Our accommodation is located in a rural location on a ridge above Sandy Bay and Marahau. It is a 5 minutes drive to Abel Tasman National Park and the start of the world famous Abel Tasman Great Walk. Kaiteriteri with its world renowned golden sand beaches is 10 minutes away also has a cafe and restaurant.
Amazing sea, beach, bush and estuary views from sunrise to sunset from every window. The mountains to the west, Sandy Bay, Marahau and north out to the Abel Tasman National Park, the vistas are nothing short of stunning. Relax on your own private verandah with a glass of wine, coffee or breakfast while you look at the ebb and flow of the ever changing tides across the bay. Local bush walks, including to Split Apple Rock and beaches. Native bush setting with abundant birdlife. By night stunning southern hemisphere starry skies are clearly visible above with very low levels of light pollution and our rural location.
We are located on a ridge in a quiet neighbourhood adjoining native bush.
  • We had high expectations for Al and Cath's place based on the photos and reviews....and they were exceeded! The views are out of this world and the accomodation was extremely comfortable. We appreciated the extra touches that made us feel welcome and were delighted to meet Al and Cath who were both very hospitable.

    Mark2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • All and Cath were lovely hosts and very helpful. Their place is exactly as advertised with beautiful views and great amenities. I would highly recommend their place to anyone looking for accommodation near Abel Tasman NP.

    Pauline2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding in all aspects, incredible views all around, superclean and well equipped, car park right outside your doorstep. Nice comfy bed and very homely feel. Al and Cath are great hosts and lovely to chat to. Highly recommended!

    Gitti2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great place with amazing view. Thanks Al for the Split Apple beach directions - we had our best day there :)

    Sharon2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location with gorgeous views! The unit was very clean with all basic amenities. Al and Cath are great hosts and very helpful. Would highly recommend their Airbnb!

    Tishtar2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place to stay all home comforts & more with friendly hosts and the most fabulous views. We didn't want to leave.

    Mark2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What a find. A spectacular setting on the side of a hill overlooking Marahau at the gateway to Abel Tasman National Park. The view alone was worth the price of admission but the hospitality and little touches - tea, coffee and milk not to mention a Bluetooth speaker for our music made for a great experience. Be warned, though, it’s pretty remote. There is no mobile signal but the free WiFi more than compensates. You will definitely need a car and remember to do some grocery shopping in Motueka about 20 minutes drive away before you get here as facilities in and around the park are limited. The apartment itself was spotless, well appointed and very comfortable. It was also pretty good value for money so I would highly recommend Al and Cath’s lovely hideaway.

    David2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to stay. The hammock with the view alone makes it worth the stay. The accommodation is roomy and tidy. It is a well organized space. All the lights are labelled so you don’t have to try every light switch before you find the one you want. There are clear wifi and recycling instructions, even a fire blanket. As I said, really well organized. Side note, the foamer with the nespresso machine works really well! Al & Cath were really friendly, lovely hosts. We would highly recommend and would absolutely stay again.

  • A quiet space perfect for visits to Able Tasman park. The wood paneled rooms are charming.

    Linda2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location in the midst of the forest and close to the sea and the Abel T tramp. Beautiful place to stay.

    Mike2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ideal apartment for us as we visited Abel Tasman. Just a short drive to nearest town (Marahua) where we dined and booked our kayak trip. Jean-Francois was very welcoming with good local tips. Wish we could have stayed longer!

    Jerry2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A magical place, a lovely welcome, probably our best accommodation of our stay. You can go there with your eyes closed!

    Vincent2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Jean-Francois is a very great host. He responded quickly for all communications before the trip, was quick and easy with Check-In, his place is perfect.

    Christopher2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This apartment is amazing and if I could give it more than 5 stars I would! Jean-Francois was the perfect host. Prior to our arrival he ensured that we had all the information needed to find this hidden gem. On our arrival Jean-Francois met us and showed us where everything was including the best of all the amazing views. He had also left essential oils burning so the whole apartment smelt divine. The apartment itself was welcoming and comfortable with everything you could need in this idyllic setting.

    Millie2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is well equipped, beautifully clean and with a lovely garden and fabulous views. It is well situated for the lovely walks in Able Tasman and Jean-Francois is charming and very helpful with local information. The local shop is pretty basic so you need to arrive with provisions if you want to self cater. There is however a great restaurant and a good sandwich bar.

    Marahau, Tasman, New Zealand

Newly built, architect designed for guests to have complete privacy beside one of Tasman's most desirable beaches. Be one of the first to experience it.
Our unit is bright, modern and private from the rest of the home. The bed is a super king that can be split into 2 singles so let us know your requirements before arrival. We are close to beach and after a day of being outdoors doing water activities, walking or discovering the mountain bike park it is a welcoming relaxing retreat.
We have a store that provides basic supplies and three cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Marahau is the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park where you can go walking, kayaking or take a water taxi to explore the fabulous beaches. At Marahau there are safe swimming beaches, paddleboard hire, cockling and wonderful photo opportunities of our native birds. Marahau is a hidden gem that locals know only too well but is still a secret to a lot of tourists. So you get the true Kiwi experience. The famous Kaiteriteri Beach is 10 min drive where there is great swimming, cafes to soak up the holiday atmosphere and you also have access to the popular mountain bike park.
  • A great spot right by the sea. Beautiful location! Generous continental breakfast. 5 star

    Mark2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place! Such a great location in Marahau, near to the entrance of the national park. The place itself is great, very stylish and modern- our favourite of our trip so far!!!

    Nicki2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Faultless and great value, much more private than we had imagined and much better value than the Kite (in our opinion).

    Rich2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very modern. very clean accommodation, close to the beach and the cafe and shop, also the Marahau Water Taxi service, which we used to walk parts of the Abel Tasman track. The bed is large and comfortable and the induction element was great for cooking on. We enjoyed our stay here.

    Bruce2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • This apartment has exceeded our expectations. Fantastic area.

    Max2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful modern stay. Convenient location, though off the beaten track in a wonderful way (beautiful beach alongside the Abel Tasman National Park - access to tours for the park, or a drive to nearby treks). Amazing stargazing! Highly recommend this stay! We loved our time there, just wish we had more of it!

    Liz2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful part of the world and what a perfect unit in which to stay! This accommodation was very clean and was very well equipped! The breakfast provisions were also a bonus! Communication from Kay throughout the entire booking process was second to none! We would have no hesitation in recommending Kay’s place to fellow travellers!

Your hosts, Paul and Marieann, are retired teachers. We have lived in the area for more than thirty years and have lived and traveled extensively overseas. We understand travelers’ needs and will do our best to assist with anything to enhance your stay in this lovely area.
We have a swimming pool and spa that guests are welcome to use. The area is peaceful and quiet - except for the sound of bird song. There is a BBQ available for your use on your deck overlooking the garden.
Sandspit B&B is set in the Split Apple Rock sanctuary and is within easy walking distance of Split Apple Beach. We are a short five minutes drive to Kaiteriteri Beach and from Marahau the gateway to Abel Tasman National Park. The neighbourhood is quiet with stunning views and prolific bird song
  • This is a lovely place to stay. The apartment is spacious and light with stunning views over Marahau Bay. Paul and Marieann are perfect hosts – very happy for guests to share the pool and always taking great care to ensure we were comfortable and well looked after. If you have the opportunity to stay, take it.

    Martin & Andrea2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really good time at the beautiful place. The house with an amazing view, pool and whirlpool are perfect to relax. Everything was perfect. Thanks Marieann! :) We would definitely stay there again.

    Anna2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • OMG what a fantastic place, views are amazing. Arriving home after a long walk to be able to have a swim or hot tub was luxurious. Amenities are great, lots of thoughtful touches. I would not hesitate to book this accommodation.

    Beverly2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic view, really nice breakfast and some helpful, useful tips. Marieann and Paul were very approachable and happy to help.

    Emma2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay! The pool, spa and apartment were fab. The view was incredible and Paul and Marieann were amazing hosts. They even treated us to homemade biscuits and banana bread. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend that others do too.

    Cody2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Paul and Marieanne have a beautiful house in a stunning location and were the most amazing hosts. We found it difficult to leave our little bit of paradise staying here, whilst visiting Abel Tasman for three days. The accommodation has its own entrance through a beautiful garden and comprises a large, pleasant bedroom with breakfast making facilities ,not to mention home baked goodies and it’s own bathroom. The bedroom leads on to a comfortable sitting room with patio doors opening onto a deck area with tables and chairs next to a pool with the most stunning views of the beach area at Marahau. We never tired of watching the tides roll in and out, as the tractors pulling the water taxis trundled through the surf. There is also a hot tub with the same view! Stunning! Paul and Marieann are the most kind and welcoming hosts and seemed keen for us to enjoy all the area has to offer. They were most helpful when we asked for advice as to how to make the best out of our stay, suggesting places and things to do in the beautiful surrounding area. We were loathe to leave our little bit of heaven after staying for three nights. We would very definitely comment that our stay at Sandspit was certainly one of the highlights in our four week tour of New Zealand. You’ll be thrilled with this accommodation!

    Janis2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The views were gorgeous from this B&B, the accommodation and garden were both lovely. Hosts were delightful and very helpful with local information.

    Wendy2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Paul and Marieann were amazing hosts and the guest suite is spacious and clean. They provided us with fruit, yogurt, milk, and yogurt and the refreshed it after our first night. The location is perfect for hiking Abel Tasman. The water taxis are only a 9 minute drive away. The pool at the house was the perfect way to relax after a long hike and the views can’t be beat. Highly recommend this Airbnb to all!

  • We had a great visit to Abel Tasman and the surrounding area using this as our home base. It is a very special piece of paradise with an amazing view and a great place to stay!! We will definitely be back.

    Sue2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a perfect cottage in a quiet and scenic spot. Jean Francois is a gracious host and made great suggestions for activities in the area. We would be happy to stay again. Highly recommended! One caveat—the stairs to the loft are narrow and, although they were no problem for us, they could be for some guests. The loft is wonderful, with windows that allow great star gazing.

    Karen2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Super clean, v. charming, secluded and romantic - amazing view. Narrow staircase to upper floor, but man is the view - and breeze - worth it! Also, the beds and bedding are delicious - a soft cocoon of cotton. And Jean-Francois, the host, is wonderful, kind, and helpful. Highly recommend booking this location!

    Alexandra2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • If you are visiting Abel Tasman - look no further, this is the play to stay! The pictures don't do it justice. The house has a magnificent view, combined with a garden full of figs, passionfruit, grapes and lemons. Wonderful scents and atmosphere. Jean-Francois is super friendly and helpful, making our stay an even better experience. The cottage that we stayed in is very practically planned, cozy and have all amenities that you need. Perfect for a family of 4-6 people. We would gladly stay here again. It's a small paradise on it's own and you feel like you are staying in the beautiful Abel Tasman national park.

    Pauline2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location, on the doorstep to the National Park. Jean-Francois was so welcoming and keen to help make our stay as comfortable as possible. We really enjoyed eating out in the garden, with views out to the stunning water and beaches. The passion fruit and grapes straight of the vines were delicious!

    Laura2020-02-22T00:00:00Z

It’s in the absolute best location if you want to explore Abel Tasman National Park and is also around the corner from a great restaurant/bar. I honestly can’t recommend Pete’s place enough. • Cockle is a beautiful cottage. So clean, modern and well looked after. Pete provided us with everything we needed for breakfast plus fresh fruit and beers in the fridge. Just what you want after a long day hiking in Abel Tasman. Pete also gave us good tips on alternative places to visit as he knows the area well. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was super clean with lovely soft towels and a huge walk in shower.

  • What an amazing spot! I can’t say enough about Marahu and The Cockle. Probably the most well thought out, clean, well equipped Airbnb I’ve stayed at. The location is incredible, Pete’s hospitality included breakfast supplies, beers and flying the American flag. So happy we chose to stay!

A sunny and bright studio, this is a perfect spot to unwind and recharge. Overlooking our expansive backyard and onto Mt Campbell, wake up to birdsong. Very handy to town with it's cafes & restaurants. Part of the Great Taste Trail (local food, wine & craft beers) and en-route to the Abel Tasman & Kahurangi National Parks, there are golden sand beaches, all just minutes away. Stay & rest or use this as a base for the region's activities. For a “behind the scenes” peek Instagram @themainlanders
A lovely, sunny & snug studio. This would make for a great place to stop and rest or to use as a base while you make the most of all the exciting things that this region has to offer - from the bike and walking trails, to sky-diving, the beaches and of course, the national parks. You should be very comfortable on the double sized bed, with feather and down pillows. There are extra blankets as well, in case you should feel the cold. There is also a wall (panel) heater for your comfort. While there is no stove to cook, the microwave & fridge should be very handy. Help yourself to the bread & milk, as well as coffee, tea, hot chocolate, herbal teas, as well as spreads provided, for breakfast. The local restaurants and cafes are great and there are some menus handy to help you decide your next meal. WI-FI - There is a dedicated router in the studio to ensure you have fantastic speeds and unlimited usage (within reason!). The access codes etc are available in the room when you stay here.
A quiet, well established neighbourhood, very close to the main street and handy to the supermarket.
  • Very convenient, cosy accommodation in the heart of Motueka. Family are very welcoming and though the studio is close to the house they are very thoughtful in giving you privacy. Nice hill views.

Welcome to our Home, with river running next to Abel Tasman NP. The beach is 1km down the road. Bask on sun decks, with relaxing views of pond and gardens, accompanied by sounds of nature. Pick tea herbs to prepare in shared kitchen. Ours is a relaxed household with a cat. Enjoy stars and river-song from the nurturing hot outside bath in our unique bathroom, surrounded by greenery. Our compost toilet is earth-friendly and outside the house. Your double bedroom is private, with desk and chair.
We are alternative open-minded people with wonderful stories to share. We are also sensitive to your needs, should you prefer to just retreat. We sometimes have meals available for an added cost of $15 per meal, per person. Although you are also welcome to use the shared kitchen. Ours is a compost toilet that is outside the main building. Our bathroom is separate from the main building, and is outside with bath, shower and clothes washing amenities.
We are in a rural area, and Marahau is known for its friendly locals.
  • Vasumi welcomed us with open arms, it is a wonderful place very close to nature! The outside shower is a special experience and there's a beautiful river just 2 min walk!

  • Truly a special place. Amrita has a wonderful energy about him. Didn't have a chance to meet with vasumi but the ambience about the whole farm speaks for itself.

    Juan Pablo2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • This place is extraordinary! He is steeped in "Spirit". The "Big House" and the rainforest garden reflect the free spirit. The house is alive. People come and go. Western claims in terms of hygiene or comfort, you should leave behind. But everything is fine. For this you get fresh from the garden and healthy energy.

    Meike2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place to stay. Vasumi was super friendly and the place is beautiful quirky. I really loved having a bath outside under the stars. Beware that it's a little out of town if you're not driving there.

There is also an outside BBQ area and playing field.
The Riwaka Hotel accommodation features 8 rooms, ample parking space, an outdoor BBQ area, a large grassed area for sports and free wifi throughout the building.

  • Denis is a wonderful host with a rich history of the area having grown up there. His lovely home is set back just enough from the main road through town so that sunsets on his upper deck are especially peaceful, but a quick jaunt to hop on the main hiking trail or grab a bite to eat is just a short five minutes walk away. Our room was simple and very clean and met all of our needs. Never had a run in with anyone with the shared bathroom and the breakfast was very tasty. At night, the cicadas will hum you to sleep with a little wake up call from the local rooster.

    Stacy2020-01-24T00:00:00Z

Ours is a Christian family home, in which we enjoy hosting visitors. The room is a double room with shared bathroom facilities. Our home is close to the entrance of Motueka, to a local cafe, the hospital, the Catholic Church, and nature walks.
This room has a single bed and a king single bed. Children are welcome, however the house is not set up for curious toddlers.
We are located in prime distance to a local cafe (Toad Hall) as well as being very close to the maternity and geriatric hospital. The estuary walk is also very close.
  • Excellent, the hosts are so friendly, welcoming and easy going. Lovely place to spend a couple of nights after doing trekking and touring. Homemade bread, homemade plum jam, and good conversation. 25 mins drive to Abel Tasman. Nice pub and food 10 minutes walk away

  • This is such a peaceful and beautiful oasis yet so close to the Able Tasman National Park. The accommodation is nicely presented in an idyllic location with tasteful furnishings, flowers and a thoughtful breakfast. Surrounded by nature. Rae gave us great time.y advice on what to do, using Wilson’s for kayaking at split apple rock and an extended boat trip and walk from medlands beach the next day. Enjoyed eating at Kaiteriteri and marahua.

Two of the boundaries are shared with the Abel Tasman National Park. One is beachfront with the actual Great Walk Coastal track! You couldn't be closer! The other is along the foothills of the park, with beautiful valley views sweeping back from the campground. We have great native landscaping that attracts an array of native wildlife visiting The Barn from the park including weka, pukeko, tui, fantails, Morepork and some very sneaky (not so native) deer!

  • I enjoyed staying at the cabin there. The bed was comfortable & the room was nice. It was raining, so i was a bit lazy to walk to use the toilet, to wash the face, etc...but I know I cannot complain about that. Very close to the water taxi port. It would be a plus if there was a hair dryer. I wanted to wash my hair before entering the National Park but decided not to. Overall, great place to stay. Thank you!

    Ariel2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Tim and Dagmar's home was wonderful, we had a nice size room with an amazing balcony view over the inlet below. Tim and Dagmar were very welcoming and made us feel at home, their lovely dog Nina was very friendly too. There was fresh coffee, a variety of tea, bread and homemade honey available for breakfast in the morning. In terms of location it was perfect for us, we went kayaking and walking from the local village in the valley and then explored the top end of Abel Tasman the following day. Dagmar and Tim had loads of local tips on what to go and see and places to eat. We did pretty much everything they recommended and really enjoyed it all. Would definitely stay again if we are back in Abel Tasman. Would highly recommend

Gorgeous elevated location, amazing views & a huge variety of activities in the area including walking, kayaking, fishing, paddle boarding, cafes, crafts & markets. Our sea view chalet is just a 15-20 minute walk down to the Abel Tasman Park entrance.
The Location and Land: Marahau Retreat sits on 15 acres of land, much of it regenerating bush. It's a peaceful setting…abundant in nature, close to rivers and the sea with an amazing choice of activities and stunning places to visit in the area. A gorgeous location for those wanting retreat space and or a base for outings. Many of our visitors wish they had booked for longer! On the property is a mountain fed gully stream and the climate is lovely. Warm to hot in summer, winter is cold but stunning with few people, very quiet and quite special; spring and autumn are absolutely delightful and bursting with colour. The surrounding nature feels soft and lush but of course dryer in the hot season. Rain here is a truly wonderful experience. Set on a rise in Marahau Valley, Marahau Retreat is next to the Abel Tasman National Park. The park's entrance is an enjoyable 15 minute walk down the road and we have fabulous elevated views over the Park, Marahau beach front and river. Sunrise is spectacular! Moon and starry nights equally spectacular! The Energy: A major part of Marahau Retreat is the energy of the land itself which is peaceful yet vibrant…..all encompassing....healing...actually it feels quite timeless, a great zone to enter during your stay in this remarkable part of the world....sometimes it honestly feels like being in another time and place… Accommodation: Our Sea View Chalet is basic but chic with some of the best views in Marahau. It's a lovely walk down the road to the Abel Tasman Park entrance, beaches, water taxis, kayak operators, paddle boards, local store, cafes etc. The covered deck has elevated views over the ocean, Fisherman Island, Marahau River and Abel Tasman National Park. The Chalet is an old cottage which was moved onto the land by previous owners. Guests say it's super relaxing and they sleep well. Everything is rustic and casual but appealing with details like quality linens on the bed and eco friendly soap choices in the bathroom. You are surrounded by nature, so there are insects about (we don't use window screens), birdsong, amazing energy and gorgeous views. The Chalet has a deck and contains a separate bedroom with a queen size bed, a kitchen living area with basic cooking facilities, fridge, dining table and sofa with double sofa bed option for twin share or extra person bookings. Please note that if you want the 2nd bed made up then you will need to book for a "third person" which cost $30 extra per night. Bathroom is very simple with a shower, toilet, heated towel rail and vanity. Laundry machine washing facilities are in an old out house with a brick & sand floor- very basic room, in the kitchen you will find a small bottle of milk, teas, coffee, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar and our honey. Also there is a herb garden by the Chalet. Please note that the wifi is rural based and can be slow sometimes but generally we have no problem using it.
Marahau is in an extraordinary location right at the entrance to the Abel Tasman, New Zealand's most popular National Park. With stunning beaches and parks all around there are endless activities in the area and many within 10-75 minute's drive including walking, kayaking, paddle boarding, nature reserves, canyoning, caves, fishing, cycling, cafes, arts-crafts and wine trails, markets and beautiful natural scenery abounds! The vibe is relaxed, free and happy.
  • Anna's retreat is one of the best places we've stayed in. She was so accomadating when we brought along 2 extra guests, and made us feel extra welcome. Come and stay here if you're lucky enough to get a booking. Clare

  • Anna was a wonderful host. Her place was bucolic, tucked away in the hills in Marahau. It was very comfortable and we felt like we were living in the rain forest. We did not have a car. And while we enjoyed the 15-20 minute walk to the main road, it could pose a challenge for some people.

    Michael2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Anna was awesome, we had originally booked a place nearby that cancelled our booking without notifying us, we reached out to to Anna and she was able to clean and make the place all ready for us in an hour or so including some fresh cut flowers from her garden. Excellent host for sure.

    Bryan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • My two daughters and I throughly enjoyed our stay at the Marahau retreat!! The accommodations are amazing!! We stayed at six different properties during our 2 1/2 week holiday on the South Island and this was our favorite!! You have a very private and beautiful space. The grounds are unbelievable and Anna is a warm and kind host.

    Patti2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic place to stay. We would throughly recommend to anyone with a few days to stay, 1or 2 days is not enough to do the area justice. Read Anna’s notes on places to visit and things to do, they are spot on. The drive over Takaka hill to Golden Bay is worth it for visiting Wharariki Beach and Wainui. Abel Tasman is an amazing place...We stayed 5 nights and could have stayed longer. The retreat itself is perfect if you want to cook your own meals, or there are places to eat nearby if not ( we didn’t try any). It is cosy with amazing views and a lovely garden. Anna has gone the extra mile with little touches like flowers, home produced honey and wonderful toiletries. Many, many thanks Anna.

    Sally2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • A slice of paradise. Owners are blessed to own it, guests are blessed to have found it. Anna and Co. are very environmentally conscious; it is refreshing not to find a can of insecticide under the basin, right next to the soap and brushes. There is a price, you have to contend with some insects, but I prefer that to being in a house where they spray poison all over the kitchen counters. As you pull up to your parking spot you are greeted by imposing woodcarvings of Papa and Rangi, the Maori Mother Earth and Father Sky. Then your eyes wander to the Tasman Bay and the surrounding verdant hills. Am I in heaven you ask, yes you are.

    Elizabeth2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Marahau Retreat is a charming cottage in a beautiful and quiet location. It had all the facilities you could reasonably require and we received a warm welcome from our hostess.

    Peter2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Michael and I were blown away by the natural beauty that surrounds Anna's place. The house had everything we needed and was comfy, warm and welcoming. Anna was generous in sharing her local knowledge with us which we where very grateful for. Being close to Able Tasman National Park made it easy to enter the park and enjoy the walks on offer. We enjoyed going out on road trips discovering the local towns, beaches, cafes and treasures. Best of all was driving up the driveway back to the house where we found comfort in settling in for the night as the sun went down. We had a wonderfully magical time at Anna's place and highly rate and recommend any future travellers who have a love of nature to spend time at Marahau's Retreat.

Marahau - a magical place and the Southern gateway to the Abel Tasman. One of New Zealand's most beautiful National Parks and most certainly the most accessible park with beautiful beaches, incredible birdlife, rivers, forests & more! This area is known for its natural beauty, golden sandy beaches, friendly locals and great eateries - Park Cafe, Fat Tui & Hooked on Marahau! The area is also close to Kaiteriteri and surrounding beaches and the mountainbike park there. This is a great base to enjoy Tasman and Golden Bays, the Abel Tasman and Kahurangi National Parks as well as the perfect private retreat you'll be staying in in Marahau :-)
  • Very private, very quiet. Great place to de-stress!

    Ashley2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Kite is really nicely designed and decorated, and super private which we loved. The location is also great and very close to the start of the Abel Tasman track. The host leaves a list of suggestions around the area that are very helpful as well. I would definitely recommend staying here. Marahau is a cute town with some good food as well.

    Mira2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A complete gem of a place, the Kite is located on the pastoral wonderland of a little farm, tucked away in a valley bordering Abel Tasman park. It is beautifully and thoughtfully constructed, very private, and simply gorgeous. It also makes the perfect base from which to explore Abel Tasman. My husband and I ended our two-week NZ honeymoon here and couldn't have asked for a more lovely spot - we only wished we could have stayed longer.

    Elly2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The Kite is a beautifully styled self contained unit, perfect for exploring Abel Tasman. Holiday Nelson (the management team) provided clear, thorough details for check in and the local recommendations provided were incredibly helpful. The welcome treats were also lovely. Would highly recommend for a slice of luxury in Abel Tasman!

    Shasicca2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Kite was hands down the best Airbnb we’ve ever stayed in! It was an absolute delight and such a great location for a few days in Abel Tasman. It was super clean and peaceful. Brittany and Tim were wonderful hosts- I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway!

    Jeffrey2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • OH. MY. GOODNESS. What a beautiful place. The house itself is lovely and thoughtful, the bathtub is the greatest thing ever invented, we cooked every night in a comfortable kitchen, and best of all, we listened to nothing but nature the whole time. Birdsongs, cicadas, the breeze that runs between the two spacious doorways in the house...the abundant window space to look at the view from every room...a little slice of paradise. The landscaping is lovely, and you see some little mountains peeking out over the hammock. There is an unpaved but relatively well maintained road leading to the house from Marahau, but for the most part you are really secluded and feel as if you’re right in the park. If you love nature and want to get away from it all, this is the place for you. For us, it was pure magic.

    Sarah2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little home. Great for a getaway.

    Pranati2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The most amazing place just outside Abel Tasman National Park. Perfect location and spotlessly clean! We loved everything about this place inside and out. Stylish yet functional indoor space and a true oasis outdoors. Best parts were the outdoor bath tub and the swing. The place is situated on the hosts’ huge property and you are able to explore everything from the horses to the bamboo forest. The hosts also shared many local tips that went beyond the standard Lonely Planet itinerary.

The accommodation was spotless and very comfortable with lovey touches and the kitchen had everything you needed to make a home cooked meal. Short walk to everything in Marahau and very handy to be a 30 second walk to the water taxi terminal. We had an awesome stay and would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Marahau. :)

Just 400 metres from the Abel Tasman National Park entrance, restaurants, cafes, local beaches, water taxis and kayaking. The Lodge is the perfect base to explore it from. Park your car and walk to everything. Abel Tasman Lodge was ranked number 1 in NZ for service and number 2 overall small hotel in NZ.
Abel Tasman Village is a small township of a few hundred residents, swelling in spring when tourists and tourism workers descend on the area. Blessed with a warm and temperate climate, it has some of New Zealand’s highest sunshine hours. Even in winter the average temperature is just over 12C, and many winter days are calm and crystal clear. The golden sand beach is beautiful for swimming, a picnic, or just soaking up the sun. Along with a lovely beach, Abel Tasman Village can boast almost 30 businesses focused on providing activities and services for visitors to the village. The great thing is it still retains the feeling of a small seaside town, despite being the gateway to the National Park.
  • Super motel room with great hosts and shared kitchens! Thoughtful touches and extremely tidy. Appreciated the focus on protecting the environment. Would highly recommend this.

  • We had a fantastic stay. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The sounds of the birds in the morning were great, and we appreciated the cups, plates, silverware, and yoga mat in the room. The hosts were great and very helpful with deciding what to do in the Abel Tasman area. Would definitely recommend!

  • This place is awesome. I would recommend it for a holiday anytime. Great outlook and Scott puts a lot of energy into making you welcome

    Richard2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Scott has got one of the best properties in Marahau with chalets and open gardens that are right by the seaside drive! All activities and restaurants are also walkable distance from the property! One of the most wonderful touches to the property was the kitchen where guests could bring their own food or use whatever is available and cook themselves whatever they liked - this really made our breakfast quite easy!! Lastly Scott is an amazing person who helped us out with whatever we needed and always had a smile on! He gave us discount vouchers for fuel which were also quite useful! Thank you Scott for making Marahau so comfortable and memorable and I highly recommend a stay at this property as it is simply one of the best places to stay to explore Abel Tasman National Park!

    Navak2018-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • A great spot, with good rooms and amenities.

    Jonny2017-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, beautiful place. Scott and Jocelyn were excellent hosts. This is a lodge with 15 chalets, a shared kitchen, and a coin-op laundry. We stayed in Chalet 2, a beautifully appointed and decorated studio room with a bathroom from a spa magazine. The chalet had eco-friendly amenities, a small fridge, and supplies for morning tea and coffee. The large sliding glass door opened to a semi-private patio with a beautiful view. After a week of eating in restaurants, I really liked the shared kitchen where I could combine my supplies with previous guests’ leftovers for breakfast and lunch. Heads up on the two restaurants in town...both are fabulous, but ask Scott and Jose to make reservations in the morning for later than night. The restaurants fill up quickly!

  • Annemarie’s place reminded us of a Nordic cabin - it had a lovely smell of pine with a beautiful view from the mountains to the coast. It’s perfectly situated, just a 5 minute drive to the village where the entrance to Abel Tasman national park is. Annemarie is really lovely - very welcoming and gave us some useful tips and maps for our day trip to Abel Tasman. The house is over the road from the beach and close to all Marahau facilities including the National Park. You will have your own private entrance through a covered outside porch that has a couch and 2 chairs and is a lovely extra space to relax. Upstairs you have a bedroom, bathroom and living room.
Upstairs is a bedroom with a double bed and en-suite. Across from the bedroom is a sitting/dining room with a fridge, microwave, jug, toaster, coffee plunger, tea, coffee, sugar, plates, cutlery etc. Breakfast is not provided. This room has a pull out couch that can be used for a third guest. Both rooms are bright, sunny and have lovely views of the sea and towards the Abel Tasman National Park.
The house is over the road from the beach and is in the heart of Marahau village. It’s only a ten minute walk to the entrance to the Abel Tasman National Park. Nearby are several local operators who provide water taxi trips, Eco tours, kayaking, canyoning, horse trekking and archery. There are also two restaurant/bars and several takeaway choices. There are two supermarkets in Motueka and it is advisable to stop there on your way to Marahau and stock up on supplies as the shop here only sells basic items.
  • Great accommodation, well appointed, and wonderful hospitality!

  • I had a lovely stay in Ginny's house. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped with everything I needed. Having an sitting room to relax in seperate from the bedroom was nice, and a nice view from the windows. Everything was spotlessly clean and the bed very comfortable. Ginny herself was a wonderful host, very friendly and made me feel right at home. 100% would recommend.

    Alexandra2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Ginny’s place was in the perfect location for trips into Abel Tasman. Ginny was kind and helpful and the spacious room had lovely views to the sea.

    Laura2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice place with a lovely host. Great location for the Abel Tasman national park. The entrance is very nearby and the beach is just over the road. It's a few minutes walk to Hooked -a great cafe/restaurant which we went to several times 'cos it was so good. Ginny' place is also only a couple of minutes walk from the aqua taxis that transport you into the ark if you're not walking in. We plan to stay there again sometime.

  • Great location right near the entrance to Abel Tasman National Park and just across from the water. Ginny was very helpful.

    Robin2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Ginny’s place was absolutely lovely - couldn’t be located better to enjoy a trip into Abel Tasman and had a beautiful sea view as well! The suite had everything you could need during your stay. Ginny was also kind to let us check in earlier, so that we could make the most of our short 2 day stay (thank you!) Alfie, the sweetest dog neighbor, was the cherry on top :)

"The Chocolate Yurt" is a fully insulated 6m yurt with a skylight to gaze at the stars at night. A private retreat in the native bush with outdoor kitchen with cooking facilities and bath/shower, both with amazing views of the Motueka river valley and the Tasman Bay beyond.
Our yurt resides in an eco village in the Motueka river valley, 15 minutes from Motueka. The handcrafted wooden furniture gives it a warm, inviting atmosphere. A woodburner provides warmth for the winter months.
Our yurt is surrounded by native bush and often you wake up with the song of the bellbird and fall asleep with the sound of the morepork. Our neighbours are all happily living in this beautiful spot
  • Very nice place to stay and relax! Amazing views and also very eco friendly.

  • All we can say is WOW! The most amazing, peaceful and luxury place. Our favourite Air BnB ever, we highly recommend this place to anyone, we will be booking to come back again later on in the year. The outdoor shower was a highlight for us. If you need to have a break, this is the place to come with the birds chirping in the morning it can't get any better. Thanks so much again, Amy & Kane

  • We absolutely loved our mini getaway to the yurt. Everything has been built and is operated with love, care and thoughtfulness. It’s such a peaceful retreat and we’ll certainly be returning and are already recommending it to friends. Thank you to Tessa, Remko and family for the experience x

    Emily2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Words cannot express the uniqueness of the stay. It was perfect in every way and so much more than expected. Our hosts made the experience perfect. This will be a holiday we will remember for a very long time. Book with no reservation, you will love this yurt!

    George2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to relax and unwind. The views are fantastic and the yurt is cosy and comfortable. It was so good to enjoy such a basic yet enriching way of living, we would have liked to stay longer.

    Joyce2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Can not speak more highly of Tessa and Remkos yurt and our whole experience staying in such beautiful surroundings. The yurt is cozy and creates a sense of calm the moment you step in. The surroundings are stunning, go explore! We recommend you have the offered breakfast because its yummy and the perfect way to start the day. Tessas massage is a wonderful addition too. After weeks of chronic shoulder pain I floated out feeling not just physically better but mentally and emotionally positive. You will not regret staying in this special place and meeting these special people.

    Shane2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Brand new to the Yurtlife Experience and would love to do it all over again! The views were amazing and the baths were brilliant! As for the yurt itself it was warm the bed was amazing! Remko was a fabulous host and gave us a little tour when we arrived !

    Simon2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt is indescribably beautiful! We immediately felt at home and enjoyed every moment. The outdoor kitchen and shower have their very own charm. I have never showered with such a beautiful view! I can recommend the accommodation to anyone who is looking for peace and relaxation and wants to be in the middle of nature. A small Weka family also visited us from time to time

The room is completely self-contained with own bathroom, fridge and a private entrance. There is a bathtub for you relax and unwind after or prior to your Abel Tasman adventures! We provide light breakfast of cereal, milk, hot drinks and apples.
Marahau is very scenic, peaceful and serene even on days with less than perfect weather.
  • Really stunning location! It was amazing to watch the sunrise over the Marlborough Sounds from bed

    Torie2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • This was the most gorgeous place in Marahau! Located just steps away from the entrance to Abel Tasman with the most amazing view from the room of the ocean! We couldn’t get over how beautiful and comfortable our stay was! We loved the hammocks, patio table, and bath tub! Truly stunning place with lovely hosts!

    Caitlin2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place exceeded my expectations despite the wonderful reviews! It is a very generous sized room, a separate very spacious wardrobe/storage area and a huge bathroom, all spotlessly clean. The view is simply the best and sitting out on the veranda for breakfast and a glass of wine in the evening was very special. It is well equipped with plates knives forks etc if you want to bring back a takeaway or make sandwiches for picnic lunches. We stayed 4 nights and were very sorry to be moving on! Excellently placed near the start of the trail. I would definitely return.

    Anne2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very private space with outstanding views and thoughtful touches. We were made to feel very welcome and communication was easy and prompt. We would highly recommend this accommodation and host.

  • Outstanding view of the bay as advertised. Comfy king bed adjoining very tasteful ensuite with a bath overlooking the bay. Yummy muesli and milk in fridge. Wine glasses to watch the sun go down across the bay. Highly recommended.

  • We so enjoyed our stay at Abel Tasman. Jean-François was an excellent and responsive host. We were delighted by the loft - it reminded us of the cottage experience back home in Canada. The view is spectacular day & night. It’s actually kind of surreal. Hard to explain you just have to see it for yourself. Abel Tasman is a very special place - perfect for anyone who enjoys nature & being in a laidback community. H&M Ottawa, Canada

  • If you decided to go Marahau and visit Abel Tasman National Park, you're going for a treat staying at Jean-Francois' place. The loft is amazing: very ample, quiet and comfortable, with an unparalleled view. It doesn't get any better than that, truly. I traveled alone and stayed for two nights, the host was so generous as to pick me up and drop me off, something I couldn't be more grateful for, since I was carrying all my food! You'll receive really good advice from him as well, in terms of choosing your adventures. The space is sparkling clean, Jean-Francois is kind and thoughtful. He and his crew are in the details, so be ready for an amazing stay!

    Julia2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed at the loft. It was rather bohemian with amazing views. It is a great place to stay if you want to chill out. But not really doable without a car

    Gerda2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely accommodation in a gorgeous place. Jean-Francois was a helpful and charming host and we really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful part of the South Island

  • I’ve spent two nights at the very nice, historic hotel. It’s small and has a great touch of nostalgia. My room was big and clean and I had everything I needed. Everything was just like in a movie. I loved it

    Cigdem2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. We really liked our sunny room and yes, it’s a bit noisy during the day but it does get quiet at night, no worries. Would recommend it and would go again.

  • Very good value spot for the price. With well-equipped kitchen. Steve accommodated a very last minute check in which we were grateful for! There was some road noise as this room looks out over the main road. Not far from Abel Tasman!
