where you can also enjoy a meal. There is also a little bar next to the lounge which is perfect for enjoying a 'wee dram.' The earliest record of the Kilmarnock Arms hotel is in 1888 however they also have visitor signatures from 1893. Bram Stoker was a regular visitor to the Kilmarnock Arms hotel, his signature was recorded in 1894 and this is available to view upon request at the hotel. Their bistro style menu is perfect for tourists visiting the area, as the food is locally sourced and wonderfully cooked. Should there be an avid whisky drinker in your party, they will not disappoint as they also have an endless whisky menu. St. Olaf Hotel The St. Olaf Hotel provides wonderful, home cooked food at an extremely reasonable price. The St. Olaf Hotel is a family run hotel in the middle of Cruden Bay. The staff are very friendly and are more than willing to provide you with advice on the area. The Chicken Maryland is a favourite however there can be no complaints with any of the other options. The portions are huge therefore you get a lot for your money. Their desert menu is one of saints - Mint Aero or Malteaser cheesecake! Bullers of Buchan This is a fantastic area to visit if you are looking for breath-taking, impressive views. Bullers of Buchan is a vertical cliff edge with a collapsed sea cave. The sea cave makes for a lagoon like area in amongst the cliffs. Due to the hole in the cliff where the sea cave was, the waves can be quite wild. Please be very careful when visiting Bullers of Buchan as there is no fencing between the paths and the sharp drops. It would also be advised not to take dogs up here and to keep a very close eye on young children. The cliff face also attracts a wide variation of birds. If you visit at the right time, you can catch an amazing sight of the hundreds of puffins nesting. You will be able to watch them bring food back to their nests. They are very clumsy birds and watching them take off and land is really quite comical. The cliff edge also attracts other birds such as kittiwakes, guillemots and razorbills. Folk Club Cruden Bay is a little village steeped in history and beautiful sights, it is not famed for its night life. However the Kilmarnock Arms holds 'Folk Night' on the last Friday of every month. Should you be interested in folk music then this is the event for you. Most of the people who perform at Folk Night are not professionals but instead just locals to the area who take the chance to perform where they can. If you are a keen singer or even just like to attempt singing after a few whiskies then this is place for you. It can be quite haunting listening to the folk music whilst sitting in the same place where Bram Stoker may have imagined Dracula. Newburgh Beach, Newburgh Seals The Newburgh seals are more local than the locals. Newburgh is a little village only a 10 minute drive from Cruden Bay and it is also accessible by bus. Newburgh Beach is very well known in Aberdeenshire for its abundance of seals, known as the 'Newburgh Seals.' This really is a sight to behold. Should you walk right along the beach, you will see hundreds (and I mean hundreds) of seals lying on the beach. There is a stretch of water between you and the seals which makes it perfectly safe to go and see them. The Newburgh seals do act like they own the area and often play in the water which is lovely to watch. Please be aware that it is important to keep dogs on leads and out of the water. Should you be tired from visiting all of the tourist hotspots, you can always relax at the beach. Why not take a seat and just enjoy the sights? There is a lovely little library in Cruden Bay if you are looking to read up on the local history. Alternatively, as Aberdeen is the hub of North Sea Oil and Gas, there are often helicopters flying back and fore over the sea. This is perfect if you have children who you can spot the helicopters with. There are also boats which can be seen through-out the day. The North Link Ferry crosses to Orkney around 6 o'clock every evening therefore you can watch this from the beach. Local Amenities Cruden Bay is a little village but it still has everything you may need if you are visiting. There is a little shop near the beach which is open every day. The village also has a Post Office, Pharmacy and Doctors Surgery. Hopefully you will not need to visit the Doctors whilst you are here! There is also a little Chinese Takeaway named Umi. Nearby Boddam, has a lovely Fish & Chips Shop. Overall, the village really is a hidden gem in the North East of Scotland with some really great sights to explore. Be sure to stop in to Cruden Bay if you are visiting the area as you will not be disappointed.

  • Absolutely beautiful home - in a great location for us to visit Ratray Head Lighthouse.

  • The sophisticated style of the Trinity Boutique and the many coordinated details make the accommodation a highlight in the otherwise rather sober place of Peterhead. Yuliya greeted us as soon as possible in person and made sure we were comfortable. We highly recommend you and the Trinity Boutique.

  • My second time here and just as good as the first. Julianna was extremely helpful. I needed to checkout later than originally planned and Julianna was very accommodating. I then left all my toiletries behind which Julianna is keeping aside for me. 5 stars all round
