Places to stay in Galashiels
The Tower rooms are in a refurbished historic defensive tower (dating from 1574) providing a mini castle experience. Through a huge stone entrance, into an inner panelled entrance hall and through a private door up an ancient and narrow staircase to a tiny sitting area with shower room and kitchenette off. Finally up again with a spiral stone staircase leading to a romantic and secluded upper chamber. Medieval and bijoux - a micro experience of being a Laird or Lady of the House for the night.
We are based by the River Leader (also known as the Leader Water) in an exceptionally beautiful part of the Scottish Borders. The locale is littered with monuments, fine walks, stately homes, lovely shopping towns like Melrose and St. Boswells, hills to walk up and beautiful scenery. All this within an hours journey to Edinburgh by car or by train.

  • We had a great time here. Almost don’t want to say that as we’d be worried it would be booked up next time we come up! Had everything we needed. Really comfy beds, can’t fault anything.

  • We had a lovely weekend, the flat had everything we needed and more. The hot tub and all of the other amenities were great and the place was immaculate! Location was great for a quiet get away with the option to go for dinner and drinks 2 mins away in Innverleithen, the Taquair Arms Hotel does lovely food for anyone looking for a meal out! We’re already planning another trip in Summer 😊

  • James has put together a really wonderful space. It was the perfect environment to relax, whether indoors or out. It's well kept to an excellent standard, and James certainly goes the extra mile in providing additional amenities or answering questions when needed. Couldn't recommend it highly enough - we'll certainly be back!

A light and airy spacious timber cabin built 5 years ago. It is in a very quiet location amid the fields and woods of our farm, situated in the garden of my house, once the residence of the Head Gardener for the 1000 acre Whitmuir Estate. It is situated off a private road which leads only to the farm and cottages. Cooking facilities are microwave, mini-cooker with two rings, frig and sink. Beds will be made up as king size double unless two singles requested prior to arrival. Pets are welcome.
The situation is good for those travelling on either of the two north-south main roads - A7 and A68, as the house is between these two main roads, and 5 - 10 minutes from each. The location of the Cabin is perfect for guests with pets, miles of dog walking country from the door. We have a private loch just 200m from here which is an SSSI. Golf course 2 miles away
All the adjacent properties were once part of the family estate, but the Whitmuir hamlet now has a few new houses, and self-catering properties. Surrounded by woods and fields with a good variety of birds and wildlife it is very peaceful, yet only 5 minutes from Selkirk . Other nearby towns are Melrose, St Boswells, Galashiels Hawick, Kelso and Jedburgh - all within less than half an hour's drive.
  • Just perfect. Cedar Cabin is a little gem. Has everything you need for a perfect break away. Stunning views to look out on. Spotless, well equipped and a wonderful supply of breakfast items. The bed was super comfy too. Hilary was the perfect host. We will certainly be returning.

  • We booked this stay for when we were visiting Kelso, absolutely great. For the price you can’t complain! There was even breakfast. It was easy to find on the sat nav. Lots of little extras in the cabin. We ordered a takeaway at night. Warm, cosey, beautiful.

  • Would highly recommend Hilary’s place. Beautiful cabin with beautiful views

    Hayley2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Cedar cabin. Cosy, bright and private. Even though owner just next door you don't see her house, only fields. You get the sun all day and the enclosed garden great for the dog. Would be nice to go in the summer so can sit outside - looks like it will be a lovely garden with lots of flowers. We were lucky enough to get the use of the field next door as no cows in. Dog loved romping around! Very generous breakfast provisions and a great shower! Hilary also kindly let us store our bikes in her wood shed. Overall a good base for exploring the borders.

A traditional stone built home with open plan living/ kitchen area, with shower room and toilet. Tea & herbal, coffee, sugar and milk are provided for arrival. The shower is wonderful, we are told by guests that this is so important, especially when working, a great start to the day. (Please note it sleeps 2 comfortably and has an additional fold out bed in lounge) The lovely apartment has all mod coms with a flat screen TV, DVD player with a selection of DVD's and a Bose bluetooth sound system. It's a cosy homely apartment. A short walk that takes you past the beautiful river of Galafoot a 10-15 minute walk from the town centre including the new railway station (the train takes 50 minutes to the centre of Edinburgh). Driving from the apartment to Galashiels town centre takes 3-5 minutes.
Quiet and close to Heriot Watt University, the Borders Railway and Town Centre. Galashiels is one of the larger towns in the Borders and we are situated a short drive (3 minutes) or a walk (15 minutes) from the town centre and rail and bus links. Galashiels has many shops, we love to shop local but there is a 24 hour Asda and Tesco. There are great pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes. And for entertainment there are parks, a cinema and a swimming pool. Other town and villages nearby are Melrose, Selkirk, Jedburgh, Kelso, Hawick and Peebles. There is a train to Edinburgh which takes 50 minutes. Places of interest include the Melrose Abbey, Abbotsford House (home of Sir Walter Scott) and much more. Surrounding towns are Melrose, Jedburgh, Hawick and Kelso. There are also many wonderful scenic walks in the Scottish Borders and our town is renowned for fishing, rubgy and biking trails.
  • This apartment is cosy, lovely decorated, very well equipped. We loved to stay there and explored Scottish Boarders and Edinburgh (convenient train connection, which takes about 50 minutes, 12 minutes walk to the station). Paula is such a perfect host! She picked us up at the station, showed us the accommodation and was always available. She gave us so many tips! It was wonderful - much more than you expect a host would do for you! We will definitely come back!

FREE WIFI INTERNET A beautifully presented, light and airy, modern first floor holiday apartment in the village of Tweedbank in the Scottish Borders. Situated just two miles from the picturesque town of Melrose and a short walk from the River Tweed and Abbotsford House, the stunning home of Sir Walter Scott, it is an ideal starting point for exploring the towns of the Scottish Borders and the beautiful surrounding countryside. The apartment is within walking distance of Tweedbank railway station, and in under an hour you can be sightseeing in the heart of historic Edinburgh! It is also ideally located for fishing in the River Tweed, cycling and golf, and for visiting the many historic houses and castles in the area. Weavers Linn is surrounded by excellent walking country, with the Southern Upland Way and the Borders Abbeys Way passing through the village itself. The apartment sleeps four and has two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with a king-size double zip and link, which can be converted into two 2' 6" beds on request), a fitted kitchen and a bathroom with bath and shower over. It has a spacious sitting room with a dining area and French doors leading to a Juliet balcony, with open views towards the hills beyond. NB the rate per night is variable depending on the time of year, please check the calendar for details.
ABBOTSFORD, the home of Sir Walter Scott, is less than a mile from Weavers Linn. The Visitor Centre, where you will find an exhibition of the life and times of Sir Walter Scott, restaurant, play trail and estate paths, is open all year round and free to access. The house and gardens are open from March to November. MELROSE lies in the Tweed Valley at the foot of the distinctive triple peaks of the Eildon Hills. Its ruined 12th century abbey, at one time probably the richest in Scotland, is the burial place of the casket believed to contain the heart of Robert the Bruce. Just along the road at St Boswells is Dryburgh Abbey, whose ruins are still remarkably complete. Look out for the final resting place of Field Marshall Earl Haig and Sir Walter Scott, as well as a 22 foot high sandstone statue of 'Braveheart' himself, William Wallace, at the end of a woodland walk. Nearby is the famous Scott’s View, which is a viewpoint overlooking the Valley of the river Tweed and which is reputed to be one of the favourite views of Sir Walter Scott. Just a few miles away the picturesque country town of KELSO, famous for its racecourse, lies in a fine setting at the junction of the rivers Tweed and Teviot. The spacious town square claims to be the largest in Scotland and at its centre is still the Bull Ring, a reminder of past market days. In Kelso you will find Floors Castle, which was built for the 1st Duke of Roxburghe in 1721 and is Scotland’s largest inhabited Castle. The Royal and Ancient Burgh of JEDBURGH, which is dominated by a magnificent 12th century Augustinian Abbey, was home to Mary Queen of Scots during the autumn of 1566. The Visitor Centre has one of the country’s richest collections of pictures and objects of the life of the tragic queen, including her death mask, which is said to have been taken from her body at Fotheringay Castle. The towns of the Scottish Borders are home to one of the oldest equestrian festivals in the world, the Common Ridings, which take place during the summer months and pay homage to the region’s tumultuous past and celebrate its unique identity. The history of the Scottish Borders is deeply entwined with the turbulent era of the Borders Reivers - raiders who ruthlessly pillaged the lands on either side of the Anglo-Scots border from the late 13th to the early 17th century. At Common Ridings festivals throughout the summer, today’s residents commemorate the times when their forbearers patrolled the boundaries of their settlements on horseback defending against these fearsome marauders. This spectacular display of horsemanship and community spirit takes place in eleven of the region’s towns, with the oldest ridings belonging to Hawick, Selkirk, Langholm and Lauder. From May to August hundreds of riders saddle up for their respective territorial trots led by a standard bearer, usually elected by his local community. In some towns, the festivities can last for up to two weeks with a riveting programme of rideouts, barbeques, traditional sports, games and music, all wrapped up in the unforgettable pageantry of the Common Ridings. Wide open spaces and sensational scenery make the Scottish Borders the perfect place for walkers all year round, whether it’s a gentle stroll by the beautiful River Tweed, or something more demanding. There are some 1500 miles of dedicated walking routes including the Borders Abbeys Way, the Southern Upland Way and St Cuthbert’s Way, stretching from the high moorlands around St Mary’s Loch to the rugged coastlines of Berwickshire. And when you’ve seen everything that The Borders has to offer, why not hop on the train to Edinburgh!

  • We very much enjoyed our week's stay in Phillippa's flat. It was just as we expected from the photos and description - bright and airy and with everything we needed. Towels, crockery, cutlery, salt and pepper, cooking oil , tea bags, iron and ironing board, all household and cleaning implements were ready for use. The bed was very comfortable, and as we took our own bedding for the sofa bed, that was comfortable too. Everything worked well - shower, heating, cooker. And instructions for use were in the kitchen drawer. We didn't manage to master the tv but that was our fault not Phillippa's as instructions were clearly available. When we had one real problem in the flat, about the door key, we found it easy to contact Phillippa who had it all sorted out very quickly, with very little inconvenience to ourselves. Very close to the swimming pool, and a park which leads through to woodland and hillside walks. Within easy walking distance of all major (and minor) shops. Overall a very good place to stay in Central Galashiels.

  • Beautiful cottage and situated close to the town centre but doesn't feel like you are because situated on a nice quiet street. Lots of things to do in the local area but as the cottage was so nice we enjoyed staying in as well.

  • Absolutely brilliant find! The cottage itself was lovely, clean, warm and with nice thoughtful touches all through. Everything you might need in terms of utensils etc in the kitchen too if you're self catering! Paula was a fantastic host too and nothing was too much hassle - even giving us board games and bringing extra wood on the coldest snowy day! Would definitely stay here again or at any of her other properties.

Really good experience, everything was ready and easy to check in/out and after a long day out in january nice to come home and put yr feet up in front of the fire and watch tv. • Very good location, nice and clean with well thought through kitchen. She left us a bottle of wine and chocolates as it was Christmas, which was a very nice touch.

Penthouse light two bedroom flat, in the centre of the Beautiful Borders. Two good sized bedrooms rooms offering a clean and comfortable stay with a balcony.
Modern, comfy with everything you need.
Park with Loch just opposite, with shop and restaurant
  • Great place to stay! Everything was brilliant, comfortable bed, nice kitchen and bathroom. Could have done with more utensils/knives in the kitchen and a bigger TV but I will definitely be staying again if I am in the Borders!

  • The second time we have stayed at Humphrey’s place in Tweedbank. Location is perfect to get out and about in the Borders and flat itself is immaculately clean and fully functional. Highly recommended.

    Dave2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • This flat is cosy and well equipped with comfortable beds and lovely countryside views. It is a mile from Abbotsford House....an easy walk.. which is well worth a visit. It was very quiet at night and the bedrooms have great blackout curtains. Nearby, is a restaurant and a wee shop where you can buy milk, wine and some tins and packets. Melrose and Galashiels are nearby...a short bus or car ride and there is an hourly train service to Edinburgh which takes about 1.5 hours. There are many good walks locally . There are printouts in the flat. As you can tell, I have had a very happy, comfortable stay.

  • Fantastic value, cosy and clean

    Greg2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The flat is cosy, quiet and warm, and had everything we needed for our stay. Well-located for Melrose, Abbotsford, Jedburgh, Selkirk and Kelso. If you’re a tourist, be aware that a few places nearby - like Floors Castle - have an extended low season and may not be open Oct/Nov - Spring, or might only be open weekends. Would happily stay again/recommend. The locale is also nice, safe and quiet.

    Claire2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is in the perfect location in the Borders. Everything you need is so close by. The best part was the view from the balcony, which was so beautiful! I would definitely stay there again.

School Cottage is located in the picturesque village of Gattonside, a 10 minute walk from the centre of the historic town of Melrose. Ideally situated for sight seeing, walkers, cyclists and people looking to fish the Tweed. You can enjoy the stunning scenery with access to the Eildon hills. A short drive away is Tweedbank where you will find the train station that travels to Edinburgh Waverley. The journey takes about an hour also stopping at other destinations on the way.
The cosy Cottage has an entrance hall which leads into the living room, kitchen and dining area. The living room has a wood burning stove, comfy sofa and tartan chair. The kitchen is well equipped with a dining table. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one double the other single along with a recently renovated bathroom.
Gattonside has two award winning restaurants and Melrose several cafes, hotels, restaurants and shops.
  • The school cottage is a lovely space to relax for a few days. Anne has put a lot of thought into the house and as a result we had everything we needed. The house is warm, the bed is comfortable and there are plenty of towels, blankets, etc. It's only a short walk into Melrose and there are outstanding walks virtually on the doorstep. We often visit the area and would definitely stay here again if it's available, although I expect it will book up quickly.

    Elisa2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • School Cottage offers lovely accommodation in beautiful surroundings. For us, Melrose itself didn't offer a great deal as a town though it's a fab base for some great walks. We did enjoy eating out at Burts and Monte Cassino though.

    Susan2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely and homely cottage in a lovely location.

    Gavin2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Anne’s place was just wonderful. We liked it so much we even wanted to stay for longer, but unsurprisingly it was fully booked! The cottage is a real home from home, with everything you need for a relaxing break. It’s really cosy and stylish, Anne even made sure to put the heating on for us before we arrived (it was a very cold day!).

    Maria2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time during our stay. The cottage was in a great location and we particularly loved the log burning fire. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again

    Robert2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a peaceful, quiet, home away from home while visiting Gattonside, this is the perfect cottage. Anne has thought of everything when setting it up: reliable internet, a Nest system to control the heat so that you’re comfy no matter where you are in the house, a spotless and organized kitchen and bathroom so you don’t feel like you’re searching for basics, and homey decor that just adds to the cottage’s natural charm. Tucked away from the main road, we never once had any issues with noise and I had some of the best sleep while there. Check-in / out was also simple because of Anne’s communication. I would absolutely recommend this space for anyone who’s tired of hotels and wants the simple pleasures of feeling at home.

    Nicole2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place in a great location. Will be looking to stay again!

    Lewis2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is our 2nd visit to the cottage. Another lovely stay, beautiful cosy cottage with everything you could need. Excellent communication throughout. This visit we went to some of the local towns and a trip to Edinburgh via park and ride, which was both cost effective and ease of travel into the capital. Trip to the Italian restaurant in Melrose was a tasty with lots of choice.

Recently renovated about 2 years ago we class our house as very cosy comfortable and relaxing. We like to think our guests would experience that feeling too. We also have a second room for anyone wanting to book for bigger parties ( listed separately on airbnb).
Cosy comfortable sunny double room , tea and coffee supplied and shared bathroom (if other room occupied). Ideally situated for sight seeing, walkers, cyclists and people looking to fish the tweed. You can enjoy our stunning scenery. Easy access to the Eildon hills, and 2 mile walk to the beautiful town of Melrose . There you can visit the historic Abbey and enjoy lots of lovely coffee shops, bars and restaurants and join The Southern Upland Way walk leading through lots of border towns. You can also join the St Cuthbarts way walk at the back of the house enjoying a lovely stroll along the river tweed. There is a bus stop situated across from our house with services to various different villages and towns and directly to Edinburgh. A short drive away in Tweedbank you will find the train station that travels to Edinburgh Waverly which takes about an hour also stopping at other destinations on the way.

The guest room is comfortable and spacious with an adjacent shower room. It has its own separate entrance so you are free to come and go as you please.
The cottage is just outside St Boswells and is a centrally situated base for exploring the area and visiting the many historic abbeys and castles in the Borders. • Very peaceful stay close to the amenities of st boswells and close to some great walks . The accommodation is exactly as described in the website and great value for money. Marianne was very welcoming and helpful. She provided some oatmilk (after I said I didn't drink much ordinary milk) and granola for breakfast as well as ordinary milk and tea bags. She checked if I was warm enough too as the weather was a tad windy wet and cold. Very good hostess.

  • What a lovely little spot to stay! The stables Bothy was perfect for what we needed. The beds were SO comfy. We could have stayed there for weeks but alas, we only had one night. Easy check in and had everything we needed!

    Scott2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • The offering is a bit unusual in that it like a small apartment in a converted two story barn, with the kitchen, living area, toilet and stall shower downstairs and bedroom upstairs. It would not work for guests with mobility issues given the steep stairs, or for those who had to have a toilet and shower on the same level as the bedroom. But it worked fine for us and we really enjoyed our stay. Marianne is a great host and sent a detailed map on how to find her place (the GPS does not work for her address). I would highly recommend for travelers touring the area who want to have a bit more independence with access to kitchen facilities. It was well supplied with a fancy hot plate, various cooking pans, dishes, etc. The Borders are beautiful so it was a great spot for touring the area and visiting the abbeys.

In the heart of the Scottish Borders and nestled close to the market square in The Royal and Ancient Burgh of Selkirk, the apartment makes a great place to spend a few days or extended break while exploring this fabulous and intriguing part of Scotland. Selkirk itself has a fascinating history going back to William Wallace and more recently links with Sir Walter Scott.
Guest Comments 'This is a beautifully decorated flat and my daughter and I felt very comfortable staying here. We stayed here in February and needed to put on the heating. Luckily the owners had left very clear instructions how everything worked and it didn't take long before the flat was lovely and warm. The kitchen and living room are both spacious rooms and the beds in both bedrooms were very comfortable - beautiful bed linen from MS and a supply of fluffy towels. In the kitchen there is also a washing machine. Just off the kitchen is a separate dining room. The living room has a TV, DVD player and a record-player with an assortment of LPs! If you're looking for a holiday in the Scottish Borders, Selkirk is a lovely Borders town and I can recommend this property. The other Borders Towns are close by including Galashiels, Hawick, Melrose and Jedburgh, while Edinburgh itself is only a 40 minute drive or pleasant train ride on the recently reopened Borders Railway. Montrose House is so called because the Earl and Marquis of Montrose stayed here just before the Battle of Philiphaugh in 1645. He was known to be a brave and proven General but was nonetheless heavily defeated with huge loss of life, although he himself survived. There is a commemorative plaque of his stay on the wall of the apartment. The nearby Philiphaugh Estate has various trails and riverside footpaths along the Ettrick Water. One of the trails leads to the battlefield so you can imagine the scene of 5,500 men in the desperate struggle between the Covenanters and Royalists. The Estate offers more peaceful attractions as well which include a nice tearoom close to the Salmon Viewing Centre Sir Walter Scott best known as a writer, also served as Sheriff for 33 years and his legal connections should not be forgotten. The court house that he presided over is open to the public and only a short walk from the apartment and main town square. Walter Scott's life and times can be further explored at nearby Abbotsford house. The beautiful stately home of Bowhill House is not to be missed, only 3 miles from the town. The house is set in superb grounds with access to woodland walks to suit all and younger generations will have a whale of a time enjoying organised orienteering package and amazing adventure playground- ideal for children of any age and big kids too! The wonderful Borders scenery provides a super backdrop to lots of outdoor pursuits including golf, mountain biking, fishing on renowned rivers and lochs or following peaceful footpaths through the countryside. • Lovely flat, very well laid out, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The bed was super comfy, check in was easy and had more kitchen equipment than I could possibly have used in my short stay. Perfect location for shops and restaurants in Melrose and all the many walks in the area. I came by public transport (train Edinburgh - Tweedbank and bus from Tweedbank to Melrose) and it was super easy so definitely accessible without a car. Loved it!

  • Daniel's place was ideal for us visiting Galashiels for one night. Its right in the town so easy access to local amenities. The flat itself is electric heating only but it warms up very quickly and is efficient enough. Kitchen and bathroom have modern upgrades to them and the bedrooms are a good size, as is the lounge. Electric shower pressure isn't great but there's a bath if alternative required! Overall would recommend this place. Good value for money and very clean.

    Andy2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jan & Daniel's flat was clean, comfortable and a real home from home, with all the amenities we required. The village is lovely - there are several pubs, takeaways and food store down at the Co-Op. We enjoyed food from the chip shop round the corner, as were only staying overnight for a concert in Gala. The Red Lion staff and regulars gave us a very warm welcome, involving us in the conversation and making us laugh with their stories and frivolity. I'd definitely like to visit again and explore the surrounding area. Highly recommended.

    Graham2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The flat was beautifully clean and tidy with 2 spacious bedrooms. The kitchen had everything we needed and our teenage children appreciated the availability of WiFi! Great location to explore the Borders region.

  • Outstanding! Very high quality accommodation and excellent, friendly host.

    Martin2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Despite wild, windy and cold weather outside, this was a lovely cosy place to come back to after a day outdoors. The studio was cleverly laid out and well appointed. Everything was provided for a comfortable stay and I felt very at home here. There were lots of nice additional and thoughtful touches too. The bed was incredibly comfortable and, despite rain and wind battering against the windows at night I still slept like a log! It’s only a few minutes from the centre of Melrose where there are some excellent restaurants and hotels for food and good local shops. Bus links to other parts of the Scottish Borders can be picked up at the end of the road. Kerry’s communication was top notch and she very kindly drove me to the train station on check-out so that I wouldn’t have to stand about in the snow waiting for the local bus. I would happily make this my base in the Borders in future.

    Caroline2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • I was researching the area for some time to find a place that was good value and interesting to stay at for my girlfriend's weekend away with me. The Stables hit many sweet spots and can whole heartedly recommended it for those who want to stay in the area. Thanks to our hosts, especially for the recommendations for cafes and restaurant.

    Ben2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • I've spent a couple of nights a week here for the last few months and it's been nothing but outstanding. Has everything you need for a stay in the borders, and if there's anything you need, Kerry and Al are more than happy to try and help where they can. Will genuinely miss the place as I won't be working up in the borders as often now.

    Brian2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here with our little boy for whom Kerry provided a travel cot and his own baby towel too! The accommodation had everything we needed and was well equipped and spotless and also within easy walking of Melrose high street. It was comfortable and warm and the shower was lovely. Scones and jam were a nice touch waiting for us too. The sloping ceilings were ok for us but might be an issue if you're really tall. Kerry was really helpful both before and during our stay. Great host, great place - highly recommended!

My place is close to public transport. You’ll love the cottage because of the outdoors space and the ambiance. The cottage is ideal for couples. The Scottish tourist board rate our cottage as four star standard. You are in the heart of the country but only 40 minutes from Edinburgh and most of the Scottish borders towns. Rolling hills, lots of walking, interesting places to see historical, cultural and modern.
The cottage is warm and comfortable with views of the rolling borders countryside and direct access to the hills around. Recently renovated to a high standard this is a listed 18th century cottage next door to our house which used to an inn with a Robert Burns connection. The cottage has a garden with a decked area and barbeque and its own parking space. The living space has a log burner as well as central heating. The kitchen is fully fitted with Fridge freezer, cooker, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. The bedroom has a Superking sized bed but can be set up as two singles on request. No9 is ideally suited to sightsee in the Scottish Borders but is also very convenient for Edinburgh with very easy access.
The Scottish borders gives access to many large country houses, ruined abbeys and castles. Fishing, golf, walking and mountain biking are all available locally. There is beautiful countryside all around and yet you are only 40 minutes from Edinburgh by train or car. Edinburgh is a very vibrant city full of interest.
  • Great cottage that's perfect for couple or a small family. We took our baby daughter. The house was clean and has all the amenities that you would need. It's near small village Stow, that we didnt visit but we visited nearby Lauder and Galashiels town. We easily found some great pubs for lunches in both places. Lots great walks and historic buildings nearby. John was quick to respond and check in/out was a breeze. The small touches around the house were appreciated.

    Imran2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a cosy and lovely cottage perfect for couples or lone travellers. It’s easier to get around if you have a car but not impossible by public transport or even walking if you’re fit enough.

    Nigar2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the cottage, which is immaculately turned out and comfortable. The owners, John and Allwin, were incredibly welcoming and friendly and offered good advice about the area. They were waiting for us with the keys as we arrived and allowed us flexibility with our checkout. Moreover their communication was exceptional in the lead-up to the trip. The cottage itself is perfect for a couple, small but with all your needs catered for. There were lovely little additional touches - coffee and tea, shortbread, and milk all arranged ready for our arrival. If you're over six feet tall (as I am) you may find some parts of the cottage a little uncomfortable - particularly the shower, which you won't be able to stand up in, and the eaves of the roof in the bedroom can be a head-bang risk (which I did on more than one occasion). The open fire is gorgeous, though, and wood is readily accessible just outside the back door. The proximity of the road to the cottage makes for a slightly less-than-peaceful stay, as cars whizz past at 60mph, though we did stop noticing by the end of our stay. The road isn't safe to walk down, though it looks like there may be paths down to the village accessible by the back of the garden - we didn't investigate. The setting is stunningly picturesque, and the back garden being on a slope allows for lovely views when sat out in the evening.

  • We really enjoyed this little cottage. It was clean and very comfortable, It was close to many things I needed and was close to some great walking trails. John was very friendly and quick to respond

  • John was a great host and his cottage was great.

    Matthew2019-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem of a cottage! It's location is perfect to explore both the wonderful city of Edinburgh (get the train from Stow, saves having to park!) and also the beautiful surrounding country side. John is a fantastic host! He was always swift to answer my questions before the stay and always had sound advice. He was very welcoming on our arrival and kindly showed us round the cottage. The cottage itself is the perfect cosy get away for a couple. The space was clean and very well designed with everything you'd need in the kitchen and living areas. We absolutely loved it and would definitely go back, thank you again John and Allwin

    James2019-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at your cottage. Very welcoming and everything that you would need for a relaxing break, we enjoyed sitting by the cosy log burner even though the cottage was warm it created a lovely atmosphere. And the most comfortable bed we have slept in too! We found the folders full of local interest and days out very helpful. Well recommended Thanks John and Allwen

    Hilary2018-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful little cottage in the borders. Even though it is on the main road (making it super easy to find), the traffic didn't annoy us at all, and it still felt really peaceful and was a lovely place to switch off for the weekend. John was away for a couple of days when we arrived, so Allwin met us to check us in. She was incredibly kind and stayed up for our late arrival! The cottage itself is really wonderfully kitted out - a dishwasher makes so much difference to relaxation, and the bed (a ziplink king I think) was so incredibly comfortable! Great kitchen - small but perfectly formed - and lovely touches like a pint of milk in the fridge when we arrived, and a packet of shortbread on the tea tray. The Scottish weather put pay to our BBQ plans but the garden is also beautiful and there's a gate at the top straight onto the hills for keen walkers. Highly recommended!

Abbey Mill Perfectly located near the ancient ruins of Melrose Abbey (perhaps the name gives it away!) and the River Tweed, Abbey Mill is built in a quiet cul-de-sac with plenty of open space. Shops and restaurants are only a few minutes’ walk away, but if you prefer to go by bike, the safe lock-up garage provides the perfect storage. Lots of lovely walks including the three peaks of the Eildon Hills right from the door.

  • Linda was quick to respond and most helpful with accommodating my need for flexibility. The house is a beautiful, tranquil setting for a peaceful stay in the beautiful Scottish Borders. The flowers were a lovely touch to walk into.

  • We loved Linda’s place. Such a cosy home away from home. Would love to stay again - everything was just perfect and the beds were so cosy!!!! Thanks Linda for being a wonderful host.

  • This really was a home from home with everything we needed to feel completely comfortable and relaxed. perfect location and excellent communication as well as wonderful little touches that really made our stay extra special.

  • We had an excellent stay in this property. For Melrose it is very conveniently located, the town is literally round the corner. Be aware that Melrose is quite small so if you're looking for local amenities like restaurants and takeaways then it is a bit limited. The property is extremely well furnished, it really felt like a home away from home for the week. In terms of the kitchen it went beyond expectations with everything you could need to cook a meal. Linda was quick to deal with an issue which cropped up over our stay (doors were very creaky and the patio door had jammed) so that was a real positive. The property is showing its age a little bit and the photos aren't 100% representative of the property in its current state, but they are still very accurate. The fridge did have a faulty sensor and noise travels easily in the property so it did bother my parents by beeping in the night a couple of times. Overall though we had a great stay and I would definitely consider using Linda's place again in the future!

My house is a traditional 2 bed cottage in the centre of Lauder. Close to the rail link to Edinburgh and on the A68, 26 miles south of Edinburgh. The spacious, comfortable bedroom has a kingsize bed. All eateries and pubs are short walking distance.
I offer my guests a comfortable relaxed place to stay. I'm happy for guests to use the kitchen to cook meals and hang out and watch TV in the sitting room if they want to.
Lauder is a small quiet town in the Scottish Borders. There are good local places to eat and small independent shops to browse in.
  • Elaine and her husband, both made me feel at home. They are both very open and friendly people. Elaine, loves the whole concept of Air B and B, of sharing her home and meeting new people. The room was very spacious, and the bed very comfortable with ample number of pillows. I visited in the autumn and the room was well heated. I felt very welcome and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

    Peter2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • It was amazing accommodation with the most hospitable owners. If you have spare days it's the best place to spend and have a stop from Edinburgh and visit such places as Abbotsford house of Walter Scott, Melrose Abbey, Thirlestane Castle, and Leaderfoot Viaduct. Moreover, I have attracted to this tiny and cozy town where you can enjoy the authentic local atmosphere and grab delicious dinner and beer in a local pub. Finally, I want to say that I am extremely grateful that had a chance to be a guest of such nice people.

    Denis2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing 2 nights stay in this beautiful home. The room was spacious, very clean and close to the high street so just a walk away from local shops & restaurants. Will definitely stay here again.

  • A traditional stone terrace house. The bedroom is big and comfortable with tea, coffee and a sink. Very quiet, no traffic noise. The use of the kitchen was great, and being able to sit and chill while I ate in the sitting room.

    Nic2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Elaine is tagged as a Superhost and it is well deserved! Communication is perfect, you will be warmly welcomed and will enjoy the large and very comfortable bedroom at your disposal. I recommend strongly.

  • John and Amanda have thought of every little detail. The Attick windows are great. You can lay in the bed at night and watch the stars, or you can slide the skylight blinds to darken the room. The skylight windows can be opened for ventilation. I stayed in the winter. The room was well heated. The electric shower was perfect, there were plenty of bathroom towels. Everything was spotless. Breakfast was terrific. Both John and Amanda have put in a lot of effort to make me feel comfortable and welcome. Thank you both for a lovely stay

    Peter2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • John and Amanda were superb hosts and really went out their way to ensure it was a pleasant stay. I appreciate the flexibility afforded with check-in and the room is absolutely immaculate. We slept like logs, and got up to enjoy a simple but highly effective breakfast spread with Alison lays out. Many thanks for the wonderful stay and the best of luck with the Burger Van. If you approach it anything like you approach AirB&B then I'm sure it'll be a raging success!

    Luke2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • I have stayed at several Air B and B's throughout the UK. This is definetly one of the best I stayed.

    Peter2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay. Was sparking clean, John gave us some great local information. With a very thoughtful breakfast. It was a wonderful stay.

    Ebony2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • John and Amanda's facilities was like being in your own apartment. They gave privacy. The quality of the room bathroom facilities and breakfast style and cleanliness are of the same standard of a hotel. The room and facilities are far superior to a bed and breakfast. What more can I say other than thank you for a pleasant stay.

    Peter2019-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • John and Amanda are delightful hosts who are very welcoming and who made our stay a real pleasure. The room and ensuite facilities are very clean and comfortable and we would not hesitate in recommending them.

  • We had a great nights sleep and enjoyed the comfy bed. Really valued the tea and coffee making facilities in our room, it might seem a small thing but it’s a lovely touch for the weary traveler. Lovely sparkling clean bathroom packed with amenities if you forget something. Easy and safe parking outside too.

  • It was perfect for all 3 generations of our family and a real home from home. The caravan had everything we needed and more and the location and view were amazing.

    Darren2018-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the caravan. Everything was perfect for us! The view was lovely, the caravan was clean and welcoming and Virginia was a lovely and helpful host. The local area has lots to offer, with local amenities and countryside walks within a short distance. It's ideal for kids also; with a large open space out the front which is enclosed. My children ages 4 and 6 absolutely loved it. We would definitely recommend both Virginia and the caravan :)

My place, close to transport links, is a perfect base for a country or city break. Beautiful Edinburgh is only 50 minutes away by train (trains run from 6am till midnight). Situated in the heart of the historic Scottish Borders, the fully upgraded apartment was originally a 1920's bungalow. Why not relax with a glass of wine in the private garden, jacuzzi bath or snooker room or curl up on the window seat with a good book.
This lovely, spacious apartment has been renovated and improved to a high standard and is the ground floor of a family home with one double bedroom and one twin bedded room. The apartment was originally a 1920’s bungalow and some original features still remain, such as the floor tiles in the front porch and the fireplace in the snooker room. The large fully fitted kitchen includes a range cooker with 8 gas burners with 2 electric ovens and a grill, fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. Everything is provided to enable you to cook as much or as little as you want. The kitchen leads through to the open plan living and dining room which looks out on to your own patio/garden area overlooked by beautiful mature trees. The living/dining room includes a comfortable corner sofa unit with a recliner and a brand new 32” Smart TV. We have also recently installed a cosy gas stove. The dining table and chairs which seat 4 people comfortably look out on to the lovely mature garden and the patio doors can be opened in good weather. The garden and patio area for your own use, includes a rustic table and chairs for 4 people. The mature garden also includes pots of seasonal flowers and is a great place to have breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening (weather permitting!). A barbecue can be supplied on request. The luxury bathroom has been recently renovated and includes a Jacuzzi bath, luxury fluffy towels, a power shower and a heated floor and the snooker room at the front of the apartment includes a traditional snooker table and a couple of fridges to store cold drinks (so you don’t have to move through to the kitchen) : ) The comfortable double bedroom overlooks the front garden/terrace while the twin bedded room (with brand new hotel-style beds) overlooks the side of the house. Both bedrooms have a good amount of storage with large wardrobes complete with inbuilt drawers. A hairdryer is provided and is located in the double bedroom wardrobe. All the beds are comfortable with Egyptian cotton bedding. The entrance to the apartment is through a small side porch which includes coat hooks and is a good area to leave wet coats and muddy shoes and boots! There are two off road free parking spaces with this apartment and we provide free Wifi.
Galashiels is one of the larger towns in the Borders and we are situated a short drive (3 minutes) or a walk (15 minutes) from the town centre and rail and bus links. There are also local buses which can take you from outside the apartment into the town centre every half hour. Galashiels itself has many shops (including a 24 hour Asda and Tesco), bars, restaurants and cafes, parks, a cinema and a swimming pool and is a good base for travelling to the other major towns in the Borders by bus or car. These include Melrose, Selkirk, Jedburgh, Kelso, Hawick and Peebles. Or you can take the train to Edinburgh in 50 minutes on our brand new railway which opened in 2015. Places of interest include the abbeys of Melrose, Jedburgh, Kelso and Melrose, Abbotsford House, the home of Sir Walter Scott and many other stately homes, castles and gardens. There are also many wonderful walks in the hills, valleys and forests of the Borders and in Peebles there are wonderful mountain biking trails.

  • Aileen’s flat is very comfortable, lovely garden, very well-equipped kitchen (we cooked in every night we were there). Could not have been more comfortable, and wish we could take the eight-burner cooker home with us.

  • Fantastic apartment and great host.

    Lisa2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is an outstanding apartment, well situated for touring of the Tweed Valley. The apartment is clean, stylish and very well appointed (not many places have a snooker room !!) The hosts also have some lovely little touches, like an honesty box for beer and wine, and some lovely toiletries. I would not hesitate to book here again, having previously booked it last year. Five star accommodation

    Stephen2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic space we loved this place. Cosy and warm with stylish fixtures and fittings. Loved the bathroom with its wooden floor and light show. Beds comfortable and bedding like a 5 star hotel and lots of fluffy towels. Nice patio area which catches the sun. View of Eildons from snooker room. Whilst situated on the main road the apartment is very peaceful. Would not hesitate to stay here again and will recommend to friends. Aileen was a great host and and communication was excellent.

    Janet2019-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • Simply fabulous. Aileen is a wonderful host, friendly, courteous and always available. The place was beautiful, immaculately kept, and came with some lovely surprises - the perfect base for my weekend in Scotland. Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed.
