When we first arrived in Kyoto, Aunt Yoko took the initiative to pick us up at the bus stop and gave us a lot of good travel advice in the two days of our stay. Her warm and friendly and deeply helped our two travelers to Japan for the first time, wishing Aunt Yoko healthy and forever happy.

Thatched Cottage Mitoya Rural Kyoto

JayRating, 5 stars13 months ago
Our thanks to these great hosts who were very accommodating from the first inquiry all the way to checkouut. A very friendly family who truly welcome you to their village and home. The thatched cottage was as advertised and the experience of staying out in the countryside was perfect. Not a complaint, but just stating the house is an old house with low hanging beams, which an average height persob bumped their head 5 times in 3 nights 😉. But again fully recommend Yoshiko-san's Mitoya cottage, a nice peaceful stay.

Overall very satisfied! The actual size of the room is large, there is no compulsive feeling, it is very relaxing when you come home and rest, decorated with a rich Japanese-style old house, and it is worth the taste. It should be noted that the property is located half a hill and will consume a certain amount of walking strength every day, not recommended for people with age, mobility issues, but is ideal for those who are fit to be fit and enjoy sports hiking. There are no convenience stores nearby, remember to buy items you need before you go home, but Larry offers a lot of rich snacks, drinks and ingredients including fresh eggs, tofu, etc. so you can make your own breakfast and be able to meet your needs most of the time. There are very cute cats and dogs! Kyoto has a humid climate, sometimes cold in the morning and evening, the quilt is a little narrow, later Larry helped take another bed. I recommend that you can prepare a little wider in the future ~ Looking forward to the opportunity to stay again next time, thank you so much for your hospitality!

Ms. Keiko's beautiful house is situated on a quiet and charming hill, the house is very traditional Japanese style, living here can experience a strong local atmosphere.Keiko takes care of the garden very naturally, and the most laudable is the never-repeated breakfast made every day by Keiko, which is truly delicious! It was more abundant than my lunch and dinner outside.Ms. Keiko is kind and kind, and will pick up and drop off guests by car every day. We had a great time chatting in the car, and I learned a lot of Japanese.I have fallen in love with Kyoto this time, and I will stay in Keiko's house again next time!

Feel Real Japan. brand-new, modern

OdileRating, 5 stars1 week ago
The best Airbnb we've ever had. Yoko folds in 4 to advise us on the best visits: bike loan for a tour in the city, on-site presentation of restaurants, facilitation for transportation. The accommodation is very design and extremely well kept ( careless or messy refrain). Breakfasts renewed every day with fresh fruit and Kyoto specialties. The bookbinding workshop offered with his father is really exciting. In conclusion, an address to advise his friends.

We were a group of 3 guys in their twenties. It was a very welcoming and comfortable home. Pickup and drop off from the train station was helpful. The included homemade breakfast was an amazing way to start each day. Amenities were clean. Beds were cozy. The host was very friendly and did a fantastic job making sure we were comfortable. 1000% a highlight of our trip to Japan. We would all stay with Lily again!

It’s a Jazz Resort !

MichaelRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
We stayed at four airBnb‘s in Japan and all have their good points, but this was by far the best. Located in a quiet suburb so not walking distance to the main sites of Kyoto, but with some lovely sites that we would not have seen otherwise Close by. It was as simple Uber ride or train ride to get into Kyoto for main sightseeing and it was lovely to come home to a quiet un bustling local with a wide choice of excellent restaurants to choose among. The apartment itself is spacious, by far the most spacious we stayed in And it’s part of a an apartment complex which has a small gym. Nori and Fumi even served us breakfast all three days we were there in another upstairs breakfast room. To top it off, they picked this up and dropped us off at this train station three days later. All in all it was a really welcoming and comfortable place to stay, well worth the price we paid

The host was absolutely outstanding. The atmosphere was always friendly and welcoming. The location was perfect for me since I was attending a conference at the international conference centre (20 minute walk). The facilities were excellent for the price.

Breakfast incl./KINGYOYA renovated traditional house/Deluxe Room

KevinRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Albeit brief, this was my favorite stay of my entire Japan trip. The hosts were incredibly friendly and always proactive in making sure we felt at home not just in our accommodation but also in Kyoto and the lovely and peaceful neighborhood the townhome resides in. They made sure to follow up every question we had and made sure we were able to travel and make our next destination smoothly. We had some stressful travel beforehand, but they were extremely flexible in made our trip much easier. Also their cute daily breakfast was delicious and every single room had so much personality. It has a shared common space and bathroom but it never felt inconvenient and also allows you to get a one of a kind experience in Kyoto. The price was also incredibly reasonable and a great value. I look forward to returning next time I’m in town!

What a beautiful traditional Japanese home to stay We totally loved the old house, beautiful decorations, the inner courtyard and our room. Everything was perfect! Chieri is a great host, we felt very welcomed and home right away. We were on a road trip, so we also enjoyed that we could wash our clothes. And we tried out the traditional japanese bath. Perfect! Chieri, thank you for everything! Hope to see you someday again!

I had a fantastic stay at this Airbnb in Kyoto! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready to help out with any questions or needs. The location is great – it’s about a 10-15 minute walk to the nearest station and equally close to popular spots like Sanjo and Nishiki Market, making it easy to explore the area. One of the highlights of my stay was definitely the breakfast. It wasn’t just a standard continental breakfast – each morning, they prepared a full, delicious spread for every guest, which was such a treat to start the day. You could really feel the care and effort they put into making everyone feel at home. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed. The only minor issue was the washer and dryer, which are a bit dated. The dryer took a while to dry a half load, so I’d recommend doing smaller loads or planning laundry for when you have some time to hang out. Overall, I loved my stay here and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting!

Staying at John’s place in Shiga was an unforgettable experience! John is an incredibly passionate and energetic host, always full of enthusiasm. He and his lovely wife, Rika, made me feel right at home. They even invited me to join their family for a delicious homemade dinner, and Rika kindly provided breakfast as well. Their son, Andre, was also very friendly, and I truly enjoyed our conversations. The house itself is a charming countryside cottage surrounded by beautiful nature, making it a perfect getaway. If you’re visiting Shiga, staying with John is an absolute must! Highly recommended!

Out of all the places that we stayed in while we were in Japan, Takumi's place will be the most memorable. From the beautiful home in the quaint village to the five star dinner and breakfast that was prepared for us by our host. It truly was such a unique experiences and we are very grateful, Arigato Goziamasu! Also, if Takumi makes you soup, the soup is done when the fire burns out 😀
