Places to stay in Cock Bridge

Places to stay in Cock Bridge
Situated just 5 miles from Tomintoul, the highest village in the Highlands and nestled into the wooded hillsides of The Braes of Glenlivet in the North East quadrant of the Cairngorms National Park. From pleasant walking right on your doorstep to fishing, cycling, skiing, canoeing, the whisky & castle trails and lots more to discover, there is something for everyone in the region. Whatever your passion you can rest assured that peace & tranquility await you here at the end of each exciting day.
COVID 19 (CORONA VIRUS) UPDATE: 23rd March 2020. Due to further restrictions imposed today, we will not be accepting bookings before 1st May 2020. If you wish to visit after that date please do book but be aware that if the situation remains the same or worsens, then your booking may have to be cancelled. Wendy & Mike offer respectful guests who share the airbnb ethos, exclusive use of our recently refurbished (October 2019) self catering chalet which sits within our cottage grounds and has its own pedestrian and vehicle access as well as off road parking. With fabulous views of the Brae and it's wooded hillsides, you can enjoy the peace of the countryside whilst being in easy reach of local amenities. Tomintoul (our nearest village) is just 8 minutes by car; there you will find pubs, a general store and post office and two restaurants. There are also two cafes, outdoor clothing & unusual gift shop and a gallery. The Whiskey Castle is a must see whether or not this is your tipple. Information on the area can be found both in the Crown Estates ranger centre & the Tomintoul Discovery Centre. Plenty of folk make this their base for up to a week as there is so much to see & do up here. Within a 90 minute drive lies the whole north east coast with it's myriad of beaches and interesting villages, the Black Isle and of course Loch Ness. If whisky is your thing then you are at the centre of tasting heaven; The Glenlivet is just 10 minutes away. Total privacy is assured. Whisky or Castles, Mountain tops or Lochs, it's all yours here at The Couples Retreat. I have been asked by previous guests to point out that there are animals around the area and that you might hear them at night. There are sheep & cows in the adjacent fields, we are also likely to have stoat, fox, vole, mice, rabbit, hare and deer in the grounds and quite close to the property. We also have owls that hoot at night (yes I'm laughing too).
Being situated on The Crowns' Glenlivet estate in The Cairngorms National Park has many benefits for the traveler, but the main reasons most people come here are the peace & quiet, stunning views and wildlife. If it is outdoor activities you crave then they are also here in abundance, visit the Glenlivet Estate or Cairngorms websites to find your passion.

  • Lovely self-catering cottage with a big comfortable bed. Perfect for a couples retreat as the name suggests. Wendy greeted us when we arrived and gave us some visiting tips. Clean quiet place with a private entrance that is well lit at night. We got our food supplies at local town Tomnavoulin. Wendy 's place is well equip for self catering. Perfect location. It's a short drive to the Scalan heritage trail. We also did Carn Daimh forest trail which is about 10min drive away. Glenlivet distillery is also nearby. Definitely worth a tour if you are a whisky fan.

    Ben2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • THIS! Was an incredibly beautiful, quiet place to stay. We were able to relax and spent our days exploring the property (and feeding the animals), the local area (on foot) which was rich in history and the surrounding areas by car. The sweetheart cottage was the perfect getaway for us just before our wedding. We really needed some downtime. We lay in late in bed in the mornings, sipped prosecco and warmed ourselves in the hot tub at night. We cooked much, laughed lots and loved immensely. We will definitely be back.

    Nicol2020-02-04T00:00:00Z

Gairncliffe is a newly renovated cottage 20 minutes walk from the beautiful town of Ballater in Royal Deeside. Set in a secluded woodland location by the river Gairn, it comes complete with hot tub, wood burning stove, Netflix and high speed broadband.
  • I wanted somewhere special to celebrate my 50th birthday with my husband, adult children and partners -this fitted the bill perfectly! The house is a great sociable space. As we were there in early March we had the log burner going and it was so cosy. The bedrooms are all very comfortable and the bathrooms fitted out beautifully-lots of hot water. The hot tub takes a while to heat in the winter but it is worth it! The location is peaceful but with easy access to Ballater and lots of lovely walks. Steve was great at communicating. I would highly recommend!

    Sarah2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is wonderful house which is furnished lovely and a walkable distance to Ballater

    Kieran2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • This holiday haven is the perfect getaway to really ‘getaway’ from it all! Beautiful cottage, fantastic views and perfectly located. The hot tub was a welcome sight after some skiing up on the mountains, we spent a week here but could easily have stayed longer! Tranquility in spades, we will definitely be back for our slice of paradise again soon 😀

    Kate2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing get away for a small group or a big family. Spacious bedrooms with amazing bedding, large well stocked kitchen with amazing appliances and cookware. Hot tub dose take some work to get hot but worth it. 10 mins walk to a spa, 20 mins to the town. Fantastic place and will definitely look to return

    Thomas2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay at Gairncliffe Cottage. Lovely surroundings and very comfortable place to relax and get away from things. Would definitely come back again.

    Beth2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully renovated cottage that has everything you need and more for a little getaway. The highlights were the hot tub with a totally uninterrupted view and the insanely comfy super king bed in the master bedroom. The house is gorgeous but also really comfortable and practical and we couldn’t have asked for more. Steve was really helpful and responded quickly to my questions. Overall it was just perfect!

A beautifully renovated Mill surrounded by farmland and hills. We are ideally located on the Glenlivet Estate in the Cairngorms National Park. Our Mill is a gorgeous home-away-from-home option! Whether you are in need of a peaceful weekend retreat or on a family vacation the Mill is the perfect place to stay in comfort and style. The casual luxury of the Mill will take your breath away and put you at ease! Look no further...the Mill is the perfect self catering holiday destination for you!
Auchnascraw Mill was built around the 1830s and was used for grinding oats. It was a working Mill until the mid 1940s. Lots of original features of the Mill have been incorporated into the renovation to maintain its character. Look for details like the exposed stone walls, use of millstones, gear wheel and unique ironwork. The living room features the original flagstone floors and there is underfloor heating throughout the entire downstairs. Keep cozy in front of the wood stove in the living room, while enjoying panoramic views out each and every window. The Mill has been professionally decorated with high-quality furnishings and accessories throughout. The kitchen features top-of the-line appliances (induction range & cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle, coffee maker) and is fully equipped for all your cooking needs. You will sleep well in either of our comfortable bedrooms! The master bedroom has a super-king size pillow-top mattress and sofa for lounging. The second bedroom has two single beds with pillow-top mattresses that can be zipped together to create another super-king size bed (please let us know how you would like these beds made up). There is also a sofa bed that can be made into a king-size bed in the upstairs nook between the two bedrooms, which can sleep an additional two people. Currently we do not have a TV but there is free wi-fi. The Mill is also equipped for family fun with lots of games, books and toys to enjoy. There is a washer and dryer in our utility room provided for your convenience.
Auchnascraw Mill is situated in what is locally known as "The Braes of Glenlivet," braes meaning hills, which you can see in every direction. There are many things to do right on your doorstep, from walking, cycling and wildlife watching to just relaxing and enjoying the views of the surrounding Ladder Hills. You can walk to the Scalan and there are many other waymarked walking/cycling routes, including the Smugglers Trails. We are just over a ten minute drive from the village of Tomintoul, known as the "Highest Village in the Highlands" where there are a few shops, cafes, pubs, a restaurant, and art galleries. There is a tourist information centre with a museum and the Glenlivet Estate Office which both have lots of information about the area. Well worth a visit! The Mill is also centrally located for: walking, mountain biking, fishing, golfing, wildlife watching, whisky trails, skiing at the Lecht and Cairngorms, visiting the castle routes (Drumin, Corgarff, Ballindalloch and Balvenie to name a few), coastal trails, many towns and more! You can explore the Highlands, Moray coastline, Cairngorms, and Royal Deeside in day-trips from the Mill and look forward to coming back to relax at the end of your day. Here are some distances to some popular towns/sight seeing destinations: •15 minutes to the world famous The Glenlivet Distillery •20 mintues from Glenlivet Mountain Bike Centre (great trails and a super cafe) •30 minutes to Grantown-on-Spey, Aberlour & Dufftown •45 minutes to Aviemore and the Cairngorms •50 minutes to Elgin, Huntly, Fochabers, Forres •1 hour to the Moray Coast/Moray Firth (Lossiemouth, Findhorn, Spey Bay, Nairn, Burghead, Portknockie, Cullen) •75 minutes to Inverness and 90 minutes to Loch Ness
  • The mill is a stunning place to stay with amazing views. It is well equipped so that you can bring groceries with you and be able to cook just about anything. There is also a good selection of games and books for a rainy day or just enjoy sitting by the log fire. In good weather the location makes it easy to go for walks through the cairngorms which are a must see if you are staying here! The mill is spotless and has a lot of character to make for a cozy place to be

  • This is a place that has to be seen to be believed. The attention to detail that's gone into renovating the mill and the outstanding hospitality from Megan and Sean have made our stay here over New Years an absolute delight. Whether you come in summer, winter or in between - if this is your home in the Scottish highlands, you're in for a treat!

    Elena2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in the old mill. Would highly recommend!

    Daniel2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • The mill house is a beautiful place for a get away. We were just a couple but it could hold 4-6 people as a group comfortably. The decoration is so tasteful and the original mill features are really cool. With a fire and under floor heating it is so cosy and the lounge area and outside area are great for hanging out there. The kitchen has EVERYTHING you could possibly want to use - you’d probably have all the tools you’d need for making a Christmas dinner! There’s lots of information in the house about local walks and activities from this remote location. We couldn’t have asked for a better property for our trip! Thank you for having us!

    Susan2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • A warm welcome and stunning property and location.

    Karen2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This renovated Mill will surpass your expectations. Amazing architecture, attention to detail (fresh flowers in many of the windows), beauty views from every window in every room. Megan and Sean thought of every single thing a guest might need, and I mean everything! Greeted by Megan with a scrumptious lemon bread, logs in the hearth ready to burn. Heated floors were to die for. Megan and Sean are definitely superhosts and we cannot wait to come back to this beautiful haven in the Cairngorms. Barb, Ari and Alexis

    Bj2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing experience, the house is beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean. Megan and Sean are formidable hosts, with small details that made the whole difference. My only regret is that we didn't stay any longer !

    Marc2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutly fabulous!! Megan & Sean were fabulous hosts. The old mill is lovely, felt at home the moment we walked in the door. Centrally located in the heart of whiskey country but off the beaten path. We cannot wait to book again!

  • a somewhat rootsy but very warm cabin in a magnificent environment. A welcoming host. Great stay!

    Nicole2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Jack’s bothy was just what me and my partner were looking for. It was quiet with beautiful views and Jack was warm and welcoming with good local tips and help on getting around. The bothy is centred around a lovely fire and has all that you need. The toilet and shower were around in the main house but this was not a problem. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to get away and have a quiet and peaceful experience in the Cairngorms.

    Freya2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Jack was a thoughtful man went for a walk with us full of knowledge about the area. The Bothy is wonderful. Right in front of a forest on a hill and a great view of the sunset and snowy mountains. Gave us the wood to keep our stove steadily going through the cold nights and mornings. I just want to thank him for the privacy and calmness of my experience. It is a great place to see the mountains and the stars. Please bring your own towels, tooth paste and slippers maybe even extra sleeping bag it can get cold in winter. Also we bought all our stuff beforehand but there is a spar down the road 5 minutes walk. Has most things you need. Thank you Jack.

    Cristian2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at the bothy! Jack was an excellent host. He provided plenty of logs so the bothy was super cosy even though it snowed while I was there! I also brought a hot water bottle and some extra blanket although it turned out there were spare blankets already provided. The separate bathroom and shower are modern and sparkling clean. The Steading Bar is very close, has beautiful decor, tasty snacks and the best hot choc! Also within walking distance is a Thai massage at Pla’s house. Also the best massage I’ve had. Beautiful rural location - perfect get away to chill out and take a break from the busyness of life!

    Laura2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jack lit a fire to welcome us and the place was lovely and cozy

    Zita2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really great time at Jack's bothy. Jack is a really great host and the bothy was really nice and cozy especially due to the oven. The nature around the hut is amazing, so we were able to do lots of walks and hikes. We just spent one week in the bothy and in the end neither of us wanted to leave.

  • The wee beehive was a beautiful, welcoming and cosy place to snuggle down in while there was a storm blowing a gale outside. Elizabeth checked in on us to see if we were ok. The inside was lovely with a coffee machine and kettle so we didn’t have to brave the wild outdoors first thing in the morning. Very good shower which was well appreciated after a cold wet dog walk in the nearby hills. Beautiful place to stay.

  • The wee beehive is adorable, the location is gorgeous and we had such a great stay. We stayed for our anniversary and upon arrival saw that they had put an anniversary banner above the bed. The wee touches such as petals on the bed and complimentary wine and cheese made the stay so special. The bed was extremely comfortable and it is lovely to watch the ponies wander about through the window of the cabin. If you’re looking for a cosy and romantic weekend away from it all then this is definitely the place for you.

    Conor2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Both myself and my husband and our Dog loved our mini break at 'the wee beehive'. a lot of thought has been put into the design of the place and in making it quirky and unusual and very cosy. Despite it been chilly outside the hut was lovely and warm on the inside. The location is gorgeous, and perfect for watching the sunrise over the hillsides. Would Def recommend staying at this place.

Live like a local! A wonderful old family home that is the perfect spot for peace in nature, fishing, Castles & Whisky, hill-walking, local festivities/history (Forbes in particular) and a really good night's sleep. Enjoy the house itself or the 12 acres of mostly woodlands at our doorstep. Climb to the top of Ben Newe (right out the back door!) Within half an hour of several golf courses and 20 minutes from the Lecht Ski Centre. Come enjoy a Newe Experience!
The Crow's Nest is a cosy flat within House of Newe. It has all the Bohemian Highland charm of the house itself but is self-contained. The big room, known as the Lookout, is set up as a dining area and lounge. The table is under the east window-a great place to greet the morning and watch the birds. The double south-facing windows bring in a lot of light (known to inspire a Painter or two)! One of the two love seats turns in to a snug wee double bed. In the wardrobe, there is a screen and DVDs and movies for the whole family. There are also games, puzzles, books. The bedroom and shower rooms have been completely renovated but still maintain the unique charm of Newe. The kitchenette (The Galley) is small but well-equipped. "An incredibly peaceful place full of lots of creative energy!"
Hillwalking, castles, distilleries, National Park, standing stones, fishing, skiing, local events (music & other arts)...etc
  • It was a lovely remote flat. We had a great weekend staying with Kym who was a lovely host. The flat had everything we expected and I highly recommend it to anyone.

    Adele2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Before our stay Kym had already sent a message about the state of the roads - it had snowed quite a bit. We are glad she did, because we were at least a little bit prepared for the white world we entered. The flat was beautiful and the room downstairs (with all the relics) was amazing. Beautiful people, beautiful house and stunning surroundings. It was just lovely.

    Emmeline2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot and great guest flat. We had a night out, at Glenbuchat village hall, for a gig, then spent the next afternoon in The Steading Bar, a less than 1km walk from House of Newe, after walking up Ben Newe. A house full of character but also quiet and cosy with lots of nice stuff nearby. Great wee kitchen with everything you need. Walk further up the track to see the pigs :)

    Elaine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kym’s place was an amazing stay. We were greeted warmly and had information when we needed. The location was great with woodland right outside the door. We loved the Cairngorms. The place has everything you need (some quality CDs for movie time) -a lovely home, lovely host and lovely location, HUGELY recommended!

  • The stay with Kym and Johnny was great in one word! What a beautiful property to stay in! After a few travel days we had our own place in the Crows Nest, great for relaxing! And beautiful surroundings for walking our dog and for running! We thought it was great!

Located in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park the “Housie” was converted from an outbuilding to what you see today. It is located up a dirt track (approx. ½ mile) and is surrounded by some stunning scenery. Although it is located near to the main house the separate access allows a reasonable degree of privacy. It allows easy access to activities in Donside, Deeside and Speyside! .
Accessibility to Local attractions. The nearest distillery on the Whisky Trail is approx an hour away but the Royal Lochnagar is closer being 45 minutes up the Deeside valley. There is easy access to Bike Tracks, Hill Walking, Bird Watching and Fishing in the summer and in the winter the Lecht Ski Centre is a 30 minute drive, Glenshee 55 minutes and Cairngorms is just over an hour away.
  • We love the house so much so we extended three nights to stay a longer time

    Alicia2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • The host is really amazing, so nice, kind and patient. We had a great holiday there and the view is really awesome. And the ski school is very nearby, we were so happy being there. Really recommend it!

  • The housie is perfect. Great cozy space, well equipped kitchen, comfy beds and a great location to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy some nature. Laura was absolutely lovely and happy to help with anything. Highly recommend.

    Alyse2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • The Housie is wonderful and we recommend it to anyone! We were warmly welcomed by Laura and felt at home from the first moment. It has everything, and more, what you need, the location is nice and quiet in the middle of nature and in the evening deer have crossed our way to the house. Just perfect! We would go back immediately!

    Daniela2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • The Housie of Laura and Charles is a delightful place to stay, out in the countryside where it is quiet and rural. It is a little home away from home. On a clear night the stars are incredible. There are lovely villages like Ballater, Aboyne and Braemar within a few miles, and lots of good walks.

    Jenny2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • What a cosy and quiet house to call home for a few days ! Both Laura and Charlie are very welcoming hosts. The housie was very clean, well equipped and heating was able to come on at a touch of a button ! Very impressed with all aspects of the housie, including the well stocked kitchen and bathroom. Excellent location within the Cairngorms, only a hour to Aberdeen and an hour north to the coast. There is no TV, only radio - so definitely a great place to get away from it all. Would definitely recommend !

House of Newe is over 400 years old and was built by my husband's ancestors. It is a well-loved space by all who visit it! If we have time we are happy to tell you a bit of the history of the house itself and the Forbes family who built it. (Once you have booked be sure to take note of our Directions Notes)
We are tucked away from the busy world, which can mean a little more planning-but it is worth it! Our local grocery shop, the Spar at Bellabeg, is only a few minute drive west of us and is well stocked for a "wee" shop. The local pub has just shut (April 2018) as the new owners are doing renovations. In the meanwhile, there will be use of kitchen facilities (upon arrangement preferred) and a list of great restaurants nearby will be provided (nearby means approximately 20 min drive). You don't have to drive anywhere to walk in the wilderness! Just behind the house is Ben Newe. This hill has lovely wooded walks which end up at beautiful open vistas at the top. Extra clothing/boots may be able to be provided, if needed.
  • Very warm welcome from Kim. Being at home at a time of cold and snow we got a better room than the one we rented. She even cleared the snow on the path to her house. Baloo, the dog is adorable! You can go to Kim's place with your eyes closed.

    Martine2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a magical time in this beautiful and authentic home ! Kym is very welcoming and will do everything to make yourself feel at home. The breakfast is really nice and the bedroom very comfortable. We highly recommend it !

    Pauline2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Kym's home is beautiful and isolated... we came from the city so the peace and quiet was amazing. There is a ton of history in the house; it was built hundreds of years ago, and Kym had some cool books out to look through and learn about the past. Tea and coffee were great in the morning along with much appreciated tips on local food places and areas to explore. We would gladly stay again if we are in the area!

    Phillip2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to stay in beautiful surroundings where you feel as though you are being welcomed by an old friend then this is the perfect place for you! The House of Newe is full of history and charm and Kym and Jonny are the friendliest people you could hope to meet!

    Rebekka2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Kym is a wonderful hostess and we loved meeting her and Jonny, we were late on arriving the first night and were immediately and generously offered a home cooked meal after a very long journey! This is a historical house which sits within lush grounds and dates from 1604, it belonged to Jonny's ancestors and they both take a great delight in sharing its rich and interesting history if you are curious. Our room was cosy and comfortable with lovely fabrics and textiles and we have no hesitation in recommending this place. Great location for hiking too...

    Smita2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 2 wonderful days in Kym's house. The location is very nice there are walks to do not far. We had a very nice welcome. We would have liked to spend more days in this unique and comfortable house!

    Sebastien2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Kym and Jonny (and Baloo and Pip) are just the loveliest family. The space we were given was warm and inviting, the shower was a walk-in (important for people with balance issues, like me). Jonny’s family history is on display and he’s happy to give you a little tour if you ask. The property is tricky to find, but well worth the effort. You’re not just at some inn; you’re at home.

    Graceann2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Home top, Jonny and Kym are caring hosts, reassuring and friendly. The beautiful and large room allowed us to spend one of the most beautiful nights of our stay, the bed is really very comfortable and the calm of the forest is soothing. The breakfast was full and for all tastes. If we pass by, we are sure to return.

Woodside Cottage is a recently converted and renovated 4 bedroom cottage in Cairngorm National Park. Located only 4 miles from the Lecht Ski Resort and surrounded by beautiful mountains and hiking routes, Corgarff is the ideal location to experience the Scottish Highlands by sightseeing, hiking, skiing, exploring, fishing and bird watching or just to relax. Woodside sleeps 8 people maximum, and has two bathrooms with bath and shower. We have two living spaces, complete with original fireplace.
The original Woodside Cottage was built in 1880 as a one bedroom, one living room stone cottage. We have since extended the building to provide a further three bedrooms, kitchen, and living space. We have made use of as many local materials as possible in the refurbishment, preserving the original Cairngorm granite for the stonework, and using a local, sustainable wood for the outer cladding. Our open plan kitchen/dining area features large windows providing views of the nearby woods and highland moorland. Our second living room has the original stone fireplace with wood-burning fire, and we provide a basket of firewood for use of this. Woodside Cottage has very recently been renovated, and there is still a little work to be done to the gardens and grounds, including the fencing. For this reason we are listing at a reduced rate, but please take care of some loose stones in the gardens.
Corgarff is situated in the north-east of Cairngorm National Park, between Tomintoul and Strathdon. It is 4 miles from the Lecht Ski Resort, and is within driving distance of the historic town of Braemar, the whisky-making Tomintoul, and Aviemore.

  • Amazing place, can’t recommend highly enough for anyone looking for a weekend in the Cairngorms. The hut is beautiful and Kevin and Claire are wonderful hosts. Staying here was a real treat.

  • What a fabulous two night break in this idyllic part of the world. Kevin and Claire were fabulous hosts from start to finish and the shephards hut was just perfect. Can't wait to return again.

    Victoria2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • If you like cozy and peaceful, this place is perfect. The hut is just off the Snow Roads scenic route, so it is perfectly positioned for exploring either the route itself or the rest of the National Park. It is surrounded by farmland, so when you are in, you will only hear farm animals, birds, wind (and rain every now and then - it’s Scotland after all). It is incredibly peaceful. The hut itself is very well equipped - it has a comfortable bed, proper little fire place, great shower, fridge with a little freezer, crockery, cutlery, kettle, toaster, utensils, tea, coffee, milk, salt, pepper... exactly the things you might need for a short stay. (The wifi is strong and fast, too, should you need it.) A nearby town of Tomintoul has a small village store and a couple of restaurants, but Grantown on Spey is not too far if you need a supermarket or more restaurants. Kevin and Claire were very helpful at the time of booking and very welcoming upon my arrival. Overall, I would love to come back and stay again and I would highly recommend the hut to anyone who is looking to book.

  • we've stayed at Nicole's glamping houses just for one night, but was perfect. she's been so lovely with us, and showed us everything she was offering as an host. also, we had a stunning view on the Dee river and a really nice walk just down the fields. we really raccomand to stay at her glamping and enjoy a night in the nature

    Nausicaa2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Super cosy - we could watch the stars through our door but didn't feel the frost at all. Really clean bathrooms and a great social space too. Lovely quiet location. Will definitely be returning!

  • An absolute must for anyone who wants to be in the middle of the countryside, but have a couple of comforts, too! We had another great stay at Howe of Torbeg. Nicole is so welcoming and we are looking forward to staying again. Our pod, and showers and toilets sparkling clean and I just love the Tea Shed! Really beautiful place to waken up to and get the kettle going for your morning coffee. There are heaters in the pod, so even on the coldest of days, you know you’ll be snug. We stayed the night before a cycle and can’t wait to spend a weekend here. You are in the middle of no where, but only 10 minute drive from Ballater and then on to the rest of the gorgeous Aberdeenshire countryside.

    Kirsty2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely top glamping!

    Maud2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • The small little pod community in the hills. It's beautiful and idyllic, and super cozy, without sacrificing things like heat and nice restrooms. And I loved the tea shack, so cute.

    Jesse2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • It was very evident that Nicole loves being a Host-thoughtful touches everywhere, the pod, shower house and gathering house were very well made and tastefully decorated. The scenery was absolutely spectacular. Loved getting coffee and croissants delivered and enjoying them at our picnic table. Nicole even let us borrow one of the cold bags so we could buy some things and keep them cold during the day. We were sick when we got there, which was disappointing but what a great place to have to stay put and relax. Only wish we would’ve had more time. Also, Ballater was a fabulous village.

    Julie2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • What a stunning, peaceful, place to stay. We loved the experience and very much enjoyed our time here. The facilities are lovely and I would very happily return again next time we are back in the area....it is just delightful.

The two bedrooms on the first floor are comfortable and spacious, allowing you to get a good nights sleep before your next days adventures. For those wishing to explore the outdoors there is a secure bike storage area and drying area for outdoor clothes. During summer there is also a patio and garden area to sit back and relax soaking up the stunning views down the valley.
The property sits in a secluded spot only two miles from the village of Tomintoul. Tomintoul has a good range of services, from local store, gift shops, art gallery, pubs and restaurants. There are also lovely restaurants within a short drive at Ballindalloch and Grantown. The cottage is adjoined to the original farmhouse, where my sons family stay, however the cottage has a private entrance, parking area and garden to ensure you have a peaceful stay. For those that enjoy Mountain Biking, the Glenlivet Mountain Bike trails are just 0.5 miles along the road and secure bike storage is available at the cottage or you can hire bikes at the centre.
  • Fantastic views of the area and some of the warmest hospitality you will find. The cottage is in a remote location but close to many Speyside whisky distilleries and is not difficult to find by car. The rooms were very comfortable. Just remember to bring some £1 and £2 coins as an electricity meter is in use at the property. Would happily return. Thanks Anne and family, for a lovely stay.

  • We had a very enjoyable stay at Tomintoul due to the great accommodation at Croughly Cottage. It is full of character, warm and cosy, and lacks nothing. It is well located for walking in the Glen Livet Estate. For a family stay this cottage is to be highly recommended.

  • Anne's cottage is a dream. Anne was at the check-in on site and showed us everything in the house and explained. In bad weather you should definitely throw the small wood stove - it will be even more comfortable. :) We can only recommend a stay.

  • Excellent place to stay and explore the area. The lodge is very secluded, and has a lovely outdoor patio area. The kitchen is well equipped to cook meals, and there is ample space in the lodge (1 double bedroom and a twin plus large lounge area). There's a utility room with washing machine (so perfect for outdoors activities). Remember to bring all the supplies you need, because shops are not close (there is a Spar nearby but we didn't try it). Definitely would recommend.

  • The setting for this cottage is utterly amazing, and the cottage itself is a credit to Linda. You have everything you need, and Linda and her husband were so welcoming. Although the village is quite remote, you don't have to go too far to find lots to do.

Auchriachan Farm sits just outside the Village of Tomintoul the Highest village in the Highlands, this is a family working farm. After Glamping ourselves we decided this would be an ideal situation to set up our very own Pods & give others the experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. Being in the Glenlivet Estate & also in the Cairngorm National Park there is lots to offer, walking, cycling, bird watching, skiing & not forgetting the National Scottish Drink "WHISKY" lots of Distilleries to Visit.
As you can see from my own Photos, we have stocked Pods with all you require for your memorable stay, each pod also has a BBq Fire Pit.
The Cairngorms is such a Beautiful National Park, be it Sunny, Raining or Snowing ....sometimes all seasons in one day, its STUNNING. The Glenlivet & Tomintoul Area is the best place in the Cairngorms National Park to Discover the "Wonders of the Night Sky" Basically its the best place for "Star Gazing" & this can be done in privacy from your Pod Patio whilst you are sitting relaxing with a dram in hand infront of your cosy Fire Pit - what more could you want! Not Forgetting we are situated on the route of the "North East 250" which again takes you through some breathtaking scenery & places to Visit - Royal Deeside! Have to say the "Clockhouse" Restaurant in the Square does very good food! There are also 3 local pubs which also do barmeals. On a Tuesday Night we get a visit from a "Fish & Chip" Van which sits also in the square of Tom - very tasty! Our Local Food Store & Post Office - good supply of fresh produce, butcher meat, veg, cheese, alcohol etc
  • Everything you could ask for from a wee get-away! Well kept, cosy pods in a stunning spot. Will definitely be back!

    Christopher2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Had such a wonderful stay here, the pod was private, cosy and comfortable - everything we could have needed. Loved the thoughtful touches on arrival and we were made to feel very welcome. Would highly recommend & we will definitely stay again!

    Aileen2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful cosy pod in a stunning private location, but still close enough to Tomintoul town. Great for stargazers and people after a quiet retreat. Debbie is extremely hospitable.

A charming static caravan in the highest village in the Cairngorms, Tomintoul. Located on a private plot of land on the edge of the small village with a beautiful view over the nearby countryside, it is a peaceful, cosy little escape in the highlands. An ideal base for outdoorsy types who want to explore nearby mountain biking trails, ski slopes, hill walking etc or a perfect scenic holiday spot for families or a small group looking to soak up a spot of rural Scotland.
This mobile home is cosy, peaceful and charming, standing on its own private site on the outskirts of the village with beautiful views of nearby countryside fields. It is retro in furnishings and possesses basic amenities. There are two electric hobs, a fridge, a kettle and a microwave in the kitchen. There is also a freestanding electric oven. You may struggle to whip up a three course gastronomic experience, but the kitchen is well equipped for making simple meals! There is a hot shower, two bathrooms and storage heaters throughout the caravan. Please be mindful of the quiet village atmosphere and the neighbours and prevent causing noise pollution during your stay.
Tomintoul is the highest village in the Cairngorms. It is a scenic little place only three streets long surrounded by peaceful walks, incredible views and easy access to nearby outdoor activities like mountain biking, horse riding and skiing. The village square has a few restaurants and cafes, two friendly pubs (I recommend the Richmond Arms which has a vast selection of whiskey), a local post office and mini-mart and a wonderful Whisky shop well worth a visit. There is a kids play park situated near the bottom of the main street of the village. There is also a country walk down to a nearby scenic river and beloved viewpoints scoped out by Queen Victoria who travelled through the region during her reign. The village is surrounded by history and is an adorable little place to unwind and soak up quiet village life. It is cold in this area, even in the summer, given its highland location - pack for all weathers so as not to get caught out!
  • The static caravan in Tomintoul was perfect! It was on a little site of it's own so nice and easy to find. Janine was so helpful. The caravan itself was spacious and the living room area was large. It was cosy and warm, with lots of hot water for showers. It was only a 10 minute drive to The Lecht 2090 where the beginner slopes were brilliant with the snow machine being in use. We didn't spend much time in Tomintoul (which was only a 2 min walk away) but it was a lovely wee village. We did go to the local shop/post office which had loads of grocery items including beer and wine.

    Heather2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Janine has a nice and cozy Caravan in Tomintoul, a beautiful small town very well located to explore the Highlands. The place has everything you need and even games, pencils and cards if you travel with kids in winter and need to spend some time inside. I definitely would stay there again!

    Paul2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • It was short family break. The caravan was spotless clean, communication with the host - Janine was quick and very straight forward. If you add to it fantastic location, great weather you have mix for fantastic family holiday. Thank you

    Mira2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Janine's place, it was in great location with a quaint little town. it takes 30mins by car to get to the nest big town in Grantown on Spey for groceries and gas. We liked the place it was central for all the locations we wanted to visit like Avemore and its attractions (20mins), Glenvlivet distillery (20min)s and , 1hr 30min to Loch Ness and its suroundings. Janine's place was secluded, very spacious and homely with a big front yard (yes-we did take advantage to make BBQ - Not minding the weather) with a great view to fields and 3 white horses. Thank you so much for letting us stay in your caravan and we highly recommend this.

Clashnettie Arts Centre is remote, beautiful and quiet with a feeling of connection to the landscape. It is an inspiring place for creativity of any kind. The large downstairs room is light, spacious and warm with magnificent views up the Deskry Glen to Morven the nearest hill at 2800ft. Strathdon is close to several castles, gardens and distilleries and the annual Lonach Gathering in August.
The property is ideal for retreats or small courses. Extra accommodation can be found if necessary. The area is a haven for wildlife and a good base for painting, bird watching, cycling and walking. There is a good and recently tuned piano in the sitting room.
Clashnettie sits alone on a hillside and is not visible from anywhere else.
  • A lovely house for a quiet weekend away, beautifully presented and well-equipped. We were warm and snug despite howling winds and blizzard conditions. The kids particularly enjoyed the amazing metal animal sculptures in the grounds!

    Helen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a magical place. The house is very comfortable with the special bonus of Helen’s wonderful sculptures out in the garden. Peace and beauty are guaranteed!

  • A stunning & peaceful location, a perfect place to stop & unwind. Our only regret is that we weren’t able to stay longer so we’d definitely love to return one day.

    Debbie2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The scenery is magnificent and Deeside villages have much to offer. We were lucky enough to see the red squirrel in October sunshine. Helen is a fine host and liked the sculptures very much. We very much enjoyed our break, and would return again for sure!

    Ellen2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • The house is in a scenic countryside with views of hills, forest, river... Helen’s art dotted around the grounds and inside the house makes it a very special place. The house is comfortable and warm, with log fire in the living room. The communication was quick and accurate. Everything’s you need for the stay is there... I highly recommend!

    Kulli2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • We didn’t expect such a wonderful gem surrounded by beautiful landscape, art and nature. We put our cellphones to offline mode and enjoyed this stay as much as we could. We even skipped a dinner appointment and decided to stay there in the evening, cooking and enjoying the open fireplace. There is a trail nearby the house so you can go for a walk all along a river. We stayed for two days and even this short time was very relaxing for mind and soul and for us the whole environment was very inspiring. Helen is very kind and sweet and gave us a warm welcome.

    Melanie2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our stay. Fabulous artwork, great setting, great accommodation. Thanks very much

  • Helen’s Clashnettie Arts Centre is wonderful place! I don’t know if there is place on the scottish mainland which is more hide away, but there is absolutely worth! You are absolutely lonesome just surrounded by nature. It’s a place where you can calm down and get new energy. The house is just perfect for the place where it is. You can feel the artistic spirit all over the house. It’s so cosy and you have all you need! We highly recommend!

Most bigger cities can be visited in about a hour with the car. But don’t forget the nearer smaller towns and hikes! If you like a peace and quiet place, then this cottage is the one for you.

  • Thia was a very nice, unique space that was big ebough for the six of us, had everything we needed...we had our own Internet. If you are looking for an expereince this is the place. We loved Jo and we loved the White House!!!

    Michael2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely house in an amazing remote location. Jo the house manager is excellent and there to help when you need it. Walks are amazing and there is a roaring fire for when you get back.

    Andrew2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great Location! Great experience all round. If you’re looking for an idyllic and peaceful get away with 6+ people, this is the place.

  • Just amazing place, total peace and privacy and the locals make you feel at home.

    Mikkel2018-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Jo was great fun and provides lots of local info. The house is in a wonderful location and has everything you need for a night or a few weeks. We were there, sadly, for only a couple of nights (we could well have stayed longer) and enjoyed ourselves seeing Glenlivet and a Highland Sports event.

    Ed2018-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Nice home out in the countryside. Very cosy, Jo the caretaker is very friendly.

    Kasey2018-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was great. The location of the house is perfect, in the middle of the Highlands, a passing car is an attraction :-). The River Don is nearby and is well suited for a refreshment. The equipment of the house is not luxurious, but it is what you would expect in a country house. It is more rustic. The equipment was nothing missing, barbecue cutlery, sufficient kitchen utensils, soap and even emergency food, in case you did not buy enough, is available. Piece by piece, the house is being renovated, which means no restriction. Presumably, in rooms not rented, a room will always be renovated. John is a great host, the check-in made them personal, explained everything in-house and gave tips for things to do. It really made you feel welcome. On departure, she even provided us with travel trays for my children, because we had already used up our on the way there.

  • My wife and me spent two nights at her cottage to hike in the national park. The place is a small cottage, where you get a small room. The bathroom is shared with the owner. The biggest reason for the 5* rating is Felicity herself, who is a very caring, helpful and interesting Person. Thanks again for the good times, Best

    Simon2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Phenomenal stay with Felicity! Space was clean and warm, with little touches to help on a cold day! Would recommend in heart beat to anyone who was heading that way

    Matt2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy and beautiful apartment, the host is very friendly and has the cutest dog that is always bringing gifts of toys and old slippers. Beautiful location, great stay!

    Marsel2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in this wee cosy place. Felicity was very welcoming and put us at ease straight away. Breakfast was tasty (I would recommend the full Scottish breakfast) and the puppy adorable. I would stay again and recommend Felicity's place.

    Marine2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • A good base to start or continue the whiskey distillery visits. Request for traditional or local food and Felicity would be able to whip up an awesome treat. Pray for clear skies as the area is a Dark Sky region.

    Andrew2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very cosy place! Bigger bedroom than usual. Felicity is a very experienced traveler so be ready for an interesting chat and some nice life lessons :)

    Michał2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • It was a perfect airbnb, the one were you can chat with the host and don't see the time past. She gave us some very good advise for travel and visit for the next day.

    Pierre2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • I totally suggest this place to stay. Felicity is a really great host! Thanks!

The downstairs double bedroom with compact en-suite shower room. The bedroom has standard storage space for luggage and belongings. There are no tea and coffee making facilities because the size of the room dictates this, but we are happy to make you a hot drink whenever you are on the premises. There is no television in the room, but Wi-Fi is available. The room does not have a lock on the door, but this is a safe area and we shall be on the premises at all times during your stay.
Copper Beech B&B is located in the parish of Crathie, Royal Deeside a short walk from Crathie Kirk where successive members of the British Royal family have worshipped since the days of Queen Victoria, when enjoying their summer holidays at nearby Balmoral Castle. Apart from the local Tourist Information Centre there are no shops, restaurants and pubs in the immediate area and the nearest places to find such amenities are the pretty villages of Ballater and Braemar some eight miles away along the A93. However this does mean Crathie is a quiet and restful place. It is easy to see why this beautiful area of Scotland became the "Dear Paradise in the Highlands" so beloved of Queen Victoria. She wrote of Balmoral "It was so calm and so solitary, it did one good as one gazed around; and the pure mountain air was most refreshing. All seemed to breathe freedom and peace, and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoils." We like to think it still does.
  • We thank Janet for picking us up at the school car park as we struggled to find the address. Janet and Marc are very helpful and at our disposal. Scottish breakfast. Quiet and clean room. we strongly recommend

    Valerie2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Simply perfect. recommendable

    Gerhard2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our room was the smaller of the two offered by Janet and her husband, but she was as big as many that were offered elsewhere, and immaculate, with an en suite shower room. The house is very nice and well placed but the big plus is the quality of the home. And the wonderful breakfast, with fresh fruit. And a lot of information about the area. The most enjoyable accommodation of our two week stay in Scotland. Thank you !

    Anne2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • The room is not really big for two of us but it is okay for us. There is also hair dry in the room and the curtains are quiet good which keep the room dark. We are a young couple from Germany. Janet provides toiletry and towels. There are also breakfast: tee, coffee, toast, cereal, fruits and some other things. Because we had the small room you can ask her for tea and coffee and Janet will make it for you in the kitchen, otherwise you can make it on your own in your room. She provides us in the room everyday with two bottles of water and the room has been cleaned everyday. She also has a lovely cat called Lulu. Her husband is very chatty and you can ask him everything and he gave us many tips, where to go. We also have walked through the forest and of course it was sunny weather. When we arrived there was F1 race and he invited us to watch and we did. They also have an free internet. The only bother us, you need to drive a car somewhere (Ballater) which it is just 10 minutes, so no beer for dinner. However, we bought beers and Janet allowed us to stock our beers in her fridge. So we are happy. i think it is also possible to buy take away dinner and eating at Janet’s place. We feel like home at Janet’s place.

    Ida2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Clean comfortable space. Extremely good breakfast with very good plunger coffee. Owner comes in room to tidy whilst you are out which was unexpected. No key to house supplied but owners seem to be home at all times so wasn’t an issue. Bedroom door pops open a few cm when people walk down the hall past the door.

    Jess2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • VERY attentive hosts who can not do enough for you, and will go to any length to make sure that your stay is perfect - larger duvet, additional blanket - whatever. The location for visiting Balmoral is perfect - 5 minute walk from the house to the castle. Modern facilities throughout - super en-suite. Continental breakfast was great too. Plenty of parking and fast wi-fi. Very highly recommended.

    Bob2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is super clean and the hosts are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and generous. We would definitely spend our vacation again.

    Nancy2019-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Janet and Mark were both very friendly and offered great local tips. They were always willing to go the extra mile for their guests and will do anything to make them feel at home. I would recommend them to anyone looking to visit Balmoral/Braemar.

There are also Three Local pubs which do Barmeals. On a Tuesday Night we get a visit from a "Fish & Chip" Van which sits also in the square of Tom - very tasty! Our Local Food Store & Post Office - good supply of fresh produce, butcher meat, veg, cheese, alcohol etc
  • Debbie was beyond an amazing host. Her pod was the perfect glamping experience in Scotland. The homey feel of the pod made it a very warm and welcoming stay during a cold winter night. Plus the fresh eggs and home baked fruit cake were delicious! And then seeing her beautiful, curious highlands were amazing! The stay was a perfect end to a day spent on the whisky trail and exploring the Cairngorms. Would definitely love to stay again

    Veronica2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful little hidden Gem set in a picturesque tranquil area highly recommended for a break away Debbie is such a lovely host making the stay so much more enjoyable the little touches make it feel so homely the pod is lavish with all the amenities you need to help you relax and unwind the sun set and sun rise are amazing to watch and the clear crystal skies at night are beautiful watching the stars twinkling like you've never seen before it's a definite must visit

    Susan2019-10-24T00:00:00Z

  • Thank you Debbie & Andy for a very warm welcome and a really relaxing stay in your lovely new pods! I’d highly recommend a stay with ‘Glamping in the Gorms’ if you’re looking for a peaceful location, and the ideal place to explore the Cairngorms and Speyside. Looking forward to a return visit soon!

    Shona2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Unique and magical experience at the heart of this family farm. We had a wonderful and far too short stay unfortunately. Pods are fully equipped and small bonus: stove / barbecue outside, do not hesitate to buy something to eat at the supermarket before your arrival, there is a fridge. Debbie is a lovely host, we had the right to homemade cakes and milk from the farm when we arrived.

    Maxime2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay in a hip and stylish pod. The pods offer a comfortable and homey experience in a GREAT location. They are located minutes from Tomintoul and numerous distilleries. The pods have everything you may need and you can make breakfast in the morning with fresh eggs. Highly recommend!!!

    Katherine2019-09-22T00:00:00Z

Willowbank Lodge is a stunning home situated in the magnificent setting on the wooded banks of the river Dee. It boasts an elevated position with uninterupted views from our garden. Providing wonderful walking opportunities from the front door, or as a base to explore Royal Deeside. The beautiful Town of Ballater is a 20 min walk away, with direct access onto the Old Victorian railway line pathway.
Willowbank Lodge offers a beautiful light and airy bedroom for double occupancy. Our home's original floorboards are laid throughout the house while adding thick wool rugs to provide the ultimate cosy environment underfoot. We have decorated our room in a neutral scheme while adding colour and texture through layering different accessories that complement the natural environment. Our room also has table lamps to replace harsh overhead lighting to create a soothing and calming atmosphere that's ideal for winding down after a long day. There is also seating in the room if you wish to curl up wrapped in a cosy blanket with a good book or cup of tea - sheer bliss! Each private room has an en suite shower, toilet, hairdryer, free Super Wi Fi, Tea & Coffee making facilities and light breakfast items provided in the room. There is plenty of outdoor spaces for guests to enjoy a sunny spot or to spend time relaxing. Next to the house provides off street parking on our shared driveway.
  • Excellent hospitality- the hosts were very accommodating and helpful. Room decor very stylish, with a quality range of teas and delicious fruit. Views of the snowy Lochnagar in November!

  • Sharon & Mark's place was lovely and in a perfect location to enjoy the Cairngorms. Sharon's went over and above by driving us to the Highland Games, doing our laundry and providing a nice opening glass of wine. I highly recommend their cozy cottage!

    Sheri2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful 4 night stay at Sharon & Marks beautiful place. Sharon met us on arrival and showed us our room, there is a separate entrance to the Airbnb side of the property, and a locked door to your room. The room was very well presented and lovely and clean. The light breakfast provided was topped up everyday, and we had a bowl of fruit. The location is good, a 10/15 min walk to the Hilton at the edge of ballater, and a 20/25 min walk into the centre of ballater. Sharon was so friendly and offered to give us local advise too, I’d definitely stay again. Thank you!
