Staying at the Bog Man's Rest was a wonderful experience. Brian was away during my stay, but his Dad, Paddy, who runs the pub next door, was a friendly and helpful host, helping with questions on how to lock the AirBnB door, answering questions about Irish culture, and pouring the best pints of Guinness I've ever had. The bed was quite comfortable, the water heater was easy to use, and the surrounding countryside was beautiful. If you're looking for a home base in Co. Kildare and want to experience a living, breathing, family-owned pub and grocer loved by the community, stay here! One note - I think the accommodations are sized for an individual or couple (or maybe with one small child). The guest house is grand, but it might be tight for a family, and I only say that as I would stay with my family if we could fit (I was by myself). You won't go wrong here! Plus, Kildare town is only a 10 min drive away, so you're near the old historical town, shops, and more.

We spent three nights here in the Forge with our dog Medo for a birthday break, and to visit the Kilkenny Roots Festival. The cottage was perfect for us, it had everything we needed. The grounds are lovely to walk around, especially during the dawn chorus. The old stone buildings and forest trail left to grow wild is one of the things we loved most about the place. The dinner was also exceptional, with an excellent wine selection. We were regularly greeted by the happy Fauna, and a collection of geese pottering around. The house is in a great location for walking the Slieve Bloom mountains, and we plan to come back in the not too distant future. Thank you Hannah and Paddy!
