Garden View Lodge, a fully-equipped house, can sleep 7. Located across the street from the Garden of Eden, a National Historic Site, in Lucas, Grassroots Art Capital of KS, & is 8 miles north of Wilson Lake in central Kansas. Please note: charge per additional guests.
Garden View Lodge is located in Lucas, Kansas, directly across the street from the Garden of Eden art site. Story has it that it was built for a son of the Garden's creator, Samuel Perry Dinsmoor, in the 1920s. It may have been a kit house that was delivered on the railroad. It's a neat, clean, and cozy house that has been well preserved, with a small town feel. While it is in the town, it reminds us of visiting our grandparents' farmhouse. Fully equipped house located in Lucas, Kansas, Grassroots Art Capital of Kansas and one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas. For those of you traveling on I-70, Lucas is 18 miles North of the Wilson exit. Just 8 miles from Wilson Lake, it's a great location for swimming, boating, fishing and hunting trips. You will have full access to the house and plenty of privacy. You can see the Garden of Eden across the street as well as the Miller's Park sculptures, and you can walk downtown in three short blocks. It's a quiet setting. Besides being the Grassroots Art Capital of Kansas, Lucas is also one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas. There is a lot to see in this tiny town. You could spend a full day touring all of the sites. The Lodge is close to the Garden of Eden, Miller's Park sculptures, the World's Largest Collection of the World's Smallest Things, Grassroots Art Center, Deeble House and Rock Garden, Post Office, liquor store, hardware store, library with an internet hotspot, convenience store/gas station with bait shop, restaurants, and a first-run movie theatre. This is a small town and most everything is closed by 10 pm, so please keep this in mind if arriving late (like for meals or gas). A recently added attraction is Bowl Plaza, a very original and highly decorated take on public restrooms! You can walk to all of these locations. For those of you who are general aviation pilots, the Lucas airport, 38K, is 1485 MSL. Its asphalt 17-35 runway is 2940 x 50 feet with constant overnight lighting. You can taxi to the adjacent gas station for unleaded gas. (No av fuel available.) We now have DIRECTV and a DVD player. Feel free to bring your own videos, or the library has videos for checkout. There's a wireless hotspot at the library, just south of the intersection of Second and Main Street, and most smartphones receive good service in the area. Many guests rely on bringing their laptops or tablets for entertainment. We have lawn chairs and a Weber grill available if you'd like to use the yard. Best of all, this is a quiet setting where you can enjoy a night's rest.
The street is wide, providing ample parking space even for those of you towing trailers. You may also park in the driveway. There is a fine view of the Garden of Eden, and shops and stores are nearby.

Lazy Cedars, a fully-equipped cozy cottage, can sleep 6+. Close to the Garden of Eden, Grassroots Art Center & 20 miles from Wilson Lake. Hunting and other outdoor activities abound. We are truly off the grid. My place caters to couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families and furry friends. The house is designed with passive solar heat. The living room is the collector.
Is clean and comfortable cottage. Feeling lazy or engage in hunting this little cozy house is quiet and relaxing. Get unplugged from a hectic life stay with us. Laundry on sight and direct tv. Beds are made exactly perfect. I am teased about my OCD on beds. Fresh, crisp, hospital corners and clean.
Is very quite. Nature is close at hand. Deer play in the yard. Two creeks flow near the home. There is a large yard to play in. The cedar trees establish a micro gentle Kansas environment. Perfect for a family soccer or softball game or more sedate yard games.
  • Great place to stay! We will be coming back!

  • Nice, rustic, and comfy cabin in a beautiful location. Good place for a family getaway for weekend in a quiet town. We had a great time taking our dogs for a run around the farm fields and enjoying the outdoors. Joann was responsive and very helpful in getting the AC going and fans set up around the house before we arrived for our stay on a 105 deg summer day, which kept us comfortable during our stay.

Missile Silo Eco-Adventure, sleeping under the stars! We love the outdoors, & what better way to experience life in the Smoky Hills of Kansas than primitive camping at a former Missile Base. Here we are repurposing an abandoned Missile Base into a Eco-Adventure Resort & Spa. Learn about the first rockets that brought us to the Space-Age. You will be sleeping above a decommissioned Atlas F Missile Base, and all profits from your stay will be donated to the Ad Astra STEAM Institute.
We are currently doing construction on the underground Missile Base and spend our weekends working and camping with our dog Buddy. Your stay will help fund this unique project. The property is located in the Smoky Hills of Kansas near Lake Wilson, with everything from fishing, hiking, biking, kite-boarding and more nearby. You will have 24 acres to roam, with walking paths going around the property, and several campsites to choose from for privacy or views. We encourage leave-no-trace hammock camping, though if you prefer to bring your own tent, tipi, yurt, hammock or just a sleeping roll feel free. This is primitive camping so come prepared for an adventure. The Ad Astra S.T.E.A.M. Institute is a nonprofit focused on designing disaster resilience into the home. We are building the nonprofits headquarters inside of a decommissioned underground Atlas F Missile Base. Here you will get to learn about Space-Age technologies which will produce fresh food, clean air, pure water, consistent energy, as well as health/medical systems all designed into the home. The Atlas F Missile Base was built in the late '50's and early '60's, activated in 1961 and, after a short operational period, were decommissioned in 1965. These were the first of the "super hardened" missile silos, built to withstand a nearby Nuclear blast. These are some of the most hardened structures man has ever built. Construction costs (structure only) range from $12-18 million in 1960's dollars; in today's equivalent, that would be over $100 Million dollars! General Layout & Features Launch Control Center (LCC) The LCC is a smaller cylindrical underground chamber with two stories. It housed the launch control center and the barracks. It was connected to the Missile Silo with a 40' tunnel. Today, this is the area that holds promise for development into a home or other usable space. Missile Silo The missile silo is a huge structure with a 52' inside diameter and is approximately 180' deep. The silo has three blast doors leading from the LCC. To launch the missile, two overhead 90-ton doors would be opened hydraulically. Originally, there were seven floors built inside the silo. Today, most of the Atlas F silos have been salvaged leaving only the structural walls. One way the silos are now being developed is to rebuild some or all of the floors. Each level would have approximately 2,000 square feet.
The Wilson community promotes itself as the "Czech Capital of Kansas" due to the role of Czech immigrant settlers in its early history. It also has the largest Czech Egg in the World. We are located in the Wind Belt of America, and are surrounded by a 250 MW windfarm. Lake Wilson is a 9,000 acre Army Corps of Engineers Reservoir. It is listed as one of the largest and cleanest lakes in the State of Kansas. Do to the consistent winds this Lake is a gem for sailing and kite-boarding enthusiast. Next to the lake are Epic rated bike trails, a couple beaches, and over 8,000 acres of wilderness open for hiking and hunting.
  • The biggest attraction is obviously the decommissioned Atlas missile base. The tour of that is worth the money by itself. Besides that, the property offers a fantastic place for camping. There's hiking and biking trails on property. Even more outdoor adventure to be had if you make your way a few minutes north to Lake Wilson. I absolutely loved hearing both the history of the site as well as Matthew's future plans. He's not just trying to improve his business, but all of humanity in the process. I look forward to bringing my family and my Boy Scout troop back to this property.

    Tyler2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • You must stop here to camp. Absolutely incredible. First of all, if you’re traveling, it’s right off I-70 and super convenient. Not only is it a great camping space, but the site is the location of an old underground missile silo and is truly impressive and special. Matthew showed us all around and my mouth dropped at this incredible property. The hosts, Matthew and Leigh Ann were fantastic and made everything easy and relaxed for us. We got there kind of late and they set up a tent in case we wanted to use that one instead of taking the time to set up our own - we happily obliged. Again, incredible space, super easy location, and a memorable experience!

    Kyle2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was the best night of our 5 day road trip along I-70! The property is gorgeous, with winding paths mowed throughout and surrounded by a huge wind farm. Matthew was accommodating with our changing arrival time and helped us set up camp. We chose a spot protected by pine trees from the wind a bit and faced the door east so we could watch the sunrise from our sleeping bags. Matthew gave a fascinating tour of the missal silo and Leigh Ann cooked us an amazing dinner (for a reasonable extra cost) as we watched the sun set. Then we swapped stories at a campfire on top of the missal silo. Would absolutely recommend!!

    Kelly2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Matthew was a great host. This was a unique experience that I highly reccomend.

    Gavin2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • I didn’t camp there but did a tour with Matthew. It was super informative and fun. Hope your plan all works out!

    Bowen2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place to both camp and experience cold war history. Matthew's cooking was top notch if you're looking to be served. Beautiful Wilson Lake is nearby for an extension of activities as is the small Czech community of Wilson.

    John2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • We loved every aspect of this experience! And an experience it was! Matthew was absolutely amazing! We got held up in traffic and were going to be arriving after 10pm. When I told Matthew we were going to be late, he said that was not going to be a problem and he will even help us set up camp. When we arrived, Matthew and his dog Buddy were waiting for us with a big bond fire on top of the silo. He even gave us a tour of the inside the silo that night. This is a once in a lifetime experience and Matthew was a very hospitable host. We will definitely be back and cannot wait to see what Matthew is going to do with his property! Side note- I suggest taking a drive to Lake Wilson and The Garden of Eden in Lucus, KS. I am so glad Matthew suggested we check it out.

    Nicole2019-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • Scout Troop 86 loved staying at the Silo. Matthew was a great host for our 29 boys and 13 adults. He provided a history lesson and tour of the silo control center and described his vision for the future of the site. We had a beautiful sunset and an amazing starry night away from light pollution. Several boys are ready to go back.

We are just outside of the Russell city limits where you have an amazing view of the sunrise and sunset. At night the deck is a perfect spot for star gazing. This rustic cabin used to be a milk barn in the 40's and has been turned into a cozy and quiet little get away. We are about 20 minutes away from Wilson lake, 7 minutes away from Russell, an hour from Salina, and 30 minutes from Hays.
The cabin sits on a 5 acres not too far away from the highway but just far away enough to be peaceful. There is usually wheat, milo, or corn growing out in the field with lots of wild life around. We have phesants, deer, and turkey that frequently pass through the property.
  • This place is fantastic!!! It’s open yet cozy, and warm and inviting. The bed was so comfortable. All the amenities you need. Farmland for miles and beautiful starry skies above. I was warmly greeted by farm cats when I pulled up, which was very cute! Hosts are very responsive and kind. I’ve already recommended to others! I only wish I could have stayed longer!

    Shana2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you pass up this cabin, you are missing out. This place is amazing! Cozy and comfortable plus the bed is so comfortable you don’t want to get out of it in the morning. Spacious bathroom with a separate shower and tub, plus a half bath in the loft so you don’t have to navigate the stairs in the middle of the night. Covered parking is a plus especially if it’s raining. There are so many positives I can’t list them all. Communication was phenomenal. The hosts are on top of things from the moment you book. I highly recommend the Cozy Cabin!

  • Erin & Doug & the farm will restore your faith in humanity. No joke. I booked their place as a convenient stop between St. Louis and Denver, and am now trying to figure out how I can make it a destination all its own in the future! From the superb dark night sky (I couldn't see any other lights from the porch) to them showing me how they milk the cows to the curious-and-eager-to-be-scratched goats, I can't tell you what was best...this place and these people are amazing!

    Claire2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Erin's farm location is a gem, nestled in a lovely valley. If desired, there are hills to hike, a secluded farm road to walk along, or just hang around the farm and interact with the cats, dogs and farm animals. The farm fresh breakfast was very good, with toast, coffee and farm fresh eggs from some of the many chickens running free outside. We enjoyed the interactions with our hosts and hope to return next summer.

    Robert2019-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • An incredible couple, amazing conversation, wonderful farm! If you find yourself in Kansas, do yourself a favor and stop in with these two wonderful human expressions!

    Robert2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Erin’s farm was so lovely! We really enjoyed meeting the animals and hiking around the property. We’ll definitely visit again soon!

    Rachel2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • My son and I had an wonderful experience at Erin and Doug’s farm. The landscape is gorgeous, the accommodations clean and comfortable, the hosts were warm and welcoming, and my son was in awe of all of the animals! Thank you for a memorable stay!

    Katie2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Erin provides a lovely, comfortable guestroom and bath. Erin and her husband are great company! The welcome committee (Tika, Princess and Emmy, her precious dogs!) greets you when you arrive! We loved watching Emmy, her border collie, herd the goats! It's a great, quiet country getaway.

  • I love staying at the historic Midland railroad hotel. The town is so quaint and peaceful. And this time I had time to check out Wilson lake. We really enjoyed ourselves.

  • We stayed here overnight on a road trip through Kansas. The hotel is convenient from I-70 and has a lot of charm. Our room was cozy and clean, and we were right at the top of the stairs. If you are a light sleeper, I recommend bringing along earplugs and something to cover your eyes. It is an old hotel by a railroad track (part of the charm), so don't expect it to be quiet. My husband and I were both awakened by the 4:30am train which sounded like it was about to run us over. Despite the surprise awakening, we enjoyed watching it through our window. There is also a town-wide alarm that sounds at 7am. Breakfast had both hot and cold options and was ready early. It was a fun and comfortable stay!

  • Great place to break up the drudgery of Highway 70! The hotel is comfortable, clean, and unique!

  • If you’re looking for a great place to crash on the wide expanse that is I-70, set your sights on this little gem! Charming historic hotel nestled in a quaint KS farm community. We had driven from Leadville, CO and we’re pretty tired and hungry when got in to Wilson. We happy the tavern downstairs was still serving dinner, and we were elated when we were enjoying it. Delicious! And they serve some of my favorite local beers from KC (my hometown) and Lawrence. Overall, excellent place to stay for those who get weirded out by gross hotel chains off I-70. This place is squeaky clean. Highly recommend!

  • We loved our stay at this cool historic railroad hotel that has been beautifully restored. It's fun to walk around the sleepy downtown and look at the Czech egg sculptures and convenient for a visit to the outsider art in Lucas, Kansas.

    Lisa2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Surprising place to stay. We needed a place between CO and MO. So, a stop in Wilson was convenient. Building was built in the 1890's and they've added plumbing and electricity along with an elevator but the decor looks like original that has been kept up. If you are passing along I-70 and like unique little towns, this is a great place. Quaint little town to walk around and see the Czech eggs that decorate this village. Enjoy.
