Great location situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Walks and cycling on the doorstep. Leisure facilities 1/2 mile away. Pub/ shops / restaurants 2 miles. Quarry Cottage is ideal for two adults ( no children ) visiting Northumberland and Durham. One small pet welcome. Please note....We also have the Barn next door, new for 2018. Property reference..... "Quarry Barn is a Luxury Barn Conversion" great views and super location. Both Cottage and Barn are just inside Northumberland.
Our cottage is detached from the main residence. One small well behaved dog welcome. Not suitable for infants only two adults. No WiFi through modem but 3g and 4g work well on your phone. The stairs are steep but manageable.
360 degree views overlooking beautiful country side.
  • This is a gorgeous, cosy cottage. Extremely comfortable and a perfect retreat.

  • Great place, really lovely settings and surroundings, super close to lots of things, but out of the way and private. Your closest neighbours are the Alpacas and they're beautiful!

    Peter2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is wonderful - gorgeously quaint and quirky with a beautiful and elegant mezzanine bedroom, cosy and comfy lounge area, well equipped, new kitchen and shower room. We had a delightful stay. The addition of wireless internet would make it perfect!

    Paul2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay in this beautiful cottage. Took the day to travel around Durham, and spent two nights at the cottage. Would definitely stay again.

    Alan2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is the first time staying here and we couldn’t of asked for anything better. Michael was very warm welcoming and gave plenty of information on where we could go to visit. The cottage itself was sparkling clean and the log burner was a brilliant extra. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Thank you for a brilliant weekend

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely hideaway in the countryside. The wood burner was fantastic after returning home from a walk in a blizzard! Very nicely furnished and a lovely cosy cottage feel about it. Top Tip: Take slippers. The floors can be cold on your feet in winter.

    Ben2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Michael was very welcoming, he provided us with lots of recommendations regarding where to walk / eat and drink. Cannot fault the cleanliness of the cottage. Perfect location just off of the A68 with plenty to do in the surrounding area. You won't be dissapointed.

    Joshua2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Just home from a two night stay with my friend. Despite the weather we’ve had a lovely couple of days in the cottage; the log burner and alpacas were a particular highlight for us! Hope to come back 😊

Augill Castle : much better than a hotel : unlike anywhere you have ever stayed before. In Cumbria's Eden Valley between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, England's two most popular national parks, Augill is set in it's own twenty acres of grounds. Easy going, relaxed but still ridiculously romantic and decadently comfortable. We'll do everything we can to make you feel as if you have arrived as guests, and will leave as friends.
The ORANGERY is on the ground floor outside the main castle, with huge arched gothic windows opening onto your own secluded garden and the castle gardens beyond. There is a modern open top four poster bed, stunning bronze wall and fabulous contemporary bathroom, and a connecting day room has a French style metal day bed which opens as two full sized singles. Requests can be made for a particular room but we reserve the ability to move you between these rooms to accommodate other guests.
Augill Castle sits in the geographical centre of the British Isles in the stunning countryside of the Eden Valley. Sitting at the foot of the Pennines and surrounded by the Lakeland Fells and Yorkshire Dales, the castle has 15 acres of wild gardens, lawns, paddocks and flower beds. It is the ultimate English gentleman's retreat. Built as a folly by an eccentric man, the castle is a fine essay in Victorian castle building.
  • Absolutely beautiful both inside and out! The staff was superb as was the food, accommodations, and experience!!! Without a doubt we would stay here again, next time for longer!!!

    Melissa2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • What a nice experience. Beautiful place. Love the grounds. Our bed was heavenly! Beautiful bedding and attention to detail with bathroom amenities. Great English castle experience!

  • An absolutely amazing stay in this fabulous old building. Great bed. Awesome breakfast to start the day. Thank you very much !😀

    Allan2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Just fantastic. Peaceful location, fantastic accommodation, friendly hosts, brilliant atmosphere. Great touches all over the house - and a very welcome attitude to 'explore' and discover. Hats, swords, pictures, blankets, games, a cinema (!) and loads more. Highly recommended!

    Tony2019-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, a real castle experience. Food was excelent and best part is everyone’s hospitability. Highly recommended!!

    Sergio2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • I’d like to recommend to anyone who is looking for castle-living. That is amazing stay and my kids love it very much. The little one can play at the toy room for a whole day. The castle is close to the Lake District. It is totally fine if you want to go and back at the same day. There is some miss understanding when we booked the room. Wendy give us two beds with a reasonable price, which is really nice. We will surely come and visit next time.

    Fan2019-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • It was an absolutely fantastic experience staying at Augill Castle and we will definitely come back. Everything was spot on and the food was excellent! The rooms and the exterior are even nicer than in the pictures. We highly recommend this accommodation.

    Patrick2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Augill Castle is truly special. The history of the place, the way Simon and Wendy have restored it, and the way they run it today were all exceptional. I loved the informal nature of our stay--it really feels like you're with family when you're at Augill. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone traveling to the Lake District. And the rooms (and linens!) are incredible to boot.

  • Really warm, cosy, clean and charming

    Ellen2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A very well made and insulated shepherds hut with a stylish interior. Even in Storm Dennis we felt warm & cosy. A lovely little get away in the countryside and andrew made us very welcome. He even let us feed the sheep and see his workshop where he builds his Shepherd Huts.

    Clare2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, small and compact but has everything you need. Great host and even let my boy hand feed the sheep. We stayed during the last storm, was still nice and warm. Defo recommend, and we’ll more than likely re visit.

    Samantha2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Little Blue Hut was a fantastic get away, Andrew was brilliant left us to have our own space but was there to help when we needed it. He let us check out later on the Sunday as he had no one else arriving and there was a bad storm which was really nice of him. The Hut is really well designed myself my partner and our dog Bodhi enjoyed every minute of our stay. Definitely recommend staying here.

    Joel2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place for a break away from it all. Beautiful location and still with everything you could need available at the property. Very thoughtful touches from Anita and Bruce that we really appreciated.

  • Great experience. Lovely personal touches of doggy treats being left out for our pooches. Easy check in and stress-free stay. Only 10 minutes drive into the lovely village of Stanhope!

  • If you want a quiet rural getaway, then this is the place. The surrounding areas make for some excellent walks if you wish to go off and explore. The accommodation was fantastic, quirky and clean. The bed was the most comfortable we've had whilst using an Airbnb and we couldn't hear a sound from the bedroom. Excellent value and we plan to return when the weather is better to some more exploring. Definitely 5 star

    Ronnie2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Butterfly Cottage is the perfect place for a few nights away, with some nice walks nearby and lovely views. The bed is the comfiest thing I’ve ever slept on, it was like lying on marshmallows, and Anita and Bruce were very nice and extra helpful - we used their local guidebook to decide what we were doing throughout the day. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

    Ben2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at Anita's and Bruce place for couple of nights. Unbelievably beautiful views and amazing cottage, most romantic place for couple I could ever imagine. My girlfriend was almost crying when we had to leave. Definitely coming back.

Try one of our comfy camping pods in N Yorkshire. The Small Pod is ideal for 2 people & in the grown ups only section of the site. Oh, and dog friendly too! Bring everything you would camping - apart from the tent! IMPORTANT NOTE: there are no beds in ANY of our pods. However, we hire out airbeds for £3 each.
Hillcrest Park is our 6 acre, holiday location in the northernmost of the Yorkshire Dales, Teesdale. Surrounded by farmland, it offers peace, tranquillity and beautiful views of Teesdale – yet is only 10mins from the A66. It is ideal for walkers, cyclists and dog owners and is close to Richmond, Barnard Castle, High Force Waterfall, Raby Castle and a host of other Dales attractions. Camping Pods are solidly built, insulated wooden huts with good headroom and a carpeted interior floor area, with lights, a heater and an electric socket to power mobile phones, laptops and travel devices for that little bit of extra comfort. There is timber decking providing somewhere to sun-bathe, prepare food or hang your wet gear. The window and lockable French doors are double glazed and the Cumbrian sheep's wool insulation and fitted heater means that the Pod really is a year-round option. We have a small shop onsite selling the basics and you will have full use of our centrally heated amenity block with free showers, loos, hairdryer, hot water for dishwashing, fridge, kettle, microwave and hob plus a coin operated laundry. There are picnic tables/benches provided for each pod as well as hardstanding for barbeques. If you don't want to cook outside for yourself, there is a good pub a mile and a half up the road in Caldwell (the Brownlow Arms) which serves food in the evenings. But if you fancy a good walking destination, you can wander down to Winston Gate (15mins walk away) and take the Teesdale Way along the river Tees. All in all, the Pod really is 21st Century Camping. So why not revisit those fun childhood holidays, but this time with grown-up comforts.
  • Had such a good night here. Kate couldn’t do enough for us as we had to go round to the office late evening as our air bed had a puncture, she came straight round and rented us some out. Because of the storm the weather was awful so they put us in a bigger pod than we had paid for as it was out of the wind. Amazing place to take your dog, very dog friendly. Will definitely return, probably in the summer though!

    Louise2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for first holiday with our dog. Although going in February the pod was warm and cosy. The facilities were good and although off season the little shop still had everything we’d needed. The location is obviously quite remote but everything is a short drive away. The Brownlow Arms pub nearby was a highlight of the trip and was close by for dinner which was lovely. We will probably stay again in the summer! Well recommended.

    Dale2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • This was so much better than I thought, Kate helped every step of the way! Turned up a little late and kate showed me where I was without any complaints! Thanks!!

    Joshua2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, quiet and picturesque location. The pod was clean and cosy and (most importantly!) dog friendly. Friendly and helpful hosts. We will definitely be returning!

  • You won’t be disappointed. It was more than expected. We have been doing camping caravan holidays for many years and we just wanted to a few days away, always fancied glamping so this was our first choice. We will definitely be going very soon.

  • Such a fabulous place to stay

    Louise2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cosy cottage, 4 of us and dog stayed, plenty of room for us all. There were thoughtful touches like a ready made fire and basket of items for our dog to use. Immaculately clean and everything needed was there for a self cater weekend. The host was super friendly and made check in nice and simple, which we like after a long drive. The Moss Inn just round the corner is a must, great staff and great atmosphere. The cottage is a good base to see lots of the local area which is stunning. We highly recommend and will definitely book again.

    Natalie2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • John was a wonderful host and walked us around the cottage, explaining how to use amenities. The log burner was well used and enjoyed. We cooked a Sunday lunch easily as the kitchen provided lots of utility. The beds were very comfortable. The area is surrounded by stunning countryside and lots to do. John provided love Christmas touches in the cottage which were lovely. We would highly recommend this cottage. Thanks John.

  • If you’re after a remote getaway with clean air, no light or sound pollution and endless wilderness walks then look no further. Communication from the start was polite and clear, no one was shy of a nice conversation. Beautifully designed and well finished with some lovely personal touches to add to that cosy feeling. Not to mention the underfloor heating! Thoroughly enjoyed my stay, you can really disconnect from the world at the glass house.

    Cory2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Glass House and were blown away by the beautiful location. Would definitely recommend it.

    Virginia2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Glass House is spectacular! It’s a cosy, beautiful space. The location is pretty epic and quite secluded. It is a little off the beaten track - that’s why we chose it. Some of the local roads in winter aren’t the best. We visited at the end of February in a small car, after three consecutive storms but we did find a route there that was easy enough. It’s well worth fully reading Julia’s directions to figure the best route for you to take. The underfloor heating keeps the place cosy even without the log burner. There are great local walks. Plenty of things to keep you busy in Allendale (1.5hr walk) and Hadrians Wall is just a short drive away. Julia is great, her farm is lovely - fully recommend and would happily visit again!

    Nick2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. First time away with our dog who also had a good time. Lots of good walks, short car journey to Allendale where pubs serve good food and even better pints.

    Lewis2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely funky little place, beautiful scenery, was a shame we had rain! There are chickens roaming about outside of the house and sheep in the fields nearby. Julia and her husband were so friendly and welcoming and have local recommendations. The place is very cosy with a huge log fire, we had a lovely time ☺️

    Rebecca2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Glass House is a stunning space I a stunning landscape. Perfect escape to the country with our black lab who loved the countless walks from the front door. Highly recommend and hope to be back one day!

    Laura2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We went away for a couple of nights and it was great. A cute little barn with everything we needed. And very very cosy. Enjoyed the fact that there was no WiFi and poor signal, made us appreciate the time together more and the lush views rather than being distracted. Very muddy in the wet as you'd expect but didn't let it put us off. Some lovely walks to be had.

    Aaron2020-02-01T00:00:00Z

You’ll love my place because of the location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids). 20 mins walking distance to the city centre and 10 mins walk to the nearest metro station. My place is a 5 minute walk to the hospital and has free on and off road parking. The back garden is a great place for drinks in the sunshine and I even have a bar in it just waiting to be used!
Close to all public transport links and the city centre. Please note the house is for sale so I may require access for viewings during your stay but these would be pre arranged with yourselves ideally when you are not at the property and if not convenient will rearrange for after your stay
Very close to the city centre and university campus in Chester road as well as the hospital. The metro train station is a close walk for access to Newcastle and the airport.

  • Katrinas place is outstanding. It has a very comprehensive range of kitchen utensils/plates/glassware etc and the cooking facilities were excellent. Rooms are immaculately clean. They are also spacious and comfortable. I really can't think of anything that was less than a high standard and I will certainly be adding this to my list of "stay agains" In addition, Katrina is the perfect host. Excellent communication. Very helpful. definitely 5 stars.

    Anthony2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Katrina’s cottage was everything I hoped it would be. It had the look of an old farm house but the amenities of modern day. I loved getting to see all of the cows and sheep in the pasture. Very relaxing place and not too far from civilization. Would definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone that wants some quiet time in the country. Was a little sad that the hot tub died before my stay, but Katrina made up for it by reducing the rate and providing a great place to stay with some nice little touches.

    Joanne2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Katrina's cottage. We stayed with our 2 daughters and they loved it. They were fascinated with the working farm around the cottage, watching the cows and sheep being moved from field to field kept them amused. This was our second time staying and we would stay again in a heartbeat, very clean and homely. Katrina is a great host who goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and adds little surprise home comforts to make your stay even better. Would highly recommend.

    Erin2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is an excellent cottage, sparkling clean, has everything you need. The views from the garden are splendid and the flock of sheep kept us entertained for hours. Katrina has supplied some lovely supplies and the cottage is very comfortable and cosy. Katrina and the family are very welcoming. Would highly recommend this cottage.

    Ann2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place for families! We traveled there with our two little girls ages 4 and 2. She set up the cottage with baby gates, toys, a pack n play and more. Our kids loved being able to see the sheep and cows. The views are stunning. It’s a great location to see the English countryside and we were able to drive to several castles from this location. I would highly recommend this place!!! Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

The Shepherd's Hut is a really unique place to stay and a fantastic experience. It's clean, beautifully decorated and well kitted out. It's surroundings of a private patio and pond are idyllic - Grant (August '18) Hut in the Hollow provided a sweet little slice of tranquility, among the wildlife. High quality and comfortable in the hut. The patio/garden area with the pond is great for eating out on at breakfast and sitting looking at the stars at night. Very impressed - Kerry (August '18)
#HutintheHollow has all mod cons. You have a extra long super comfy double bed in a self contained bedroom/lounge/kitchen. You have a wood burning stove and logs for those chilly nights. We will set the fire for you should you wish to use it. Extra logs are available free of charge. There is also a portable radiator to take the chill off. There is a comfy chair and a cracket stool and a fold up table for eating. Whilst it is a Shepherd's Hut there are plenty of electric points and wi fi. The Shepherd and his flock would be well impressed #HutLife There is a separate bathroom with flushing toilet, sink and full shower. There is a beautiful secluded garden and pond. The garden is a great little sun trap.
15 minute walk into the historical City of Durham. You can do this through North End and down Western Hill or through the beautiful Flass Vale a stunning wooded area in the centre of Durham City. It is 20 minutes on your return and it’s quite hilly. You are a 7 minute walk to the nearest Sainsbury's.
  • The hut really is a peaceful escape with all the advantages of the city and beaches near. We took advantage of both, we bought our dog with us and she tucked perfectly under the bed! Durham city was really dog friendly. The facilities and special touches that Richard had added to the hut were just gorgeous, it is warm, cute and homely. Thank you Richard.

  • A lovely charming little hut. We didn't miss a thing, and had a great time. Very recommended.

  • The Hut in the Hollow is a very beautiful place to stay, it is full of character and cosy but has everything you need-we even had milk left for us and some snacks were provided. Richard is a fantastic host who responds very quickly to messages and my partner and I would be very happy to stay again.

    Isobel2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • It’s not surprising to see so many good reviews for the hut. It is a fantastic place, decorated so stylishly and thoughtfully. Location wise was excellent, we had no bother walking in and out of the city centre. Icing on the cake was the flawless communication. Cannot recommend highly enough!

  • We had a good stay at Hamraz’s place. There’s plenty of parking space, check in is easy with the lock box. The property was extremely clean, one of the cleanest air bnb’s I’ve ever stayed in! We did not use the hot tub during our stay. The only negatives would be there are no blinds in the living area and the mattresses were not the most comfortable. However that being said this is still a great place to stay and we would definitely come back!

My place is in beautiful Weardale, County Durham, close to The River Wear, the Weardale Way, walks, hill climbs. You’ll love my place because of the cosiness, the views, the location, the open fire..
7 Front Street is a traditional stonebuilt Weardale cottage, one of a small row of cottages in the hamlet of Daddry Shield near Stanhope in the Durham Dales. The cottage comfortably sleeps 4 and affords peaceful rural holidays to couples and small families. The cottage is pet and child friendly and is warm and welcoming with a sitting room with open fire and a kitchen with dining area to the ground floor and a family bathroom with two bedrooms to the first floor: a master bedroom with double bed and a second bedroom with two singles.
The cottage has outstanding views of Weardale, 'The Undiscovered Dale', from every window and is just a short walk from the river Wear and the Weardale Way. The cottage is equipped with all standard modern conveniences including microwave, fan assisted oven, washer dryer, TV with integral DVD and Freeview, Now TV and WIFI and a selection of board games. The cottage is just a short walk from the Weardale villages of St Johns Chapel and Westgate, both of which can offer pubs, shops, a cafe and children's play areas as well as numerous footpaths for ramblers and hillwalkers. Further afield are the historic country towns of Bishop Aukland, Barnard Castle, Hexham and Durham itself.
  • This is a great little terrace house in a wonderful location to get away from it all. Beautiful countryside, plenty of places to go for walks and close to some beautiful historic towns and cities. Sarah was a great host, with quick responses and some great local eating suggestions. Want to go back soon.

    Chris2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stay at Sarah’s place quite often to visit family and we love how cosy it is. It’s got everything we need.

    Jojo2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a wonderful time at this cottage. Everything was just perfect. The host lady had left a bottle of wine for us, which made feel back home. It was great fun feeding the horse with apples through the kitchen window. We can deeply recommend this cottage to anybody who likest the peace and quiet of an old cottage within a breathtaking landscape.

    Stephan2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is an absolute gem of a cottage. It was super clean and cosy, very quiet and relaxing and in the perfect location for exploring the area; we absolutely loved it.

    Sean2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • A very comfortable place where you can cook like at home, with extra plaids on armchairs and bed to feel cosy.

    Claude2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah's cottage was a wonderful and cosy retreat. Our visit was in July so we couldn't justify lighting the open fire, but if we had, we might have struggled to leave! Sarah left us a lovely bottle of wine and our stay was just perfect in every way. We loved the horses visiting us at the back window and watching the sheep from the front! Viewing the rolling hills from the lounge window made watching the TV a second choice! A lovely stay, thank you so much Sarah!

    Amanda2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • We spent the week at Sarah's place and had a great time. It's a lovely house in a fabulous location with plenty of walks along the river and hills surrounding the house or you can take a short drive to visit other attractions such as Low Force, High Force and Cauldrons Snout to name just a few. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Our house, Whispering Waters, contains a private, contemporary two-room apartment suite, with its own private access via an exclusive south-facing deck, 21 mtrs above the tree-lined River Tees. Lying in bed, it's as if you’re in a treehouse with the treetops visible outside the window. Situated in Lower Teesdale (on the A67, between Barnard Castle and Darlington - around 7 miles/11km from each), Whispering Waters is a house without neighbours, immediately adjacent to, and above the River Tees.
The suite comprises a double bedroom with king-sized double bed, a modern shower room, and a living room. The latter has tea and coffee making facilities, a small fridge containing fresh milk, water, juice, and light continental-style breakfast (please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements). The lounge area can be provided with a foldout single bed. If you need that, let us know and we'll see what we can arrange. There is a TV and free WIFI.
The village of Gainford is a five minute walk away with a general shop, a butcher, post office, hairdressers, cafe, fish and chip shop and a pub. There's also a pretty village green and other beautiful walks along the river. There are a number of quality restaurants less than ten minutes drive, including the only 2* Michelin restaurant in the North East, The Raby Hunt. Other local attractions (all within a fifteen minute drive) include the independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants in the Teesdale town of Barnard Castle, which also houses the amazing Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle (a full-sized French chateau in a medieval English market town). The remarkable Raby Castle is also close by. Darlington town centre (with its main-line railway station) is a twenty minute drive away, as is the North Yorkshire market town of Richmond. Ten minutes beyond Barnard Castle, into upper Teesdale, you enter an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and what is known as England's Last Wilderness, which includes one of Britain’s highest waterfalls, High Force. There are wonderful walks all over Teesdale, with some spectacular views.
  • I would highly recommend this stay as bill and the surrounding area are amazing and definitely worth the low price they carge.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Bill's place. The location was perfect for what we planned to do, from taking trips into Barnard Castle, up to High Force and exploring the local area. The place was easy to find, just a short distance from a friendly village, with even nicer fish and chips. We found the communication to be good in the lead up to our stay, so we knew exactly what to do on our arrival. The privacy was good, and there were lots of nice touches throughout the rooms. We would really recommend Bill's place!

  • Jimmy and Anita’s farm was a great Airbnb find. Spacious accommodation, warm and spotlessly clean. Very well equipped with some provisions left for us . A real home from home. Wish we had time to say longer.

    Joan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house is not far from the roadside and it is easy to find. Except for the smell of the decoration, the owner was very attentive. The picture books and toys for children are very good. The beds were enough and comfortable. The house is very spacious and the view outside is also very beautiful. I hope to have the opportunity to go back for the weekend in the future.

  • A lovely snug property. I visited alone but it is a tardis of a property so will easily cater for a family. Some lovely touches, good communication and a personal visit to check all ok. Great hosts

  • Great location on a farm near Crook in County Durham. Absolutely quiet and very dark at night. On my two nights, the starry sky was stunning. The house is among a group of others on a working farm. It's also off the main road, so very peaceful. I found it a great place to escape from London for couple of days and to explore the surrounding countryside. Check in was easy, WiFi was fast and reliable. Parking adjacent to the house was safe and secure. Nice to have an oven and hobs to cook, a decent large fridge freezer and microwave - perfect for making your own meals. Lots of local info in leaflets in the house too.

    Adam2020-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • Anna’s flat is spotlessly clean and is very well equipped, both in the kitchen and for entertainment. If the rain ruins your stay you have the choice of Sky, DVDs or board games to keep you occupied. Anna was at home when we arrived and let us in to the flat and was available if we had problems, which we didn’t. The bedroom is light and airy and the bed is extremely comfortable. The shower in the bathroom was powerful. If you are looking for accommodation in Darlington, look no further than here. Absolutely wonderful.

  • We had a fantastic stay at Neils place, the pods are spacious yet cosy at the same time and provide a perfect getaway with amazing views of the countryside. Neil was a great host, very friendly and helpful. Thanks very much!!

    Samantha2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cabin with a wonderful view. We had the most relaxing stay, the pod was sparkling clean and beautifully designed, the log burner was cosy and the decking and hot tub is lovely and private. Our host Sue even got in touch to say we could stay longer than the usual check out to shelter from the miserable weather! We will definitely book again.

    Tasmin2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Just had three amazing nights in the countryman... it did not disappoint! Fantastic views, perfectly private hot tub and deck area. The pods are beautifully furnished with homely touches. Brilliant location for exploring the local areas such as Kielder park and hadrians wall!! We will definitely visit again

    Linda2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location and accommodation with friendly hosts. Loved getting out the city and into the middle of the country and the hot tub was a great wee bonus even in the middle of a storm! Hosts were so accommodating of our toddler and dog, providing a cot and high chair and making us all feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend!

  • Lovely pod. Will be back!

    Hannah2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This was truly one of our most memorable and amazing weekend breaks, one that won't be forgotten. Neil, thank you so so much for the hospitality you was amazing. We will definitely be back again soon. Can't speak highly enough about the experience. We will definitely be recommending you to others. Only thing I would say is the pictures you have online for the pods and the surrounding area do not do it justice at all. The pods are stunning, brilliantly designed and built and the perfect size. You truly feel like you're the only people there. And even though all the pods were occupied we didn't hear or see anyone else. Secluded and truly beautiful. Can't wait to come back

  • Quarry Barn is a lovely getaway in the perfect location! Michael & June were very responsive to messages and Michael greeted us upon arrival with some great tips and dog friendly recommendations for the local area! The Derwent Manor Hotel was within walking distance (great for a few drinks) and Derwent Reservoir was just 10 mins in the car. The barn was spotlessly clean and decorated throughout to a high standard. We hope to stay again in future!

  • Lovely cottage which is dog friendly and very cozy. There was milk in the fridge on arrival and a doggie pack with towels and bowls etc. The log burner is a nice feature and the location is good for exploring the local area. There are no shops in the village but if you drive a mile or so up the road to Tow Law you can stock up on the essentials. We didn’t meet the hosts but communication with John was very good.

  • My partner and I stayed at John's cottage for a short break in County Durham. The cottage is wonderfully cosy and was an ideal spot to relax after a day of exploring the area. We particularly enjoyed the log burner! Would definitely recommend.

  • A genuine welcome by John, with a fire lit in the woodburner - great on a cold frosty day. A spotlessly clean cottage, with walks from the door or ideal for visiting Durham. Food in the pub is great value and quality - and just across the street. Wish we could have stayed longer.

The Regent's Chambers is a marvellous and comfortable place to stay, with super king beds, Netflix & Amazon Video, board games, self check-in and breakfast ingredients (except for milk!). There's a garden for relaxing in during nice weather (it happens!) and a real home-from-home feeling. There's free parking just outside the flat and it's a five minute walk into town (explore the castle and new gallery spaces), ten min to the station and ten min to Kynren. Durham is just a half hour away.
The kitchen is country style, with oak worktop and cream cabinets. It's fully stocked with basic necessities (tea selection, real coffee, olive oil, salt, pepper, spices and herbs). There is also bread, spreads and cereals on offer (though you need to bring milk). The bathroom has a separate shower and bath. Don't worry if you forget your shampoo, conditioner or shower gel as it's all provided for you. There are two big bedrooms with super king size beds and pillowtop mattresses, very soft 400 thread count sheets and feather pillows. The living room has a 49" Smart TV with freeview. You can watch Super HD Netflix, Amazon Video and BBC iPlayer too - the flat has its own Netflix and Amazon accounts so no need for a subscription. There's a large double sofabed (14cm full double memory foam mattress) and a single daybed (3000 pocket pillowtop mattress). Both beds are super comfy and have lots of pillows and cushions for maximum cosiness. There are double curtains in the bedrooms and living room, which all look out onto the street - the voile is to ensure privacy (but still lets in the light) plus lined blackout curtains on top. The flat is on the ground floor so it's more accessible for people with limited mobility, but note there are three shallow steps up to the front door so it's not suitable for wheelchairs. Parking is easy - there's lots available on Etherley Lane and though there are single yellow lines around the corners there are no other restrictions (except don't park in front of other people's houses as it annoys the neighbours!). It's best to park just outside the side gate on Etherley Lane, where you first check in. During Kynren days there is parking enforcement on the street but parking permits are provided in the flat for you to use. You can use smart check in to get into the flat with a code I give you at booking, so you can arrive whenever is convenient, even in the small hours of the morning. Have a lovely stay!
Known as the gateway to Weardale, Bishop Auckland is a bustling market town in the Vale of Durham, standing high above a meander in the River Wear with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Walk fifteen minutes from the flat straight into the beautiful grounds of the magnificent Auckland Castle, the country residence of the Prince Bishops for more than 900 years. And don't miss the annual Bishop Auckland Food Festival which takes place in the castle grounds every April. It's AMAZING. Surrounding the Castle are the 800 acres of the Bishop's Deer Park - a great place for a summer picnic or an autumnal stroll through vividly coloured parkland. It's open all year round and is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The town is set for major developments over the next few years, with a new welcome building at Auckland Castle, a new Museum extension, an institute of Spanish art and culture, and the redevelopment of the 17th Century Walled Garden which will feature stunning new glasshouses providing 'garden rooms' restaurant and event spaces. The town burst into life in 2016 as Eleven Arches presented the first season of ‘Kynren – an epic tale of England’ - the £31 million open-air live action night show that attracted more than 100,000 visitors during the summer. Kynren returns in 2017 to take audiences on an epic storytelling journey through 2,000 years. Bishop Auckland's historic town centre has a thriving arts and cultural offering, with the Bishop Auckland Town Hall home to a superb library, cinema, theatre and arts complex. Plus, the town has more than 200 shops - head for Bondgate for boutiques and specialist shops that you won’t find on the high street. A mile from the town are the remains of Binchester Roman Fort, home to the best preserved Roman military bath house in Britain. And at Escomb, you can see one of the finest examples of early Christian architecture in Northern Europe at the restored 7th Century Escomb Saxon Church. It's one of the first churches in the whole of the UK, so not really one to miss. Don't forget also the National Shildon Railway Museum for train enthusiasts. Shildon was pretty much the birthplace of railways so do please go and check out an engine or two. Bishop Auckland is very well placed for trips to lots of local castles, the North Pennines and day trips to Durham (half hour drive).
  • Good location near town centre. Great comfortable space. Comfy beds.

  • I only stayed at Emma’s for one night, in preparation for an Exam I had in Bishop Auckland. It was the perfect place to stay to relax and get myself ready. I can see that this apartment would be great for larger groups too, including families, looking to get away and have some quality time.

    Lydia2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Regent's Chambers was a lovely flat and had all the amenities we needed. Emma was a fantastic host with great communication and a very handy check in video! The flat is about a 5min walk from the main high street and there's two big supermarkets a few minutes further. The town was lovely though it was just a shame we couldn't get out and about much because of the storm. If you're eating in Bishop Auckland I definitely recommend Beedles Chippy and Panda Panda. We managed to make a quick stop (40mins away) in the North Pennines on our drive back home. If you only have a little bit of time, I highly recommend the High Force falls. It was absolutely stunning and feels like you've been transported to somewhere in North America! I wish we could have spent a lot longer there!

  • A great place to stay if you’re in the area. All we needed and more. Will definitely stay here again next time we visit.

  • Lovely accommodation plenty of space for a large family. Very comfortable beds.

  • We stayed for an evening for a work trip, it was in an ideal location for us. It is quite a big space and could have definitely stayed for more than one day. Garden is secure if you have a dog, cannot hear much noise from the flat above. Nice little touches like cereals, butter, bread which you dont get from many air b and b's. Thanks Emma

Beautifully located, Rose Cottage is a cosy Dales cottage & 274 yrs old! With a large working fireplace & beams, it provides a comfortable family home & could easily accommodate 2 families or a group of friends. It is ideal for guests with children & dogs. Set on the river Tees, Cotherstone was voted one of the top 10 English villages. Only 4 miles to Barnard Castle & 2 miles to Lartington Hall, a popular wedding venue. It is close to the Lakes & ideal for breaking a trip to & from Scotland.
My cottage is quirky and decorated with vintage finds and local art. There is a family kitchen, fully equipped with both modern and vintage kitchenalia. It has a huge stone sink which is over 100 years old! There is a range cooker and a large fridge freezer. On your arrival there will be juice, milk and fresh bread/ bakes. There is tea and coffee, sugar and basics for cooking such as oil, salt, pepper & spices-all fresh and usually kindly donated by previous quests! There is a small table and a few chairs, ideal for breakfast. A large pine dresser is filled with glasses, plates, cups and saucers, cake plates and vintage china. There are plastic cups for children, pots, pans and baking trays and lots of salad / serving bowls. It's a good sized kitchen for a cottage and great for socialising! The dining room has a table which seats 8 and a large bookcase with a good selection of local books and maps & games, There is an open fireplace filled with logs and a gas cast iron stove. With beamed ceilings and a big open fire, the living room has comfortable sofas and arm chairs. There is a CD player and lead to attach your phone to for your own choice of music. In the old school cupboard there are 100's of DVDs ( the TV has an integral DVD player). There is a wonderful large open fire. We always set the fire ready to light and leave logs, coal and matches. The fire is cosy and guests always enjoy the ambiance it creates. There is a downstairs loo and laundry /boot room. Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms. Each bed has a good mattress, doubles are memory foam. Beds are made up with fresh linen and clean throws and good duvets. We supply towels. Each bedroom is furnished with care, with vintage rugs and furniture. There is a large family bathroom with both a bath and shower. Outside there is a small garden and patio area. There is a BBQ, deck chairs and jali table for good weather. During the summer months there will be fresh herbs in the garden. The garden leads to a beautiful river- great for walking and there is a football pitch. It is child and dog friendly. There is a travel cot and a high chair and baby seat for a chair. There are dog bowls for dog guests. There is an extra Z bed for an extra single guest and a sofa bed, also for a single guest so I could accomodate 9/10 guests if for example children shared rooms and used the Z beds.
The location is beautiful and Cotherstone is a pretty and quiet village just 4 miles away from Barnard Castle. There is an excellent pub opposite the cottage which serves good fresh food and reals ales. You may want to book in advance so check out the Fox and Hounds, Cotherstone link online. There is a small local shop, well stocked with basics and a post office inside. They sell the local Cotherstone cheese and a good selection of breads & bakes. The Red Lion pub is in the middle of the village. It is a traditional Dales Pub and serves good ale. The pub was in the 90's comedy 'The Fast Show'. Ted and his boss, the Toff used to drink there in the famous 'Ted' sketch. It's worth a visit for a pint. There is a good playground for children with some great equipment and cycle track. It is at the far end of the village near the church. There are walks from Cotherstone to Romaldkirk and Barnard Castle. The nearby High Force, the biggest waterfall in England and Low Force waterfalls are well worth a visit at anytime of the year. The area is a brilliant place and base from which to explore the Yorkshire Dales or the Lakes. If you are travelling from or to Scotland it is an ideal place to stop off and break the journey for a day or two. Teesdale is a wonderful working Dale, unspoilt & outstanding countryside with waterfalls and moorland. It is fabulous for walkers, and a magical place for children and guests with dogs. Cotherstone really is a perfect place to holiday with dogs- I have 4 and they love their walks in Teesdale. We are very close to popular weddings such as Lartington Hall, The Morritt Arms and Headlam Hall Spa and Jersey Farm. If you are visiting from a city, coming to Cotherstone and Teesdale might be like stepping back in time. The location is beautiful and the pace slow. It's a different lifestyle. My guests who book the cottage for just one or two nights usually wish they had stayed longer or plan to return in reviews. I am sure you will like Cotherstone and will be impressed with the countryside & the people :)
  • Had a family stay for my Mums 60th. The cottage and surrounding scenery was beautiful. Some lovely nice touches from the host for my Mums birthday including fresh flowers, bunting and a home made cake. Would definitely recommend for a nice relaxing break.

  • Andrea's place was quaint, comfortable and cosy. We loved our stay. It's in the perfect location to explore the many walks nearby and then snuggle around the open fire in the evening, before retiring to one of the very comfy beds. Andrea had left us a delicious cake, baked bread and coffee which was a really lovely welcome. We would really recommend staying here!

    Ruth2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay for one night at Andrea's Rose Cottage, and it had everything we needed. It has the characteristic charm of an old style cottage, its very spacious and comfortable, had everything we needed from cooking utensils to blankets, towels and a roaring fire (and a few extra delights left by Andrea), and was in a lovely quiet location. Andrea provided all the information we needed and check in and parking was super simple- she even was kind enough to let us check in a couple of hours early. No negatives at all, really pleased with our choice and I would definitely recommend the cottage! Thanks Andrea!

  • This is our third stay at David and Lynn’s home. Their home is a perfect family getaway. With all the basic comforts and more, it’s ideal for a holiday. Easy access to public transport makes for a trouble free holiday. There’s plenty to do in town: walks by the river, castle and museum visits. Stanley Jefferson is a nice place for a meal with children ( kids are allowed until 21:00 hrs). Gregory’s and Chittocks were two nice local groceries. The coffee shop at the railway station has good breakfast.

  • Gutted that we only stayed here for one night whilst on the way to Scotland. A lovely place in a unique setting that we would go back to so that can we can explore more of the area. Loved all of the little touches throughout and was more than suitable for our 1 and a 1/2 year old. Thank you and hopefully will be back again one day!

The friendliness of the people, and the stunning, long-ranging views.
  • Fantastic site. Very quiet and rural. Communal kitchen area was very handy as it was a tad windy this weekend so it made the morning brew a lot easier. The recomadtion to see the highforce waterfall and food at the brownlow Arms was spot on 👌 And it was nice to be able to take the dog out with us all day. Would definitely recommend this site and large camping pods were plenty of room for two of us anf the dog.

    Kelley2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The pods are a great little place to stay. It was a very short trip for me but I'll be back again to stay. Great amenities with the pod

    Reema2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in one of the pods which for a family of three and a small dog was very spacious. Kate was very helpful on our arrival and showed us round before we got unpacked which included the pod and the kitchen area. The showers and toilets were spotless. There is also a little book and dvd library as well as some board games which we took advantage of and tons of info on local attractions. We also enjoyed a breakfast from Dotties which was delicious. Overall we were looking for a family friendly site and we found it at Hillcrest. We will return and look forward to another stay.

The Chapel on the Hill is a boutique conversion of a Methodist Chapel close to Middleton-in-Teesdale. It occupies a stunning position with beautiful views across Upper Teesdale close to the Pennine Way and the famous High Force Waterfall.
This holiday cottage consists of a large and fully equipped kitchen, a spacious and cosy living room, four comfortable bedrooms and three modern bathrooms and is available for short stays (minimum of 3 nights) and weekly bookings. For short stays, check-in is from 2 pm and check out by 11 am. For weekly bookings, changeover day is Saturday with check-in from 4 pm and check-out by 11 am. The Chapel accommodates up to 7 people. On the ground floor you will find: - A spacious and beautifully designed living room with a wood burning stove for cosy evenings - A large and fully equipped kitchen with a stunning dining area - A spacious bedroom with a day bed (extendable to double), which suits either a single guest or a couple - A luxuriously designed bathroom with a roll top bath and shower On the first floor you will find: - Two comfortable and elegantly decorated master bedrooms with separate en-suits - A single bedroom (more suitable for children)
The Chapel on the Hill occupies a stunning position with beautiful views across Upper Teesdale, a declared Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The property is located in an isolated position and is accessed by a cul-de-sac that also leads to a nearby farmhouse. The Chapel is ideally located for exploring the beautiful Teesdale valley, with it’s abundance of amazing walks like the Pennine Way or natural landmarks, such as the High Force Waterfall, which can be reached within 20 minutes walking. In terms of climate, Teesdale is as remote, rugged and windswept as you can get in England. Middleton-in-Teesdale’s climate is classified as warm and temperate, yet it has a significant amount of rainfall during the year. This is true even for the driest months of March and April.
  • Everything about our stay was remarkable. Anna's Church on a Hill is absolutely stunning,. Great attention to detail and proactive service and attention. The location is secluded and breathtaking. We loved being in the cozy restored church and taking small drives into town and to explore the beautiful landscapes. If you are heading further into the lake district I recommend traveling Northwest to Alston, then down to Penrith as the views are unimaginable.

    Scott2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great social space to spend New Years Eve with friends and family. The beds were super comfy and there are some picturesque walks very close to the Chapel - low force was a particular highlight. The selection of board games to suit all ages was a bonus too.

    Katy2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at the Chapel on the Hill over Christmas for 5 nights and enjoyed every single minute there. All the rooms were well equipped and stylishly decorated, no stone had been unturned when this chapel was renovated. The designer and architect obviously took their time on the Chapel, WOW it’s an amazing place to stay. Then you have the spectacular views from all the windows, and your bedroom. We left our bedroom blind up so we could look at the stars at night (unfortunately all nights were overcast) we had the best neighbours ever (Sheep) perfect. The little village of Middleton-in-Teesdale was quaint and Bernard Castle had all the shops you needed. We would definitely come back, again and again. Thank you Anna for being so prompt with our questions.

  • The Chapel on the Hill is fantastic! We had a great time celebrating a birthday here and I would definitely recommend booking it for a trip. The place is clean, comfy and finished to a very high standard. It’s located in a great area for fresh air and walking. Anna was also very helpful and we can’t thank her enough for a great trip!

    Indee2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Chapel is an outstandingly beautiful place to escape to. Not only is the whole place decorated with style and flair, but the 360 views around the North Pennines are simply stunning. We had a fantastic stay with a 10 month old and a very excited 3.5 year old. It is our favourite AirBnB destination we have been to so far and we will definitely be back again next time we need to get away from the madness of city life.

    David2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • For peace, tranquility and spectacular rural beauty, you will never find a better place then the Chapel on the Hill. I cannot begin to describe the absolute “perfectness” of this one-time Methodist Chapel. Not only is the Chapel the perfect place to relax and unwind, it is also within easy driving distance of quaint English villages with surprisingly good restaurants and amazing natural beauty. This is one of the most wonderful places we have ever visited. It is spotlessly clean and wonderfully appointed. I cannot thank Anna enough.

Set in a conservation area of Bishop Auckland, this spacious and welcoming flat is in a great location for visits to Auckland Castle, exploring the Pennines and visits to Durham. Kynren is also a short walk away. After a great day out come back to the gorgeous, light-filled rooms, cosy fireplace, comfortable sofas, speedy internet, super king size beds and spa bath. Couples, individuals, business travellers and families with kids (any age) are all very welcome.
The flat has two large bedrooms with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space for your belongings. The super king size beds (6ft wide), one with 2000 Pocket Spring Memory Foam Mattress and the other with 3000 Pocket Pillow Top Spring Mattress will give you a restful night's sleep. In the sizable living room, the comfy full double sofa bed with memory foam mattress is accompanied by the chaise longue, cosy armchair and mahogany dresser and corner cabinet. The 49" 4K smart TV is in the corner, connected to the fastest internet available in the area (up to 74Mb) and a TalkTalk TV Box allowing you to pause and rewind 80 freeview channels. You can watch Super HD Netflix, Amazon Video and BBC iPlayer too - the flat comes with its own Netflix and Amazon accounts so no need for a subscription. The sofa bed is a full double memory foam fold-out version, so no uncomfortable crease down the middle that you get with clic-clac beds. There is plenty of storage for your clothes and belongings in the dresser, allowing you to properly unpack as you wish. In addition to the usual central heating (new radiators installed throughout), there is the very cosy gas fire in the living room, which is easy to operate and comes with children's safe guard for those of you with little ones coming to visit. The heating is easily controlled throughout the flat with a Nest thermostat - which also means the apartment will be nice and warm ready for your arrival. If you prefer more tropical temperatures there are also three electric heaters in both the bedrooms and living room. The dining kitchen is well stocked, both with essentials and with good cooking equipment. There are pots and pans of course, but there's also a slow cooker, steamer, weighing scale and juicer. When you arrive you will find real coffee for the cafetiere and a selection of teas. Herbs and oil are also included. The kitchen has a slimline dishwasher and washing machine too, which will help a lot for those intending to stay longer than a couple of days. There is bread in the freezer, plus a selection of spreads and cereals. The fridge has a water dispenser, butter and a bottle of prosecco! (You will need to bring your own milk, though). The bathroom has a corner bath with whirlpool jets. There is a standing shower (in the bath) so the bathroom is great for a quick shower before work or for long, luxurious bathing! There is a backyard too for some outdoor, private space away from the street. This is shared with the flat below, which is also airbnb. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions :)
  • Lovely place to stay, absolutely huge flat and completely private. Easy to find - well worth a visit!

  • As so many previous reviewers have said, this is a huge flat which manages to be super toasty. It's a short walk into the town centre which is well served with shops, cafes. takeaways etc as well as some new cultural attractions. We didn't have a bad meal in Bishop Auckland, and would give a special mention to the cafe at the castle: you have to have a ticket for the castle to enter, however the Auckland pass is valid from purchase until the end of 2020, and we'll most certainly be trying to arrange a return visit. Fifteas in the town centre was also a big hit with our children who really enjoyed their 'afternoon tea'. In the flat we loved the electronic lock and nest heating controls: we didn't use the cooking facilities much as there's too many great local eateries to try, but everything was clean and it was a great budget friendly place to stay.

Millstream Lodge is a modern, classic cottage set in a picturesque village setting with all the amenities within easy reach.
  • Great location in the village. Excellent facilities. Very clean and comfortable.

  • The cottage was absolutely perfect, ideal for a long weekend. Have fond memories of living in Wolsingham as a young child, loved being able to visit again. Would recommend the Italian as well as both pubs in the village. Very likely to return in future.

  • Cosy little place - clean, comfortable, warm and quiet. Good value for money. Just be aware, you need to be reasonably agile to negotiate the spiral staircase.

  • First time using airbnb and very happy with Millstream lodge, quiet, spotlessly clean and had everything you needed for a short stay. A great base for exploring Co. Durham Off street parking a bonus plus at the end of the lane was a great Italian restaurant which we used both nights.

  • Quiet location off the main road but close to the shop and Italian Restaurant. The flat was self contained, on two levels and had everything you needed. It looked new and bright and clean.

  • This is a delightful apartment. Quiet and peaceful and equipped with all the amenities you need. The internal staircase is quite steep but charming nevertheless.

  • We had an excellent stay in Millstream Lodge. It's location is excellent in the centre of Wolsingham close to pubs, shops cafes and restaurants. The beautiful Hamsterley Forest is nearby where we spent a day cycling. There are lots of other attractions in the area. The lodge was very well appointed and the decor is modern and stylish, but still has a country feel to it. The kitchen was well equipped to cook, and had an added bonus of a dishwasher which we weren't expecting. Janette was a great welcoming host. We will certainly be staying here again.

  • Really nice stay for a couple of nights and the property had everything we could need. It is located in a beautiful area. We did a stunning local 4-mile walk from one of the leaflets left in the property for local events/days out. We also dined at the local Italian restaurant which was great value for money (we went to the happy hour) and just a couple of minutes walk away from the property. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we were back in the area.
