Places to stay in Bothwell

Places to stay in Bothwell
A humble heritage listed cottage built with convict bricks in the mid 1800s. Two fireplaces keep the cottage warm during the cold winters experienced on the Central Highlands. The house has been restored with all modern amenities and carefully and thoughtfully curated with a diverse collection of vintage and antique pieces which speak to the varied history of the cottage. Just 90 minutes from Launceston and 1 hour from Hobart, Bothwell is the perfect location from which to explore.
Cross the sandstone verandah and enter through the original front door. Step into the cosy living room with combustion stove, pour a whisky and settle into the comfy leather sofa. The master bedroom is to the left with an open fire and antique bed. To the rear is the kitchen and dining room. The bathroom has a restored clawfoot bath for you to luxuriate in. There is plenty of electric heating for the colder months. Through the rear door is a huge paved area and yard with outdoor seating to enjoy the warmer days. The combustion stove and open fireplace in the bedroom can be used if you're knowledgeable about their use. Wood for the fireplaces is supplied and can be found in the wood shed out the back. Wifi is available but there is no television. Please note that there is no dishwasher or microwave. There are no laundry facilities available. Bothwell has limited fresh food or grocery stores. I advise purchasing fresh fruit, vegetables and groceries before you arrive. I can recommend Hill Street Grocers in Hobart.
Bothwell is in Tasmania's beautiful central highlands. It was settled by farmers in the 1820s and still has a distinctive colonial character and old-world atmosphere today. Bothwell is a charming quintessential Aussie town, full of character. Although not pretty it is authentic, a true representation of of the characters who reside here. More than 50 buildings in Bothwell are heritage-listed for their architectural and historical value, so take a stroll along the wide streets and enjoy the details of built treasures that range from simple stone cottages to grand, elegant churches. For those interested in golf, Bothwell is home to one of the oldest golf courses in Australia at Ratho. Laid in the mid-1830s, the course has square putting greens and fairways maintained by grazing sheep. You can even play a round with traditional hickory clubs. Locals and visitors also come to the nearby lakes, rivers and reserves to fly fish for the elusive brown trout and hunt for game. There are world famous whisky distilleries for those who like a nibble and a tipple, too. Walk through the lovey village green and onto Sealys for a delicious morning tea or lunch. I recommend purchasing your fresh food and groceries before arriving as there is limited fresh supplies in Bothwell.
  • Communication was great. A lovely old home which has some fabulous antique furniture. I actually wished it was cold enough for a fire. Comfy bed with scrummy warm sheets. Everything spotlessly clean.

  • Not only was the Butcher's Cottage the most adorable place, but Vanessa was one of the best hostesses we've encountered. She was more than helpful from before the beginning to after the end of our stay. Bothwell is a very rural town but the perfect place to be away from the buzz of Hobart and a great location to get to the hikes which is why we're in Tasmania. We couldn't recommend this place more.

  • A very warm and welcoming place to spend the night. We noted and appreciated the love and care that has inspired the presentation of this property. This property offers an authentic taste of times gone by. The bath was fabulous and the house was kept cosy with open fire places We appreciated Vanessa’s personal touches and generosity in sharing her space with us... and all the resident rabbits !

  • My partner and I LOVED our stay at Clare’s place. Great location with amazing views. Great location.

    Georgia2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great hideaway from the city! There was a little noise from the highway but was totally made up for by the beautiful view down the green fields and the sea! Sitting on the porch with the beautifully designed accordian glass doors open and a steaming glass of hot tea was the best experience ever! If only we can cook our meals in the pod, and we will hide away in the vanilla pod forever :) the luxurious compost toilet was also an interesting experience for us!

  • We loved our stay at the little pod on the hill. It was so peaceful and the views were great. Close enough to Hobart, lots of wildlife around and very quiet to recharge those batteries. Very cosy place and we’d definitely stay again.

  • A beautiful home, nestled near Hobart in the hills. It feels like a beautiful farm stay, but still so close to the city. It was cold weather when we visited, but we arrived to a warm, heated home and wonderful views. Will absolutely be back!

When in Oatlands stay in an authentic Georgian sandstone cottage to really feel the part. Just minutes walk from Callington Mill, and Lake Dulverton, this heritage listed 1830's home offers an opportunity to imagine early Tasmanian life without sacrificing contemporary comforts. It is the perfect location from which to experience the rural town of Oatlands, explore the restored buildings of the former military precinct; and venture further afield to the heritage highlights of the Midlands.
Imagine carved sandstone blocks, hand made bricks and soft ambience, this Georgian beauty in the Oatlands Heritage Precinct took me 2 years to renovate and restore. There are many layers of history to this early Tasmanian home and I have enjoyed creating the latest one. It's a quiet and contemplative space providing a window into a very different world and simpler lifestyle. The name Aviemore is inspired from the Scottish highlands, both in terms of my ancestral connections, and the images of Scotland that Oatlands and surrounding landscapes invokes. I am hoping my guests enjoy staying at Aviemore as much as I do.
Aviemore is centred within one of the best preserved colonial village streetscapes in Tasmania. Callington Mill, the Lake Frederick Inn and Cantwell's Store are some of the lovely properties neighbouring Aviemore. Just around the corner is the serene Lake Dulverton and surrounding rural landscape. Lake Dulverton is home to a thriving population of birds, including migratory species. In terms of food and coffee, the wonderful Pancake and Crepe Shop is just 2 minutes walk away.
  • Great Location, Beautifully renovated. Very welcoming and offer local advice!

    Phil2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Historic, cosy and comfortable stay with all of the mod cons (kitchen and bathroom). We enjoyed lighting a fire in the loungeroom with a plentiful supply of kindling, paper and timber. Aviemore was a wonderful introduction to Tasmania for one of our party's first visit to Tassie and proved a highlight during our roadtrip. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here .... a very authentic historic experience, in a lovely historic town. Come prepared for not many options eating-wise mid week. We were able to enjoy an early pub meal in Richmond before arriving in Oatlands.

    Vicki2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The house is very cosy and full of History, it is also in the nicest, and most scenic part of the town

    Tyson2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Graham’s place. Such a sweet cottage feel - old and new together. You could feel the history in the original part of the cottage. We had a comfortable night’s stay, room enough for the six of us, and had a nice walk exploring around Oatlands. There were some basics in the kitchen for breakfast and even some pasta and sauce for dinner if you were in a pinch (it’s a small town, and not much in terms of restaurants to choose from that are open evenings earlier on in the week... closer to the weekends more things are open in the evenings!) All in all, definitely a recommended place to stay to really feel a part of Oatlands’ history!

    Chantal2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to stay in Oatlands. A great mix of heritage (lounge and bedrooms) and modern (kitchen and bathroom). Plenty of extra touches made us feel welcome and instantly comfortable. A great location on the Main Street close to everything you could need.

  • We had a very pleasant stay here, the house was welcoming and well equipped. We will choose this house in the future if given the opportunity.

Oatlands has the largest collection of sandstone buildings in a village setting in Australia. The town's authentic colonial character is reflected in 87 original sandstone buildings along the town's main street. Oatlands is one of Tasmania's oldest settlements and was named by Governor Macquarie after an English town in the county of Surrey in 1821. It was developed as a military base for the control and management of convicts because of its central location between Hobart and Launceston. Convicts were assigned to nearby farms and properties, and also worked on public buildings, roads and bridges. Some of the more significant buildings include the Oatlands Gaol (1835) which offer evening ghost walks for the brave, Commissariat's Store and Watch House (1830s) and Officers' Quarters (1830s). The Callington Mill (1837) is the only working example of a Lincolnshire windmill in Australia. Oatlands Post Office opened on 1 June 1832. Much of the Black War (early settlers against local aborigines) took place in the surrounding districts, and Oatlands was also the home of the ex-convict Solomon Blay, Tasmania's most feared hangman. There are a number of unique landmarks in Oatlands, including the Callington Mill and St Pauls' Church. The mill was built in 1837 and was restored to working order during June/July 2010, and the Catholic Church was designed by Augustus Welby Pugin, the father of Gothic Revival architecture. For some years after 1848, Oatlands was the place of exile of the Irish nationalist leader Kevin Izod O'Doherty, where his stone cottage still stands. A railway connected Oatlands with Parattah Junction, on the main Hobart to Launceston line. The railway opened on 13 May 1885 and it closed on 10 June 1949. Oatlands was generally a relatively prosperous town in the 20th century but by the 1990s the Tasmanian economy slump, the highway bypass and a Tasmanian Midlands rural drought had a very negative effect on the town. Much of Tasmania's economic renewal, like the highway, has bypassed Oatlands, along with Ross, Tunbridge, Kempton and Pontville, which today is a lot quieter than it used to be. The residents are attempting to grow the town once more by making it a peaceful local centre with a tourist friendly image. The Oatlands Court House is an historic Georgian building in Oatlands. Built by convict labour in 1829, the Oatlands Court House is the oldest supreme court house in rural Australia and the oldest building in Oatlands. This fine example of a Georgian public building was originally constructed as a combined Chapel and Police Office. It was purchased by the National Trust in 1977. Oatlands has the largest collection of sandstone buildings in a village setting in Australia. The town’s authentic colonial character is reflected in 87 original sandstone buildings along the town’s main street. Some of the more significant buildings include the Oatlands gaol (1835), Commissariat’s store and watch house (1830s) and officers’ quarters (1830s). The Callington Mill (1837) is the only working example of a Lincolnshire windmill in Australia.
  • Highly recommend a stay at Oatlands Manor for a real Tasmanian experience. Great hosts, cosy cottage and historic buildings.

  • Leslea’s beautifully restored sandstone cottage was a fantastic place to unwind after some of our more strenuous hiking adventures in Tasmania. It is an extremely comfortable cottage - perfect for a couple. We stopped in town to pick up a couple of pies for dinner, then used the oven in the cottage to heat them up - a real treat!

    Sandy2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Such a gorgeous little cottage, complete with lovely extra touches. Leslea was so lovely to us and we loved chatting with her!

    Kevin & Hannah2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Leslea’s place in the Oatlands was absolutely fantastic! Not only is the cottage the cutest and has the best amenities, but the history was so fascinating. You will not be disappointed. Can’t wait to be back!

    Jennifer2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning property housing the most magnificent heritage cottages I've ever seen. All the love and hard work poured into these beautiful homes is really evident. I spent hours admiring all the features and decor, it's like being transported back to 1856. Truly amazing and a credit to the hosts who have just excelled at what they have created. All the comforts are top notch with the snuggliest fireplace, couch, bath & bed. So many extras too! An array of wonderful snacks & beverages, breakfast is even provided! Views of the perfectly manicured gardens make for the most relaxing afternoon & evening watching the sunset. I honestly cannot rave about this property any more. It deserves a magazine feature! Simply incredible.

  • Stunning place, great accommodation with good value of money. Lovely host too who sharing lots of the stories of the building to us.

    Cherry2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Leslea was generous host in all ways. She met us upon arrival, gave us a tour and very informative and interesting history of the property. We stayed in Rose Cottage which was so charming. Very old world sandstone, antique furniture and fittings, plenty of firewood and loads of supplies along with fresh eggs and fresh fruit salad. The cottage is surrounded by green lawns with views that are all encompassing. A little way off the highway the property is easy to find thanks to clear signage and once arrived there is only the sound of nature to interrupt the quiet. A visit won't disappoint. Thanks Leslea.

  • Leslea was an amazing host, taking the time to greet us on arrival and tell us a little about the history of the beautiful property and each of the cottages. We stayed in the Rose Cottage, which was so wonderfully restored, with the gorgeous wood and original stone walls shining throughout, and thoughtfully selected antiques scattered all over making it feel like we’d stepped back in time (in the best possible way). Thankyou for having us and for such a lovely experience!

This unique property was built as the town's general store in 1837. It has been recently refurbished as a 2-bedroom cottage with an eclectic blend of heritage charm and modern comfort. Bothwell is the gateway to Tasmania's central highlands.
The character of the exterior of the 1837 shop and cottage opens up to a bright and airy space with a blend of old and new. Hand made brick walls, pit-sawn timber floors and the original shop shelving are mixed with a modern kitchen and bathroom and high quality beds and linen to make your stay in this heritage building as comfortable as possible.
Bothwell is the gateway to Tasmania's beautiful central highlands. Attractions nearby are the Australasian Golf Museum, Ratho Golf Course and the Nant Distillery. World-class flyfishing lakes are also nearby. The town has abundant heritage buildings, a hotel, bakery, general store, post office and cafes. We are across the road from a park with a fenced playground for children. Please note that most food places in the town close at 7-8pm, so if you are arriving after 7 you will need to self-cater (consequently the kitchen is well equipped for cooking your own meals).
  • We booked the same day as our stay and Brad was quick to communicate and sort it out. House is amazing, great history and Bothwell a beautiful location.

    Ty2018-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place, Brad has done the place up nicely whilst retaining historical features. He was easy to communicate with and I would definitely recommend this Airbnb. If you like good food I would stock up before visiting as local shops are very basic, but obviously do support the local economy. The pub is worth a visit it reminds me of pubs in the highlands of Scotland but the times they serve food seems pretty sporadic. The area is remote but that’s the amazing thing about it. Enjoy !

    Marcus2018-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really charming cottage and a great place to stay. It comes with all the quirks that something built in the 1830's would however has all the modern conveniences. It was easy to find and centrally located. The kitchen was well equipped and easy to use. As other people have mentioned the bed is almost too comfortable to get out of.

    Meg2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • A very peaceful relaxing place to stay. Bed very comfy and a special ambience about this fabulous old Storekeepers House.

    Annie2017-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Brad was the consummate host. He communicated really well - promptly and frequently. His thoughtfulness in ensuring the fire was started before we arrived was a lovely touch. He was also kind enough to upgrade us to the neighbouring home when there was a double up. The Storekeepers House where we stayed was charming and well appointed. We enjoyed our short stay there. I am happy to recommend Brad as a host who cares.

    Barry2017-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous little cottage, wonderfully fitted out with all sorts of curios. The bed in the main/bigger bedroom was exceedingly comfortable. The cottage was cold when we first arrived, being an older building, but very quickly warmed with the heat pump. A great place to stay if visiting Bothwell.

    Briony2017-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was as listed, very mice and cosy. We had a problem with the electricity, which Brad attended to in a timely manner. I would recommend staying here.

    Tracey2016-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Brad's place was so cute, very clean and full of character. We loved the old world charm but with modern comfortable furniture. A great place to stay if you're passing through Bothwell.

  • You cannot miss this great house. It was a fantastic experience that look star and warribies at night and feed the alpaca in the morning. Very interesting question. At first I thought it was a humble job, but in fact it was very well-equipped, clean and comfortable. There are invincible stars and kangaroos at night. During the day, you can feed cows and grass mud stallions and push them.

  • My partner and I were positively surprised by how amazing this Airbnb is. James really puts a lot of effort and consideration into it which makes it a very warm and welcoming experience. For example he provided us with eggs from his chickens or vegetables from his garden. It's definitely one of my favorite places I've ever stayed in so I can recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from the busyness of cities! Cheers

We also had a great time hanging out with the alpacas. I wish we could have stayed longer!

  • Really lovely apartment and very easy check in. Lovely to wake up to the smell of fresh bread from the cafe downstairs. The hosts were so helpful when my friend forgot some items! Could not recommend highly enough

  • What a good stay at Hamilton ! Probably most of people just go through this tiny town located in heart of the Highlands, Tasmania. If so, they’ll miss one of the best address in the country : the sympathic Wild Fennel Cafe. Not only Maree and Michael are very gentle and smiling people, but Michael is a fantastic cook ! He’s preparing all meals and sweets himself, with excellent ingredients and… great talent ! Never eaten a so succulent lamb before ! And what a chocolate and almonds+figues cake ! We do recommand this AirB&B 200% !

    Pascal2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation and cafe were a haven on a bike ride through Hamilton. Maree was such a super host and the cafe breakfast was super (best fruit bread ever!)

  • A lovely space, perfect for a short stay

    Sarah2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • Very good value for money, considering there were three bedrooms available to us. Easy check-in process. The milk and bread that was left for us were both delicious. We had breakfast in the cafe downstairs before leaving and it was the best pie I’ve had in a long time.

  • This is a great place for groups looking to stay. Very clean, many things are provided and wifi is strong

  • I was looking for an overnight stay on my way from the Tasman Peninsula to Strachan through the Cradle Mountain National Park. The café with the rooms above is conveniently located on the way on the main road of Hamilton. I didn't meet the host but she sent me an email with accurate instructions how to get into the building (key in lock). There were a selection of different shower gels in the bathroom which I liked very much. Also the fridge was on which was good to put my food in I bought for the road trip.

The place is a private bungalow with en-suite and small fridge and kettle. It has everything you need to feel at home, and Trish was there close by if I needed anything. All the friendly interactions gave the place a home-away-from-home vibe. It was lovely!

Handy to both airport & CBD in Howrah, a beautiful beachside suburb of Hobart. Very comfy & clean queen bedroom with ensuite, lounge/dining area with flat screen TV and kitchenette concealed behind bi-fold doors. Huge windows with beautiful views. This listing is half of a house that has been divided into two separate apartments. Even though we live in the back half and are very considerate towards guests, at times there is some transfer of sound in the living area.
Our front apartment is basically half of our house, with us living in the other area. The front apartment includes a queen bedroom with ensuite, and lounge/dining/kitchenette area which are all exclusively yours. Also included is an intimate deck at the front of the property where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful views.
We are only a 15-20min easy drive from Hobart Airport, ideal for late arrivals or early departures. Howrah is a beautiful beachside suburb on the eastern shore of Hobart, 10 minute drive from Hobart CBD. 10 minute walk to Little Howrah Beach (great coffee over the road at Howrah Point Store), about 5km from Bellerive Oval (cricket, football), supermarket 1.5 km, Howrah Fruit & Veg 1km away. 10 min drive to CBD. Historic Richmond is a 15 min drive away, 1 hour 15 min from Port Arthur.

    Sophie2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at Frank and Yvonne's with my mum for two nights while visiting from Melbourne. The cottage was brilliantly located just up the road from the city centre. The space itself is private, quiet, comfortable and well appointed. Nice hot shower, and beautiful outdoor space. Certainly had all the character and charm as promised!

    Natalie2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Unfortunately, I didn't stay long enough to enjoy the full suite of delights of Frank's place... private outdoor bath, selection of books, coffee machine and outside dining. I appreciated the modern and quirky touches set in an older cottage. For example, the bathroom had features that I might expect in a higher-end hotel. The cottage was small yet a long way off being cramped. I liked being able to watch the world go by out the front while also being able to remove myself from the hustle of traffic by stepping into the back garden. All up, my time at your home was pleasant, relaxed and delightfully comfortable.

    Julia2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • It’s like living in a piece of artwork for a few nights. Enjoyed the beautiful backyard with a little yoga session. Living room and the entire space is just a piece of artwork. The amenities preparation is very well equipped too. We managed to have a quick meet and greet with Frank during check out time which is great. It’s like meeting the artist. Highly recommend and we will be back for sure.

  • Greg and Patricia are super hosts for all reasons. Our late check-in was not a problem at all for them. Greg showed us to the cottage, lit up the old style wood fire which helped us to have sound sleep in this beautiful cosy cottage with comfortable beds and nice shower. We woke up to a nice bush land view that the property sits on. Staying at Bridge house was the perfect starting point to explore Mt. Field National Park. Greg's tips helped us explore more flora and fauna in the National Park. Home made bread and other breakfast options and a large book collection are part of this couple's great hospitality. Top notch. Thanks Greg & Patricia!

The bed is so comfortable! We enjoyed driving around the area with the beautiful mountain landscape. At night you can see all the stars in the sky, it is beautiful. It is well located for day trips including Richmond, nearby wineries, distilleries and for getting to the CBD. We particularly loved learning about the farm, meeting Belinda and Richard as well as Heston. What an amazing stay!

  • The accommodation at Weston Farm is amazing. Comfy, cosy everything you need is there. Belinda is a wonderful host and went out of her way to make our stay the best we have had in Tasmania. Visit her cafe in Hobart for a good cup of coffee and cake. Would love to visit again.

    Teresa2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Belinda’s place is like something you’d see in a Better Homes & Gardens magazine... a country house dream with gorgeous modern touches. Clean and so homely, this place had everything we needed. Nicely secluded in location but a close distance to the main town. Highly recommended if you want that fancy farm stay experience! Thank you again Belinda!

The magnificent 1832 log cabin that has been restored since then in 2005 and is now available to be booked out by the public. The log cabin has amazing views of rushy lagoon and the working farm. You can sit back by the fire and enjoy the view or even lay back in the bath and enjoy the peace and quiet. There is also a private veranda, hot water, shower, toilets, bath, washing machine and electric blankets. The log cabin can sleep up to 7 people if sharing or 5 singles.
  • If you love rustic history set in country setting this is a beautiful place to stay. I loved reading about the history of the 1832 cottage and sitting in front of the fireplace at night. Debbielee was a great host.

  • an amazing cottage. a real walk back in time...holds a real warm honesty about it :-)

    Ro2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What an authentic experience of life in the 1800's. The cottage is so well done keeping the rawness of the original cottage with a few comfort items added in like heaters and electric blankets. The special delivery of bacon eggs and bread was lovely. Thanks Debielee

    Mario2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful log cabin, lots of history. Warm and cosy, comfortable beds with lovely linen, bacon and eggs for breakfast - wonderful. Thanks Debbielee

    Barbara2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • We so enjoyed the cabin! After the initial shock of no internet & phone access and how remote the cabin was we 100% embraced it & loved it!! The history of the cabin was enhanced by the book and photo album in the cabin. We enjoyed the fire & board games. We hope to return one day

    Amanda2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • A really unique and authentic stay. We took a walk around the farm, enjoyed cosy woodfires in the cabin, learned a lot about Fonthill history and cooked up both dinner and breakfast while we were there. One of the best Airbnb’s we’ve stayed at and would highly recommend.

    Andrew2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing experience. Living as they did in the early 1800's. What a beautiful log cabin. We feel very lucky that we had the opportunity to stay. Very welcoming and helpful host. Lovely eggs, bacon and bread as well as all the staples. Would definitely stay again. The whole family loved it! Can't do this in Western Australia! ❤️❤️

Our charming cottage is close to parks, coffee shops, award-winning wineries, antique shops, The Agrarian Kitchen, National Parks, (15-20 minutes from) MONA, and (30 minutes from) Hobart. You’ll love our place because of its uniqueness: it's an historic kitchen quarters restored with modern conveniences. It's incredibly cosy: a pint-sized Georgian Cottage. Our place is ideal for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers looking for a welcoming and memorable experience.
The space is prepared to ensure your comfort - especially through Tasmanian winters - with safe, convenient and efficient electric heating, electric blankets on both beds, warm woollen blankets, and allergy-free doonas.
  • The unit was as described, lovely and cosy. Would happily stay there again. Many thanks

  • It was a special experience to stay in a cottage that represents so much history. Leyton is a fabulous host. I highly recommend a stay at Eliza's Cottage.

    Michelle2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is absolutely lovely, clean, well-equipped and exactly what it looks like on the pictures (which is not always the case on airbnb). Layton provided breakfast (toast, jam, butter, milk, orange juice, fruit, nuts) and even did the dishes for us. He was very helpful about where to go for a day trip and for food, the check in was easy, in total a great experience. I would highly recommend a stay at at Eliza‘s cottage and come back myself if I ever get the chance.

    Melanie2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • A unique, cute place perfect for a couple of days :)

    Valentina2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Eliza's cottage is a fascinating little building, if you are tall be prepared to stoop - it's all miniscule, but worth it! - Layton is a welcoming and respectful host - highly recommend.

    Rachael2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Layton's little cottage during our trip to Tasmania. A charming little cottage in the area of New Norfolk, on the outskirts of Hobart. The place was easy to identify and just a short walk from the town centre. Layton is a great host, and checked on us often to make sure that we were comfortable. We would easily recommend this place to others

Cozy and warm mud brick/celery top pine 2 room (+ bathroom) cabin with wood fireplace. Balcony with BBQ area on 15 acres w/amazing gardens and stunning views. Snows up to 15 times /year from May - Sept. Combined lounge/dining, wood fire, queen bed, kitchen and bathroom. 10 mins to MONA/20 mins to the city. A beautiful space in a beautiful place.
Nestled in a beautiful valley yet so close to Hobart and MONA, we have a very warm and inviting cabin which has been beautifully decorated. There is a very warm combustion fireplace (wood is charged at cost price to us for stays of 3+ nights), kitchen area, queen bed with electric blanket, bathroom and combined lounge/dining room. Please note that there is a single bed that can be set up in the living area for the 3rd person. If there are 2 people, there is only a queen bed. We can set up the single bed if 2 people want 2 beds - there is a small charge for this. This space is for a maximum of 3 people (including infants). We are surrounded by mountains on 3 sides on 15 acres so the scenery is nothing short of spectacular. Our water is provided to us from a natural spring from the mountain behind us and is crystal clear and tastes like water should. We have beautiful gardens (which you are welcome to wander around) and a dam with ducks. WE HAVE SEEN THE SOUTHERN LIGHTS MANY TIMES FROM OUR HOME There are loads of wildlife regularly on view: kangaroos, wallabies, bandicoots, kookaburras, a resident Echidna and a platypus that visits our dam up to 4 times per year! Perfect for a weekend away, a trip to MONA or a base for your Tassie adventure.
Collinsvale is a very quiet rural area (yet so close to the city) set in an amazing valley which is surrounded by mountains on 3 sides. Collinsvale has some amazing walks through rainforest and bushland. We are 5 mins walk to our local general store /petrol station, 10 minutes drive to MONA (Museum of Old and New Art), 12 mins. to shops and supermarkets (Northgate, Glenorchy), 5 mins drive to the beautiful Myrtle Forest, 20 mins drive to Hobart City and 35 mins drive from/to Hobart International Airport.
  • Out in the country side. Very quiet and private. Hosts go to extra trouble to ensure you have a pleasant stay.

    John2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was comfortable and cozy. The warm water came out well and there was no inconvenience at all for simple cooking. There are many tourist brochures around the property, and breakfast and laundry are also available, but it was also good. The host was also friendly and thankful for me taking care of it.

  • Very cute 2-room cottage with all the amenities you need for a relaxing stay in this beautiful area. Adam and Craig's block is amazingly located close to Mount Wellington, MONA and even the CBD. Most amazing were the views from the little hobbit house! Very friendly and responsive hosts as well. Thank you!

    Tessa2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We were disappointed to not see the platypus, but the rest of the wildlife at dusk were magical - the wallabies, quolls, and wombats in the meadow were amazing and what we were hoping to see! Thank you Craig and Adam for sharing your special place with us!

Our quirky little Studio Cabin in the garden, cosy & private, down a stepped brick path. Close to Tasmania's capital, Hobart, and ideal for short stays. Please note NO self check in/ Self-catering kitchen (BYO food). Queen bed, bedhead, drawers & bedside lamps. Hanging space & hangers on rolling rack, plus luggage shelf. NOTE en-suite bathroom is outside & down 3 steps, part of the charm. Visit & see for yourself! PLEASE NOTE: LIMIT 2 GUESTS - EXTRA GUESTS WILL BE REFUSED ENTRY.
Please also check our social media page - The Cabin on Elanore, and our wordpress blog. We also have a web page with wix. It's a private and quirky little space that we're sure you'll love. Not luxurious but comfortable and homely, and at one of the cheapest rates close to Hobart. Yes, you have to go outside and down the 3 steps too the 'facilities' but you can enjoy the garden while you do it! And there is a light for night trips. Cabin and ensuite with shower, toilet and basin, plus Tastic type heater lamp & fan. Kitchen annexe is down 2 steps - kitchenette with sink and drainer, hot and cold running water, 2 hotplates, microwave and fridge, plus pots, pans etc PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT provide food. Tea, coffee and long life milk, plus condiments such as salt & pepper are in the cabin, but it is SELF-CATERING. The closest supermarkets are a 25-40 minute walk. There are closer local small grocery/take away food places, but they have limited stock and are far more expensive. You are welcome use your computer via our WiFi. Please note the WiFi is NOT reliable, it is due to the fact that the Cabin is, effectively, in a hollow, and that Tasmanian internet is not the same standard as the mainland. You may or may not be able to get a connection. No large down/up loads, please, as it is not unlimited. Table and chairs for relaxing in the nice spots in our garden to use your computer or tablet devices. The comfortable Queen bed is a Sri Lankan teak bedhead and base, with a proper mattress, plus two side tables with drawers. Much more comfortable for your stay than the previous futon bed incarnation's tendency to sag in the middle!
Glenorchy has a lot to offer. We have outlets for Coles, Woolworths (supermarkets) and BigW & Target (variety), plus Shiploads & the Reject Shop (discount store) for any shopping you might need. It also has 4 op shops for the op shop fiends, and there are others close by. There are quite a few restaurants and take aways, we recommend Yummy Inn for Chinese (dine in or take away) and TwoSkips for seafood (and they do pizzas but we haven't tried them). It is not far to North Hobart's famous dining strip, which also houses the State Cinema complex, with a number of small to medium size cinemas, a cafe and a bookshop, all in the old historic building. You can even take your glass of wine in to enjoy while watching the film.
  • Perfect cabin accommodation in a good location. Very quiet. Hosts very generous and helpful. Was nice to pick fruit as we walked to cabin.

The cabin is spacious and nicely set out, and the kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, etc. The cabin is quiet and peaceful and offers good privacy. The location is close to bars and cafes in North Hobart - it's about a 10 minute drive away. I'd recommend staying with Odille and Warwick in Hobart.

Cosy studio in the quiet northern Hobart suburb of Lutana. A 12 minute drive to Mona, and the city is an easy 15 mins drive away. (Please note: it is not walking distance into city) The studio is nestled under the main house, with a private bathroom (shower, no bath) and private entrance. There is a microwave, toaster, kettle and small fridge, but please note there are no other kitchen facilities. The room looks out over a small reserve, with a fantastic view of Mount Wellington/kunanyi.
Street parking is available, and there is a short flight of stairs off the street (in case stairs are a problem). Basics like a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster are provided - but please note**There is no kitchen sink, only the bathroom sink for washing up.** The apartment was built in the 70s, so there is a little quirk! The door to the bathroom is a foldaway which you can see in the photo, works fine but might not be what you are used to! Currently there is NO TV available in the apartment.
  • Danielle is an amazing host, with a beautifully cozy and quaint space overlooking North Hobart. Ideal for couples! Bonus: there’s a lovely park right next door!

    Albert2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Danielle was a great host, very prompt with communication and thoughtful with the extra touches. The space was clean and comfortable with quality linen and a very comfortable bed. We loved that there was breakfast and strawberries, fresh bread and Danielle even checked in with us about our milk preference! The location was quiet and pleasant and a short easy drive to town. We totally loved it and would stay here again.

  • Beautiful apartment that exceeded my expectations for this value! Finding the house and parking was easy and convenient. Check-in/out was simple with the lockbox and enjoyed the privacy throughout my stay. Danielle was friendly and quick to respond to messages, really appreciated the thoughtful little touches in the apartment! Amenities provided were more than adequate and everything was really clean. The view was great and I enjoyed the cute little garden right outside the door. Perfect place highly recommended for 1-2 people!

  • Just great. Location, price, cleanliness and then the generous breakfast in the fridge.

    Walter2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Danielle’s place was a perfect!! Great location for those with a vehicle, quick drives to downtown Hobart, the MONA and the airport. The breakfast provided was lovely, and made early morning adventures easy to launch. The bed was comfy and the space was spotlessly clean. We absolutely loved our stay here and would stay again if we get the chance to come back!

    Danielle2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Danielles place was cosy and sparkling clean A simple but appreciated breakfast of cereal and toast. And milk tea coffee provided Check in process was easy and Danielle made extra efforts to help accomodate our flight times etc Was quick with responses to any questions asked and helpful as could be Highly recommend

  • I had a great stay at Danielle's place. The room is separate from the rest of the house so it's very private and quiet. The space was spotless and large enough for two. The pool/deck is a nice space for relaxing in the evening. The location is just north of the city and an easy 10 minute drive into central Hobart. I'd definitely recommend Danielle's place.

We have this small unit we call Hobi-wan, with a great view, in Hobart's inner north and we love to share it with friendly travellers. Apart from the view, we love walking out of the house and into kunanyi/Mt Wellington Park. Out our door and into the forest! 4km to the NoHo strip - state cinema, restaurants & bars etc. 6-6.5km to Salamanca and Hobart CBD. 8km to MONA. We live here full-time and will hang out with you if you're up for it, or let you be if that's what you're after.
Bedroom is small but adequate with very comfy 120x200cm bed. We’d love to host more than 1 person but unfortunately we just don’t have the sweet setup for it. It's a bit chilly in winter but there's an electric heater available and it takes the edge off. The main living room and kitchen and balcony face the northern valleys coming down from kunanyi/Mt Wellington and get a lot of the afternoon sun! There's also a split system heater that helps when the sun goes down or doesn't shine. There's a shared bathroom that is old and dated but puts out great solar heated hot hot extra hot water. You can use the kitchen as you wish, and we're happy to share tea and coffee. We don't have a TV, we listen to music instead. Either on vinyl or via the new fan-dangled Sonos thing (it's awesome). You're encouraged to join in, we love discovering new music....and rare Bruce Springsteen covers. Hobi-wan is on top of a steep street, so bring your fitness game or a vehicle. There is off street parking available if you want it, and you can use the garage for storing a fancy bike or muddy hiking and camping gear. Also, there's a great view :)
Walking into the forest is absolutely the best thing about our neighbourhood, but road access to kunanyi summit and the main tracks is via SoHo and about a 25 minute drive. Glenorchy MTB Park is 4.5km away or you could ride there through the forest.

  • Don’t look any further and book this hostel - just a wonderful house with a great energy! Your host Anthony will do anything to make your stay memorable and he’s super engaged in what he’s doing! We really enjoyed the double room, the bed is very comfortable and there are tons of bathrooms and showers throughout the house. Kitchen is great and has everything you need and it’s all very close to the center area (Salamanca) and the Harbour (you basically walk down the stairs around the corner). Come here and ENJOY!

  • Antony was a great host. He is extremely hospitable, and takes pride in his unique guesthouse.

  • We had a lovely stay at the Montacute ! Anthony is super friendly and comprehensive ; we arrived really early in Hobart after a 6am flight from Sydney and he let us sleep for a few hours in the reception room since it was too early for checking in. We got recommendations on how to go to the MONA and also plenty of advices on where to go for food near the hostel. The hostel is also ideally located : very pleasant neighbourhood, lots of cafes and restaurants around and super close to the pier, it was perfect ! Thanks again !

    Marie2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place is an absolute gem! Wonderful location in beautiful Battery Point, right near fabulous cafes and restaurants, a short stroll down the steps to Salamanca. It’s a lovely little place, shared amenities and a big kitchen and fridge for cooking if you fancy. Highly recommend.

The Farm Shack is a small brick outbuilding on our 16 acre historic property. Set close to the main house but separate from it. The Farm Shack has its own entry which you can drive close to. This is a great alternative to camping (only much more comfortable) for a couple or two friends. There is one queen bed. There are fold back glass doors which open to a private grassed area where you can relax under the almond tree around your camp fire. You will share the host's bathroom in the main house.
Your grassed campfire area is slightly raised and is bordered on one side by a remnant convict brick wall, and the other by a fence. You look out to the orchard and sheep paddock beyond. The morning sun shines on this private area and comes in through the glass doors of the Shack. Enjoy the farm yard view snuggled in bed with a cuppa or pull the curtains for privacy from the ducks chickens and geese! We have 16 acres with access and more on the adjacent back property for you to enjoy when you aren't out exploring the region. We have 3 dams/ponds. It is not suitable for pets as the Farm Shack is not fully fenced off from the rest of the property. BATHROOM: You DO NOT have your own bathroom. You will share our (your hosts) bathroom and toilet in the main house which is very close. We are on town water and it is safe to drink. Your bath towels, face washers and soap are supplied. KITCHEN FACILITIES: There is no kitchen access but you have your own outdoor covered food preparation area with a gas BBQ. I will do your washing up! Just deliver them to our back door in the container provided and you will get them back sparkling clean. There is a small fridge at your food preparation area. COOKING: There is a small gas BBQ for your sole use and we also supply your cooking equipment, and cutlery, plates, cups etc. COFFEE/TEA: You have an electric kettle and a toaster with coffee, tea and sugar in the Farm Shack right next to your bed. FOOD: You will have a supply of milk, coffee, sugar, tea and drinking chocolate, salt and pepper waiting for you. You will need to provide your own milk once you have finished your welcome bottle. The Farmshack is self catering. I provide enough for your first breakfast (bread/English muffins) to toast, weetbix, butter, milk and basic spreads. The Farm Shack is only 4 minutes drive from the small town of New Norfolk where you can buy supplies. There is a large Woolworths grocery store, an independent butcher in High Street, 3 pubs/hotels, 2 drive through liquor outlets, many cafes, bakeries, and take away shops including McDonalds and Subway. CLOTHES WASHING: I (your host) am happy to do a bag wash for you for $10/load washed and dried. I wash whatever you have put in the bag. I don't sort. TECHNOLOGY: There is WIFI but no TV. There are electric points for charging your devices in the Farm Shack. Internet access is free though the signal can be unreliable.
We are in the beautiful Derwent Valley in the South of Tasmania. Our property is 16.5 acres in the country but only a few minutes drive to a small town with all services. Hobart 35 minutes MONA 15 minutes Mt Field National Park 35 minutes The Salmon Ponds 10 minutes New Norfolk Town 4 minutes The Agrarian Kitchen Farm and Cooking School 15 minutes The Agrarian Kitchen Eatery and Shop 5 minutes Our property is only 4 minutes drive from the small town of New Norfolk where you can buy supplies for your stay as well as ice. There is a large Woolworths grocery store, an independent butcher in High Street, 3 pubs/hotels, 2 drive through liquor outlets, 1 bottle shop, many cafes, bakeries, and take away shops including McDonalds and Subway.
  • Lisa was a very hospitable host. The accomodation itself was very clean, and the views were breathtaking. We fed the sheep, chickens, ducks, geese and had many cuddles with the cats. We even made a campfire. Overall our experience was nothing short of amazing! Thank you Lisa

  • It’s the perfect little place to stay. Highly recommend

    Tim2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time in the barn! Lisa welcomed us very warmly and was always available when we had questions and gave us many tips for the area. A previous email from the associated B&B was a little confusing, as was the statement "breakfast included". Only a 1st small breakfast is included (as stated in the description). Also good to know: chickens live / stay in the covered kitchen area, so you really shouldn't be shy; D

  • Perfect getaway. Cosy. Lots of fruit trees and animals. Close to town. Loved the campfire with marshmallows. Lots of history too. We loved our stay and this is the quirkiest BnB we have stayed in so far. We will be back!!!

    Julie2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa is the most welcoming host. We immediately felt at home at the farm shack. The property itself is beautiful, complete with a plentiful orchard, a myriad of animals, and a lovely campfire. We will absolutely return, this is a gem of a place.

This charming heritage building was the storekeepers house from the historic Whites Corner Store - a landmark of the historic central higlands town of Bothwell.
This charming historic building has been fully restored and renovated to blend the heritage values with modern comfort and convenience. The kitchen and bathroom are modern and we pride ourselves on high quality beds and bedlinen. This building originally housed the town general storekeeper and his family - a prominent pioneering family with the house reflecting their importance in Tasmanian history. Note that the house comfortably sleeps 12, however the dining table does not seat 12 and there is only one bathroom (there's an extra toilet in the guest laundry area just outside the back door)- please be aware of these limitations.
Please note that most food places in the town close at 7-8pm, so if you are arriving after 7 you will need to self-cater (consequently kitchens are well equipped for cooking your own meals).
  • What an incredible piece of history this house is. So well set up with all the amenities & especially loved reading about the history of the house & the town.

  • A great stay near Mt. Fields with a nice view from the porch. I had brought some food to cook, given the notes that dining options were limited, and found that the cookware was perfect for a simple meal.

  • Mr. Larrie's house is very clean and comfortable. There is a small garden with a lake at the door. It just takes some time to get out of the city, and living in a house like this in Tazhou is really good. And the room has a lot of details worthy of praise. There is a full set of cooking stuff. You can cook directly after cooking. The hygiene is very clean. The toilet also has a drying rack. You can dry towels or small clothes. The couple is especially enthusiastic because Language communication is not very smooth, I think I can learn more about Hobart's life and local customs. freeking love it!
