Private room in Cotswold stone house in quiet cul- de-sac. Double bed, tv, tea and coffee facilities in room. Parking. On the Cotswold Way.
Three storey Cotswold stone house built in 1734. The guests' room is on the first floor and has double bed, TV and tea/coffee making facilities and their private bathroom is on the floor above. So two flights of stairs.
The house is in a quiet cul de sac with views out the front of Selsley Common which is National Trust land where the cows have priority. Walk up to the top and you can see right across the valley to the River Severn and the Forest of Dean beyond. There are plenty of local walks through ancient beechwoods and the Cotswold Way is just a hop, skip and a jump away. The village is a short walk down the hill where there is a pub, coffee shop, hairdressers, post office and corner shop. There is an award-winning pub up the hill which is highly recommended and has great views across the valley. a short walk from the pub on to the common and you can see right across the River Severn and the chance of a good stunning sunset. This place is ideally situated for walkers on the Cotswold Way or for holiday makers touring the Cotswolds.
  • Gill's house is very cozy, warm and clean, and makes you feel at home. Tea, coffee and an electric kettle are provided in the room, and you can also nibble some biscuits when you feel peckish. You will be impressed with her hospitality. I think very friendly and beautiful dog would heal the fatigue of visitors. You will be absorbed in taking pictures of the wonderful scenery around the house. I would revisit during the warm months! *Sometimes, Google map doesn't show the correct place so before visiting, I recommend asking her about the correct place.

  • Situated beautifully near the cotswold paths Gill’s home is a wonderful example of a traditional country stone cottage. Gill was the perfect host, and Lottie made for an affectionate four-legged co-host. Nothing was too much for Gill and she had some great recommendations for the area. I felt welcomed, looked after and at home. And the best bit; I slept like a log! (which I find hard to do away from my own bed!) The room was clean, well-presented and had plentiful amenities for my stay. The private bathroom was stunning with both shower and bath, and was a sheer luxury to have during my stay. I would thoroughly recommend Gill’s home and will definitely stay again when I’m in the area! Thank you Gill!

  • A lovely room and bathroom in a peaceful location. Gill is a superb host and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

  • We were fascinated to learn that Gill's home was a pub years ago. It is a beautiful building, very characteristic of the area, and quite a privilege to stay in it. Gill is very welcoming, and we enjoyed our stay there. Lottie the dog is very friendly too!

  • What a charming cottage and so spacious, too! Very well appointed. Cosy and comfortable . Gill is the perfect host. I wanted for nothing. Would definitely recommend and return.

  • Only a few steps from Cotswold Way (although don't trust Google maps! It will take past and up the hill) A really comfortable bedroom, lots of room and a welcoming bathroom with bath. Sunday means nowhere to eat so bring provisions. Breakfast was great, and Gill kindly set everything out for me so I could make an early start. An old house with character, I loved it.

    Eliza2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely room in a lovely house with one of the most welcoming hosts we've encountered. Gill was fantastic and the room was exactly as described with everything we needed for a comfortable stay whilst visiting family. Would highly recommend to anyone needing to stay in the area!

  • Gill is a wonderful host - we spent a great weekend in her lovely home in the heart of the cotswolds, and meeting Lottie (the bestest of doggos) was an added bonus! Recommended :)

Welcome to Little Culver, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Little Culver is a stunning and unique Cotswold stone property, built in 1821. The cottage forms the right hand half of a beautiful castellated Grade II listed building, Culver Cottage. Originally an almshouse, it was built by David Ricardo of Gatcombe Park, and its distinctive architectural style is reflected by its reference in Pevsner's Architectural Guide for the Cotswolds. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!
Little Culver is located in the heart of the village of Minchinhampton. An ornate arched doorway on the street opens into a lobby, which is shared with the neighbouring property. Little Culver’s front door opens from the lobby into the living room. The following rooms are on the ground floor: Living room: A beautiful, spacious room, adorned with antique maps and artwork, which has a stunning Gothic window with a window seat, and a Cotswold stone fireplace with a wood burning stove. There are two leather sofas, plus a bench seat, and a SMART TV with a freesat box and a DVD player; Kitchen/dining room: A stylish, contemporary room that overlooks the back garden. The well presented kitchen has a range cooker with a five ring gas hob and two electric ovens, two under counter fridges (one with a freezer compartment), a dishwasher, toaster, kettle and cafetiere. The large dining table has seating for six, and there is also a pew bench underneath a lovely Gothic window. Floor-to-ceiling cupboards provide larder space, as well as storage for coats and shoes; Utility room: Accessed from the garden, this useful space contains a washing machine, tumble dryer and microwave, as well as a toilet and wash basin. Stairs lead up from the ground floor to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms: Master bedroom: A characterful room, with a wooden floor and a Gothic window overlooking the garden, which contains a double bed, chest of drawers and a freestanding wardrobe; Bedroom 2: Another lovely room, again with a wooden floor and a Gothic window, as well as a decorative exposed stone alcove. There are two single beds, a chest of drawers, and a white Eames chair; Bedroom 3: A charming room, which contains a single day bed, bedside table, desk and chair; Family bathroom: Contains a bath with overhead shower, toilet and wash basin. A door from the kitchen leads out to a patio and a large, enclosed courtyard garden, which catches the late afternoon sun. There is a table with seating for six, as well as a chiminea and a charcoal barbecue. Free on street parking is available a short walk away in the village.
Minchinhampton is a very attractive, thriving hilltop town, situated on a tongue of high land between the Golden Valley and the Nailsworth Valley, 1.5 miles north east of Nailsworth. The town also sits on the eastern fringes of Minchinhampton Common, high above the valleys that were once prosperous with the production of cloth. The centre of Minchinhampton is a picture-postcard image of what people expect of a small Cotswold town, with a selection of nice shops and places to eat. The town is centred on its High Street and old Market Square, the main feature of which is the late 17th century Market House, supported on stone columns. The interesting Holy Trinity Church dates from the 12th century and has a truncated spire looking over the Market Square. The church was given to Caen's Abbaye aux Dames by William the Conqueror and then in 1415 passed to Syon Abbey, in whose hands it remained until the Dissolution. Minchinhampton Common is a large area of open grassland with spectacular views over the Stroud and Nailsworth valleys. The area is owned by National Trust and is an important archaeological landscape, with prehistoric field systems, burial mounds and the remains of a defensive earthwork, known as The Bulwarks. In the summer the Commons are grazed by local commoners' cattle. The area covers 635 acres and is renowned for its colourful array of wild flowers and butterflies. Food & Drink For a small market town, Minchinhampton is fortunate to be blessed with a number of good places to eat and drink: The Crown Inn (https://www.thecrown-minchinhampton.com/): Roaring fires, a restaurant serving up locally inspired flavours, and a cellar stocked full of craft ales, fine wines, and fizz - when it comes to Cotswold country pubs, The Crown Inn is the perfect place to meet, eat, and make great memories. The Ragged Cot (www.theraggedcot.co.uk): Perched high on the Cotswolds outside the ancient market town of Minchinhampton sits the Ragged Cot, a country inn getaway created for serious pleasure seekers. Born of a 17th century coaching house inn set beside six hundred acres of National Trust common land the Ragged Cot is a pretty special place with an intriguing history of highwaymen and pilferage. The proprietors of the Ragged Cot take pride in their professional approach to food and service, with the seasonal menu offering great British food sourced from local farmers and even their own vegetable garden. With dishes such as seared ox tongue with pickled red cabbage, pheasant with braised leeks and artichoke puree or just simply ham, eggs with triple cooked chips you will always find a dish to fit; The Kitchen (www.thekitchenminchinhampton.co.uk): Choose a seat by the beautiful bay window and watch for riders trotting by on horseback or perhaps the occasional herd of cows strolling down from the Common. Serving delicious breakfasts, morning and afternoon teas, and lunches, all the locally sourced food is prepared fresh daily; The Old Lodge, Minchinhampton Common (www.food-club.com/old-lodge.htm): The Old Lodge is beautifully located in the centre of Minchinhampton Common. With unrivalled views of the Cotswolds, this 400 year old hunting lodge is the perfect place to escape the rush. Enjoy quality, locally sourced food served in the restaurant, the bar area, one of the smaller dining rooms or al fresco in the spacious garden. The stunning restaurant accommodates parties of up to 85 people seated and has floor to ceiling windows that look directly onto Minchinhampton Common. Minchinhampton also has an excellent butcher's shop and an organic cheese shop: L Taylor & Sons (www.taylorsminchinhampton.com): For nearly a century L Taylor and Sons has been supplying the highest quality meat to discerning customers. The quality of the shop has been recognised with a Cotswold Life Butcher of the year award; Woefuldane Organic Dairy (www.woefuldanedairy.co.uk): All the products are made by hand in the farm dairy in time honoured ways. The unpasteurised cheeses change throughout the seasons as the milk varies depending on what the cows are eating.
  • Great period property in a superb location. Well equipped and attractively decorated. Parking easy and close by.

  • Great location, right in the centre of the village. Had a great stay and would love to go back one day. Sad to have to leave at the end of the holiday.

  • Had a lovely stay in Little Culver. All was as advertised - plenty of space for 5 people, very comfortable and stylish. Loved the original features of the house. Thoughtful touches like chocolates and biscuits on arrival were appreciated and the key safe made our arrival stress-free as travelling from London. Would definitely stay again if travelling to the Cotswolds.

  • Gorgeous cottage! Lovely combination of classic country style and modern decor. Perfect amount of space for 5 adults and the surrounding villages are delightful. Would definitely return. Thanks!

  • Beautiful place in the Cotswolds. Very charming, and spacious enough for our family of 5. We would definitely go back.

  • The perfect pad to explore the Cotswolds, set in a cute little village. Loved the treats and the garden was so beautiful to sit in and enjoy the rest of the British summer.

    Leo2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful house In the quiet quintessential English village of Minchinhampton. We rocked up with 5 people and found there to be plenty of room for everyone. The Garden was well kept and a really chilled out place to hangout in the sunshine. No negative comments here! The one thing I would say is to bring cash with you because many of the local establishments don’t take cards.

Welcome to Butterrow Gate, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Butterrow Gate is a distinctive, beautifully renovated Grade II listed property which sits proudly on Butterrow Hill on the outskirts of the market town of Stroud. Located in the heart of the stunning "Five Valleys" region of the Cotswolds, Stroud is well known for its bohemian vibe and eclectic mix of shops, with Jasper Conran describing the weekly Farmers' Market held in the town as "the Covent Garden of the Cotswolds". The Five Valleys converge on Stroud and contain some of the most beautiful countryside Britain has to offer. Butterrow Gate is also well placed for exploring further afield, with the spa towns of Bath and Cheltenham both within easy reach. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!
The green front door opens into an entrance hall which houses the washing machine/tumble dryer, and the following rooms are on the ground floor: Living/dining room: Laid with beautiful flagstone flooring, this uniquely shaped room features original Cotswold stone walls, pretty stone mullion windows and a cosy wood burning stove. Tastefully decorated, this room contains a sofa, a footstool and an armchair, along with a Freesat TV with DVD player and a small dining table with drop down leaves which comfortably seats two; Kitchen: This compact yet well-equipped space contains an electric oven with four ring-induction hob, a dishwasher, Morphy Richards coffee machine, a fridge with a small freezer compartment, a kettle and toaster; Family bathroom: Located off the entrance hall, this room contains a walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin. Stairs lead up from the living area directly into the characterful bedroom: Master bedroom: With original Elm floorboards dating back to 1825, and exposed Cotswold stone walls, this bedroom has a romantic ambience and stunning views from the stone mullion windows over the pretty market town of Stroud and the surrounding valley. There is a pretty wrought iron double bed and two occasional chairs, as well an ornamental stone fireplace and a double wardrobe. The stable door from the bedroom opens onto the outside patio area decorated with pretty pots and featuring the walk-on glass area directly above the kitchen. Three steps lead up to a larger patio area with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the market town of Stroud. This private, sunny space has an outdoor table, two chairs and a wooden bench, perfect for relaxing on warm summer days. A charcoal barbecue is provided from April to September, and there is a chiminea for cooler evenings. The outside space can also be accessed via a right of way through the neighbour’s garden and on street parking is available close to the property.
Encircled by five sweeping valleys opening out to the River Severn and made famous by Laurie Lee's novel "Cider with Rosie", the scenery is dramatic around Stroud. The town and its surrounding villages provide a great base from which to explore the undiscovered south Cotswolds, as well as for day trips to Bristol and Bath. London is just a 90 minute direct train away. At a time when the prevalence of chain stores has turned many of Britain's High Streets into copies of each other, Stroud is a welcome relief. With a bohemian vibe and an enviable array of independent shops, Stroud offers a unique shopping experience unrivalled by any town or city in the locality. Brimming with character and standing amidst the dramatic backdrop of the Five Valleys, Stroud has an eclectic mix of shops in the most beautiful of settings. The award-winning Farmers' Market is held each Saturday and is one of the best in the country, described by Jasper Conran as "the Covent Garden of the Cotswolds". Throughout the summer months, street performers will entertain you every Saturday morning and there is a full programme of music and theatre throughout the year – a true hub of cultural events. Stroud is a place that repays investigation, especially for the quality and variety of artists at work in the area – you could also choose to take part in one of the many traditional workshops! Food & Drink Stroud has numerous places to eat and drink, with a range of cuisines and prices to suit all tastes and budgets. The list below is a small sample of the range of options available: JRooL Bistro (www.jrool.co.uk): JRooL Bistro is a fine example of the sum of its parts being greater than the whole. The team has a passion for food and wine, such that the end result is an experience of food, wine and service that is, simply, award winning. The flexibility of the dining room encourages leisurely family lunches, business dining, appetisers and drinks at the bar, pre-theatre dinners or a full gastronomic experience; No 23 Bar & Bistro: No 23 is a popular, independent Stroud Bar, Café and Restaurant, specialising in tapas and Mediterranean fare. The fully stocked bar serves choice wines, beers and aperitifs to complement the extensive menu; Sorrento Italian Restaurant (www.sorrentostroud.co.uk): The menu offers superb presentations of traditional favourites, such as pizzas, pasta, succulent steaks, chicken and fish dishes, all served in a relaxing, friendly environment. Stroud also has a wide range of food retailers, including an award winning Farmers' Market, held every Saturday.
  • Full of character, had everything we needed.

    Jessica2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great, special and quirky space. Amenities were great and the place was sparkling clean, would definitely recommend and stay again. I imagine it would be spectacular in the summer. Jut watch out for stepping right onto quite a busy road where traffic comes roaring past. Parking was also tricky.

    Lou2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Property was lovely and perfect for a few days away. Tip: don't park opposite the property as you will get a note from one of the neighbours, also take your own milk as this isn't provided. Great stay and great location.

    Joanne2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully decorated, great homely feel and everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

    Anna2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely stay at the cottage and it’s more beautiful in real life with an amazing view. Would definitely recommend and return. Not much off street parking but we didn’t mind parking down the hill and walking up. Worth a visit for sure!

    Eleanor2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful winter break at Butterrow gate. The property is gorgeous, very quirky and has everything you need. It is also clean and well presented. The location is great for exploring Stroud and other local villages. The tips provided by the host were perfect. We loved the farmer’s market, the antiques mill and local walks. It is worth noting that the property is on a busy road and you may be kept awake by traffic if you are a light sleeper. We slept like logs from all of the walking! Xx

    Lucy2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed at the cottage for a week while exploring the Cotswolds. It was such a lovely place to stay. It is exactly as it looks in the pictures small and super cozy and wonderful. We had a really good time. The place was in a good location if you had a car to explore all the surrounding towns. Without a car the cottage it a little but above the town and therefore is a bit less accessible. Contact with character cottages was easy, check in and out was no issue. The only negative feedback is that the place was a little low on essentials. When we arrived there wasn’t any coffee for the coffee machine and there were no other supplies for cooking other than olive oil. However the kitchen is very sweet and easy to use for home cooked meals. We also weren’t informed beforehand that the washer and dryer machine didn’t work and didn’t find this out till arriving, I thought this would have been great to be told earlier in order to organise our washing. Otherwise the place was the picture perfect cottage and we would definitely stay there again. I would definitely recommend a visit for anyone considering it.

Greencourt Loft is a self contained, comfortable and luxurious coach house room situated in the beautiful and quiet village of Middleyard, on the edge of the Cotswold Escarpment in-between Stroud and Stonehouse. Just a few miles from J13 of the M5, we are in an area of outstanding natural beauty with access to open common land and ancient woodland, where mountains bikers, runners walkers and horse riders can all enjoy outdoor activities. The famous Cotswold Way runs close to the property.
This coach house room was hand built, decorated and maintained by your hosts Sara & Jamie. We designed it to maximise the morning and evening sun taking in the stunning views of the Cotswold Escarpment to the front, and across the river Severn to the Welsh Hills at the back where you can watch the setting sun from the small balcony. We have taken great care to consider what makes a guest feel special with luxurious, cotton bed-linen to soften the rustic charm of the room, local/organic produce (where possible) for a simple and delicious breakfast and warm underfloor heating in the wet room. We know how we like to be treated when we are travelling and enjoy passing this on to our guests. The property sits next to a direct access to wide open fields and a stream at the rear where a myriad of local footpaths connect to the Cotswold Way. Often Walkers along the Cotswold Way travel in groups and need larger accommodation than we can provide, however, there are a handful of similar sized Air BnB properties very near by and within walking distance so larger groups may be accommodated over several locations. Please ask for details/recommendations. Additional bed/futon is available on request but please note...guests not sharing the double bed and requiring a separate bed will be charged and additional £5. There is no provision on the Airbnb platform to facilitate this charge so this can be settled at check-in. Please message this requirement when booking.
Greencourt Loft is situated at the end of a no through road. The back of the property backs onto open fields where many footpaths cross and can give you access to the village or the Cotswold way. Middleyard is about a mile from Kings Stanley where there is a well stocked Co-Op, Takeaway, hairdressers and beauty salon. Guests arriving by train to nearby Stonehouse, Stroud or Cam and Dursley stations can be collected by arrangement.

  • We had the perfect stay at Christine’s place. Christine and warm and welcoming, house has a lot of charm and the bed was so comfortable! Christine also made us breakfast, which set us up for a day of hiking. We would recommend Christines place to anyone and would certainly stay again.

Welcome to Pear Tree Cottage, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Pear Tree Cottage is a beautifully renovated holiday home peacefully located in the rural hamlet of Cherington. Surrounded by the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Cherington is a quintessential English village with a village green and a parish church. Close by is the village of Avening, home to two well-regarded country pubs, and there is a lovely organic farm shop with a café just a five minute drive from the cottage. Cherington is perfectly placed for exploring the many pretty towns and villages of the South Cotswolds including Tetbury, Nailsworth, Malmesbury and Cirencester, as well as the spa towns of Bath and Cheltenham. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!
Pear Tree Cottage is located in the quiet hamlet of Cherington. Accessed via a lovely patio garden, the front door opens directly into the spacious yet cosy living room. The following rooms are located on the ground floor: Living room: This bright and airy space is full of character and charm, including a bay window, wooden flooring, an inglenook fireplace with a cosy wood burning stove and vintage and antique tables, all complemented by wonderful artwork. There are two sofas, a Freeview TV with a DVD player, and a DAB radio; Dining room: This elegantly presented room is an ideal space for entertaining. There is a large wooden dining table with seating for six, an inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove, a restored antique chair, a converted copper paraffin lamp and an iPod docking station; Kitchen: This well-equipped space is perfect for home cooking and features an electric oven with four-ring electric hob, fridge with ice box, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and a CD player with radio; Utility room: A handy space for keeping muddy boots and storing jackets. This room contains a washing machine/tumble dryer, microwave and an additional fridge. A staircase in between the kitchen and utility room leads up to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms: Master bedroom: A beautifully presented room with gorgeous views overlooking the quiet country lane from the bay window. There is a king size bed, two chests of drawers (one with a vanity mirror), a wooden rocking chair, plus hooks behind the door for additional hanging space; Bedroom 2: Overlooking the pear tree in the front garden, this lovely bedroom contains two single beds, a chest of drawers for storage, plus hooks for additional hanging space; Family bathroom: A bright and stylish bathroom with a bath, walk-in shower, toilet, wash basin and a heated towel rail. The beautiful rear garden is accessed via the utility room and comprises three different areas. The first section is a lawn bordered by pretty flowers and a box hedge, a lovely setting to relax and unwind. From here, the garden continues through a gap in the stone wall to another well-maintained area which is bordered by flowers, grasses and a variety of fruit trees. This part of the garden descends to one last lawn area, a lovely tranquil space which provides stunning views over the rolling hills and Cotswold countryside beyond. Free on-street parking is readily available close to the cottage and throughout the hamlet.
The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.
  • Check-in was a breeze – Kevin met us promptly and was very helpful and friendly in showing us round. The cottage is close enough to supermarkets to buy supplies (10-15min from many major brands) yet equally set in the countryside to escape from everything. It was perfectly clean and had everything you could possibly need. Internet was great too for film nights and booking your tickets...but you’d hardly need it beyond that because of the beautiful scenery. Would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone!

  • This cottage is incredibly beautiful and cosy. We had a wonderful time and would definitely visit again!

  • What a lovely comfortable & stylish cottage. We enjoyed the proximity toTetbury with an array of antique shops galore! We visited Bath which was an easily managed one hour drive. Beds exceptionally comfy with quality linen. We enjoyed the log burner & home from home feel !Thankyou!

  • We loved our weekend in Pear Tree Cottage; a delightful retreat. It was warm and very comfortable, and suited the four of us beautifully. We enjoyed cooking in the very well equipped kitchen, and eating in the pretty dining room. Two miles or so from Minchinhampton with pubs (we ate a very good meal at The Crown) and shops, Cherington itself is a lovely Cotswolds village with walks from the door - the countryside around magical with hoar frosts on the 2 days we were there.

    Paul2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Pear Tree Cottage gives you everything you need for a perfect Cotswolds stay. For our winter stay it was cosy & utterly charming. A really delightful place.

    Lindsay2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic cottage in a lovely little village. We were welcomed at the cottage by Kevin who showed us around and let us know he was available should we need any help at all. There is a lovely log burning fire with enough wood supplied to use for one night, we bought more wood from a supermarket ten minutes drive away.

    Georgina2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful little cottage in the cotswolds. Perfect location for exploring the rest of the area. Lovely clean and cosy cottage with a wonderful fire for the evenings. Would highly recommend

  • A fantastic home away from home in a quiet village just outside Tetbury. Comfortable, spacious and well equipped - we couldn’t have asked for any more. We will definitely return for more cosy nights in front of the fire!

Welcome to Grange Cottage, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Grange Cottage is a stunning Cotswold stone cottage, which enjoys an idyllic rural location, with spectacular views across a valley to the Woodchester Valley Vineyard. The cottage is on the edge of the village of Amberley, which although small, has two well regarded pubs. Amberley backs onto the National Trust common land of Minchinhampton Common, a unique 600 acre open space with far reaching views, which offers walking, kite flying and an 18-hole golf course. The larger towns of Nailsworth and Stroud are close by, offering a vibrant selection of restaurants, shops and award-winning farmers markets. Grange Cottage is an ideal base for outdoor activities such as walking and cycling, as well as for exploring the wider Cotswolds region and further afield places, such as Bath, Oxford and even day trips into London. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!
Grange Cottage is a large semi-detached Cotswold stone cottage, which sits on a steep slope at the top of a rural lane, and benefits from stunning views. The front door opens into the conservatory, which leads through to a well laid out ground floor area: Conservatory: This room enjoys lovely views over the garden to Woodchester and beyond, and has two wicker chairs; Living room: From the conservatory, a step leads into the characterful living room, which has an exposed Cotswold stone fireplace with a wood burning stove, oak beams, and alcove shelving with a selection of local books. There are two two-seater sofas, a small arm chair and a window seat that looks out over the valley. There is also a SMART TV with a DVD player; Reading room: The living room adjoins this pretty room, which has French doors opening out to the garden. There is a small writing bureau, two chairs and a hamper of games; Kitchen/dining room: Steps lead up from the living room to the kitchen, a spacious room with a wooden dining table and seating for six. The well-equipped kitchen has a double electric oven, a six-ring gas hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and a hand blender; Utility room: A convenient space for boots and coats, which contains a washing machine/tumble dryer and a freezer; Cloakroom: Contains a toilet and a wash basin. Stairs lead up from the living room to the first-floor landing, off which are the following rooms: Master bedroom: A lovely eaves room, with high ceilings and exposed oak beams, which contains a king size bed and fitted wardrobe, and has nice views of the woodland behind the cottage; Bedroom 2; This bright room enjoys a sunny aspect, with views across to the Woodchester Valley Vineyard, and contains a large single bed; Bedroom 3: Contains a day bed, which is made up as a single bed. The window seat is perfect for watching the sun set; Family bathroom: Contains a bath with an overhead shower, toilet and wash basin. Steep spiral stairs, without a handrail, lead up from the first floor landing to: Bedroom 4: Another lovely eaves rooms, with exposed beams and panoramic views over the Woodchester Valley Vineyard and beyond. There is a double bed, fitted wardrobes and a free-standing flatscreen TV. The door to this bedroom is at the bottom of the stairs and it is not possible to put a stair gate at the top of the stairs, so this room may not be suitable for young children. The main garden area is at the front of the cottage, enclosed by Cotswold stone walls, and is mostly laid to lawn, with traditionally planted cottage garden borders and a variety of mature shrubs and trees. There is a patio area outside the conservatory, with an outdoor table and seating for six, which provides spectacular views across the valley to Woodchester and benefits from glorious sunsets. A lockable shed is available upon request to store bikes and other outdoor equipment. Steps from the back door lead up to a gravelled parking area, with space for two cars.
Fiona2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A gorgeous cottage with lots of character and stunning views. We had a lovely cosy weekend with fires (make sure you pick up enough kindling from the local supermarket) and walks through the woods (wellies necessary!) to the pub, finished off with brunch in the well set up kitchen. Be prepared to climb a very steep hill if your car can’t make it up!

    Laura2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Grange Cottage is very comfortable, warm and cosy. It is a classic Cotswolds cottage with great views over the valley opposite. The location, while up a very steep hill, was excellent - - a short walk through the wood to the fantastic Amberley Inn - - and no issue with access with our car. The log burner was a welcome addition on the cold evenings we spent there.

    David2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for a wonderful stay in your fabulous cottage. It was a beautiful warm, cosy and very clean property with views to die for! I cannot thank you enough for sending back our Google Chromecast so quickly after we left it behind in the property, it arrived in the post today. That is what I call a first class service! Funny thing was that we didn’t even need it as Netflix was already provided. I would like to highly recommend Character Cottages for anyone looking for a quiet and peaceful getaway.

    Sachin2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage had everything you could ask for - 4 beautiful bedrooms with lovely clean bed linen and comfortable beds. Fantastic views and a cosy log fire with idyllic walks around the area. It was very quiet and peaceful and just what we needed as four mums trying to get some relaxation time away from hectic lives and young children. We couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Thank you!

    Caroline2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful house located on a serene hill. Quaint details were added throughout the house which made the experience all the more wonderful. The place was super clean! The only downside is that it is located on a very steep hill & a bit too narrow & difficult to drive up. It was a very good stay regardless :)

    Maznan2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay. Fantastic views. Cottage up a steep hill. Pleasant walks from the cottage. Low ceilings but that's to be expected when you consider when it was built.

    Mark2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant cottage, all as described! Even though it rained quite literally the ENTIRE stay, we didn’t really notice because the house was so nice and had everything we needed! Thank you!

The Retreat is situated on Woodchester Valley Vineyard in the Cotswolds, close to Stroud and 1 mile from Nailsworth town with many restaurants, walks, shops and supermarkets. It offers spacious accommodation with stunning views over the valley, a fully equipped kitchen, log burners in both the kitchen and sitting rooms as well as the full sky TV package in 2 separate rooms. As this is adjacent to a working vineyard, regrettably no children under the age of 12 can be accommodated.
The master bedroom offers a super king size bed which can be made into twin beds upon request.
We are located 1.5 miles from the bustling town of Nailsworth, which has an abundance of restaurants, cafés and pubs for breakfast, brunch and dinner options. We are 3.5 miles from the market town of Stroud which boasts one of the best farmers markets in the country every Saturday. The spa towns of Cheltenham and Bath are within 45 minutes, and the area is very popular with walkers, cyclists and those looking for a base from which to explore the South Cotswolds.
  • We had such a wonderful stay here. Although there are only two bedrooms the communal space feels like the house is much larger. There are gorgeous log burners and the house is lovely and warm. We stayed for Christmas and the host had set up a beautiful Christmas tree with lights for us, and couldn't have been more helpful with various changes and questions we had in the run up. Thanks to you all and we hope to come again this year!

  • Had a fantastic stay at the retreat. A beautiful house with lovely views. It was incredibly spacious for just 4 people. The bathrooms and bedrooms are beautifully appointed with large showers and baths. Great enclosed garden for our little dog and also big garden out the front to enjoy. You are literally staying within the vineyards. We did the wine tasting tour at the vineyard, which we thoroughly enjoyed! Woodchester valley wines were superb! The tasting room is next door to the property. There are some great pubs nearby but not within walking distance. A lovely place to stay if you like wine and want a relaxing time! Highly recommend!

    Emily2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location, incredible views, great facilities and space. A very quiet and secluded house in a stunning location, with amazing views across the valley. Tremendously peaceful and restorative.

    Alex2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place has the wow factor. The pictures don’t do it justice. The living room and kitchen are both huge and are great entertaining spaces. The kitchen and the living room both open out onto the front garden and drive which was perfect as the weather was so good when we visited! The bedrooms were a great size and exactly what we needed. It is a tad steep if you’re walking up, but it was generally fine and if you can’t be bothered with that then the local taxis were more than happy to take us home. The view over the hills is also fantastic - such a nice view to wake up to. Highly recommended. Gail was really helpful in the lead up to our visit and throughout!

Our lovely cottage is in the centre of the rural historic town of Dursley. The Cotswold Way passes through making it the ideal rest-stop. Dursley is also ideally located for commuting to Gloucester, Cheltenham, Bristol and Stroud. Our guest room is a cosy double bedroom within our two-bedroomed house, with views over the garden and the chickens - which give fresh eggs daily! We are LGBT friendly.
The double bedroom is small but warm and cosy. Guests are welcome to make use of the bathroom, kitchen and living room, which is prefect to unwind in after a busy day!
We love living in Dursley! The cottage is in the centre of the town although feels like it's in the middle of the countryside! There are great independent restaurants, shops and plenty of walks to keep you busy. Dursley sits within easy reach of Gloucester, Bristol, Stroud and the charming Cotswolds which makes it the ideal place to stay.
  • Fresh eggs for breakfast and a solid nights sleep! Super friendly hosts too 😊

  • A very cosy cottage in the heart of Dursley and a very warm welcome from Stuart made our visit for a birthday party very enjoyable .

    Nick2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and clean place to stay, with kind and supportive people. Stuart and Ashley are true superhosts.

    Juraj2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stuart's place is a hidden gem - if you want to visit Dursley and be within walking distance of the town centre you could not do better. They have managed to make their tiny cottage accommodate a guest and provide all the usual BnB amenities like a Tardis. All communication was very prompt and comprehensively explained how to get there, park and what to expect. I would not hesitate to return again if I need to stay in the area.

  • In a great position right in the centre but still very quiet. Stuart is very welcoming and provide a good breakfast including super fresh eggs! Brilliant value. Only one thing worth mentioning. If you're very short, you may have trouble reaching the box where the key is kept. My wife (height 5ft 1in), for example, couldn't reach it.

Light airy outside room in the garden with a separate entrance. The room has double bed, with a separate shower and toilet. Available for the guests is a microwave, small fridge and kettle with an assortment of tea and coffee. Cereal and fruit are available in the room for breakfast. Home cooked vegetarian breakfast (£4.00) can be ordered. Off road parking is available and access provided via a side gate to the room. WiFi is available and there is a TV in the room.
This is a room that is separate from the house and you have your own side entrance to the room. There is a small patio out the back of the room and with fields and woodlands nearby, we are within walking distance from good woodland walks. Dursley is one of the routes on the famous Cotswold Way walk, which is one of England's finest National trails. Cam and Dursley train station has hourly trains to Bristol, Gloucester and Cheltenham. Dursley has two Indian restaurants that are eat in or takeaway, a couple of Chinese takeaways and an Italian restaurant. Good local pubs and 15 minutes away the Electric Picture House in Wotton-Under-Edge. Stroud is a popular market town 15 minutes drive from Dursley where interesting and quirky events are hosted throughout the year.
The room is detached from the house which is a 1940's semi-detached property on an older estate situated between a red brick school and park. The back of the property borders fields with an outlook onto the woodlands. These woods have many walks and run for miles around Dursley and along to the next village.
  • A great value for money accommodation that is a short walk into Dursley. Margi made the process easy and straightforward. We will definitely use her again in the future.

  • How understated, described correctly as a room in the garden, however it felt much more than that. Very comfortable bed, nice thick towels, warm (I actually turned the heating off in February) and cosy. Shower room was spacious and spotless and although no kitchen as such, with a fridge, microwave and kettle you don’t really need much else. I would recommend and I will be back!

  • Great stay. Everything went smoothly.

    Alex2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Having stayed with Margo in her garden room, we wouldn't now wish to go anywhere else in Dursley.

Sunny, double room in a tall Victorian end of terrace. Perfect for those who want a cosy base right in the centre of Stroud. Breakfast is 'help yourself'. In a big busy, friendly, family, cosy home, with kids, 2 lodgers, cats and fish. Warm welcome assured
Small sunny double bedroom This room on the 3rd floor contains a 4ft 6" double bed, bedside shelves, a hanging rail, a corner desk with lamp and a stool. There is an eco radiator or fan depending on time of year. The shared bathroom is a half landing away with a bath, electric shower, loo and sink. There's another loo next door to the bathroom too. A breakfast of tea/coffee, cereal, toast and fruit juice is included in the price if you stay less than a week (you help yourself). If you're here longer then please provide your own food (our generous discount reflects this). You are welcome to use the kitchen for cooking. We have WIFI which you are welcome to use. The house is a large family and shared 'end of terrace Victorian' home. Its a mixture of classic, contemporary and growing children style. We have 3 cats, lots of fish, several children/young adults and lodgers. The house is by no means 'perfect' - guests can expect a clean and tidy room, with the rest of the house cleaned professionally weekly and kitchen/bathrooms attended to more often. We pride ourselves on a warm relaxed atmosphere for both family and guests which doesn't equate to minimalist immaculate surroundings. Please note there are lots of stairs, so the kitchen is in the basement and the bedroom is 3 floors above.. We're right in central Stroud, minutes from the station and all the shops and restaurants. Parking is available behind the house or on street in front of the house (visitors permit needed except in the evenings and on Sundays). We look forward to welcoming you to our home.
Stroud is an 'alternative' town with interesting shops and cafes, alongside some of the usual high street shops. The countryside round about is particularly lovely and there are many walks that can be done from the house. We're ideally placed for the award winning Saturday farmers market, Stroud Subscription Rooms, Centre of Arts and Science and Lansdown Hall (all within 3-7 minutes walk).
  • Really lovely room and Natasha was really welcoming.

  • Natasha's house has a lovely lived-in feeling and is full of character and I loved looking at all her artwork on the walls. While there were several people in the house (as well as cats, fish and the newest addition to the family, a cute labradoodle puppy!), it is big enough for you to find a quiet space when you want it. The bedroom while small was adequate for my needs and the comfortable bed gave me a good night's sleep. The location of her house is great, only a minute's walk to the town centre on a fairly quiet road. Stroud is lovely with lots of quirky and creative shops to browse and lots of friendly people to help you on your way - a great community spirit!

Walkley Wood Cottage is a charming Grade II listed Bath stone property set over 4 floors. With 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, the cottage sleeps 4 (3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children is the most comfortable configuration). Enjoying a peaceful elevated position, Walkley Wood boasts beautiful views of the surrounding valley and neighbouring Cotswold stone properties. The cottage welcomes two, well-behaved dogs*.
*Dogs: Up to 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome at the cottage at an additional cost of £30 per dog. Please let us know if you will be bringing a dog(s) and we will then revise your booking confirmation. Introduction As you approach Walkley Wood Cottage through the winding lanes of Nailsworth, you will notice how the town and surrounding properties are almost hidden by the secluded woodland valley to the east of Stroud. Proudly perched on the side of sleepy Shortwood Road is Walkley Wood Cottage, a distinguished 19th century property with rustic golden stone that immediately casts a warm and welcoming aura. Ideally situated, this cottage is the perfect base for exploring the tranquillity of the surrounding Stroud Valleys and the wider Cotswolds, while guests are also in easy walking distance of the cheerfully eclectic town of Nailsworth. If you’re looking for somewhere to totally relax and unwind, then Walkley Wood is the perfect Cotswold home for you. As you approach the cottage through the cast iron gate and down the stone steps, you will notice a small outdoor table and chairs set down from the lane behind the dry-stone wall. Guests are welcome to sit outside and enjoy the warmth of the summer months in this compact but delightful sun trap. You may find yourself admiring the beautiful architecture and delicate Georgian windows, this cottage was, after all, built in 1852. Although the exact history of the cottage remains largely a mystery, it has been suggested that the building may have been used as a pub many years ago, which could explain the origins of the kitchen skylight. Either way, it’s nice to consider that many happy memories have been created within these historic walls! Inside, Walkley Wood really is the perfect holiday home. Devoid of fussiness and frill, Karen has struck the perfect balance between homely-cosy comfort and refreshing simplicity. Each floor is brought to life by a sprinkling of quirky vintage features, while guests can simultaneously enjoy a bright and Scandinavian-inspired minimalist feel. The living room is the real heart of the property. A log-burning stove immediately creates a wonderful cosy atmosphere, with soft blankets and cushions scattered over furniture to help guests make themselves feel at home. Just a short walk away is the artistic town of Nailsworth, a gem in the heart of the Cotswold valleys. A largely overlooked town, Nailsworth has a fantastic and unspoiled selection of boutiques, bars, pubs and cafes, and really does offer some of the best food for miles around. Into the hallway and up the next short flight of stairs into the… Master bedroom This fabulous loft-style double bedroom boasts beautiful views from its topmost position in the cottage. With a sumptuous king size bed nestled below the original oak beams of the sloping ceiling, this room is cosy and simple, with some lovely rustic details. Exposed Cotswold stone provides a stunning natural feature wall, while the Victorian chest of drawers and rocking chair are ideal for storage. You will find the hair dryer in a top drawer of the chest. A curtained-off hanging area makes for a unique open-plan wardrobe, ensuring there’s enough space for you to unpack and relax, while the room retains a lovely snug feel. Outside Walkley Wood Cottage enjoys use of the small gravel/paved courtyard at the front of the house. There is a small patio table and two chairs that guests may use for breakfast, lunch or an evening glass of wine if they wish! If you are looking to stretch your legs further, there are plenty of beautiful walks and open fields surrounding Walkley Wood Cottage, just see ‘Walks’ in the Guidebook.

  • I recently stayed at Jean's for the Cheltenham festival. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend to anyone in the area! It's a 15 minute drive from the centre of Cheltenham and with access to a bus just 2 minutes walk from the house. The room is big and spacious, bigger than the pictures suggest. It has a big, comfortable bed and had a kettle, microwave and fridge in the room for personal use. The tv also has Netflix and Amazon Prime access. Really pleasant stay!

There are breathtaking panoramic views of the Stroud Valleys from Minchinhampton Common, which sits on the Cotswold escarpment. It is an important archaeological landscape and managed by the National Trust. Rare orchids and butterflies can be spotted along with freely roaming horses and cattle. The Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty surrounds the town, and the Cotswold Way path passes by it to the west. The award winning saturday farmers market IS A MUST! 25 min drive: BIBURY & ARLINGTON Bibury is a charming, typically Cotswold village just a short drive from Cirencester. It’s easy to see why William Morris called Bibury ‘The most beautiful village in England’ – wonderful stone buildings strung out along the banks of the River Coln. Arlington Row, owned by the National Trust, is one of England’s most iconic and photographed sites – it even appears on the inside cover of UK passports! Originally built in the 14th century as a monastic wool store, it was converted in the 17th century into a row of weavers’ cottages. The cottages are now lived in by National Trust tenants, with no public access to the cottages or gardens, although one of them can be rented out as a holiday cottage. The River Coln flows through Bibury sandwiched between the main village street and an expanse of boggy water meadow known as Rack Isle, so called because wool was once hung out to dry there on racks after it had been washed in Arlington Row. With Arlington Row as a backdrop, it makes one of the most picturesque scenes you will find in the Cotswolds. 30 min drive:CHELTENHAM SPA 45 min drive: BATH SPA
  • Our stay at Victoria’s was lovely. The Airbnb is a stylish apartment which managed to be welcoming and cosy whilst still containing a full kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and lounge area. Victoria was really helpful with telling us about the area so we could go out and explore. Both my sisters and I throughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

  • My husband and I were looking for a quiet night away. We came across this place and thought it looked interesting. We were blown by the beautiful location. We also booked a couple's yoga session which was incredible. It gave us 1.5 hours to really connect with each other. Victoria & Dave were amazing hosts. We will be back again without a doubt.

When we arrived there was a little treat for us, which just added to the experience. My fiancé and I want to come back in the summer, we just loved it so much. Thank you to Gail for all the recommendations too :)

  • Before I came I didnt noticed I have booked a modern wooden barn house adjacent to the vineyard. Staying here, you will see shining stars, the nice sunrise and sunset. Besides, the house is luxurious and simple, you can find everything you want. A pity is that I didnt get to try the wine. I will bring family and friends to visit this place again in the summer.

She had some tea, milk, sugar, butter and croissants waiting for me. Even a little chest with chocolates. I didn’t need them but nice touch! Nice tv and comfy bedding. Decor is nice and perfect for the rooms! Also some guides to the area on the window sill. Area is mostly quiet. At night you could hear the neighbors they the wall but it wasn’t bad at all and they don’t stay up long. So no problem! And I am a very light sleeper. Angela was helpful and easy check in and out! Great stay!!! Maybe some hand soap and a frying pan would have been good.... maybe she usually had them. Not a biggie! I used other things! Would go stay again!

  • This space was absolutely spotless and there were thoughtful touches such as a bathrobe and slippers, that were really nice. Angela was very attentive and responded very quickly to my questions. The bathroom was particularly enjoyable, especially the bathtub. Thank you Angela! Jane

Your accommodation is a single storey extension, to the side of my home, which I have completely modernised and refurbished. You have your own entrance via the back garden and the guest area is locked off from the rest of the house, to ensure guests' privacy. Self service breakfast of cereals and milk available plus tea and coffee facilities in your kitchenette. Own fridge, microwave, kettle, coffee maker and toaster, washing machine. Shared garden and patio with table and chairs.
This little guest suite consists of a double bedroom with double bed (mattress is memory foam, medium firm), laptop desk and clothes hanging rail and drawers. You also have your own kitchenette containing fridge with ice box, microwave, kettle, toaster, cafetiere and crockery etc. There is also a washing machine you are welcome to use. Finally, you have your own newly fitted shower room with large shower, basin and toilet. Please note: I have made the additional guest option available at a surcharge of £10/night. Please note that the kitchenette only has a small breakfast bar and stool to seat one person. The accomodation is therefore only really suitable for two people if you just want a place to sleep.
We live in a quiet, residential area surrounded by a wealth of footpaths which lead you through fields with wonderful views. You can walk into Stroud via various shortcuts, or up the hill into the village of Whiteshill where you will find a lovely pub called The Star and also a village shop (commuity run). Stroud itself is famous for it's Saturday morning farmers market and it's arty, crafty vibe with plenty happening in the local area and a good selection of restaurants, pubs and cafes. The Cotswold Way is, of course, also on the doorstep.
  • Stylish accommodation with everything you need to spend a few days. Everything very new and in a good location. Very clean and with a comfortable bed. Totally recommendable.

  • Heidi’s place was a beautiful room with lovely touches like milk in the fridge and cereals for the morning. We absolutely loved the style of the place!! I stayed while at university for the weekend and the flexible check in/out and key code check in was really useful. Thank you

  • This was a great place and perfect if you are wanting a bit of privacy at a reasonable price... quite roomy, spotless, good shower, functional kitchen... you probably need a car as it's approx 30 mins walk from Stroud centre and uphill coming back!

Very well presented, modern 3 bedroom house in a quiet, private location overlooking a football, basketball & tennis court. The house is always kept to a very high standard of cleanliness and has all it needs to be a comfortable stay. The bedroom has ample storage, an ottoman double bed and two windows bringing in lots of light. There is a shared bathroom next to the room which has a bath and overhead shower. There is parking space to the front of the property.
It has a south facing garden with patio and grass area . Communal use of living areas (kitchen and lounge) welcomed. Each bedroom is fitted with a lock so there should be no concern of privacy or security. We are friendly and enjoy cooking different types of food, watching sports, going to the gym and would be happy to share these interests if you wished to.
The property is in close proximity to a pub restaurant, supermarket (5 mins walk) and gyms. The house is overlooking a football, basketball & tennis court. It is located at the end of a quiet cul de sac in a residential area.
