  • We were the first guests of Ivano and it was all wonderful. He made the whole house available to us and welcomed us as if we were part of his family. It was a great host despite having stayed only one night. When he woke up in the morning he also gave us a little thought: a jar of plum jam made by his mother. We can't wait to taste it! Really highly recommended. We hope to see you soon :)

  • House in a magical place as described. Strategic position because in the midst of nature but close to every convenience. Federica and her mother were precise and available.

  • Excellent cleanliness and location, very kind Sara very welcoming the house with attention to every detail!

    Noemi2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time. The apartment is on the ground floor, in front of a parking lot, central but not in the historic center, quiet clean, but really clean in every corner outside and inside the furniture. The entire apartment is furnished and finished with fine furniture, comfortable in every detail, from the ottomans in the living room, the large table, shoe rack, coat rack, TV everywhere, brochures, many pillows and extra blankets. A super hair dryer in the bathroom. Two huge bathrooms with extra-comfortable showers. The kitchen is equipped with everything, with all the modern appliances that for those of us with a baby have been helped by microwaves and dishwashers.

    Silvia2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Sara was very kind and helpful, she gave us good advice on the trips you can do in the area. The accommodation is in a convenient position to visit Sarnano on foot and to reach the services of the town. Despite the centrality of the accommodation, the area is very quiet and silent. The apartment is very nice, spacious and equipped with everything you need! The kitchen is very well equipped and for guests there is already something for breakfast. There are 2 bathrooms in the apartment, which can be useful if you are more than 2 people. We were able to take our little dog without problems, which is very important to us. At guests' disposal there are maps, maps and brochures of the events in the area.

    Jenny2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Sara offers a great space with all possibilities for a wonderful stay. She responds quickly and is flexible if you need her for whatever reason. Despite the heat outside, the temperature inside is pleasant to keep. Bed and bathrooms are nice and the apartment is fully equipped. What can be a disadvantage is that there are few options around the house to stay outside (terrace or garden). All in all highly recommended!

  • A lovely house, warm and cozy with lovely little details ... we especially enjoyed Leonardo's artwork! A peaceful space and a relaxing place to stay with lovely views from the back garden. We even saw a hare! Very comfortable with everything you need. Leonardo made us feel welcome.

    Roy2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very relaxing stay at Leonardo's cabin. We went in May, in between the ski and summer seasons and I think we were the only people in the small ski town! The house was very comfortable - a nice mix of rustic mountain cabin and comfort (cozy fireplace and updated kitchen and bathrooms, etc.). The hiking and views right outside the door were great. And even though we had one cold and rainy day, the cabin was so cozy we didn't mind it at all. Grazie mille!

    Karen2019-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous place for those who want to spend a few days away from the frenzy of the city. The view and the warmth of the fireplace fill with tranquility and harmony. Excellent welcome by Leonardo, unexceptionable host and very helpful. Recommended for those seeking contact with nature and silence.

    Barbara2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • Looking for peace and tranquility to relax, combined with a cozy and "warm" house surrounded by nature? You are in the right place! At Kumari only you are missing, the rest think Leonardo (welcoming, friendly and helpful host) and the beauty of the Sibillini Mountains. Hiking, mountain biking, motorcycling, ski slopes, you'll be spoiled for choice; if instead you just want to relax pampered by the ringing of cows and horses there are hammocks in the garden (perfumed) that await you, or the warmth of a fantastic fireplace inside the house. and many books available. What are you doing, are you still undecided?

    Alessandro2018-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The Kumari is located in a strategic position for those who want to discover the Sibillini mountains: the view from the terrace is priceless. The house offers all the comforts, including a convenient washing machine. The fireplace completes the mountain atmosphere we were looking for.

  • Our stay was a better than expected experiance. The bungalow was situated on the slope opposite bolognola ski resort. The hiking trails and countryside is beautiful. Leonardo's craftsmanship and Michela's art decorated the home, adding a special depth and beauty. A quiet place to rejuvenate.

    Joseph2018-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • We returned yesterday in the heat of the city after spending a few days in the cool of the Sibillini Mountains. In the evening at kumari, despite the month of July, we lit the fireplace with pleasure that Leonardo, a very friendly and helpful person, made us ready to use. The reviews of the guests who have preceded us describe every detail in detail: The house, which is located in a privileged position, all that offers the wonderful natural park of the Sibillini mountains and the special welcome, availability and above all discretion of Leonardo. We had a great time. The accommodation is very nice, practical and functional. I would like to point out that it is in a particular position and guarantees total privacy even on the outdoor patio and the garden, but above all it responds perfectly and in detail to the description. "No bad surprises" Our family was looking for nature, peace and tranquility, kumari is the right place.

    Enzo2018-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Leonardo was the perfect definition of a gentleman. Despite giving him late notice and changing our plans frequently (on holiday, we live on a whim), Leonardo welcomed us warmly and graciously! The house is the perfect mountain refuge. We were a bit concerned when we heard about the earthquake a couple of years ago, but there was very little of it to see on the way up to the place, and none of it in the home or nearby at all. All we got was perfect peace, quiet and a nice warm fire. Thank you, Leonardo

  • Double room in a spacious house, inhabited by an accommodating and kind motorcycle family. The room overlooks a corridor on which there is only one other room (not inhabited during my short stay) and the bathroom, which can therefore be used almost exclusively; in the room there is a TV. The house is tastefully furnished and equipped with almost all comforts (no microwave oven). Ask precisely how to get to the house, as following the links provided by airbnb you risk getting lost (they do not lead exactly to the house, a bit isolated and on a provincial road).

  • The house is in a very small village called Piedivalle , on the way to Santuario Madonna dell Ambro . Gloria is a very nice person. She and her companion welcomed us and showed us around. We were in permanent contact with her (via whatsapp), she always wanted to be sure that everything was OK for us. The house is cosy and very clean. Everything is modern and top quality. Kitchen is fully equipped (induction stove, dish washing machine , fridge, freezer, toaster, coffee maker, etc) We found a lot of supplies (crackers, marmalade and honey, biscotti, pasta, olive oil, spices, etc) The bathroom is big and very modern, with a walk in shower, with a lot of shampoos and shower gels and very clean white towels. The bedroom is pleasant, offering a beautiful view to the mountains. We slept very well in the comfortable queen size bed. There is no balcony or terrace, but you are in the middle of nature, as soon as you step out of the house. We didn’t have any GSM signal in the house, (we had to go about 100 meters outside, on the road, to find it) but the WiFi works very well. It was a perfect location for the different hikes we did, and for exploring the region. All in all, there was a very good experience . We recommend this place and we would definitely return !

    Matei2018-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • The house has been completely renovated and equipped with all comforts. Gloria had prepared everything necessary for breakfast and lunch, from basic necessities like salt and oil, to pasta. Friendly reception and excellent communication, Gloria has always been available for our every need. Silent and immersed in a wonderful valley, a few km from the Gorges of Infernaccio and other points of interest of the Sibillini Mountains, just by looking out the door is automatic to enter into relaxation mode. Near the house is the Sanctuary of Madonna dell'Ambro, where there are some restaurants (we ate at the restaurant of the Hotel Ambro, both at Chioschetto nel Bosco, very good and cheap home cooking). Recommended as a strategic point to turn both for villages and to organize some trekking in nature. Or for those who really need to unplug for a few days from work and stress.

  • This apartment has everything, so much, I'm thinking of moving near there. It's just ten minutes away from civilization but tucked away near a gorgeous forest just below the Sibillini mountains. It's the most modern place I've ever stayed at and she stocks it with snacks, coffee, and pasta in case you want to cook. It's perfect. Couldn't recommend enough.

    Kino2018-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a super-modern, sparkling clean apartment in an unusual location for something so elegant - the tiny hamlet of Piedivalle, between Montefortino and the Santuario Madonna dell'Ambro. The location was perfect to do the hikes I wanted to take: Monte Sibilla, the Gola d'Infernaccio, and the road/trail from Foce towards the Laghi di Pilato. Gloria was a gracious host. I arrived almost an hour early and she welcomed me immediately. She made a special trip back to the apartment to show me how to use the kitchen stove, which uses induction eating - a high-tech appliance that I had rarely even seen before. The neighbors in the nearby houses were very friendly. I highly recommend this rental!

Montefortino, Marche, Italy

Casetta Benessere - our "little house of well-being" is a cosy cottage on the side of a beautiful valley in rural Le Marche. With access to a 30 foot swimming pool, BBQ terrace, olive grove, fruit orchard, vegetable garden and fresh eggs every day from our small flock of friendly chickens, it's a quiet retreat in the heart of the Italian countryside. Built for two, it has all the basics you'll need for a comfortable stay in a working rural community. This is the "real" Italy. Welcome!
The cottage was built in 2017, by local builders in local stone. It is small - just 27 square metres in total - but quite adequate for two people. So adequate that we lived there happily for six months while our house next door was renovated! The living space, dining area and fitted kitchen are all in one, equipped as fully as you would like and with a comfortable sofa and dining table. We provide essentials like washing-up liquid, cling film and kitchen paper. There's a log fire and central heating for winter months, and air conditioning to keep you cool in the heat of the summer. The bedroom has a UK-sized double bed, wardrobe and bedside cabinets and overlooks the garden and the valley beyond. The en-suite bathroom has a shower, washbasin, toilet and storage unit and is fully tiled. We provide all bedding and towels, including beach towels, and incidentals like shampoo and soap for your convenience. Outside, you have access to your own small grassed garden, and shared access (with us, if we're using it, otherwise it's all yours!) of our 30' by 12' swimming pool which overlooks the valley. It has its own terrace and sitting area complete with umbrella and recliners. You'll also have your own terrace with a stone-built barbeque and a dining table under a large umbrella to keep you shaded from the sun. You'll be able to swing in the hammock in the shade of the orchard, or walk through our olive grove and woodland areas. The wildlife here is stunning: deer, black squirrels and owls live alongside wild boar, porcupines and fox families while buzzards and the occasional eagle fly over the valley. And the fruit of our orchard, the veg from our "orto", fresh eggs from our chickens and oil from our organic, stone-pressed olives are freely available. The cottage has its own garden but please note that, like all properties in this area, it is not fenced. There is parking adjacent to the cottage and a gate which closes off entrance to everyone but guests. You'll have access to our washing-machine, and a freezer if the one in the cottage is too small for your needs. The internet in the cottage is business-strength wifi - it can be a little temperamental depending on the weather but is good enough for Cath to run her online business from!
Our tiny village, population 536, is across the valley - walkable as long as you don't mind hills! It's a very traditional setting: the church bells ring out to announce births and marriages and to call workers in from the fields. It has a bakery, a bar and a church, around which village life revolves. Villagers are friendly and genuinely interested in getting to know visitors who are made welcome at all the local festivities. The local area is again traditional Italy. Seasons are marked by festivals celebrating everything from the first fruits to olives to the wine harvest. Talent is celebrated in street theatre, food is celebrated in feasts cooked by local ladies using recipes handed down the generations. Wine tasting is a joy at our local vineyard where the family is delighted to show you round their pride and joy before you sit sipping delicious wines as you overlook the vines and the mountains beyond. There's no "nightlife" here except for joining local people in their family-run bistro (we go there so often we were invited to the family wedding!) or eating local meats and cheeses in the next village's "tasting" menu. We're almost equally between the mountains and the sea, both of which have masses to offer, whether you like walking, mountain biking or relaxing on the beach. It's not a "touristy" area - which is one of the reasons we love it so much. If you're looking for clubs and pubs, this is not the right venue for you. But if you want to experience a taste of Italy - in all senses of the word - you'll love it as much as we do.
  • The cottage is delicious, small but equipped with everything you need, the kitchen is well equipped, everything is very functional. The outdoor space is beautiful, lots of greenery and tranquility, in the early morning and in the evening there is a nice fresh air, to be enjoyed in the hammock looking at the valley or the village. The pool then is the touch of class, diving with silence around is priceless. We had a great time, Mike was very helpful with every request, although he was not there he responded quickly whenever we had a need. The location is great for visiting the surroundings, all beautiful medieval villages, sunflower fields as far as the eye can see, olive groves on all the hills, the Fiastra lake with its colors, the Fiastra Abbey to see absolutely even for a pic -NIC. The locals are extremely friendly and cordial. In short, more than recommended, for those looking for a quiet retreat to relax and for those looking for places to discover far from the chaos of the city.

  • We spent a glorious week relaxing at the beautiful Cassetta Benessere after our wedding. The little house is small but perfectly formed, with everything you need. The views over the valley when you wake up and from the pool are breathtaking. Mike and Cath were the perfect hosts, even when they weren’t in the country. We felt at home immediately and that we’d found a paradise hideaway in the Marche hills. You definitely need a car to get around, but there’s so much to do close by - vineyards, local restaurants, agriturismo, a stunning mountain lake and the beach just over an hour away - and the house has an info pack with all the directions you could need. Mike and Cath are super attentive and on hand to provide great recommendations for visiting all the lovely spots that the area has to offer. We can’t recommend them highly enough! And we can’t wait to return.

  • Mike and Cath’s cottage is an absolute delight and the perfect place to stay for two people in the heart of Le Marche. Mike was excellent and thoughtful in his communication with us and gave plenty of good information and tips both before and during our stay. It is spotlessly clean with well equipped kitchen and comfortable bed with good quality linen and good size bathroom. The kitchen/living area have lovely views of the garden and across the valley. There are numerous areas to sit outside by the cottage or by the pool. It was hot weather during our stay and we enjoyed swimming in the pool and sitting poolside enjoying the views of the countryside and village across the valley. The cottage is an easy 10minute drive to Colmurano and from there it’s a short drive to Urbisalgia. The cottage is an excellent base for day trips further afield to explore the region. We highly recommend Mike’s place and only wish we could have stayed longer.

  • The department of mike is beautiful, it is not very big but 2 or 3 people are well accommodated, all very cozy comfortable and nice, had everything necessary for the stay to be comfortable, both inside and outside, as it was at the disposal of the pool, the communication was good but unfortunately for personal reasons he could not receive us personally but I left someone with trust who received us kindly and a letter of apology, we thought of someone very attentive, we drove by car so no I would know how to help someone who wants to go on foot or by bus, since it is not a central place, highly recommended !! We would go back

    Valeria2019-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was even more beautiful than in the pictures. You live in a small house next to the main house where the host lives. You still have the maximum privacy, because the property is very large. The view from the great and clean pool is great. Mike is a great and sympathetic host, besides, he had many tips for us and was very accommodating in all matters! Mike also has 2 dogs, they are both very friendly and trusting. The decor and cleanliness was perfect, the kitchen also very well equipped. Thanks for the relaxed and great week !! Also thank you for your tip for the winery, we spent a great afternoon here. We would come again and again.

the house is located in a very small village (4 houses ) mostly lived during summer at a 700 meters of altitude very relaxing the nearest town is 4km away and is Pieivebovigliana ; HISTORY The whole of Italy in one village: its art, history and countryside Pievebovigliana is typical of the little communities to found everywhere in the Italian peninsula. Although every historical period has left its mark, we still have a countryside that is gloriously untouched . Life here carries on at an unhurried pace that is in perfect harmony with its surroundings. The charm of Pievebovigliana lies in the fact that it has always been a cultural crossroads. With its streams, lakes and spacious valleys set between rolling hills and tall mountains, it typifies the landscape of the foothills on the Adriatic side of the Appenine chain. In one direction the valleys open out towards the fertile plains of Le Marche whereas in the opposite direction the same valleys lead first, to the high pasture lands and then, upwards to the magical world of the Sibillini mountains. Part of our commune is in the National Park of the Sibillini Mountains. Chiesa di San Giusto in San Maroto Pievebovigliana has been settled from prehistoric times. In the archaeological section of the ‘R. Campelli’ museum at the Town Hall there are some stone artefacts of paleolithic origin. A tomb found near San Francesco testifies to the presence of settled populations going back to the 7th century BC. Also on display in the local museum are numerous ( 4th to 3rd century BC ) finds from Monte San Savino that confirm the existence of a Piceni settlement in an area of high ground probably occupied for defensive purposes. The abundance of ceramic and other imported goods is evidence of the commercial importance of the entire area, which was a meeting place for four coeval cultures: Celtic, Greek, Etruscan and Italic. The present day name ‘Pievebovigliana’ is derived from the medieval place name Plebs Boveliani ( possibly people of the oxen ) and is indicative of either Gallic or Roman origins. Like other scattered Gallic settlements it became first, a Roman pagus (village ) and then, a Christian plebs ( people). However, there is no doubt that the building which was discovered in 1964 at San Giovanni dell’Isola belongs to the Roman imperial era and was probably used in connection with taking the spa waters. The medieval period had a great influence on the area and witnessed the passage of saints, popes and mercenary captains. Battles were fought, conspiracies hatched and poets and writers found their inspiration here. The church of San Giusto at San Maroto , one of the most important romanesque buldings in Le Marche belongs to this period. Its particular structural form has given rise to many theories as to its origin. Most experts believe it was built ca. 1000 AD, but some maintain that its central dome, built without formwork, dates back to Carolingian times. The monastery of San Francesco at Pontelatrave goes back to the saint of the same name who, in 1215 on one of his visits to Le Marche, spent the night in a nearby wood. An episode in ‘the little flowers of St. Francis’ is associated with the construction of the monastery; he is held to have changed the water of the well into wine in order to slake the thirst of the workmen engaged in building the original structure. The present complex of church and monastery was constructed at the end of the 14th century. The late medieval period also saw the building of the convent of San Pietro di Pompeiano , close to the monastery, but now unfortunately no longer in existence. Beldiletto nella valle del Chienti Between 1371 and 1381, the Da Varano , lords of Camerino, built on the plain the castle of Beldiletto, a sumptuous and splendid summer residence befitting this powerful dynasty . In 1382 Luigi I of Anjou and Amadeus IV of Savoy stayed in its richly frescoed rooms. In 1419 the castle was taken by Carlo Malatesta , Lord of Rimini, in a battle against the Da Varano. Subsequently, he in turn, was defeated by the Lords of Camerino with the help of Braccio da Montone. In 1510 Pope Giulio II stayed here with his entire retinue comprising seven Cardinals and 200 mounted men. The site of the former castle of Pievebovigliana, is dominated today by the massive structure of the medieval church of Santa Maria Assunta -restored in the 18th and 19th century and containing an 11th century romanesque crypt. The castle was destroyed by the troops of the Duchess Caterina Cibo who was engaged in a dynastic battle for the control of the Da Varano dominions. Franco Sacchetti , author of the Trecentonovelle and one of the greatest of the Italian medieval writers found inspiration in Pievebovigliana. In one of his stories he describes the adventures of some soldiers from Pievebovigliana who, having enlisted in the army of Gentile of Camerino -grandson of Rodolfo Da Varano , were sent to attack the city of Matelica. Sachetti’s witty and probably accurate description does not spare the inhabitants of Pievebovigliana; the soldiers got drunk, vanquished a haystack and were captured whilst busy picking cherries. The strategic importance of Pievebovigliana is shown in a document of 1218 whereby Archbishop Atto of Camerino confims certain privileges and possessions (lands, vines, mills and woodlands) on his incumbent in Pieve and the control of some thirty one churches. Pievebovigliana nei primi anni del novecento The last few centuries are notable only for a deafening silence as to events in Pievebovigliana and its surrounds, possibly because these years were spent within a Papal State. In this connection about the end of the 15th century Mariana, mother of Pope Sisto V, was born in Frontillo – one of Pieve’s outlying villages. The population grew steadily from 1,800 inhabitants at the end of the 16th century to a maximum of 2,259 by 1901. The second half of the 19th century saw the expansion of all the outlying villages and the construction of some palaces and fine country houses. The start of the 20th century brought about a marked decline in the population as this little backwater was actually suffering a decline as a result of the economic growth that was taking place elsewhere in Italy. The old industries such as weaving had all disappeared for good ( in 1890 there were 61 looms whose production had been almost exclusively for local consumption). Hemp had been grown to supply fulling-mills and dyeworks . At the end of the 19th century there were eight brick ovens producing more than 200,000 bricks a year and employing some 25 workers. Today, some impressive ruins are all that remains of these brickworks. In order to make up their incomes, many small farmers had to join the seasonal migration towards the countryside round Rome by taking the old traditional tracks to the summer pastures where they became day labourers. In the first decade of the 20th century, when this seasonal migration started to decline, the people of Pievebovigliana began to emigrate overseas in increasing numbers, especially to the Americas. A third phase of emigration began in the fifties when significant numbers began to leave for Rome which was becoming increasingly important as the capital city. Nevertheless during the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century life was not without interest in Pievebovigliana; there were some notable individuals such as Stefano Cianni. He was a local figure who built his business in the Jacobin first half of the 19th century. He opened a fulling mill and a dyeworks that employed four workers. By the end of the century, the dyeworks, where cloth was coloured using chemically obtained dyes, was being managed by his sons Giovanni and Osmirda. Their work was famous for its quality throughout the province. At this point Osmirda opened a photographic laboratory and a small plant to produce cutlery and surgical instruments. The end of the 19th century also saw the foundation by the two Varnelli brothers , Girolamo and Giovanni, of the distillery which still produces today the famous Amaro Sibilla and the L’Anice Secco Speciale. Nazzareno Morosi, who was an early pioneer in electrical engineering, began in the twenties to bring electricity to Pievebovigliana and the numerous surrounding villages. His grid expanded rapidly and even reached places as far afield as the villages surrounding Foligno, Sarnano and Amandola. For those interested in archaeology This section of the museum was restored and opened to the public in 1999. It houses a collection of the discoveries found in the area, starting in the 1930?s and ending with the latest digs which were carried out in the 1990′s at the Monte San Savino site. In addition to the pottery artefacts there is the Fiordimonte inscription , which was at first identified as written by the Senoni and therefore, one of the oldest and rarest celtic stone inscriptions in Italy ( other historians maintain that it is of medieval origin ). Also on display are a bead made of yellow glass with the remains of two male bearded faces ( of Phoenecian-Punic origin), a female head of clay, probably an architectural fragment which dates from the middle Italic period in the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC, a clay sheet with raised decoration that was also probably an architectural feature – indicating a highly romanised area. For those interested in art and art history The castle of Pievebovigliana There are still some remains of the castle which was destroyed in 1528. The outlines of the ancient fortification in the form of a ship are still perfectly visible. The old medieval town plan can still be seen in the disposition of the houses which have all been restored and discerned in the picturesque streets and stairways. The Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Roman Crypt A particular feature of this complex is the presbytery which was built in the 19th century on to the front of the church itself whose origins , as shown by the apsidal grouping, go back to the romanesque period . Inside there are paintings by Luigi Valeri ( the Madonna of Constantinople) and by Girolamo and Antonio Aspri, all 18th and 19th century works. The 11th century crypt has five aisles, three apses and four rows of columns of Roman origin – all with different capitals. There is also a 15th century fresco of Santa Lucia by a pupil of Arcangelo di Cola, the Master of Gaglianvecchio. The Church of the Rosario The church was consecrated in 1600. It contains a 17th century fresco and a painting attributed ( probably incorrectly) to Luigi Valeri but painted circa 1765 : Madonna with child and St Anna , John the Baptist, Carlo Borromeo and the angels. The Town Hall Museum ‘Raffaele Campelli’ The museum was founded in 1936 by Monsignor Raffaele Campelli. Today it is housed in the Town Hall . It contains a crucifix by The Master of Gaglianvecchio , The Madonna of Constantinople by an anonymous 16th century Umbrian Painter, a 1530 painting of angel musicians by Venanzo da Camerino and a Madonna of Loreto with Saints by Simone de Magistris. Some of the statuary in the museum was shown in 2002 exhibition in Camerino entitled : The 15th century in Camerino – a look at the heartlands of Le Marche. These included a wooden figure of San Sebastian by an anonymous marchegiano sculptor, a head of the Virgin in polychromatic terracotta from the Abruzzi and a head of the Redeemer also in terracotta . The council chamber was designed by Gino Marotta and contains pictures by the same artist. The adjacent room houses a collection of woodcuts by Maria Ciccotti. The Church of the Madonna della Pecciana This tiny chapel on the road to Fiastra goes back to the 18th century. The Castle and Parish Church of Roccamaia On the back wall at the left of the altar there is an early 16th century fresco fragment ( possibly by Venanzio da Camerino ) which depicts the Madonna della Misericordia. Palazzo Fani This is an important 19th century rural residence complete with stables, outbuildings and garden built by Nicola Fani a country gentleman born in Muccia in 1811. Some of the rooms still contain frescoes. The ‘Dovecote’ Tower and the Marchetti palace at Campi The palace dates from the 15th century. The tower on the other hand probably goes back to the 14th century. It is built of local sandstone obviously for defensive purposes in connection with the Beldiletto castle not far below. The Church and Monastery of San Francesco The church with its fully trussed nave is of 14th century construction, whereas the monastery was re-built in the 18th century. Inside the church there is a 19th century reproduction of the13th century crucifix that according to local tradition was given to the monastery by St Francis himself and which was destroyed by fire in 1892. Recently some frescoes have been discovered in the apse and along the side walls – dated 1393 and signed Cola di Pietro. Another fresco which depicts the Madonna della Misericordia is attributed to Giovanni Angelo Antonio. The Castle of Beldiletto The castle which was built at the end of the 14th century by Giovanni Da Varano and was transformed in the second half of the following century into a magnificent renaissance palace. The building, rectangular in shape with a tower on each corner, was originally surrounded by a deep and wide moat. Internally the building opens out into a courtyard with a first floor loggia supported by octagonal columns and two centred gothic arches – the whole in red and white stonework. In the largest of the rooms there are the remains of an enormous 15th century fresco cycle depicting horsemen ( 60 in total) including Roberto il Guiscardo, his son Ruggero, the king of Naples and Tancredi d’Altavilla. This is a direct reference to the world of chivalry and its celebration in epic poetry. The Roman Bridge at Pontelatrave The bridge which was built in the 14th century was constructed on Roman foundations dating from the 1st century AD. The Castello di Colvenale The ancient castle of the Monaldeschi family which was ceded to the Commune of Camerino in the 13th century, is ideally placed to control the road to the Sibilline mountains . Over the years it has gradually fallen into ruin. The church of San Giovanni at Isola The church and its adjoining presbytery are medieval structures. Externally, on the long elevation, there is a 14th century portico supported on small octagonal brick columns. At the corners there are bricks showing the monogram of St Bernard. The ‘Filippo Marchetti’ Villa This fine country house at Gallazzano was built in the second half of the 19th century and was the residence of Filippo Marchetti , who was a famous composer of the time and was president of the Royal Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome and music teacher to Queen Margaret of Savoy. The Church at San Giusto The church with its domed roof was built between the 11th and 12th centuries on a circular plan, which is held to indicate Roman rather than Byzantine influences. The whole structure is a fine example of geometric balance which gives an elegant resolution to the structural forces. The tower, which was added at a later date, contains frescoes dating from the 13th to the 15th century. The interior of the church houses a painting by Venanzo da Camerino ( Madonna del Rosario) and a Madonna enthroned with child – from the second half of the 13th century. The Church of Santa Maria Maddalena This little church is in an isolated position on the mountain of the same name. It goes back to the Romanesque period and the fresco fragments inside, depicting a Crucifixion with Mary Magdalene and some angel heads, are attributed to Cola Di Pietro.

  • The house on the lawn is an accommodation in which to spend time in the nature and tranquility of the mountain. Unfortunately we could only stay for three nights, but we could first of all appreciate the hospitality of the owners and shopkeepers of Amandola and Sarnano. We had a wonderful mountain bike tour and a couple of beautiful walking tours in the woods. The house had the atmosphere of a family home, of those "Come una volta" where you spend time with grandparents and family ... simple and welcoming.

  • Casale Coccinella is a detached villa in authentic Italian style. Everything we could wish for was there. Amazing views from the window. The proximity of natural landscapes and picturesque towns. And, of course, the owners themselves Bob and Judy - they created an atmosphere of calmness and benevolence in their home. We wish them prosperity and good guests. With thanks, Igor, Gregory, Pavel.

  • Generous hospitality. There is concern for every little detail. The area is amazingly beautiful and suitable for walking enthusiasts. Bob and Judy make it feel like home. We intend to return soon.

  • The location of the house is fantastic, the house exactly as it appears in the pictures. The equipment details are really thoughtful, even tea towels, enough towels, fresh soap, kitchen roll, toilet paper, ... Everything you need for a stay in an apartment is provided here by the host for free. The house is decorated with love and really very clean. A bottle of wine, pasta and sauce for the first dinner, even a fresh pack of milk were found in the kitchen as an initial set-up. For every concern, a Bob and Judy help immediately. For example, we were a bit cold on the first day as we were the first guests of the year and it was April. Bob and Judy immediately brought electric blankets and extra blankets upstairs so we had cozy cuddles at night. The heating worked but wonderful, after a day the house was thoroughly warmed up.

  • It was my first experience in Umbria and I must say that thanks to the Host it has become a fantastic experience for me and the whole family. Super hospitable and wonderful place ...... I will definitely return. See you soon

  • Amazing views, well appointed house, hosts with loads of local knowledge. Great retreat.

    Ian2018-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We were 2 families staying at Casale Coccinella with 5 children aged from 2-7. The home had more amenities than we could ask for. Plenty of garden games, lots of space inside, large bedrooms, games, colouring books and a television that received more English channels than you could ask for. The house was nice and cool in the evenings which made it easy for the children (and adults) to sleep. Bob and Judy were incredibly warm and welcoming. We arrived during a festival and Bob made us aware that shops and petrol stations would be closed. He kindly collected some essential groceries for us and gave us advice on where to fill up with petrol before we left the main motorway. Judy made us a delicious lasagne for our first night as we were arriving late in the afternoon and didn’t want to take our exhausted children to the local restaurant (which opens at 7:30). The house has a wonderful relationship with the local campsite (about 400m away) with access to the pool, football, table tennis, restaurant, bar, small market for essentials etc. We didn’t do much exploring as the children seemed most content by the pool. I don’t know how easy it would be to reach Casale Coccinella via public transport so I would say that hiring a car is necessary. The views from the house are spectacular and there seemed to be a lot of local walks, cycle rides, rafting and other outdoor pursuits in the area. If you can hire a car, we would highly recommend this house. It is a retreat and the owners are very warm, welcoming and helpful.

Our cosy cottage easily fits five and is located in a small hamlet just outside a pittoresque village at the foot of the Apennine mountains about 3 km from the lovely village of Sarnano in Le Marche, mid Italy. Enjoy the authentic rural scenery and experience the luxury of our comfortable house. READ: After the earthquakes, why you should still visit Le Marche: after-the-earthquakes-why-you-should-still-visit-central-italy << Just copy paste in search engine to find the full story. Thnx!
Enjoy the charm of a rural hideaway located in a little hamlet amidst the Italian locals. We offer a complete house which sleeps five. Great view over the hills of Le Marche, mid-Italy, near the the Apennine mountains, 3 km from lovely village of Sarnano and 1 hr car drive from the Adriatic sea. Our home is comfortable to stay in with two spacious double bedrooms on the lower first floor. You enter the house on the second floor directly into the spacious, well equipped kitchen. The living room right behind it has a cosy wood burner and comfy fauteuils and couch. There's a TV but with no connection. We did this on purpose so to maintain the quietness. We possess however a nice collection of movies, varying form Dutch, English/American films as well as French and Italian Art House movies. There's also a nice little library with mostly Dutch literary books and some English books. There's a little desk where you can concentrate on writing or whatever it takes to concentrate on. We have WiFi through the whole house which even reaches on the upper outside terrace. Through the hall you can reach the bathroom (with a view on the hills...) and the stairs down to the lower floor with two double bedrooms, both with windows and one of them giving access to the lower terrace. The first terrace is up in front of the house and gives you the best view. Superb spot to relax with your cappuccino in the morning soaking in the serene views. During your stay you have full access to the whole house: kitchen, living, hall, bathroom, two bedrooms, two terraces and the area right around the house. Have a chat with the Italian neighbours and our British neighbour. Water and electricity are included. Bed linen is included, beds are made upon arrival. NOTE ABOUT TOWELS: You can bring your own towels but we also have towels available for your personal use as well as for the kitchen. The house will be available when we're out so you're being welcomed by friends of us upon arrival who will provide you the key, showing you around and giving some little assistance if necessary. But you can always reach us by phone or email. We love the little hamlet of which our home makes part of. Our Italian neighbours are really the sweetest Italian seniors you can imagine and always happy to make a chat. The other three houses are owned by British of which one is inhabited permanently. (our British neighbour) You need a car to reach our house, either your own or rented, which can easily provided for at Ancona or Pescara Airport. Once in Sarnano you can take local busses to nearly every town in the Macerata province. From Amandola (ca. 20 min. drive by car) you can even take the bus to Rome, which takes you there in 4 hours. The Adriatic sea is reached in 1 hour by car. Are you a hiking or biking lover: well the Sibillini Mountains and the Nature Park by the same name provide endless opportunities to explore 'la campagna e la natura' by foot or wheels. Also by motorcycle the endless curving roads with magnificent views are a thrill to go about. Some highlights to visit: Lake Fiastra, ca . 20 min, Golla di Infernaccio, a lovely gorge to discover, the caves of Frasassi about 1,5 hours drive north and to the south the Piano Grande with the village of Castelluccio which presents you with an amazing view. Don't forget to explore the taste of the regional wines like the white Verdicchio and the red Piceno and indulge yourself in the local delicacies like the salamis, pecorino cheese, pasta di tartufo and the Marches version of lasagne: Le Vincigrasse. Njoy!
A little hamlet of six houses with friendly Italian neighbours as well as a cheerfull British, permanent resident.

  • My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Elise's house. It was exactly as described, only better. We stayed there for one week after getting married, and it was perfect for us as a we were looking for some peace and tranquility. The house is fabulous and quite spacious for two people. Elise was such a great host, and while we didn't meet her in person she was always available via email and responded very quickly. A car is a must have for the area, and we loved going on trips and exploring the region, and the scenery is just amazing. All in all we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend Elise's house.

  • We were by Federica for almost a month with two small children and we all loved it! The place is' wonderful, most quiet, with plenty of room for psseggiare and to let kids run around without the dangers of the road. At the same time all amenities (supermarket, pharmacy ...) are close (a few minutes by car) and in a short time in the car it also comes in many tourist places. Federica and her family are very nice, friendly, always available to give advice and information about the area, interesting places, local food and so on. The apartment 'comfortable with everything you need for a short or long stay and just ask if something was missing, in fact we were often asked if we needed something. The family of Federica was on the top floor of the house, but the house and 'organized in the way and there' s so much space around that privacy is not missing. We are very happy to find this place and plan to return!
