Places to stay in Dolphin Sands

Places to stay in Dolphin Sands
We think our architecturally designed house is a perfect romantic getaway. We built it for the view, so you can relax with a coffee/wine and enjoy the best of Tasmania's east coast, in comfort. Stroll along the deserted beach & read or listen to our record collection by the fire.
Private bush and beach setting. Very new architecturally designed one bedroom house. This is a quiet, 'non-touristy' area, but in view of Tasmania's East Coast icons. The beach is really long and it's often hard to spot others enjoying it. Fully self contained. All linen provided. The kitchen has a quality, oven, rangehood, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, pots, pans, cutlery and crockery etc, etc. No dishwasher I'm afraid. The bathroom has a big shower area, efficient flush toilet (on a septic system). There is no laundry. But there's a laundromat in Swansea, ten minutes away. We're on tank water, so there's no spa, and water isn't unlimited (10,000L for domestic plus 10,000L reserved for fire). There is a wood heater and plenty of wood if the weather turns nasty, but this is a warm house, so it's very unlikely you'll need it in the warmer months. There's a renovated record player and a library of records. Key collectable from key-safe at gate. We'll advise the code and give other introductory detail the day before you arrive. At times we'll be staying nearby and will be available to show guests the property. Very quiet area. Five acre lots with non permanent residents. The beach is often completely empty (all nine miles). Beautiful, abundant bird and wildlife. Open up the big sliders in the morning and listen to the amazing birdlife. Occasionally we see a snake in warmer months, so keep a watch out when you're on the beach track. You can catch flathead off the beach, if you're patient. A kayak will improve your chances. The beach faces due south and catches a consistent swell. It can be really fun to body surf, and occasionally it's wild. You need to be careful with very small children or non-proficient swimmers. But there are safe places for littleuns to swim nearby. From 'the Lighthouse' you are close (45 min) to iconic Coles Bay and Freycinet, and Maria Island ferry service (50min). We won't try to list all the east coast attractions here. Things to do at our place though, include: everything that might involve the view, and coffee and reading and games and music; beach walks or rides; swimming and body surfing; fishing; sailing. Visit yellowbanks on the lagoon, or the mouth of the lagoon where many people fish and swim, and the pelicans and waterbirds are amazing. Unfortunately we’re not equipped for wheel-chairs. Both external entrances require you to scale stairs. There is a caravan on the lower quarter of this five acre block, obscured by bush. At times we might be using this caravan, but our guests in the lighthouse will have complete privacy. Guests have a separate track to the beach.

  • We have really enjoyed this relaxing beautiful place that makes you feel home immediately. The view is amazing and the environment is wonderful to explore. We adored listening the LP-albums with some good wines and oysters. Don't hesitate to book this beautiful place.

  • Great place with stunning views over the Hazards. We didn’t see a single soul on the beach and it felt like our own private getaway. Perfect base for exploring the East coast wineries, day walks or just for relaxation. Highly recommend!!

    Dolphin Sands, TAS, Australia

Well appointed absolute waterfront property, situated on beautiful Nine Mile Beach.
This beautiful 2 bedroom property is situated just a stone's throw from unspoilt 9 Mile Beach, with private access via the front of the property. Just 12.5 kms from the picturesque township of Swansea, where a variety of eating establishments, local art/craft shops and fully stocked general store are ready and waiting. Approx 150 kms from Hobart and Launceston (1.5-2 hrs drive), Beach Haven is the perfect base for day trips to other beauty spots along the east coast of Tasmania, such as Coles Bay & the Freycinet Peninsula, Bicheno, Friendly Beaches and the world renowned Bay of Fires. As well as a wonderful array of options for fresh produce, such as seafood, fruit and world class wines. The Kitchen is fully equipped for cooking for yourselves, or storing/reheating food that you purchase in your travels. Should you wish to cook, we have the following available for your use (other than the usual oven and fridge, of course!): Microwave Oven Bread Maker Slow Cooker Mixer Sandwich Press Kettle Toaster The Bathroom has all the standard amenities...sink...toilet...shower....but, even better, it has a corner spa as well! We pledge to keep a healthy stockpile of scented candles on hand, for those romantic moments...and maybe a megaphone, to use to get the kids out of the bath! ;) The Living Area is comfortable, light and airy, with a stylish woodburner for those colder nights/days and a fully stocked woodpile to keep the flames burning. There is a fully stocked bookshelf, with a wide variety of authors and titles, for the kids and the grown-ups staying with us, as well as a collection of DVDs to suit a variety of tastes, including well known children's titles. We have a large variety of toys for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers, as well as board games for older kids and a healthy stock of paper, colouring in books and pencils/crayons. We know how much kids love playing with different toys (those that aren't theirs!) and hope these provide happy playing time and, subsequently, happy relaxing time for parents/carers too. Outdoors, we have furniture on the deck for your comfort and for the purpose of eating outdoors. We also have a viewing platform, less than a dozen steps from the front door, where you can sit and admire the beautiful view...read a book, sip a glass of wine. Unfortunately, we are unable to supply any inflatable water equipment or watercraft, for safety and liability reasons. We are contactable by phone but allow our guests total privacy during their stay. As parents of two young children ourselves (7 yrs and 10 yrs), we know how important, and sometimes difficult, it is to find truly family friendly accommodation. We also realise the amount of packing that needs to be done, when holidaying with small children, and we hope to alleviate some of this burden, by having toys etc on site, for your use. There is a portacot and appropriate bedding on site and some freshly washed baby/toddler sleeping bags can be requested on booking (we know what a pain it is to have to pack these things...they take up half the luggage!). We may not have anything that suits your exact requirements though, so please do ask us on booking, as there is nothing worse than getting to bedtime and realising the desirable sleep requirements aren't available to you. There is also a Baby Bjorn carrier on site. Whilst pretty well loved, it is sound and functional and perfect for a handsfree stroll along the beach...and maybe even to get bub to sleep. We welcome you to use all the above and just ask that you treat them as you would your own and report any breakages/damage on check-out, so that we can either repair or replace the item. This will also remove any possible hazards for the next family to rent the property. Above all, we really hope you and your family thoroughly enjoy your stay at Beach Haven and you love watching your little ones roam and explore.
Close to wonderful wineries, supermarkets, petrol station and small eateries
  • When you love the sea and the dunes this is the best place for you! House with an "be outside" feeling because of big windows all around! Beach is wonderful for walking and collecting seashells! Beautiful sunrises and so calm! We had a nice stay! Thank you!

  • A great house for a beach holiday and an amazing location. Brilliant for access to Freycinet. Highly recommend.

    Cathy2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here. Liz is a very friendly and responsive host. The house is very relaxing with comfy couches in a nice open living area. The front deck catches lots of sun in summer and is a nice place to chill and enjoy a wine or read a book. And as for the beach - we got some lovely weather with clear blue skies and had almost exclusive access to the beautiful Nine Mile Beach with lovely views across Great Oyster Bay to the Hazards, Schouten Island and Maria Island. A fabulous weekend getaway.

  • The perfect house for a secluded little getaway... would suit couples or families ( we have 4 kids) A lovely modern house with everything you could want. The lounge/dining room is surrounded by wall to ceiling glass for which u can take in the views of Freycinet N.P or the amazing sunsets! Liz was the perfect host.. always so prompt with any questions we had. We will never forget our stay.

  • An exceptional location in the dunes, along a superb deserted beach and under the magnificent starry sky of Tasmania, what better way to spend the New Year's night? Liz's house is spacious, very well equipped, very bright, and ideally located if you want to spend a stay in the great outdoors and away from the crowds. Be careful, in return, the first shops and restaurants are a 15-minute drive away (and the Freycinet park is almost an hour away even if it's very close as the crow flies). We did not meet Liz who does not live on site but the exchanges with her were fluid and pleasant; very responsive to answer or advise us, the instructions she gives to find the house and collect the keys are clear and precise. In conclusion, a really warm and friendly host, and a comfortable, pleasant and practical house with an exceptional location. ---------- An exceptional location in the dunes, along a superb deserted beach and under the magnificent Tasmanian starry sky, what better way to spend New Year's Eve? • Great location walking distance to a private beach with beautiful views. Perfect restful spot after our hike up to the Wineglass Bay lookout. If we’d staid there longer I would have cooked because the kitchen was well stocked and included a stove. Thanks, Leslie

    Leslie2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • The location is one of the best features of the house as it is located in the sand dunes right near the beach. It felt like we were the only people there and we had the beautiful beach to ourselves.

    Brian2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great hideaway right on the beach, a lovely stopover on our way up the coast.

    Katie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Right on the beach, you can hear the waves lulling you to sleep. Very clean home and comfortable too! This was a great base to explore Freycinet and local wineries. Definitely watch your speed on the nearby roads for wallabies and other cute critters bounding around especially around breakfast and dinner times.

  • Delightful beach house, literally steps away from the beautiful Dolphin Sands beach, with views of the Hazards, Great Oyster Bay and Swansea. House was well-appointed, with a decent kitchen, bright and cheerful throughout and nicely decocrated. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms clean and modern. It's not too far from Swansea which has basic groceries, and a few places to eat. Best part about it was the lovely peace and quiet. Host Louise was prompt and clear with her communication. Very highly recommended!

Louise is an excellent host who responds quickly and has great tips for things to do and see in the area. The little town nearby has everything you’d need and it’s the perfect spot located about halfway between beautiful Wineglass Bay and the Ferry to Maria Island. Wish we could have stayed longer.

  • Southerly's is an amazing place. Perfect views of the hazards and our very own private beach. Coming back from exploring wineglass bay and starting the fireplace was great fun. Everything is there for a comfortable stay for 4 people - the two bathrooms are a bonus. Well stocked cupboard and melshell oyster shack just down the road make this a perfect base for exploring Bicheno, Wineglass bay, Swansea....beautiful!

  • At first I thought it was a disappointment to be located in the pictorial wasteland that is developing Swanwick, away from Coles Bay, but the amenities and view transcended back blocks Swanwick. Ultra modern amenities, and the visuals from the beach, only several hundred metres away, overlooking the Swan River mouth and Dolphin Sound, are magnificent. Stunning sunset, with great photos for memories.

    Evan2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Super stylish house with an excellent view in a private setting to relax. Piper2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Anne’s place. Our welcome was warm and full of local tips and tricks (food, wine, swimming and hikes), and a friendly walk around the property. The place was small but cozy and well laid-out, and very functional! The yard was fenced off and perfect for the dog, too, who Anne kindly offered to care for while we were away on day trips. 9 Mile Beach is a very short walk away, and sunrise/sunset walks are a must! Thanks again for our stay and your hospitality, Anne. We’ll be back again soon!

    Dolphin Sands, TAS, Australia

Banksia Cabin is nestled behind the dunes of Dolphin Sands, with direct access to the ocean beach and stunning views of the Hazards and Freycinet Peninsula. It is the perfect location for a rustic retreat from the hectic pace of life. Stroll the golden sands of Nine Mile Beach, watch the weather roll by, gaze at the starry skies, enjoy cosy evenings cooking with family and friends, and fall asleep to the sound of waves on the shore. Swim in the sea or the warmer waters of the Swan River.
Banksia Cabin is actually several cabins. It's charming, creative and cosy, reminiscent of childhood holidays and simpler times. The Main Cabin houses the living, dining and kitchen with a bathroom. There's a gas heater inside and at the flick of a switch it looks just like a wood fire, without the hassle of firewood. The Bedroom Cabin is situated a couple of meters along the deck from the Main Cabin, with shutters and portholes, and is divided into 2 areas and ideally sleeps 2-3, either in the sublimely comfy queen bed or double. A bathroom with a toilet and a cast iron bath is situated inside the Main Cabin. The other bathroom is accessed via a timber decked walkway from the Main Cabin and contains a shower, toilet, washing machine and trough sink. So please note that there are no en suites and that a trip to the toilet in the night involves leaving your cabin. You will be blown away by the stars so it's really quite nice. The kitchen area is compact but there are very good quality pots and pans, utensils, cutlery and crockery. The range has gas hobs and an electric convection oven. There is a long wooden table for lazy lunches and candles in bottles for cozy dinner conversations. A toasted sandwich maker is great for a quick snack and there is a toaster, stove top espresso pot and a vacuum for little messes. Fridge space is adequate but not huge, so a midweek shop for week long stayers might be a good idea. The design of Banksia Cabin is to maximise your relaxation by interaction with the outdoors, a comfortable step up from camping. There are simple gas barbecue facilities near the campfire and a table and benches with umbrellas for shade. If you need to do a load of washing, feel free. Washing powder is provided and there's an inside clothes rack for smalls and a huge Hill's Hoist clothes line outside.
Situated on 9 Mile Beach, long beach walks are essential, as is swimming in the surf on the main beach and in the Swan River, only a couple of hundred metres from your door. There's a fishing rod provided, so we suggest you pick up some bait in Swansea and head for the river mouth for Bream, Flathead and Cocky Salmon. We've provided some deck chairs and an eski, so take these along. When the surfs up, 9 Mile Beach is great for boogie boarding. For serious surfers, the reef beyond the sand bar is a famous surf spot when conditions are right. The rural township of Swansea is 20 minutes away for shopping, a meal out and the golf course. Local vineyard cellar doors, such as Milton, Devils Corner, Springvale and Gala are close by on the Tasman Highway. As this is a 5 acre block, the nearest house/camping is a long way away so you will have complete privacy. Most of the time you will be the only people on the beach. The beautiful Freycinet Peninsula and National Park, that you can see from the beach, are close as the crow flies but are about an hour away by car and make an excellent destination for a day trip. Oyster Bay Seafood in Swansea does great fish and chips as well as fresh oysters and crayfish in season. Melshell Oysters are available to purchase off Yellow Sand Banks Road in season. Springvale Vineyard, just a bit further north, has been hosting a pop-up seafood restaurant in Summer and it has been extremely popular.
  • Overall, a great stay. I’d recommend it if you’re cool with having the bedroom, living room and shower in separate cabins. Other than that, very comfortable and great for a two-night escape. PS: Take a drive out to Craigie Knowe Vineyard - the wines and chocolates are wonderful, and so are the three dogs!

  • We loved our stay here. A stylish place with everything you need and more. Sunsets looking over the Hazards were amazing, enjoyed with local wine and oysters from down the road. It took us about 45 min drive to Freycinet NP. We would definitely stay here again.

A modern home, surrounded by native bushland and wildlife, only a few steps down your own private track to nine miles of beach. The sun rises over mountains and the turquoise waters of the bay: all viewable from the bedrooms, decks and lounge. Stay for a couple of nights, or take advantage of a weekly discount and make this your perfect base for a visit to all the East Coast has to offer.
Surrounded by natural bushland, you'll wake up to bird calls and a glorious sunrise over mountains and a blue bay. You are 10 minutes drive to the picturesque little town of Swansea with restaurants, galleries and stores (or you can get there with a 20-minute stroll along the beach). And you are on Tassie's East Coast, with beautiful beaches and cliffs and wildlife and food and wine and...
Swansea has won "Tidy Town" awards. It's a quaint little seaside town that still has more than the essential amenities. Along with an (historic) general store, there's a bakery, tavern, restaurants, galleries, pharmacy etc. ..and just outside of town there's berry farms and wineries. The house isn't in Swansea itself, but you can see Swansea down the beach, and walk there easily enough. Instead, the house is surrounded by trees on a large property that backs directly on to the beach.
  • Modern comfortable home in a wonderful private location. We were sad to leave. Great base for exploring the area. Excellent tips from host.Host quick in response. Excellent directions for access to the home. Would stay again in a heartbeat and feel fortunate to have had the experience of staying in Scott’s home. Thanks Scott!

  • We spent a very nice time in this excellent accommodation. The house is stylish and leaves nothing to be desired. It is cosy in any weather with a sensational view. The surroundings are also great. We made very good hikes and enjoyed the beach. The host is friendly, helpful and likeable. A place we highly recommend and would like to come back again. Thank you very much, Scott!

  • A beautiful beachside house that has all you need to feel relaxed and at home. The views of the beach are lovely and the peace and quiet was very much welcomed. Highly recommended.

    Kirstin2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Scotts place is steps from the beach front in a private setting that was everything we needed. With airconditioning, and an outdoor shower which was very handy after our beachwalks. Shops including an IGA at Swansea (about 30 min away) covered us for immediate grocery needs. The home made icecream at 'The Pondering Frog' as well as the Berry products at Kate's Berry Farm were a hit with our crew! Scott was great with communication and accommodated some special requests needed for my disabled child. I recommend the home, the host and the idyllic Dolphin Sands area. We would love to visit again sometime.

  • Great house, great location & great host! Scott’s modern and comfortable beach house is situated on a lovely bush block with abundant bird life, beach frontage and stunning views of the Hazards. The front and back decks are drenched with morning and afternoon sun. The house was well equipped with everything you need. The beautiful beach is a few steps away from the house and the addition of an outdoor shower was a real luxury. Thank you so much for a fantastic holiday on the east coast.

  • This home has the most amazing views, is so spacious and well laid out, with a lovely short walk to the beach, comfy beds and a very well appointed kitchen. The fire was lovely on the cooler nights and it was a great base for exploring the area. Lovely, thank you!

  • A beautiful place to relax and unwind while taking in the stunning views. Well appointed home which has everything you need for a memorable break. We’ll be back.

  • Matt and Kristen' house was in a wonderful location. The 9 mile beach was on a lovely stretch of coast and for both walks we took we were totally alone, which you can't find in many places. We loved the log burner and my husband was quite enthusiastic in collecting wood to keep it going as one day was pretty stormy and it was quite chilly. The coffee machine was a nespresso and although there were no coffee pods left out for us to use, they were available at the IGA at the General Store in town. There wasn't any WIFI but the 4G worked on our phones. We had a lovely stay in this unique location and would definately visit again.

  • Spectacular! The photos don’t do the panoramic views of the Freycinet and the sea justice. So relaxing and secluded, we felt so isolated. Great kitchen and comfortable beds. Can’t fault the place. We had an absolutely wonderful stay!

  • A super house in a simply stunning location; the views are just wonderful. It is peaceful, calm and totally idyllic. The 9 mile beach is a joy to be on and we were the only ones on it. Charmaine is a wonderful host and her little touches add delight, as you will discover. Plus in an area of few shops the items in the fridge are so welcome. Great hairdryer and toiletries. The double shower is brilliant as is the kitchen. Comfortable beds and great decor. Lots of books to read and helpful info in folders. We loved it! Just drive carefully and slowly at night, as the precious local wildlife is out and about in abundance.

    Judy2020-02-12T00:00:00Z

  • This house is true to its name - it is very peaceful and the garden is plentiful! We loved staying here and it was a true treat to listen to the ocean as you fall asleep. It felt like we were staying on a private beach as we came across no one during our walks. We also enjoyed being able to pick fresh produce from the garden and cook it in the well stocked kitchen. Charmaine is a great host and very responsive. We absolutely would stay again!

    Alice2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • A great dog-friendly getaway with direct private access to the beach. Beautiful open fire kept us warm.

  • You know what they say "location, location, location" and this place has that in spades! Love it!

    Sandra2019-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved the place! The location is amazing! Just 20m away from a private stretch of nine mile beach @ Dolphin sands! The property is very spacious and has pretty much everything that a family would need. The attention to detail with the decor and thoughtfulness with the amenities is amazing! We even had a baby chair and a set of books for our little one waiting for us. Would strongly recommend this place if you are planning to visit this part of Tazzy. We are definitely going back if we get a chance.

Uninterrupted views across Great Oyster Bay of both Swansea and Freycinet National Park including The Hazards and Schouten Island. A fantastic base to explore this part of Tasmania.

  • Great space with its own private beach just off the backyard. It’s pretty private,l and pretty spectacular. We went for daily swims! The house is wheelchair accessible with wide corridors and access to the bathroom and showers. Has most amenities, except for a dryer. Highly recommend. Dolphin sands is amazing.

    Harry2019-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wow we had a wonderful time at Nancy's place, the views were amazing, so quiet and peaceful, it was sparkling clean and just loved waking up listening to the waves, we will definitely be back.

Situated on private 5 acre, a 2 story modern house with windows 180 degrees around and large verandah overlooking Great Oyster Bay and Freycinet Nat Park. Private beach access to 9 Miles of beach. Ten min drive to Swansea cafes shops and supermarket.
Cape Glop is unique because of its views and private access to the beach. The beach is quiet and you hardly see more then the occasional visitor and dog, if at all. It is remote enough to feel relaxed and away but yet only 10min from the closest town with cafe's and two small supermarkets, a bakery, pub, and playgrounds to be able to get out for a quick coffee before heading off to national parks or back to the house.
The neighbourhood is remote as the property is on 5 acres and has barely got neighbours. The closest town is 10-12 minutes away and has all basic needs such as cafes, two small supermarkets, post office, bakery, pub, playgrounds, op-shop and a battleship.
  • We had a wonderful time at Cape Glop! The views were stunning - everyday the sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking. We had the whole beach to ourselves and by the end of our 9 day stay we were experts on all the bird species to be found! The house was lovely with a very beach-house feel and the amenities excellent. The bed upstairs was super comfy, the shower had excellent hot water pressure and having the coffee pods was a great bonus. We would definitely come back again and recommend Cape Glop to friends. Thanks, Betul and Dayne for being wonderful hosts! Deb & Guy

    Deb2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to relax and it's almost impossible to be closer to the ocean. You really have the beach almost for yourself, we only saw one other person during our week there. An hours drive from the Freycinet NP and perfectly situated for wine lovers with loads of cellar doors on the way. Can only recommend.

    Petra2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great few days spent at Cape Glop. The views and the house were a delight. Our family of four enjoyed the space and getaway at Doplhin Sands.

    Michael2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time at Cape Glop and we returned to find the same casual relaxing vibe we enjoyed so much the first time.

    Rob2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • The ultimate beach house! Views for days, big sun deck with furniture, ‘private’ beach access (we didn’t bump into a single person during our 4 night stay), amazing skies during sunset and at night (stars!). We enjoyed many home cooked meals, the spacious bathrooms and the kayak. Easy drive to Maria Island ferry and Freycinet NP. Highly recommend :)

  • This house is like being in paradise! It is well equipped, has wonderful little details and the most stunning view we had ever had on a holiday house. The beach is beautiful and you nearly have it for your own. Betul and Defne have been wonderful hosts. We have been here with two little kids and the and everybody loved it!

In Swansea - central to all attractions of the east coast, situated in a quiet location - one minute walk to the beach. 2 bedrooms, queen and two single beds, beautiful outlook. Child safe deck looking out to the bay. Off-street parking. No wifi.
The house easily accommodates four people. There are lovely bay views from the house and the spacious, enclosed deck, very suitable for small children. A portacot and high chair are included. Quiet location, but with lots to occupy your time. Beach walks, golf, fishing, biking, swimming, bird watching, snorkelling, history museum, penguin viewing and dining are just a few of the opportunities here, and of course, visiting the iconic Freycinet National Park incorporating Wineglass Bay, and Friendly Beaches. Don't forget to visit Cape Tourville lighthouse, and the amazing short coastal walk on the clifftops, and Sleepy Bay. To the south, Maria Island is well worth a visit. There is a barbecue available. If you would like to use this please notify us on arrival, and clean after use. The wood heater has a fan switch for added warmth. If you need help to light the fire please ask. The queen beds has an electric blanket, hot water bottles and covers are provided for the single beds. There is a coffee machine for your convenience. You bring your favourite blend. No wifi, but you can access it in the town at the visitor centre, in numerous establishments, and at the online access centre at the local school.
We do accept one night stays if a single night exists between other bookings. Our accommodation is located in a quiet area, in a cul de sac with a number of permanent residents. We respect the rights of our neighbours to peace and tranquility. We hope you will too. The house is a twenty minute walk from the local shops or a two minute drive. It should be noted that the last local supermarket, IGA, closes at 7 pm. If you are arriving later, it would be prudent to collect supplies in Hobart or Launceston, or on route Sorell ( South) or Campbell Town ( north). Swansea has a small number of restaurant choices, a pharmacy, a health centre with doctors available, an historical museum and travel office where tours and ferries can be booked. Golfers may enjoy a round on the 9 hole Swansea course located on Waterloo Point. The cost is $15 for a day, or $50 for a week with golf clubs included. Free WiFi is available in the town in numerous locations including the online access centre, for forty minutes, and this time can be extended if you buy something locally to the value of $3. You then obtain a voucher.

Scarecrow Cottage is a rustic & partly updated cottage situated a short 5 minute stroll from Swansea's shops, restaurants and the sea. A great location from which to experience the Great Eastern Drive, check out Freycinet National Park or just enjoy the laid back coastal vibe of Swansea and this beautiful part of the world. Enjoy relaxing by the fire and views of the stars at night. Self contained. No Wifi (public Wifi is 5 minutes walk away). More photos on instagram @scarecrowcottage
Scarecrow Cottage includes two very cosy bedrooms, living room with open fireplace, combined kitchen/dining, bathroom and a large and tranquil private backyard with native bush garden. One bedroom has a queen sized bed and the other has a double bed. Due to the age of the home the bedrooms are small. The whole cottage will be yours. It is a basic and cosy homely setting in a historic cottage, rather than modern luxury hotel accommodation that you will stay in when booking our partly updated 1800s cottage. Best suited to couples and small families looking for a homely environment. Entertainment includes a TV and DVD player, a small library and some boardgames. Basic cooking facilities are available including full oven, kettle, microwave and toaster. We have a beautiful fireplace (please bring firelighters and matches) but there is also electric heating should you wish. There is also an older style washing machine which you are free to use. Portacot available on request (linen not provided for portacot). If there is anything we can provide for your stay, please let us know and we will try to accommodate.
Like all spots on the East Coast, Swansea is a quaint coastal town, with limited opening hours at night. Bring your own supplies, or check out the local eateries early before they close. Stock up on supplies at Sorell if you are coming from Hobart. Dining options include the Homestead Restaurant at Piermont, the RSL, Artifakt, Saltshaker, and the Barkmill Tavern (amongst others). We are 5 minutes walking distance from Swansea's main restaurants and shops. Within easy access of two beaches, one being approximately 5 minutes walk and the other being approximately 10 minutes walk from the cottage. Within easy reach of oyster farms, the berry farm and wineries. Some of our guests have loved fishing down at the jetty just minutes walk from the cottage.
  • Cute, cosy cottage

  • Mitty's place is exceptional. The house's location is absolutely perfect, incredible views, the living and bedroom areas become absolutely flooded with light in the morning and the place heats up beautifully. The kitchen has everything you could want, the washing machine works a treat, and Mitty's local recommendations are absolutely on point. Absolutely beautiful place and an excellent host!

    Simeon2020-03-04T00:00:00Z

  • Lovely place with great character! Awesome location. We stayed during Tasmania’s hottest day so luckily made good use of the good sized pool. Recommend to anyone passing by Swansea area.

    Nick2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • AMAZING PLACE! We were lucky enough to stay here over Christmas and it was truly wonderful. Felt like we were living in the trees and the views are amazing. Kids spent hours in the pool, such a memorable stay, thank you

    Libby2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • It is hard to put into words the feeling that you first get when you walk up the stairs of this house and these huge glass walls facing the ocean just open up before your eyes. Just incredible. Such a perfect spot and so private and quiet. The bush block is great and you feel like you are on your own island with no one else around you. The house was very warm and charming and the master bedroom should win an award for its design to capture the views with the sunrise streaming in over the water onto your pillow when you wake up. I suspect I may never stay in a play this nice ever again. Mitty has kitted out the kitchen so well also to make cooking a treat. And the books and D.V.D's, art work on the walls all add to the experience. The beach was beautiful also. Great for walks, bringing your own kayaks would add another dimension as the water at the beach was too cold for us to swim as we are used to the Gold Coast in QLD....

  • What a great base to stay. Something quite magical about staying in such a quirky vehicle. The place was divine. I’d love to have one at home. It’s right in the centre of some great places to visit and in the evening you can watch out for the wallabies and the escapologist goats. Great fun. Linda made us feel very welcome.

Absolute waterfront property, colonial charm on the outside, modern on the inside, five minutes by car from Coles Bay shops, Wifi, TV, washer, stunning sunsets most nights, friendly birdlife, sunny courtyard sheltered from wind, cosy bedrooms, smart new bathroom and eclectic artwork. It's your choice to go out and explore or stay in and relax.
Old Boat Cottage is modelled on a colonial cottage in Richmond. The guest suite is situated to the side and back of the owner's adjoining cottage and has a separate entrance and a view of the water from the living room. It combines the charm of "ye olde" with modern touches. The simple galley kitchen is equipped with a toaster, microwave, small oven, two-plate stove, sandwich maker, rice cooker, ground coffee and French press, black, green and herbal tea, milk, olive oil, soy sauce, salt and pepper. If you are planning to cook souffles on holiday, this is not the kitchen for you, though one guest has cooked a cake in the oven! One bedroom has Balinese bed linen, the other has Laura Ashley; the main bedroom is a double, and the other is small and cosy with the queen bed up against the wall on one side. The artwork has been collected from all corners of the globe. A paradise for keen kayakers (can be hired in Coles Bay), birdwatchers (binoculars provided) and for gourmands with the oyster, scallop and mussel farm just two minutes away, and vineyards twenty minutes away.
Old Boat Cottage is surrounded by trees and there is a lagoon right out the front. This provides great opportunities for solitary walks, peace and privacy. Two wooden chairs on the waterfront provide the perfect place for a glass of Tassie wine at sunset. The shallow bay is fantastic for kayaking and bird watching. Birds seen on a regular basis include fairy wrens, scarlet robins, black swans, pelicans, yellow-tailed black cockatoos, New Holland honeyeaters and kookaburras. Coles Bay shops are just five minutes away by car, and Freycinet National Park entrance is 10 minutes away. Oysters, scallops and mussels can be bought two minutes up the road, and excellent wineries are twenty to thirty minutes away along the road to Swansea. Bicheno is a twenty-five minute car trip.
  • Lovely spot, very clean and comfortable. Right on the inlet, so relaxing with great sunsets and walks at low tide. Fresh fish available at Servo fish & chips. Calamari and Blue eye. Loved Friendly Beaches

  • Charming place with a charming host. Great view of sunsets over the bay.

    Melanie2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne's accommodation was more modern than I had anticipated and all the more comfortable. The view of the bay from the chairs overlooking the beach is really nice and one of the sunsets on our stay was truly memorable. We also enjoyed an evening meal at Big Pete's Eats Bar only 15 minutes walk away down the main Rd and into the golf course. Local beers and wines and as nice a burger and chips as you could want. We had a great stay and would recommend this place for anyone visiting the Coles Bay area.

  • If you are looking for a place to relax and unwind, this is it ! Comfortable accommodation away from the hustle and bustle, watch the birds as the sunsets and enjoy the serenity . Highly recommend!

  • Fabulous architect-designed house in a breathtaking location with incredible views. About an hour to the Freycinet peninsula but with wonderful beaches nearby. Swansea is a cute town with decent shops and restaurants. The house is perfect for a couple, with sliding doors from the master bedroom that face out to the sea. The en suite bathroom is awesome—you can see and hear the sea from the shower. We loved every minute of our stay and will definitely come back!

    Sarah2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is our dream home, we hope to visit again soon, and the views are nothing less than spectacular!

  • If you get the chance to stay in this gorgeous space in Rocky Hills, you must! I could harp on about how gorgeous the home is forever and the view is not quite like anything I have ever seen before, you'll never want to leave. It's close enough to Swansea to pop in and grab yourself some groceries before heading home for a BBQ on the deck. Be sure to wake up for sunrise too! I also found it a great base to do some hikes in the area and around at Freycinet National Park. Next time I'm back in Tassy, this place will absolutely be on my list again.

    Kate2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Rocky ridge was an incredible house with a view and location that was to die for. We really didn’t want to leave. I loved that the house was made with specially resourced materials - especially the floorboards with the resin; Amazing! There was a book with great recommendations of places to eat around the area and also a little background of the house and the location which was a really cool addition. We loved the historical component of the property, I just wanted to know more. The house was in a great location where you felt like you were the only ones there but also close enough to Swansea if you need supplies. This place made our holiday- Would love to come back to this magnificent house when we come back to tassie!

    Nick2020-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • This was such a beautiful haven in an equally beautiful location. The home could easily fit a couple of families, but was still a cosy space for just my husband and I. Paul and Nat went above and beyond to ensure we had the perfect Tasmanian experience, crackling fire, relaxing bath, stocked pantry - it was all there. Honestly, the bath is even better in real life - such a special experience after a day of hiking. They were also very easy to deal with, communication was quick and helpful. I just wish we had longer to enjoy this little piece of paradise!

    Hayley2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had the pleasure of staying at Paul and Nat’s place in Coles Bay for one night. The house is well equipped and the beds very comfortable. It is a short walk to the beach from the house. It has two living areas and an extensive collection of DVDs. The bath outside and tables and chairs on the deck are nice and have a good view. Paul was very accommodating with an issue with the heating to ensure we would be comfortable during our stay. We would happily stay at Paul and Nat’s place again.

  • Beautiful house in a quiet part of Coles bay. Stunning beach across the road and amazing views from the balcony as well. Although we did not use it, the outdoor bath is a lovely touch to the home. Everything you need and all close to amazing beaches and Freycinet national park! Paul and Nat were quick with their communication and the information provided on the area within the house booklet was very detailed and precise. Thanks again!

  • Such a great time at Lily and Joe's place. Outside of the great hospitality, we enjoyed the kitchen to have brekkie a coffee overlooking the farm in the morning and then it was great getting a tour of the farm from Joe as we fed the animals. If you're thinking of staying, do it!

  • We were a group of 3 and we all loved our 1 night stay!! The room was cozy, comfortable, clean, and felt very private. Check in was super easy and communication was perfect. We didn't end up cooking but the outdoor kitchen looked really fun for cooking. Joe introduced us to the farm animals before we checked out and we had a lot of fun feeding the animals!

Swansea on the Bay is a large holiday home accommodating up to 8 people very comfortably. Central to all attractions of the east coast, situated in a quiet location - one minute walk to the beach. 4 bedrooms, two queen, one double and two single beds. Two living areas and two large bathrooms. There is a beautiful outlook from the large covered deck looking out to the bay. Off-street parking. No wifi, so if this is an issue, reconsider your booking.
There are two sets of four stairs with handrails inside the house. Guests have access to the whole house, deck and garden. We reserve the right to enter the garden during your stay for watering and maintenance.
We do accept one night stays if a single night exists between other bookings. Our accommodation is located in a quiet area, in a cul de sac with a number of permanent residents. • Stay here and you won't regret! Alison and Rod are one of the most awesome Airbnb hosts I have seen. Their place is cosy and clean, and they have made us feel like home. They even offered us some local tips on where to get food and sightseeing places in Freycinet national park. Alison also went all out to phone the medical centre nearby to loan a wheelchair for my mum who has difficulty walking long distances. I have nothing to complain, but to express my greatest gratitude to both Alison and Rod for being so kind to my family and I.

Part of Bicheno Backpackers Hostel, our private guesthouse rooms with shared facilities are located separate from the main backpacker buildings, located right in the centre of town. You have a private room & share the kitchen & bathrooms with other guests. Room is exactly as pictured, bunk beds have linen supplied and you make them yourself. Please be sure to include all occupants on your booking. It is really quiet in winter & it is not unusual to have to whole place to yourself.
Our guesthouse has 6 bedrooms & 3 shared bathrooms. It has a spacious shared full kitchen and lounge. We have other room configurations also so please enquire.
Bicheno is a small town of about 650 permanent residents. In summer time the population grows enormously. In winter time, it is quiet but we enjoy mild weather conditions and clear sunny days. Bicheno's central location makes it the perfect base to explore the East Coast. Day trips to the north and south can be comfortably achieved, from Freycinet National Park to Bay of Fires & Pyengana including St Columba Falls. There are nice walking tracks around Bicheno itself as well as miles of white sandy beaches. There are a couple of tour options such as Penguin Tours, Devils in the Dark and Glass Bottom Boat. Several local restaurants, some specialising in local seafood and an abundance of wineries in the region. There is also the Douglas Apsley National Park which is 12km from the town centre. This is a Eucalypt forest with a pristine water hole just 5 minutes’ walk from the car park and longer walks into the gorge. Natureworld - featuring Tasmanian Devils is 7km north.

  • Dyranda’s place was very cosy! The crackling fire of the evening was a nice touch to the ambiance and really heated up the whole house. Good location with lots of secluded beaches to explore. The house was set on a lovely patch of property with plenty of fruit trees. Unfortunately these were not in season during our visit.

    Genevieve2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely charming historic cottage, great yard and great location - perfect for getting to Swansea, Cape Freycinet, and the local vineyards. Very recommended.

    Matthew2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Dyranda's place is a beautiful escape and an idyllic haven to relax in, whilst exploring the Freycinet area. The gardens are beautiful and on a sunny day, quite pleasant to relax in and enjoy a garden dinner. It's a short drive from Swansea where there are a few restaurants to choose from. Reading reviews prior to staying at the cottage, we were very conscious of mosquitos in the house and kept all doors/windows closed. It was unbelievable how many mosquitos there were in the evening and no idea how they were getting inside. It might be worth bringing repellent or fly spray. Swansea itself is a great base to explore Freycinet National Park with restaurants nearby. Bear-in-mind, Swansea restaurants all close at 8 pm and the grocery stores at 6-6:30 pm. Overall, a nice place to stay for a couple of nights on our Freycinet adventure.

    Michael2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at Keefer’s Cottage. Cosy period features with all the modern amenities and outdoor spaces to enjoy the sun. Excellent location - very private but only a few minutes to town. Beautiful orchards with many birds and bunnies.

  • The coziness and location was perfect! We would happily come and stay again. We recommend Keefers cottage to anyone staying in the Swansea area. We did boat tours from Coles Bay and Triabunna so the cottage was perfectly situated in between.

Our unit is fresh, simple, and a perfect spot to base yourself while exploring the Freycinet Peninsula & greater east coast region. A free standing unit next to main house on private property, 5 mins drive from the village of Coles Bay. Ideal for double or single accommodation. There is no view from the unit. It's a pleasant outlook & cosy deck, with a glimpse of the hazards; you're a short walk from a beach, but if you are looking for a hero shot from your balcony, we're not for you.
We are perfect for a single person getaway, or a quiet retreat for a couple. We share a driveway, yard and access ways, but there is adequate privacy between the 2 buildings so that we do not see each other unless we are both "out and about". Our water supply is solely rainwater, caught in private tanks. We are very grateful if you can be mindful of water consumption as we are in an extremely low rainfall area. We try to avoid buying water too often, not only for the cost, but because we love being able to enjoy, and offer, fresh tasting, untreated water.
  • Immediately feels homely. Lovely welcoming hosts and amazing space. Super clean, beautifully presented and perfect location. Would recommend.

  • Ros's place was very cosy and welcoming. It was like a whole little home not far from coles bay and wineglas bay. It was perfect to stay there, I recommend it warmly and a plus was the amazing view of the stars from the driveway in the night when we arrived !

  • We had an excellent stay, the place is very cosy and clean. Easy to check in, and communication prior to stay was easy and quick. Close to Freycinet NP, so a great place to explore from :)

  • Perfect location for easy access to national park and oyster farm. Place has everything you need for a comfortable stay! Loved it.

    Amelia2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Cooles Bay is a good starting point for the national park. The equipment of the kitchen and the accommodation is very good. We felt very comfortable here.

  • We had outstanding service from Ros. We had to leave in a hurry and left some of our favorite clothes behind, and Ros let us know. Although we had already gone home by that time, Ros is posting them back to us! What more could we ask!!

Small beach-side town with a beautiful natural environment and a welcoming community.
  • I stayed at Kate's recently as I had to work in Bicheno. Kate was so hopeful at addressing my concerns with last minute cancellations (due to uncertain times), contact with people, and assuring me it had been thoroughly cleaned (which it seemed to be!) since the last people stayed. It was a lovely space to stay in at the end of my working day. I got takeaway pizza from Pasinis as per her suggestion, and it was delicious. Thanks again Kate for making it a much less stressful stay than it could have been!

  • Kate and Marks Airbnb was a delight to stay in. Sparkling clean, amazing facilities and the shower was incredible. So quiet and relaxing, excellent location and communication was seamless. Highly recommend!

  • Kate’s house is very clean and tidy. Prepared some chocolate, milk, eggs and bread for us. It’s a nice place to stay. Recommend to all!

  • Thanks Kate for being so thoughtful and kind. 👍 Thank you for leaving the litre of milk, fresh eggs and yummy bread. My husband cooked us eggs on toast for our breakfast. The chocolates were a nice surprise too and we ate them with a cuppa after a long drive down to to Bicheno. 👍😊 Warm regards Dee Macsok

  • Our stay in Bicheno was beautiful. Kate and Mark's place is great and so close to everything. We did a penguin tour and had pizza at the local woodfired pizzaria. Great stay! Five stars.

  • Super clean, stylish guesthouse with everything you could need for a few days in Tassie!

    Kieks2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The studio was exactly as described. It was very clean and cosy and the bathroom had an extra large shower which was great. The location was in a very quiet neighbourhood and perfect to explore Freycinet NP. The kitchen had everything needed to prepare breakfast or a simple meal, the only thing missing was a small sharp knife. The eggs, bread and milk provided for breakfast were a much appreciated extra. Overall a great stay and we'd definitely book again!
