Family-friendly holiday rentals in Matala beach

Very nice house and private pool, part of a set of 3 villas, a few kilometers from a small village with taverns. It should be noted that a car is essential for getting around. The furniture and amenities are as described. Too bad the jacuzzi bathtub didn't work, but we were able to enjoy the pool which was still very pleasant temperature-wise. Several terraces and a beautiful view of the countryside and the sea in the distance. In October, we were able to enjoy the calm without being bothered by the other villas, it was really wonderful. We are very happy with our stay. A big thank you to Maria-Loanna for her flexibility with our departure.

Fantastic old traditional house, well preserved and carefully modernized. Kind hosts eager to assist and give recommendations of nice nearby places to visit. Amazing view of the valley.

Tasos is an extremely welcoming host. When we arrived late, we found a generously stocked fridge and freezer. Fruits, jams, rusks and cold and hot drinks were waiting for us. And Tasos was absolutely adorable to make our stay easier. We really appreciate it. Her apartment is very nice , the jacuzzi and the beautiful view make it a rare find. We highly recommend this rental, even more appreciated thanks to the many details Tasos has thought of.

The house is simply gorgeous. Our family had a wonderful Christmas holiday here. The host was very generous with items in the refrigerator and a well stocked kitchen. Lots of recommendations of places to eat in the area. Michael met us in the driveway upon arrival and showed us everything in the house, that was very kind. Especially loved access to the washer and dryer because we were traveling with kids. It was too cold to use the pool, but if you are here when it is warm, it would be such delight.

Very nice modern house (less than five years old?) overlooking the sea. Everything in very good working order, including powerful air conditioning in the bedrooms. Frequent cleaning of the pool area was a benefit, particularly when a storm had come in the night before. Very convenient to Rethymno as well as to several bakeries and restaurants towards the centre of the island.

The villa is even bigger and more beautiful than on the pictures. It is a little paradise with peacocks and own olive farm and little pond with red fish and parrots. It was just unbelievable! We celebrated our wedding with 30 people there and I could not imagine more suitable place for pictures, videos and fun! It is unforgettable, has everything you need and very private. The owner was so helpful and gave us his home made drinks as a gift. I am super happy that I found this paradise and will defo want to come back again and again!

We had a great stay. The villa was immaculate and spacious. There was plenty of room for the whole family (8 adults and two children). Games room was well used. Kostas responded really quickly throughout the stay. We had chosen not to heat the pool but on arrival changed our mind as it was a bit too cold. This was sorted without a fuss early next morning. There was a dust/rain storm on the second day. The owner came round to check the villa and organised the cleaners for next day. She spent two hours cleaning around the pool so we could use it. The view from the villa was spectacular, the only draw back being the walk up the steep hill…

we had a great week at Maria's place. The covered terrace is the most beautiful room in the house with a magnificent view of the sea. The beach is less than 5 minutes' walk away, but beware, for people who have difficulty walking, the slope is rather steep to climb. Maria is very responsive and responds very quickly to messages. Agia Pelagia remains a small seaside resort very well located to visit the North of the island. Beautiful discovery

We can highly recommend this accommodation. It's tucked away in a very secluded spot, which makes it wonderfully peaceful. At the same time, you can reach restaurants and a mini market in just a few minutes. A car is essential! The garden is stunning. The biodiversity is incredible. There's always something new to discover. The house is quite small and simply furnished, but that was absolutely fine. Everything was clean, and that's what matters most. The long driveway leading to the house can be a bit intimidating—it just slopes down without any railing or guard. But that’s just part of the Cretan charm. Giannis was always very friendly and helpful—thank you for everything! We also got to know the neighboring family and even visited them. Such kind people. And the animals! Aphroditi the horse, a peacock, chickens, and turkeys—our daughter loved them. Overall a great experience. We were very happy and would definitely recommend it. Who knows—maybe we’ll be back in a few years!

This was our 4th stay at Giannis' place and as always it was perfect. The property is exactly as pictured and described, so comfortable, with amazing outdoor space and everything you need (great WiFi, smart TV, great shower, plenty of towels and bed linen, etc). The outdoor space is the major selling point, with lots of different relaxing areas, plenty of shade, and a fabulous pool. And stunning views to boot! Agios Myron is a lovely little town: if you go please make sure to visit the local bar, restaurant, bakery and shop, all run by lovely people. Looking forward to returning again next year!

Retro Gaming Paradise – A Perfect Stay! We had an amazing time at this apartment! The place was a nostalgic dream for any retro gaming fan—fully stocked with classic consoles like the N64, Dreamcast, Game Boys, and more! along with a great selection of games. It was the perfect setup to unwind and relive some childhood favorites. The space itself was beautifully designed—clean, cozy, and super aesthetic, with thoughtful touches that really gave it character. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we slept like babies each night. The location was also ideal—close to everything - center , food places, shops, beach , with easy access to local attractions. On top of all that, George is a fantastic host : friendly, responsive, and full of excellent local recommendations that really added to the experience!! Highly recommend this spot for gamers or anyone looking for a unique and comfortable stay!

Jeronimo is a really great host. Very, very friendly and helpful. We felt very comfortable and welcome right away. The accommodation is beautifully located above the small Soudabucht with magnificent views. Two recommended taverns are within walking distance. Jeronimo's bar is also great and not to be missed. We can highly recommend the beautiful, simple but functional accommodation.

Everything was perfect

Close to the beach. Parking available. Apartment has everything you might need. Helpful host. Everything within walking distance, car is only needed for day trips. Nice toys for the kids. The only downside is that it is next to a busy road with the necessary noise.

Everything about our stay was perfect. Kostis was incredibly kind, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything we needed. The location was absolutely amazing and close to everything we wanted to see. The place itself was clean, comfortable and had the best view. I would definitely book it again in the future and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay

We had a wonderful time at this stunning villa! The view of the sea is absolutely breathtaking, and the large pool was a true highlight. We especially loved the amazing outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven – perfect for relaxing evenings and cooking outdoor with Kids. Dimitra and her family were incredibly warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the very beginning. There are several tavernas with great food within walking distance. We felt completely at ease and would love to come back!

We loved our week in Eleftheria and Manolis’s hillside home. Our every need was catered for: we were given a warm welcome with delicious evening meal and other goodies; Eleftheria was full of helpful recommendations of places to eat; the bed was comfortable and the kitchen well-equipped; and the beautiful terrace and refreshing little pool - from which we could look down onto the Libyan Sea - beckoned each time we returned from our adventures around the coast and mountains. Terracotta pots brimming with geraniums and basil, and olive trees around our borders, made it a very special place to relax, though the setting is what made it stand out: we had complete privacy and utter peace (we heard only goats, sheep and the occasional distant dog). We loved staying at Petros's place. The location is picture perfect and completely serene, coupled with the stunning views - perfect getaway gem. The villa is beautifully designed with lots of places to explore and hang out in. Petros is very accommodating and all around helpful from assisting us in setting up the outdoor speakers to offering to make restaurant reservations on our behalf. We had an absolutely amazing time and hope to stay at the villa again when we come back to Crete. Highly recommend!

Lovely villa sitting in the hills outside of Rethymno City. All self contained and immaculately kept and maintained. Very responsive host who was most welcoming. Nikos and his daughter Katerina did a fantastic job responding to our needs and making us most welcome. Katerina has superb English so communication was never a problem. Would thoroughly recommend. It would also suggest you need a car to get about either down the hill to City and beaches or up the hill to mountain villages and exploring. Pool is great and outdoor space around the villa is superb. Reccomendations - we followed up on a few authentic tavernas from Katerina and they were superb. Would defo go and eat at Athivoles Taverna in Chromonastiri. Only a short drive away ie 7 km but basically the most authentic Cretan cuisine you will taste for sure. Hits were magnificent. All in all we had a great family holiday.

We had a fantastic time at the villa, it’s easily the best villa we’ve ever stayed in. It’s better than the photos - which is a rare thing. The view is amazing and it’s super peaceful. A fan base for exploring beautiful Crete. The owner Giannis met us at the villa and had even bought groceries for us including a lovely bottle of local wine, such a nice touch to start our holiday. He’s really welcoming and had plenty of good recommendations for us. The pool is fantastic and our girls really enjoyed themselves playing. Lake Kourna is a must visit and you’ve a beautiful view of it from the villa. Thanks for a truly memorable stay - We will certainly stay here again.

We really enjoyed our stay in Thomais´resort. Thomais did everything to make us feel welcome and welcomed us with homemade cooking and wine. Located on the mountain top the distance to shopping and restaurants is several kilometers, but excellent taxi service solved this so we dropped our plans to rent a car.

We had a lovely stay in Kalamaki , the Villa is as the pictures suggest , well laid out , spacious with everything you need for your stay . Our kids loved the pool and the comfy balcony sofas were perfect for just chilling - thanks

Could not recommend this place enough. Me and my 4 mates went to this villa. (5 lads, all 21 years old) it was amazing, Magdalena met us at the villa when we landed to talk us through all that we needed and show us around. It was huge, 5 bedrooms and plenty of things to do inside the house, multiple TVs, big kitchen with all the things you’d need, blenders, coffee machine, cutlery etc. The views from the villa were incredible as we were on top of a hill. The pool was the perfect temperature in the day and even at night it was never really cold like most pools. The gym is small but you can manage well if you know what you are doing. It has a good pool table, table tennis, loads of card games and a PS4. Whenever we needed any help Magdalena would always respond in minutes. The price is great for what you get it is the best I have found. It is only 15-20 minutes drive from the city of Heraklion where there is plenty to do such as food and drink. I’d also recommend renting a car.
