Places to stay in Heriot
The Mill, formerly the sawmill for Borthwick Hall, is a charming property built in the 1800s. The conversion of the building was completed in 2003 and is now a wonderful family home. My husband, Steve, and I moved up to Scotland from London in December 2017 and absolutely love it up here. With lovely people and beautiful open spaces, it’s the perfect place for us to relax and raise our kids. We love having friends and family visit and look forward to offering our space to guests as well.
The rooms we have for guests to stay make up a private suite situated above our garage with an external stairway for private access. There is a double room with a tv, sofa and wardrobe. All bed linen is provided with extra pillows if you need them. The spacious bathroom had a large bath and separate shower along with his and her sinks. There is a sitting room with sofa, table and chairs as well as kitchen facilities including cooker, microwave and fridge. We also offer a continental breakfast of cereals and homemade bread. Our house is supplied by private spring water so feel free to fill our water bottles for your days out. We are happy to accommodate babies and toddlers and we have a travel cot if needed. Please let us know if you have older children and would like to stay as we may be able to arrange a mattress or bed for them. There are some lovely places to walk nearby and we’d be happy to point them out to you.
  • Such a lovely location, larger than expected. Some lovely personal touches that made the stay that bit more special. Lovely host.

  • Spacious and beautifully furnished apartment in a peaceful rural location. We had a very comfortable and relaxing one night stopover on our journey from Northumberland back up to our home in Argyll. The apartment has everything you need, a real home from home, and breakfast is provided with a delicious fresh loaf of bread plus cereals, tea/coffee, milk, jams and marmalade. We wish we could have stayed longer to explore the area. Edinburgh is easily accessible as well as Peebles, Innerleithen, and Melrose. Highly recommended and very good value for money and you will get a lovely warm welcome from Natasha when you arrive.

  • This, in our view, is a delightful find ~ for its beautifully seclusion; the high standard of accommodation; the amount of space and in so many other ways. Natasha is a fine host who adds a number of her own touches on which other past guests have commented ~ such as a freshly baked loaf of bread. She and her family even invited us to join them for a Rugby World Cup match - and, in our hour of need (don't ask - car troubles), provided us with a much appreciated lift to the nearest garage some miles away. All in all, a terrific base in the gorgeous Scottish Borderlands.

    Bob2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • 2nd time staying at Natasha's place. Can't recommend it enough. We'll be back!

  • A gem in the outskirts of Edinburgh. I only wish we could have stayed longer.

    Maria2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Our first Airbnb experience and what a delight! The annex was beautifully furnished and sparkling clean, everything we needed for a couple of nights away. It is a 15 minute drive to Gorebridge station where parking is free and a 25 minute train ride to Edinburgh. Natasha communicated with us well prior to our arrival and made us feel very welcome with the lovely touches in the flat and the amazing bread! We will definitely be back!

  • An excellent B&B in a lovely country location whilst still being close enough to do day-trips to Edinburgh if required. The accommodation consists of a large kitchen diner, a roomy well appointed bathroom and a spacious bedroom with a large double bed plus sofa & TV, all situated above the garage at first floor level with individual access via an external flight of stairs.

  • Tasha's annex is like walking right into a page from Home Beautiful magazine; without sounding like an estate agent... this home is exquisitely fitted and furnished and you feel like precious family guests in the welcome Tasha gives from the subtle scents round the rooms to the fresh baked bread wafting from the kitchen; everything is perfect. The bookshelves are fascinating, the kitchen well equipped with lovely touches for a cook, like a variety of chopping boards and sharp knives! Reviews say sparkling clean - an understatement- you could eat from the floor - everything was immaculate. Sadly our stay was a whistle stop so we did not explore the area. My tip for this property would be that no matter how weary you arrive take time to indulge in the sumptuous bath, there is ample hot water and room to swing several cats. Needless to say this property has our stamp of approval.

My home is a 2 bedroom ground floor flat on a quiet residential street in Gorebridge, a town with great train and bus links to Edinburgh and the Borders. The double room is at the back of the property with views to my large private garden, which you are also welcome to use. The bedroom is adjascent to the shared bathroom. There is a keysafe entry system for easy access throughout the day.
I'm on a quiet residential street with on street parking. My home is calm and relaxed.
There are several historical sites within a 10 mile radius of Gorebridge, including Newbattle Abbey, Borthwick Castle, Crichton Castle, Arniston House and the country parks at Vogrie and Dalkeith. I have a wide knowledge of walks in the area and would happily take guests for a hike if requested!
  • Beautiful place... Cozy, comfortable, easy access ...she is lovely Was perfect

  • From start to finish our stay was so stress free. Ann was very quick with responding to messages. Couldn’t ask for a better host Ann was at the property when we arrived with a warm welcome. Lots of parking available outside the property on the local street. Room was lovely with kettle and brew making facilities, spotlessly clean room with fresh towels. We were going to go to the local pub for food but ended up with a takeaway and Ann kindly let us use the kitchen facilities. Lovely little touch in the morning was the breakfast, cereal, yogurt, fruit and toast with jam and coffee and tea. The house is close to the train station so perfect location if you wanted to get the train (25min journey) into Edinburgh. Excellent value for money and will defiantly be returning as very relaxed and enjoyed the stay.

  • Lovely room and location within a short train ride to Edinburgh. Ann was very helpful and friendly making our stay very comfortable. Even provided a lovely breakfast. Thanks and would stay again

  • Ann is a delightful host: welcoming, friendly, kind and very helpful. His house is very clean and very neat, and the environment is nice and well cared for. The abundant and varied breakfast is another plus point! I highly recommend it, even if it takes a while to get to Edinburgh, there are many coaches and the stop is very close to home: my son and I had a great time with her, she even advised us on the places to visit! If I were to return to Edinburgh, I would have no doubts about where to stay!

    Monica2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous place to stay. Ann is a wonderful host being friendly, informative and helpful. We even went for a beautiful walk nearby. Her house is so comfortable, quiet, immaculately clean and the breakfast provided just added to the excellent value for money. I would happily stay here again and would highly recommend booking.

    Helen2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Ann is very attentive, she has prepared a small itinerary according to our desires and an excellent breakfast nicely prepared! Her house is very charming, the bed is super comfortable, we have an excellent memory of our first night in Scotland. We would have stayed an extra night !!

    Alli&JM2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Ann is a great host and makes you feel like at home. The house is located in a quite place and the bedroom is nice and cozy with a comfortable bed. You will definitely not find a better place.

  • Ann's place was a delight to stay at, even only for one night. She was helpful every step of the way and made sure we had a good stay. If you need somewhere to enjoy the peace of a small town, we can't recommend Ann's house more. We hope for the chance to visit again.

My place is close to public transport. You’ll love the cottage because of the outdoors space and the ambiance. The cottage is ideal for couples. The Scottish tourist board rate our cottage as four star standard. You are in the heart of the country but only 40 minutes from Edinburgh and most of the Scottish borders towns. Rolling hills, lots of walking, interesting places to see historical, cultural and modern.
The cottage is warm and comfortable with views of the rolling borders countryside and direct access to the hills around. Recently renovated to a high standard this is a listed 18th century cottage next door to our house which used to an inn with a Robert Burns connection. The cottage has a garden with a decked area and barbeque and its own parking space. The living space has a log burner as well as central heating. The kitchen is fully fitted with Fridge freezer, cooker, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. The bedroom has a Superking sized bed but can be set up as two singles on request. No9 is ideally suited to sightsee in the Scottish Borders but is also very convenient for Edinburgh with very easy access.
The Scottish borders gives access to many large country houses, ruined abbeys and castles. Fishing, golf, walking and mountain biking are all available locally. There is beautiful countryside all around and yet you are only 40 minutes from Edinburgh by train or car. Edinburgh is a very vibrant city full of interest.
  • Great cottage that's perfect for couple or a small family. We took our baby daughter. The house was clean and has all the amenities that you would need. It's near small village Stow, that we didnt visit but we visited nearby Lauder and Galashiels town. We easily found some great pubs for lunches in both places. Lots great walks and historic buildings nearby. John was quick to respond and check in/out was a breeze. The small touches around the house were appreciated.

    Imran2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a cosy and lovely cottage perfect for couples or lone travellers. It’s easier to get around if you have a car but not impossible by public transport or even walking if you’re fit enough.

    Nigar2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the cottage, which is immaculately turned out and comfortable. The owners, John and Allwin, were incredibly welcoming and friendly and offered good advice about the area. They were waiting for us with the keys as we arrived and allowed us flexibility with our checkout. Moreover their communication was exceptional in the lead-up to the trip. The cottage itself is perfect for a couple, small but with all your needs catered for. There were lovely little additional touches - coffee and tea, shortbread, and milk all arranged ready for our arrival. If you're over six feet tall (as I am) you may find some parts of the cottage a little uncomfortable - particularly the shower, which you won't be able to stand up in, and the eaves of the roof in the bedroom can be a head-bang risk (which I did on more than one occasion). The open fire is gorgeous, though, and wood is readily accessible just outside the back door. The proximity of the road to the cottage makes for a slightly less-than-peaceful stay, as cars whizz past at 60mph, though we did stop noticing by the end of our stay. The road isn't safe to walk down, though it looks like there may be paths down to the village accessible by the back of the garden - we didn't investigate. The setting is stunningly picturesque, and the back garden being on a slope allows for lovely views when sat out in the evening.

  • We really enjoyed this little cottage. It was clean and very comfortable, It was close to many things I needed and was close to some great walking trails. John was very friendly and quick to respond

    Shelley2019-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • John was a great host and his cottage was great.

    Matthew2019-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem of a cottage! It's location is perfect to explore both the wonderful city of Edinburgh (get the train from Stow, saves having to park!) and also the beautiful surrounding country side. John is a fantastic host! He was always swift to answer my questions before the stay and always had sound advice. He was very welcoming on our arrival and kindly showed us round the cottage. The cottage itself is the perfect cosy get away for a couple. The space was clean and very well designed with everything you'd need in the kitchen and living areas. We absolutely loved it and would definitely go back, thank you again John and Allwin

    James2019-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at your cottage. Very welcoming and everything that you would need for a relaxing break, we enjoyed sitting by the cosy log burner even though the cottage was warm it created a lovely atmosphere. And the most comfortable bed we have slept in too! We found the folders full of local interest and days out very helpful. Well recommended Thanks John and Allwen

    Hilary2018-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful little cottage in the borders. Even though it is on the main road (making it super easy to find), the traffic didn't annoy us at all, and it still felt really peaceful and was a lovely place to switch off for the weekend. John was away for a couple of days when we arrived, so Allwin met us to check us in. She was incredibly kind and stayed up for our late arrival! The cottage itself is really wonderfully kitted out - a dishwasher makes so much difference to relaxation, and the bed (a ziplink king I think) was so incredibly comfortable! Great kitchen - small but perfectly formed - and lovely touches like a pint of milk in the fridge when we arrived, and a packet of shortbread on the tea tray. The Scottish weather put pay to our BBQ plans but the garden is also beautiful and there's a gate at the top straight onto the hills for keen walkers. Highly recommended!

  • Excellent AirBnb experience! I was supposed to stay for a month and ended up extending my booking to two months. It's a really nice and new flat, where you get your own private bedroom and bathroom. You will be sharing the living room and kitchen with the friendly couple that hosts you: Jamie and Justyna. There is a bus stop literally in front of the flat's entrance that will take to Edinburgh city centre every 20-30 minutes. The ride will take around 40 minutes and cost 1.70 pounds the single ticket. Everything you see in the pictures is what you'll get since they show the actual state of the house which is new. Thanks for everything!

    Guido2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Jamie and Justyna's was lovely. They have a comfortable, tidy and clean home. Conveniently located next to a bus stop that brings you straight into Edinburgh city. I felt very welcome and comfortable from the first night! Would highly recommend!!

Borthwick Castle View is set in a historical picturesque valley 16 miles south of central Edinburgh. The luxury accommodation with private entrance features a bedroom at mezzanine level, fully equipped kitchen, shower room, log burning fire and stunning views across the valley to Borthwick Castle. It is the perfect place for a rural escape or staycation, still within easy reach of Edinburgh & less than 30 miles to many Scottish border towns & coasts; with both train & bus services available.
You have exclusive use of the annex for your stay with your own private entrance. Borthwick is a small hamlet in the picturesque valley overlooked by the 15th Century Borthwick Castle, with the mark of Cromwell's cannonballs etched into the wall from the failed 1650 siege. The castle was visited by Mary Queen of Scots in 1563 and 1567 and more recently used for filming the film Outlaw King. There is lots of nature in Borthwick valley, such as owls, deer, geese, herons and other animals. Walkers and cyclists are spoilt for choice withthe option of a woodland walk through Currie Woods to nearby Crichton Castle, Vogrie Country Park and the Innerleithen cycle route all being closeby. The wider area has distilleries, a mining museum, horse riding, golf courses and Arniston House. Nearby, East Lothian has a range of spectacular beaches. Edinburgh city centre is 16 miles away where you can enjoy a huge range of cultural, historic and architectural attractions or hit the shops for some retail therapy, cinemas, museums or the Arts Festival and Festival Fringe in the summer. Closer by is Gorebridge, a nearby village which has a selection of shops, takeaways and services. There is also a 24 hour Tesco Superstore and petrol station less than 7 miles away.
  • We had a great stay at Emmie’s place! We particularly liked the setting overlooking the fields and castle. Emmie and Ryan were excellent hosts and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The annex is also kitted out with a large a array of board games, books, and other little treats, which is a wonderful touch.

    Ian2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • A gorgeous place to stay in a really quiet area - from making sure the log fire was already lit to the spotlessly clean and well equipped house, we would recommend a stay to anyone wanting to spend a few days and nights just chilling out after a great walk - we hope to return

  • We couldn’t have asked for better hosts, or a better Airbnb. Emmie and Ryan were so welcoming, and the property is stunning. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome, from lighting the fire ready for our arrival, and offering to show us around the area. We’ll definitely be back soon!

    David2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Emmie and Ryan were fantastic hosts! Thank you for all you did for us, especially setting the fire for when we arrived after a long journey. The cottage is a perfect place to explore the local area and Edinburgh by train. The pictures do not do it justice and the cottage contains everything you could ever want and need. Hope to be back one day, couldn’t recommend enough! :)

  • Elliott was a great host and the house was exactly what he describes on the listing. So, if you read the description carefully and it sounds fine to you, you will enjoy your stay. One thing to note is that it takes 40 to 60 minutes from the house to the city centre, so be prepared for bus rides if you have business in the city centre. Otherwise, it was a cozy house to stay, and despite some downsides such as slow running water—specified in the description—Elliott's house is a great place to stay with a welcoming host.

    Jinhyun2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • It was an amazing stay! Elliott is concerned to make everything as comfortable as possible in the smallest details, there was even a jar with water in the room, cables for charging, notes with some directions to help us and plus breakfast. The place is sparkling clean and the room was really cozy, buses just around the corner. I really appreciate all the kindness. The best place and highly recommended! :)

An ideal spot for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families and furry friends. The cottage is situated in acres of stunning countryside with a stream running through the garden. It is equipped with a super king sized bed and extra sofa bed. Come and enjoy the countryside with the wildlife on your doorstep as well as the huge range of activities available nearby. Relax and unwind in front of the open fire. For the sightseers its only a 30 minute drive into the centre of Edinburgh!
An easy spot to unwind but also a great base for walking, golfing, cycling, sightseeing in Edinburgh and the Borders, fishing and is close to the East Lothian beaches. The property is part of an old small holding farm which kept sheep up until recently. The cottage is next door to the main Keith Bridge House, a small 2 bedroom property where the tenants Jemima and Tim live and will welcome you and be available to help if there is anything that you need. Both properties date back to the 1850s with the cottage undergoing a recent renovation. Well known ornithologist George Waterston lived here for a number of years documenting the abundance of bird life found around the property. The stream has fish running through with herons, geese and ducks often patrolling up and down. Otters have been spotted but that is only if you are very lucky! We are pet friendly and have a large garden for dogs to safely run around in.
The small village of Humbie is just over a mile up the road. There is a lovely cafe and general store called ‘The Humbie Hub’. The stunning Humbie church is just a short walk from the house as well as a busy Humbie village hall that often has events on in the village including film nights and coffee mornings. Just up the road the ‘Juniperlee’ is a well renowned eatery with good food. The quaint village of Gifford is around a 15 minute drive away where you can find two good pubs, the Goblin Ha and the Tyneside Tavern. For the golfers there is also the Gifford and Castle Park golf courses nearby as well as the many well renowned East Lothian courses. There are some lovely cycle routes around the quieter back roads of East Lothian that are easily accessed from the cottage. Closer to home enjoy lovely country walks around the Keith Marishal loop and Humbie Woods as well as plenty more. For the more adventurous the Lammermuir Hills are very close by to get some hill walks in! For the whisky lovers the well known Glenkinchie Whisky Distillery is only a five minute drive away or a 45 minute leisurely country walk...

  • A little gem away from it all. We stayed when the storm arrived. Had snow but was wonderfully cozy in front of a real fire with a glass of wine watching all the birds. Everything you could need in the cottage. Will be back later in the year.

  • Matt's property at Keith Bridge is a hidden gem. Feeling completely secluded but actually very close to local towns and amenities, the location is excellent and the cottage and grounds are beautiful. Matt has restored and maintained the property brilliantly and it has everything you need for a few days or weeks. Matt's welcome pack is so helpful and the thoughtful little touches are lovely - we'd love to come back when the weather is warmer!

    Louise2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Just back from a fantastic weekend break at Keith Bridge. Matt's cottage has everything you need for a peaceful stay. Spotless and very comfortable. Already booked to return in April!

  • Rafal's place was exactly as described in the listing. We found it very comfortable for our long stay in Scotland. Loved the furniture and the beds were comfortable. The place is clean and nicely decorated. Fully stocked kitchen (even sharp knives, a rice maker and mixer!) The TV is HUGE and the internet was great for a tech driven traveling family of 4 w speeds over 30mbps consistently. I wished the weather had been nicer to enjoy the outside of the house as well as there is a cute deck with furniture that would of been lovely to use. There is also a parking space! There is a bus stop within a short walk that will take you easily into both Edinburgh and to larger grocery stores in the Dalkeith area (though there is a little co-op in walking distance as well) and with the midlothian bus app this was super easy to do. I will say it was hard to find an uber or a taxi, as you are a bit out from Edinburgh itself. My husband had to leave town twice while we were here and had early morning flights and both times it took a bit to get a ride, did eventually get one, but plan for extra time if you need to do this. The neighborhood is a quiet suburban family type neighborhood with a mix of apartments and townhomes, kids playing together outside etc. Rafal was always flexible and quick to respond when I had a question. Check in was super easy, our train was almost 4 hours late and he was able to adjust without a problem.

    Tonia2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Well equipped, comunitive host

    Tom2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Rafal's place over the Christmas period and hence had high expectations as it was also our first time in Edinburgh. We quickly discovered we had made an excellent choice, we couldn't have been happier with the accommodation offered. The house was generously sized with well proportioned rooms, warm, uniquely stylish and spotlessly clean. The kitchen and bathroom are excellent, looking brand new and beautifully designed. All our expectations were exceeded by the thoughtful touches Rafal had included, there was nothing we could have needed in the 5 nights we spent there that couldn't be easily found. It really felt like we were at a home that we could have stayed at much longer as everything was readily available and in such good order. We particularly enjoyed the spacious, fully equipped kitchen with the large cooker and every appliance you can think of, the gorgeous sofa and the large TVs, the abundant hot water and excellent heating and of course the Christmas tree. The pebble walls in the larger bedroom gave us a decorative idea for the future! Thanks again and we hope to return when we are back in your part of the UK.

  • Excellent house with an excellent host definitely a home from home!

    Robert2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Rafal is an excellent host and i highly recommend him for other guests. The furnishing and equipment were even better than expected from the pictures. We instantly felt at home and had such a good time there. Just rent a car and you have a perfect basis for your trips to Edinburgh (20min) or the surrounding countryside while you have a parking spot waiting for you directly attached to the quiet home of Rafal to get your rest in.

    Philipp2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Clean family house with parking and near a large park. On bus route for trips into Edinburgh. Rafal is responsive and polite so a great host.

The Coach House is located a short distance from the idyllic East Lothian village of Humbie, nestled in the foothills of the Lammermuir Hills yet only 18 miles from the centre of Edinburgh. Situated on a small working sheep farm it is both a tranquil and accessible location which is also near to the Scottish Borders and the seaside coast and golf courses of East Lothian. It is ideal for a touring, golfing, fishing, walking or general sightseeing holiday.
The accommodation comprises a fully fitted kitchen with breakfast bar and dining area, bathroom and utility room on the ground floor where there is ample storage and drying areas. The first floor has 2 bedrooms and living room served by relatively steep stairs with handrail. The main bedroom has an ensuite W.C and basin. There are seating areas around the cottage for relaxation outside. We do welcome guests with dogs but understandably only if well controlled as it is a working sheep farm.
Only a short walk from The Coach House is Humbie village where guests can make use of the Humbie Hub for lunch and refreshments, shopping essentials and Post Office facilties.
  • Beautiful location and a clean and warm home. It is really worth traveling a few kilometers from the center of Edinburgh to enjoy the countryside, apart from the whole house is beautiful and the hosts are unbeatable. Do not think about it, you will spend a few days in the real Scotland

    Javier2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • We are a family of 5 escaping our house whilst a new kitchen was being fitted. Kirsty is a fantastic host and very friendly. The cottage was great, very clean and we has a great time staying there.

    Malcolm2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Really helpful host, great kitchen with all the basic utensils for cooking meals , milk in the fridge a nice touch, the sofa bed was comfortable, set in the grounds of a beautiful farm, great base for exploring surrounding area, about 45 mins drive to Edinburgh.

    Hannah2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our family enjoyed a very lovely stay at the Coach House. An excellent base for exploring in and around Edinburgh, while offering the chance to enjoy the lovely countryside and escape the busy city. The property is lovely and clean and has everything you need to self cater, and plenty of space to relax. I would recommend Kirstys place to anyone looking for somewhere peaceful to relax while wanting access to what the city has to offer. We packed in The National Museum of Flight, The National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh Zoo, Dalkeith Country Park and a fabulous meal at the nearby Juniperlea restaurant which Kirsty recommended. Thanks for a fab stay. X

  • Very friendly hosts, charming accommodation. Would definitely recommend it!

    Edward2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, cute cottage in a serene setting. We stayed during a somewhat dreary time of year for Scotland, but the cottage was clean and pleasant, and Kirsty was very warm and welcoming. We didn't get the chance to explore the farm because of the rain, but would definitely recommend the location for a splendid getaway. We took the train from Gorbridge into Edinburgh and it was easy and inexpensive. Would totally recommend!

    Anita2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at The Coach House as we were visiting places around that area. It is a very quiet and idyllic location but not far away from Edinburgh. The cottage is planned very thoughtfully with all amenities, and is surrounded by a wonderful sheep farm. Kirsty and Tim are amazing hosts and they live just a few yards from the cottage. They would help you with all the local information and the best way to visit Edinburgh or the area around Humbie. It was very thoughtful of Kirsty to leave a bottle of milk in the fridge when we arrived so that we could have some tea after a tiring drive. Will definitely recommend this place to anyone who would want to stay in a beautiful cottage in a lovely countryside.

    Rashmi2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location just outside Edinburgh. This is a comfortable, spacious and well-appointed house. Kirsty was friendly and helpful before we came and during our stay. This is a lovely place to stay if you are visiting that part of the world.

  • Sharon is a very warm person. We found the address easily. We stayed from Friday night to Monday morning. His house is clean and well kept. The room is upstairs, nice, with several electrical outlets. The bed very comfortable. The bathroom is not very big, with bath and toilet, all very clean and clear. We could use the kitchen if needed. We even tasted the garden salad. Sharon has a dog, we did not hear him barking once. The bus stop is not far from home. We will come back with pleasure if the opportunity arises. We recommend Sharon as host. Danielle and Jean André

Beautiful, spacious entire house available in the suburbs near Edinburgh. Stylish and bright, this property is a perfect base to stay whilst you explore Scotland’s capital and surrounding areas. 20 minutes bus journey to Edinburgh city centre and only half an hour drive to the stunning Scottish Borders. A plentiful array of local bars, restaurants and shops close by.
Guests are welcome to make themselves feel at home and use all our household amenities. Public transport s e.g bus stops and railway stations very close by. If the weather is right, feel free to make use of our garden (if the Scottish weather allows).
Bonnyrigg is typical Scottish community situated just outside Edinburgh. A short distance from both the city centre and countryside, you will have the opportunity to explore both. There are lots of local bars and restaurants in the surrounding area and we would be more than happy to point you in the direction of some of our favourites.
  • We had received a very warm welcome on our arrival at Coleen’s place. Throughout our stay Coleen has been a fantastic host responding quickly to all our queries. The house is very spacious with all amenities you may require and a lovely garden at the back if you need to relax a bit. Location is great, right in the Bonnyrigg town centre and a short drive/bus ride from Edinburgh. All in all, a great experience.

    Patryk2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second visit to Edinburgh, and Coleen’s place has been a perfect stay. A very large accommodation, with everything you would expect from your own home: a vast living room, a spacious kitchen with a 6 seats table overlooking a cozy and well-maintained garden, two separate double-bed-rooms, and a modern bathroom. In contrast with most Airbnb places, Coleen’s one provides also a dish-washing machine, a washing machine, a completely furnished kitchen, TV with Netflix, Sky, a large (100+) selection of DVDs, and even a PlayStation for kids (and grown-ups). As most options in Edinburgh, the location is not very central, but is conveniently located two minutes walk from the bus stop: there you can jump on the bus (line 31) and enjoy an eye-catching half hour drive towards Princes street on a tourist-friendly double decker.

    RafDouglas2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • The house is really nice and big, deco is warm. The place is perfect to be next to Edimbourg.

  • The house was very nice and confortable. Coleen was very attentive with the details. I strongly recomend this house.

  • To get the address on the GPS, do not follow the directions on the page in google maps because they take you to a cross street. Coleen has been pending and available and has left us very clear and useful instructions for our stay. The accommodation is as described on the page. It is very well located to go to Edinburgh by bus. We have been very well.

  • The spring cottage is lovely and very comfortable. We found a really clean house, equipped with all the essentials. It's perfect for four people, but remember that the two beds are queen sized. Location-wise it takes around 5 minutes to the bus stop that will take you to the city centre in 30 minutes. There's also a supermarket near the bus stop. Irene responds quickly, she helped and guided us through our many questions and demands even if we never had the chance to meet each other.

It was also lovely and warm, especially when the cosy wood burning stove was lit. We had a great time relaxing in the hot tub while it snowed around us which our two girls thought was fantastic. Built in the 1700s the Gardener's House is set into the old Walled Garden in the stunning grounds of Arniston House, a William Adam Stately Home. • Gardeners House was the perfect base for our holiday. We were able to visit all the places we had preplanned easily and discovered we were very close to Rosslyn Chapel, a real gem enjoyed by our whole party aged 12 to 80! The house is very comfortable, welcoming and very well equipped, we loved having a dishwasher. The house was clean, the shower over the bath had a lovely large powerful head. Henrietta provided a very useful folder with local amenities and their addresses and printed directions to take away and use. Free wi-fi was very useful, dvd player and DVD's available was great after a busy day. We all felt very at home.

  • We spent 6 nights at the Gardeners cottage. The space was perfect for us with 4 adults, a toddler and a new baby. We were comfortable and had everything we needed. We hope to stay again on a future visit.

Deceptive from the outside, this large end terrace ex miners cottage has two comfortable public rooms. There is a large bedroom with king size bed and single bedroom available to rent. Tea,coffee, cereals & bread for breakfast are also included as are the use of shampoo, shower gel and toothpaste - this is especially helpful for those travelling from overseas and don't want t worry about carrying too much liquids.
This large end terrace cottage has two comfortable public rooms. The king size bed room has its own bathroom to use (not en suite). The house has a lovely garden and a deck area to the back along with a hot tub for use. There is WiFi, Smart TV with Netflix etc. I have gas central heating and also a wood burning stove and an open fire - so its nice and cosy! Its has a modern country cottage feel with all mod cons and comforts. Kitchen has dishwasher, washing machine, american fridge freezer.
Newtongrange is a historic ex mining village with one of Scotland's Top tourist attractions. It has great local amenities gym, swimming pool, beautiful park including outdoor skatepark and play area. Very close to lots of interesting and beautiful attractions from around midlothian. Click link for more infor a little out of date but still worth a read. (URL HIDDEN)
  • The room is lovely and Fiona the host is brilliant. It’s a cosy, quaint, funky cottage with plenty of room, a relaxed atmosphere, really nice facilities and a hot tub! Will definitely book again.

  • The cottage is very cozy and styled amazingly. I like all the details on the walls, in the corners, shelves. The room and bathroom were very clean. Fiona is a friendly person. She was in touch with me from the beginning of my journey till the end. The area is very quiet. It's very close to the railway or bus station.

Coddiwomple means “to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination” we loved the idea :) Just 15 minutes from the City of Edinburgh bypass, this is the perfect rural retreat for those that want to explore the surrounding areas. Edinburgh and the Lothians offer much to explore. Just a stones throw away from Glenkinchie Distillery, the accommodation includes use of beautiful mature gardens in a tranquil farmland setting where wildlife is abundant. *VERY family friendly*
The cottage is a self contained guest cottage attached to the main house. Being a traditional cottage there are some low ceiling and door heights and some higgledy-piggledy bits too! The location really does have the best of both worlds- the cottage is situated in beautiful mature gardens which you are free to explore and surrounded by quiet farm tracks and fields but only 13 minutes from the City of Edinburgh bypass. We are especially set up for families. We KNOW the nightmare it can be, even leaving the house with little ones, never mind going on holiday, so we have tried to think of everything from Disney DVD's and games to a travel cot and baby bath. Ground Floor- Kitchen: Galley kitchen, kettle, toaster, oven, microwave, tea towels, grater, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery including ones for little fingers, iron and ironing board, cups, glasses, tea, coffee... and just things you would find in your own kitchen! Living room, which is situated just off the kitchen: L-shaped sofa bed, dining table and chairs, DVD player, TV, DVDs, books and games, TV unit, rug. Bathroom: Toilet, sink and electric shower, towels and some toiletries, baby bath, children's bath toys. 1st Floor- Master Bedroom: Double bed, chest of drawers, side tables, hooks for hanging clothes, bedclothes, cosy corner, books, radio alarm clock, USB ports for ease of phone charging, bedside lamps. Twin Room which is situated off the Master Bedroom: Two single beds, cupboard for clothes, games, bedside light, rug. If you need a high chair, bumbo seat, travel cot, or if your child has specific learning need and requires something in particular, please do not hesitate to ask. We will always try our best to help. The cottage can sleep up to 6. We wouldn't recommend 6 adults staying at the cottage it would be better suited to couples or families. There are extras that are available including pick ups and drop offs, clothes washing service and a starter pack for the kitchen...bread, eggs, bacon, butter, milk...you get the idea!
The cottage is just a few miles from Humbie Hub that sells the best scones we have ever tasted and they do a pretty good cooked breakfast too! East Lothian is especially popular with cyclists and our road sees many cyclists making their way through the stunning countryside. If you are keen cyclists we can arrange somewhere secure where you can store your bikes overnight. We are only... 13 minutes from the Edinburgh city bypass 13 minutes from Vogerie Country Park 17 minutes from Dalkeith Counrty Park 20 minutes from the historic 'Honest Toun' of Musselburgh 30 minutes from East Links Family Park 32 minutes from Bobcat Alpaca Experience 40 minutes from 5 Sisters Zoo 40 minutes from the beautiful North Berwick...we could go on, but there are too many brilliant days out near us and we haven't even started on what's on in Edinburgh! You might be from Edinburgh and just want a weekend of country...you are very welcome!
  • Pam and her family were wonderful hosts. There was nothing they wouldn't do for us. Very quick to respond and gave great local advice! The home was perfect for families and children and had lots of great personal touches. We had a fabulous time in a wonderful location!

    Lynsey2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great and relaxing stay! Would recommend bringing a car if you are able just for ease of reaching the cottage, but the walks around are lovely and it was a gorgeous hideaway for a few days. Pam and her partner were delightful. Very cute ducks and great to have the hot tub especially when it's super chilly outside... highly recommend!

    Jessica2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the cottage was fab! I loved waking up to the ducks and lovely views every day, there was a nice wee fresh rose on the table, hot tub fairy lights and heating all on ready for us arriving - it was so cute and cosy and Pam and her husband are so helpful and lovely. Thank you so much for a great weekend x

    Courtney2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Pam’s cottage. The space was wonderful, very peaceful and private. The cottage was immaculate when we arrived and had all the amenities we needed. Pam and her husband were great hosts and replied to all of our queries very quickly. Once the hot tub needed a filter change, they responded immediately and fixed it straight away. Would absolutely recommend this cottage. We were two couples with a dog but I can imagine it would also be great for families.

    Jessica2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great location! Quick to help with any queries which we had.

  • We arrived to a very friendly reception. The cottage was decorated for Xmas and some Xmas treats had been left for us which was a lovely surprise. The cottage is cosy. Everything you need in a kitchen. Hot tub is a wonderful way to relax after a day out. The fairy garden is so cute.

  • Spacious, clean lodge, ideal location for travelling around Edinburgh and surrounding towns.

    Michelle2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • This lodge is just wonderful! Myself and 4 friends stayed here for 3 nights and we couldn’t have picked a better place. We all live in different cities around Scotland and so this was an ideal location for us all to get to. The lodge was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed. The wood burner was a lovely feature and made the lodge feel extra cosy, once we got to grips with starting the fire. And of course the hot tub was also another one of our favourite features. Pam and her husband were so helpful and quick to respond to any queries we had. Would definitely recommend and would love to stay again. Thanks!

  • The photographs don't do the lodge justice. The lodge is beautiful and absoloutely spotless with just about every amenity you'd possibly want. Hot tub was great and the farm itself was a lovely place with lots of cute animals to look at. Pam and her husband were a joy to meet.

We recommend Wilson as a guest.

The Arches provides luxury light-filled accommodation for six people in the converted stables of a 16th century farm, offering both a beautiful rural escape, and a base within easy reach of central Edinburgh. Gorebridge station is just 5 minutes away by car, with regular trains right into the centre of Edinburgh- ideal for the Festival or Hogmanay. Set in the hidden beauty of Borthwick valley with stunning views of nearby Borthwick Castle, a scenic location for the recent movie Outlaw King.
In a converted stables with floor-to-ceiling arched windows facing west, The Arches provides light airy high-quality accommodation for 6 people. Relax with a high-spec shower room, quality wooden floors, a spacious kitchen, and the large light lounge downstairs- kept cosy with central heating and double glazing throughout. The beautiful oak staircase leads up to a light airy upstairs hall connecting three beautifully appointed double bedrooms, one en-suite, and a shared family bathroom with bath. Beautiful fitted wardrobes provide excellent storage space, and travel cot and high chair are provided. An extra single bed can be fitted beneath the stairs in the lounge- so please enquire if you might need that option.
The immediate area has the feel of a valley lost in time- the 15th Century Borthwick Castle stands 200 metres from the farmhouse, with the mark of Cromwell's cannonballs etched into the wall from the failed 1650 siege. Visited by Mary Queen Of Scots, the dramatic sense of history creates a rare atmosphere, captured in the film Outlaw King. The wider area has loads to do- beautiful walks, distilleries, ancient Yew trees, castles, walled gardens, and Fala Moor- site of the old Herbal Hospital. Be wowed at Jupiter Art Land, entertain kids at East Links Family Farm, or choose between Mid and East Lothian's wide range of golf courses and numerous stunning beaches about 30-40 minutes by car. Then head into town to enjoy the huge range of cultural, historic and architectural attractions of Edinburgh, with great shopping and restaurants to boot.
  • Amazing place to stay !!!!! Couldnt recommend this location highly enough. Best of both worlds. Close to Edinbrugh via the train or car and in the beautiful countryside of Scotland. The house was super clean, great showers and kitchen facilities. Phil was a wonderful host and would highly recommend to any group.

  • We (2 adults and 2 kids under 2.5) stayed at the Arches following a party at the nearby Borthwick Castle. Phil and his family are lovely and super helpful. Their property is spacious, clean, warm and welcoming. It was exactly what we needed. The properly an easy drive from Edinburgh and we left wishing we had been able to stay longer. We would definitely recommend staying here!

    Kirsten2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • The place was impeccably clean, communication to reach the place was perfect. Phil and his family were great hosts. I would be definitely be staying there again and recommend. Kitchen was well equipped. Wi-Fi worked well. Beds were comfortable. The place is large and was impeccably clean.

    Amit2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful county setting with stunning views of the Borthwick Castle. We chose this house for its proximity and views of the castle and we were not disappointed. Phil and Jude went above and beyond to help make our stay special. Seven of us slept comfortably in the house and we had everything we needed for preparing meals. We took nice hikes to the 2 castles in the area as well as a full day tour to the Cliffs of Moher during our stay. A local taxi company provided an 8 seater van for easy transportation into Edinburgh and the airport. You are also just minutes away from the train station into Edinburgh as well. A thoroughly exceptional experience for our group! I highly recommend this home for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get to experience the peace, quiet, and beauty of the Scottish countryside but still be close enough to the city to enjoy what it offers.

  • Anne is a truly incredible host! My wife and I were there for a wedding at Dalhousie castle, and we arrived by train with no car. Anne was kind enough to pick us up from the train station, drive us to the wedding, and drop us back at the train station the day after. While it would be much, much easier with a car, there is a large grocery store about a 40 min walk away and the Sun Inn for meals and a pub about a 15 minute walk away. The castle is also very walkable. All these walks are on narrow sidewalks, but we encountered few cars while walking and felt very safe. The space itself is bright (when sunny out), spacious, and very comfortable. We wish we were there in the summer, as the conservatory space looks incredible for lounging in. Even while inside, though, we were plenty comfortable. Just to reiterate--Anne is a great host. We truly appreciate her hospitality. She has a fun personality and is very kind and generous.

  • This cottage is absolutely superb. The attention to detail for our comfort was wonderful. The bed was really lovely with beautifully fresh linen on it, nice big towels and a power shower. Lovely and cosy and a beautiful setting. Anne was the most wonderful host and even dropped us to our venue nearby. We were lovely and warm and couldn't have wished for a nicer host. No problem getting on wifi. We would highly recommend this superb airbnb location.

The kitchen has a breakfast table, large Miele fridge freezer, washing machine and everything guests need for their stay.
The property offers easy access to the city bypass, making it a perfect location to explore slightly further afield. There is a private garden and access to off-street parking. However, there is plenty of free on-street parking directly outside.
The property is situated just 3 miles south of the Edinburgh bypass, which makes it an ideal base for exploring Edinburgh too. Edinburgh city centre can be reached in about 30 minutes drive, less on a the train, more on the bus. For those travelling for work, the ample parking and easy access to the bypass makes it a great budget option, sleeping 4 in single beds. There is a large Tesco at the Eskbank roundabout less than 2 miles north. The famous country pub, The Sun Inn is less than 20 minutes walk or less than 1 mile in the car. For the kids, there is the fantastic Ryze trampoline park less than a mile away. Dobbies is next to the bypass and kids will be enchanted by Edinburgh Butterfly and Insect Park , next to Dobbies. There are plenty of pay and play golf courses and driving ranges. Families will also be fascinated by the National Museum of Mining, just a short trip (1 mile) away.

My Space is located in Midlothian which is just on the outskirts of Edinburgh. It’s in a small town (Bonnyrigg) which has local amenities including local Tesco shop and co-op, a few bars and restaurants also. There are 2 bus routes from Bonnyrigg into Edinburgh city centre which run every 10mins and are located less that 5min walk from the property. There is even a night bus that will bring you back into Bonnyrigg until the early hours! The flat is small and cosy and fit for 2 adults.
Guest can use the entire place!

The town is small but has everything you could need to enjoy your stay. If your a keen golfer we have two golf courses close by. There are two Buses from the town which take you directly into Edinburgh city centre and they run every 10 minutes. The access into Edinburgh is incredibly easy and efficient. If you have a car, you may want explore the area a little more in depth and Bonnyrigg is close to many lovely parts. It is located just of the A7 road which takes you into through the Scottish Borders and the many quaint little towns it hosts. Midlothian is also located next to East Lothian which is on the coast and is home to many beautiful beaches, golf courses and an abundance of cute little shops in which you will find plenty nice trinkets to take home. Scotland is a special place. You’ll enjoy your time here and hopefully if you choose my space, I can help you get the most from your stay.

  • Awesome place with all the comforts provided. Very cozy, beautifully decorated, and at a wonderful location. Everything was very clean, tidy and smelled great. Katie provided us with breakfast, coffee and tea. It was an amazing experience, and we would totally stay at her place again.

  • The flat was immaculate & has everything you need for a few days stay! Katie contacted us prior to our stay regarding which breakfast items we would like, which we thought was a nice touch. Bonnyrigg is a lovely town with lots to offer! Tesco & McDonald's 2 minutes drive down the road which was handy. Also would recommend if you stay here to try Gigi's Italian down the road! Yummy! Edinburgh was only a 20 minute drive away or 30 minutes on the bus! We did both types of transport & was easy! Thanks again Katie for letting us stay in your flat Beth & Matt
