'Ryojoan' is a 150-year-old traditional Japanese house located in a village at the foot of the Kiso-Koma Highlands, right in the heart of the Nakasendo. This small Japanese-style room is ideal for solo travellers or couples.From the window, you can enjoy views of the fields and mountains. At night, you can hear the croaking of frogs, the chirping of insects and the calling of deer in the distance, and in the morning, the birdsong is lively in the mountains. On summer nights, the temperature is around 20°C.There is no air conditioning, so you can only use the fan. In winter, the temperature can drop to -15°C, and occasionally you can see diamond dust.There is a wood-burning stove in the shared area.There is an oil fan heater in the room.These are very common facilities in Japanese households. It is a no meal stay. Feel free to cook in the shared kitchen where everyone gathers.It is fully equipped with cookware and tableware. 25 minutes by bus from Kiso-Fukushima Station, and 3 minutes on foot from Oharaue Station. This 150-year-old Nagano Prefecture traditional kominka (old house) with a large roof is located in the Kiso-Koma Highlands, right in the middle of the Nakasendo. This is a room with a bunk bed, made in the image of an old-fashioned youth hostel. Please use as a family or group. That's right, this building used to be a youth hostel.Our family took over the management of this building in 2024, and we are renovating it ourselves, room by room, to make it a place where people can stay comfortably. At night you can hear frogs and bugs, deer chirping in the distance, and birds in the mornings in the bustling mountains. There is no air conditioner because the summer night breeze allows you to spend the night with only a fan at around 20°C. In winter, the temperature can drop to -15°C, and occasionally you can see diamond dust.There is a large wood-burning stove in the shared area, and a kerosene fan heater is provided in the room.This is a common type of heating system in Japan.
