Places to stay in Dunlavin
Self check in, taking extra measures to clean our space. Perfect place to hide away from all that's going on in the world. No TV, no wifi, no human interaction. Inside the Treehouse you will find luxury combined with nature. The treehouse has a bbq with an attached gas hob for outdoor cooking only, a bathroom with walk in shower plus a flushing WC, including constant hot-water and a gas fire, it is fully waterproof and insulated.
The living and dining area is open plan with a balcony mezzanine as the sleeping area with a double bed. Through the French doors you walk on to a large deck overlooking the large garden area. The decking area is equipped with a barbeque for outdoor cooking and outdoor furniture for dining outdoors on the decking overlooking the garden and part of our 40 acre working farm below. We have no indoor cooking facilities. Prosecco in ice bucket available at extra cost. We have fantastic natural deciduous woodland nearby to enjoy, with high mix of wildlife including red squirrel, rabbit, foxes, deer etc. The property has a number of farm animals, a pony, a donkey, cows, hens, peacocks. There is a large wood area and walks attached to the farm, great for walkers. The farm is connected to great walks including walks to the some archaeological and historical sites. The land is connected to Baltinglass Hill and The Pinnacle: Neolithic passage grave on the summit of Baltinglass Hill, from the Stone Age.
  • A very quirky cosy treehouse. Perfect place to chill out. Everything there we needed. Great recommendations for eating out from Niamh. Will definitely go back

    Felicity2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse and host were both brilliant! We were booked in the night of a storm so Niamh offered to reschedule but we were happy to stay and the treehouse was sturdy in the wind. The only downfall was the taxi service which is to no fault of Niamhs, she provided his number and was quick to respond when I messaged her. The taxi brought us in and said to call back when we wanted to leave but wouldn't answer his phone after several missed calls and voicemails left so we had to walk home in the dark. Thankfully the rain held off and the road was mainly lit with street lights but it is a country road so can be dangerous. I'd say it's a nice walk in the summer or even when you're prepared with a high vis or torch. That was the only downfall and not the hosts fault so would definitely recommend 🙂

  • The perfect place to stay after a long day of hiking the wocklow mountains

    Sean2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing experience, even in the middle of winter we were able to fully enjoy it. The tree house is super warm and cozy and it has all the commodities you could possible need while staying literally at the top of a tree! Being able to cook a full Irish breakfast on the bbq/hob that's on top of the tree was just awesome! We loved every minute and will definitively come back. We enjoyed total privacy, amazing views and great location. Best weekend ever. Thank you so much to Niamh and husband :-D

    Patricia2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Niamh and Owen are very open and supportive. The tree house is amazing and I will definitely book it again soon. I strongly recommend it.

    Diego2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse is an absolute gem. Only thing we found an issue with was having to cook outside in the stormy weather as there is nothing to cook with inside. If you were to visit during the summer it would be no issue.

  • Such an experience! Everyone should stay here at least once. Rang in the New Year here and it was the perfect getaway! Very cozy, warm and clean! The treehouse itself is absolutely beautiful and it is obvious to see it was designed and made with love. Thanks for the best New Years ever🥳🥂

    Andrea2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse was lovely, the pictures do not do it justice! Niamh was responsive to any questions we had during our stay. Perfect, quaint place for a weekend getaway. I will definitely be back to book again! Thanks for having us at your lovely treehouse.

    Baltinglass, County Wicklow, Ireland

Set in a traditional farm courtyard, this converted Wicklow stable offers a contemporary, spacious, open-plan living space with all mod cons. We are a seven-minute drive from Rathsallagh - perfect for guests attending weddings there!
Set in an authentic farmyard, the Stable has a fresh and contemporary feel. Perfect for a romantic get away to enjoy the Wicklow countryside. The bedroom is on a mezzanine level at the top of a custom built spiral staircase, so best suited to able-bodied adults. I converted the stables myself and lived there for five years while I renovated the main house, which I now live in. The restoration is ongoing, and our low prices reflect the fact that the driveway and garden are still 'works in progress'! All our guests love Ballyhook, but I do ask guests to please be aware that this is a working farm (I run a brewery business and I will leave you a sample in the fridge if you're lucky!). If you want five star wall-to-wall luxury this is not the place for you, if you want a fantastic fun experience of real irish life I believe you will be delighted!
The accessability to the Wicklow Mountains, Russborough House,Punchestown, The Curragh, Rathsallagh House Hotel, Burtown House and Gardens, Baltinglass, Blessington lakes, Glendalough, Kildare Village all with in 30 minutes drive. Finished off by the infamous Moores Pub and casa tapas restraunt in the local village of Grangecon 5 mins drive.
  • Overall we had a lovely stay at Angus’ place. We stayed there for 11 nights and during this time the house became a kind of home after our journeys in Ireland. We arrived quite late and had no problems checking in. In the fridge we found everything we need for the breakfast, which was a real lifesaver as we arrived so late the evening before and couldn’t go groceries shopping. The bed is absolute gorgeous - feels like you sleep in clouds. As someone else wrote, the furniture might not be as new as it was on the pictures, but it’s still in good condition. Angus was a great host, we felt very welcomed and he had good tips what we should visit as well. He made it easy to feel comfortable and always made sure we have everything we need. If you get the chance you should definitely try his beer, it tastes really good. You get the chance to order it in Grangecons pub, which you should visit. Apart from that we can recommend visiting Glendalough, Bray and Blessington. In Blessington (20mins drive) you have also the chance to go to Dublin by Bus. Since you can enjoy a quit location you need a car for mostly everything. Overall we really enjoyed the stay and would come back when we visit Ireland again.

    Helene2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation at Angus offers almost everything you could wish for. To make excursions, it is necessary to have a car with you. We can only recommend Angus as a host !!

    Chris2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Angus's place is a sensational experience on a working farm. The cottage is beautifully renovated with all mod cons and comforts. Angus is such a generous host supplying a range of delicious local produce and ideas of what to do in the local area. Its a special experience staying here and I would absolutely recommend it if you are wanting some rural downtime.

  • Thanks again for a great stay! It was easy to live there for a month. I enjoyed the peace and quiet. Thank you for the great hospitality.

    Danielle2019-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here, the place is so beautifully decorated with lots of nice touches, perfectly clean and in a lovely scenic location. Best bit though has to be the piglets! We would definitely stay again

    Amy2019-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely, clean and light home in a beautiful and quiet setting, with good links to get to all the attractions. The spiral staircase took a little getting used to but we were soon comfortable getting up and down. Angus is a welcoming and relaxed host and it was great to meet him. We had a great holiday and hope to come back.

    Chdel2019-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Talk about a place to recharge. With the wood stove burning, and a book in every part of the house, you’ll appreciate every part of being out in the country to reflect and relax. Angus was absolutely delightful as a host. Will miss your place so much! Stay here guys. You’ll absolutely love it.

    Grangecon, Wicklow, Ireland

Enjoy a truly Irish experience at Decoy Lodge, a quaint two-storey, two-bedroom cottage situated right in the heart of a 200-acre working Irish sheep farm in Dunlavin, Co Wicklow. In addition to sheep, we also keep cattle, horses and a few majestic peacocks! Lambing time in January and March is particularly special and children can even help feed the pet lambs! Special discounts available for families with children at pre-booking. Please enquire in advance.
Decoy Lodge dates back to the 1950s when it was converted from an old stable. It has recently been re-decorated (launched early November 2019) but still boasts a lot of 'old world' charm. It is set right in the middle of a busy working farm of some 300 sheep, 100 cattle and a few horses. The kitchen, which overlooks one of the paddocks, is fully equipped with a cooker, washing machine, fridge freezer and microwave. The cosy living room looks out onto the yard, where you will often spot the peacocks roaming freely! Otherwise you can relax in front of an open stone fire and watch tv while rewinding after a busy day taking in the sights of the 'Garden of Ireland' that is Co Wicklow. Throughout the house, the walls are adorned with photographs of some of our spectacular wildlife and local scenes. The bathroom is situated downstairs, off a hallway adjacent to the spacious livingroom. This is equipped with an electric shower and deep cast-iron bath. Upstairs, the front bedroom (one double bed) looks out onto the small paddocks, and the second bedroom (one double bed and one single bed), looks out onto the sheep shed, which, during lambing season, is teaming with activity! Both rooms have hairdryers. Further up the farm, the views are quite spectacular, especially at sunset when the light over the Wicklow Mountains is breathtaking. Short tours of the farm can be organised. As it is a working farm with machinery operating daily, we request that children are supervised at all times. This is for their own safety. We do offer stabling for horses for an additional charge, should someone need overnight accommodation for them too. We are located in hunting country with packs such as Kildare, Carlow Farmers, Shillelagh and South County Dublin all within an hours' drive of the farm. There are also trail rides organised locally from time to time. Sadly we are unable to accommodate dogs. All in all we believe Decoy Lodge has so much to offer to those wishing to experience life in the Irish countryside, and also to meet all the residents of an Irish farm!
Wicklow is without doubt the most beautiful county in Ireland and we are fortunate to live in one of the most scenic areas, overlooking the Wicklow Mountains. Did you know that we even have our own 'Hollywood on the Hill'? - a tiny village on the edge of the mountains which is a major attraction for photos all year round. From Hollywood, take the road across the Wicklow Gap to the world-famous Glendalough Park and then travel home via the Sally Gap. If you have time seek out Luggala Estate, where much of the 'Vikings' series was filmed. Decoy Lodge is situated half a mile from the N81 which is the main Blessington/Baltinglass road. The farm sits close to the R412 which takes you into Dunlavin, approximately three miles away. This gorgeous village is on the Kildare border and dates back to the 1600s. Its most attractive feature is the courthouse right in the centre of the village, although you will instantly love the entire place for its wide streets which are really a step back in time. Just a few miles away is the multi award-winning Rathsallagh House Hotel which is well worth a visit if you fancy a round of golf. Tullfarris Golf Club is also nearby. For horse racing enthusiasts, Kildare county boasts three race tracks - the Curragh (Flat), Punchestown (National Hunt) and Naas (Flat and National Hunt). All are within a 30 minute drive and host several major festivals throughout the year. The Curragh is also famous for its association with horse trainers, with several hundred horses being exercised here each day. Why not spend a morning watching the next superstar being put through their paces? Afterwards you could have lunch at the bustling TRI Superstore. We are well located with several major towns within a 30 minute drive - Blessington (20kms), Naas (23kms) and Newbridge (18kms). For those who wish to dine out we have some fantastic restaurants and cafes in the locality. Some of note for breakfast and lunch are the Grangecon Kitchen (8kms) and Hollywood Cafe (8kms). For dinner, try the Ballymore Inn (11kms) and Bardons of Kilcullen (10kms) - home of the best chicken wings in Ireland!

  • Fantastic stay at Decoy lodge! We had such a lovely stay, Siobhan, Robert snr. and little Robert gave us a lovely warm welcome. We got a tour of the farm and even got to feed baby lambs! We would have loved to stay longer but will definitely return again! The place is set in beautiful surroundings and cottage has everything you need for a relaxing stay. Siobhan is a fantastic host! ♥️

  • We had a fantastic time at Siobhan’s farm house. The house was very comfortable, relaxing and super clean. Siobhan left fresh eggs for us, which were great for breakfast. The kids really enjoyed feeding the lambs and seeing all the other animals on the farm and have asked a number of times when we can go back. The location was great to explore the Wicklow mountains.

  • Francis did a great job in redoing the stables, it is a really lovely place to stay! He even provided a travel cot and highchair for our little daughter. She was really excited to see the horses, cats and tractors and Francis and his brother were really nice to show us a little bit around. We only stayed for one night before our flight back, it was a good distance to get to the airport.

  • Firstly the cottage itself is beautiful and cosy and wonderfully decorated to make anyone feel right at home. The scenery in this part of the countryside is beautiful. There are no words to really explain its beauty, it is one to be experienced with an incredible sense of serenity. Secondly the hosts, Paul and Ruby are very conscientious of their guests stay and go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your stay. They offer an above standard sense of homely ness aswell as being incredible hosts they also leave you your privacy and are so kind. It was a pleasure to stay here and I would love to go back again.

Wilderness Cottage, is a newly renovated, cosy & inviting space. Attached to our house & set on 1.5 acres in gorgeous countryside outside the village of Dunlavin. Wilderness Lodge is home to Raymond, Jenny, their two children & two friendly dogs! Surrounded by fields & nature we have the luxury of an incredibly quiet & idyllic setting. A base to explore Wicklow & all its surrounds or a comfortable nearby stay if attending a Wedding in Rathsallagh.
Renovated recently to a high standard, this cottage while has all modern convenience still holds the charm of country life. Set outside the village we are surrounded by fields & nature, a space to truly switch off, just the sound of munching cows, birds and the odd car!
Dunlavin boasts a couple of excellent eateries, An Lár offering delicious Vegan & Vegetarian food with freshly baked Organic bread daily the other is a pop up bakery opening fri & sat with amazing fresh bread, pizzas and brunch menu. Both serving excellent coffee!! There are two organic farms who open their farm shops on Fridays, also excellent Butchers who stocks a lot of their own free range meat; you can ensure to source some amazing local food. (we'd be happy to help with Organic Veg supplies in particular if you are managing a healing diet).
  • Wilderness Cottage is exactly as it says and more, in many ways undressing itself. Really lovely lodgings, in such a peaceful setting, (I have not experienced quietness like that for some time!!!), along with a welcome & visit from the fluffy dogs & great communication with Jenny (the host) made my stay there nurturing & comfortable. Freshly baked organic Sourdough bread from the local bakers & honey made by bee keepers who live up the road was left as a welcome for me, what a luxury! Another wonderful touch is the soap left in the bathroom is also organic and made locally, its like a wok of art! I would highly recommend this property, in particular as a sole traveller, I felt very safe & cosy. I will definitely return.

Soak up the atmosphere in this freshly renovated stone mews, has all the modern touches but still has a country feel to it. It is set up with 2 single beds, but they can be pushed together and made into a large double bed if this is preferred. Just let me know when making the booking.
Rural setting just below Church Mountain, and yet only 5 minutes from Hollywood village. Quaint stone building but with all modern comforts including a smart TV, and access to Netflix, for those cosy nights in.
We are lucky to have such a rural setting and peaceful environment, yet so close to the N81 to access Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare etc.
  • Sandra’s place is a lovely quirky cottage with modern, stylish interior. Very clean and well equipped. The beds are really comfortable. She greeted us and was very friendly and welcoming. Great communication. You will definitely need a car but it is worth it. The bathroom and bedroom are in the attic so it might be a problem for tall people. Otherwise we enjoyed staying here. We would definitely recommend it.

  • This house is just the most loving space ever. From all the details of the interior to the fantastic view, we couldn't have chosen a better home. Julia is extremely friendly and very attentive. He gave us tips to go to the Pub that was in the small village and have breakfast in an existing café there, and it could not have been more satisfactory. If I get the chance, I will definitely be back !!

    Ana2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Julia is a warm and personable host. She has created a beautiful home that has every convenience you can imagine. The Stables is centrally located to Dublin and the Wicklow Mountains and I can't recommend it highly enough.

  • What a beautiful home from home, we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. Julia has made it so cosy and we loved every moment of our stay. Picturesque scenery. Our rating is definitely 15 out of 10 🤗

  • A fantastic renovation of the old stable; the quality of all the fittings from the kitchen to the linen made it feel extra luxurious. A beautiful area with a nice local pub within walking distance.

  • Cozy space. Located in a very serene area away from localities. The family that received us helped with the small adaptations to the realities of a new visited country. Repeating. It was an apartment that knew the home away from home. The only technical difficulty and which does not depend on the host is the mobile phone coverage which is not always guaranteed, but for those looking to disconnect from day-to-day until external help. Thank you to those who received us and the challenge remains for those who want to have a more modest experience in Ireland near the capital.

We really enjoyed our time chatting with Margaret and Denis, and our full Irish breakfast was nothing short of delicious! Great proximity to Dublin, smack dab in the middle of beautiful Irish Horse country! Room was extremely cozy and clean! We will be back!

    Scott2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Margaret and Dennis was easily the highlight of our travels around England, Scotland and Ireland! Their beautiful home and Airbnb spaces are perfect, comfortable, spotless, quiet and so refreshing! Margaret makes the best full Irish breakfast imaginable! We utilized the awesome horseback riding school there as well and went for a wonderful ride with Ella and Alana the morning we left. If you can, I highly recommend that as well. We can not recommend staying here enough!

    Jessa2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great awesome breakfast for all of us! Great and quiet place to relax!

    Daniel2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Margret is a wonderful host, she welcomed us in person at the place, prepared plentiful and very delicious breakfast for us 4 people, including porridge, self planted tomatoes, homemade yogurt and full Irish breakfast. It’s definitely a highlight to have a tasty soup, home made apple pie and Irish coffee after a hiking from Wicklow. Margret gave us many tips for restaurants, shopping and sightseeing at the area, and we quite enjoyed all of them. We experienced a very happy 3 days staying at the B&B, with every morning’s pleasant talk with Margret. The rooms are very spacious and clean, in a calm country surrounded by a large piece of green land, even you could try horse riding.

My home is a modern stone built country house set in the pretty village of Hollywood, Co Wicklow. We are blessed to live beside the stunning Blessington lakes and the Wicklow mountains with their many scenic walks and outstanding scenery. I am looking forward to welcoming guests to my family home and my intention is that people will enjoy a pleasant relaxing stay with me and I’ll be happy to guide you to the dozens of places of interest that surround Hollywood.
My home is comfortable laid back and relaxing with beautiful hilly views and an ideal spot to explore Wicklow and surrounding Kildare and of course Dublin. We are located close to Rathsallagh House, Tulfarris House Hotel and Avon Ri for wedding guests. Hikers will love the surrounding trails in the Wicklow mountains and exploring our many ancient stone circles, Dolmens and standing stone sites. Kildare offers the best in horse racing and golfing venues plus the national stud centre and Japanese gardens. The N81 at the end of my road will take you straight into Dublin city to enjoy the multitude of theatre’s, museums, parks, zoos, restaurants and popular pubs it has to offer. Or just relax and enjoy the local amenities such as the beautiful Russborough House with its parkland walks, playground for the kids, restaurant and guided house tours.
Hollywood is a beautiful little village with a strong community spirit and locals are very friendly and chatty. We have 2 pubs in the village that provide (allegedly!) the best pint of Guinness around and wonderful lunch and dinner menus. There is a local garage shop for essentials and fuel but any bigger shopping needs are best got in blessington where there is a good choice of supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, takeaways, hairdressers etc. I have to add that one of my favorite things to do around here is to take a walk around the shores of the beautiful Blessington lakes and woodlands to unwind and silently relax in our amazing natural landscape.
  • Tracy is a great host and ensures that you are made welcome, the room is spacious and very comfortable with you own bathroom area. This is a great find on Airb&b and we would stay there again should we come to stay in the area.

  • Our second stay with Tracey was just as good as the first time. Her hospitality is rare! We were very comfortable and happy in her home.

    Lydia2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Tracey was very welcoming and hospitable to us. We loved visiting with her about local life in Ireland and other topics. She gave us great tips for dinner and breakfast —at the local Hollywood bar and the Hollywood Cafe (wonderful scones and other breakfast food). Tracey’s Airbnb bedroom is cheerful and clean, and we were the only ones using the bathroom, which was clean and had plenty of hot water. Tracey offered to drive us to the start of the Coast to Coast walk, which was very kind of her. All in all, we had a fabulous experience staying at Tracey’s house.

Includes  - Kitchen, bedroom with ensuite and living area in private bunglow. - En-suite bathroom with toilet, sink & shower  - Brand new Eco friendly electric storage heaters. - Kitchen, with oven four ring hob and microwave. -Living room has four seater L shaped sofa bed with TV and wifi.
The house is situated at the foot of the Wicklow mountains. With the Wicklow way walk on our doorstep, ideal for hilwalkers. The property is very accessible from Dublin. Glendalough is 25 minutes drive through beautiful scenery full of rivers and mountains. Kildare is home to many horse studs and racing venues and are all within 10-20mins drive. The local village Hollywood is home to traditional music and great food as is Ballymore Eustace with its award winning restaurant. Blessington town 12km and Naas 18km are both good places to do your food shop, browse book and clothes shops and have coffee!
  • We wanted to get out of the city for a couple days but not go too far as we're new to driving on the other side of the road, so I opted for this Hollywood guesthouse as it's less an hour out of town. I am so happy we did! Our stay was blissful. Hollywood is the most charming village, the view from the guesthouse is unbelievable, the pub is just a few steps away, and the cafe is just a few steps more. This location is a close distance to the Wicklow mountains - we were planning to spend one of the days driving through the mountains but it was rainy and things were closed due to the New Year and mostly, staying in town was so cozy we decided to save it for another trip. Liam stocked us up with the basics - milk, cheese, ham, cereal, juice - which wasn't necessary but truly appreciated. It was a perfect stay and serene beautiful way to start the year. I definitely hope to return on my next trip, and hopefully for the pre-1950s fair!

  • This place is wonderful, do not hesitate to stay here! A quiet and peaceful retreat with everything you need. The host is extremely generous and thoughtful. The fridge and cupboards were stocked, the beds comfortable, the shower hot. We will definitely recommend Sharon's place and hopefully stay there again.

  • Super helpful and generous hosts. Went out of their way to make sure we had a good time. The breakfast bits that were stocked in the fridge (eggs, cheese, ham and bread) was a very nice touch. It does get quite cold inside, but once the heaters run it's not bad. If you want to see the surrounding areas, I definitely recommend this as a base.

    David2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Sharon’s bungalow was a great start into our Ireland round trip. We were welcomed by Liam who showed us around and even helped us when we had trouble locking the door. The fridge was equipped with breakfast food and fresh fruit was on the table. We really enjoyed Hollywood!

    Maria2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable accommodation complete with babbling brook to help sleep. Perfect position too. Near to wonderful pub and local cafe, plus great if you are walking up the original Hollywood hills! A lovely experience.

  • Excellent stay start to finish. Great communication and Pat and Agnes were only a phone call away if we needed anything. The house is sparkling throughout with good quality cooking utensils, bed linen towels etc. We were at Mondello all weekend racing and this place was lovely to come back, have a shower put our feet up and chill out with an excellent choice of television via the virgin TV box. The house is in an excellent location with plenty of pubs around and a choice of takeaways if you fancy a night of the cooking. Thanks again Guys hopefully stay with you the same time next year.

  • We had a really great stay at Pat’s fantastic, very recently renovated 3 bedroomed house. Pat was an excellent host: very helpful and responsive and very hospitable. The house is very comfortable and well equipped with lots of extras including Netflix, Amazon Prime, coffee, milk etc. Its a great find and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it. We will definitely be back to stay when we are next over in Ireland.

The converted wing of a Palladian Georgian house (built in 1750), now an idyllic, private, cosy two-storey retreat, with a bright kitchen/dining area upstairs, looking out through French doors into atmospheric gardens and the ancient monastic ruins surroundingThe Moone High Cross.
Tucked into the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains, yet only an hour from the capital, Moone Abbey offers a hideaway from a busy and hectic world. Enveloped in countryside, with the river Griese flowing gently before it, the ruins of the 6th century Columban monastery of Moone behind, the picturesque Georgian house has an air of peace and serenity, evoking a thousand years of meditation and contemplation. The accommodation itself is a two-storied apartment situated within one wing of the house. Accessed through a cobblestone courtyard, the downstairs of the house contains the main bedroom and bathroom, both bright, clean, and serene. The kitchen/dining room, recent refitted, looks out onto our atmospheric back garden, and beyond the wall, the ruins of a monastic abbey can be seen. The sitting room, with its open fireplace, evokes an elegant past, with plenty of books, and sofas upon which to read them. The attaching farm provides guests with the opportunity to explore the farmland trails and taste fresh Irish milk and eggs. A little closer to the apartment itself, guests can linger in the walled gardens, play tennis on the private hardcourt, and discover the ancient High Cross of Moone.
Moone is a tranquil, southerly sliver of Kildare. Located in the foothills of the Wicklow mountains, the village itself is situated on the slopes of a gently dipping valley, of which Moone Abbey is the heart, hence to ancients located a monastery here. The village contains a little shop and post office, a church, and a park. Slightly further afield are a number of small pubs, notably the atmospheric Moone High Cross Inn. The nearest local towns are Athy, Baltinglass, and Castledermot, with Naas and Carlow only twenty minutes away.
  • What a gem this place is! The space is lovely and comfortable and has everything you need to feel at home. The grounds are spectacular, take advantage of the opportunity to explore, it is truly a unique and wonderful place.

    Siolo2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • My schedule was a little hectic this time but it felt like home away from home, leaving and coming back at very weird hours!!! But everything was perfect and so peaceful

    Wade2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing!! It ticks all the boxes on a typical great Airbnb (clean, with all the right amenities, etc) but with the added bonus of being an incredible place with warm, welcoming hosts (both human and four-legged varieties). Loved being out in the country but still very much accessible to other areas we wanted to visit. The hosts were so generous and gave fantastic recommendations on where to go/eat. Loved being greeted by Yellow as we came and went everyday. Couldn’t have asked for more!

    Jess2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Go ahead with your eyes closed, because it's a magical place; you have the "Moone High Cross" just behind the house, an old tower in front ... and when you add the comfort, the decor, the garden ... it's more than perfect. I can not wait to return to.

    Caroline2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • My stay here was so brief I didn't get a chance to explore, but I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, the apartment was so comfortable and spacious, and hosts so lovely and welcoming.

    Kristiine2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Breathtaking property. Driving in the gates we both exhaled a big WOWWWWW. Truly incredible to stay in a property with such rich history. Jenifer and Karl were kind, gracious and warm. We were taken on a wonderful tour of the High Cross, the farm, the gorgeous main house. A big highlight for us were Yellow and Molly the two beautiful and friendly dogs. The kitchen was well equipped and had farm fresh eggs, bread and a delicious cake. We were attending a wedding at Kilkea Castle and the 9 minute drive was very easy and convenient. Highly recommended Airbnb! Thanks again Jenifer and Karl!

    Matt2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at Moone Abbey. The house is very comfortable and Jenifer a perfect host. Jenifer had left cakes on the kitchen table and apples for our arrival. She took the time to show us around the house and the former abbey. We recommend warmly the place. Very convenient to visit Kildare county and all great houses and gardens there.

    Sebastien2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place is an absolute treat, a perfect combination of ancient ruins, comfortable spacious accommodation, welcoming hosts and host dogs! We went and had a wee tour of the milking parlour which was really interesting (esp coming from farming families ourselves). All in all a great way to end the trip. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending this as a great place to stay, relax and explore! Ps go check out Rossborough House - it’s incredible.

Spacious 3 bedroom, 2-bathroom cottage in immaculate condition. Comfortably sleeps 7. Three King size bedrooms, with the option to put a single bed or baby's crib in one of the rooms Situated in Calverstown, just off the M9 motorway, near the towns of Kilcullen, Naas, & Newbridge.
Our property is in a quiet relaxing location, somewhere to chill out after a hectic day of visiting many of the attractions around, or horse racing, sight seeing, golfing, hill walking or shopping We are surrounded by rolling hills, of country side, with fantastic view of the Wicklow mountains.
Calverstown is a lovely quiet country village, conveniently located near the the M9 & M7, and the towns of Kilcullen, Naas and Newbridge. Also in close proximity are Kildare Outlet Village, Punchestown Racecourse, and the Curragh. There are very good resturants within a short distance - Fallon's Bar & Restaurant with both bar and restaurant menu's. Bardon's (Gastro pub) for great low-key dining. The Brown Bear - bar & restaurant. Ballymore Inn - Bar & Restaurant. Traditional Irish music in local bars too. The Curragh is also close by: A flat open plain of almost 5,000 acres (20 km²) of common land in County Kildare, Ireland, between Newbridge and Kildare. This area is well known for Irish horse breeding and training. Also located here is Pollardstown Fen, the largest fen in Ireland. This area is of particular interest to botanists and ecologists because of the numerous bird species that nest and visit there. There are also many rare plants that grow there.
  • Great location, great layout, great bathrooms, very clean and perfectly placed large windows to view morning sunsets! Would recommend to anyone. We visit that area often and did not need a lot of local tips, but I am certain Una and Pat could help with finding any information you need. They were very responsive to any questions we did ask prior to booking and throughout organizing a few things for our Christmas visit.

    David2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic venue, set against a spectacular landscape. Safe and secure behind electric gates. Photos do not do the accommodation justice. The Hosts are also friendly and efficient, with good recommendations for food and activities in the local area. Will definitely return next time we are in Ireland :)

    Kevin2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Really recommend this place. Una and Pat are fantastic hosts.

    Denise2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at Deerpark Cottage in Kilcullen. The property, location and hosts were second to none. Pat and Una Donnelly were fantastic hosts. The arrival instructions were precise and the follow up before we arrived was spot on. They had a welcome kit for us when we arrived that included wine, coffee, tea, bread etc....very kind of them. The Deerpark Cottage is on Pat and Una’s working farm. We had the chance to see Pat work the land and livestock and had many great chats with Pat and Una. Both Pat and Una are proud citizens of Ireland and kept us informed on the history and culture of this great country. Their recommendations for restaurants, local attractions and sightseeing trips were perfect. We loved our chats with the hosts and the impromptu visits from Pat as he headed to and from the fields. We can’t forget to mention their dogs, Suzie and Roxy....two spirited companions who could be in the fields one minute; the next minute at your door paying you a visit. We can’t say enough kind words about Pat and Una, (and of course Suzie and Roxy) they treated us like family and were exceptional hosts. We were a party of four. The cottage was perfect for us. Everything that was advertised was in the cottage. Very well equipped with new appliances, spacious rooms and excellent washrooms. The cottage was absolutely spotless when we arrived. As I mentioned, the cottage is on Pat and Una’s family farm. The view from the front porch and all the rooms is spectacular! You look east across a valley of multicolour fields across the the Wicklow Mountains. The height of land in eastern Ireland is the view from the cottage. The fields are full of a variety of birds and wildlife. We regularly saw rabbits and fox moving around and we’re told deer are often seen moving through the valley. This was our fourth trip to Ireland. We’ve done the bus tours of Kerry and walking tours of Dublin and we’re looking for a more unique and authentic Irish vacation. We found it at Pat and Una’s place. Kildare is a prosperous county with world class horse farms. Absolutely amazing to see. Just a short drive from the Dublin airport, Deerpark Cottage was the ideal home base for us. A couple of us brought our bikes and started each day with a bike ride on perfect cycling roads. We had short rides and long rides through the week, everyone of them unique and rewarding. Drivers in Ireland are very courteous of bike riders and gave us way and space as we rode around the spiderweb of roads in the county. Every afternoon then we’d head off to do some sight seeing. Notable destinations such as Wicklow, Waterford, Kilkenny and Cork are within a reasonable drive. We didn’t tour Dublin, but it too would be an easy drive if you wanted to see the sights there. Kildare has sights, proximity, sports, fine dining and even outlet shopping. 5 out of 5 stars does not do justice for this review. The location is ideal, the property is top notch and the hosts are as gracious and generous as can be. Thanks to Una and Pat for a great week....can’t wait to come back!

    Patrick2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Una and Pat are very friendly and welcoming. The cottage is lovely and very comfortable. Una had the heating on when we arrived and the house was very cosy. This is not just a holiday let but a beautiful and well maintained home. It was spotless and had everything we needed. There are 3 large bedrooms, 1 en suite and a lovely sitting room/dining space and kitchen. Lots of room for our party of 6 adults. The views are breathtaking and it was very restful just to sit and look out the windows. The area is very peaceful. We were only 10 minutes from Kilcullen and 15 mins from Newbridge. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and meeting Una and Pat and would love to go back in the not too distant future.

They were also able to help provide fresh towels for when we had some new guests arrive. The house was fantastic, clean, spacious and with a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside.

  • Very warm and obliging hosts! We really felt very well, all in all, for the price wonderful! Without a car, the area is not recommended. Always worth a stay.

  • We rented Ellen’s home for our family of 5, for a long weekend. The location and views are fantastic. The home is clean, beds super comfortable, and Ellen’s little touches like wine and breakfast were the icing on the cake.

  • Ellen's enchanting home on a hill that overlooks a pastoral setting. It is perfect for accessing the Wicklow Mountains. Baltinglass is a beautiful village. Sometimes, it is great just being some place watching people go about their lives, it makes you appreciate how beautiful people are and it makes the world feel smaller. Tell Ellen about your interests, she can really read people: Her suggestions regarding places to visit locally were excellent: "Duckett's Grove", Altamont Gardens and Community Cafe. I wish that I had stayed longer. Ellen's home and the surrounding area were my first experiences with Ireland--I will always cherish this memory.

  • Wow. Absolutely outstanding in every aspect. Ellen is the best host I have ever stayed with!! She gave tons of recommendations on activities and places to go during our stay, each of which was amazing. She even cooked a delicious Irish breakfast one morning! The house is amazing and feels so homey and warm. The space is vibrant with tasteful updates and renovations. If you are looking for a lovely weekend at an affordable price in a cozy home, stay with Ellen!!
