“A beautifully decorated abode in a perfect location. Proper mugs for huge hot chocos and wonderful beds to fall into after having a toasty waterfall shower. Kitchen fully kitted out with tea, coffee, sugar, oil etc. and all equipment necessary for cooking.”
This self catering cottage was originally a rural school built about 1830. The cottage is situated on the edge of the village of Insh in Strathspey with the Cairngorm Mountains on one side and the Monadhliath Mountains to the west. The cottage adjoins the famous Insh Marshes Bird Reserve. There are several good golf courses nearby. fishing is also available and the whole area is very scenic and perfect for walking. Three miles away is beautiful Loch Insh where water sports are available.
“This place is just perfect, and I cannot stress enough how much we enjoyed our stay here and appreciated the work that has gone in to running this place. We really could not find any fault at all, this truly is a lesson in how to run an AirBnB! Willie was the perfect host, providing a warm welcome when we arrived and providing great local tips and advice, as well as helping us out when we tried to get out the driveway in the snow! At the same time, he respected our privacy but we always felt he was on hand if we needed him. The Old School has been renovated recently to a very high standard with everything a couple or small family would need for an enjoyable stay, in fact it far exceeded our expectations. The place was completely spotless, and very tastefully decorated. The lounge has a lovely woodburner and there was extra wood available if needed. The kitchen is large and very well appointed with all the amenities you could want, plus supplies of the basics (salt, pepper, oil, tea and coffee etc.) plus a few extras if required. The cottage was cosy and warm when we arrived, and stayed that way throughout our stay, despite storms and lots of snow. There are two modern shower rooms, complete with heated floors (which we really appreciated!) and a utility area/porch to keep the wet stuff (this is the Highlands after all) out of the house itself. The location is perfect for exploring the area and we would not hesitate to recommend it, as long as you don't book it for when we next intend to visit ourselves again!”
Close to the A9 and A86, this is the perfect place to stop and rest on your way to or from the north or west. This room offers a double bed and shared shower room with toilet. Just 3 miles south of Newtonmore, it is 20 mins from Aviemore and 45 mins from Fort William and Nevis Range. It is ideally located for the many outdoor activities that the Cairngorms National Park has to offer. We offer a breakfast of tea, coffee, cereal, toast and fruit juice. We can also provide a cot if needed.
“Maria and Robert are very friendly hosts, attentive to the guests and their needs. Their house is all just great, at breakfast we saw 2 hinds, 2 squirrels and a multitude of birds by the window. The setting is idyllic if you want tranquility and nature. The room was very clean, as well as the bathroom, we really appreciated being able to use the kitchen as we wanted. In short, a great stay! Thanks again !”
