The Stilt House

Once the island Trading Post (in the 1820's) now serves as a private retreat on Westport Island. The whole property has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982. The building is nestled at the water's edge, half on land and half on stilts over the tidal waters of the Sheepscot River. The property has its own private deck, island, rocky beach, trails and hammock. This is an old structure - over 200 years old! A great piece of history and an absolute oasis.

My family of 5 and pups stayed for a week. It was beautiful, serene, relaxing. Ecotherapy. We fished, swam, floated, kayaked, canoed, read, had campfires, played games, and made a lot of good memories. We felt disconnected from the grind and connected to one another. I was a little nervous about my length of stay with two teens and an 8yo but they had the best time. Maybe two weeks next time. Bob was considerate and thoughtful through the stay making sure we had everything we needed. We are grateful that Bob was willing to share it with us. Must go! Does not disappoint!

We struggled with some initial indecision on which IBSI site to book for our first trip to the island, but the moment we rowed up to Loon point in our borrowed canoe we knew right away we’d made the right choice. What a view! Every day on IBSI was a perfect balance of adventure and quiet relaxation. We took full advantage of all the generously provided amenities from canoe to kayaks to the do-it-yourself sound and cold plunge. Kent and Heather were always available and attentive, ready to support us whenever we needed. The supplies available made it very easy to feel ready for a camping experience. We cannot have imagined a better mid-summer escape. We love the sustainable mission behind one BSI. Our time here provided a unique opportunity to be especially thoughtful about our use of resources and impact on the land something we are especially grateful for. We will definitely be back!

Island Cottage Getaway in Casco Bay!!

Getting up everyday and walking to the beach, or watching the sunrise from the porch really set our day off on the right foot. We spent all day on the beach, or exploring the island. My kids collected bags of seaglass and driftwood. We splashed in the waves, soaking in all the sunshine and salty air goodness. Nights were spent taking sunset walks, making smores by the fire, and star gazing. We saw Saturn and the Milky Way! My kids had a great time on the lobster boat with Jerry. Homeschool science lesson!!! I planned and packed as if we would be camping, and that allowed us to fully enjoy the home and vacation for exactly what it was. We had hot water to wash dishes, and do sunset baths in a bin outside. My husband showered and didnt have any hot water complaints. Things I recommend-sponges, coffee if you are picky (I am), watershoes, castile soap (can be used for all cleaning needs), bug spray, headlamps for exploring at night, and a well stocked first aid kit just in case.
