Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Escape the daily hustle and reconnect with life’s simple pleasures in Tasmania’s Huon Valley. Your self-contained cabin is located on Old Orchard Farm, where we grow vegetables ecologically.

The cabin is ideal for couples or solo travellers looking to slow down. Relax on the deck. Lose yourself in books, or just gazing at the river. Stroll along the nearby boardwalk, pack a picnic or venture out on a hike. Create a garden-to-plate experience with our garden tour and freshly harvested produce.

The space
Relax inside your spacious open-plan cabin or enjoy the fresh air and river view from the deck. The modern build is overlaid with art and objects by talented locals so you feel immersed in the Huon Valley from the moment you arrive.

The kitchen is well equipped so that you can take advantage of local produce that abounds. Your stay includes breakfast provisions, sourced from our local community. We're happy to provide gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan alternatives with advance notice. On arrival, you’ll also find a small basket of seasonal produce from our own market garden.

To ensure a good start to your morning, there's an espresso machine, French press, kettle and tea infusers. Freshly ground Villino coffee, loose-leaf teas, milk, and some other pantry items are also supplied.

There is a luxurious king-size bed with French flax linen bedding and extra pillows. The double-glazed windows all have blinds and there is a split-system air-conditioner to make sure the temperature is comfortable year-round.

The bathroom features a walk-in shower, toiletries by Hobart-based Milie Organics and both fluffy cotton and French flax linen towels for an extra feeling of luxury.

We hope you find all you need to relax and enjoy being in the Huon Valley.

Guest access
The cabin and its deck are yours exclusively during your stay. We do ask that guests are considerate of our neighbours and do not walk in paddocks or the market garden (unless with us), for safety and biosecurity reasons.

Other things to note
All bookings include the option of a tour of our market garden (by prior arrangement) where we can show you how we grow vegetables at the bottom of Australia.

We can also arrange a grazing platter including ingredients from our garden or delicious ready-to-heat Italian meal from our friends at Bottega Crippa to be waiting for you on arrival or during your stay. Or ask us about arranging an extra-special meal prepared by the amazing Sarah Clare as your private chef. In the cabin you will find a menu of seasonal veggies, Bottega Crippa dishes and small selection of Tasmanian wine, craft beer and cider available for purchase.

The charming town of Geeveston is a five-minute drive or 30-minute walk away, while the riverside town of Franklin is just 10 minutes away. The seaside town of Dover is less than 30 minutes by car. Hobart is just 50 minutes away.

Port Huon is a great base for exploring some of our region's nature-based attractions, with Tahune Airwalk and Hartz National Park 30-40 minutes away, Hastings Caves 45 minutes away and Cockle Creek 70 minutes south.

There is WiFi in the cabin in case you need to connect to the outside world but there is no TV. If you're looking to disconnect completely, you'll find a selection of books (with Tasmanian connections) and games.

We encourage biodiversity on our property. There are bugs, spiders, flies and (possibly) snakes. To stay safe, please keep to the gravel paths between the car parking and the cabin. There's a flyswat in the cabin in case you need it.

We have an onsite wastewater treatment system. Guests are requested to be waterwise and not put any chemicals, dairy products or objects down the sink or toilet. (Dairy produces a bad smell.)

We live in a part of the Huon Valley that is a working agricultural area, which means that it is peaceful but not always silent. Depending on the season, you may see and hear farming machinery (like tractors baling hay) or passing trucks transporting lumber, salmon or apples, which are important parts of our local economy.

There is a separate car-parking area for guests. Access to the cabin is via a gravel path and then a wooden ramp. We can help you carry your bag - just let us know. There is a small ridge (about 10cm) on the sliding door to enter the cabin. The shower has a ridge (around 1cm).

If you have pet allergies please let us know when you book. Ebbi, our corgi, isn't permitted near the cabin but she is a big part of our lives. She also likes to meet guests during the market garden tours but that is easily avoided if you prefer.

Third-party bookings are not permitted. Only guests confirmed within a reservation are permitted to stay.

My work: Market gardener
In 2019 I quit my job and moved from Paris to Tasmania's Huon Valley with Alex, my husband, and Ebbi, our dog. We loved life there but also had an irresistible vision of Tasmanian life and wanted to be closer to family. We're now market gardeners, growing vegetables on our small farm for our local community. I travel a lot less but I couldn't be happier. And now that we're hosts, we're still connected to the wider world!
