This is a self-catering cottage with a bedroom/ living area, kitchen/dining room and an en suite bathroom. With exposed brick walls, walnut finished wood and hand painted tiles, Ivy Cottage is delightfully shabby chic. Rustic and yet luxurious, its red, white and black color theme and art work reflect local tribal culture and the animals of the Nilgiris. An entire wall of floor to ceiling windows look out on a private patio and gardens and a stunning view. Gardens are shared with other guests.
“The place is great and the information provided by the host was very helpful in deciding our trip. The place was very clean with all the basic amenities. The view was spectacular (especially the sunrise). The company of the dogs makes the stay more memorable (Azhagi followed us everywhere, Waza showed us the place were we can see the best view and Konjam was such a playful dog copying whatever the other two were doing). Time flies by playing with the dogs. I would surely come again to Mala's place on my next trip to Kotagiri/Ooty. I would recommend travellers to read the description carefully and then decide to book. This place may not be everyone's cup of tea. Things such as uneven driveway to Villa, roaming dogs, no restaurants, inconsistent network, no staffs during night, steep walking could bother many, but none was a problem for us. The stay and view is all worth all of it. I would recommend the place to everyone.”
Nestled in the Nilgiri Mountains at 8,000ft, just below Doddabetta Peak, this self-catering apartment with a fully equipped kitchen has a master bedroom and a sleeping loft. Surrounded by reserve forest and tea plantations, the view is stunning. On the same property is the large house, Stumpfields, which also hosts guests when the owners are travelling, and a smaller apartment, Ivy just below Bilberry, that hosts two guests. While each house is fully private, the gardens and grounds are shared.
“romantic, spacious, with a breathtaking view! the grounds are well manicured and gorgeous. do plan to spend some time at the cottage to take in the atmosphere. few tips: 1) i do recommend you get a driver or have your own ride. we arranged one at the bus station. finding an uber from the cottage is difficult . 2) bring some house slippers or woolen socks. the stone floors get cold in the winter. while the hot water in the shower didn’t last too long we heated our own water for a bucket bath quite comfortably. the fireplace was charming and we enjoyed curling up to it. Hari is such a helpful gent and a great resource! despite minor logistical inconveniences of getting there and leaving, staying outside of ooty is 100% worth the effort! We definitely unplugged, woke up to the sunrise cresting over the mountains, and breathed fresh misty mountain air. would def stay again!”
Nestled in the Nilgiri Mountains at 8,000ft, just below Doddabetta Peak on 1.5 acres, this self-catering four bedroom house with porches, picnic area and a fireplace is a peaceful getaway. Surrounded by national reserve forests and tea plantations, the view is stunning. Just 7 kilometers outside of Ooty town, this property is close to all the major tourist highlights but is secluded at the same time. You get the entire house to yourself, but share the garden and outdoors with other guests.
“Oh, what a spectacular stay we had at Stumpfields. The pictures are accurate and you will find yourself in a serene and calm setting. Do ensure to wake up early for the sunrise - it is simply stunning and magical. We were well prepared for the chilly overnight weather but still had the ladies start us a fire, which was nice. We also brought our own provisions and “Booked a Cook”. The ladies-Parvati and Devi-made the four of us a splendid meal. Superb! Hari, the house manager, was available and ready to answer all of our questions and provide any advice we sought. Hari even went out of his way to call us quickly after our departure to notify us of items we left behind providing us enough time to turn around and retrieve them! An extra special thank you!! We stayed two nights and during our one full day half of our party went in to Ooty town to explore and the other half hiked up to the Tea Park from the estate to explore and returned to sit in the gardens and read. We were all very happy with our time. Stumpfields is simply a treasure - do not miss your opportunity to stay here.”
