Unique activities hosted by local experts vetted for quality

  • Potter's wheel experience
Potter's wheel experience For the time being, we're keeping class sizes to a minimum of x4 participants per instructor. We're blessed with ample studio space and will social distance participants accordingly. Please allow 1.5hrs for your visit (less if you are a solo potter) On arrival you'll be offered a warm (socially distanced!) welcome from either Jon or his wife and fellow maker Sarah. You will share a wheel between two, having two goes each. If you are ‘fortunate/skillful’ enough to end up with two pots we’ll ask you to select your favourite to take away with you to paint at home. Alternatively, for an additional £20 per pot, leave your masterpieces with us to be dried, fired and glazed. Once your masterpieces have emerged from the kiln approx. one month later, we’ll drop you a line to let you know they're ready for collection from the Pottery. P+P can be arranged at £5 per item.

  • Learn the craft of stained-glass
This one-day course will introduce you to the medieval craft of stained glass. You will choose from a selection of designs that are all achievable in a day. Your day will include tuition and materials for a panel with a simple design approx 20cm square or a rectangle 20cm x 25cm. Classes are small - one or two people - so you get a lot of individual tuition and extra help if needed. By the end of the day you will have a beautiful leaded glass panel to take home. We start at 9am with an introduction to the day. You will then learn the basics of glass cutting before choosing a design and selecting your glass from a range of colours and textures to make your panel unique. After you have cut the glass pieces to fit the design I teach you how to use lead and solder to join the glass pieces together. To finish your piece you will learn to cement and polish to make your panel strong and water-tight. I aim to finish the day at 5 or 6pm. There will be refreshment breaks mid-morning and mid-afternoon and a light lunch around 1pm. I am an Airbnb Superhost and can accommodate up to three guests so you can include the course in a short break. Other things to note The course is not suitable for pregnant women and nursing mothers because it involves working with lead. We try to cater for dietary requirements where possible so please let us know in advance.

  • Gin distilling at a micro distillery
Immerse yourself in our artisan distillery deep in the captivating Welsh Wye Valley, a stone's throw from Tintern and Trellech. Take in views of rolling fields and ancient woodlands, whilst sampling several varieties of Silver Circle gin. Together we'll tour the distillery, explaining how we create our different blends and demonstrating how each ingredient delicately influences fragrance and taste. Touch, taste and smell locally foraged botanicals, and mull over your own favourite gin flavours. We'll talk you through a variety of natural flavourings and guide you in your selection of ingredients to create your personal recipe. Our 5 wooden distillery stations fit two people, each with its own miniature copper still. As your gin drips gently through the still, there's time to relax and share a cup of something with your fellow alchemists before blending, measuring and bottling your individually crafted gin. The resulting bottle of gin will be yours to name, take home and generally show off about. Sharing is, of course, up to you. A discount is applicable when 2 or more people are sharing a still, bringing home one bottle of gin between them. This applies automatically to all bookings of more than one person. If you do not wish to share a still, please make separate bookings! Other things to note The experience is for two people sharing a still. Participants can come alo
