Places to stay in Headcorn
Set in private grounds of 18 acres and surrounded by woods and wildlife, Gamekeeper's Cottage offers a peaceful and tranquil setting which is perfect for getting away from it all. Sissinghurst Castle and its famous gardens are only a 15 minute walk away by public footpath and London is one hour by train. The cottage dates from 1798 and was originally the gamekeeper's larder to the main house, which sits directly opposite the cottage. The wood burner makes it a cosy and romantic getaway.
This charming cottage is over 200 years old and has been beautifully restored, retaining many of its original features, including the wooden beams. A very large window provides great views to the gardens, large pond and impressive trees beyond. The wood burner is a favourite feature of our guests, providing warmth and a cosy atmosphere. All wood and kindling is provided. There are also electric heaters for those who don't want to light a fire. The comfortable double bed is on a mezzanine level accessed by a steepish staircase. There is a sofa bed in the sitting area. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and sink. The kitchen area has recently been refurbished. Sissinghurst Castle and its world renowned gardens is only a short walk away by public footpath, through enchanting woods. The property adjoins the Sissinghust Castle Estate so all you need to do is walk to the top of the drive, cross the road and you are immediately in the grounds of Sissinghurst Castle - the Castle itself is about 15 minutes walk away. Gamekeeper's Cottage provides a great retreat at all times of year. In autumn and winter it is cosy and atmospheric, with the roaring fire and wonderful crisp walks on your doorstep. Spring and summer are spectacular, with the "Garden of England", as Kent is known, blossoming and coming to life. Bluebell season, which is usually in May, is a particular favourite, with carpets of bluebells in the woods. The local wildlife is plentiful. As well as the resident ducks and chickens, there are many badgers, foxes and deer in the woodlands surrounding the cottage. In the dead of night you will hear the owls hooting and the dawn chorus of the numerous birds will greet you at day break. The area has many excellent pubs, some of which are over 500 years old. They all serve very good food and first class local beer. The Milkhouse in Sissinghurst and the Three Chimneys in Biddenden are both one mile away. There are many other National Trust properties nearby, including Castles, stately homes and gardens. The charming village of Cranbrook is 3 miles away and the Cinque port of Rye, with the golden sands of Camber, 30 minutes by car. London is one hour away by train and Canterbury one hour. There are many beautiful walks in the immediate vicinity, many of which can be started from the cottage itself.
  • Loved our visit to Ashford, Kent. The whole area is stunning and loads of things to do in the area. Especially worth the national trust membership and seeing all the local gardens and castles. Some of the local pubs are well worth a visit too.

  • We loved the beautiful and quiet situation with delightful views from the large, picture window. The space was well equipped to a good standard, cosy and warm with the welcomed option of the wood burning stove. Lovely walks on the doorstep and good food, wine and beer close by in historic country pubs. We'd definitely come back.

  • Fabulous cottage with a lovely setting. Super cosy once the wood burner is on! It has everything you need for making breakfast and dinner. The hosts are excellent and very accommodating. The local area / roads are great for cycling! Also - would recommend doing the wine tasting at the Chapel Downs Winery which is close by.

  • We had a perfect stay at the lodge. We stayed for two nights for a quiet weekend in the country and were not disappointed! David and Henrietta were quick and easy to communicate with and provided so much helpful information regarding travel, food, local attractions and of course the accommodation. They threw in lots of extra touches to make us feel at home and were super helpful. A lovely weekend!

  • Lovely, cosy cottage in great location. We stayed here for two nights, spending a day at the nearby Sissinghurst Castle and then a local pub in the evening. Would definitely stay again

  • Great place to stay

  • Great location and an amazing house - huge and warren-like, our toddlers loved it, especially the garden and thoughtful touches like toys and books. Extremely well provided with everything you might need (kitchen equipment and ingredients, books, towels, toilet paper etc). Gus was super responsive and helpful. You really do have to watch out for those low beams though! And bring earplugs if you’re sensitive as it’s next to a road which is fairly busy, although not all night long. A great stay, we would definitely come back.

    Rose2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great house. Quirky and beautiful. Plenty of room for cooking and entertaining. . The garden is great for kids. We had a wonderful stay

    Thomas2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay. We were three couples with 5 babies/toddlers. Most importantly the walls are nice and thick so sound didn't carry from room to room at night. The house is really special and actually a lot nicer than the photos make out. Big garden, big kitchen with room for all of us to cook and dine, lots of cosy lounge spaces. Unlike many airbnbs there were plenty of household items available which made our stay easier e.g. lots of spices, pots and pans etc. The village is also nice with a few cafes and pubs, and a playground. Also plenty of good places to visit nearby.

    Kieran2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Our extended family had an amazing weekend at this wonderful house in Headcorn. It’s full of nooks and seating areas so we didn’t get on top of one another. There were plenty of kitchen utensils, plates etc for us all. The children piled onto the zipwire and tree house and loved playing hide and seek around the house. The kids loved the bunk bed room with door leading straight to the garden and their own sitting room and dining table – it was like their self-contained flat! The house is so full of character – luckily most of us are under 6 foot and there are only a few low doorways that bothered us. Also we were lucky with the weather and spent a lot of time outdoors in the fantastic garden. There’s a lovely, friendly pub just a few doors down the High St which did a Sunday great roast. The high street is full of cute shops, cafes and antiques market, and a brilliant Foodies deli further down the road. Thanks so much to Gus for his quick responses and for positively encouraging us to invite a few people over from London to join in the fun – Gus recommended a lovely B and B nearby for our guests to stay in. We didn’t need the hot tub – the garden and comfy seating areas were good enough to keep everyone happy. Hope to be back for another family gathering one day!

    Tania2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing house! The architecture is quirky to say the least! Higgledy piggledy rooms with loads of character. Great to have the brief history typed out for us. Lovely big garden with zip wire that our 9yr old twin grandsons loved. Plenty of room for ten of us plus 8 month old twin granddaughters. Plenty of cooking equipment; could have done with a few more plates and mugs but we managed. Great for seeing the local area; a real must is Mote Park. Shame that the hot tub wasn’t available as we were really looking forward to evenings chillin’. Gus did explain that it had been misused so taken away, unfortunately we didn’t know that until a day or so before we went. Overall a great holiday home. Thanks Gus.

  • The most beautiful place I’ve stayed on air BnB. Such a friendly and wonderful host who added such beautiful touches. A really caring lady who has an outstanding place to stay. Me and my doggies loved it. Every little touch is just perfect. The biggest help is the gate from the kitchen to the living area, it’s so thoughtful means muddy paws can be cleaned before excited dogs explore ! It’s perfect. 100% want to be back

  • Words are not enough to describe this amazing place. 5 stars but I would double, triple it. We stayed for 1 night, 2 adults and 2 children, and now looking forward to booking another stay for a longer period. 100% retreat. Accommodation is in perfect condition, stylish with everything you would need for a relaxed time away from home. Communication with Elenor was faultless. Really quick, efficient and we also got a special treat. Thank you very much!

  • Elenor is a great host and very helpful. Her house is very clean and well equiped. She is courteous and helpful. We had our baby and dog staying with us. Elenor made sure we hat a babycot and bowls for the dog. Amazing kitchen and lovely bedroom, the whole cottage is beautiful. The ceiling in the shower is a little low so you can not stand up straight. Parking is available just outside the house.

  • What a place to stay!! Stylish place, very nice touches like fresh daffodills :) Enjoyed staying at Cabin a lot! Catherine is very nice host, gave us some breakfast essentials. When you lay in the double bed upstairs you can admire stars in the sky, also chest of drawers have decorative knobs :) Towels very very soft, enjoyed every moment of our stay. Would highly recommend!

    Greg2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed over a long weekend for two nights and it was such a relief and stress free experience especially if you come from the city. Easily accessible though a car or taxi would be needed. We went for dinner st the Milk House pub which was terrific less than 10 minutes away driving. We also went to the Hush Heath Vineyard which was an amazing and tasteful experience less than 20 minutes driving. On a clear night you can see the stars laying from the bed due to the sky lights. We decided to cook one of the other nights and the kitchen has everything you could need for doing that! All in all a pleasant stay in the Kent countryside which may surprise you.

The place was really well designed and set up. The hosts were very considerate and welcoming. The location was perfect. • Such a beautiful and cosy home, perfect for two. We enjoyed a lovely stay, in the heart of a beautiful village and Liz was very kind and helpful. I couldn’t recommend the place highly enough- my only regret is that we didn’t stay longer. Thank you!

  • We really enjoyed our stay - the annexe was very clean and beautifully furnished. The bed was extremely comfy and the bathroom was a great size with lots of thoughtful touches like spare toiletries. The property is a nice walking distance to Sissinghurst Castle; we would definitely recommend staying here.

  • A lovely little home in a very beautiful part of the country. Sparkling clean and full of thoughtful touches like spare toothbrushes, just in case, and Christmas toilet paper. I can't recommend it enough.

  • This place is definitely one to stay at! We had a lovely weekend here, it’s much bigger than it looks on the pictures - lots of space and perfect for a weekend away. Liz was a great host and we’d love to come back!

    Martha2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • A relaxing, comfortable stay on a beautiful property. Liz is extremely thoughtful and has gone the extra mile as a host with finishing touches such as Christmas toilet roll! We loved the cleanliness, the space and layout of the property and the smart colours. The bed is huge, and very comfy with warm feather duvet! The shower and bath are also a great size and the kitchen is well equipped and modern.

Tiny cabin built on the edge of the woods that are part of Welsummer Camping. With its own backyard view into the woods, wood burning stove, campfire area and hammock.
*Special information - March 2020* Currently 2 adults only. Kitchenette not accessible. Bathroom for guests use only, 5 days minimum gap between guests, with cleaning and linen change on day 3. Please bring supplies from your home and avoid using local shops and services if possible while you are here or on your journey. 2 day maximum stay. Self check in and out - zero face to face contact. Stay safe ❤️ Wendy’s house is tucked into a corner on our beautiful campsite just on the edge of the woods that adjoins our gardens. Wendy’s house is around 17 sqm inside separated into two adjoining spaces. One comprises an antique iron, double (130cm) bed with comfortable mattress and warm clean bedding. The other space offers a single bed, the wood burner and a table. Warm your space with the little wood burner on which you can pop a kettle or warm some soup. A cupboard filled with dining and outdoor cooking gear and a dining table completes the basics necessary for a practical stay. We can provide a bbq grill and camping gas stove for your convenience. We are working towards an Off Grid solution but a small radiator, lamp and USB plug can be switched on in winter to help you feel cosy and connected. There are also battery lamps. There are 4 windows and a back door to the woodland balcony. The campsite bubbles with families and laughter during the busy holidays and settles down to complete peace on weekdays. Out of season ( Oct - march), when there are no campers, share the space only with the pheasants and the local wildlife as well as us and the family pottering around on one project or another. The facilities (Loos showers washing up, hammock deck, kitchen and covered lounge) are just 20 metres from the cabin. The space behind the cabin offers an area for outdoor cooking and dining with a great view into the woodland from the rocking chair on the little balcony. The property is around 7 acres including meadow woods and orchard and you are welcome to discover and relax in any of the areas open to campers. There is a covered shelter and lounge outside reception where you can charge a device, catch up on necessary work, use the fridge or purchase hot and cold drinks. During winter you can use the small kitchenette which houses our wood burner, and which has a kettle, coffee machine and toaster. Please note there is no Wi-fi but 4g networks are mostly good. Main parking is in the field away from the car free spaces but most of the time there is a space just behind the cabin to park your car if you don’t mind looking at it! It is also a good place to unload your stuff. Firewood for the campfire is not included but can be purchased on site. Firewood for the inside wood burner in is included in winter only. Extras to be booked with us at least two days in advance: Home cooked dinner - Delivered to your cabin at a time of your choice. Choose from curry or couscous £22 for two, or burritos £16 for two. All meals vegetarian. Vegan is no problem too, just let me know. Relaxing or healing foot bath. In the comfort of your cabin, with essential oils to suit the moment or personalised with home grown herbs to soothe your ailments. Towels included. £18.
When the campsite is open there is a lovely community feel and a great atmosphere as campfires are lit and feasts are prepared. At busy times chatter lasts into the evening but we try and keep noise low after 10.30 at night. At other times nature cradles our little spot on top of the hill and you can feel really protected by the surrounding trees. We are close to civilisation however and shops and pubs are a 10 minute drive at the most. The Pepperbox inn, a great pub with great food is a 20 minute walk across the footpaths. There is direct access from the woods to the greensand way offering miles of footpath walks across a beautiful ridge just opposite the North downs one way and overlooking the Weald of Kent southwards. Lenham village is a 10 minute drive, and you will find here a medieval village with a small selection of pubs cafes and shops. Leeds castle is a major feature of the area at about 10 minute drive. Wendy’s house is a great place to stay if you are visiting for one of their special events such as the classical concerts or fireworks, but is also a really great day out for visiting the castle and beautiful grounds.
  • Recomend that for a weekend away from the city!

    Dadon2020-03-08T00:00:00Z

  • Great Location and Super Hosts!

    Martyn2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived exhausted after a 7 hour walk, as dark was falling... to find a kettle whistling on wood burning stove. So very welcome.

    Clio2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great 3 day stay for our anniversary hear and would highly recommend the cabin. We stayed here in winter and were expecting it to be rather cold but were able to keep the cabin nice and toasty with the log burner. Theres a fire pit just outside too where we cooked on open fire which was the highlight of the off-grid experience.

    Charles2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing little cabin on the edge of a woodlands, for us visiting in Feb we were one of two couples on the site. The log fire and been started so that the cabin was warm for our late arrival. Communication was excellent from the moment we booked and just what we needed for an escape from the city. Very quiet. Was great for some night time photography also. Will definitely be back!

    Steven Barrie2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place to stay! Truly nature, off the grid experience and Laura and her family were such wonderful hosts! Living a truly inspiring life in the nature and it’s amazing that they shared it with us for a brief moment :) Thank you and I am sure we will meet again :) Aiste and Jason

    Aiste2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Laura’s place is an absolute gem!! We stayed for New Year’s Eve and it was surprisingly warm and cosy with the log burner on and the outdoor fire was so lovely under the stars. Really nice area with kitchen stuff and toilet/shower you have everything you need but also feel detached enough for the off grid experience! Such a great place will definitely be back. And my little dog loved it too! 10 out of 10!

The bedroom is spacious with a king sized bed, reclining chair and stool, a desk and plenty of storage. There is a fridge with fresh milk and an impressive selection of coffees, fully stocked bathroom and lots of extra provisions including toothbrushes and ibuprofen. We’ve never seen that before. Needless to say it was exceptionally clean. • We stayed for just the one night at Susie's place. The ensuite room was accessed through the main house, and there were plenty of parking spaces nearby. It was quiet, clean and very comfortable and Susie was very attentive and kind. There was even a breakfast and you can enjoy the lovely view over the lovely Kent countryside. Nearby there are some good looking pubs (sadly we did not have time to frequent them). All in all we can highly recommend Susie's place.

  • Susie and her family are amazing hosts and the room is spotless. Very comfortable bed and great amenities. The garden has the most spectacular views which you would never get bored of looking at. I stayed there while I was volunteering for the open days at The Big Cat Sanctuary and it was only a 10 minutedrive away. I would definitely recommend staying here and booked in already to return in a few weeks time.

  • Absolutely loved our stay at The Stable. Helen was a lovely host and always on hand if we needed her! The Stable was perfect for us as a couple and it was lovely to wake up and watch the birds in the fields behind. The local town was no more than a 10 minute walk away and Tom and Helen had loads of fabulous restaurants and local amenities recommended. The small touches of milk, juice, bread and cereal really made our stay lovely. Would recommended Tom and Helens cottage to anyone looking for a short getaway.

It is located in a quiet area of Kent and close to lots of great places for food. Helen and Tom were polite, helpful and friendly. They were quick to respond and a pleasure to deal with. We highly recommend this place!

  • Great little getaway. Everything very clean and super easy to use. Wonderful to have a little loaf and some milk already in the fridge for us. Thank you! Definitely need a car to get around. Local pubs are lovely within a 10 minute drive. Beware the closest walking distance pub is not the nicest and has some dodgy reviews on Google Maps.

  • Stacy’s place was absolutely lovely! I booked it for my mother to use, and she had an amazing weekend. Stacy met us at the gate when we had trouble finding it, coming over to greet us both (despite it being late in the evening!), and through the entire process was very communicative. The house itself was well cared for, spacious (we managed to fit in the crate that our two huskies stay in while we nip out anywhere!) and had plenty of essentials. At night, when lit up, it looked beautiful! We didn’t travel too much to the local sights, but once we found the house it was easy to travel through to Headcorn, Biddenden, etc. A perfect stay! I definitely recommend!

    Beth2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is very remote there are dogs and cats, a small pond and nature. Maybe it is a bit too natural, but we liked it a lot. London and Dover are day trips, otherwise all rural, almost lonely. We wondered about the roaring of a lion from afar, but there is at least one big cat farm nearby. The holiday home was very nice, thoughtful. Just right for a few days stopover or rest.

    Axel2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Time away from the stress of work/life. Peaceful, calm, pretty. Host was wonderful. Home from home. Absolutely and truly a retreat.

The Hopper’s Room is en suite and is a lovely old building with a vaulted oak framed ceiling. We are situated in a lovely rural spot yet close to many special places to visit. To name but a few; Sissinghurst Gardens Chapeldown Vinyard Bedgebury Leeds Castle Bodiam Castle Tenterden
It has its own en-suite shower room and a King Size bed and also has an outlook onto The Orchard. Relax in bed and watch the HD TV or take advantage of the complementary Wi-Fi. The building is self contained and not part of the main house so guests are able to come an go as they please. POLITE NOTE. This is not suitable as a family room.
Our home "Wilderness" is set in the heart of the Weald of Kent, with its scattered farms and idyllic villages. Close to the quiet village of Headcorn we are also within a short distance of Tenterden, Cranbook and Sissinghurst Castle one of the most famous gardens in England, shown in the photo below. This 15th-century former farmhouse is from days when the owner would hang flags from the top floor to tell the local farmers to take their cattle to higher ground if heavy rain was coming! All the rooms are self contained and located in the garden, The Orchard and Hopper’s Rooms being in converted outbuildings offering bright and relaxing accommodation. The Shepherd’s Hut…well is a Shepherd’s Hut but we are sure you will find it comfortable being carefully designed based on original 18th century drawings and having a log burner to enjoy in the evenings. A hearty cooked or continental breakfast is served daily in the light and airy breakfast room which overlooks the gardens. Please note on Mondays we provide a continental breakfast in a hamper to take in your room. Broadband internet access is available through a wireless network connection in each room. • We had a lovely stay! Our 2 boys slept on the sofa bed which they found really comfy and there was plenty of space and a well equipped kitchen. There wasn’t any door on the en-suite bathroom so you could hear if someone needed a wee in the night (!) but this wasn’t a problem for us as a family.

    Charly2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Leigh-Ann’s. Despite Storm Dennis the space was a really cosy, yet stylish place to hide away from the weather. Leigh-Ann was a great host and we really appreciated her hospitality and welcoming touches. The recommendations for local pubs were spot on too!

  • Beautiful little spot in the countryside. Just the perfect spot for my wife and I for a little getaway. Monique's instructions and help was invaluable, a wonderful host. Would definitely stay again.

  • The Apple Store is an excellently situated to explore Kent, and very well stocked for a short getaway! A really lovely place to stay!

    Roberto2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I are seasoned international travelers with decades of adventurers around much of the world. We do have a clue about excellent travel value for the experience and the costs involved. If you are coming to Kent this is it. Enough said. The best of the “Tiny House” concept;; a fabulous host/hostess; clean; and the cottage contains all your need “X” the food! You can not do better. A happy Donna and Doug Burbank

  • Spent the weekend here, absolutely loved our visit. The place was immaculately clean, well designed and the perfect size. We visited the local winery (15minute walk) and go ape (20minute drive). Monique was always very quick to respond and provided a lot of helpful local information. We would highly recommend!

    Cameron2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The apple store is a lovely place. Very clean, with excellent facilities - good shower, everything in the kitchen was good, place was warm and cosy on a very chilly night outside.

  • Fantastic, modern space with charm and character. Highly recommended ☆☆☆☆☆

    Michael 2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my wife spent three nights in Monique's wonderful place. We have been using Air B&B for a number of years now, and this is definitely one of the best places we stayed in. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, there was real attention to detail in the decoration, and for two people it felt spacious and luxurious. Monique was quick to communicate and answered all our questions, and check-in and out was very easy. There's plenty to do - nice walks, lovely pubs (we highly recommend The Milk House in Sissinghurst), National Trust and other historic places, but it's also a fantastic place to hole-up and escape the noisy world for a few days. Highly recommended!

    Martin2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We highly recommend Monique's place. The cottage is sparkling clean, the bed is very comfortable, and the kitchen is well equipped. The location was nice and quiet whilst being a short drive from my relatives, who we were visiting over Christmas. Monique was an incredibly gracious host - On Christmas day we realised we hadn't packed flour to thicken a sauce we were making and she kindly let us borrow some.

Hadman place is a 16thC Wealden Hall house, it has many exposed oak timbers and inglenook fireplaces. It is located on the fringes of one of the most well-kept and historic Villages in England. Smarden has a friendly community spirit as well as three welcoming Country Inns. Other local places of interest are Leeds, Scotney and Bodium Castles, Bedgebury Pinetum, Sissinghurst Gardens and Chart Hills golf course plus the Cinque ports are all reachable within the hour.
You will have exclusive use of the annex with private entrance via a keypad entry system and off street parking. Outside there is a patio seating area with gas bar-b-que. We have three friendly donkeys in our adjacent paddocks so only well behaved dogs can be accommodated.
Whilst Hadman Place is rurally sited the village of Headcorn, with its mainline railway station and selection of shops for every day needs, is only 2 miles away. The market town of Tenterden offers a larger variety of Shops and restaurant’s plus leisure centre and renowned steam railway.
  • A lovely place to stay, great hosts, we could have happily lived there. Will definitely stay again, fantastic.

    Mel2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • We were very pleased with everything about our stay in this comfortable and picturesque setting. The hosts were attentive without being intrusive. Having the fire lit for when we arrived and leaving ample breakfast food and toiletries were lovely touches. We had a lovely time in the area - Smarden is a lovely little village and we’d recommend the chequers inn for dinner. Lots of castles and walks nearby too. The donkeys were beautiful and friendly and seemed pleased to see us whenever we came home. Thank you very much Toni & Gary!

    Laura2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Toni & Gary are superb hosts, we were lucky enough to be their first guests and boy were we glad to be. We celebrated Rachael’s birthday there and what better way to do that than to sample true 15th century English history. The beautiful annexe has ample space and is suitably equipped for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed so much generosity and friendliness from Toni and Gary and we would certainly pay ‘em another visit (and then ...recommend their place to everyone else -essentially we want to keep it a secret but that’s a bit meh ;) Once you’ve got acquainted with Deidre (the donkey) and her two boys, there is surprisingly quite a lot to see and do in the area especially with a big cat sanctuary (limited admissions), award winning vineyards, steam train, pubs all dotted about within very quaint and peaceful villages of Kent.

We live in a newly refurbished, detached house with its own parking in the beautiful village of Headcorn, in the 'Weald' of Kent - 'the garden of England'. Headcorn is a quintessential Kentish village with the bonus of excellent rail and road links to London, Ashford, with its Eurostar station, Maidstone and Canterbury. The bathroom is shared with one other person.
Double bedroom with en-suite for £30 per night in a large detached house with garden close to the high street, railway station and bus stops. Park, recreation ground and many cycle and walking routes nearby.
Headcorn has a railway station that is only an hour from London and a half-hour drive from Ashford, with its Eurostar station, and Maidstone. Canterbury is 40 minutes by car or direct train. The village also hosts Headcorn Aerodrome, which offers flights in Spitfire fighter planes, together with wing-walking and parachute jumps. Leeds Castle and Sissinghurst Castle are both a 15-minute drive away. Twice a year, in the spring and summer, Headcorn is home to the Small World Festival. The village is only 7 miles from both Leeds Castle and Sissinghurst Castle and there are many more castles less than an hour away by car, including Dover, Hever, Scotney, Rochester and Chilham. Headcorn has a selection of pubs where you can sample the local beers, take part in quizzes and hear local musicians play, restaurants and tea rooms, as well as a well-stocked high street, with a Sainsbury's, a Costa café and all the local shops you could wish for. Headcorn has a library and tennis, football and cricket clubs, as well as horse-riding facilities and is also home to the Weald of Kent Golf Course. Swimming is available at the beautiful nearby town of Tenterden, which also has a large number of historical buildings, a steam railway and three museums, including Smallhythe Place, devoted to the life and career of Ellen Terry, the leading Shakespearean actress of the Victorian era. Tenterden's high street is full of interesting and specialist shops, pubs and restaurants. There are also two vineyards locally, which offer guided tours. • Couldn’t have been better! We just loved every minute of our visit. The barn was absolutely beautiful and equipped with everything we needed (and lots of lovely added touches). Hannah was so very kind, helpful and made us feel so welcome. If you are reading this and trying to find a lovely, romantic spot nestled in the Kent countryside away from the hubbub then this is the place for you! We are already planning our next trip back!

  • Joe and Hannah’s barn is perfect in every way. It is beautifully clean , had absolutely everything we needed, the toiletries were a lovely touch , the television and games were great. We had so much fun cooking , enjoying each other , snuggling down on the sofa and just relaxing we really did. We had a very comfortable sleep awoken having coffee and tea whilst watching the sheep in the orchard in the morning and lovely hot showers before we left to finish. It was really the revitalise we needed so beautifully done in gorgeous surroundings. We will definitely be back.

  • My partner and I stayed at The Hop Barn for New Years’ Eve. It is a beautiful, peaceful and stylish air Bnb in a lovely rural setting. The hosts were excellent and left many thoughtful touches, including fresh apple juice from the local orchard. Plenty of information on exploring the local area was available, which was very useful. The barn was sparkling clean, with beautiful furnishing and lovely heated flooring. The high beam ceilings in the kitchen & lounge area were also a delight. Would definitely return!

    Lucy2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful escape, well away from lifes stresses. The barn is beautiful inside and out, lovely and warm with underfloor heating, powerful hot shower, extremely comfy bed and fully kitted out kitchen area. One thing worth mentioning though, as to be somewhat expected with a countryside location, there is absolutely no phone signal inside the barn and the WiFi is almost unusable (0.28Mbps down 0.003Mbps up) so you wont be streaming films or music during your stay. Good opportunity for some old fashioned entertainment :) Joe and Hannah went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. I wouldnt think twice about booking again.

This is a cozy double room upstairs in the cottage with en suite integrated shower and toilet room. Near the M20/A20 but in the peaceful and lovely Kent downs, this is the perfect stopover on a journey or escape from the city. The pretty room has views of the cottage garden and our honey bees at work. There is a television, wifi and facilities for hot drinks and snacks. Guests from all backgrounds are welcome.
Our cottage is on our secluded smallholding where we keep chickens and bees and grow our own fruit and vegetables. It adjoins our small family campsite, Welsummer Camping. Guests can enjoy the gardens and footpaths which lead to local village pubs, Leeds Castle, the Kent Downs and the Pilgrims Way.
This is a rural neighbourhood. The property is settled on top of a hill just along the Greensand Way on a ridge overlooking the North Downs. The surrounding farmland is dotted with apple orchards, Kentish cobnuts and strawberries, woodlands and meadows. There are many public footpaths. Guests use public footpaths and self-guided walks to explore the area.
  • My parents stayed here en route to Dover - they reported an excellent room with thoughtful touches. The room was clean and comfortable, and Marj was hospitable. The directions and local tips were extensive and very helpful, enabling a stress free check in. Thank you very much - highly recommended

    Melanie2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely property, comfortable accommodations, and absolutely phenominal hosts, who have an amazing story and home. Wish time would have allowed us to stay longer. We were walking along the Pilgram's Way/North Downs Way- so if you are coming off the trail, it is about 1-2 miles outside of Lenham or Harrietsham. But it is definitely worth the excursion. Since we were walking the trail at the end of November Marjorie was very concerned with our getting there on time and gave us advice on walking the lesser roads so you can avoid the speed demons especially since dark comes at 4pm. The next day we stayed in a "posh" location which couldn't hold a candle to Marjorie's place for comfort, style, and value.

    Bruce2019-12-01T00:00:00Z

    Jessica2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Marjorie was extremely welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The space was stylishy and cleverly organised and we had fresh baked muffins and fruit from her garden for breakfast. We can highly recommend this place, together with its tranquil country setting.

Treat your self to a night in the countryside in a Shepherd's Hut. King side bed, log burner, high pressure shower and most importantly fridge for the white wine! Close to Sissinghurst Gardens, Great Dixter Gardens, Headcorn Aerodrome, Leeds Castle, Kent & East Sussex Railway, Tenterden, Cranbrook, Bodiam Castle, Smarden, Chapel Down, Biddenden Vineyards, National Trust Properties. 1 hour by train from Charing Cross. 5 mins taxi ride from Headcorn Station. Great Pubs. West House Restaurant.
Small (18ft x 6f 6 inches) but perfectly formed, Bramley, our Shepherd's Hut has been hand made by a local Kent craftsman in traditional style with its oak axles and metal wheels using original 19th century plans. No longer a humble hut for a shepherd during the lambing season it's been brought up to date though as it is fully insulated from the elements, has a mains connected shower, Wi-Fi and a fridge for your evening wine! Although it wasn't towed into position by a horse it hasn't lost its period charm as it has lovely tongue and grooved boarding throughout, a wooden shutter on the bed window and of course the obligatory wood burner! We hope you enjoy the spot we have chosen at the top of our Orchard with its outlook over neighbouring fields…and next to our favourite Bramley apple tree. If you want a more adventurous glamping visit to Wilderness and the Weald of Kent… The Shepherd's Hut is the place to stay. Enjoy the tranquility of our garden in the evenings. One for the glampers amongst you!
We are situated in a lovely rural spot yet close to many special places to visit. To name but a few; Walking distance to Headcorn aerodrome Sissinghurst Gardens Chapeldown Vinyard Bedgebury Leeds Castle Bodiam Castle Tenterden
  • Had a wonderful time great host highly recommend

  • Wow! I have to say this is the highest quality shepherds hut I've ever stayed in. Everything you need and all to a very high standard. The aspect of the hut is lovely and private and it's surrounded by old hedgerows, apple trees and birdsong. Facilities were excellent and plenty of hot water for 2 showers. Warm and cosy with a very comfortable bed. Would highly recommend. Also the complimentary flapjack went down a treat too!

    Kate2019-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • The shepherd's hut is so lovely and cosy, and really well equipped with everything you'd need. The BnB is in a very quiet part of Kent, so a very relaxing stay. The breakfast (extra) is delicious, and the gardens are beautiful. Overall, a really great spot for a chilled weekend, a few country walks and good pubs nearby for food. I would recommend having a car to get around.

    Jo2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely shepherds hut set at the end of a lovely garden/orchard. Cosy and clean. Log burner very efficient and kept us more than warm even though it was very cold outside. Lovely view across the fields. Very helpful and polite hosts - always accessible but left us to do our own thing at all times. Need a car or bikes to get around but very close to Headcorn and other surrounding villages. Plenty to do in the local area which kept us busy. Overall a lovely get away!

    Louise2019-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • Although Victoria was away, Claire made us feel very welcome and gave us all the information we needed. The breakfast was lovely and we have aready recommended this B&B to our friends!

Our home "Wilderness" is set in the heart of the Weald of Kent. Close to the quiet village of Headcorn we are also within a short distance of Tenterden, Cranbook and Sissinghurst. Two of our bedrooms are separate to the main house allowing maximum privacy.
The Annexe has been well loved by all who have visited. It is light and spacious at 350 sq ft (33 sq m) with high ceilings (a novelty for Kent houses!) and has a lovely outlook through three sets of French Doors onto our Apple and Pear Orchard and the surrounding fields. Not only does it have a Super King Size Bed but ample room to relax in its own seating area with huge and comfortable Edwardian armchairs and HD TV with FreeSat. There’s also a small fridge where we leave milk for tea and coffee for you. The large shower room is no less impressive having a walk in double size shower and full height glass brick tiled screen. The building is self contained and not part of the main house so guests are able to come and go as they please. Hopefully you can get a flavour from the photos but be assured guests have returned again and again! Ideal for longer stays. POLITE NOTE. This is not suitable as a family room.
Wilderness is set in the heart of the Weald of Kent, with its scattered farms and idyllic villages. Just ask for the key when you arrive. We are sure you will love your stay and find it a perfect base to explore our county and this corner of England.

Tucked behind the main house, Rookery Nook is a cosy retreat set on the outskirts of the pretty village of Sissinghurst. Renovated from an old farm building, it has been beautifully modernised to provide the perfect holiday home for couples wishing to explore the Garden of England. Within walking distance of the famous Sissinghurst Gardens and close to the towns of Cranbrook, Tenterden and Rye.
Rookery Nook has a fully equipped kitchen including a fridge, oven, washing machine, mini freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. Guests will be provided with a small welcome pack of essentials. In the main living area there is a lovely woodburner, a big comfy sofa, TV and DVD player. A bookcase offers plenty of reading material. There is a private, partially walled garden for guests use. First basket of logs provided. Parking is on the gravelled area by the side main house. NOTE: We can provide a z-bed for a younger child or there is room for a travel cot. The kingsize bed can be separated to make two single beds if required.
Sissinghurst boasts a wonderful pub - The Milk House - and a super village shop. Sissinghurst Castle and gardens are well worth a visit and there are several local vineyards, for example, Chapel Down, Hush Heath and Biddenden.
  • We had a really lovely, relaxing weekend at Rookery Nook. It's a delightful place, very cosy and rustic. Jane was a great hostess and we arrived to a lit fire and some delicious cake. We had a really enjoyable trip to Sissinghurst gardens and a delicious lunch at The Milk House. Highly recommend.

  • Rookery Nook is the perfect countryside cottage getaway. Jane and her husband were so welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Little touches around the house, essentials for breakfast and a homemade treat made our stay extra special. The cottage is equipped with everything you could need and more and is set amongst quaint villages and countless beautiful walks. We enjoyed every moment of our stay! 2 nights didn't feel long enough! Thank you!

  • My partner and I were both working Valentine’s Day, so booked a late valentines trip away. Rookery Nook went well beyond our expectations. The place is the perfect size for a couple, and being met with a lovely welcome and a cosy warm fire already lit for our arrival was the perfect start to our short trip away. The place had everything we needed, we cooked several meals and there was more than enough cooking utensils, and the addition of bread, gluten free brownie, milk etc was a lovely addition. The bathroom had lots of little bits in case anything was forgotten. The whole place was perfectly comfortable and cosy, and really nicely decorated We spent quite a bit of time curled up in front of the fire, playing board games on the coffee table. This was exactly what we both needed and 100% we want to come back.

  • Rookery Nook is such a gorgeous Airbnb and the perfect countryside getaway - roaring log fire, such a cosy lounge space, and generally just a lovely and very well designed space with lots of thoughtful touches. So many places to visit near by to explore in the heart of Kent. Jane liaised with my boyfriend (now fiancé!!!) and his sister to make our weekend more special than I ever imagined, and they’ve both told me that she was so helpful and kind. We couldn’t recommend RN more!

  • Rookery Nook is a warm, cosy and comfortable place and was perfect for a long weekend away. The house was clean and the bed was great. We loved the fire and the couch in the evenings. Jane is super fast with her communication and a thoughtful host. She is there if you need her but not in your face. It is the perfect base to visit all the National Trust properties in the area. We would love to stay again to continue exploring. Thank you for a lovely stay

  • A lovely little cottage with wonderful owners. Perfect for a winter weekend out of London. The kitchen and bathroom get a bit cold but the fire in the living room is lovely and makes for a very comfortable stay. I think next time we’ll stay when it’s warmer as the area looks like it will be beautiful in spring/summer

  • Rookery Nook is delightful. A roaring fire made it cosy and peaceful which is just what we were hoping for. It's conveniently located for exploring the area, very well appointed and very clean. There was everything we needed, and lovely little extra touches made us feel welcome and spoilt. I imagine it is lovely in the summer too with the table outside and views over the garden. Jane was an attentive but discrete host, who responded quickly to questions and then left us to our own devices. I would recommend this if you are looking to escape and unwind in lovely surroundings.

  • We had such a lovely stay in the cottage. Jane and Tony were lovely hosts and the communication was great leading up to our stay. Our favourite feature was the fireplace. I’m sure the place is lovely to visit in the summers too. Thank you for having us!
