  • We stayed at Lisa's air bnb for a weekend work trip along with our toddler and two dogs. It is a converted building in the garden of her thatched cottage. The village is very sweet and the air bnb was perfect for our stay. Lisa's little touches were so thoughtful and made our stay even better. Lisa provided a travel cot and the room was very comfy. We ate in the local pub (white horse) on the Friday evening - they were very helpful and accommodating and the food was great. We visited RSPB Arne for work and the tank museum at Bovington - both were great visitor experiences and would highly recommend.

Our cosy Studio for 2 nestles on the edge of woodland, yet only 5 mins away from Shaftesbury in Dorset. Wake up to bird song, go for long walks right from the door step, explore many nearby attractions, enjoy a meal or drink on the private terrace. It is possible to have a third person staying. Please indicate 3 people when booking and we will make an airbed, bedding and towels available. There is a charge of £15 per night for a third person. Please be aware that the place is small!
This self contained, modern & comfortable studio annex as its own entrance with private terrace and outdoor space. The property sits in an area of outstanding natural beauty, nestled on the hillside on the edge of ancient woodland. The property is set in 1 acre of wildlife gardens in a quiet hamlet just 5 minutes drive from the historic hill town of Shaftesbury on the border between Dorset and Wiltshire. We are located about 1.5miles outside Shaftesbury in a small hamlet on the edge of the woods. The Studio has a very comfortable King size bed (5 feet wide and 6 feet 6 inches long – 150 x 198 cm), well equipped kitchenette, sitting & dining area, a quite small shower room with basin and toilet, and a walk-in wardrobe/storage. Ideal for walking holidays and short breaks. The studio is well located if you want to visit the End of the Road Festival or Larmer Tree Festival. The kitchenette is well equipped, including full size fridge with freezer compartment, oven with grill, 2 plate induction hob, kettle, toaster and extractor fan. The Studio is ideal for individual travellers, close friends or couples (we welcome all couples!). We're also happy to accommodate parents with babies, but you will need to bring your own cot. Please note that children need to be supervised in the garden! There is a 42" TV with Freesat and DVD player, free Wifi Internet connection (although this can sometimes be slow or disrupted because of our rural location - we can therefore not guarantee the internet service) and stereo speakers for plugging in your iPod or MP3 Player. A selections of DVDs, games and books are available. Outside is a picnic table. You can view the many different birds on the bird feeders, stroll around the wild gardens or sit in one of several quiet benches around the garden. Please note that we basically live in the woods, so there is no view from the Studio terrace. However, guests are welcome to stroll to the end of the garden and enjoy some views from the bench. There is a well stocked village store only 2 miles away in the village of Ludwell, a small grocery store at the petrol station 1 mile away. In Shaftesbury you will find a large Tesco superstore and a lovely town centre with interesting shops and cafés including some very nice food shops. There's a market on Thursday mornings. Shaftesbury is famous for its Gold Hill (from the Hovis Bread ad), it's Abbey, historic buildings and the amazing views across the Blackmore Vale. Salisbury is only 35mins drive to the east and Bath an hour north. An hours drive will also get you to some of the most stunning beaches of the Jurrasic Coast. We have created our house and the Studio as environmentally friendly as possible. We have solar panels to help heat the water and Solar PV to generate electricity. Rainwater is collected and feeds the toilets in the house. We use environmentally friendly cleaning materials and recycle and compost. Please help by separating your recyclables from normal household rubbish. The Studio is extremely well insulated and has central heating. Please note: both the central heating and hot water are heated by an air source heat pump. This is a very efficient and low energy system but works on low temperatures. Therefore please wait 10 minutes between showers, as there may otherwise not be enough hot water available. Similarly the central heating does work on low heat, therefore please don't expect the radiators to be piping hot. The temperature in the Studio should always be comfortable. If not, please let us know as the settings may need adjusting. What makes our place unique is the location. You will be right at the edge of the woods. Deer and badgers sometimes visit the garden and we have an abundance of different birds including Woodpeckers, Long Tail Tits, Jays, Song Thrushes and Bull Finches. You will find some wonderful walks (short and long) right on your doorstep. Yet we are only a 5 minute drive from Shaftesbury, Dorset which has an good selections of independent shops & cafés and a large Tesco. You can park free in Tesco carpark for 3 hours and walk into town from there. The Jurassic Coast (Poole, Studland, Weymouth) or Bath are within an hours drive. We run a non-smoking property, but you are welcome to smoke outside. Just leave your cigarette butts in the receptacle provided outside your entry door. We have a dog ourselves, so know how difficult it is to find accommodation that allows dogs. As the Studio is only a one-room accommodation, it is not suitable for large dogs. But if you do want to bring a small dog, please ask and we will consider it. A surcharge of £5 per night for bringing a dog applies. We also have a cat, Misty. She's basically an outdoor cat, but she likes to manipulate guests to let her into the Studio. You should know this if you're allergic to cats, as we cannot guarantee that the Studio doesn't contain allergens. Also if you do not want her in your room, just chuck her out and keep the windows open only a small gap at night, as otherwise you might receive an unwanted visitor.
My favourite thing about living here is that one can go on walks from 30 minutes to 3 hours through the most glorious country side and woodlands right from our door step. Guests always comment on how well they sleep here because it is so quite and how they like being woken up by bird song. You really are in the midst of nature, yet only a 5 minute drive away from Shaftesbury on the Dorset/Wiltshire border. You can walk into town if you wish. It will take you approximately 40-45 minutes through fields and woodland. Salisbury is a 40 mins and day-trips can be taken to Bath, Stourhead, Poole, Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast.
  • I enjoyed my few days away in the comfortable and peaceful space of the eco hideaway. It is beautifully put together, with modern fittings and views looking out on the garden. The town of Shaftesbury is close by, and I especially loved Park Walk. Gabriela and Neil are friendly and responsive hosts who I would highly recommend. Thank you again for a lovely stay!

Our lovely double height wood and stone barn directly opposite our house is found at the end of a long private drive in glorious countryside. A very comfortable 5ft bed, woodburning stove and lovely views, a perfect relaxing and cosy retreat. Easy access to lots of interesting places. Guests can play tennis and croquet. The Barn sleeps two adults. Ample parking directly next to Barn. Please note the Barn is not suitable for children. NB There are no shops or pubs within walking distance.
The Barn is set at the end of a long drive, well away from any road, in a private 33 acre estate, no noise, no light pollution, just peace and quiet. Although directly opposite the main house, it is quite private. High ceilings, french windows with country views, kingsize double bed (on mezzanine accessed by quite steep stairs), wood burning stove, oak dining table with candles, WIFI (not super fast or that strong), TV DVD player - everything you need for a comfortable weekend or longer stay. It is not a hi-tech/spec barn but it is comfy and in a beautiful setting. Parking directly next to the Barn. Well situated for visits to Bath, Salisbury, the Jurassic Coast, Gold Hill, the new Hauser & Wirth gallery/restaurant in Bruton, Longleat, and much more. Fantastic walking and cycling country. Adjacent to Copse View alpaca walking as seen on Countryfile! One king bed on the mezzanine level in the Barn. Shower with constant hot water. Private BBQ area Tennis Court Croquet Lawn Clay pigeon shooting (extra cost) We are happy to collect guests from nearby railway station at Gillingham, Dorset (where there is Waitrose/Lidl/Asda). Bear in mind nearest pub would then be 30 mins walk. Beautiful unspoilt countryside - watch the deer and buzzards from the windows - and lots of good pubs nearby. Excellent access to lots of lovely places - Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge, Stourhead, Jurassic Coast. Bed made up with 100% Egyptian cotton linen, towels provided. Gas rings, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine. NB The steps to mezzanine are quite steep. No bath, only a shower. NB There is wifi but being in the country it is not strong enough to download movies etc
  • A wonderful stay and a welcome change of scenery! The setting is absolutely stunning - thank you for the use of your beautiful grounds for a walk and the tennis court! Space was quiet airy light and lovely wood burner. Has everything you need for a getaway to the countryside. Comfy bed, well equipped kitchen, good shower.

  • The barn is a lovely space in a great location and with fabulous facilities. We spent our weekend hiding away from 'Storm Dennis' and the wood burner and full kitchen made all the difference. We'd have no hesitation in recommending to future guests and we'll definitely be returning. Many thanks Cara.

    Shaftesbury, England, United Kingdom

Wise Cottage is a 250 year old cottage with a boutique feel and sweeping views situated in a beautiful village near Shaftesbury, Dorset. The cottage sleeps four, 1 large master bedroom with a super kingsize bed and a small bedroom with adult bunks (plus a guest bed for a fifth guest). Well behaved dogs are welcome! Organic toiletries, bath robes, well equipped kitchen, wood burner, super fast Wifi, garden, beautiful walks straight out of the front door, use of local tennis club.
** Covid 19 update** We are now leaving 24 hours between bookings in order to give the cottage a deep clean between guests. Please leave one night free between bookings, when confirming a booking. Our cleaning fee has unfortunately increased from £35 to £45 due to this. We understand the concern you may have about a holiday now and the closure of pubs and restaurants. What we can say is that most of the wonderful eateries around us are offering a take away service, some of them with free delivery, and so you can enjoy restaurant quality food at home, or eaten in the garden (big table and benches). We have added some of our favourites in the 'other things to note' section. There is a large sitting room with oak dining table and contemporary chairs, a well fitted kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The main bedroom has an upholstered Super kingsize bed with Vi Spring mattress, high quality microfibre duvets and bed linens. The second bedroom has full size bunk beds. Polished wooden floors, Roger Oates runners, sisal flooring and soft Moroccan rugs make up the flooring in the cottage. The bathroom has a pressurised shower and bath. Plenty of towels are provided as well as an organic soaps and shampoo range. The bathroom is situated downstairs opposite the kitchen. The garden is situated up steps from the cottage, it is probably not easily accessed by anyone disabled or infirm. It is a cottage garden, not highly manicured but with wonderful views in every direction. A table and chairs and a barbecue and tongs are also provided. There is a side access to the garden and it is fenced, so will contain a not overly ambitious dog. There is complimentary use of local tennis courts at Pythouse Club, about a two mile drive from the cottage. Please bring your own raquets and balls! Wonderful Pythouse Walled Garden is minutes from the courts for coffees and lunches. The cottage has a Samsung 32" smart TV with all the catch up services as well as Netflix and Amazon, super fast broad band, a small office with desk. Mobile reception is good, but patchy in the downstairs rooms. There is a wood burner and kindling/logs for the first night or two (bags of logs and kindling are sold at the shop a few yards from the cottage), iPod dock, Roberts radio, smart TV, towels, high quality linen and bathrobes. The kitchen is fully equipped with all china and cutlery, pans, casserole dishes, salad bowls, a Nespresso coffee maker (with coffee capsules!) and there is a supply of tea bags, coffee, sugar, olive oil, flour, herbs and salt and pepper to start you off. We always leave a breakfast pack of fresh local bread, home made jam, butter and milk. A folding guest bed can be put up in the sitting room or master bedroom for a fifth person which is fine for a night or two, but unless a young child, it is not ideally suited for five people.
The cottage is set in the beautiful village of East Knoyle (birthplace of Sir Christopher Wren) on the Dorset/Wiltshire border, amid rolling scenery. The village has an award winning community shop (a few yards from the cottage) and an excellent pub, as well as a playground and endless footpaths through fields and woods for dog walking. You will have guest membership of our local tennis club at Pythouse, a couple of miles from the cottage. If you wish to explore the West Country there are few better places to be situated. The Georgian city of Bath is 20 miles away, Salisbury 17 miles, the hilltop town of Shaftesbury with it's famous monastery ruins and Gold Hill is 4 miles and the Jurassic coast an hour's drive. Longleat and Centre Parks is only 8 miles away. There are numerous stately homes (Longleat being the most famous), castles and gardens within easy striking distance, some a couple of miles from the cottage and superb gastro pubs and restaurants nearby. There is plenty of information in the cottage and suggestions of where to visit, where to eat and where to shop. Just an hour away is the New Forest which is great to explore on foot or by bike. There are maps in the house and you can rent bikes at the wonderfully helpful Forest Leisure Cycling in Burley where there are also loads of cafes, pubs & shops. Flying Experiences at Compton Abbas Airfield - from flying in vintage aircraft and driving classic cars to the airfield for champagne lunch... and flying lessons. Dorset Art Weeks: For two weeks every year (Typically end of May & beginning June) Artists all over Dorset open up their homes and studios to visitors to browse their work, learn about their techniques and inspiration and purchase direct from the artists themselves. There are also two extraordinary contemporary galleries with excellent cafes/restaurants nearby - Messums in Tisbury and Hauser and Wirth in Bruton - both definitely worth a visit.

Our modern Eco Pod is set in it's own secluded wildlife garden area, giving a true nature experience with all the comforts for 2 people. Only 5 mins drive from Shaftesbury, Dorset, and 50 minutes from the Jurassic Coast. Superb country walks! It's normally set up with a king size bed. The Pod is tiny. Think of it as a two berth wooden caravan. It really just has the large bed, there is no table on the inside, but a small kitchen area with sink and hob.
The Pod is a small compact space built as an airtight structure that self regulates temperature and therefore is very comfortable. It's ideal for couples, close friends or one parent and child. It features a large bed (1.80m x 2.20) under a sloping ceiling, a small kitchenette with 2 burner hob and sink with hot & cold water. Please note that there is no table inside. There is literally just the bed and kitchenette. The kitchen is equipped with all essentials including kettle and toaster. You will also find Organic English Breakfast Tea, Organic Coffee, sugar, salt and pepper. There is decking on the outside which gets sunshine most of the day (when the sun shines). A few steps up is a Gazebo with a table and 2 chairs. This is a great space to have an al-fresco meal and watch the wildlife around the pond. There is a small cubicle with a compost toilet inside the Pod. Some people have commented that it is too small for a tall person to have the door closed. Please keep this in mind. Guests also have use of the separate unheated shower shed with hot water. Please note that during the Winter and early Spring the shower shed is not operating. In that case guests are welcome to use the shower in the main house. There is a summer house that houses a fridge freezer, a small oven, two camping chairs and space to store luggage or wet clothing/shoes. The Pod sits in it's own part of the garden, with 2 wildlife ponds. This creates a lovely, secluded garden area for our guests. You basically have your own little wildlife patch here. Ducks often visit the pond early in the morning. Look out for deer, badgers and pheasants. Because of the ponds our grounds are not suitable for small children.
The Pod is located in a small hamlet 1.5miles outside Shaftesbury, Dorset on the edge of ancient woodland. This is a quiet area and the most you will hear is the occasional dog barking, lawnmower or strimmer. However, don't be surprised to be woken by birdsong and to hear owls and other creatures at night. The local village store 'Ludwell Store and Postoffice' is approximately 1.5miles away and can be reached by foot, car or bicycle. The nearest pub is half a mile and the nearest supermarket 1.5 miles.
  • Kind hosts helped me out with a bit of olive oil to fry my supper!

  • Really thoughtful space, great for a quick getaway. Our hosts were lovely and very approachable!

    Yem2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The pod is really lovely and relaxing! The bed is really big and I had reservations about the compost toilet but it was actually really good!

    Saskia2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect place to escape into nature, the gorgeous secluded pod was just perfect for our requirements with the added benefit that it was completely eco friendly! We visited Stonehenge and Bath while we were there, only 40 mins and an hour respectively and also took a short trip to Salisbury and Shaftesbury, there is some wonderful culture and history surrounding this area. The pod itself was compact but still completely liveable for the 5 days we were there with a kitchenette in the pod and a fridge and shower just on the other side of the garden. We were most surprised with how warm it was without any heating, especially if you cook in there. The compost toilet was not as scary as we first thought and we got used to it very quickly, as long as your comfortable with hearing the other person going to the loo as it’s inside the pod! All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it if your wanting to completely switch off and be in nature:)

    Jody2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • The pod is in a very secluded part of the property near two ponds. It is a lovely wild garden with lots of natural wildlife. We both had a lovely time and felt very at home at the pod. The pod itself is very clean and well thought out and it feels very cosy to sit there and watch the natural world around you.

    Mary2020-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely compact and bijou studio flat. The studio was light and airy on the top floor. The bathroom had a good shower and was nice and hot and Coral had provided shower stuff (I didn’t look to see what they were as I had my own). The kitchen was small but we were able to cook a proper meal. Tea, coffee and milk etc were provided. The bed was comfortable and we were warm without getting too hot or cold. Thank you

Our hosts were great, friendly and helpful and we didn't need to ask them for anything re the accommodation as they've thought of everthing!😁

Karen was a lovely hostess and nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely be recommending and will be back next September if not before!

  • Fantastic space which is beautifully decorated and situated in the perfect spot to explore Dorset. We really enjoyed walking up Hambledon Hill which is very close and finishing with dinner at one of the local pubs. Karen and Carey were lovely hosts too, full of helpful recommendations (we wouldn't have known about the airfield cafe were it not for them- definitely worth a visit to see small planes up close and personal!) and we enjoyed meeting their very friendly dogs. Would absolutely love to return, it was a perfect bank holiday weekend!

Daisy cottage is located within the grounds of our pub, The Baker Arms, a quintessential Dorset pub at the foot of Hambledon Hill. You can dine at our pub, only a few steps away. The cottage is dog friendly, we just ask that dogs are kept off the furniture, and not left alone for over 2 hours. Please note that the sofa bed is charged at an extra £25 per guest per night.
A cosy 1 bedroom cottage with your own kitchen, shower room and lounge with dining table.
A quintessential Dorset village, perfect for walking.
  • Dog-friendly with an enclosed garden. Cottage was very cosy and quiet despite being at the back of a pub. All the staff were very friendly. We stayed over New Years Eve and saw in the New Year in the pub itself. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Recommend lunch in the pub.

    David2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The little house was very pleasant, clean, quiet. I slept on the sofa bed and that was very comfortable. Also the living room, where the sofa bed is, had a door so I didn’t get disturbed by my aunt who was sleeping in the bedroom moving round in the night. Child Okeford village is quite spread out and has several pubs, so you’ll need to pay attention to the directions.

    Henrietta2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Can't recommend this place more highly. Lovely people, lovely house, lovely pub!

    David2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage, in wonderful friendly village, with amazing village shop, warm croissants with weekend paper after an early walk across the fields with the dog, can't be beaten. Great location for site seeing around that part of Dorset. Poppy 🐾loved playing with Smokey 🐾and the other dogs who visited the pub whilst we were there. Will be sure to come again.

    Christine2019-08-11T00:00:00Z

  • I have never stayed in an Airbnb before. I was quite nervous. I couldn’t have asked for a better home to stay in. Diana was so kind and welcoming . Nothing was too much trouble for her. My room was perfect and cosy. I had everything I could want and need. She really made me feel comfortable with coming and going as I pleased. I immediately felt super comfy which was so great. She is an outstanding host to open her home with that amount of warmth to strangers. She’s for sure the perfect kind of person for doing Airbnb. The location was perfect for me. Staying here meant I could be really close to my children which meant it was so convenient to me. So this was awesome and I’ll for sure book again next time I go to see them. Oh also the amazing dawn chorus I could hear each morning was wonderful not to mention all the Tawny owls hooting everywhere ....beautiful.. So I highly suggest sleeping with the window open so you get to wake up the stunning chorus of the local birds, there is no greater way to wake up in my books! Thank you Diana.

Newly fitted out to a high standard. Kitchenette, wet room with WC, living room/diner and bedroom with double bed, perfect for a couple or lone traveller. Please note ceilings are low on one side of building with kitchen and wet room. The Saxon hill top town is within 15 minutes walking distance with the famous Gold Hill, Abby Ruins and Park Walk with stunning views over the Blackmore Vale. Off road private parking in carport. On main routes in and out of town. Some traffic noise.
Formally a double garage converted into a comfortable self contained living space with everything you’ll need for a pleasurable stay. Private from the main house with covered parking right outside the front door.
We are walking distance from the small but vibrant high street of Shaftesbury. The town has monthly markets and a great fringe festival in the summer months.
  • We had a lovely weekend stay here. The space is clean, cosy, and well kitted out for its size. Only one note I would add is the ceilings are quite low so you might find yourself ducking if you're a giant like myself, should be fine for all normal sized people though! Would recommend the place to others.

Stunning views out over the garden and ridgeway beyond. Great bathroom - especially if you like a lie-downable bath with lovely hot water. Breakfast? Way more than you can eat and all delicious. The cottage that we believe was built in 1780. Set in the beautiful Dorset countryside. Plenty of local walks, to check out our stunning countryside. We are a 10 minute walk to the North Dorset Trailway. Unfortunately there is no pub in the village, we are a 15-20 minute walk to the nearest pub The White Horse in Stourpaine (highly recommend). Conveniently situated for Blandford Camp and the Royal signals museum, the Great Dorset Steam Fair and just a stones throw away from Bryanston School.
The room is on the ground floor, the cottage used to be the local village shop. Your room is where the shop front was situated. The room is very cosy with your own en-suite shower, toilet and basin. There is a little wardrobe. Window is rather low, we have provided a blackout blind and curtains. There is a fan fixed to the wall for the more muggy evenings.
We are a tiny village, set in the beautiful rolling Dorset countryside. We are a friendly bunch, especially if you have a pooch or 2. There are some amazing walks right on our doorstep and the North Dorset Trailway within walking/cycling distance. If you have a National Trust membership there is so much to do in the area, we especially like Corfe Castle, Stourhead and Kingston Lacy.
  • A delightful find. Everything you would want and exceptional value. A beautiful part of the country and extremely lovely helpful hosts.

  • A lovely clean cosy room in a family home full of nice touches (plentiful toiletries, water by bed, phone chargers etc). Tea and coffee always available and a plentiful breakfast. The room and dining area situated on one 'side' of the house with own entrance so private with as little or much interaction with the hosts as you wanted. Treena and Aubrey (and Spud, the cool dog) were lovely and friendly, very helpful even offering us a lift to our local party venue. Thankyou

  • Dan & Cindy’s Garden Room is a beautiful little piece of heaven. We can thoroughly recommend staying there. Dan and Cindy go well beyond to help, even to the point of providing lactose free milk without me actually asking for it because they heard I was lactose intolerant. It was a lovely touch. The whole place is spotless, warm and friendly. Enjoy your stay. Dave & Jenny from the Isle of Man.

  • Always a pleasure to stay at Debs! A home away from home. Highly recommend!

    Linsay2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • I would highly recommend Deb's place. Always a warm welcome, the property is lovely, cosy and unusual as a converted village hall in a great location. Plus Deb's was an attentive host and everything you need is well catered for.

  • Second time staying at Debs. Always a pleasure staying there, great host. Highly recommend!!

    Linsay2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Debs was such a wonderful host though we didn't see each other much due to my work schedule. Her home is beautiful and uniquely decorated! The bed was so comfortable!! Highly recommend and I would definitely return if I'm ever in the area. Many thanks again Debs

    Linsay2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay in Debs house We definitely come back

    Mounir2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Village Hall was up there with our best ever Airbnb stays. Debs made us feel so welcome, and her home was kitted out with all that we needed for our 14 month old baby. The house is peaceful and characterful, and in a lovely village. Debs' tips for the area were helpful, and it was great spending time chatting to her. We'd love to return in the future.

    LAurence2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We unfortunately didn't get to meet Deb's on our visit, the photo's don't do her home justice, she left us to our own devices, which was great but no instructions on how to use the AGA lol. Had a fantastic time and that bed is to die for, this was our first time using airb&b and we weren't disappointed

  • Ruth place was awsome, she was really friendly. My little dog was welcome to roam around the house. The room was amazing - big, warm, comfy bed and great bathroom. Breakfast was great. Nice quiet location. Would definitely recommend.

    Nina2018-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed with Ruth and the team (two dogs) for the long term. She is so welcoming, the rooms are gorgeous, the pooches are great entertainment and loveable (also listen to their momma and well behaved if you're not keen on dogs), Ruth is a queen in the kitchen and had many chats in the evening with her over a gin or two in the recliner by the fire watching The Chase! There's plenty available in the kitchen for tea/coffee breakfast, room for parking and Ruth is always available for a chat but also gives you your privacy if you prefer (for a nap in my case!). Highly recommended and hopefully see her in the new year!

Beautiful garden, pets and children welcome, and suitable for less able. Delicious breakfasts & perfect for sightseeing & walking in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.
Lawn Cottage is a charming 18th Century cottage in the quiet village of Stour Row, a couple of miles outside Shaftesbury. Set in a delightful English cottage garden looking out over the fields and you can walk from the garden up to Duncliffe Wood . The pretty en-suite bedrooms have their own access, which makes it suitable for the less-able. Guests also have access to the country kitchen, dining room and sitting room. Shaftesbury is a charming market town perched on the highest hill in Dorset. Filled with lovely little shops, a weekend antiques market, a couple of delis, some old fashioned pubs, and some excellent little restaurants. The 12th Century abbey, with its February Snowdrop festival, is worth a visit and for Tess of the d'Urbevilles enthusiasts the Thomas Hardy Trail that leads from the centre of Shaftesbury to his cottage (past the front door of Lawn Cottage). The cottage sits in the Blackmore Vale, one of the prettiest parts of Dorset, and is filled with wonderful, peaceful walks - including a good walk from the backdoor up to the top of Duncliffe Hill where you can see for miles around. Not far away are several beautiful National Trust sites including: the flowery expanse of Fontmell and Melbury Downs and the Iron Age fort at Hambledon Hill. For something a little more cultured, the Palladian splendour of Stourhead is just eight miles away.

  • This is one of the very best BNB stopovers I have had; wonderful, courteous hospitality and a gorgeous room/ shepherd’s hut. Very restful, quiet, clean, warm space with a proper BNB breakfast that started the day perfectly. Much recommended.

  • What a fantastic stay I had. Everywhere was spotless, the bed was very comfortable and June cooked a lovely breakfast. Thank you so much, I will be back.

  • June is a lovely host with many good advices and a wonderful little cottage. We had a really good time and felt very welcome.

    Matthias2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • June is definitely a super host - it was like staying the week-end with a friend. She achieves a wonderful combination of efficient professionalism and exceptional personal attention. She was very helpful with local information and on our first evening even offered to cook supper for us if we were too late to eat in the pub. The house is very pretty and in beautiful countryside, with a comfortable bedroom and a nice bathroom with lovely thick white towels. Breakfast was delicious, and served in a delightful room. If our dog could write a review he would say what a great time he had too - a garden and a big field to run around in with his new friend Lottie. To summarise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and highly recommend Lawn Cottage.

A lovely personality, Sarah is a wonderfully kind and considerate host, someone who clearly enjoys meeting new people, and goes that extra mile to ensure guest comfort and satisfaction. The accommodations are delightfully cosy in a warm, beautifully decorated charming cottage - with quite a fascinating history of its own, incidentally(!); the bed super comfy, the dog friendly atmosphere relaxing & congenial. • We were so happy with our little stay at Katie and Graham's. They were so responsive to messages, directed us in when we got lost in the dark, spared some bread for us to have with the eggs they kindly provided. Their cottage is so cosy and comfy, everything you need is there. They were very friendly as well. The location was lovely, the village itself gorgeous and some beautiful walks right on the door step, we also found a lovely farm shop a 10 minute drive away called the Udder Farm shop which was fabulous. The village shop was also very well stocked and the owner very friendly. It was just what we needed and wouldnt hesitate to go back next time we need a weekend away from it all.

    Emma2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location tucked away in a quaint Dorset village. All the communication ahead of our stay was spot on and we were greeted by Graham when we arrived. The place was very well kitted out and there were some lovely touches on arrival including fresh local milk and eggs, homemade cakes and a bottle of fizz chilling in the fridge which was a lovely surprise. The bed was big and super comfortable and the bathroom is very clean, modern and toasty warm with its under floor heating. Just a couple of minutes walk down the lane is the local pub/restaurant which serves really excellent food. Would recommend this cottage if you want a base to explore the local area. Great value for money! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The Old Stables is situated in a quiet location in the pretty village of Child Okeford. Ideal for exploring Dorset and interesting walks on the doorstep. There is a well stocked shop with post office and cafe area, an organic farm shop & cafe, and two pubs. The well equipped cottage has ample parking, and south facing terrace with private garden. Accommodation comprises 2 bedrooms, 1 with double bed, 1 with 2 x 2'6" single beds, kitchen, sitting room, study/dining room, bathroom & cloakroom.
  • Clean, quiet and well laid out. The Old Stables were a perfect summer getaway for our family, and a great base to explore Dorset delights including Studland Bay, Monkey World, Kingston Lacy & the lido in Shaftesbury. The village is sweet and the shop, which is walking distance, sells great bread, jammy doughnuts and coffee, as well as useful things! Great property, great location.

    Hannah2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at The Old Stables. It is a beautiful, calm place with a relaxing atmosphere and every facility needed for a comfortable stay. I was expecting it to be lovely as the photos online looked so nice, so I was very pleased when we arrived to see that my initial impression from the photos was correct. What I had not banked on were all the thoughtful little touches which made it so welcoming, The garden is beautiful. Although there were only two of us, I can see that children would have a great time exploring and playing here. Suffice to say, we were thrilled with every aspect of the cottage, the garden and location. It was brilliant for exploring Dorset and we had some top-class walks and excursions which we hope to continue next time we visit.

  • We had a great holiday at Sue"s house in Child Okeford. If you like a quiet holiday in a small place, this is the place to be. Lovely cottage and beautiful garden! Communication is good.

  • The stables has everything you could need in a lovely quiet position, surrounded by beautiful gardens in a great village with two pubs an excellent shop.

    Sherry2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • We found the property to be a tranquil retreat set in a lovely village close to amenities. Could not be more comfortable. Lovely garden. Everything worked just fine. Would certainly stay there again but as we have just bought in the village it may be we are recommending it to friends and family during our building works!

    Garry2018-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • As we came into the cottage our first feeling was very positive because it's look better in reality than with the photos ! This cottage is big enough for a four family people, it has all what you need and it is well equiped. It is also very clean, everything works perfect, we really felt like at home and we would stay longer ! Sue was not in at the moment and we get a warm welcome from Lesley who explain us all what we needed to know. The cottage is really not far from the post office/store where you can buy quiet everything you need like good bread for example, and not far from a good pub. You can go to both by feet. We have just one regret, the weather was not good enough to enjoy as much as we wanted the very lovely garden, this one is really beautiful and participate to the charm of this cottage. Child Okeford is also well placed to enjoy and visit many things from Dorset. I really recommend this cottage, Philippe from France.

  • Dear Sue, Thank you for sharing your absolutely beautiful garden and lovely renovated 'Old Stables'. It is truly a home away from home, which made our stay very comfortable and relaxing. Lesley, who helps Susan with the property, greeted us on arrival and helped us settle in. She was very welcoming and helpful. We had such beautiful weather we couldn't bring ourselves to leave the magical garden that you have created with its exquisite scents and blooms. There are some lovely walks around the village and we ventured up Hambledon Hill, the views were breathtaking. We enjoyed our stay immensely and would recommend this to anyone who wants some peace and quiet, and of course be surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Cosy stay in 15th Century Pub, including skittle alley (a local Dorset tradition) and ample storage for parking and cycles. In the middle of a quaint historic village, close to many cycle routes and walking paths. Breakfast with Tea & Coffee available on request.
The space is located on the upper floor of a traditional 15th Century Pub. The flat is above the village free house pub, with local beers and home cooked food available after a long day of walking, climbing or cycling! Ample storage space for all bikes and any additional gear all fully locked and secured. Both the skittle alley and darts board are available for use during your stay.
The village of Marnhull is set in the middle of The Blackmore Vale (hence the name!); Thomas Hardy Country. Close to Longleat, Monkey World, the Jurassic coast, the air fleet museum, fishing on the lakes at Todber Manor and climbing at Portland and Cheddar Gorge. Close to market towns of Shaftesbury, Blandford and Sherborne. The village also has many beautiful walks through the Vale.

  • I had the most fun at Julia’s dad’s fabulous pub/inn. The hospitality was unparalleled and everyone was extremely friendly. The rooms are as you would expect from an oldy worldy pub. No thrills but clean and cosy and the single bed very comfortable. The bathroom is clean and airy. Altogether a really great place to stay and sample the atmosphere and a very fine Welsh single malt. Mark makes a great coffee even at 6am!!! Wondrous place.

We welcome you to our Snugg Hut. (as named by our youngest Daughter) A Cosy Hut positioned within our garden with parking close by. Stunning views overlooking the countryside. Set within it's own space, a self contained Hut with everything you should need for a comfortable stay. Kitchen area, Double "pull out" bed and clean linen, Toilet and Shower with clean towels. We offer a BBQ with Charcoal and lighters for guests who like to enjoy outdoor cooking.
Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, within the North Dorset Downs, the Hut itself is positioned within our garden, over looking the countryside with beautiful views & stunning sun sets in the evening & neighbouring cows occasionally. Enjoy rural walks with breath taking views, there is a village pub within walking distance serving delicious home cooked food. Blandford is a 5 minute drive & has several supermarkets & takeaways, Resturants & Bars. Poole & Bournemouth with their beaches are only a 30 - 45 minute drive away. Dorchester Town 30 minutes. The Purbecks are again a 30 - 40 minute drive away & has stunning views & places to visit...Corfe Castle, Swanage, Lulworth but to name a few.
Located in a Village in North Dorset within walking distance to the local Pub & only a short drive to the local Town.
  • We booked the Snugg Hut as a last minute getaway for my wife's birthday. Kirsty, Nick and family were lovely hosts and were friendly and very welcoming. Although we were there on a freezing night, the Snugg Hut lived up to its name and was toasty warm. It was also deceptively spacious, beautifully decorated and had everything we needed while we were there. We also recommend the local village pub, The Crown, which offered a very friendly welcome with extremely good value and high quality beer and food. Overall we'd totally recommend this place and we are planning to return again for a longer stay in the summer so we can have more time to enjoy the beautiful countryside surround this property. One hint for anyone staying in winter is to bring slippers because although the hut is beautifully warm, the floor, because of the nature of property, is quite cold. (This is not a criticism of a fabulous place)

  • Kirsty’s place is the perfect for a cosy getaway. Kirsty was a fantastic host, she was very responsive and accommodating to our arrival time. The Snugg Hut was extremely cosy and warm, despite being December and has all you need for some time away, including tea and coffee. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and had a great nights sleep on the comfy bed. There is also a pub within walking distance which is dog friendly. The Snugg Hut is definitely value for money and a fantastic place to stay and explore the surrounding areas.

Located in a quiet cul-de-sac in the picturesque Dorset village of Okeford Fitzpaine. Great for walks and plenty of local attractions. The village has a shop and a friendly pub within walking distance.
The house is located in a very quiet cul-de-sac amongst 10 other properties. The neighbourhood is very friendly and more than willing to help if anything is required
  • Julie was such a lovely host and her home was wonderful.

  • Julie met us and made sure we had everything we might need. This included some nice snack surprises in our room and a continental breakfast with plenty to eat and choose. The house is modernly furnished and spotlessly clean and comfortable. An excellent Air BnB

Recently converted former hay barn in farm courtyard in deepest North Dorset far from the madding crowds.
An extremely comfortable base from which to explore all that Dorset and Wiltshire have to offer. We are midway between the market towns of Shaftesbury (historic Gold Hill) and Sturminster Newton. Accommodation is light, airy and newly decorated. The rear windows of the property look across the owner's organic vegetable gardens and glasshouse. There is no light pollution, enabling you to see the stars at night and expansive daytime views. No traffic noise disturbs this tranquility as Swallows Barn is at the end of a ‘No Through’ Lane, together with the owner’s farmhouse. The nearest village stores and pubs are 3 miles away in Child Okeford and Iwerne Minster. Stonehenge, Longleat, Stourhead, the spectacularJurassic coast and many National Trust properties are all within very easy reach. Would suit couple who enjoy a quiet night's sleep after a busy day exploring. Good base from which to cycle quiet backwaters, or walk the abundant footpaths.
We like to share our special little corner of Dorset with guests who wish to experience peace and tranquility, away from any traffic noise and neighbours! We are very rural though so please don’t expect convenience stores, public transport or satellite TV but our WiFi is fast! Turn off your gadgets and enjoy the surrounding nature!

Double bedroom, overlooking garden to the west. Short walk to Gillingham Town centre, where there is an Asda and Waitrose plus the train station, on the London to Exeter line. Wincanton (10), Salisbury (26), Shaftesbury (6), Sherborne (15), Poole (31) and Stonehenge (26) are all close by.
  • Simons place is conveniently located, just a 20 min walk to Gillingham station, opposite a pub and a co op a short walk away. It was an ideal place to stay while I was attending a friends wedding nearby, much more reasonable then the local hotels. Thank you.

  • The host was welcoming and the room was clean and comfortable. The Dolphin pub opposite was a very nice and convenient venue for my evening meal.
