Places to stay in Kinghorn
Restored attractive 2 storey c1900 cottage in the beautiful grounds of Historic Scotland listed Bendameer House. Tastefully decorated, well equipped, comfy beds and quality linen. Use of hot tub with amazing views across Firth of Forth to Edinburgh.
Comfortable, open and flexible space. Lots of outdoor space - huge garden with swings, hot tub, vegetables, hens etc. Decoration - whites with muted blues and beige. Comfortable and cosy with all familiar home comforts. Down-filled duvets, pillows and cushions (allergy sufferers please request alternative). Fire pit, barbecue and outdoor seating- logs provided. Please note that the bathroom is on the ground floor.
Easter Bendameer has stunning views, wonderful light and the sunshine is warm. (Yes, it IS warmer here, for some reason!). There is always shipping or sailing to watch on the water. The small hamlet of houses at Ninelums (also the name of the bus stop!) is approximately half way between Aberdour and Burntisland. The very local history is interesting with limestone mines and quarries being a source of employment and wealth in the past. There is still evidence of the tramway to the harbour which passed behind the cottage. Bendameer House itself was owned by the Ministry of Defence for approx 100 years and in the past hosted grand house and garden parties. After 6 years of use as a boarding house for a school, it has been slowly restored by the Stevens family since 2002. There are historic castles and churches in Aberdour and Burntisland. There are great walks to the Aberdour beaches, art galleries and super gift shops. Special mention goes to The Aberdour Bakery, McTaggarts Cafe and the wonderful deli and post office "Post and Pantry," all in Aberdour. For fish and chips, other takeaway food, a reasonable co-op and a super indoor swimming and wave pool with flumes, Burntisland is excellent.
  • Lovely cottage, with great views. In a lovely location, with a short walk along the coast to a nice sandy beach. I would definitely recommend this cottage.

  • Such a beautiful cottage with everything you need! The fife costal route is bang on the door step. The walk to the station on this route is only 20-30 mins. The train into Edinburgh was regular, £6 return and only 30 mins. The only trouble we had was getting back from the train station after a late dinner so make sure you pre book a taxi! Lovely get away from the city!

  • Incredible place with stunning views. Ali was a perfect host and we enjoyed every minute. Couldn’t recommend enough. Ali even put up banners and got balloons for a surprise for my boyfriend. Thank you Ali x

  • This cottage is situated in the most beautiful location facing the sea. The inside is equally amazing with great decor all round. And it’s very clean. It’s a sizeable family home which was perfect for myself, my wife and little one. Good sized bedrooms. Ali is a great host above all. She was very welcoming and willing to meet our requests in advance of our stay. She gave us very detailed information on how to get to the home. We used a combination of Google Maps and the instructions she gave us and we had no problem whatsoever finding it.

  • The Sealoft is a very spacious place, perfect for a family. The room can be subdivided and furniture moved around to suit. We loved the ambience of the artists’ studio/workshop next door. The views from just outside the building are fantastic, great for a walk by the sea. Liz is a very helpful and welcoming host!

    Jola2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Nice comfortable loft overlooking the sea

    Mélanie2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • The quaint aura of this studio and Elizabeth's hospitality are the most enjoyable aspects of staying here. A local friend of mine and myself are both photographers, and she allowed us to take several portraits within the space and as many environmental shots as we desired. She's open to conversation about her most recent projects and offers advice to those who have specific artistic pursuits. Even if you aren't an artist, the bedroom is vastly spacious, the main door isn't disruptive to enter and exit at late hours, transit is easy next to the Kinghorn station, the views of the coast are incredible, and the rain shower felt great. I had several pre-planned excursions during my stay and I wish I had planned less, purely to spend more time dwelling in the space and being present in such a nice environment. I would love to return!

    Jessica2019-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Stylish different accommodation. Fabulous location by sea, centre of town and by train station. Will return!

    Lyndsey2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Be prepared to be wowed by the stunning space that has been created - what a privilege to be able to stay there. It is very much a working building - Liz's home and studio space , and shared with the residents artists. It is therefore scattered with the equipment, materials, artefacts and useful clutter that go with such a building . This might not be to everyone's taste, but I loved it. The kitchen area is well equipped and in a corner of the studio - so inclined to be chilly if it is cold outside. The steps to bathroom and living room/bedroom and the flooring patterns give an insight into the original cinema use of the building and the original foyer is used for art storage. A door leads into the air bnb room - where the clean white space continues. Room layout is up to guests - it is a long rectangular room with panoramic windows looking into the studio. There are blinds on all the windows. There is an optional foldout dividing wall to separate living and sleeping areas or you can keep it open plan . The room is well heated (we stayed in icy November and the room was cosy) furniture and fittings are modern , and interesting designs. It's a completely unique space , verging on industrial and not for you if you want carpets and frilly sofas, but exciting to be part of . As an artist and a birder it suited us down to the ground . Sadly we could only stay for two nights but hope to return. The views across Firth of Forth are stunning . We walked the Fife coastal path to Kirkcaldy and came back on the bus and also visited the eco centre at Kinghorn Loch. We ate at the Ship Inn in Kinghorn one night (very good) and cooked for ourselves the other - there are also a couple of takeaways in the town . Can't wait to come back

  • Brilliantly set up for families; a home away from home. You start to miss it when you are leaving.

  • Very good value for money! The accomodation is at a very good location, fancy, with brand new furnitures and nice view to the sea. The check in and the check out was very flexible. Parking is absolutely easy, near to the entrance of the building. The rooms are spacious, and there is all the facilities you may need either in the kitchen or in the rooms. We were really satisfied with the tidyness also. Graham was availble when needed to ask anything. I would recommend this accomodation to anyone even for 6-7 persons is really comfortable.

  • A home from home. Anne and Bill are very warm and welcoming hosts. Great stay - very clean accommodation with everything you need. Nice location in Kirkcaldy. Anne gave us lots of tips on the local area which really helped us to find our way about. Would definitely stay again without hesitation.

  • This was a private room that was still listed even though I had filtered that out of the search. Air B&B is at fault for that. However, I loved our stay and our helpful and caring hosts! The location is excellent, and we had everything we needed there and more!

    Caleb2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Bill and Anne were by far the friendliest hosts I’ve ever met. Made me feel so welcome and at home from start to finish. They have a beautiful and immaculately clean home. The garden view is very pleasing also. My bed was unbelievably comfy complete with my own bathroom inc shower and tub. Little gifts like water and sweets were left in my room which was a nice touch. While I was working nights they went out for the day so not to wake me and even offered to wake me if I was sleeping late. I agreed to a complimentary hot breakfast before I left on my last day which was fantastic. I was also offered food most days. Really lovely couple and a great experience. Would definitely stay again. Highly recommended for such a reasonable price.

Fully modernized and recently upgraded one bedroom apartment in listed building overlooking Kinghorn Beach. High standard of fixtures and fittings. Custom furniture perfect for couple looking to spend relaxing few days in peaceful environment appreciating the rare charm of a Scottish seaside town
Ideal for a couple looking for a truly relaxing, magical beachside break. The apartment is extremely comfortable with views from bedroom and kitchen windows across to Edinburgh. Kinghorn is a truly unique town with a sense of place and a history that is well documented and equally well respected by local people. It retains the quality and charm of a Fife town, with an award winning butcher shop, excellent grocery store, village church, library and many charming community events. The Ship is an award-winning restaurant with excellent food and there are two local pubs, both worth a visit during your trip.
  • A wonderful stay in a clean and well presented flat. Modernised but still with some charm coming through from the old building. The views are superb (take binoculars) and the light is incredible, especially in the morning. Highly recommended with great communication between owner and manager!

  • We absolutely loved staying at Jo’s place. Suzanne is there locally to help with anything you may need, she even left us some milk for tea and some tea cakes when we got there. The surroundings are serene and exactly what we were looking for. The neighboring cities were easy to get to and gave us plenty to do. The coast line is amazing and beautiful and I would go back to Jo’s place any day!

    Joy2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • A very comfortable space with everything you need. Jo's place is so convenient. We used public transport with trains and buses nearby. Kinghorn has its own bakers, butchers and food store. A lovely spot. We did not want to leave.

Kinghorn Town Hall is a listed property with plenty of fascinating history. The apartment has a beautiful and spacious living area that has been traditionally styled. There are three bedrooms: first bedroom has a kingsize bed, second has two single beds, and third room has a king bed with an ensuite. We have provided all of the amenities required to have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The apartment is an ideal location for visiting Edinburgh and beyond or exploring the wonderful Fife Coast.
Kinghorn Town Hall is a beautiful self-catering apartment located in Kinghorn, The Kingdom of Fife. The apartment has a beautiful spacious open plan living/dining area with comfortable seating, Smart TV, DVD player, selection of books, DVDs and board games. The dining table seats 6 people, although there are a couple of extra seats if having guests visit. Just off the dining area, there is a separate fully equipped kitchen. This is a comfortable size if you are cooking or baking, and have all the equipment you should require. An inventory list is available in advance if you would like to double check. There are three bedrooms in the property. A twin room; with two single beds, Main Bedroom with a King-sized bed and third room also with a king-sized bed but also with an ensuite. Within the ensuite there is a shower, sink and toilet. The main bathroom is also located on the bedroom floor which has a sink, toilet and shower over a bath. The apartment is located on the first and second floor of the property. To access the apartment there are several stairs to reach the ground floor. The ground floor is previously the old jail, which is now one of the offices for Fife Historic Buildings Trust, although mainly unused, our team sometimes uses the meeting room also on the ground floor. There is a separate locked door to access the apartment within the ground floor hallway. Within the stairwell there is a singular toilet and sink. Up two flights of stairs there is the entrance into the living/dining room. If you continue up the stairs to the second floor, you will find the three bedrooms and family bathroom. The washing machine and tumble dryer are also on the second floor. From the second floor hallway to the kitchen, there is also a hidden spiral staircase that can be used. The apartment has been sympathetically restored, retaining many period features. The rooms are furnished in keeping with the history of the building, while providing all the modern amenities you would expect. The apartment is fantastic for families and friends to gather and relax, enjoying time together in the large main room or taking in some of the beautiful Fife Coast. Guests can access a small fully enclosed private garden, the access is located on North Overgate at the side of the property. There is a table and chairs in the garden as well as access to a small bbq in summer (coal not supplied). Built in the Tudor Gothic style, this impressive castellated stone structure enjoys glimpses out across the Firth of Forth. The Town Hall was constructed in 1826, replacing an earlier medieval building which was hit and seriously damaged by lightning. Part of the original building is thought to date back to the 12th century. Latterly it was used to provide the debating chamber, offices and prison cells for the Burgh Council. The new building was designed by the architect Thomas Hamilton (1784-1858) and was used for Council functions for almost 150 years but fell into disrepair in the 1980s. It was restored in 2009.
Kinghorn is a small town situated on the east coast in the Kingdom of Fife. The town benefits from a lovely quiet, sheltered beach only a few minutes’ walk from the apartment. At the other end of the town is Pettycur Bay - a long, wide stretch of golden sand which is excellent for walks and outdoor activities. Within the town there are several shops on the high street, which is again just a few minutes away. These include a baker, butcher, a Co-op supermarket, post office and chemist. There are also a number of pubs in Kinghorn. The Ship Inn opposite the Town Hall serves top quality food, and there is also a ‘cupcake café’ on the high street. The Harbour View, has a beautiful café/restaurant upstairs with beautiful views across the forth. Downstairs there is also a wonderful pub, serving various beers, gins and cocktails, they also have an area to sit outside and relax in the sun as you take in the fantastic view. From Pettycur Beach you can walk across to Burntisland when the tide is out. There are plenty of activities to entertain families, whatever the weather, with play parks, a loch and ecology centre, indoor leisure facilities, and Kirkcaldy museum and art gallery all close by. Travel: Kinghorn railway station is only a few minutes’ walk away and provides easy rail access to Edinburgh and to the north. Kinghorn is 24 miles from Edinburgh and easily reached by road. There are several car hire companies at Edinburgh airport. There is plenty of space for parking on the street outside Kinghorn Town Hall. Distances: The nearest town, Kirkcaldy is 4 miles away and can be reached by train, car or bus. Edinburgh - 24 miles St. Andrews - 20 miles Dundee - 35 miles Further Details: For larger supermarkets and a variety of shops you can visit Kirkcaldy or Dunfermline. The beautiful fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife such as Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, St Monans and Elie are easily reached by car, as are the historic towns of Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy. Kinghorn has its own railway station with a regular service that takes you across the famous Forth Bridge, straight into the heart of Edinburgh where you can visit the famous Castle, Edinburgh Zoo, Sir Walter Scott's Monument, the Scottish Parliament Buildings, the newly refurbished National Museum of Scotland or in the summer, take in a show at the famous Edinburgh Festival or military Tattoo. There is high-street and designer shopping on Princes Street and George Street, or you can enjoy the many bars, cafes and restaurants before returning by train to put your feet up in your ‘coastal retreat’! Kinghorn is a great base for exploring the many locations in Fife and beyond. If you are a fan of the drama series 'Outlander', some of the scenes have been filmed in Fife including at: Aberdour Castle, Falkland, Dysart Harbour and Balgonie Castle, which are only a short car journey away.
  • A special property and wonderful value. It is your own private 'manse' in coastal Fife, easy drives to other pretty towns along the coast, Edinburgh, Glasgow and your golfing or distillery visits. Our family stayed over Christmas 2019 and what a great house for the holidays. Beth and team had it decorated with a small tree, lights, garlands and Christmas treats when we arrived, such a nice touch! The living /dining area is just as spacious and comfortably elegant as the pictures look, great for relaxing in and family or even guest meals; a mini reunion. (Because of the size, it's better for a longer stay than just a day or two.) The description made it sound like stairs might be an issue -- there are flights up to the door as well as further up to the bedrooms, but the main staircase is quite wide, not an issue unless stairs are a problem for you. The ground floor holds town spaces, not occupied or much used so it's quiet and you have the building and the garden to yourself. Street parking is easy and the 'locals' were the possibly the friendliest pubs in Scotland! We've stayed in airbnbs all over Europe, Asia and the Americas and this one stands out. Beth was very responsive to anything we needed and all communications. Thanks for a great stay!

  • Beth’s place was absolutely stunning!! The building is beautiful and the history provided is fascinating. Traveling to and from the surrounding cities was very quick, cheap and easy and Kinghorn is adorable town full of sweet, helpful people! Checking in and out was a breeze. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone and everyone in the area!

  • Great place to stay. Very quirky and such a novel experience to stay in a mini castle. It was comfortable, warm and clean . The stairs were a bit of a problem for my elderly parents but didn’t spoil the stay. We definitely would stay again and recommend to friends.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the flat. It was charming, clean and perfect for our family of five. It was so nice to stay in Kinghorn and take the train into Edinburgh.

  • Great place to stay with wonderful history and super period features. Oak beams and the town hall clock in your bedroom! Amazing stone circular staircase straight from a castle. Very spacious with 3 bedrooms and three bathrooms. Great for a family get together? Only downside was a bit of traffic noise, as you are right on the main road through Kinghorn.

Contemporary, yet cosy; the ideal base to explore the beautiful Fife coast, with its award-winning beaches and world famous golf courses, and in easy reach of Edinburgh. Perfect for a relaxing or romantic break or a fun-filled adventure! Main door property in a quiet street with private offroad parking. It's just a few minutes walk to the beach, the play park, the fairground (summer months), the high street and a hotel serving good food, with a beer garden and play area is a short walk away.
Clean and modern, cosy and quiet. Homely and comfortable and in a great location for walking, driving to local attractions and taking a train to Edinburgh.
Burntisland is on the Fife coastal path between Edinburgh and St Andrews. There are lovely places to explore on foot or by bicycle, car, bus or train, all along this coast. There is also a huge selection of world renowned golf courses.
  • The flat is very comfortable with everything you need and in an ideal location with everywhere in easy reach.

  • A nice flat, very comfy, and in lovely quiet street. And it's in a great location for exploring Fife. A couple of minutes to the beach and there are local shops nearby. Good value for money too.

  • Lovely place to stay. Close to the beach and train but also to drive to surrounding areas and attractions. Great value for money and would highly recommend.

  • A lovely flat very well located in Burntisland for the local shops, train station, beach, leisure centre and park. The train station is brilliant for exploring the local area and gets you to Edinburgh in half an hour too. Sacha is a great host, very good at keeping in contact and provided a travel cot and highchair so our daughter could enjoy our holiday too. The surrounding area is beautiful too - in particular Silver Sands in Aberdour, a beautiful beach with a lovely restaurant next to it. Aberdour is beautiful with lovely cafes, coastal walks and a castle. The flat is well located to explore all that Fife has to offer.

Double room in a bright, clean & cosy flat in traditional Scottish seaside town - great for 1-4 people - 40 mins from Edinburgh by train - less than an hour to Edinburgh airport - beautiful sandy beaches and a sea view, plus nearby bens and lochs (hills and lakes in the Scots tongue) to visit in the surrounding countryside - all visitors (including kids and pets) welcome!
The room is bright & airy in summer - I've got really good big windows - I've double glazing and central heating also, so its nice and cosy in the colder months. Good electric shower & bath combo for all your washing needs. plus a washing machine for clothes.
Burntisland is a small town (about 6.000 people) so the neighbourhood is peaceful, with only basic shops and cafes. We have a sandy beach and a park 5 minutes walk from the flat. The local coastline has many beautiful beaches and a great view of Edinburgh and the Forth bridges, plus the inland of Fife has many hidden treasures!

It is spacious, has comfy beds and and is very well equipped. Brilliant views towards the sea from the master bedroom - great for watching sunrise! Mohammed2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay. I very much underestimated how cool everything would be and this place was an excellent location to be able to do all that we did. Went to St Andrews and really enjoyed everything there (went primarily to see the golf course but were very impressed with the entire city as well) and played golf at Kinghorn as well (an awesome course, very well kept great staff and a workout to walk!). Everyone was very friendly, Sharon gave us great local tips and was there to meet us as we arrived, and everyone was good about responding to questions that we had. Edinburgh was incredible to see and wish we would have had more time for that. Thanks again!

  • Barbara is the best host ever!! Her awesome hospitality is way beyond our expectations. We arrived her place really late with our young son after a long journey due to bad weather. All the restaurants were closed and we sure were hungry. Barbara provided plenty of food for us to get thru the evening and bfast!! I couldn’t thank her enough for her kindness. Communicate was great and prompt. Her house is lovely and super clean. The location is perfect!! Just 2 short blocks from the beach. Really short blocks. I highly recommended!

    Nova2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Book this accommodation now !!! Myself, my hubby and (almost) two year old had a wonderful week here in August. There is nothing Barbara hadn’t thought of! Such a homely air b n b, scrupulously clean and a real home from home to be honest. The toys and books provided for my daughter were a godsend and a really nice touch, as was the bucket and spade as we forgot to pack ours..! The location is also wonderful. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere but you have everything at your fingertips! You would not need to drive if you didn’t want to as the train station is a very short walk away. We loved being able to walk to Kinghorn beach and along the coastal path. Dolphins can be seen if you’re lucky..! The locals are super friendly and welcoming. The local Chinese is absolutely fantastic with very generous portions. We caught the train to Edinburgh for the Fringe and we drove to St Andrews which was a great day out. The botanical gardens are a must. We would love to return one day! Thanks so much Barbara.

  • Barbara is truly humble and kind-hearted person. Seascape is as apt as it gets and upto its name! We had an amazing stay here for 3 days. The colors in entire place are so carefully chosen. It gets more serene with sea just few footsteps away. Very calm place for relaxation. All the amenities are provided. I personally liked the local help and all events, maps, information about Scotland that Barbara had gathered and placed in there. I would recommend this place for anyone who is lookin for a calm place to retreat in remote from busy citylights. P.S. Loved toys provided by Barbara for my kid.

  • Seascape is a comfortable home from home. It is a few minutes walk to the lovely beach. It is a good place from which to explore the Fife coastline.

    Jennifer2019-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara’s flat is 5 min away from a small, beautiful beach and close to local shops and pubs. There is train station near by and we could travel to Edinburgh in 50 min or get to airport in direct line. The flat has good size and was very compfortable for our family of three including 18 months old baby. The flat is very well equipped with nice Christmas decoration. We have been provided with baby cot. There was bottle of Prosecco waiting for us on arrival and also lovely fudge. We met Barbara personally on few occasion as she was leaving near by, and made us always very welcome. Barbara was also very quick in answering massages . We will definitely come back when we back to Scotland for longer and recommend to anyone who want to escape from busy life.

You'll love my place because Bayview is located on the east coast of Fife with direct access onto Kinghorn Beach. The bay has a quaint fishing harbour and views across the forth to Inchkeith and onwards to Edinburgh. The small village centre has a few bars and shops. Train station is a few minutes walk with links to Edinburgh every hour (takes about 30mins across the Rail Bridge). My place is good for couples. It is located on the second floor of an old tenement. We do allow one well behaved dog.
Our home is the ultimate in comfort with the most amazing uninterrupted sea views from the large bay window in the lounge.
  • The flat is in a perfect location with wonderful views across the forth. The accommodation is spacious, immaculate, modern and comfortable. It has all the comforts of home that you need. We had a really lovely time here and would definitely recommend staying here.

  • We had a wonderful visit to the apartment. The views are beautiful, the apartment is a lovely place to stay, and Irene was a great host. She couldn’t have been more helpful and we felt very welcome. We’d love to go back to visit again.

    Jennifer2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely apartment, great views, peaceful, unfortunately never got to see the host. Irene did respond if we had any questions quickly,

    Donald2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The views are mesmerising and the flat is stylish, well equipped and although really close to transport- the train station- it feels less like you are far away from the crowd. I’d recommend highly.

  • What a wonderful flat in a prime location with an amazing view. The flat is immaculately presented with everything you need for your stay. The view from the lounge of the beach is fabulous and the double bed in the main bedroom is quite possibly the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in! Irene is a great host and communicated promptly giving clear instructions and I felt confident that she would have responded quickly had there been any issues. Would strongly recommend a stay here in Kinghorn as it’s a great, quiet, base for touring the East Neuk of Fife and it’s walking distance to the train station where you can easily do a day trip to Edinburgh or Glasgow.

    Sharon2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely flat view from living room is spectacular. Flat has all you need for a comfortable break.

    Christine2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay here, the place was super clean and more than we could of asked for. Very close to the station which was great considering we wanted to make day trips into Edinburgh during the fringe. Would definitely recommend whether you’re wanting to stay in Kinghorn or explore the surrounding areas!

    Caitlin2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • The flat is in a great location. It has a beautiful sea view from the main front window. We did see seals, but alas the dolphins remained elusive, alhough they had been seen during our time in Kinghorn. The flat is well furnished, with modern fittings, very comfortable, clean and bright. It is very convenient for catching the train (which we did into Edinburgh), as the station is within a 5 minute walk.

Caroline even drove us to the restaurant in the evening and picked us up again, because we had a strenuous hiking day behind us. We really felt very well. We recommend!

  • This is a beautiful little private space and was exactly what my boyfriend and I were looking for. There is a separate entrance (with your own key), fridge, toaster, kettle, microwave, seating area, bedroom and bathroom with a nice sized shower. The location was perfect as well, lovely view out of the sunroom down to the water and easy to get to by car or foot. I wasn't sure what to expect as this was my first time using AirBnB, but Caroline and her home were absolutely amazing. Very quick at responding before we arrived, and absolutely lovely during our stay - she honestly couldn't have done anything more for us to make the stay better - thank you!

Bright, sunny apartment directly on the seafront in beautiful Kinghorn. Just 3 minutes walk from the train station and 35 minutes by train from Edinburgh, this is a delightful, relaxing retreat with access to the city still on hand. This is our second home and we have decided to open it up to airbnb. It has lots of home comforts including cosy beds, a comfy lounge with smart TV, fast wifi, large American Fridge, ice dispenser, microwave, washer dryer. Towels, bedding and essentials included.
This apartment is on the second floor of a seafront building constructed in 1850. There is parking in residents spaces to the front of the building and a free public car park 50m behind the building. In the event of ice, snow or stormy conditions always park in the public car park behind as the road to the side of the house is steep and the sea can come over the wall at the front in stormy conditions . When it is not booked, this is our weekend retreat and we use it as often as we can. It has lots of nice things in it and we will be putting more in as time goes by. The American style fridge has a ice and water dispenser and the flat comes also with a washer dryer. Help yourselves to the items in our larder, all the basic cooking ingredients are there. The living room has a smart TV and sound box. We also have Amazon Fire TV. We have fast wifi and the code is pinned to the noticeboard in the kitchen. We supply bathroom towels, soap, shampoo and shower gel.
Kinghorn is just completely idyllic. You can hear the waves crashing on the beach outside. The seafront is always busy with neighbours and walkers. We are on the Fife Coastal Path, which stretches all the way around the ancient Kingdom. We are 3 minutes walk from Kinghorn Station with trains to Edinburgh every 30 minutes. The journey takes 35 minutes. The Kinghorn Chip Shop is at the top of the hill 3 mins walk from the flat - amazing fresh fish and chips. The Ship Pub in is also in the village 5 mins walk away - renowned for great food for miles around. There is a co-op in the village to supply all the essentials. Walking along the seafront there is a small shop (The wee shoppe) which puts tables and chairs out on nice days and sells teas and ice creams. Going further along past the lifeboat house and up the cliffside path to the top you will find the Carousel - by day a cafe and gift shop with amazing sandwiches and cakes and a very reasonable and friendly pub with pool table by night. Panoramic views and a really nice place just to sit, eat, drink and spend a bit of time. The neighbours are incredibly friendly and helpful. The shared garden is immaculate. The nearest town is Kirkcaldy. The nearest ATM is at Morrisons Supermarket in Kirkcaldy. Turn right at the lights as you enter the town and you will see it on the right.
  • Beautiful location with everything on hand in the amazing apartment of Dan and Alex's! Super clean with everything you need and right beside transport links and stunning natural beauty. ... what more could you ask for... thank you so much!

    Michael2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We found this flat to be just as described. It’s comfortable, quaint and soothing. The views are fantastic and you really do hear the waves as you fall asleep, as someone has already mentioned. Everything you could need is in the flat. Ie microwave , washing machine, fridge/freezer, hair drier. Great widescreen tv too. There is a local Co-op nearby which is pretty well stocked and a nice pub just up the hill. The locals, including neighbours, are very friendly. We were quite sorry to leave.

  • If you are looking for somewhere quiet that is right by a beach, this is the place for you! The apartment overlooks the beach and the Firth of Forth, and the views are stunning. The beach is just metres away, and it is lovely, with lots of rock pools to poke about in when the tide is out. It is a great location if you enjoy watching wildlife! We watched gannets and terns diving while we ate our breakfast! We also saw oyster catcher, curlew, redshank, cormorants, eider duck and goosander. Dolphins are seen here regularly, and occasionally whales (though we didn't see any!). We did walk along the coast and saw lots of seals. The hosts provide binoculars, which is thoughtful! The beach is great for kids, and there are more beaches nearby. There is a really good playground just a few hundred metres up the road from the apartment. The apartment itself is really nice, with lots of thoughtful touches. The hosts, Dan and Alex, are very helpful and friendly. We had a lovely time. I would recommend it!

  • The place was lovely and clean. We really enjoyed the beach - fantastic location! Also an easy train trip to Edinburgh. Questions were quickly answered and everything was uncomplicated and comfortable.

  • Dan and Alex's place was perfect for us as we needed some quiet time and having the views right out to the beach was fantastic. The apartment has everything you need for a very comfortable stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks staying there. Kinghorn is a real gem of a place, it's small and quiet and quaint. The people are really friendly and we will miss the neighbours and having the beach on our doorstep. Dan and Alex are great communicators and whilst we didn't get to meet them personally, they were always checking in with us to make sure everything was ok.

  • Incredible host and place. She helped us and gave us trips on all our stay and saved us the last day, on January 1st where everything was closed. She has two very friendly cats, and a great place close to a market. The place is very clean and its beautifully decorated and she added a nice welcoming basket. We recommend it, and would stay here again.

  • We stayed at this flat for a couple of nights. Great location, flat is clean and tidy and all basic stuffs needed for everyday use are there.Great communication as well. Renata asked us if we need extra bed for our wee girl. The heating wasn’t working when we came ( we don’t know how to operate it😬😛) and Renata’s husband came to check the boiler and got it working. Highly recommended.

Our lovely flat is located in a listed building on Aberdour's Main Street. There is a 5 minute walk to the station and the village centre's pubs and shops, 5 minutes to the Fife Coastal Path and 10 minutes to the beach and harbour. Edinburgh City Centre is 30 minutes by train (airport 45 minutes). We have off street parking and are next door to a corner shop. The flat has free WiFi . There is a wood burning stove in the living room and the flat has been recently decorated in neutral tones.
You enter the flat through a small hallway, which has some hanging space for coats and bags. The living room has a lovely comfortable 'L' shaped sofa and armchair . There is a West Elm coffee table which has a section that you can raise up to act as a desk. You can use the wood burning stove, internet television and Amazon Alexa. There are some board games and books that guests are welcome to use. We will leave a log for the burner so you can get a fire started. You can buy more logs at the garden centre in Dalgety Bay or the petrol station at Dalgety Bay. The bedroom has a double bed with Indian Cotton bedding. There is cupboard with drawers and shelves. There is no wardrobe hanging space but there are some hooks over the bedroom door with 6 hangers. There is a full length mirror and a hairdryer. The kitchen is a small kitchen with an electric hob, oven, washer/dryer and fridge freezer. The kitchen is equipped with everything you should need to cook a meal. There is a small table and 2 fold away chairs in the kitchen. We do not have a dishwasher. There is coffee and tea in the cupboard. There are also some basic provisions in the cupboard which you are welcome to use. The bathroom has a shower, sink and toilet . There is a mirror and shaving plug. Towels will be provided. The flat is accessible via the rear of the building and there is a flight of 6 stone steps to the front door from the car park. There is a wrought iron banister, but this might not be suitable for people with mobility issues.
Aberdour is a lovely community, there are golf, tennis , bowling and sailing clubs in the village . The Silver Sands Beach is award winning and has life guards during peak season. There is a cafe on the Silver Sands that is open for breakfast and lunch - the view is stunning. Aberdour is well positioned to access lots of beautiful walks including the Fife Coastal Path. There is information about some of the walks and an OS Map in the flat. The village has a good real ale pub the 'Foresters Arms' and 2 hotels, The 'Aberdour Hotel' and the 'Woodside' - both do good food. There is a fish restaurant, 'Room with a View' down near the harbour. You can visit 'McTaggarts Cafe' in the village and the village deli and bakers. The flat is next door to the 'Purple Shop' - you can buy Dalachy Farm meat and fresh rolls at the shop. It also sells newspapers, wine/beer and general provisions. Aberdour has it's own castle and the 13th Century St Fillans Church.
  • Warm, cosy flat in a great location. The beach and coastal trail walks are minutes away. We had a great few nights away and would return.

  • Julia is an amazing host, very responsive to enquiries and very friendly. The flat was absolutely perfect, very clean and in an ideal location..I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

    Chris2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely flat with great character. We had a nice weekend away and with the completely horrible weather it was lovely to come back and light a fire!

    Carrianne2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The flat was beautiful and spacious with a well-stocked kitchen and a lovely fire place. We were not there much as it mostly served as a crash pad for a new year's holiday, but it was very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. Just a note for those who look for these things, the bed was quite a hard mattress. I would not presume to make this a negative in the review, but I wanted to mention it for those that it matters for.

    Abigail2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great cosy flat with everything you need, we would return!

    J2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Julia’s place is fantastic and just the job for accommodating the oldiwonks when they are visiting. It has everything you need and is handy for all the local amenities like the shop, beach and train station. Private parking is a definite plus!

    Paul2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • The description and photos of Julia’s flat are accurate, so the space was as I imagined. Absolutely no disappointments. The little touches were great - breakfast products, honesty fridge and toiletries. Plenty of soft towels. The wood burning stove was great, especially for the cold evenings. Being there in December was not the best to appreciate either the flat or the surrounding area, although we did manage to get a walk in on the 2nd day. The flat was ideally placed in the village, for the station, places to eat and other local facilities. Great for the Fife Coastal Path.

I have an eco conscious approach to modern living and would ask my guests to respect this. Generally this property is in a central location for getting to Edinburgh/Glasgow or Dundee.

Oh.. I do like to be beside the seaside! If there were Michelin stars for sea views and waking up (or going to sleep!) to the sound of rolling waves, enjoying the breath-taking sunrise across the water on a window seat with a view, then this is the perfect place for you!
A beautiful, cosy and peaceful ex-fisherman’s cottage which has been lovingly transformed over the past year, ideally suited for a range of special occasions. Whether you’re planning an event-packed family holiday, a romantic getaway for two, a recuperation or writer’s retreat, a business stop-off to recharge one’s batteries or perhaps a fishing weekend where you partake in a spot of shore fishing at Dysart Harbour for some brown (sea) trout , cod or maybe even a flounder or two then look no further .. ‘Ruby by the Sea’ cottage offers it all!
A period dated cottage dating back to 1850's with incredible period features inside and tastefully decorated with a fireplace set in the lovely village of Dysart with buildings dating back as old as 1600's. A short walk to the Dysart Harbourmaster café for a light lunch while soaking up the beautiful scenery of the harbour followed by a gentle stroll along the Ravenscraig Park and Castle makes a perfect and fulfilling day!
  • If you are looking for a home from home with everything you need to make your stay comfortable, this is the perfect place. Myself and my dog Lucy spent 7 weeks here and absolutely loved the cottage, Dysart and Ravenscraig Park. Just so much to explore and great if you have a dog to walk. Wonderful sunrises from the cottage and lots of interesting shipping anchored in the Forth. If you need a bike for your stay, get in touch with Greener Kirkcaldy as they loan bikes out for free. Enjoy!

  • “Ruby By The Sea” cottage is a little gem. Situated a short walk from the Fife Coastal Path in the peaceful village of Dysart, it is a walkers paradise. Arrival and entry into the cottage is a breeze and what a surprise you get when you open the front door and climb the stairs. Quite amazing. The cottage is spotlessly clean and tidy, the kitchen is well stocked with everything we needed and, as a personal touch, the Christmas decorations were up and the Christmas tree lit. A very nice touch indeed. A warm comfy cottage, our stay was most enjoyable and would definitely return.

    Denis2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Nice wee cottage close to the sea in Dysart with on street parking that was always available across our three day stay. Spotlessly clean with some nice homely touches, would definitely recommend.

Large private room in Semi-Detached Victoria Villa that myself and husband live in. We situated on a main road through Kirkcaldy. We are about an 8 minute walk from the local rail station where trains to Edinburgh, Leuchars - for St Andrews, Dundee,Aberdeen and London can be caught. Right outside the express bus stops for Edinburgh and St Andrews. There is a lazy old cat in the house who sleeps most of the day and goes out on her travels at night.
Large Victorian house built in the 1880's and still has the original features of the age. Kirkcaldy was a flourishing town and there are large period properties in the area. We are 10 minutes walk to the Prom and Fife coastal path. 20 minutes will take you to 2 large lovely parks. One of which was an Outlander film location of Dysart harbour, other locations are not far by car or train. Open fire in the living room which is very welcome in the colder dreich days and happy for guests to sit with us.
In central Kirkcaldy, short walk from Town Centre and it's Shops, Pubs and Restaurants. Within walking distance the local prom and beach. Local Outlander film locations nearby on foot and by transport as well a local historic sites. Fife coastal path is easy to get to by walking and numerous cycle paths.

  • Lovely self contained flat. Many lovely touches such as a welcome basket and the folder of information that is in the flat is very helpful.

  • A very nice and cosy place that will make you feel like home really quickly ! Alistair has been a thoughtful and well organised host. A perfect place for short holiday !

    Célia2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • A very enjoyable stay. Alistair has thought of everything you might need. Ideally situated for public transport. Bus stop at top of road taking you to Edinburgh or into Kirkcaldy for train station. Flat highly recommendable.

    Andrew2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Alistair's place as part of a week long mini tour of Scotland to visit National Trust & Scottish Heritage sites. It's well located for many sites and we visited Kellie Castle, Hill of Travit Mansion & Falkland Palace all in one day. We went to Edinburgh on the train from Kirkcaldy, about 40 minutes ride as well so Alistair's place is brilliantly located for many sites. The accomodation it's self is excellent! Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and feels much more spacious than the photos would have you believe. Lots of nice touches with a welcoming hamper of food & drink awaiting us upon arrival. Easy access and brilliant communication before, during and after our stay. The area was very quiet during our stay making for very peaceful night's sleep. All in all a great Air BnB experience. Highly recommended. Thank you Alistair 👍

  • Really nice hostel! The hostel itself is very clean and above all the host is really friendly and friendly! He answers every trivial question sincerely, and he talks to the WhatsApp app and he answers quickly. It takes some time to walk to the station, but you asked me if you could drive me. I rested well!

  • comfortable bed lovely facilities with a very pleasant host.

  • Lovely house with a very warm and friendly welcome. Excellent host with fast responses and excellent communication.

  • The stay at Izzy's home was very pleasant. In addition to comfortable accommodation, the most welcome was the warm welcome of Izzy, a nice and kind woman. The house has everything you need to spend a pleasant stay, and the small relaxation area with sauna is the icing on the cake..The bedroom is small but the mattress of the bed is super! Kirkcaldy is a really nice and romantic town, a walk along the beach leads to the ruins of a castle on the sea. The city of Edinburgh instead can be reached in about 35 minutes by train at a cost of around 8 euros. Another positive note is the Morrisons supermarket, which is only a few minutes from the house and where you can shop at reasonable prices. That said, my fiancee and I recommend this accommodation solution, and we thank dear Izzy for the hospitality again.

    Valeria2019-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Izzy is the nicest host I met. We had only a one night stay but we had time to enjoy the amazing sauna. Thank you for everything :)

Beachfront property sitting directly on the Fife Coastal Path and adjoining a family home. Self-catering kitchen with breakfast items supplied. Originally the space was the town Bath House but was converted into guest rooms several years ago, with a private entrance and patio garden. Perfect for walkers, tourists and families.
Accessibility information: Unfortunately, this room is not suitable for wheelchairs users. **Sensory overload** Noise - You will have a private front door and exclusive access to the area. The house is set back from the road and so traffic noise is not an issue. However, please be aware of the noise concerns below: * The train line runs directly behind the house and you can hear the trains passing by every ten minutes or so during the day. * There is a hotel/pub behind the property. It's very rare we are troubled by noise from there, but it does happen two or three times a year. * The house adjoins a private home and there may be a small amount of noise from TV, music, and voices, especially young children. * The footpath to the front of the house is used by many dogs in the area. * The patio garden directly adjoins the family veranda, with no barrier. There may be children playing on the veranda. Light - The windows in the bedrooms have curtains, but these are not blackout blinds. ***If you have any questions at all about accessibility (or anything else!), just call or email us - whatever you find easiest.***
Burntisland is a lovely coastal town, a 40 minute train ride from the centre of Edinburgh and around an hour's drive from St Andrews and Dundee. In the summer (May-August), we're known for the Burntisland fair, which attracts people from all over the country. The rest of the year is very quiet, with lots of opportunities for walking and cycling, and there's an active wild swimming community in the town.
  • I would recommend this place to anyone who wants some nice relaxing stay it is beautiful and it's right on the beach

    Richard2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic beach location. My dog & pup were made very welcome, which helped me relax while on our roadtrip. I would like to come back & holiday in Fufe

    Louise2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beachhouse is a lovely spot right on the beach of Burntisland and Lizzie is a very nice host. The room and the kitchen are very tidy and pretty and the view is really beautiful. The only thing I had to get used to is the sound of the trains which pass directly behind the house. But after a short while I didn't feel disturbed by it. A lovely place to stay, I can recommend it.

Sunny, peaceful flat with views to the sea and Edinburgh. In a conservation building in the heart of Aberdour village - 5 mins walk to award-winning beach and 2 mins to station - 30 mins to centre Edinburgh; 45 mins to Edinburgh airport by bus/train. Superfast broadband (WiFi). Free parking close by.
The flat is very peaceful and sunny with a pleasant outlook over mature gardens and out to sea, and the Edinburgh skyline. It is on the top floor of an old building from the 18th c. and is easily accessed from the main door on the High Street. NB there is a flight of stone stairs leading to the flat so this may not be suitable for people with mobility problems. The bedroom is small but cozy and has a Velux window, chest of drawers and walk-in wardrobe/cupboard, with storage for luggage, clothes etc. There is a small hallway, leading to an open plan sitting room and kitchen. The kitchen has a washing machine and fridge freezer and an electric hob cooker and oven, microwave oven, as well as a range of self-catering equipment. NB there is no dishwasher. The sitting room has a writing desk overlooking the gardens, towards the sea. There is a small two seater sofa and a leather club chair, bookcase with various board games and local information, coffee table and a small (24 inches) Samsung Smart HD TV (Amazon Prime etc) and a DVD player. I keep my own collection of DVDs in the flat which guests are welcome to borrow. (I also keep a spare set of golf clubs for guests to use- Aberdour golf club is a high quality 18 hole parkland course and the first tee is five minutes walk from the flat.) Hot water is provided by a traditional boiler in a cupboard off the sitting room, though there is an electric shower (instant). The bathroom has a small bath, with an over bath shower. NB the bathroom suite is a bit dated aesthetically (see photos). There is quite a large garden, most of which is shared, including a drying green (clothes line and pegs). There is ample space to leave bikes securely either in the garden or in the passage way. Parking - there is a large, overnight public car park at the station which is about 100 metres from the flat. You can also often find spaces on the street immediately outside the flat.
I lived in Aberdour full time, when I commuted into Edinburgh. I now visit it for breaks. It is a beautiful and historic village, with a special atmosphere. What I love most are the many walks, along the coast and up in the surrounding hills and woods. There are two outstanding beaches and an old mediaeval harbour, as well as a (mostly) ruined Renaissance castle in the centre of the village (used as a TV and film location, including Outlander!) There are excellent local amenities, including a village post office and delicatessen in the same building, a pharmacy immediately opposite, several small shops and a bakery and coffee shop/delicatessen. There are four pubs/hotel bars, which also serve food and there is an excellent fish restaurant close to the harbour (‘A Room With a View’). There are tennis courts and a well-maintained 18 hole parkland golf course about 5 minutes walk from the flat. As well as the beaches, there is a large park with a very high quality play park for children, about 100 metres away. It is very convenient to use as a base for exploring Fife, Edinburgh or further afield, with excellent transport links (the train station is two minutes walk).

  • Lovely little flat with great views and a central location within an idilic wee village

    Marc2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Sam's place is very cosy and clean, with a beautiful view from the desk in the living room out to the sea. The kitchen is well-stocked with anything you might need for cooking, and Sam provided things like towels and shower gel as well. I spent four nights there on a self-imposed writing retreat for my PhD thesis and found it a very productive and relaxing environment — & plenty warm enough in January as long as I popped the electric fireplace/stove on every now & again. Location is perfect for beach walks / exploring the town / exploring the rest of Fife. Highly recommend the fancy deli/post office under the flat and the bakery just along the road as well.

  • It was a wonderful night in Sandy's house. You can have a happy movie time for there are comfortable sofa and plenty of movie discs. One to improve is that the marked scales of oven were ambiguous which will cause some confusions. Just several minutes' drive to a beautiful seaside---KY1 2QG.

  • Had a good stay. Comfy bed. Very clean. Heating worked well. Had pretty much everything I needed and location was quiet and perfect for my needs. My only two minor gripes were that I couldn't use the oven as the numbers were worn out and not visible and it would have been good to have live TV but I had a fire stick. There is chromecast though.
