  • We had a wonderful stay in this charming property. The views & surroundings are stunning & the cottage is a perfect home from home. The fire was a real bonus & made the cottage so cozy & comfortable.

  • We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage is lovely and the location is amazing.

    Mike2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • It is a cosy cottage in a beautiful setting. Very chilled and it certainly feels a bit off the grid if that’s what you are after. Lots of lovely walks, fresh air and pubs .

  • Great little cottage. Has lots of amenities with a small but well stocked kitchen. Loved the fire on the cold December days. Ideal location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. We had a great few days at Lupin Cottage and really felt relaxed. We will be back.

  • Lovely little place in a peaceful remote location.

  • Was a lovely stay! Nice, cosy cottage that’s perfect for a little getaway. Definitely recommend!

  • If you want a cosy place with a good fire in a peaceful location surrounded by beautiful walking country then this is the place. Ruth was super helpful and attended to everything quickly. The house has guidebooks and games, good wifi and a small but perfectly functional kitchen. Ideal for us (family of four). Slept like logs. The village has no pub or shop (in case you arrive late) but there are good places in the surrounding villages. A good big walk is up Gunnerside Beck. A good smaller one is from Hawes to Hardraw Force. Thanks Ruth, we had a great time!

    Matthew2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage (with the cutest kitchen) in an exceptional location. So many options for walks/runs/cycles just outside the front door - highly recommended.

Make yourself at home in this spacious en-suite double room with stunning views of Swaledale. Nestled in the peaceful picturesque village of Gunnerside, you can start many beautiful walks (from gentle strolls to hikes) from the doorstep. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen and to enjoy the beautiful scenery from the garden. There is a cosy café and friendly local pub with good food just a few minutes by foot. Within a short drive are Reeth and Hawes (to visit the Wensleydale Creamery).
This is a quite rural village with a pub called the Kings Head (which is closed for now on a Monday night). There and two cafes with friendly staff. I like living here because you can step out the door for a lovely scenic with out bothering with the car. Unfortunately the Kings Head has closed, nearest pub is at Muker
  • Comfortable room with good view, I had no agenda except to rest and I definitely had a good rest this visit. The shower is very powerful! Only a few steps from the pub and access to lovely parts of Yorkshire, I was very happy here.

  • We had a fantastic time at Vivien's ! It was a fabulous place and Vivien was very helpful to us!

    Alfie2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing and very friendly host with a lovely house, plenty of room and very hospitable. Incredible views of the rolling hills too, which is a bonus to wake up to! The house is very clean, tidy and quiet. Vivien is very helpful with local information, especially if you don't know too much about the area. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely stop there again!

    Martyn2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Vivien's place was just what we needed to explore the Dales. The room itself was private, clean, roomy and we were free to come and go as we pleased. Vivien herself was very friendly and easy to contact for recommendations. Fantastic stay.

    Samantha2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • We've enjoyed our stay at Vivien's. it was very clean and spacious room with an amazing private shower and comfy bed.

    Katerina2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Is in remote place, with good view.

    Fen2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Vivien's home is in a lovely little village, situated close to all sorts of sights to see including plenty of waterfalls. Muker, another nearby village, is only a 15 minute drive down the road where we stopped to eat in the Farmers Arms pub (highly recommend). Vivien was friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much hassle. The room was clean and cosy. She even put a heated blanket on our bed, because we were chilly! We had a Scrabble board in the room which was a nice little bonus! The breakfast was nice too, simple continental breakfast; cereal, toast and tea/coffee which we could help ourselves to. I would highly recommend!

    Joe2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Vivien is a very lovely lady who made us feel like being at home. The village is very sweet and the walks and landscape around are just stunning!

    Fran2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A comfy, warm, cozy cottage. Great to come back to after wet and windy walks

    Elaine2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second stay in Burnside Cottage and it didn’t disappoint. We love the cottage - plenty big enough for our family of five and each room very cozy. Everything about the stay was great. Can’t wait to visit Burnside Cottage and Swaledale again soon.

    Don2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, spacious cottage with all the mod cons needed. Bed was comfy, the area nice and quiet and it was a great base for exploring the Dales. Most likely due to the time of year but there were a significant number of spiders lurking. There were a couple staples in the cupboard but no significant welcome pack, which would have added a nice touch after a long drive. The shower was lovely, hot and powerful and there was a deep bath to soak in. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and would stay again.

    Anneliese2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Burnside is the perfect cosy cottage for a holiday in Swaledale. Beautiful old stone cottage in a beautiful village. Heaps of character. Very clean. Heating warms the whole place up within minutes. The log burning stove also lovely to keep cosy. Kitchen and bathroom modern and well fitted. Wifi worked well to make up for the general lack of mobile signal in Swaledale. Well worth a visit.

    James2019-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as per the description. The cottage is very comfortable and excellent shower and bath facilities. A well fitted and sit in kitchen. Sparkling clean and firewood provided. The locals are so friendly and the cottage is directly opposite the pub which serves great beer and good food.

    Roz2019-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for photographers, walkers and wildlife watchers.

  • The photos don’t do this place justice really. It was perfect for our New Years get away and Graeme was very helpful and communicative. There were 5 of us and it felt both cosy and spacious, loved getting the stove going.

If you feel like a change then there are welcoming pubs in nearby Muker (3 miles) and Low Row (2 miles). Swaledale is walking country par excellence, whether you are in the mood for a gentle riverside stroll or a ‘grand day out’ on the breezy fells. Or if you prefer to explore from the saddle - bike hire and pony-trekking are both on hand. The excellent Dales Bike Centre in Fremington is 5 minutes from the start of the 12 mile 'Swale Trail', a low level, family-friendly cycling route along the valley bottom from Reeth to Keld via Gunnerside. By car you can visit any number of picturesque villages, bustling market towns or scenic beauty-spots and take your pick from Yorkshire’s famous (or lesser known) visitor attractions ranging from museums, historic houses, churches and industrial archaeology sites to waterfalls, caverns and gardens.
  • Christmas Cottage was a brilliant base for exploring the area. Plenty of room, especially nice to have a big kitchen in a holiday cottage. The kitchen had everything you could need for cooking or baking, but there is also a great pub across the road that does huge traditional pub meals! There are plenty of walks straight out the front door so no need to drive elsewhere to walk. The only thing I would say is to make sure you bring an extra jumper to sleep in if staying in winter as it can get very chilly, but the wood burner downstairs made the sitting room very cosy! Will definitely be coming back in summer sometime, and would really recommmend.

  • A great cottage in a stunning location. Friendly locals, a great pub across the road. Every comfort had been thought of.

    Charlii2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • A very clean cosy cottage with all the basics needed for a stay away from home - washing up liquid, dish washer tablets, washing machine soap, paper towels, loo rolls, oil, salt and pepper, tea, coffee and sugar! The fire starter pack was more generous than other cottages we've stayed on and wood burner was really effective. Lovely comfortable settee and chairs in the lounge and comfortable beds upstairs. We would really recommend a stay at this cottage.

    Vicki2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Christmas Cottage is comfortable, warm, clean and well equipped. The hosts are close by kind and helpful. Ideally situated for exploring Swaledale (direct from the doorstep) and further afield - so worth a visit!

  • I was very impressed and had a fantastic weekend walking the beautiful dales by day and enjoying the log fire in the evening (plenty of wood provided, one of many thoughtful touches) - it really is bliss. The cottage is very well set up for guests with various board games, books & DVD’s, it was sparkling clean and very cozy in a lovely village with lots of walks in all directions (plus cafes and soon to be open pub!) Ruth has put a lot of thought and effort into creating a fantastic Airbnb, you’ll feel right at home!

The village pub and tearooms are 50 yrds from the cottage door. Ideal for couples with pets or a family with two kids (max 3 adults)
Pretoria Cottage is a detached, stone-built cottage, with a cosy living room with a multi fuel burner, a modern, fully-equipped kitchen and a large pantry/utility room. Upstairs, there is a large, king size, master bedroom with dual aspect windows, offering lovely views along Swaledale. There is also a shower room/toilet and a small porch with room for boots and coats.
Gunnerside is a small, picturesque, stone-built village in Swaledale. It has a pub and tearooms, and a fish ‘n’ chips van visits every Friday evening. Gunnerside nestles in the heart of Swaledale, and from the front door there are numerous walks ranging from the gentle to the more challenging. It is also a popular area with cyclists. The village is 5 miles from Reeth where there are various shops, a bakery, the Dales National Park Tourist Information Centre, several pubs and restaurants, a Post Office shop, GP surgery and an ice cream parlour. There are many activities and sites in the area, such as waterfalls, the Hazel Brow Farm where you can also go alpaca trekking, Arklemoor Riding Centre, The Forbidden Corner (a novelty folly garden), several castles, limestone caves and caverns, to name but a few.
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the location was beautiful. We hope to be back in the future.

    Cathryn2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • We have had such a lovely, peaceful stay. We walked miles out in beautiful countryside starting from our front door, ate a hearty pub lunch just down the road in Reeth, enjoyed the coal burning stove on crisp Autumn evenings and got away from it all being out of WiFi and mobile reception range - EXACTLY what we needed! Lots of thoughtful touches including books, dvds and CDs, games for the kids and grown ups and a very well equipped kitchen. Many thanks and hope to come again!

    Felicia2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Ideal cottage for a waking and mountain biking holiday. The walks and bike rides in the area are fantastic. The scenery is breathtaking combined with the mining landscape makes it a perfect place to explore. Sitting room has a stone floor and coal fire and was invaluable for drying out wet clothes and boots. Local amenities in the village good. However slightly disappointed that the the village pub is closed and for sale. The one in Mucker is not far and the food is very tasty. Would recommend this cottage and area.

    Sarah2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Had a very comfortable stay at Pretoria Cottage and enjoyed some glorious weather to explore the surrounding countryside.

    Julie2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice place with a nice feeling to it. The accommodation is compact and has all the things you’ll need for a few days stay. I would highly recommend it! The village itself is beautiful with much walking to be had. The pub is friendly and the beer is well kept. They do a very nice fish and chips too! If, like us, you want to get away from all the rush and noice of the world then this is an excellent place to be. We had no internet and no 3G at all and it was lovely. Though they tell me that ee does work in the area, so pick up a SIM card if you need to before arriving.

    Pete2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • The location is very peaceful and the cottage is a lovely get away. It is just right for two people. There are 2 mini walks right close to the cottage we did in the evenings. There are lots of longer walks within 40 minutes drive away. On the practical side, we followed the advice from other people's reviews and bought an EE Sim to get some mobile coverage, which turned out to be a little patchy with a 'G' at the cottage. The local cafe has wifi and is good for sitting out when it is open. We went to Hawes for food shopping which is about 30 mins drive and there is a SPAR with basic necessities and nice bread.

    Shui2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage in a gorgeous scenic and peaceful location, cosy log burner and a comfy bed, would love to return!

Peaceful, comfortable and fully equipped cottage located in the village of Keld in beautiful Swaledale. Surrounded by stunning scenery, a perfect base for walking, cycling and touring the Yorkshire Dales. This quiet, rural location is perfect for getting away from it all for a few days. Keld is a tiny village at the head of Swaledale, one of the remotest and most beautiful of the Yorkshire Dales. The stunning natural beauty and remoteness of the area make it tryly unique.
  • Perfect cottage in the perfect place. Great for families with a great location in the Yorkshire dales. Will definitely be back.

  • Amazing place. One of the most comfortable beds ever and a wonderful spot in a beautiful part of the world

    Chris2019-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Helen's cottage is lovely - and even nicer than we were expecting from the photos . Tastefully decorated, surprisingly spacious, and we loved the underfloor heating and open fire. The living room is really comfy and a lovely place to cosy up when it's cold outside. The Kitchen diner is great, and again, big for a Swaledale cottage! There were some really nice touches like a comprehensive history of the house and area in the welcome pack, as well as loads of books about the Dales. We will definitely stay here again!

  • For those seeking to explore the 'Gods own country' that is the York Dales look no further. The Manse offers everything you could possibly need for a self catering break. Helen and i communicated a few times over emails giving any advise needed. The property is self check in via key safe.Where to start... firstly the Manse is quite a bit spacier inside than it looks from outside.Upstairs three good sized bedrooms well presented and spotlessly clean. The shower was very good, plenty of hot water and pressure.Down stairs a roomy dining area served by a narrow but completely adequate kitchen with all the utensils required. The lovely sitting room is the star of the show with open fire and comfy seating we spent our nights sat in front of the glow of the fire reading, chatting and playing chess (badly). To summarise 'The Manse' was homely and stylish and immaculately presented.I know we would return in a heartbeat. Keld is a little hillside scattering of York stone houses and whilst testing some's driving ability and nerves regarding the dramatic roadside drop off to get there was worth the journey on the strength of the views alone.

  • A delightful and cosy miner's cottage in a lovely situation above the village. We had a great week with lots of walks. Parking on the green is very easy. The local pub has recently shut and is up for sale. And the local Bistro no longer serves in the evening so the Farmers Arms in Muker is the nearest place to eat out now. • Briar Mede is an extremely well equipped, cosy cottage located in Gunnerside, within walking distance of the village pub (recently re-opened) where we had a pint and a good meal. The local walks are wonderful, and the cottage is warm and cosy to return to, which was especially welcome as we had chosen a very wet weekend for our short break. Overall, a great cottage which I'd hugely recommend to anyone who loves a peaceful, village retreat.

  • What a great cottage - the area is stunning, the views are stunning, the garden is great (even at the start of October!). I grew up around 40 minutes from the area and following our wedding my partner and I wanted an escape with our dogs for a few days - this was just perfect. Loads of great walks on the doorstep, great food at many locations within 10 minutes and the cottage itself is very well appointed. We would not hesitate in returning in the future!

  • Such lovely accommodation with stunning views over the dale. The decor was tastefully done with very comfortable seating area by the cosy wood burner. The bedroom and shower room both gave a 5 star feeling, especially with the bath at the bottom of the bed - loved it! Everything was sparkling clean and well appointed with everything you could need to make your stay complete. Louise was a very welcoming host and also left a basket of some local goodies, along with supplies of tea/coffee/milk etc. I would definitely recommend a stay here, it's perfect base to return to after exploring the Dales. Thank you Louise for a wonderful stay.

  • We had a lovely (if a little wet) weekend at Billy Gills. Very clean, lovely little welcoming touches and a good location to explore part of the Yorkshire Dales. Storm Dennis tried to get in the way but the cottage was a lovely place to hunker down in with the wood burner and the guidebook was useful for ideas when the weather turned. (And Lousie was very helpful negotiating the flooded roads!) Would love to return when the weather is brighter.

Good advice given by Terri on walking , things the do and places to eat. Terri was a great host and nothing was too much trouble for her, her kind personality shone through which made our stay away from home even better. The bread, eggs and milk are a great touch that was appreciated by ourselves and the cosy fire was just what was needed after a days walking, our dog appreciated the heat also !! Thanks again and we wouldn’t hesitate to book next time we visit Yorkshire, it was like a home from home .

    Steve2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Ow do? The Owl Barn is an outstanding place to stay, to unwind completely, and in my case, to also produce some original writing... which was very easy since the property is located in the most amazing, and peaceful Yorkshire Dales countryside. It snowed in the late afternoon when I arrived at the property. As soon as I unpacked my things I had to have the first of many walks from the Owl Barn, even though the Dales were darkening under the heavy snow shower, with night falling around me. There were large snowflakes floating past me as I tramped through the mud, but the landscape scenes around me at twilight were to die for - absolutely breathtaking and memorable! Which also describes Terri, the owner - not breathtaking, but memorable! Her welcome makes you feel you've known her for years, and she will do everything to make sure your stay is magical. You will devour the loaf of bread and her own hens' eggs she leaves you - they are absolutely delicious! Basically, what I am asking you to do... is definitely stay there! Enjoy the properties unique atmosphere, Terri's outstanding welcome, and have a wonderful, unforgettable time in the Yorkshire Dales. Peter

Many thanks Melanie, hope to see you again some time soon, Chris and Rona.

  • What a beautiful haven of calm this place is. Tucked away and private, surrounded by nature with bird song all around and wonderful views. It was tempting to stay in the hut for the whole weekend, we highly recommend this place. Mel and Stephen are warm and welcoming and were available if needed while allowing us privacy to enjoy our stay. Great breakfast, comfy bed and lots of lovely unexpected touches :)

Farmendon is a lovely spacious cottage in Gunnerside, with a big, private rear garden (south-facing) and lovely views towards surrounding hills. The house has three bedrooms, a double, a single and the master bedroom can be superking or twin, with the same great views. All the rooms have antique furniture, lovingly polished by the owners and the living room is light and bright with a bay window. There is a dining room, downstairs cloakroom and upstairs bath/shower room. Dog-friendly, free wifi.
Farmendon has its own parking space for one car, with other free public parking 30m away. The kitchen is very well-equipped, with dishwasher and fridge/freezer and in the little outhouse there is a washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as a rotary airer for the patio. The dining room seats 5 people comfortably round the oak table and the living room has comfortable sofas and a rocking chair. The bedrooms are all good sizes, again with antique furniture and the bathroom has a separate large shower enclosure, and there is a separate WC, as well as downstairs cloakroom. The garden faces south and is private, with terrific views past the chapel to the hills. Ideal for walkers, Farmendon has lots of walks direct from the door, including up Gunnerside Ghyll, perfect for walking the dog. The King's Head pub is open again, welcomes dogs and is a stone's throw from the house. Farmendon welcomes dogs, has free wifi and is a fantastic house for a holiday in upper Swaledale, the most beautiful of the Yorkshire Dales.
Swaledale is the most northerly of the Yorkshire Dales, and possibly the most attractive. There are plenty of tearooms, pubs and little shops in charming market villages and towns such as Reeth, Hawes, Richmond and Leyburn. Swaledale was on the route of the 2014 Tour de France, so is great for serious cyclists, as well as walkers.

  • Fantastic little hut. Especially enjoyed fire pit (once we got it going thanks to our thoughtful hosts). The pizza as to die for and the wine went down swimmingly. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for something a little special and different.

  • Had a really lovely night. Emanuela and Karen were both extremely friendly and the views from the cabin were fantastic. Definitely would recommend!

    tom2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great little space in which to truely appreciate the dales! Emanuela was an excellent host and made us feel really welcome, despite this being a last minute decision everything lived up to our expectations. Emanuela is also a great cook, don't pass up the opportunity to try the food on offer, the homemade bread is really tasty! Thanks again

    Andrew2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect place if you are looking for all the wild thrills of camping with a little extra luxury. We loved the homemade pizzas, cooking stew over the camp fire, eggs from the chickens in the garden and much much more :) Fab location for exploring Kisdon force waterfalls, Tan hill Inn and cycling over the rolling hills! We will be back 😊

    Amy2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Emanuela and Karen were wonderful hosts! The cabin was clean, cosy, and well decorated and they made sure we had everything we needed. The views from the picnic area are absolutely gorgeous! Eating Emanuela's delicious homemade pizza with wine and those views was spetacular. They gave great suggestions for hiking in the area as well! We would love to stay with them again.

  • This is a gem of a property. The owners are very welcoming and have added many lovely touches to enhance your experience of staying there. The cabin is warm and cosy with a deck to sit on providing views across the valley of Swaledale. We accepted the offer of home made pizza in the evening which was well worth the extra charge and was delivered to our door with a glass of red wine. The passive showers work perfectly well as does the composting loo. We thoroughly recommend this place.

Very clean and very well organised - you will find lots of information (i.e. walking paths, restaurants etc). Highly recommended place to stay.

  • Nowt but scenery, but what scenery there is, and such a comfortable, stylish and well equipped cottage to explore it from. Lovely Leyburn is 20 minutes by car, with good food, wine and a heritage railway. The drama of Aysgarth Falls, the Ribblehead viaduct and local walks were highlights of our trip. A combination of thoughtful hosts and fantastic clean and bright living spaces made this a wonderful place to stay.

    Keren2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila and Steve are on site and are very friendly and helpful. The cottage is convenient and comfortable, and well located for visiting the Swaledale Valley (Muker, Keld, Reeth) and for walking. The access roads are very narrow! Sheila and Steve were very friendly and helpful. The cottage is neat and practical with good books on the area and maps for walks. We visited Reeth, Muker, Keld, Askrigg, and Leyburn Bowes museum. There is an organic farm shop near Barnard Castle. The scenery is wonderful! We enjoyed our stay despite the cool weather.

The village of Bainbridge is located on the A684 between Leyburn and Hawes, near the meeting of the river Bain with the River Ure. At around two and a half miles in length the River Bain is said to be the shortest river in England. Bainbridge is known for its expansive village green which has some fine examples of stocks. Stocks were abolished as a form of punishment in the United Kingdom in 1872. The Roman name for Bainbridge was Virosidum and the remains of a Roman Forte are located just east of Bainbridge, on the other side of the river, on Brough Hill, where various Roman remains have been found A local custom in Bainbridge is the sounding of an ancient horn which was once used to guide foresters and travellers safely to the village from the surrounding Wensleydale forests. The horn is still located at the Rose and Crown public house and is sounded every night at 10 pm from the Feast of Holy Rood (27 September) to Shove Tuesday. Bainbridge has a local inn (the Rose and Crown), a small village shop with post office, a local butcher, a garage selling logs, sweets and newspapers, and a café (Mill house Tea room). There are other small shops, tea rooms and places to eat in just over a mile away in Askrigg. An equestrian centre offering riding lessons and local trekking can be found a short distance away at Gill Edge.
  • Very cosy and welcoming cottage, easy to find with plenty of instructions provided by the host in advance of arriving. Has all the amenities you would need for a short or long stay. Great location, very scenic and within reasonable distance of many places of interest. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider returning.

You can forget your car, the cottage is very quiet, the bedroom very cosy & a superb bathroom. A wood burner too which was perfect in our freezing temperatures this weekend.

Within the village there is a pub which welcomes muddy dogs and boots, a village shop, a super butchers and a tea room all within a gentle stroll of the front door. Supermarkets, a delicatessen, specialist coffee merchant, Wensleydale cheese factory, The Dales Museum and other facilities are about 4 miles away in Hawes. If you are bringing dogs, most of the pubs locally are happy to accommodate them and there is a good vet at Askrigg 2 miles away in case of emergencies.
  • The pictures don’t do this cottage justice. It is beautifully furnished with gorgeous artwork and feels like a real home rather than just a rented space. The amenities are the best we’ve ever had in an Airbnb cottage and we were very snug. The host Rachael could not have been more generous and thoughtful. The village has everything you need for a relaxing holiday in glorious countryside and Hawes is just up the road.

The views from the upstairs sitting room are mesmerising. Many of my guests say, 'Who needs a television with views from the window like that!' Watch the swallows swooping and the clouds roll. Take tea in the cottage garden, catch a glimpse of a distant tractor or follow the sheep. The cottage has two log burning stoves and full central heating making it so cosy from autumn through to spring. Curl up on the sofa with a book & a glass of whatever takes your fancy and leave the pressures of everyday life behind. Low Row is well placed to easily access all of the Yorkshire Dales. Hawes in Wensleydale, home of the famous Wensleydale cheese, is the next dale south and to the north discover Teesdale and the beautiful Bowes Museum and High Force (the highest waterfall in England). Or stay in beautiful Swaledale and visit Richmond to the east and the quaint villages of Muker, Thwaite and Keld to the west. So much to do - so many lovely places to explore, dozens of quiet walking trails and many good pubs & cafes to find. Visit the Punchbowl Inn in Low Row itself for excellent food and a well stocked cellar and the Farmers Arms in Muker; a true Dales pub with great pub food and a lovely atmosphere. The Overton cafe on Reeth green is a favourite as is the Muker Teashop (gorgeous Yorkshire Rarebit!). • The barn is a unique experience. Cosy, clean and amazing views in all directions. Being in the middle of two fields, our dog loved the freedom of running around and the fact there’s a pub at the bottom of the drive which serves delicious home cooked meals is an added bonus. Louise was a great host

  • Lovely location, well equipped kitchen, very cosy. Lots of great cycling and walking from the cottage.

  • We had a very enjoyable stay at Intake Cottage. Dorothy was very helpful and friendly. The Cottage is very cosy and the kitchen is well-equipped. There’s also a surprisingly effective coal fire for cold evenings. We had excellent weather for the whole week which meant we walked almost every day though we had planned to spend some time reading and relaxing in the cottage. We would definitely go again as one would never tire of the view.

  • Fantastic location

    Annie2019-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect Dales retreat. Spectacular views across the valley and a cosy little bolthole. Dorothy was a brilliant host and took the time to meet us and make sure we were settled in. Very comfortable bed and exceptionally quiet at night - so we both slept well.

    Ed2019-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Dorothy’s cottage is in a great location with fantastic views over the valley. The property was very well equipped with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable; there was an open coal fire which we sat around in the evenings and watched TV. The cottage is a great location for walking, we did two walks, one from Muker to Keld via Kisdon and the other from Gunnerside up to the old lead mines. There are loads of places to eat out in local villages and there is The Punchbowl just down the road in Low Row. We had a delicious meal there on our first evening. Dorothy is a great host and was waiting for us when we arrived to show us around and give us loads of useful information. I am sure we will be back!

    John2018-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely, cosy wee cottage! Stunning open fire, everything you could need in the kitchen and a very comfortable bed. The view is stunning and we really enjoyed taking it in with a cuppa in the garden! Dorothy is an excellent host, quick to answer some of my more random questions in the run up to check in. Low row itself is well situated for walking and taking in the various tourist attractions in the surrounding dales. It's a lovely, pleasant walk to the pub in the village, which has a well deserved reputation for its food!

  • Great one night stay for the road cycling world championships in Yorkshire. Very friendly and attentive hosts. The room and private bathroom are great and Rachel cooked up a wonderful breakfast in the morning. Just a shame about the weather which led to the route of the cycling race being diverted away from where we were!

    Tom2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel is a very welcoming host for whom nothing is too much trouble. We'd be more than happy to stay there again.... and again...! Beautiful part of the world.

  • Great accommodation and very helpful support even for meals that were not supplied by Rachel.

    Joachim2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel was a wonderful host! Her home is located directly on the Coast to Coast trail — a perfect stop off for walkers. Rachel makes you feel warmly welcome and comfortable. A delicious home cooked meal was a real treat after several nights of pub food. Would definitely recommend to anyone passing through Keld!

  • Rachel is a natural-born Air B and B host! She is a warm, friendly welcoming person who does everything she can to make you comfortable and feel at home. We were welcomed with tea and scones and she cooked us an amazing English breakfast in the morning which set us up for the day. She and John are a lovely couple and welcome you to their home like you are an old friend. Lovely comfortable room. It was a perfect stay and we can highly recommend Rachel's place to other travellers .

We are tucked away in a quiet, pretty location just off the village green in Bainbridge. We offer a spacious, modern one bedroom annex with private entrance & parking. The property has been recently renovated to an exceptional standard, offering modern accommodation. The annex is split over two floors, a large en suite bedroom on the ground floor with a spiral staircase leading to a mezzanine sitting room. There are tea & coffee making facilities, no breakfast, a tearoom just down the road.
It’s an ideal place to stay for wedding guests at Yorebridge Hotel, walkers or cyclists can store gear in my garage, and it’s perfect for those who want time in the countryside.
We are surrounded by open countryside, there are walks in all directions.
  • Diane’s annexe is a cosy bolt hole with pristine decor & comfy bed. A warm & friendly welcome awaited us & we were so grateful to be ‘rescued’ from storm Ciera’ as we were stranded en route home to the north east. We would thoroughly recommend a stay at this delightful property.

  • Spotlessly clean, very well appointed with tea/coffee (and biscuits) and a great tv/lounge upstairs in the mezzanine level, with a very comfortable bed and shower room downstairs. Check in was a very easy process and Diane was a very welcoming, helpful host. Great location for exploring the area, or especially if attending wedding or dining at Yorebridge House just up the road. Would highly recommend

Set in a small hamlet in the heart of Swaledale, Crackpot Cottage is the ideal place to experience the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. We are just 20 minutes from the Dales Bike Centre and adjacent to The Swale Trail, the Dales cycle routes and the Pennine Way. We are also on the Coast to Coast and the Herriot Way. Situated between Reeth and Gunnerside, we are surrounded by walks and a gentle stroll to the renowned Crackpot Falls and Crackpot Cave.
The double room and private shower room are upstairs at the end of the hallway, separated from the rest of the house by a thick curtain to give you privacy. The room includes a chest of drawers and a console table as well as a good-sized cabinet in the shower room. Tea and coffee making facilities are available for you to enjoy in your room.
Crackpot is a peaceful and quiet hamlet nestled in amongst rolling hillsides, with stunning views whichever way you look. We are a family-run smallholding. We grow our own fruit and vegetables and our hens provide us with fresh eggs daily. We also sell our eggs and homemade produce.
  • I would highly recommend staying here as the hospitality is outstanding and the place is full of character with amazing food.

    Jennifer2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is beautifully decorated and tucked away in a gorgeously quiet part of the Dales. Emma and Karen were perfect hosts, and couldn’t have been more accommodating - helping us out with a lift when the weather scuppered our walking plans. We can also highly recommend the pizza. Would definitely stay again.

A really nice lady and a wonderful home. Highly recommend

Our cottage is an attractive two bedroomed stone cottage in the small village of Burtersett. The cottage is comfortably furnished with the lounge having a wood burning stove. The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher and a washer dryer. The main bedroom has a king sized bed and the second bedroom provides twin bedded accommodation. The cottage has a downstairs shower room and upstairs there is a further separate WC. Outside is a seating area to the side.
Middlegate Cottage is in an idyllic location where you can truly relax and unwind with your family. This semi-detached holiday property lies in the quiet, peaceful village of Burtersett, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and has been thoughtfully designed especially for holiday makers who wish to explore the area. Guests will enjoy the stunning scenery of this distinctive Dales location. Rolling hills, quaint villages and traditional village pubs are all within easy reach. There are excellent walks close by along the Pennine Way and also trout fishing available locally. The bustling market town of Hawes is a 5-minute car ride where you will find the Dales Countryside Museum and Wensleydale Creamery, home to Wallace and Gromit’s favourite cheese, along with a varied selection of shops and eateries. Nearby Semerwater, which is a large natural lake, provides a wealth of water activities such as swimming, fishing and sailing. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile. More about the area: It has given its name to one of Britain's finest cheeses, but Wensleydale has so much more to offer. This is the valley of the River Ure, part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and a popular destination for walkers and hikers. As well as the rolling landscape of the valley itself, Wensleydale is overlooked by the distinctive flat- topped hill of Addlebrough, above the village of Bainbridge and Penhill, which stands guard over Leyburn. Wensleydale's dramatic scenery is dotted with ancient towns and villages, offering a great range of shops, pubs and tea rooms. Hawes, at the head of the valley, is the centre of the famous cheese-making industry and home to the Wensleydale Creamery (a firm favourite with Wallace and Grommit) as well as the famous Hawes Rope Makers, while Hardraw is home to Hardraw Force, the highest single drop waterfall in England which is accessed through the famous 'Green Dragon' traditional inn. Just a few miles down the road at West Burton you will find the beautiful Cauldron Falls, famously painted by Turner on his trips to 'The Dales'. At Aysgarth, the River Ure tumbles down a limestone staircase at the beauty spot of Aysgarth Falls, famously featured in the blockbuster Robin Hood; Prince of Thieves. Aysgarth also hosts a National Park Centre full with helpful staff and information to ensure that your visit to the area is memorable for years to come. There are many other fascinating towns and villages in the valley; hidden treasures abound as the Ure flows eastwards. Middleham, with its castle, was the childhood home of Richard III while at West Burton, you can visit the famous Cat Pottery. Just a stones throw away you will find the challenging Yorkshire Three Peaks; Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough for the more adventurous types and after the hard day exploring the peaks then why not stop off at The Station Inn at Ribblehead Viaduct for refreshment before heading back to the cosy Middlegate Cottage. Although a walker's paradise, tired feet can let the train take the strain with a trip on the Wensleydale Railway. Heritage steam and diesel trains run along 17 miles of line between Redmire and Leeming Bar at the eastern end of the dale. Don't forget the famous Buttertubs Pass, a great walk that leads from Hawes and Hardraw, over a high moorland pass and down to neighbouring Swaledale.
The cottage is situated in the quiet hamlet of Burtersett right in the heart of Wensleydale with the most stunning scenery and just a stones throw away from Swaledale.
  • We stayed in the property in early March. Everything we needed was present for our short stay, which we very much enjoyed, despite the weather. Great walks on your doorstep in the small village of Burtersett, with Hawes only being a short drive. We enjoyed the recommendation to visit the White Hart pub, which we enjoyed. Great communication from the host, Pamela also. Thanks

    Mark2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was just like the photos and as described. It was a great little cottage to spend a bitterly cold weekend in the Dales! The log burner was a brilliant addition and it was very cosy.

    Sarah2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage and very accommodating hosts. Great location just outside Hawes, would definitely recommend

    Jack2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great time. Would really recommend Pamela’s cottage.

    Rebecca2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was exactly as described and even more spacious than the pictures suggested. Although there are no amenities in Burtersett itself, Hawes is a 5 minute drive or 15/20 minute walk away and has everything you need. The facilities in the cottage were excellent and we cooked both dinner and two cooked breakfasts with no problems at all. Everything was sparkling clean and very cosy. We will definitely consider Pamelas house again in the future!

    Emma-Louise2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Well presented property, everything you could need is provided. Pamela is extremely quick to answer questions and Hawes is a lovely place to spend a weekend.

    Nick2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely little cottage close to Hawes which we used as a basis for some great walk. Very cosy!

    Bec2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cute little cottage in a quiet area. Everything you need plus hawes is a short half an hrs walk from the house. The only thing we found a problem was the parking but apart from that it was perfect.

We have loved creating this very special getaway for two here in beautiful Swaledale. Our shepherds hut is located in an idyllic private location with far reaching views of Swaledale. All the feelings you have as a child making dens and wanting to sleep out in them have been fulfilled ( be it a little more luxurious!). Whatever time of year, a cosy retreat awaits you with underfloor heating and a wood burning stove, luxury bedding, cosy sheepskins.
Our shepherds hut is located in a really private secluded location. It’s cosy and warm so can be used anytime of the year. It has underfloor heating, sheep’s wool insulation and a little wood burning stove. A little bathroom with locally made handsoaps, great shower ( with full tank, not an electric shower ) ensuring a more powerful shower and view of a gill ( small waterfall). Lay back and enjoy the view , the night skies are starry, the owls hooting creates a real atmosphere and a complete magical experience. Quality bedding , carefully chosen interior decorations make this space unique. The views are amazing and walks along the Swale can be accessed by walking down the hill, fabulous circular walks . Great local pub, 10 minute walk away. Fish and chip van goes through the village on a Friday, so guests can pick up a chippy tea!!!
Low Row in Swaledale is a beautiful old Yorkshire Dales village, we have a wonderful pub about a 10 minute stroll away. There are fantastic walks from the hut in all directions, there is also a little bus service taking in other villages should you prefer not to drive. Further cafes, pubs, craft rooms, bakery etc can be found in Reeth, approx a 4 mile drive away.
  • The shepherds hut is absolutely beautiful in a stunning location. The attention to detail in the hut and the little extras such as local bread, jam and eggs makes this a really special place to stay, and yes as everyone else says the bed is really comfy. We will look forward to staying here again. Thank you Louise for creating such a wonderful place.

    Jo2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place to stay! The space is stylish, clean, and has everything you might need for a comfortable weekend. The setting is absolutely beautiful - the dales were snow capped when we stayed which was stunning. Louise is an extremely welcoming host and was easy to contact if we had any questions. We hope to return soon!

  • Wishing we were still in this gorgeous Shepherds Hut! My husband and I really didn’t want to leave after such a wonderful stay. Everything was amazing! The hut is so cozy and inviting - the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day of exploring the Dales. The wood burner is such a treat! We loved waking up to the stunning view in the morning and watching the wildlife as the sun rose over the fields. The bed is sooo comfortable and we had the best sleep! The hut is full of thoughtful touches from fresh bread and eggs, to books and dominos, and even a pair of binoculars! Louise and Davidwere such friendly and welcoming hosts. They were so helpful and gave us great local tips. It was such a special place to stay for a romantic and relaxing getaway! I can’t recommend it enough! Thanks so much Louise and David! Really hope to come back again one day!

  • We stayed in the hut for a very special weekend and it was perfect. The hut is so cosy and on the most amazing location. If you think the pictures look good the reality is even better! Thank you for a great stay.

  • The most beautiful little hut in equally beautiful surroundings. Lovely touches from Louise that made it extra special. Things to do in around the area - take the recommendations from Louise on where to eat!! Lovely, cozy and relaxing

  • What a lovely, unique and enjoyable stay. The shepherd hut is luxurious, spotlessly clean and decorated to a very high standard. There are really nice touches, from local eggs & bread left by Louise to a very good quality mattress (one of the best we had ever slept on!). Louise is a wonderful host. Very welcoming, informative and lovely. Highly recommended - we will definitely return!

    Steve2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Louise and her husband has an incredible place that I will be recommending to all! Stunning location, both well isolated and with great views. You can even watch a waterfall from the bathroom! Excellent hosts who go above and beyond, providing help where required, and quickly too. Thanks Louise!

  • We chose the shepherds hut in Low Row specifically for the location, a rural and quiet spot with a wonderful view. The hut is finished to a high standard, with everything you need. Louise the owner was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We had a welcome package of milk, eggs, jam, bread and hot chocolate spoons, all from local suppliers and very nice! We would definitely stay here again.

Nestling on the side of the valley in the village of Low Row in Swaledale, this 8 bedroomed, period country residence offers spacious and exclusive accommodation for up to 15 people. It also provides the perfect venue for special occasions and events.
Large Georgian style home with loads of space inside and out, within the Yorkshire Dales National Park so great scenery, walks, waterfalls, village pubs, quaint, cafes and shops. Rural location and fantastic local food. Great for short breaks, birthday parties and get togethers
Small friendly community, most people know one another and are happy to recommend walks or places to eat or visit
  • Wow - the location and views are spectacular! Catherine is a warm welcoming host: lots of little above and beyond touches like flowers in the rooms and an opportunity to go llama feeding for the children. The house is spacious and luxurious and our large group of 14 filled the house but never felt on top of each other. Thank you for a brilliant Easter weekend!
