Places to stay in Happy Camp

Places to stay in Happy Camp
The cozy studio is right above the beautiful flowing creek in the small town of Happy Camp. We are surrounded by Wilderness areas, a true nature adventure paradise. With loads of hiking, biking and river rafting. So many rare plants, birds, fish and animals. A trail-head retreat with creek side relaxation. Between Redwood N.P. the Pacific Coast-Crater Lake N.P., Caves NM, Mt Shasta, the Salmon, Smith, Scott, Klamath 'Wild and Scenic Rivers'. Summertime swimming is best july to October. Enjoy!
The creek side studio and sun patio are right above the flowing creek with a bench and a picnic table. The kitchenette has a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, hot plate and tea kettle. The bathroom is up a few steps past the shower area all close to nature with much bird and water song. Our home is above. It has a separate entrance and there is ladder access to get down to the creek. This space is not accessible for most disabilities as there are stairs and a ladder. If you want to have time to hike the local trails you really need two nights to have enough time to get out for the day.
The small town is great for getting supplies for adventuring in our amazing wild and scenic area, this is a great place to lay over on route to the redwoods, or Crater Lake.. Mt Shasta is another destination. In other words get out in the National Forest! Go on adventures. Arrange a raft trip, kayak, mountain biking. Or just walk and sit by a clear creek. Let nature sink in. Gas, Market, pizza, deli, post office, bank, auto parts, Karuk Tribe museum, Forest Service office. Small town.
  • The place is absolutely perfect. Art has all the best local tips and tricks on hiking. I also felt such a warm sense of community and trust with Art. Just be careful because the area puts a magical spell on you making it hard to leave!

  • We enjoyed staying at Art's place. Art was very hospitable and extremely helpful, and suggested we take our belongings from the studio when we went to the Redwoods the next day, in case of road closures and bad road conditions, and not being able to return. We're glad he advised us in this situation, or we would have been lost trying to come back in the evening. The listing is accurate, and very close to the creek and the outside bathroom is a cool experience.

  • Art's house is amazing. He's done great work building the downstairs himself. Highly recommended, especially in summer.

  • This was probably my favorite Airbnb experience so far. The home itself was comfy, cozy, and just big enough for us. It had everything we needed. The outdoor shower was amazing, too! Art and Lisa has breakfast stuff for us in the unit, and let us borrow a few extra things so we could cook dinner. They also gave us a hiking trail tip that was absolutely mind blowing. If Art suggests a spot, definitely follow his instructions - he does not steer you wrong!! We felt so lucky to experience their world and we can’t wait to come back again. :)

  • If you want a peaceful retreat this is it! The back decking and down to the creek is to die for, the photos dont do it enough justice. Its unbelievably beautiful, the sounds and smells, so relaxing! The outdoor shower is amazing! Art is very quick to reply and gives loads of advice on where to go that's near.

  • Awesome location! Loved the creek and Art was kind and very helpful.

    Lauren2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and comfortable space. Art was very friendly, knowledgable and interesting to talk to. Falling asleep to the creek at night was great. It was great value and I really enjoyed my time here. Highly recommend if you’re making your way through northern california

    Happy Camp, CA, United States

Approximately 260 sq ft, earth sheltered structure within our permaculture-based, sustainable, off-grid village. It is one of a kind in architecture and theme with colored bottles built into the wall, stained glass windows, center tree pillar with atrium windows above, and medieval Celtic Cross above the Hobbit Hole (outside and atop) give it a Hobbit Church feel.
This is a primitive cabin, it DOES have running water, but NO electricity (you bring your own candles BYOC). Common facilities (kitchen and bath) being shared with the larger community, about 200 yds away. *Just so everyone knows, during heavy rains in our RainForest winter months, sometimes the floor can get a little wet by the door. It doesn't really impede anything, but fyi. And understand, this is essentially a cave, so it can be damp in the winter. I recommend bringing an extra sleeping bag or borrow on of ours, OR bring some firewood (or you can use ours) as there is a wood stove inside next to the tempurpedic, round, Hobbit Love Nest Bed. Breakfast nook has a Hobbit mushroom table and there is a comfy sky chair suspended for luxuriating. Built into the side of a mountain with a seasonal spring (there are springs everywhere here in the mountainous rain forest) that runs through the house -- on purpose -- so there is often the sound of a babbling brook in the HH November thru May. If you are looking for a unique experience in a beautiful natural area and would like to experience life in an off-grid, sustainable, permaculture-focused ecovillage - and all the rough roads, dirt, mud, insects, messes, barking dogs, mosquitos, bees, mice, early morning roosters, communal living, composting toilets, ongoing construction projects in remote wilderness - then we invite you join us in our mountain village! Our property encompasses 160 acres of pristine natural wilderness in Northern California's beautiful Smith River canyon - home of the only un-dammed river in the state. Lush fern-encrusted hillsides slope down to countless spring-fed streams, teeming with wildlife, from cute caterpillars to (also cute, sometimes!) black bears. Accessible only by forestry road from scenic Redwoon Hwy (CA-199,) this is an opportunity to experience our responsible natural relationship with Mother Earth. This location is very beautiful and quite remote, so please be sure you've read through the full description and are prepared for certain elements of "roughing it" and adventure travel. The Village is also a work-in-progress so we are likely to be working and there may be construction, dirt, and messes around! Amenities: •Lighting / Electricity: Your cabin does not have electricity; we try to keep a flashlight, lantern, and/or candle available for your use -- but we recommend that you bring your own lights. •Kitchen: The outdoor kitchen, about 200yds away from the Hobbit Hole, has a small propane camping stove, and plenty of pots, pans, and utensils for your use. We do not have refrigeration but we do have a freezer (with ice packs) and coolers for storing food. •Bathrooms: We use composting toilets (buckets with seats); there is an indoor toilet in the bathhouse. Hot shower in the sauna/bathhouse. It is about 200 yds on average away from most of our cabins •(Lack of) Phone / Internet: Some Verizon and US Cellular service is available, but AT&T and T-Mobile do not service our area. We do not have wifi. The Great Outdoors: •Domestic animals: Between the three dogs who run around at night chasing forest creatures, springtime frog concerts, and the early-rising chickens, it is likely that there will be some animal noises occurring at unpredictable moments during the night and day. •Wild animals: There are various of these that live in the forest, including skunks, chipmunks, foxes, black bears, and many birds and insects. Since we have dogs and people around, the wild animals tend to keep their distance from the areas that we use. If you are lucky, you might spot a black bear on a hike; they are basically like big raccoons and prefer to run away from humans. If you are looking for a unique experience and up for rustic accommodations with a few off-grid perks, we welcome you to join us in our mountain paradise!
Our 160-acre property is surrounded by about a million acres of National Forest. Our neighborhood is all made of trees, huckleberry bushes and animals. We love it here. It is very remote, peaceful, and functionally sustainable in its focus. The closest neighbor is a Buddhist Hermitage about a mile up the forestry road. Also, supposedly, Sasquatch live here! (it is the epicenter for documented sightings) Most visitors to the area are interested in spending time in the redwoods – we are about 30-45 minutes from the nearest entrance to Jedediah Smith Park, home of Stout Grove and other beautiful redwood hikes. Driving into Crescent City, about 45-60 minutes, winds you right through the "gentle giants" on your way to or from Redwood National Park.
  • Awesome space, Dan is very kind, welcoming, I would definitely stay there again or in another building. Dans descriptions are accurate. Also the stars at night are something else ❤️

  • Couldn’t have asked for a better spot for a unique getaway. Everything was just as we were hoping for. During the day you enjoy spectacular views of vast mountains. At night, the stars seem to be within your grasp. It was truly beautiful.

  • Such a beautiful magical place

    Jonathan2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Unique and cozy space!

    Andres2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Everyone we met in the village was warm and welcoming. Dan’s instructions on how to get there were on point. Definitely arrive in the daylight, we would have certainly been lost otherwise. Dan sends out great instructions and expectations. This is not a luxury getaway and he makes that clear. What it is, is an adventure off the grid in some peaceful woods. We stayed in the Hobbit Hole which was wonderful and very cozy. We would certainly entertain the other dwellings in warmer climates!

    Emily2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is an INCREDIBLE and magic filled oasis - the journey in is just as exciting as the destination itself. Think inner child released, imagination run wild, and all the potential only asking to be tapped. For something so wild, everything was clean and amenities easily accessible. Do it. Do it now!

    Breanna2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • 10/10 would recommend. This place is SO FREAKING COOL, an absolutely beautiful area, the views are awesome, and the village is just such a fantastic place (there are GOATS!) Dan's instructions on how to get there are really clear and the drive is super beautiful. Dan was easy to communicate with, the place was lovely and clean (honestly unbelievably clean especially considering it's a cave) the space is just incredible, great details, and really comfortable! Could not recommend highly enough!! (Also great job on the eco-ness of the place - I love it!)

  • Don’t knock it till you try it! I would disclose that when I went with my partner, I didn’t read the information, saw the cheap price, and clicked right away as we were on a trip and looking for a place fast. But we were not disappointed, after we read the info we came prepared with firewood and some candle lights that we bought on the road. That being said, the house was such a great adventure! It was the most fun I’ve had in a while on a trip. We shuttered up and hunkered by the fireplace and just talked all night as we weren’t distracted due to no electricity or reception. Do come prepared, read the directions provided and do come with a spirit. Walk nicks trail! You would not be disappointed! Thanks Dan for letting us stay! We hope we can come back!

A comfortable two-story cabin deep in the Northern California Six Rivers National Forest. Part of a remote, off-grid "village," including a few other cabins, chickens, dogs, frogs, cats, permaculture gardens and all kinds of cool, sustainable projects. • Wow! What a unique & excellent spot! In addition to the cozy cabin, the beautiful property, and friendly farm-family, we had the opportunity to spend time with the newborn goat and take the other goaties for a walk in the woods. Dan was a very friendly and knowledgeable host. 10/10 would recommend!

  • The best AirBnb experience I have had! I absolutely love the place and people!

    Dustin2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here as a get away, to unplug for a night and enjoy the serenity of the mountains. The views did not disappoint, the skies were clear and so we could see every star- absolutely breathtaking! We walked the short hike down Nicks trail- serenity trail, enjoying the babbling stream, and when we returned to the cabin, the wood burning stove was a must in the cold February weather ! Dan was pleasant and accommodating and we love love loved the animals! Happy the dog came to visit us in the evening and a sweet black cat came and sat in my lap by the fire for hours! My son enjoyed watching the chickens and goats too! As we were the only ones staying on the property we were allowed to look in all of the other cabins which was awesome! The witch’s hut was perfect for us as we were able to lay our 2 year old down for bed in the loft and my husband and I stayed up later by the fire downstairs. Things I would note if you’re skeptical: this is a rustic cabin- you will have no cell service, limited power, the toilet is shared between cabins and is composting (ie a bucket with sawdust), it is a working homestead/ community so there will be construction, gardening, general work going on but everyone was super friendly! lastly bring what you will need as there weren’t utensils or other items like that for us to use, I’d also recommend candles and headlamps! These were all things that we were expecting and looking forward to, I.e. and unplugged night alway from “the city”. We can’t wait to go back in the spring when the garden is flourishing and perhaps we can use the swimming hole!

    Katherine2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for having us! We loved the Witches hut. It’s quiet, cozy and full of character. We took Dan’s advice and arrived before sunset. This really helped us get the lay of the land. Cheers!

    Will2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great jumping off point to explore the redwoods. We stayed in the witches hut - I like this one because it is closest to the communal kitchen and bathroom. It heats easily with a small wood stove and there is a pile of wood outside the cabin ready for splitting. The village is well organized and everything works - the showers were hot and the cooking facilities were great. Bring all your food with you as there is nowhere to buy groceries nearby. The water there is amazing. We found a helpful sheet in the communal kitchen describing an amazing trail through J Smith park to the Boy Scout tree - it is off an unmarked path on the way to fern falls - we would not have found it without Dan. If you aren’t afraid of driving on dirt roads, can cook and can make a fire and split wood than this is the place for you. Truly a unique experience.

    Ben2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Certainly not your typical airbnb, but a lovely experience for those looking for a bit of adventure and seclusion in the beauty of the landscape. The drive in and out was dicey for our small city car; we took it really slow and were relieved to make it out. The space was charming and we enjoyed meeting the other guests staying on site. Thanks, Dan for sharing in the fruits of your labor.

    Dana2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed in the witch's hut for two nights in mid December, I'll try to give a description of my experience. Dan has spent over a decade creating this village (it deserves the title) with the help of others in the spirit of Maitreya (friendship). The state of the village on the edge of 2020 was extraordinarily impressive. It is clear that an astounding amount of work was put into this community; all of the buildings (I saw the interior of most) are crafted with loving attention to detail and a playful creative spirit. As you stay in these building you will feel the incredible amount of care and effort that went into the construction of each one. Each building I visited was spectacular, but the Witch's hut in particular taught me that I had never before in my life known what it truly meant to be cozy. It was raining and so I rarely left the hut, but I didn't even mind, it was so comfortable to stay and work in. Thomas Jefferson would undoubtedly be proud of America if all he saw of the future was the agrarian village of Maitreya: a community of friends living and thinking as independently as possible. I personally used these two nights to write, and so found it perfect, but I warn that this place is not for everyone. If you want to be pampered, if you don't like losing access to internet, if you don't like animals, if you don't like losing modern amenities (there is a composting toilet, welcome to nature!), you should find some other establishment.

    Brian2019-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely a rustic experience, but 100% worth it if you're into that.

Welcome to Eudora! Our twenty acres of secluded woodland, in Southern Oregon's beautiful Klamath Siskiyou ecoregion. Our property is run on solar power - come experience the rustic, off-grid Oregon lifestyle. Our dream is to make this property into a small permaculture homestead, and create more beautiful spaces so we can have more folks visit the property. We invite you to enjoy our woods and relax in the wild.
The cabin is studio style i.e. one open room. *For folks booking in the winter - late October through April approx. - the only heat in the cabin is from a wood stove - we will provide you with firewood and can start a fire in the wood stove for you.* There is an enclosed outdoor shower on the back porch, with hot water. The toilet is an outhouse, which is a short walk from the cabin - so be ready for a genuine rustic experience! Our chicken yard is just downhill from the cabin (only hens, we don't have a rooster) - please enjoy as many farm fresh eggs as you like during your stay. There are three farm dogs on site, that may join you on a hike around the property. There is a 1.8 mile gravel road to our property that has some potholes - please take this into consideration. We only use natural cleaning products in the cabin, and organic practices on the property.
The Illinois Valley is a very special place - there are many incredible hikes and river spots all around us- we will be happy to recommend some of our favorites during your stay. There are three grocery stores in Cave Junction, Shop Smart (Ray’s), Grocery Outlet and Diggin’ Livin Natural Foods & Cafe - all of which are open 7 days a week.
  • Warm wood fire. Stars beaming through the skylights. Great food from Cave Junction's local hippie store. Cozy woods and critters all around us, and a bathroom with an amazing view! We definitely felt like Travis and Hannah's off grid haven from the noise and waste of civilization was truly a special discovery! Thanks guys :)

    Jacob2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Hannah's place was great. Very off the beaten path. The dirt road to get there is about 15 minutes long and was a little scary to drive at night but Hannah and her adorable dogs met us as soon as we got there to great us and show us around. She had also gotten the wood stove going before we got there so it was nice and toasty. This place is definitely rustic and off the grid. The "bathroom" is entirely outside with no door just a heads up and so is the shower. The cabin itself is beautifully built with all the necessary amenities for a brief stay. The books and games and puzzles were a great addition as well. Hope to be back one day!

    Vanessa2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Super friendly, they did a fantastic job making it feel like home. Their dogs are super sweet and visited us in the mornings.

  • The road is a little hard to get up at some points but it is so worth it! Such a cute little cabin that is perfect for a quiet get away. The host are very responsive and super friendly! Would recommend to anyone!

  • Great spot to stay if visiting the Oregon Caves area. Super rustic and off the grid but that was made clear before we reserved. Nice space!

  • Beautiful area, sweet, rustic cabin experience!

    Nicole2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Hannah’s place is pure off the grid awesomeness! The quiet, the stars and the incredible flora around it makes it one of the most peaceful places I’ve been in a while. If you’re in the area to visit the Oregon caves or the Siskiyou region (incredible nature) treat yourself to this fantastic place full of thoughtful touches and true serenity.

It is a quiet neighborhood with neighbors on 5 acre and larger parcels. Hiking or walking paths are nearby. The loop is an easy 1.7 miles around. Close to the Marble Mountains. Close to Kidder Creek Camp and about 10 miles from JH Ranch.

Also a very clean room and home overall. A little bit off the beaten track but maybe that is just what you are looking for. Would stay again.

In addition to our little eco-cabins, we offer camping spots throughout our 160 acre property in Northern California's Six Rivers National Forest. Part of a remote, off-grid "village," including a few other cabins, chickens, dogs, frogs, cats, permaculture gardens and all kinds of cool, sustainable projects. Search Maitreya Mountain Village for a clearer picture of our sustainable living project.
You can set up your tent anywhere in the woods, anywhere in ewok village (which is below/before the tree house area), just not right next to someone else's cabin. There are plenty of flat spots in terraced areas, down at the river (Little Jones Creek) and on any wayward path into our woods. Ask around. You may not find Dan right away, but someone will point you in the right direction. It's kind of a "make yourself at home" and "figure it out yourself," casual arrangement. If you are looking for a unique experience in a beautiful natural area and would like to experience life in an off-grid, sustainable, permaculture-focused ecovillage and all that a wilderness area has to offer -- rough roads, dirt, mud, insects, messes, barking dogs, mosquitoes, bees, mice, early morning roosters, communal living, composting toilets, ongoing construction projects - then we invite you join us in our mountain village! Accessible only by forestry road from scenic Redwood Hwy (CA-199,) this is an opportunity to experience our responsible natural relationship with Mother Earth. This location is very beautiful and quite remote, so please be sure you've read through the full description and are prepared for certain elements of "roughing it" and adventure travel. The Village is also a work-in-progress so we are likely to be working and there may be construction, dirt, and messes around! Amenities: •Lighting / Electricity: Our dining hall (Hygge Hall) has a PV system that you can use to charge stuff, a refrigerator, etc •Kitchen: The outdoor and indoor kitchen in Lower Village has a small propane camping stove, and plenty of pots, pans, and utensils for your use. •Bathrooms: We use composting toilets (buckets with seats); there is an indoor toilet in both bathhouses. Hot shower there, too. It is about 200 yds on average away from most of our cabins and camping spots •(Lack of) Phone / Internet: Some Verizon and US Cellular service is available, but AT&T and T-Mobile do not service our area.
  • I am super impressed with Dan's eco-village. It's in a beautiful area, and it's really quiet. A big plus for me is that there was NO WIFI NOR CELL SERVICE! I came here for 3 days to have a completely off-grid break, and that's exactly what I got! :-D The goats were super friendly and the hens had a surplus of fresh eggs which I enjoyed each morning I was here. Getting here was an adventure in and of itself. It was a lot of fun to ford the river in my truck on the way up! The eco-village is a great showcase of possibilities for sustainable living that is good for the planet, and good for human beings as well! Can't recommend it enough!

  • This was such a fun stay! Definitely an adventure, and it’s a true camping experience! Beautiful scenery, great people living on the property that are super kind and helpful. Follow Dan’s instructions for getting there exactly, they are spot on! Would love to come back, such a unique space and community they have developing here. Side note: extra bug spray is a good idea!

  • We thought Dan's place was just as described. While we didn't meet Dan, there were very friendly folk and good signage around for us to settle in nicely. The property is beautiful, and well worth the rugged drive. We camped on the property. It was the fault of my own assumption, but just to mention for anyone considering the place - we were not able to have our car next to where we camped. We packed light and there was a place up the hill to unload our things first but just wanted to mention for anyone else looking for a nice place to camp outside of the nearby campgrounds. There is a bit of uphill walking from where you can camp. While we didn't use the community spaces (kitchen/bathhouse) we did check them out and it was very beautiful and well constructed. Perhaps one day we'll be back to stay in some of the cabins on site.

  • Super cool remote place. We enjoyed this so much and would definitely come back when in the area again. If you’re looking for peace and tranquility then this is the spot. Absolutely beautiful

  • Amazing hospitality! My trip started out with getting lost and stuck but the people at the mountain village took great care of me. Dan even pulled my car out of the mud for me with his truck. The village is serene, well-kept and welcoming. An ideal location to reconnect with natural and slow your pace of life. Just a precaution from someone who had serious trouble finding the location. Make sure you have good traction tires, arrive during daylight, and follow the instructions carefully on how to get there. Here are my super simplified instructions once you turn on Little Jones Creek Road off Hwy 199: 1. Follow Little Jones Creek road a couple miles until you reach a fork. 2. TURN RIGHT AT THE FORK onto the DIRT ROAD with the sign saying 17N08 3. Drive a couple miles until you see the SMILEY FACE SIGN on a tree and a traffic cone. TURN RIGHT. 4. Keep going and you can't miss it. And like it says in the directions definitely do not follow your phone's directions. You will end up in a scary place further up 17N05 with signs like "Beware of Owner" with a gun pointing at you.

We had a wonderful time here and met some great people. Dan is doing some really cool things and building an amazing community!

Make sure you read the posting description adequately and you will be prepared for arrival just fine. I have recommended this Airbnb to many friends and would absolutely stay here again - and even make an extra trip out of it! Thank you Dan for going above and beyond to make our stay exceptional.

  • Maitreya Mountain Village is an incredibly beautiful off the grid place. We loved our 3 nights in the tree house. Even though the weather was a bit nippy, we were warm and cozy due to plenty of covers. Being able to breath in the fresh mountain air, gaze at the stars and moon, listen to the babbling brook, and watch the mist rise from the valley floor was magical. And we loved being able to participate in some of the life of the village. Seeing the milking, feeding, and care of the goats, as well as the making of cheese was especially cool. Loved also drinking the pristine water, the conversations with the volunteers, and hearing about their world experiences. The common space with kitchen facilities and wood stove was great for after dark. We appreciated that the road in was good and not at all a problem for my Pontiac Vibe. We hope to return soon.

Set in the middle of beautiful Scott Valley-between Ft. Jones and Etna, CA. Cozy bedroom with queen bed and next door to shared bathroom (when someone is in the Blue Room). In modern manufactured home set in a quiet rural subdivision of 5 acre or larger parcels. Have a large amiable Doodle and small dog--so a guest dog is welcome. Close to hiking.
Cozy room with queen bed and desk. A roomy bathroom with 2 sinks and a shower/tub combo-- is next door. (It must be shared if there is a guest in the adjacent Blue Room.) There is a TV with Roku that can be used for Netflix. (No TV service.)
This is very rural. I live in a small development of about 15 properties that are 5 or more acres in size. Surrounded by much larger properties. Nice view of the Marble Mountains. There are old logging roads that can be used for hiking plus the 1.7 mile loop that I live on. Close to Kidder Creek Camp and about 10 miles from JH Camp.
  • Excellent spot between Etna and Ft. Jones

  • Bonnie is wonderful, and her place is in a peaceful valley, where, on one of our two nights there we were serenaded by howling coyotes in the nearby hills! Bonnie has two super sweet dogs and lots of birds at her feeders. Very quiet and serene place with a gracious host at a great price. What more could you ask for?

    Tammy2019-11-10T00:00:00Z

  • I was driving from Los Angeles to Seattle and I was looking for a place to stay. I typed Yreka and the first option was Bonnie's room so I booked it but it was a bit off highway 5 and I wanted to cancel it but I did not and I am very very happy that I did not. I had a wonderful stay! I enjoyed it so much. Really liked the peaceful environment. No noise! All natural sounds. This stunning place reminded me of my childhood memories when I was staying at my grandmother's place. It was absolutely peaceful and wonderful. Host is absolutely wonderful. Room is sparkling clean. Coffee, tea, etc. provided by Bonnie. I had the perfect stay and thinking of rebooking with her. I really recommend staying with Bonnie for vacation or even for a place to sleep the night when driving highway 5.

We are located in Takilma, Oregon - about 12 miles outside of Cave Junction, Oregon. We are close to the Oregon Caves National Monument, Redwood National Forest and the Oregon coast. There is plenty of hiking, fishing and rafting in our area as well!
The Peacock Perch was the first treehouse we built back in 1990. It sits 18 feet off of the ground and is a small single room unit with a queen bed, small single cot and a hand sink with cold running water. It is located about 30 feet away from the base of the stairs to the closest restroom.
We are rurally located 12 miles outside of Cave Junction Oregon. We are in a community known as Takilma where all of our neighbors know who we are and are generally very friendly and kind people and are aware we are operation a bed and breakfast.
  • Our time at Out'n'about was brief, but we enjoyed the place very much. We stayed in the cozy Peacock Perch. It's a beautiful little room with a very comfortable and warm (lots of blankets) double? bed. There is a sink in the room, which allows you to avoid trips downstairs for drinking water, brushing teeth, or washing hands - though I will say that it offers only a trickle of cold water. Apart from a good night sleep, we enjoyed the continental breakfast and had fun playing some disc golf in the big field next to the treehouses. Never did meet Alex, but met some very friendly staff at the main desk.

  • Very secluded cute treehouse community. Family oriented. It was me, my husband and my toddler. My toddler absolutely LOVED it! There were real live horses, tire swings shaped like horses (the cutest thing ever), and regular baby swings, also larger swings for older kids (there was one connected to two trees which was pretty awesome!!) We would 100% come back! Especially in the summer (we were told by a very sweet staff member Janessa, that summers are always very booked due to the great kid friendly festivities and there is a full breakfast bar!) We had an awesome time here at out n about and we look forward to coming back soon! Peace & Love, The Ventresca Family

A decahexagon (16 sided) open floor plan, earth sheltered, living roof, post and beam, log-and-tile off-grid mansion way out in the woods with spring-fed water and with many "unfinished" details. Surrounded by wilderness. Great for self-reliant, experienced adventurers and especially larger groups (we've had 16 people inhabit he Lodge). It's a little much for a single or for a couple, although couples DO still regularly rent it.
NOTE: It's RUSTIC. We have unfinished projects, pretty much all the time, the gardens and orchards are WILD This location is very beautiful and quite remote and is best suited for adventurous souls who are ready to brave the elements and have a bit of a pioneer-style living experience. Please be sure you've read through the full description and ask any necessary questions to make sure you know what you are getting into! We want our guests to be happy - please be sure you are up for something "different"! And it is NOT the Marriott! The photos were taken by a professional (sent from airbnb) and the Lodge is NOT as nice as it shows in the pictures. It just isn't. Amenities: •Lighting / Electricity: the lodge does have electric LED lighting; we try to keep a flashlight, lantern, and/or candle available for your use -- but we recommend that you bring your own lights. •Kitchen: a commercial propane stove (no oven), and plenty of pots, pans, and utensils for your use. No refrigeration, but there is a freezer you can use in the lower village, about a quarter mile downhill •Bathrooms: We use composting toilets and there is a bidet (pretty fancy for roughing, heh?) Hot propane shower. •(Lack of) Phone / Internet: Some Verizon and US Cellular service is available, but AT&T and T-Mobile do not service our area.
  • What a beautiful and unique place! My kids and I enjoyed getting away from the frenzy of life. Dan’s village is perfect for slowing down, enjoying nature and each other’s company. We had plenty of space in the lodge and especially liked the green roof! There was lots of exploring to do, and a cozy evening by the fire in the beautiful mosaic-floored “gathering put”. We’ll be back for sure!

  • Gorgeous, quiet place!

    Miguel2018-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great experience, it was a nice secluded spot that gave a real unplugged feeling that was just what we needed. It is a bit of a drive to reach, but overall it was great.

    Brett2018-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • I'm glad Dan lowered the bar with his humble disclaimer because it made the surprise just that much more fantastic. I LOVED this place. I really hope to make it up there again. The setting could not be more beautiful. The structure was so unique and inspiring. I'm convinced that a week up there would cure me of myself. Here are just a few tips to make your stay more enjoyable: 1) Your glamping. Don't rely on outlets for coffee grinders, laptops etc... I didn't see any. 2) Bring bottled water. I couldn't really figure out the potable water situation. 3) Dress for the weather (like you're camping). We were there in winter. There's a wonderful wood burning stove, but it was still very cold, especially at night. Just think ahead. If you're a rugged soul, this place will blow your mind. It did mine.

  • Where and how to start... we had a very unique experience that I doubt others will replicate. It had snowed quite heavily the night we arrived & fallen trees stopped us driving in; so we hiked 4 miles up a mountain in the snow, the lodge was stunning and if we had been there longer than a night we would have been able to fully appreciate it, but the next day we had to make our way out; thankfully being driven back to our abandoned car. Several fallen trees needed to be removed on the route, which added to the adventure. It was a very memorable experience and our hosts were great. Just be sure to book when you won’t be snowed in, or out for that matter!

  • Second time back and it’s always way too hard to leave! Highly recommend it!

    Nolynn2018-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was very interesting! We were warned about the hike up to the lodge and I took it lightly which was a mistake haha we hiked our cooler 1/3 of a mile up a steep hill! All that aside the lodge was very rustic and unique. Keep an open mind. It is really cool Dan built that! Dan was a very friendly person and gave us some very helpful tips on where to visit and the places he mentioned were beautiful! I would love to come back some day and stay in the tree house

    Rachael2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • My second time staying here and strongly recommend to those heading out in Jedediah Smith State Park. Dan (and Co.) has (have) done a phenomenal job in putting it together. Supporting their permaculture mission is in and of itself worthwhile, but the beautiful scenery and well constructed village make it all the more so. Thank you for letting us share this experience!

Gasquet is a rural, residential ( approximately 600 persons) community located in the heart of the Smith River National Recreation Area, 10 minutes from Jed Smith Redwoods National and State Park. Nestled next to the Wild and Scenic Smith River and surrounded by a conifer and hardwood forest, Gasquet is desirable for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages: hikers, bikers, fishermen and women, kayakers, and swimmers. It is beautiful and quiet. It has a small airstrip and Highway 199 for auto access, so you may hear the occasional private plane or traffic sounds. There are only two services, a post Office and a small but well-appointed grocery/liquor store. Other services are nearby-- only minutes away. Because Gasquet enjoys more sunshine, it is known as the "banana belt" of Del Norte County.
  • Your own very special apartment with a thoughtful, creative caretaker of the space. Very sweet and loving dog (Quill) and cats (Mojo and Truffle) along with your very own backyard (covered area available under a gazebo if raining) access to Smith River!! • Darrel's place was great for a weekend retreat. It was very spacious and had a very well stocked kitchen. The house was easy to find, even in the dark, and Darrel was a very responsive and supportive host. We really enjoyed all the hiking trails and wildlife nearby!

    Ling2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Full access to the house and all the appliances. Large space good for families. Darell is SO generous and even offered any of the food and laundry detergents there as well. He offers great advice of local to do’s and must see’s. He was always available by text or phone for any questions or concerns. Also there is a small landing strip where small planes land just feet away from the front yard. A site to see!

  • We’re traveling through Cali from Washington so it was a nice stopping point for the day. We arrived at night and upon the arrival, it was kind of creepy and intimidating...( it was also 10 pm lol). The air cuts on and off but when it cuts off ... it’s noticeably quiet and a little eerie. It’s way less intimidating during the day though! Darrel has a unique taste with decorating but it’s a pretty neat layout overall. The bathroom and shower with the seat was really nice ! Friendly people! Thank you again.

    Olivia2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Darrel’s place was great-clean, spacious, and quiet surroundings. Enjoyed sitting outside on the Lazy Boy drinking my coffee and watching my dog run around the large property. It was fun picking berries and apples to take home:) Darrel was awesome!Super friendly, flexible and very helpful.

  • The house was located in a very nice location near the beautiful Smith river and amazing redwoods. The house itself was very spacious and fun. All of the amenities you would expect and more. Darrel was very enthusiastic and helpful. He pointed out a great area to explore the redwoods. Frodo the cat was friendly!

We are located in Takilma, Oregon - about 12 miles outside of Cave Junction, Oregon. We are close to the Oregon Caves National Monument, the Redwood National Forest and the Oregon coast. There is plenty of hiking, fishing, and rafting in our area as well!
The Forestree sits about 32 feet off of the ground and can sleep 4 to 5 people. It is a single room unit with a queen bed, single wide bunk beds, a small single cot built into the wall, mini refrigerator, and a toilet and sink. The toilet and sink are not very private, they are only separated from the room by a thin curtain but they are mainly in the room so you don't have to go down 30 feet to the ground in the middle of the night to use a restroom. There are full regular bathrooms available for guest use on the ground level. The Forestree is accessed by climbing three flights of stairs, crossing two suspension bridges and then climbing another seven stairs to get into the room.
We are rurally located 12 miles outside of Cave Junction, Oregon. We are in a community known as Takilma where all of our neighbors know who we are and are generally very friendly and kind people and are aware we are operation a bed and breakfast.
  • The ”Forestree” room was everything I wanted it to be. The amenities were better than expected, and the staff was warm and friendly. I plan on returning and would highly recommend staying here.

  • I can’t say enough about how special it is to stay in this treehouse. It feels as if you are defying gravity and is cozy and quaint. The communal kitchen on site is spotless and had everything we needed to make dinners for ourselves. We enjoyed bonfires at the fire pit and breakfast in the lodge. This treehouse does take some effort to reach so it’s not for anyone that has trouble climbing stairs repeatedly. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants an adventure surrounded by whimsy and tree magic. The treesort is full of good vibrations and entertainment for outdoor enthusiasts. It’s a favorite place and surrounded by Oregon’s natural beauty. Top notch.

  • If you're the type who lingered at the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse at Disneyland (like my girlfriend) this is the place to stay. Be prepared to haul your suitcase up to the heights and the bridges do swing a bit, which adds to the charm. This is probably as close to the Disney attraction as you'll find in the US, despite the proliferation of treehouse accomodations throughout the country.

  • My fiancé and I stayed in the Pleasantree treehouse for one night on our spontaneous road trip north. We found the spot on a whim and booked it last minute; but it was incredible! The treehouse had a great little porch to sit out on and take in the view. The lofted sleeping area is tight - definitely snug for two people but it can be done. The space heaters worked well to keep the treehouse warm. We didn’t brave the shower; simply because we wanted to get on the road but the sink and toilet worked just fine. Breakfast in the morning was great. We will definitely be back!

  • Such a fun experience!!! Beautiful property, very clean, great breakfast. My family and I really enjoyed it! The horse back ride with Connie was amazing as well!! Such an amazing ride this time of year with all the leaves changing. The horses were so well behaved, we will definitely be back. We want to try zip lining next time!

Surrounded by the beauty of California's northern forests, and the sounds of Smith River echoing through the landscape (during winter) this cabin is the perfect getaway to nature and seclusion. Inside is a smoke free environment and pets are considered. The Cabin is approximately 864 sq. ft. and will accommodate up to six guests on almost an acre of land, with a pond, and completely fenced for your privacy. Offering two bedrooms, one with a king-sized bed and a 39" flat screen TV, and the other with a twin-over-queen bunk bed set (top bed has a 150 pound weight limit). The living room also boasts a queen-sized sleeper sofa, and there are additionally two bathrooms. The living room is a great spot in which to unwind, with a large flat-screen television with DVD/VHS player, Satellite internet, and comfy seating. A range of books, games, DVDs/VHS and Sirius radio are provided for entertainment. A fully-equipped kitchen (no dishwasher) allows guests to self-cater in style, with complimentary gourmet coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Outside, a spacious wrap-around deck is the perfect place to gaze over the forests full of local flora, with an outdoor grill for alfresco dining and cooking. The host provides many pantry items such as cooking oil and spices. Air conditioning and heating are featured throughout the cabin, which, along with a wood-burning stove, will keep things cozy in every season. And we supply the wood! A private washing machine and dryer will make even longer stays comfortable, and guests will also have access to a two car garage. All linens and towels are provided by the host, as well as shampoo, body wash and laundry detergent. The Cabin is in a remote area so cell phone reception is variable depending on your service provider and phone. There is a land-line and WiFi is also provided. There are many times when it's foggy at the coast but it's sunny at The Cabin! It's just a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive to the pristine Smith River. It’s the largest free-flowing (no dams) river in the state, producing the largest Steelhead and Chinook salmon. Dogs are considered, please tell me how many, how old and how large/small. No cats please. There is an additional $20 pet cleaning fee. From The Cabin it’s just 11 miles on scenic Hwy 199 to Redwood National Park and Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park. Some of the tallest trees in the world reside here and there are many trails to explore. Drive or bike through Redwood National Park on unpaved Howland Hill Rd. There are massive Redwood trees! Like the ocean? We’re only 22 miles away as you drive through the Redwoods and Crescent City. In Crescent City there is Battery Point Lighthouse. In fact, there are many lighthouses along the coast. There is a great view from these lighthouses to do some whale watching. Gray whales migrate from December through May. You may also see Orcas and Humpback whales. Northern California and Oregon have some of the most beautiful coastlines. Yet, on those foggy coastal days, Gasquet is usually in the sunshine. Great Fishing -- Along with Steelhead and Chinook, the Smith also has runs of Silver salmon, Coho and sea-run cutthroat trout. The Chinook runs start in late August, going through late December, with its peak in November. Steelhead starts their runs in early December and goes through March, with their peak in January. The Smith River flows through some of the most beautiful scenery in California. From Six Rivers National Forest through Jedediah State Park, people say that it’s hard to decide which is better, the scenery or the fishing.
  • Great cozy cabin surrounded by dense forest! We used it as a home base to go hiking in the Jedediah Smith park; it was a warm, comfortable respite to come home to. There were plenty of supplies to cook a full meal every night. The wood burning stove was our favorite part of the cabin!

  • There are a lot of options to stay in the Redwoods Forest and we’re so glad we picked this cabin by the Smith River. The location and river views were so beautiful and more than we could have expected. Diane’s cabin was perfect, homey, cozy, and warm. The stove fireplace came in very handy. Thank you Diane for being so responsive and accommodating and a perfect host.

    Mona2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our family had great time, while staying at Diane's place. As the cabin is located in the middle of mountain area, during the stay, it reminisced my summer camping during the youth. I gave max score, as I had very meaningful experience here. However, If I give some additional comment for the improvement. If the cabin provides better internet speed, it couldn't be any better. Download speed: 0.31 Mbps / Upload speed: 0.7 Mbps. However, it gave us better chance to read more books and play more games.

    Mooyoung2019-12-31T00:00:00Z

BMH is a family & pet friendly home! It's in the Six River's National Park, on the Middle Fork of the Smith River. It's a perfect spot for swimming, kayaking, fishing and just enjoying the scenery! We do charge a 10% occupancy tax. I will need to collect that upon arrival, by check or cash.
BMH is a comfortable house, with a full deck on the river side! In the summer, the river is wonderful! Shallow enough for the kids, perfect for water activities. In the winter, a perfect location for fishermen!
Gasquet is a community of about 600 people. The Flat is shaded, perfect for walks, just enjoying the fresh air and friendly people! We have a small market and a post office. The area is full of great hiking trails, plus only about 20 miles to the ocean! Also, in the opposite direction, we have the Oregon Caves, in Cave Junction, and fun antiquing in the quaint town of Grants Pass, Oregon. The town of Brookings, Oregon is also a great place to visit: on the ocean, cute shops and fun restaurants.
  • This is a very cozy home. It’s in a great location for local hiking adventures.

  • If you are a fisherman, or here to see the Redwoods, this is a fantastic place to stay, especially if you enjoy river front living!

    Janice2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Marian’s riverside rental is an absolute delight. It is perfectly peaceful, the house is comfy and cozy, and it is near fantastic redwood trails! As a host, Marian will not fail you. She checked in when we first got there. Marian was friendly, greeted us, and affirmed she was always there across the street. Not only that, but she stocks the cupboard really well. I cannot tell you how accommodated I felt when I opened the fridge to find a brand new, seemingly freshly bought carton of half and half. It’s a small item, but we forgot creamer for coffee and Marian anticipated our needs. If you’re going to the redwoods in crescent city (best place for them in my opinion) you are a fool if you don’t go to Marian first.

  • great riverfront location

    Mark2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved it here! Super clean, super peaceful and perfectly placed on the river! Marian is a complete sweetheart!

    Barbie2019-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • The place is as described or better. Neat and clean and in the perfect place to take day trips and view the Redwoods and other areas such as the scenic Highway 30 through the Columbia Gorge area. Marion brought us over a map and recommended what to go see and some great places to eat seafood...the side on cod was less expensive than a side of fries in Crescent City something we don't see in Montana. The neighborhood is beautiful and the neighbors that we met were all nice. We walked our dogs along Bubba's walk each day and they were accepted by the locals too.

  • Excellent host and awesome place! highly recommended

    Benji2018-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • The space was exactly as described and more. The location is gorgeous being right on the river. The house was clean and stocked with everything you could need—even condiments in the fridge. Marian was quick to respond and so accommodating. I would recommended this rental and host to anyone!

Beautiful farmhouse cottage located on Augustino Estate and Vineyard, home of the amazing Treehouse wine tasting room. This is a working ranch & vineyard property in the Illinois Valley. Horses, cattle and amazing natural surroundings. Best of all, you can walk to the tasting room to enjoy award winning wines while looking out over the Illinois river.
  • Place was just as described. Highly recommended!

  • After a last minute booking, Debbie was so accommodating with us, she couldn't have done any more! The cabin is beautiful, clean and on a working ranch! We loved our stay there, we only wished we could have stayed longer!

    Rebecca2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very relaxing cottage bordering a vineyard. We came out here to visit family and the cottage was a great place to visit and relax after a fun filled day in the sun. Coffee, cups, cook wear and utensils were all provided. Great little ranch style touches throughout, including a burl coffee table and lamps/light fixtures made of antler. The property is very peaceful and quiet, tucked well away from the highway. And the best part...the wine tasting in the treehouse on the same property!

  • My two employees and I stayed at Debbie's place for a week. The house is comfortable and the king bed I slept on is soft yet firm enough to give me a great night of sleep. It is a private location away from other properties under shade trees. I highly recommend this place.

  • I would definitely return. I was unable to check in until after hours and they made sure to accommodate me regardless and left a key and detailed instructions. I was very grateful. The space was very clean and they provided water bottles and a coffee maker. Only suggestion I would make is to bring lots of blankets or a very warm sleeping bag. Despite the space heater running all night and 2 hefty blankets, it was still chilly inside. Mind you, it was in the low 20s that night. Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay. The showers were very warm and clean. Such a beautiful location!

We offer a peaceful and comfortable 1930's mountain cabin in the heart of the Klamath Mountains. The setting, nestled among large, ancient, fir trees and majestic hardwoods, is a perfect base camp to explore the surrounding mountains and rivers. Local highlights include the Marble Mountain and Siskiyou Wilderness Areas and Wild and Scenic Rivers including Dillon Creek, Salmon River and the Klamath River. The Salmon River Outpost in the town of Somes Bar offers food, beverages and more.
Our listing is for a 4 room cabin (700 sq ft) that is on a 3 acre parcel deep in the Klamath Mountains of Northwest California. The cabin features a bright kitchen that is stocked with utensils and cooking ware, a large central living/dining room with 2 single beds, a bathroom with claw-foot tub, and a bedroom with a double brass bed. There is a backyard and patio for games and bar-b-queuing. The setting offers good privacy, but we are about 150 feet through the woods from your cabin if any needs arise. We live 12 miles from the grid, so we generate our own power with a micro-hydro system. There is no cell phone service or land-line telephone. Guests are welcome to use our telephone for personal calls. We also have high-speed internet at our home that is WiFi accessible. This is a remote location that offers privacy and peace and quiet.
Somes Bar is a tight-knit mountain community that, out of love and sometimes out of necessity, support each other. This area is Karuk Ancestral Territory and we wish to respect and honor their traditions and cultural uses of the landscape. The Ti Bar Road neighborhood consists of five families on hillside homesteads and several Karuk families along the Klamath River. Many work for the Karuk Dept. of Natural Resources, the Mid-Klamath Watershed Council, the U.S. Forest Service, public schools or CalTrans. The local watershed council and arts council sponsor monthly community dinners and occasional dances. Recreational highlights include swimming in the pristine waters of Dillon Creek and the Salmon River, rafting, hiking, bicycling, and fishing.
  • We had a great time at 10 Bear Cabin. We were greeted in the driveway by Ruffy a super, sweet dog. The cabin is welcoming with a cozy, wood stove and fresh cut flowers from Nena and Max’s yard. It’s clean and bright with plenty of linens and towels. A quiet spot to relax or use as a base for exploring the area. Comfortable for a couple and spacious enough for families with kids. Plenty of room for kids to play, complete with a small creek. Nena and Max were kind, responsive and easygoing hosts. They offered great advice on how to navigate the area.

    Carly2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Nena has thought of everything to make your stay at Ten Bear Cabin complete. All you need to bring is yourself and your groceries. Her property is amazingly beautiful. Even during Autumn Rain it’s gorgeous. Local fishing on the Klamath River was easily accessible. The location is very remote, if you’re looking to unplug off the grid. If you’re lucky enough to hang with Ruffy, she’ll take good care of you and escort you on nature walks. Wonderful memories made at Ten Bear Cabin!

    Alicia2018-11-24T00:00:00Z

    Peter2018-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Just a great little place off the grid in one of California's wildest and most beautiful places. The cabin is perfect--not too big, not too small, not too fancy, not too plain, not too old, not too young. A cabin in the woods, simply and tastefully appointed. I could stay a month here.

    Mike2018-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay. We were bedazzled by the beauty and appreciated your beautiful place. Loved Ruffy and Dillon was an excellent host.

    Nicole2018-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Ten Bear Cabin is delightful. It is fully equipped with all that could be expected in a cabin and much more! We enjoyed the lovely wooded setting - porch and back patio area as well as the creatively decorated indoor space. Nena and Max were welcoming and most helpful. Horses and a very friendly dog added to the fun. While the cabin is truly in the woods it offers great access to beautiful scenery and activities on the Klamath and Salmon Rivers. We look forward to a return visit.

    Frank2018-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • I believe this is the first Air BnB review I have left. It’s a mountain cabin thoughtfully turned into a vacation spot. The hosts have a good eye for removing clutter, allowing the cabin’s charm to show through. There’s still some interesting items left over from it’s past, like some gas lighting appliances left in place. The appliances seem to run on propane but everything worked well. The location is great for people who want to explore this area. You’re midway between Somes Bar and Happy Camp, places where you can get to a general store in 30 minutes or so. Excellent access to the Klamath and there are so many access points along this stretch of road. The cabin’s access road is in good shape and easily passable by any car. Host is friendly and helpful!

A gorgeous 16 mile drive along the South Fork of the Smith River gets you to this luxurious river side house located in an area named 'Big Flat' as it is a big flat area high in the mountains where the inland tribes gathered to meet the coastal tribes. Rich in natural history and scenic beauty, this is the type of place one wants to check in, and 'check out'. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of the river rushing by as well as a multitude of songbirds and miles of majestic wilderness, there is opportunity for swimming, rafting, tubing, hiking, cycling, fishing, kayaking or just lying on the river view deck soaking up the sun in summer or snuggling by the fire in colder months. The house affords the ability to rough it in great comfort as it has full amenities while being off the grid, we have equipped it with solar power and propane appliances. Due to the solar power system capacity--- MICROWAVES,TOASTERS,, HAIRDRYERS and other resistance appliances will drain the system and cannot be used. In addition to the river being on the property there are several small lakes with good fishing that can be driven to. Also there are several lakes that are good backpack trips in the higher mountains. We also have a trail head to the Kelsey trail near the house. The Kelsey trail is part of the Pacific Crest trail. For more information see the Six Rivers National Forest map....many things to do.....if you see a bear just make some noise and he will run away......harmless......just don`t leave tasty smelling food out that would attract them......Jim

  • The secret waterfall was just beautiful. I'll save it for you as a surprise, but there's a map to it at the cabin. Never had an issue with power despite it being completely solar powered.

    Earl2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • My family stayed at Jim's cabin over a long weekend for my father's birthday. The cabin is exquisitely sited, the river is a short 2min downhill walk away. If you want to retreat into a natural surrounding then this place is hard to beat. It is also relatively convenient to access Redwood National and State Parks (roughly 45min to 1hr super scenic drive). We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

    James2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is incredible! Totally off grid. Access to the river, clean and fresh linens. Great communication. Solar panels powered our whole stay. In-hooking the family from electronics is priceless. Would gladly stay again and recommend. Very remote.

  • This place is so beautiful and amazing. The sounds of the river are right there in your ear the entire time! It’s beautiful and peaceful as well as in the heart of the Redwood Forest. Hikes all very close by! Rustic camping feel with all the pleasures of s cabin! Our kids absolutely loved it! From 23 to 5 they had a blast!!!

    Heidi2019-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Jim’s cabin is simply awesome. Full of amenities. Easy to navigate in and out. Fully off the grid. Beautiful location and very responsive communication. Definitely will be coming back!

    Christopher2018-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • You can't go wrong to "unplug" and connect with eachother, family and nature in Jim's place. This was our second trip; we'll be going back!

    Wrye2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • This rustic, very private, comfortable house is all about location - right above the gorgeous Smith river. We spent most of our time either hanging out on the deck or beside/in the water. Awesome Olympic sized swimming holes can be found a short walk (rock-hop) in either direction. This was a great place to be outside during our warm summer visit. If you are looking for connectivity (or luxury) this may not be your place. No cell reception within a half hour drive, no WiFi - we loved that!

    Zuza2018-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • We all need a break from the ridiculous age of distraction. If you wish for you or your family a place to connect with each other and the absolute luxury of no technologies to rob you of that connection we all crave and in a beautiful, forested, riverside pause in simplicity, this is it. Reconnect with who you love and what matters in your life.

A small, rustic, handbuilt cabin deep in Northern California's Six Rivers National Forest. Part of a remote, off-grid "village," including a few other cabins, chickens, dogs, frogs, cats, permaculture gardens and all kinds of cool, sustainable projects. Search Maitreya Mountain Village for a clearer picture of our sustainable living project.
A unique experience in a beautiful natural area, in an off-grid, sustainable, permaculture-focused ecovillage, nestled deep in the heart of Six Rivers National Forest. The hand-built Half-Moon Cabin is the more spacious of the two small cabins, with extra storage space and a comfy leather sofa section, a lofted lofted double bed and woodstove heat, as well as extra privacy down forested Village Creek Road. If you are visiting during the colder months, you'll love getting cozy in the Half Moon with the woodstove and extra hangout space for reading, playing games, or cuddling. We have wood available for sale at $5/bundle. •Kitchen: The outdoor kitchen, near your cabin, has a small propane camping stove, and plenty of pots, pans, and utensils for your use.
  • WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! Got in late despite knowing it would be a rough drive in but everything went fairly smooth! The half Moon was adorable and we loved having the little wood burning stove. One of the dogs, Happy, greated us and we convinced him to sleep in our cabin! We had cats, goats, and dogs to pet in the morning which was a HUGE plus! People working at the village helped us to fresh eggs and more! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to return!

  • A great place to stay and spend some time with yourself or loved ones without any internet or electricity. The hosts are super friendly and so are all the farm animals. My favorite part of the stay was getting to know everyone on the property and the visitors at the community center. This is a great concept and hope this place grows into as envisioned.

  • A wonderful unique experience in the mountains. Perfect for an off the grid quiet peaceful place but it is also close enough to the coast and the redwoods for some exploring. It gets much warmer in the summer than I expected.. my only suggestion to guests would be to bring a small battery operated fan to help circulate the air at night but other than that really spectacular!

  • Off the beaten path. The cabin was as expected with a comfy bed and everyone living/visiting was nice. Loved the drive up the narrow rough road into the forest and mountain!

  • Absolutely beautiful mountain retreat! Everyone at MMV was welcoming and friendly, and extremely accommodating. Enjoyed meeting residents and fellow visitors alike! Was great to get off-grid for a few days and explore the beauty of Northern California. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of regular life, and just switch off for a few days. As a seasoned camper, an additional bonus was having a hot shower in the morning. Personally wasn’t expecting to have this available, so was a really lovely surprise!

  • Great place to stay with an excellent location for being isolated and getting away from the busy world.

  • The half moon cabin is small and cozy. The bed is comfy, if soft. Read the hosts’s description of the property carefully; it’s accurate. If you’re looking for an unusual off-grid experience with goats, chickens, dogs, and a composting toilet, then you’ll like this place as much as I did. Don’t worry about the drive in, it’s a somewhat bumpy forest service road but my Hyundai had no problem at all (this might be different in other seasons). Very glad I took my 13 year old daughter here. So much more interesting than a hotel.

  • The tipi was magical. The campground was quiet and really clean. The bathrooms were really clean and nice. It’s a beautiful RV Park and you can tell they take care of it really well. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks so much!!

  • We loved staying in the teepee! So neat! The beds were so much nicer than other cabins and yurts we have stayed at. My favorite part was seeing the stars through the top as I fell asleep! Loved it!

  • This was the perfect place to stay overnight while we were in the area to hike! The hosts were fantastic and it was nice being able to purchase firewood! We enjoyed the decorative touches in the tipi

  • Magical. We felt secluded, comfortable, and safe in our environment. The campground was serene and we could see sparkling stars for miles. Glenn was a caring host and went out of his way to make us feel at home. Don't miss out on this gem.
