Perfect for two, the Old Mill is a modern, cosy and eclectic conversion of 1700s water mill near the Royal Burgh of Lauder. This romantic bolthole is spacious and inviting - it's somewhere you can slow down and retreat from busy lives. Soak in a deep bath or rainforest shower, enjoy Meraki spa products, warmth from the woodburning stove, drink good coffee, cook, bake, read, or simply relax in the space around you. Edinburgh is just 40 mins away; most of the Scottish Borders is within 20 mins.
“Came with our little dog for a few nights away and The Mill exceeded our expectations. It was exactly what we wanted, nice local walks, peaceful area, cosy log fire, comfortable bed and large bath. Generous hamper on arrival and each bathroom had lovely soaps and fresh towels. We loved all the finishing touches and how homely the place felt, particularly in providing things like a cake stand and a Bluetooth speaker, which were in use throughout our stay. We were sad to leave and wished we could have stayed longer. Thanks Ruth for a wonderful stay.”
Perfect self catering for all border activities. Secure, indoor storage for cycles, rifles & rods. Full drying facilities for clothing & boots. Fully equipped kitchen. Bathroom with washing machine. Wifi. TV. Twin room and double sofa bed. Shop & pub.
“This comfortable home away from home was such a great place to stay in the Scottish Borders! The house had everything you could need to feel relaxed. Although we didn’t need to cook for the one night we stayed, the kitchen was immaculate and had everything you could need. I love that there are some games and plenty of books in case you want to spend a night in. And I really loved the coal stove that kept the tv area toasty warm! It’s only a few doors down from the local village shop and cafe/pub, so food and drink were easy to grab. Amanda was a great host and kept in touch often to make sure we had everything we needed. I would love to stay again if I’m ever in the area!”
School Cottage is located in the picturesque village of Gattonside, a 10 minute walk from the centre of the historic town of Melrose. Ideally situated for sight seeing, walkers, cyclists and people looking to fish the Tweed. You can enjoy the stunning scenery with access to the Eildon hills. A short drive away is Tweedbank where you will find the train station that travels to Edinburgh Waverley. The journey takes about an hour also stopping at other destinations on the way.
“If you’re looking for a peaceful, quiet, home away from home while visiting Gattonside, this is the perfect cottage. Anne has thought of everything when setting it up: reliable internet, a Nest system to control the heat so that you’re comfy no matter where you are in the house, a spotless and organized kitchen and bathroom so you don’t feel like you’re searching for basics, and homey decor that just adds to the cottage’s natural charm. Tucked away from the main road, we never once had any issues with noise and I had some of the best sleep while there. Check-in / out was also simple because of Anne’s communication. I would absolutely recommend this space for anyone who’s tired of hotels and wants the simple pleasures of feeling at home.”
